Customer Reviews:
Excellent Series.......2007-09-02
This is an imaginative and wonderful series. C.S. Lewis is really a creative author. I love it that they are Christian stories. Each one is different from the others and yet they are all great. I was so sorry to get to the last one. The readers for the series are also very good. It is very important that the reader be enthusiastic and talented. A good book can be ruined by a poor reader. I highly recommend this series for children and adults. It is a series that will be listened to over and over again. These are great in the car for long rides. ENJOY!
Superb Collection.......2007-08-07
I had only read two or three of the Narnia stories before picking up the audio CDs. I found that reading the stories to myself was somewhat less than captivating. The audio CDs, however, were quite the opposite. I have come to the conclusion that these stories were meant to be read out loud. This collection has a wonderful cast of narrators that present the stories perfectly.
Awesome Audio Book Set.......2007-01-18
I am so pleased with the book set on CD's. I don't care to read very often & since I am a home health nurse I'm in my car alot. Books on CD are very entertaining for us folks on the road. I'd recommend this set to everyone! I saw the movie before I got this set which is what perked my interest in Narnia. I'm 35y/o & I loved it! I'm finishing up the last book now. I'm sad that it's ending though it's kept me entertained for over a month. (I did have a little trouble following the directions to my patients houses because I was so into the stories, oops!).
Great Find.......2007-01-10
We really enjoyed the different readers for each of the seven stories. I'll never get used to people re-arranging them into chronological order, but that is easly fixed. The only real issue I have is Patrick Stewart reading "The Last Battle". I kept thinking that Aslan was going to beam them up. Otherwise, they are great fun and especially good for long car rides.
Great audiobooks!.......2006-11-21
My husband and I absolutely LOVE this set of The Chronicles of Narnia audiobooks. The stories are all read by actors who do an amazing job of giving special voices to the characters and who paint pictures of what is happening in the stories by the way they read the books. I can't imagine that I could like a movie rendition, or even an audio dramatized version of these stories more than these audio books that are simply read in their entirety. They're captivating! I really like that you get the REAL story - it hasn't been changed and nothing has been deleted for the sake of filming or making it dramatic. And you still get to use your imagination to create the scenes in your mind. We don't have any children yet, but when we do, we will definitely listen to these with our kids.

Customer Reviews:
A Truly Great Work - For the Whole Family.......2007-10-09
I have listened to this production now at least 3 times. It's a joy each time, and seems to get better every time I listen to it. The cast and effects are spot-on, and I think the intended metaphors and meanings become very clear. Everyone in the family can enjoy this - not just children.
Enchanting way to pass hours on the road.......2007-08-26
My daughters, ages six and eight, love these well produced radio dramas based on the C.S. Lewis classics. And I must say, my wife and I enjoy them as much or more than the kids.
We've found the series especially enjoyable on long road trips. Being audio-only, it keeps the children entertained, while allowing them to enjoy sights of our cross-country trips.
Now when we take long car trips, it has almost become tradition that we also journey through the enchanted land of Narnia using this great series.
FANTASTIC.......2007-08-08
Outstanding production, great cast, great music. One of the best audio drama's I have heard, and it was a hoot to see the grandkids sitting around the cd player(taking the place of an Atwater-Kent)getting lost in this fantasy world.Kids dont "need" to watch TV, just give them a great alternative! Highly recommended!!
Chronicles of Narnia (Radio Theatre).......2007-08-01
This is an excellent audio production of all the books from the Chronicles of Narnia. The sound effects and music are great. The production follows what was written by C. S. Lewis very accurately. These are great to listen to on long drives or commuting to work.
Fantastic Escapism!.......2007-07-22
Full cast, amazing sound, great stories - I have listened to these so many times now, total escapism for a typical Pisces!

The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, is one of the very few sets of books that should be read three times: in childhood, early adulthood, and late in life. In brief, four children travel repeatedly to a world in which they are far more than mere children and everything is far more than it seems. Richly told, populated with fascinating characters, perfectly realized in detail of world and pacing of plot, and profoundly allegorical, the story is infused throughout with the timeless issues of good and evil, faith and hope. This boxed set edition includes all seven volumes.
