2 out of 5 stars Helpful but repetitious and ultimately insufficient.......2007-05-12

On almost every page we are reminded that we must be honest. Give me a break. On the other side of the detail spectrum, there are a lot of dead ends, e.g. where one must fill out a form, but not send it to anyone. The main thing this book did for my cluster of heirs was put us all into a frame of agreement, i.e. we all bought the book, so we all had the same information. If the executor was not keeping up with something, the rest of us knew to send a reminder. But in the end, we decided to hire a lawyer to do the job. He knew a lot of stuff that wasn't in the book. What a relief.

5 out of 5 stars Thorough Detailed Insight of The Executor's Role.......2007-01-27

I purchased this book in June 2006 along with another Nolo publication called "Get It Together: Organizing Your Records for Loved Ones". Both books offer a treasure trove of information, resources, forms, websites, government agencies, etc. to plan the nuts and bolts of your estate should there be an unfortunate call from the grim reaper for you or close relatives or friends.

I feel such a sense of freedom and security knowning all my affairs are in order should I be involved in an accident, be incapacitated or die. In addition, I have educated myself now in a cogent state of mind. The Executor's Guide covers a lot of territory, so you do not what to be learning what to do under emotional and tragic circumstances if at all possible.

Just by looking at the Table of Contents alone, I think it's safe to conclude there will be a number of chapters of where you will have a basic understanding of the title, but lack a more detailed appreciation of the subject matter. All materials are presented in a down to earth style with hints, tricks and traps to avoid along the way.

Executor's Guide is at it's greatest when discussing an event or responsibility, who does and doesn't need to be involved, discussing the legal ramifications and how the legal system works generally with respect to the event and the next steps to take. Please pickup this excellent resource you can share with others in your family or friends, so you can effectively deal with someone's estate if you are asked and learn some tips to manage your own records.

4 out of 5 stars Executor reviews Executor's Review.......2007-01-10

An excellent guide for those of us struggling to manipulate the legal maze of probate. After having read the book, I was able to avoid asking as many questions of an attorney resulting in savings to the estate of hundreds of dollars. More importantly, I was able to deal with heirs and family members in a fair and intelligent manner. No one has been able to complain of things not being explained clearly or of the process moving too slowly. I would recommend the book to anyone who is about to administer an estate. It is a great tool for an heir or family member who simply wants to be better informed.

5 out of 5 stars Review of Executor's Guide.......2006-08-09

I discovered this book in the our city library, and decided to purchase it as I felt that it would be very useful. It covered most of the areas of information an Executor or Trustee would want to know. My neighbor also read the book and some of the subject areas made her decide to go back to an attorney with more questions concerning her current Trust.

I would highly recommend this book for individuals who may become Executors or Trustees. It covered information in a simplistic manner in lieu of using lawyer language. It also covers tax ramifications but is not the basic goal of this helpful publication.

4 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, if a little redundant.......2006-07-24

I would recommend The Executor's Guide not only to people who have been (or expect to be) named executors, but to anyone preparing a will or living trust. One of the most valuable chapters, in fact, is designed to help a future executor, by listing information he or shw would need to settle your estate -- bank accounts, location of vital records, etc. For those who are about to go through probate or distribute property held in trust, the book literally gives step-by-step instructions, all with a minimum of legalese and jargon. My only criticism is that some ideas -- even whole paragraphs -- are repeated in different chapters. But if you don't intend to read the book cover to cover, that wouldn't be a problem (and it might not bother you even if you do).

5 out of 5 stars Life/Marrige saver.......2007-04-12

This book has been very helpful. It promotes fixing the problem BEFORE hitting rock-bottom. I have used some strategies and I have been successful so far. It is, of course, a process that takes time, but this book gives hope. I highly recommend this book to anyone who lives with an alcoholic but isn't ready to hit rock-bottom with them. These strategies take effort on the readers part, but it is worth it.

5 out of 5 stars must-read.......2007-01-03

The best book I've found for friends and family members of alcoholics and drug addicts. I read it in two sittings and plan to re-read it as my boyfriend goes through the recovery process. This book has saved my sanity, and may have saved his life.

5 out of 5 stars Insightful, cutting edge help for those with family problems.......2004-02-11

This book provides practical real-world direction for dealing with painful, frustrating situations involving substance using family members. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a family member who won't get help for their addiction. It is easy to read and gives clear direction for real world problems.

