Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Following the explosive events of Star Trek® Nemesis, the Romulan Star Empire is in disarray, and Ambassador Spock attempts to render aid by launching a last-ditch effort to reunify the Romulans with their distant forebearers, the Vulcans. But when Spock is publicly assassinated at a Romulan peace rally, Starfleet and the Federation are unable to search for the criminals responsible without triggering an intergalactic war.
Thus, it falls to James T. Kirk, now retired, to investigate his beloved friend's murder. Given clandestine assistance by Captain Will Riker of the Starship Titan, and accompanied by his good friend Jean-Luc Picard, Kirk travels to Romulus as a civilian, along with his five-year-old child, Joseph, the cantankerous Doctor McCoy, retired Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott, as well as several members of Picard's crew, still waiting to return to duty on the badly damaged U.S.S. Enterprise NCC1701-E. But on Romulus' sister world, Remus, Kirk unexpectedly encounters an alluring enemy from his past as Picard and he discover Spock's apparent murder hides an even deeper mystery, reaching beyond the limits of the galaxy.
Trapped on a deadly, alien world on the eve of a Romulan civil war that could plunge the galaxy into a civilization-ending conflict, Kirk's investigation brings him to the heart of a staggering conspiracy. As he discovers the true threat facing the Romulans, he realizes that he must sacrifice the freedom of his son, whose very blood holds the secret to his destiny. Captain's Blood brings together both generations in a battle for the existence of all life in this galaxy, and beyond.

very good read.......2007-09-08
A very good book by THE captain himself. Anyone who enjoys StarTrek will enjoy this book. I recommend reading all three books written by William Shatner.
Part VIII of the Kirk Saga. William Shatner has given us another great entry........2006-10-13
Much like many other people who were not fans of Enterprise, I took a break from Star Trek all around. I have been watching and reading Star Trek since 1987 consistantly and felt it was time like many to give Star Trek a break. I had read Shatner's other books starting with Ashes of Eden to Preserver, and had greatly enjoyed them. They were all among my favorites. But, when I saw Captain's Peril on the shelf I didn't buy it. What a big mistake that was...
I picked up Captain's Blood 2 months ago and was blown away by how great this book was. The character development Shatner has put into this book is amazing and from beginning to end I was enthralled in one of the greatest Star Trek adventures I'd read. Luckily for me I didn't have to wait but a month or two for Captain's Blood's sequel Captain's Glory, and wow was that an amazing book.
Anyway, Captain's Blood is phenominal and highly recommended. I am reading Captain's Peril right now and wish I had read it first. READ the trilogy in order and the enjoyment will be ten fold. Again, Shatner has done another fine job with Captain's Blood.
Better than "Captain's Peril".......2005-07-30
William Shatner and his literary collaborators Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens have done a fine job writing about the "resurrected" James T. Kirk in several novels, of which this may be the best yet. It is certainly a major improvement over the first book in the current trilogy, "Captain's Peril". Shatner and the Reeves-Stevens have tied quite nicely the events of "Star Trek: Nemesis" with those in this novel. I found this a brisk, often exciting read, suitable for light summer literary entertainment.
Set in the aftermath of the events chronicled in the film "Star Trek: Nemesis", retired Starfleet captain James T. Kirk leads a secret Starfleet mission to Romulus, hoping to discover who was responsible for the public assassination of his old friend Spock, who was trying to foster unification between the Romulans and their distant Vulcan cousins. Soon he and his crew, including retired Captain Montgomery Scott, and his new dear friend Captain Jean-Luc Picard, will unexpectedly find themselves prisoners of the Remans and their Romulan allies in the Farr Jolan peace movement. Together they will unlock a secret and deal with an ancient enemy who holds the key to starting a devastating Romulan civil war which could destroy both the Federation and Klingon Empire. And Kirk will come to grips with the uncomfortable truth that his young son may be the person whose existence may or may not stop a potential Romulan-Reman civil war.
Kirk and Company reunite in the 24th century.......2005-07-30
This is the middle book of a trilogy about Captain James T. Kirk, the captain of the USS Enterprise. Oddly enough, for the uninitiated, this story is set in the 24th century, that of Picard and company. Kirk was resurrected by Borg technology, Scott survived the ride from the Original Series years in a transporter beam and Spock and McCoy simply live through the years, Spock naturally, due to a long lifespan and McCoy with the help of a LOT of technology.