Book Description
Collection includes all seven novels in the series.
Customer Reviews:
Timeless Set, Great Presentation.......2007-10-05
This set is a great gift whether you were a kid 40 years ago or you're a kid now. For years this set of books has taken millions of readers an adventure after adventure. If you enjoyed them as a child or even as an adult, get this set and share the adventure with your loved ones.
Wonderful book , very absorbing.......2007-09-28
I am almost thru with the Chronicles of Narnia and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Great read and so absorbing.
Meets expectations.......2007-09-26
Boxed book set was in like-new condition; on line description was precise. Shipment was prompt. Would not hesitate to order from here again.
Narnia boxed set.......2007-09-17
Nice box. Paperbacks are cheap productions but it is an ok set for the price.
The Real Fantasy.......2007-08-25
Well, usually I despise the kind of fantasy with talking animals and little kids hopping around, as the talking animals are a consequence of the author's inability to paint realistic humans, and the little kids a clear admission that the story is too simple to be appreciated by anyone with more critical sense of a kid.I also hate book "with a moral", they are stiff and feel "constructed" and artificial. This book is an exception in all senses. It's masterfully written, with a class and style the only the greatest writers possess. Characters are alive and breathing, both the humans and the animals, and merge beautifully, and the Christian inspiration flows silently, discreetly and subterraneanly almost all the time, with a class and reserve that reminds of the only Master. A precious , captivating , charming book that would be a real shame to miss if you have not already read it! And don't be discouraged by the horrible movie they made out of it. It had its usefulness for me, as I didn't even know this book existed until I heard about the movie, but luckily I expected the book to outclass that wretched excuse for a movie they did, and, man was I right!
So if you are up for a book that will bring you in a wonderful, colorful, exciting and enriching adventure hurry and get this book, and , as others have said, take care to read it in the original order on which it was written, not the "chronological Narnian order". Some publishers have been stupid enough to publish the various tales in this latter order which spoils most of the surprise and suspense.
The order in which you should read it is:
1) The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, 2) Prince Caspian, 3)The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, 4) The Silver Chair, 5) The Horse and His Boy, 6) The Magician's Nephew, and 7) The Last Battle
The only shadow on this masterpiece is the superficial and ill-chosen choice of the Narnians villains and enemies as people who are way too reminiscent (you could say copied) from our world stereotypical muslim people. besides being superficial and offensive, it also spoils the beauty of the tale with his gross oversimplification and stink of prejudice, ignorance and lack of fantasy. It's sad to see how the dark sides of religion , prejudice, closure, and lack of tolerance pollute not only our everyday life but even a literature masterpiece. Also, I would consider this book as made by the first 6 tales, the last one "The Last Battle" is hugely inferior to the other six, just a quick closure that lacks structure, coherence and , well, "magic".
Especially painful since it attempts to deal with the core of religion.. want to know what I mean by this? Go read the book!

Customer Reviews:
Reddragon.......2007-03-30
The product came quickly. It was exactly as advetised and met expectations. Thank You. I enjoyed the stories very much they exceded my expectation.
How Could It Be Anything But..........2007-02-05
Compelling, insightful, inspiring, entertaining, enchanting, fully capable of making you think. This set is not just for young adults--much of the intent of the author, I believe, is to reach all young minds, from children to adults, and speak to each individual on a level suitable to their comprehension. There is a reason this set is a Classic--It takes you away, to a land and people and creatures who become believable, viable, and capable of changing not just hearts, but worlds.
Chronicles of Narnia review.......2007-01-10
I have really enjoyed it. The only thing that could have made it better is if each character in the story was read by a different actor.
Brilliant work by riveting actors.......2006-11-10
This is a dream work -- stories I love read by actors who get every drop of nuance out of it. Profoundly good stuff, of the sort I'll listen to over and over until I know it all by heart. I'd listen to Patrick Stewart, Kenneth Branagh, Derek Jacobi, and Lynn Redgrave read the phone book; I'd listen to a telephone operator reading C.S. Lewis. How glorious to have the two pleasures in one project!
