Great text.......2007-07-03
This was an easy textbook to follow when I took my textiles class. It is very informative and interesting.
Excellent insight for Seamstress.......2004-07-09
I had been searching through all of the sewing books I could find to learn more about the nature of fabric and fibers...and everything I could possibly want to know was here, and more. Absolutely fascinating. It is a textbook, but was written clearly enough that anyone with an interest in the area can easily understand it. I've been teaching classes to costumers and members of the local American Sewing Guild, who are equally impressed with the knowledge we got from this book.
Connecting Textiles and Science.......2001-05-21
I use this book as the text for teaching a basic textiles course for sophmores. This text provides a sound foundation for students understanding the textiles and the science foundations that are the base for predicting textile performance. Every line is packed with information; there is no fluff in this book. If you want to understand WHY textiles and textile products perform in specific ways, this is the book to buy.

Book Description
A satirical play on the bestselling book The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman, this book takes a humorous approach to social issues facing the conflicted, contemporary south. Tackling everything from crystal meth abuse and obesity to sexual misconduct, it blends sarcasm with outspoken insight that will make readers laugh in spite of it all. This unrestrained, humorous take on life in the 21st-century south will delight both native southerners and those who simply love the land below the Mason-Dixon Line.

Interesting Observation About Southern Culture Current and Past.......2007-07-06
Having married a southern woman, I was indoctrinated into the southern culture many years ago. It was a totally different culture than that of the New England of my birth, and it had a charm that I was no accustomed to. However, in the past 20 years, with the rise of Atlanta as a major power center, the South has slowly changed.
While I didn't find this book funny, I did find it humorous. The author wrote a series of chapters that could very well be stand alone essays on the old South versus the New South and how things are changing. Less of a humorist and more of an observer, Magee has captured the feeling of the way things are now and how the older generations feel about it.
A very good read for those who are familiar with the South, and a great read for those who want to know how the South has changed.
Good southern humor, no fluff here!.......2007-06-23
David Magee has done an excellent job of compiling a book of what I would deem contemporary Southern humor. This book is a great read, I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I tend to be somewhat critical of most Southern humor offerings as being somewhat less than genuine. In this case, it's genuine, real, and highly, highly entertaining - I recommend this book heartily!

O.K........2007-05-15
I thought the graphics in this book are AMAZING, but the text is not that great....
There are a lot of terms in bold that are not explained. The index is not very helpful in finding the terms; even basic terms that should be directed to a page(s) number.
Overall, I gave this book a "3 star" simply because the graphics are really helpful. If it were not for the graphics, it would be a "1"
One of the best textbooks I have ever had!.......2007-03-11
I really like this textbook. There were a variety of pictures and diagrams that helped me out a lot, and it definitely clarified the information that I got in lecture!
Traditional Textbook.......2006-11-05
This is a text book, and it's written like one. It's a hard read. I believe you could find a book a little easier to understand. But if you speak the language it would be great. It has excellent pictures, diagrams and tables which are very helpful.

SAP PRESS SMARTFORM.......2007-05-15
As usual SAP PRESS has done an excellent job with this book. About 90% is excellent to the point that taking an SAP class is really NOT necessary so save your money. Class instructions really will not assist you further anyhow. The 10% that falls short is in examples that would be better served with either more direct screen prints or less verbage.
good book... a comprehensive reference.......2004-06-11
It's very well organized and detailed. The authors don't leave anything in vague terms - they explain it all. There aren't really any other books on this topics, so it's not hard to say that this is the best one. this book was all i needed to get started since programming skills are not needed. Actually I kind of use this book as a guide to avoid programming altogether. I definitely recommend it.

Book Description
This book introduces the theory of modular forms with an eye toward the Modularity Theorem. All rational elliptic curves arise from modular forms. The topics covered include: elliptic curves as complex tori and as algebraic curves, modular curves as Riemann surfaces and as algebraic curves, Hecke operators and Atkin-Lehner theory, Hecke eigenforms and their arithmetic properties, the Jacobians of modular curves and the Abelian varieties associated to Hecke eigenforms, elliptic and modular curves modulo p and the Eichler-Shimura Relation, the Galois representations associated to elliptic curves and to Hecke eigenforms. As it presents these ideas, the book states the Modularity Theorem in various forms, relating them to each other and touching on their applications to number theory. A First Course in Modular Forms is written for beginning graduate students and advanced undergraduates. It does not require background in algebraic number theory or algebraic geometry, and it contains exercises throughout.

The most recent ICD category is covered, and the authors also look at the biology and genetics of bipolar disorder, along with issues relating to age (children and the elderly), comorbidity, choice of drug treatment and investigational strategies.