Now, this crew unites with that of Picard's Enterprise and Admiral Janeway to combat a new threat to the galaxy. Someone is trying to start a Romulan civil war and the first thing they do is assassinate Spock, who has been working tirelessly in the effort to reunite the peoples of Romulus and Vulcan.
Kirk's son is believed to be important to the population of Remus, the sister planet of Romulus. While he tries to investigate the death of Spock, the slaves on Remus demand that Kirk turns his son over to them. Also, Kirk encounters an alien from his past, a story that is told I the 1st installment of this trilogy, Captain's Peril. Read that to learn more about the alien and the origin of the young human-romulan-klingon hybrid that the Kirk's son.
With all of this going on, how and Kirk and Picard and the rest prevent a war that may sweep across the galaxy? We all know they will, the fun is in finding out how.
This book is easy to read and moves along well. When the final part is published, I intend to see how it turns out.
Something of a disappointment........2005-05-27
The writing in this book is fair-to-middling, at least as good as we've seen before from Shatner. The characterizations are pretty good, especially the handling of Kirk (what a surprise). But the plot is basically an entire book of lead-in for the next book; very little is accomplished here, and considering that the overall plot was introduced LAST book, we ought to have made more progress by now. I'll admit, it wasn't quite a case of the book having no beginning or ending; the beginning was sufficiently separate from the teasers in the previous book to stand on its own, and we did tie up a FEW loose ends at the end of this book. But the main conflict, far from being resolved, is MORE tangled at the end of this book than it was at the beginning. If you LIKE books with continuing plots and cliffhanger endings, you'll doubtless love this one. If, like me, you prefer a book, even one that is part of a larger story, to conclude a major plotline within the larger background plot, this book is only marginally satisfying.

Book Description
Arturo Pérez-Reverte is one of the most beloved writers in the world. His bestselling novels, including The Club Dumas and The Queen of the South, have been published in fifty countries and translated into twenty-eight languages. Now, with The Adventures of Captain Alatriste, he delivers a magnificent series, already a million-copy bestseller in Spain, that chronicles the heroic adventures of a seventeenth-century swordsman.
In Purity of Blood, the second novel in the series, the courageous Alatriste is considering rejoining his old regiment to fight in Breda-but his blade leads him to another adventure. A desperate father hires him to rescue his daughter from a convent where a powerful priest is said to be using the girl as his personal concubine. The father has been prevented from legal recourse because the priest has threatened to reveal that the man's family is "not of pure blood"-is, in fact, of Jewish descent -which will all but destroy the family name. Alatriste agrees to help, and several nights later, under the cloak of darkness, a rescue attempt is made.
But soon Alatriste discovers that he has become part of a religious and political conspiracy that leads all the way to the highest levels of the Inquisition. When a date is set to burn the man's daughter at the stake, Captain Alatriste springs into action -sword first-setting off a series of twists and turns that will keep readers riveted to the page.
Translation by Margaret Sayers Peden
Customer Reviews:
Auto de Fe, Anyone?.......2007-10-05
'Purity of Blood' is the second in the Captain Alatriste series. Pereze-Reverte once again takes the reader to 17th century Spain and the rule of Philip IV and the Spanish Inquisition. Monty Python may not have expected it, but the Spanish Inquisition is at the heart of this tale.
The story is fairly straightforward. Alatriste's poet friend the don Francisco Quevedo (an historical figure) seeks the swordfighter's help in freeing a family friend from an "unpleasant" life in a convent. Mayhem ensues and our narrator young Inigo Balboa finds himself in the tender clutches of the Inquisition.
A good story, but Perez-Rverte's real strength is putting the reader inside the skin of a 17th century hidalgo as well as the fears of living in a society where the Inquisition holds sway. The presentation of an auto de fe through the eyes of one its, umm, participants is fascinating. I highly recommend reading Captain Alatriste first. You will understand and enjoy the book much more.
Another Period Swashbuckler with An Almost Modern Perspective .......2007-09-03
Arturo Perez-Reverte keeps his swashbuckling Captain Diego Alatriste going in this one, the second in the Alatriste series, as the indomitable soldier of fortune and his boy apprentice, Inigo de Balboa, son of one of the Captain's former comrades in arms, stumble into still another adventure.
This time they run up against the Inquisition and the Spanish obsession with the pure blood of "Old Christians", a euphemism for Catholic Spaniards who have no Jewish blood in their ancestry (since the Jews of the land were either driven out or forced to convert a century or so before this story takes place). Alatriste finds himself enlisted by a poet friend into a Quixotic scheme to rescue the daughter of a Spanish caballero of, it turns out, suspect blood. The young girl has been inducted, apparently against her will, into a convent that is said to serve as a front for a rogue priest's private seraglio and Alatriste is prevailed upon to lead a rescue attempt. Things take a sharp turn southward as Alatriste leads his small force of conspirators in the dark of night onto the convent's grounds and poor Inigo, the Captain's ward and page, ends up in the hands of the Inquisition.