5 out of 5 stars A brave new approach.......2004-02-11

For anyone who has struggled with the helplessness and the pain of loving an alcoholic, this is the book for you. Meyers and Wolfe lay out a definitive and realistic plan of ACTION. Finally someone has the courage to say "You CAN help your loved ones." This unique approach has the potential to give new hope to so many. Thank you to these authors.

5 out of 5 stars Review by professional coach who works with grief..........2007-06-15

This is an excellent grief resource that provides a solid roadmap to go along with the book. The activities are meaningful and help one who has recently suffered a loss go through the grieving process faster.

You will get the most benefit if you read the book and do the activities provided in this workbook. However, you could work with each of these separately.

The The Grief Recovery Handbook : The Action Program for Moving Beyond Death Divorce, and Other Losses is also quite popular and geared toward losses of all types. This book is strongly focused on a recent loss, but will be useful to anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one.

I found this workbook and its companion book, "I wasn't ready to say a goodbye" a tremendous help after the sudden death of our 36b year old daughter. It contains very practical help, but more importantly gave me a sense that I was not alone. The authors very effectively used their experience to help others work through their grief.

"As we live our life, we can choose to become a light for those we have lost. We can carry their memory, their hopes, their dreams into the future." ~Brook Noel

The need to talk about loss can lead to a deeper healing process and having a comforting workbook provides a place of understanding. In order to move through the grieving process, Brook Noel and Pamela Blair explain the process of grief.

They start the book with notes for the first few weeks, lists of calls that need to be made and information on who needs to be notified. There are place to write all the information you need to remember.

They explain the emotions of fear, anger and depression and also provide calming exercises. There are helpful guides for anyone helping others with loss and the section on Learning through Loss provides an excellent list of positive affirmations. There are ideas about Memory Books and ways to honor someone through donations or a living memorial.

The third chapter answers many questions that need to be answered. Should you take medication to get through the process or would a natural therapy work better? I have found the Bach Rescue Remedy to be very effective and comforting.

Explaining the situation to children and dealing with the holidays are also issues to consider. Writing poetry and memories in a journal are also ideas that are helpful and healing. The quotes and poems throughout the workbook are beautiful and carefully chosen.

Understanding grief can also help you with all areas of loss in your life, because I think we go through them when we lose anything or anyone we truly love. So in that regard, this book is for everyone and will be appreciated by counselors, pastors, family members, friends and especially by anyone who is currently experiencing the affects of loss. Additional books and CDs are also available.

The workbook is full of insightful questions and exercises to help you understand what you are going through and appreciate and accept yourself. From there you can learn, grow, and heal. A very good book for those who have bipolar disorder and for the friends and family members of those with bipolar disorder as well. A well written book with lots of workbook pages.

5 out of 5 stars The best I've read.......2007-08-23

As a parent of a bipolarII, I have read a number of books on the subject in order to find ways in which we family members could be of help. This is by far the best of them. It is clearly organized and written, incorporating a workbook which the bipolar person can use to individualize his/her management of the disease, and lots of wonderful support for families. Julie Fast (the author) is bipolar and knows whereof she speaks!

4 out of 5 stars Very Helpful!.......2007-07-11

I had also bought another bipolar disorder workbook, and this one is definately my favorite of the two. This one addresses both Bipolar I and II, whereas the other one acted like Bipolar II didn't even exist! This one also seems more comprehensive, dealing with diet, and supplements and other things that are helpful to bipolar patients.

5 out of 5 stars At last a book that explains in layman's terms........2007-05-30

This book is clear and concise and tells it like it is. I originally borrowed it from the library and was immediately impressed. So many Doctors have written books on mental health conditions including Bipolar Disorder but unless one has the condition one cannot really understand what it can be like. The help that it will give to not only the person with Bipolar, but also friends and family is tremendous. Thanks Julie, keep up the good work.

5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2007-04-11

This is a great book for those who suffer from bipolar illness and their friends and family. Actually, it is a workbook that encourages the bipolar person to write down, for instance, what their bipolar triggers are and then to share these triggers with family and friends so that they can recognize and call them to the bipolar person's attention in a helpful way. Julie coaches friends and family members on how to communicate appropriaately rather than reacting to the bipolar person.
I would strongly encourage people suffering from bipolar illness and their friends and family members to purchase a copy of this book by Julie Fast.

