5 out of 5 stars Great Light Summer Reading.......2007-09-10

Absolutly delightful! Im a huge fan of Meg Cabots to begin with, I grew up with the Princess Diaries and she never seems to disappoint. I could not put it down, I found the story line exciting and the way the book was written though emails was absolutly amazing! If you like light hearted romance with a little bit of a twist to it then I most definatly sugguest picking this one up!

2 out of 5 stars Predictable, silly, a waste of time.......2007-08-16

The Boy Next Door is just another chick-lit novel, a genre I am not a fan of, but I wanted to read something light and romantic for a change. The only thing that separates this book from many, many other similar novels is that it's written entirely as emails sent between the main characters. It is an annoying gimmick, but the author does a fair job of making it work, despite the fact that most people would (hopefully) never dish about their sex life using their company email address. This book is completely predictable and pretty much a complete waste of time. Cabot should stick to writing Young Adult novels. If you want a QUALITY romantic read, I recommend either Bridget Jones Diary or Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

5 out of 5 stars The best "airplane" read ever..........2007-08-13

I read this book during two three hour flights (while entertaining my five year old son!). It was really an enjoyable, light book. The style of the book (written all in emails) allowed for multiple points of view from each of the characters (even minor ones). I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Very Funny!

4 out of 5 stars Cute, light "dessert" kind of read.......2007-06-12

Ok so it's not Tolstoy or anything but I thought it was fun! I liked the idea of the whole book being written through office emails, though it was a little hard to keep track of who was writing what email sometimes lol. The storyline of a character falling in love under the guise of a false identity has been done a thousand times over but this was a refreshing take on the old idea.

The romance was fun to watch develop and I loved the little arguements back and forth between all the friends but as far as the "conflict" part of the story, I thought the girl overreacted JUST a wee bit lol and I was disappointed to see the cliche romance ending on something that was so seemingly original in thought but there were some laugh out loud parts and like I said, it is a nice "dessert course" read to take in between more heavier tomes.

4 out of 5 stars different yet fun.......2007-06-02

i didn't know the whole book will be based on e mails. I was a little bit skeptical about it but i''ve read queen of babble and i love it. so i gave it a chance and i thought it this book was cute, fun and enjoyable. some of the e-mails were really long and i thought wow if i have to write that long i rather call the person myself. But hey its the new century email is the way to communicate nowadays. I really like the book and i enjoy it very much.

      5 out of 5 stars Wheaties, Anyone?.......2005-05-17

Actually, this show had an Off-Broadway run. However, that takes nothing away from this play. The "boys" are seen through the eyes of Jack, the social worker assigned to them. He's quickly burning out and needs to move on with his own life. As he says, "Lucien will always be Lucien. Norman will always be Norman. And Arnold will always be Arnold." The play is full of excellent moments for the actors to make us all laugh, cry, and think. It works much better on stage than the Hallmark movie from a few years back. The script is a real machine that never panders to the characters, nor makes fun of them. I was in a benefit performance for a local mentally handicapped charity. Afterwards, I was chatting with the actor who was Arnold. One of the real boys next door approached us. He looked at Arnold and said, "You were me!" Then to me, "I like you too, Jack." He walked off. We looked at each other and tried not to cry.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest show ever!.......2002-05-14

We just did a production of The Boys Next Door at my school, and it is the best play I've ever worked on. I'm a techie and was Assistant Director for our production. I'm so glad I got a chance to work on this production. It is so amazing and touching. I cry every time Norman and Sheila have their dance scene where they waltz and at Lucien's "State Sneck" scene. I would recommend this play to EVERYONE.

5 out of 5 stars A hilarious and compassionate story.......2000-03-27

I've seen the play performed, and I've read the script. Mr. Griffin does a beautiful job at showing how to enjoy life. If it deals with keys or green library cards. We can't take anything for granted and if we do all that's left for us is to move to Russia. I was very impressed with the show itself. Many people could find it offensive, but those are the people who need to open their hearts and see the beauty of the story line. The characters are so loveable and they can move you to tears because they have no trees.

      5 out of 5 stars great work.......1999-03-09

This is indeed a wonderful work that did have a run on Broadway! It was also featured on NBC as a made for TV movie. It was my understanding that there were efforts for many years to get it on the silver screen, but.....

I highly recommend this to any Harold Pinter fans.

      5 out of 5 stars FABULOUS.......1998-12-12

Why this didn't hit broadway I will never know, yet in all truth it is an awe-inspiring play which probes through the bounds of intelligence and deep into the human soul. It is the story of four mentally disabled men who live in a group home under the supervision of a man named Jack. Their antics fill our hearts with joy and laughter, yet bring us to tears. It makes us (and I use "us" for this very purpose to illustrate how we are all bound together) realize what we take for granted, which are our full and intelligent lives. These four men lacked our intelligence, yet had so much more in that they did not take for granted the very thing that is most precious to every creature; life. People today do not use their skills in a productive way, some do, sure, yet we take our blessings for granted, these four men help us realize how blessed we really are.