The only performance I'm less than staggered by is Michael York's reading of the first book, _The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe._ Whether it was his choice or the director's, he uses a patronizing, sing-song lilt, as if reading to very young and not very bright children. It insults the book and the audience both, and it's hard to listen to without rolling your eyes.
All the same, the other readings and the material itself more than makes up for it. Well worth whatever they charge for it!
Engaging From Start to Finish.......2006-11-04
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis holds you from the first word to the last. These books on audio were amazing. The narrators from Branagh to York to Stewart et al were the perfect picks for each story. I listened to these books in my car everywhere I went. Now that I'm finished, I miss having them on. The stories are so rich with imagery. They are a great fit for any age. Lewis allows your own imagination run with the story. Like Tolkien, Lewis created a world and filled with characters that you will care about. As you follow through each story, you will see the similarities in their writings. I loved these books. Anyone that has seen the movie and doesn't know the whole story of Narnia should get them as soon as possible and learn the history of this magical world.
Customer Reviews:
Classic set, must have.......2007-01-10
Written in WWII, but object lessons that are still very relevant. Must-read for children.
Not just for kids!.......2006-04-13
I first read the books as an adult and loved every minute of it. I've read the whole set 5 or 6 times. I just finished reading them to my 8 year old son, who loved them as well. This particular boxed set is my favorite because they are numbered in the order in which Lewis wrote them. After 1994, a different publisher took over and started publishing them in chronological order. There's a big difference! I think it flows much better and is more fun to read the way he wrote them. Plus you fall in love with Aslan if you read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" first.
The Perfect Pre-Teen Gift.......2006-04-08
Anyone Ages 8 to 80 will enjoy this series even though the books are technically classified as children's literature. This series is fantasy at its finest and combines intriguing stories, compassionate characters and rich, multi-level symbolism guaranteed to stimulate the mind.
I believe this is one of those series best read in both childhood and adulthood to experience the full effect through both perspectives of naivete and wisdom.
If you're ever wondering what to buy that niece, nephew, grandchild, godchild or any other child Ages 8-12 for a birthday or holiday, this is it.
The Chronicles of Narnia - A Classic for Young and Old.......2005-10-06
The Chronicles of Narnia is probably one of the best written and most charming multi-volume fantasies written in the 20th century, and it has become a classic, attracting a near-cult following comparable to fans of Star Trek, the Lord of the Rings and J. K. Rowlings' Harry Potter books.
This is such a good series of books that they are eminently suited to adults, who can appreciate the books' allusions that are lost on the young.
C. S. Lewis' Christian background comes out in the Christian elements of Aslan's creation of Narnia, his sacrifice at the big stone table, his leadership against the forces of evil, and his triumph at the Last Battle, as Aslan the lion is a Christ figure.
Altogether excellent reading for anyone. I highly recommend it.
The First Harry Potter.......2004-12-29
The Chronicles of Narnia was the book series my 5th grade class voted all-time favorite. Captivating and imaginative as a children's book series, but thoughtful and meaningful for all ages. This book series starting with the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and explores themes of magic, saving the world, and having faith in yourself in order to overcome doubt and insecurity years before the Harry Potter phenomenon. A classic in this religious-like fantasy genre, this is a stable fiction series mainly for children, but applies to any age. Along this line of genre, also recommended are the Gifted Girls Series by Victoria London and the Wrinkle in Time books by Madeleine L' Engel. Fill your purpose-driven child's library with these wonderful children's books.

Customer Reviews:
Timeless, every kid should have the set .......2007-08-16
I was almost 40 before I read this seven-book series. What a treat it was for an "old man." If you have kids, do them a favor and forget about the computer game and give them this series for their next birthday. Hopefully, they won't wait as long as I did to read them.
A Roaring Success!.......2006-11-09
The Chronicles of Narnia Box Set was given both to our daughter and to our granddaughter. They were happy to receive them and, after reading the set, were even more pleased. We also gave them the Inside Narnia: A Guide to Exploring The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to further enhance understanding the Narnia books. The review from them: FABULOUS! No need to say more. ~ Mrs. B.