This collection of inspirational stories will undoubtedly touch many hearts. Written by authors who have lost loved ones, these stories offer comfort, peace and understanding to those going through the grieving process. Individual people deal with grief in their own ways and within their own time, but the guidance and support they receive from others is what helps them through it. One of the key messages of Chicken Soup for the Grieving Soul is that togetherness and sharing are the keys to moving on. Each one has found that putting thoughts and feelings into words is not only cathartic, it allows them to reconnect with their loved one and others. Words of encouragement are plentiful in this edition and they go straight to the heart. Chapters encompass the complete grieving experience and include: Final Gifts, the Power of Support, Coping and Healing, Those We Will Miss, Special Moments, Insights and Lessons, and Living Again. Readers will be comforted and inspired by the stories of regaining strength and hope, such as holding meaningful services, performing thoughtful deeds and cherishing special memories. Most important, just as the writers have come to appreciate life through the grieving process, readers will discover how to do the same. This soothing bowl of stories is the perfect gift to bring comfort, strength and courage.

I was quite disappointed in this book. My husband passed away and I was reaching out for "help" in any way I could find it....in dealing with losing my husband. I haven't finished the book YET, but I've read 1/2 and so far, it's too "broad". Wish they would come out with a Chicken Soup for the Grieving Soul...on both the loss of a husband or wife. In other words, seperate from all grieving souls. I lost both parents, and the loss of a spouse to me, if very different and hurts a whole lot more.

4 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup`s Review.......2006-08-15

In the book, Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul on Love & Friendship, it has many

characters, basic plots, events, and settings. It tells you many different and a variety of

stories that can happen to any teenager. For example: falling in love, breaking up,

friendship, tough times, family, and growing up. Love happens to everyone around us

and is a very common thing among teenagers. You can fall in love with the wrong

person and be having tough times. Also, friendship and family problems are very

common. Everything a teenager has passed or may happen to at any time are stories

written in the book to help you understand and see that most teenagers like you have the

same problems.

This book has influent me in many ways by teaching me that everyone has problems

and we have to fight and move on. Everything happens for a reason and we just have to

accept it. We need to live life as it is and learn from our own mistakes and know we are

not perfect, we are who we are. Before reading this book, I thought differently. Now, I

know that many people pass through hard times and some with good. Life is a way to

express our feelings and live life at its fullest because we were all brought here for a

reason and we should make the most out of it.

It tells me about all people that each one of us has our own problems and we have

others to relate to. I learn about myself that I have others that have my own problems

and some are even passing through the same things I am. This book has many stories

that people around us can relate to and learn from them. If we don't make mistakes, how

can we learn from them! Everyone has their own way of thinking and that is what

makes us unique. The style of the book is written in paragraphs and chapters with

figurative language that tells many different stories.

This is an easy-to-read book that discusses the basic skills of helping children grieve. It is also a nice resource to give parents of grieving children because it isn't as long as some of the other books I have read in this category.

4 out of 5 stars Good review of basic strategies.......2006-01-21

A very good review of the basic strategies that have proven to really help adults and children under these circumstances.I will also recommend to read "30 ways to help a grieving child" where you can find other complementary information and guidance. The two books are very clear and offer very useful concrete advise on what to do and what not to do BEFORE and after the death of a loved one.

5 out of 5 stars Helps adults understand what a child is going through.......2004-01-02

My brother recently died suddenly, leaving behind a daughter nearly two years old. This book helped us understand what she is going through and also what to expect in the coming months. It is very good at explaining that children mourn in an entirely different way than adults do, so that behaviors that seem contradictory or heartless are actually not that at all. It also helped us know what to tell her and how to do it.

I highly recommend it, especially for children that are a bit too young for art therapy, but old enough to understand that something is wrong.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read even if you are not facing this challenge.......1998-02-10

Every parent, educator and concerned adult should read this book even if they are not currently helping a child through the loss of a loved one. Parents often spend a great deal of time reading about child development but they should not deglect another important part of development -- learning and dealing with death. This book was extremely valuable with helping me help my children deal with the death of their Grandfather.