4 out of 5 stars Read it again!.......2006-08-10

The first time I read it, I didn't like it. The fact I knew who the killer was kinda took all the suspense out of it. But then, when I read it the 2nd time, I ended up actually liking it.

Scott is a weird character. I wear make up and dress up too, and honestly, I would get really freaked out if somebody was trying to kill me because of that.

i liked the characters. I liked how the relationship between Crystal and her sister Melinda is portrayed. And I liked how RL Stine gives us an insight to Scott's twisted mind.

I wouldn't recommend this book if you like suspense, but if you read for the plot and characters, you should definately read it.

5 out of 5 stars Penetrates The Soul, Probably The Best.......2006-03-15

The Boy Next Door, by R.L.Stine, is a very unique book to the Fear Street series.
It describes Scott, the boy next door, who is a mad killer, and three girls who are madly in love with Scott.
Scott is a truly creepy dude. He is a football star, but hates girls who wear makeup or dress skimply. In his mind, it is his duty to kill all the girls who do these rather normal things.
Scott is the whole point of this book, and Stine makes him a truly scary and mad character.

4 out of 5 stars The Boy Next Door .......2005-12-21

This book is about three girls: Lynn, Melinda, and Crystal. After pretty much killing his old girlfriend, Scott moves next door to exiting, make - up wearing Crystal and her plain book reading sister Melinda. You would think that Crystal would be the one for Scott, WRONG! It turns out Scott has killed girls who wear make - up and get really bad. Crystal is that kind of girl! Will Scott get to Lynn ( Crystal's BFF who also likes him) and Crystal before its too late?
The reason I only rate this book 4 stars is because you already know who the bad guy/killer is. The whole book really doesn't have the usual twists and turns like other Fear Street books. Still very good though.

        4 out of 5 stars Heather's review.......2005-02-09

I liked this story, just like all the other R.L.Stine stories. It was scary and mysterious. Also I like how he puts them in odd ways. But I must admit that it wasn't one off the greatest R.L.Stine stories.

This story was about three girl named; Melinda, Crystal, and Lynn. It was also about a guy named Scott. Scott was a new boy that just has moved in next door to Crystal and Melinda. Crystal and her best friend Lynn made a deal to have a contest with Melinda in it too. The contest involved Scott and it was to see which one he would ask out first.
But on the way they run into some tragedy. Lynn dies, Melinda gets disappointed, and she also gets threatened with her sister to die. Also Scott thinks Lynn and Crystal are improper but Melinda is perfect as well as he had some trouble with his old girl friend in the last town he lived in. Would Scot have anything to do with the killing and threatening? What had happened in his old town? Read the book its great.

I think everyone should read this wonderful book. Its not just for boys or girls it could be for anyone. But you either have to like mysteries or scary stories. So I would suggest this book to anyone it was great.

        4 out of 5 stars Ashley's review.......2005-01-07

The Boy Next Door was a great book. It is a very thrilling book that makes you jump out of your seat. My favorite part in the book was when Crystal and her sister are running and hiding from Scott because he is trying to kill Crystal. You just keep wanting to read more and more to see what happens.

The book is about a girl named Crystal that lives next door to a boy who just moves in. Their rooms are right next to each other so when she looks out, all she can see is his room and him! But Scott has a dangerous secret that cannot be held in any longer! What is his secret and why is he out to kill Crystal?

This book is for people who like mysteries and enjoy a little thrill in their lives because this book gives it to you!

Cute, available, and one cabin over

Lori lives for summertime on the lake. She spends all season wakeboarding, swimming, and hanging with her friends -- including the two hotties in the house next door. With the Vader brothers, Lori's always been one of the guys.

But while Lori and the "baby" brother, Adam, are inseparable friends, she can't deny a secret crush on Sean, the older Vader boy. This year Sean's been paying Lori a lot of attention, and not in a brotherly way.

But just as Lori decides to prove to Sean she's girlfriend material, she realizes that her role as girl friend to Adam may be even more important. And by trying so hard for the perfect summer romance, she could be going way overboard....

This book is probably my all-time favorite. It keeps you interested and laughing all the way through and you deffinatly WON'T want to put it down any time soon! There is a lot of foreshadowing that reeealy makes the book fun. The character(Lori)is pretty hilarious to read about and get to know. She's easy to relate to, and a girl you want to be like. Overall this book is truly amazing in the plot, characters, and the ending is pretty cute too ;D

I'd deffinatly recomend this book to all teens looking for a fun read!!