Since the 19th century, the women of Gee’s Bend in southern Alabama have created stunning, vibrant quilts. Beautifully illustrated with 110 color illustrations, The Quilts of Gee’s Bend includes a historical overview of the two hundred years of extraordinary quilt-making in this African-American community, its people, and their art-making tradition. Customer Reviews:
exceptional.......2007-03-30
I remember the first time I saw photographs of the quilts of Gee's Bend in a magazine about seven years ago. I couldn't wait to learn about the amazing artists whose vision the quilts portray. This book is more outstanding than I imagined it could be. It is powerful, beautiful, sensitive, and historically accurate. I recommend The Quilts of Gee's Bend to anyone with an eye for artistic genius and a love for discovering a community of women willing to express themselves outside the box of convention. How refreshing and inspiring! Simply Exceptional!!
.........a superb keepsake of a memorable trip. .......2007-03-08
Who is more qualified to help provide us with a book about the quilts of Gee's Bend, but Mr. Bill Arnett who has championed the makers of these quilts and their works since 'discovering' them years ago in the tiny community of Gee's Bend about thirty miles southwest of Selma, Alabama?
The quilts first went on tour in 2002 and have been touring ever since. I learned of the ladies of Gee's Bend and their quilts from a PBS documentary first aired in 2003 and have anxiously hoped they would one day come to my part of the country. When, earlier this year, I found the quilts would indeed be coming to the Orlando Museum of Art, I purchased, The Quilts of Gee's Bend: Masterpieces from a Lost Place, documenting the quilts, and the lives of their various makers, with beautiful, full-color illustrations of the quilts.
In February, 2007, when I was finally able to enjoy the quilts in person, I was happy to discover the book had accurately depicted the quilts, and their makers, paralleling an exhibition that should be seen and appreciated by all.
I purchased a copy of The Quilts of Gee's Bend: Masterpieces from a Lost Place, for the art teacher of my children's school. This beautiful book encouraged her to take her middle and high school art students to the exhibition. The book helped the students to first see and read about what they were going to view and then became a superb keepsake of a most memorable trip.
The Quilts of Gee's Bend.......2007-03-08
This is a beautiful book about both the women and the quilts of Gee's Bend. The photos make me feel as if I am back at the Gee's Bend Quilt Show.
Memories which must be kept 'real'.......2007-03-08
This book is already a treasure and one I can love and then bequeath to another art and tradition and people lover...
At the end of October in 2003, I was in Milwaukee to see this Quilt exhibition. Friends of Art from Indiana University drove to Chicago and then on to the marvelous museum in Milwaukee to experience the Quilts. What an awakening! That day I bought a Video. Since that time I have purchased the DVD and (when I found it online) the hardback book The Quilts of Gee's Bend! What a treasure! I am overjoyed to have this book and to have had the viewing experience! [I also use the USPS stamps and the book of postcards!] --Sarah K. Robinson
The Heart and Souls...........2007-01-27
The heart and souls of women are exposed in this poignant book of quilts, along with their "stories" past and present---of slavery on through the civil rights era, and now, life as it is in rural Alabama. The quilts, made out of necessity for their warmth, have become acclaimed Objects d' Art throughout the Art World. Having seen the documentary on television and the Quilt exhibit in San Francisco, I was compelled to purchase this beautiful book containing a compilation of these quilts and self-expressed comments from the community of women who have kept their quilt-making alive. I have purchased this book for myself and several others as gifts.
Book Description
David Rakoff takes us on a bitingly funny grand tour of our culture of excess. Whether he is contrasting the elegance of one of the last flights of the supersonic Concorde with the good-times-and-chicken-wings populism of Hooters Air; working as a cabana boy at a South Beach hotel; or traveling to a private island off the coast of Belize to watch a soft-core video shoot—where he is provided with his very own personal manservant—rarely have greed, vanity, selfishness, and vapidity been so mercilessly skewered. Somewhere along the line, our healthy self-regard has exploded into obliterating narcissism; our manic getting and spending have now become celebrated as moral virtues. Simultaneously a Wildean satire and a plea for a little human decency, Don’t Get Too Comfortable shows that far from being bobos in paradise, we’re in a special circle of gilded-age hell.

Very Funny.......2007-09-07
This book's writer has some very humorous insights into how the luxury we all live in is often taken for granted and he finds a great way to portray that in his essays. I also like Lloyd Dangle's latest book "Troubletown" as it presents the misguided adventures of our current leadership in a humorous yet insightful fashion as well. Troubletown Told You So: Comics that Could've Saved Us from this Mess
A quick read. Entertaining.......2007-08-10
If your looking for a book that's a quick read, light and entertaining...this is it. Some of the stories were a little too avant garde for my tastes but the book, overall, was funny and poignant and insightful.
I don't know that I would get his other book, Fraud, but this one was worth the price and the time.
Having Fun with the English Language!.......2007-07-18
I am in love with this guy's sense of humor and wit! And he tells these hysterical tales with such a mastery of the english language and sentence structure as to be absolutely AMAZING! You know those books that have one long fabulous sentence which begins in one place and ends at a particularly surprising and devastating conclusion? Well, this guy does it over and over. And by the way, get the AUDIO version. His reading, the pauses, the deadpan voice are spectacular.
Last night, I listened to his take on Paris fashion shows. His material on Chanel and Karl Lagerfield is deadly. I truly gasped. I can't believe he got away with it. I've replayed it at least 10 times.
I "discovered" David Rakoff by listening to NPR's "This American Life". This is great stuff!
Amusing.......2007-07-13
My wife and I listened to it on a long drive and enjoyed it. Entertaining and insightful. It is well narrated, but the sound is not ideal for our car (too great a volume range for all the wind noise we experience at 75mph.) Red states may not enjoy it.
Sit back and relax........2007-03-26
What can one say about runway models, applying for US citizenship and making creative gifts for friends that haven't been said before? Well a lot apparently. Seemingly mundane and special events are given the Rakoff touch of both humour and keen observation. I would bet that some of his insomnia-filled nights were spent refining the words to their present artisan-like state. This was my first foray into the world of David Rakoff but I doubt my last.

Very Good Reference, must buy.......2003-06-10