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully written. A must for all who work with children.......1996-12-09

Helping Children Cope with the Loss of a loved one, gives practical hands-on advice on how to help children from infants to 18 through the grieving process. Dr. Kroen explains how children at all ages and stages perceive and react to death. This book has recently won the 1996 Parent's Choice Award for excellence

Looking back, John Edward now sees the early signs that he was destined to become an acclaimed psychic and medium. "There were times when I knew things I shouldn't have known," he writes. "Simple things like who was coming over, or who was on the phone." He knew events in family history that no one had told him about. He was inexplicably fascinated with television characters that possessed supernatural powers. He'd see auras around schoolteachers and hear voices that whispered true information in his mind. Eventually his gifts expanded into hearing the names of spirits "who'd gone to the other side." Finally, as a teenager Edward began to claim rather than question his psychic abilities and committed his life work to pursuing and learning about his gifts. Now that he has become a renowned medium (appearing on numerous talk shows, including Larry King Live), Edwards has written an entertaining "my life as a psychic" type of autobiography, packed with fascinating true stories. At the same time, Edward offers an engaging self-help book, teaching readers how to visit a medium and even showing seekers how they can recognize and develop their own psychic abilities. --Gail Hudson

4 out of 5 stars Still Wanting More Answers!!!.......2007-07-28

For those who are touched by this book, I want you to know that there is something we can't explain. We all have paranormal abilities like John Edward, James Van Praagh, Sylvia Browne, and Char Margolis to name a few. The book is reassuring at times because it makes you feel like you're not alone in this world as some people might perceive us to be weird or strange. The book is about John Edward's biography and is ever evolving psychic abilities. He talks about getting depressed or iritable around negative events. I got this book probably before September 11, 2001 so it doesn't have anything to do with it. For me, I recognized that power and fear when the predictions come true. I'm not so much into contacting the deceased as I am concerned with the future but at the same time, our psychic abilities don't always work to our advantages like getting lottery numbers or picking the right mate. In fact, we can pick for others but we just can't pick for ourselves. John's honesty comes through in his writing and it's an okay biography as well as reassuring that this is not all there is but I want more answers especially about our past lives, our spirit guides, and why we're drawn to certain people. Maybe that could be his next book.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Read!.......2007-07-20

One Last Time was terrific! John Edwards did an excellent job of explaining his gift with the world in a very pragmatic and humorous way. The explanations of the "unexplained", which may have happened to you or those close to you, are sensible and can provide even the most skeptical with a level of comfort not easily found.

5 out of 5 stars fan of crossing over.......2007-04-21

john is a top medium his book is like been in the show well written and a comfort to read as all the others, his personality shines in one last time,i do believe there is more, another book the calling of your true self elizabeth anne bell is another book i could not put down it also rings with truth both well worth reading

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.......2007-04-01

John Edward is a remarkable man. I loved this book because it made me feel that those that I have loved and who have gone to the other side are really still here with me.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to Read and Interesting.......2007-03-14

I found while reading this book I could almost hear John speaking. It was really written in the same style as he speaks so I was comfortable with it from the beginning.

I liked the fact that it started from his beginnings as a child and progressed through what was at the time his current situation.

I would recommend reading this book first, before any of his others. It will give a better point of reference for his following books as he seems to refer back to it in some of his other writings. My wife tried to read his most recent book first and found it much easier to "get" him by stopping and reading this one first, at my suggestion.

5 out of 5 stars a must for every child's library.......2007-03-09

This is one of my favorite children's books. The classic Mother Goose tales coupled with Mary Engelbreit's beautiful illustrations makes this a must for every child's library. I originally purchased this book for my "Grandma Hope Chest" but it has now become a traditional shower gift. If you are looking for the perfect Mother Goose book this is the one for you.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Engelbreit Art.....As usual.......2007-02-28

I purchased this for my Granddaughters and was very pleased to be giving it to them for a gift. The book is just beautiful, and hopefully, will be around for a long time. If you are a fan of Mary Engelbreit, or just looking for a lovely, colorful, fun Mother Goose book, you will not be disappointed. I was very pleased with Amazon's quick shipping and prices. I'll be doing more of my gift shopping here in the future.