Paper qualtiy poor.......2006-08-14
The box set is great reading...but for the price...especially the list price of $70.00, I would have expected higher quality paper. The set is printed on pulp paper and will not last worth beans and the covers are thin and not robust. You may as well buy the cheapest set you can find, because the quality of the cheaper books is not any lower, the books are just a little smaller and the "bonus content is just the first chapter of the next book and some other tidbits of marginal interest
Had I known about the paper quality being junk, I would have bought the individual books from Barnes and Noble with the slick, paper. It would have been about $25.00 more total, but I like to buy books that will still be readable in 20 years and not have pages crumble in your hands.
Book or Movie what a ride.......2006-06-15
I've seen the movie and I've read the book.
I normally write in detail on what struck me and pulled me as I read. But I must reserve myself and offer a simple point of view. Why? I hope you ask... and if you did ask... I'd say.. the book and/ or the movie is too good to ruin with a review read it, watch it enjoy it as if you don't know a thing about it and it take you where the writer intended. if there was a Ten STAR reting I'd have clicked it.
Wonderful! Excellent! Superb! (if you like fairy-tales then you may read this review, if not, don't go any further).......2006-06-08
The Chronicles of Narnia are beautifully written books. They are some of my favorite books I've ever read. I would strongly reccomend them to everyone. I have read them all seven times, and I still can't decide which is my favorite! People who don't like them surprise me. Not only are they wonderful fairy-tales, they also have a lot of underlying Christian themes.
In 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe', Aslan's death is a beautiful, deeply moving, picture of Jesus' death. Of course, if you don't like fairy-tales, you don't need to read this review. But if you do, then after you read the review, you might want to check out the books at the local library. I would give them 10,000,000 stars if at all possible, and I do give them 2 thumbs up! Wonderful! Excellent! Superb!

Only One Problem.......2007-09-14
First, let me state that I love this production. I love sounds, and the sounds in this production are wonderful, especially with headphones so one can catch the more subtle nuances therein. I enjoy the actors and personalities. I simply love it. But . . .
Why didn't I give it 5 stars? I tend, with Poe, to be a purist about not editing another's work. After listening to The Horse and His Boy, I happened to start reading the book again and noticed that some dialogue was missing. I randomly turned to another section and immediately found more dialogue that was missing (an entire paragraph). Now I understand that with an oral/aural production, one can remove narrative and replace with the equivalent in sound. This is very effective, and even the point. But to remove dialogue is quite presumptious (and it can't be replaced with an equivalent in sound). And in the second case of removal noted above, suspicion of censorship is clearly raised.
Had Focus on the Family left the dialogue alone, this production would be elite in quality in every respect. Despite this [major] glitch, any fan of the Chronicles should purchase this particular set. Besides, any real fan is going to read the books anyway.
Gift for nephew.......2007-09-06
I bought this as a gift for my nephew who always seems to destroy his toys. However he has not been able to hurt this scooter. I know for a fact that he is rough with it too but it is extremely durable. He loves it too. I like that it has a wider base for the foot than other scooters. It's also nice that there are no crazy cartoons on it or anything wierd that way he won't grow out of it like he would a spoungebob scooter or something like that.
Great work of a classic series, but Aslan's voice is disappointing.......2007-01-17
The CD series captures the story line well. All actors were well-cast except (unfortunately - regretably) Aslan. Other than that, Focus on the Family did a supurb job. If you've read the books, you'll not be disappointed with the CDs - just try to overlook Aslan's voice and focus on the story - and try to imagine what Aslan's voice is really like.
Great decent family time fun.......2006-06-11
After getting hooked to a radio book I heard almost 3 years ago I decided to look for other Christian based audio book stories that I could enjoy with my son. I bought this for him and we have heard several so far. The stories are played out in a very real and tangible way. We have sat in bed with our eyes closed and it feels like you're in a theater. Of course it helps if you have surround sound but sounds just as good if not. Great for long trips in the car or to just play on a rainy day at home snuggled under the covers. This type of story telling awakens the imagination of children in a way that TV will never!!!!!