Another great addition to the Simon Romantic Comedy series.

Books like this one are the reason I have to wear glasses now! I had to keep reading, flipping the pages, even in the dark car, straining my eyes. It was that good. I wanted to find out what happened to Lori, Adam, and Sean, and I got a satisfying ending. If you want a good beach read - or just a funny romance book in general - then you *need* to check out The Boy's Next Door.

Almost all of Lori McGillicuddy's summers were always the same: work at the Vader Marina along with her brother and the three boys next door -- Cameron, Sean, and Adam. It was the perfect place to work, since Lori was always able to practice her wakeboarding skills and be around Sean, her longtime crush. This summer was no different than the past ones, except for Lori's three-step plan to finally get Sean to notice her as a girl instead of just one of the guys, and to have him ask her out.

All the stages of Lori's plan seems to be working just fine, since Sean has definitely started flirting with her. Unfortunately, it takes a huge setback when Sean steals his brother Adam's girlfriend.

Lori cannot believe this (her plan seemed foolproof) but at least now she can rule out that her age isn't a factor in why Sean hasn't asked her out yet, since Adam's now ex-girlfriend is a year younger than she is.

Now, the only way that Lori can win back Sean is to make him jealous, which sparks another plan. So Lori approaches Adam, telling him that the only way that they can get back the ones they love is to go out with each other. Surprisingly, Adam accepts this idea without much hesitation. Of course, having your crush's brother as your fake boyfriend may seem a little weird at first, especially since they look so much aliker. But it soon becomes natural for both Lori and Adam -- maybe a little too natural.

Lori can't help but get this tingling feeling whenever Adam is pretend-flirting with her. Spending time with Adam actually becomes really fun and he is all she begins to think about, which just can't be happening since it's Sean that she wants... right?

THE BOYS NEXT DOOR takes you on the ride of your life, making you want to scream and squeal at all the troubles Lori has to go through, just to get the guy of her dreams. Jennifer Echols makes Lori one of the most likeable characters out there with her outrageous but very hilarious ideas and, before you know it, readers will be scrambling to be in Lori's shoes. Another awesome novel from Jennifer Echols and another wonderful addition to the Simon Pulse Romantic Comedy series.

        5 out of 5 stars I loved this book!.......2007-07-16

Three hours at the pool and I breezed through this amazingly wonderful, warm, sweet, romantic story. Lori is a brave, tenacious, yet fragile heroine looking over the right guy for the wrong one. The love story between Lori and Adam is realistic and funny and if you don't fall in love with all the boys next door, I don't know what to say. The book had me from the first page. Jenn Echols is a great voice in young adult romantic comedies and I can't wait to read more from her.

Rundles and Salingers don't mix. Not since the tragic accident involving Zach Rundle's brother and Lindsey Salinger's mother. But when the well-being of Zach's five-year-old nephew is at stake, Zach and Lindsey are dragged together again.

At first Zach thinks the social worker is stirring up the old feud. But he soon realizes that's the last thing on her mind. Before long, the attraction they'd felt twelve years ago returns, too. Could a child's needs bring them together? More important--would it help keep them together?

4 out of 5 stars Your heart will be stolen..........2007-05-18

Lindsay Salinger's mother was killed in a drunk driving accident eleven years ago. The person responsible for her death was their next door neighbor Josh Rundle and she has never forgotten how it affected her. Even more than her family's hatred for the Rundle family, Lindsay feels the need to help anyone in need. She has always harbored feelings for Zach, Josh's older brother, but fought her attraction to keep peace in her family.

When Lindsay finds Owen Rundle, Josh's five year old son outside in his socks, without a coat, she takes him home to find he is being cared for by his great-grandma full time. Unsure for his safety, she finds herself calling Zach home to assess the situation before she takes her investigation to social services officially. As Lindsay gets to know the man Zach has become she finds herself getting in deeper and deeper with her emotions. Can these feuding families lay their animosity to rest?

The second novel by Amy Knapp is an emotional treat that will leave readers sighing. The dramatic changes in Zach as well as in Lindsay make them the perfect characters for a romantic tale with strings attached. Family feuds stop star crossed lovers frequently, but Ms. Knapp has given this tale a new light with the introduction of the nephew who needs someone to take care of him, and to ensure his safely.

THE BOY NEXT DOOR is filled with more emotional drama than this reader is used to finding in a Harlequin novel. This was a treat as it left tears in her eyes, yet a smile on her face. Lindsay and Zach may be the leading characters but Grandma Rundle and Owen will steal reader's hearts and hoping for the best. This reviewer only felt one downfall to this novel, and she hopes it will be wrapped up in a future novel. She was left questioning what happens to Josh. Can he stay sober and get his life together?