4 out of 5 stars Lovely Pictures, Fun Rhymes.......2007-02-25

My then-six-month-old received this for Christmas. Now eight months, she loves looking at the pictures. Unfortunately, she has already torn one page of the book. That's why I gave it 4 stars: if it's actually to be used by a young audience, I wish they had printed it on sturdier, board book type paper. (Now, Mommy holds the book while she sits in her high chair.) Of course, the artwork is lovely enough to appeal to an adult audience, too. Several of the basic, familiar nursery rhymes, but some that are pretty obscure -- but fun -- too. Overall, both Mommy and baby enjoy this book.

5 out of 5 stars My son loved it!.......2007-02-16

I have a 2 and a half month old and I could not believe it when I opened the book and he started smiling. We usually lay down on the bed and I have him looking up at the book. He loves the colors and I know that one day he'll love the rhymes. He smiles every time I take that book out.
I would highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful book!.......2007-08-24

I have given this book to several people, after having received it after my sister passed away. It is so comforting and the pictures are just beautiful. I can't say enough about this book. Everyone I have given it to has truly loved every page.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book.......2007-08-17

This book is a great gift for someone who has lost a loved one. I purchased 3 so that I could have a couple on hand. It is short with little wording, but the wording that is included is simply beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sympathy Gift.......2007-07-22

I have given this book to several friends who have lost their mother. They have all responded with a sincere thank you and several wanted to know where they could purchase for others.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.......2007-01-03

I lost my mother in September, she was 84. She was very, very close to me and my children. My youngest child, who is fourteen, was very distraught and could not sleep. I bought this book for him, mostly, but my other six children were intrigued with the pictures and the versus in the book. It was soothing and helped them through a tremendously tragic time in their lives.

5 out of 5 stars the Gift of a Memory.......2006-08-01

Everything arrived in good order and in a very short time.
Thanks

Book Description

While they are giving care, the nation's 25 million family caregivers rarely get a rest. Gone are the days when you could rely on others to do the work of caring for a loved one in your family. America's healthcare system throws many of the vital decisions, costs and burdens back on the family.

This book clearly defines your vital role in developing your loved one's care plan. It teaches you to deal successfully with managed care organizations, home health services, and especially your loved one; and arms you with the knowledge and skills you need for deciding if your loved one's care is appropriate, if your doctor is the right one, if something more is needed. From wills and powers-of-attorney, to practical tips for dealing with disabilities, to long term care options, to battling stress and depression -- the "shared wisdom" in this book comes not only from the experienced editors of Today's Caregiver Magazine, but also from the inspiring personal stories of readers of the magazine who have learned to "stand up to the system when the system no longer stands up for your loved one."

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Read For Caregivers!.......2004-07-11

Caregiving usually doesn't happen gradually. Families are often thrust into the situation because of a crisis, without any experience on how to manage the overwhelming stress, responsibilities, legalities, and medical aspects. Gary Barg has done an excellent job sorting it all out with 'The Fearless Caregiver', guiding the reader through the maze. Very easy to read, motivating, empowering, and highly recommended!

Gary was a welcomed guest on my Internet Radio Program, 'Coping with Caregiving' on wsRadio. Online archive available.

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for all Caregivers!.......2002-04-05

It is about time that someone tackled the issues that caregivers face. It can often be a lonely and confusing time. I was a caregiver for my mother a few years ago and looked everywhere for a book like this. I needed something to walk me through all of the things I didn't understand. This a well-crafted, easy to read and understand book that all caregivers should read. I wish it had been available five years ago! I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars The Fearless Caregiver.......2002-03-02

I recently purchased this book by Gary Barg. It is a terrific source for all caregivers and has every aspect that needs to be addressed in it. It takes you through every part of caregiving, from how to take care of yourself to attending to legal matters promptly. There is a list of ideas to help make your patient safe in his/her surroundings. This is valuable tool for every caregiver. It is superbly written and easy to read. It has been placed in our Parkinson's Library for our members to read.

5 out of 5 stars Great help for Caregivers.......2002-01-30

This book compiles a variety of articles and poems, helpful practical hints and thoughtful commentary on the difficult task of caring for a loved one. As the owner of an internet list for caregivers of Parkinsonians, I have recommended it to others, and have received feedback from them, which indicates they found it "worth every cent" of the cost. The format is very readable, with short pieces suited to the busy lives of caregivers.