Very entertaining.......2006-02-24
Listening to the book in full theater format was very interesting and enjoyable.
The only downside is that the presentation is an abridgement of the actual book and thus some information is lost.

This large, deluxe hardcover edition of the first title in the classic Chronicles of Narnia series, The Magician's Nephew, is a gorgeous introduction to the magical land of Narnia. The many readers who discovered C.S. Lewis's Chronicles through The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be delighted to find that the next volume in the series is actually the first in the sequence--and a step back in time. In this unforgettable story, British schoolchildren Polly and Digory inadvertently tumble into the Wood Between the Worlds, where they meet the evil Queen Jadis and, ultimately, the great, mysterious King Aslan. We witness the birth of Narnia and discover the legendary source of all the adventures that are to follow in the seven books that comprise the series.
Rich, heavy pages, a gold-embossed cover, and Pauline Baynes's original illustrations (hand-colored by the illustrator herself 40 years later) make this special edition of a classic a bona fide treasure. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter

Customer Reviews:
Good job, C. S. Lewis!.......2007-09-28
Usually I like to read series in order and watch the movie after I've read the whole series. This time I did it wrong though. I saw the movie first and now I'm trying to rectify myself by reading the books in the order they were intended to be read. That doesn't change that I know things about what happens in the next book, though. It was so cool to read how the lamppost and the wardrobe came to be, and how Narnia was born. Surprisingly, I had no thoughts about how similar the book was to how creation occurred. I was too engrossed in the plot to notice. There were parts that were less enjoyable for me though. Small things like the wording of a sentence or the explanation of something obvious would bug me and draw me out of the thick of the plot. It especially bothered me how C. S. Lewis didn't always write things chronologically. He would start one part of the story, move on to another part, then go back and pick up the first part. My favorite part was when Lewis explained how the apple tree was eventually turned into the wardrobe. I love how things come together in the end, though I guess that was sort of the whole point of the book; Lewis went back and wrote it to explain how things were before the original first book.
This is a wonderful, quick read for almost any age. I thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
A fine introduction.......2007-09-09
I loved the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe as a child and read it probably four or five times. I had never read any other of the Chronicles of Narnia books and decided to begin reading the whole series to my 8 1/2 year son and 5 year old daughter. The Magician's Nephew was written as the prequel to LWW five years after that book was published. There are varied opinions as to whether to read the book in sequence or not. I decided to read the books in sequence from 1 - 7.
The story is about friends Diggory and Polly in Victorian London who are exploring a passageway between their houses when the wind up in Uncle Andrew's study. Uncle Andrew is a would-be magician and coaxes Polly into trying on a magical ring. This begins the pairs adventure into the Wood between the Worlds where they encounter the evil Queen Jadis, and ultimately Aslan, the talking Lion who creates the world of Narnia. At times, I think Lewis gets a little ham-fisted with the allegory, especially in the middle to latter part of the book. Overall, this doesn't diminish the enjoyment of this book.
My chilren and I thorougly enjoyed reading this together and the minute I finished the last page, they were begging for me to start the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
A `Dem Fine Book'.......2007-09-07
The Magician's Nephew' is the sixth novel published in the Narnian Chronicles. It tells the story of how Polly Plummer and Digory Kirke (the magician's nephew) came to be present at the founding of Narnia by Aslan the Lion.
This is another excellent entry in the series, introducing the memorable characters of Uncle Andrew and the frightening Queen Jadis who used the 'Deplorable Word' to destroy her own world of Charn. There are of course parallels with Biblical accounts of creation, and the doctrine of Original sin, as Jadis takes an apple from the Apple of Life to gain immortality. There is also the theme of Temptation. Digory yields to temptation and rings the bell in Charn, which revives Jadis, and ultimately leads to the introduction of evil into Narnia. But he resists the much greater temptation to steal the Apple of Life for his dying mother.
This is probably one of the most powerful scenes in all the Narnia stories. The book though is full of many other memorable scenes, the desolate word of Charn with it's dying sun, the wood between the worlds, and Jadis's tumultuous visit to turn of the (20th) century London
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
I suppose you get a problem when you age your child characters and don't let them come back into your story if they are too old.