THE BOY NEXT DOOR by Amy Knupp
        February 17, 2007

        Rating **** (4 Stars)

Lindsey Salinger and Zach Rundle's families are tied together forever by a single tragedy - thirteen years ago Zach's brother Josh was driving under the influence of alcohol when he hit the car that Lindsey and her mother were driving, killing Lindsey's mother instantly. Whatever feelings Lindsey had for Zach were over. The Rundle's were bad news, and the Salinger's (and the town of Lone Oak, Kansas) were never going to forgive the Rundles and alcoholic son Josh.

Josh Rundle and his son Owen live with their grandmother Elsa next door to Lindsey's father. One day while Lindsey is checking up on her father, she spies a little lost boy outside, and figures out he's Josh's illegitimate son. Josh is nowhere to be found, and the five-year old boy is scared.

The grandmother, usually a formidable woman who does not get along with Lindsey, meets Lindsey at the door and acts nice towards her, which immediately raises a red flag in Lindsey's mind. Lindsey observed that Grandmother Rundle was the only one taking care of Owen at the moment, and Lindsey was not quite sure the woman was up to it. The fact that Elsa Rundle did not recognize Lindsey was not a good sign. Lindsey, who was a social worker, wanted to take action and see to it that Owen was in good capable hands. Obviously, his alcoholic father was useless, but what about Zach?

Lindsey contacts Zach to tell him about her concerns. He has yet to meet Owen, but feels that his grandmother is able to take care of the boy. It angers Zach that Lindsey is trying to interfere with his family, and he thinks this is just Lindsey's way of getting back at Josh for what happened thirteen years ago.

Zach returns home and at first does not believe any of Lindsey's warnings about Elsa, that Owen may not be safe in her hands. Zach does find out what it's like to take care of a little boy. He becomes an instant father, and Lindsey tries to persuade him that the best solution for everyone is for Zach to adopt Owen.

THE BOY NEXT DOOR is a many-layered story about two families tied together through tragedy. Because of this tragedy, a little boy needs a loving and responsible parent, but his father is not it. It is obvious that Lindsey's mother's death had impacted so many people around her, as it was evident in the characters in the story, all of whom had to live with the results of the tragedy. Josh continued to drink, starting a downward spiral since the day Lindsey's mother died. He was hardly ever home, and spent most of his time in bars and on the streets. A newly discovered son did nothing to help turn his life around.

Lindsey had a long hidden guilt about the accident, blaming herself for her mother's death. She also felt guilt about her father, who had major health issues, making Lindsey lie to her father about her renewed relationship with Zach, the only true love of her life. She was afraid that if her father knew about Zach, it would cause him another heart attack. The past seems to dictate her every move. It is Zach that finally points it out to her that she hasn't accepted her mother's death, and without doing that she could not go forward.

On the other hand, Lindsey's father seems to be a lot closer to his caregiver, Mrs. Hale. Lindsey is too focused on Owen and Zach to realize that her father may have possibly moved on, looking for a long-term relationship with a woman other than her mother.

THE BOY NEXT DOOR was an engaging book, with characters that were believable and the romance was right on the mark. As Zach and Lindsey take care of Owen, their past relationship blossoms once again, but the past keeps getting in the way. Readers will sympathize with Josh but will root for Zach, hoping he will find it in his heart to adopt the little boy who needed a father figure. Owen, as most young children featured in romance novels, will definitely win the reader's heart. This reviewer enjoyed THE BOY NEXT DOOR and gives it a recommendation. - Courtesy of Love Romances and More - M. Lofton

4 out of 5 stars deep family drama.......2007-02-10

Twelve years ago Zach Rundle's brother Josh killed Lindsey Salinger's mother in a tragic DUI incident several years ago. Though Lindsey desired Zach back then as a teen and he wanted her; that deadly accident cut off any ties between them. That is until now.

A social worker Lindsey calls Zach because his sibling has run away leaving behind his five year old son Owen with the lad's aging grandmother. Zach thinks Lindsey using his nephew to get back at the Rundles. However, he reappraises his initial assessment when he observes how kind she is with Owen. Meanwhile, the teen attraction between them remains hotter as adults, but though he wants to bury the past and move into a future with her, she fears the impact a relationship with her beloved would have on her widower dad, recuperating from heart surgery.

The tragedy links their families in ways that make a loving relationship between the caring lead pair almost impossible as none of their relatives except for Owen would want such a connection. The story line is character driven by predominantly Zach and Lindsey while her father, her deceased mom, his sibling and Owen add depth to a tale that borders on soap operaish, but Amy Knupp due to her powerful cast instead provides a deep family drama.