So, Lewis here has gone for the sequel trick, using the character of the old guy from the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, some kids, and filling in some backstory of Narnia, including the furniture.
A Note To Teachers and Parents!.......2007-08-02
Of all the Narnian Chronicles, the Magician's Nephew addresses some of the most immediate problems of the modern world, and should be discussed with children. I believe that Lewis creates this forum for discussion uniquely in this work by having the action taking place within several different worlds (Charn, the Wood Between the Worlds, and our earth) in addition to Narnia. Lewis calls us to think about the possible fate of our world through the destruction of Charn and the creation of Narnia.
He does this by presenting the motivations and rationale for how Charn was destroyed. The answer comes through the two villains in the story: the evil Queen Jadis and Uncle Andrew. Both of them adhere to and promote a philosophy of superiority which echoes of a twisted version of Nietzsche's Superman. They believe that extraordinary people need to be above conventional rules of right and wrong in order to fulfill their ambitions for personal power and self-actualization. For Uncle Andrew this thinking allows him to use people without remorse, while for Queen Jadis, her disregard for any life, save her own, allows her to obliterate Charn. Digory's (as well as my own elementary students) were quick to understand the falsity of such erroneous thinking, and acknowledge and affirming the importance of following moral laws. They realize the unjust results that such thinking creates amongst individual relationships (which they experience daily in school) and also how it would be destructive when nations begin to think this way.
This is further expressed and made applicable to readers when Lewis, near the end of the story, has Aslan give a warning to the Digory and Polly regarding the Deplorable Word for their time. The children leave Narnia and are sent back home with the warning that the fate which befell Charn could very well happen to their world if humanity is not careful. The reader by comparing the chronology of the Chronicles of Narnia will realize that the setting of the story is perhaps a couple of decades before the turn of the 20th century, and takes place decades before the Great War and World War II. Lewis, completing the Magician's Nephew near 1955 during the ensuing Cold War, looks back on history and comments about those world leaders who unleashed killing machines designed for conquest and genocide, and the devastation that came with the dropping of the Atomic Bomb at the end of WWII. The warning is a true one, and one that should be taught to children. Although one may consider such topics as too weighty for children, it is wrong to avoid them as well. I am surprised how the children I teach today almost have never heard of the horrors of that era and of those that perpetrated crimes against humanity. Lewis making reference to these tragic historical events and raising issues of beliefs of might makes right, the difficulty of making moral choices, and the abuse of power in the Magician's Nephew probably would agree that such topics are not too beyond the age of the children.
Book Description
All seven books in the Chronicles of Narnia are now available together in a hardcover volume which includes an essay by C. S. Lewis, “On Three Ways of Writing for Children,” where he explains precisely how the magic of Narnia first came to life.
Customer Reviews:
Narnia!.......2007-04-03
The Narnia book is a very adventures book. My favorite part was the war against the White Witch. My favorite character is Edmund because he is my age. Most of the story takes place in the Narnia woods. I like how a very long time in Narnia doesn't take any time in the real world. The main characters are Peter, Edmund, Susan, Lucy, and Aslan. The book is fantasy because the children go to a magic world.
Great for any age..........2007-03-02
I loved the entire series. If you get this book for your child, it's a good oppritunity to bring out the christain aspects of the story. (There are lots of books out there to help you with this!) It was an enjoyable read and I loved how the last book ended. It was perfect!
A Classic.......2007-01-31
Can anyone actually say something negative about this C.S. Lewis classic? A great story for both children and adults as only Lewis can tell it.
Nice book.......2007-01-08
I have been buying this book for a few years as a gift for kids for Christmas, and it is always appreciated. This year, I bought it for my son, and he loves it.
Note that some kids will do better with the five individual paperbacks, e.g. if they have to carry the book(s) around with them while reading.
Great Gift! Great Service.......2007-01-04
Everyone that I gave this book to has told me over and over again how much they appreciate it. I recieved the books soon after ordering them. They were in good enough condition to give as a gift.