Alatriste must figure out who is behind the machinations that have ensnared them and find a way to cut the knot that binds. The dauntless Captain remains the strong silent type as he scuttles about in the shadows, dodging the Inquisition's agents and seeking out those who have conspired against him. At the very heart of the plot lurks an old and deadly enemy and Alatriste will get his chance to at last engage this man before the story runs its course.
There are weaknesses here, unfortunately, including a slow and almost ponderous beginning and a heavy emphasis on poetic stanzas which don't play as well in English as they may, perhaps, in Spanish. All are recorded in a somewhat tiresome fashion by our narrator, none other than the young Inigo, ensnared, in this book, at the very center of the web that has been spun for Alatriste. Fortunately, the Captain, honorable and deadly as he is, still has a few friends in high places and a few chits he can call in.
One particular problem with the book, is its narration. Told in first person throughout, Inigo spends much of this adventure in an Inquisition prison cell in Toledo, so it seems rather odd when he recounts the Captain's actions in detail, as they are occurring far away from him in Madrid. The idea, one supposes, is that Inigo learned everything that happened afterwards from the other participants and put it all together many years later. Still, it rings odd to switch from Inigo's firsthand account of his own captivity in the hands of the Inquisitors to an equally detailed telling of the Captain's nighttime escapades. Either Inigo had very good sources, including the Captain himself, who is famously taciturn, or a great imagination in which case his tale is not entirely reliable (though this is never suggested by the narration itself). Such reports as he provides are jarring because they seem to sap the logic of the narrative.
Still, the book proceeds swiftly and engages both in terms of plot and its capacity for recreating the era of Spanish imperial decline. We get a rich sense of what Spain in the early 17th century might have been like, of the swaggering caballeros, hidalgos, poets and other courtly hangers on who prance and mince about the towns and countryside, engaging in various schemes and preening themselves for the ladies. Along with the fast paced action which occasionally kicks in, and the fun trying to unravel the mystery that lies behind the Captain's latest situation, the book is certainly worthwhile. I plan to read the next in the series.

Captain Alatriste is the icon of an epoch, when Spain, from being the biggest power of the world, started its decadence. The recreation of the times is accurate, full of flavor and colors. I recommend this book for people who lives the adventures books, like mental movies.
Swashbuckler par excellence but ..........2007-06-24
No question but I prefer The Seville Communion or The Club Dumas - give me a good mystery anytime. I had not read Captain Alitriste which put me at a disadvantage for my expectations. I am unlikely to put swashbucklers in my favorite reads category but Purity of Blood is an interesting afternoon's diversion. What puts this book above the average historical thriller?
1. The characters are fleshed out and thoughtful in the sense of being true to their historical time and position. While Spanish society is shown with all its warts - the Inquisition, social interactions that easily escalate to bloodshed, hypocracy and mysticism thriving side by side ... - the characters are both products of and critics of the society.
2. The setting and plot reflect detailed knowledge of the time on the part of the author. The novel has a sense of reality to it that is often missing in the genre.
3. Poetry is quoted throughout the book - and not just by the poet. Here and there a very perceptive philosophical statements makes its way into the text. This provides the reader with a bit to think about rather than counting the pages until the next crisis.
Come for the swordfights - stay for the verse.......2007-06-23
Swordsman and his youthful sidekick facedown villains and religious fanatics in long ago Spain. The action is swift, the philosophical asides and accompanying poetry of some of the players is marvelous. Truth be told, the characters with their exotic names kind of run together. But still a delight.

Book Description
Peter Blood is a physician and an English gentleman who becomes a pirate out of a rankling sense of injustice. Barely escaping the gallows after his arrest for treating wounded rebels who were fighting the oppressive King James, Blood flees England and becomes enslaved on a Barbados plantation of buccaneers. When he escapes, no ship sailing the Spanish Main is safe from Blood and his companions. Abounding with adventure, color, romance, and strong social commentary on the evils of slavery and the dangers of intolerance, this classic adventure is a story about how oppression drives men to desperate actions, how fate plays a hand in everyone's life, and how love is ultimately the greatest power of all.
Edited with an introduction by Gary Hoppenstand.

Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Captain Blood is a classic pirate romp, entertaining and with plenty of action.
Blood, the main character, helps the wrong guy, and earns the enmity of the authority types. He becomes a slave in the Carribean.
He finds a hot chick, and escape to become the pirate Captain Blood.
This has become one of my favorite books!.......2007-06-23
This book is great. Rafael Sabatini did really weaved a grand plot. The first chapter is a bit difficult to get through, but after that you are swept along in the ever moving story. You feel the tenseness of the some of the ship battles. You laugh at the wit, charm, and geniusness of Captain Blood in the most impossible odds. Rafael Sabatini knew how to use the english language in a way that keeps you interested. There is also a depthness in the way human emotions are described that sheds light on the human mind.
This is a book I will read again in the future.
Captain Blood is a great book.......2007-05-19
I was assigned to read this book for my language arts class. I am in the 6th grade, but my reading level is about at the 5th grade level. My Mom and I both agree that this book is above the level of understanding and vocabulary for most middle school students. There are several other students in the class having difficulty with this book. My Mom has been reading the book aloud to me and I think that the plot is great and the charaters seem real. Quality stories like Captain Blood always give you a lot to think about! I would recommend reading this book.
Great Swashbuckler.......2007-03-24
Our hero encounters tyranny, injustice, slavery, cruelty, rapine, vengeance, piracy, war, treachery and towering over them all... romantic love at a distance. His superior morality and quick wit allow him to conquer all. Reads fast and is great escapist fun!
Leave This World Behind..........2007-03-10
Remember when you were a kid and first discovered the time machine-like power of a book to transport you to distant centuries and places? Remember the hours you spent gloriously lost in its magical pages? Well yes, you CAN go home again and will when you enter the world of Rafael Sabatini, a historical fiction writer's writer if ever there was one.
CAPTAIN BLOOD is old-school adventure with a modern sensibility. By that I mean, Sabatini understands that romantic swashbuckling heroes must be realistic, too, and that his plot and fiction must be leavened with the truth of history for it to come off just right. In reading this book, then, you will learn something about the useful role of piracy and buccaneering in the Caribbean during the 17th century. No mere pawns on an oceanic chessboard, these pirates and privateers were players of substance in the war games and skirmishes between the nautical heavyweights of those days -- England, France, and Spain.
In addition to a completely engaging hero and a plot even short-attention spanned young readers can embrace, CAPTAIN BLOOD offers outstanding characterization and insight into mankind's cupidity, ambition, and thirst for power. Sabatini shows the so-called "respectable" nobles of the European countries to be every bit as bloodthirsty and criminal as the pirates they hunt down and despise, and CAPTAIN BLOOD is the perfect vehicle with which to do it.
If you haven't tried Sabatini, you're denying yourself. This is the book! Watch a common man of uncommon ability and charisma match wits and strength, guile and subterfuge, and words of love and hate with nefarious admirals, despicable villains, a bold and beautiful woman, and high-placed European snobs all in the accurately-rendered setting of the sunny Caribbean. It'll make you feel young again (even if you're only 12), I promise!
Customer Reviews:
A "Blood" even Sabatini would rave about! Fabulous!.......2007-04-09
If I could only take 5 books to a desert island, Captain Blood would be one of them. CRT/Jerry Robbins has done a fabulous--utterly fabulous--job with this audio work. The music, the actors--everything is wonderful! I absolutely disagree with the reviewer who stated "lousy accents." Jerry Robbins has Blood done to a fine T. Blood is Irish and Robbins plays this role like a grand master. TO CRT: Please bring us more of the Blood novels...the sequels are just as grand and I wish you had more of your splendid work online in CD format for purchase. Go Colonial Radio Theatre! You are the best there is!
A great audio book.......2007-02-11
I've not had a chance to finish the set, but I've enjoyed it so far a great deal.
AN AMAZING AUDIO PRESENTATION.......2007-01-12
I bought this CD and before I had a chance to listen to it, I read another review which slammed it right down to the music. So, I listened to it with a bias, waiting for it to be horrible. It isn't. Not by a long shot. Not by a VERY long longshot. CAPTAIN BLOOD, as produced by the COlonial Radio Theatre is without question, one of the most spectacular action shows on CD! I am also a fan of the book, and these characters leaped off the pages and into my mind - with the help of a few thousand sound effects.
The production has the feel of a 1930's or 40's swashbuckler. The acting is great, and I am sorry, but the accents are just fine! Another reviewer was right - Errol Flynn didnt use an Irish accent either. And in the movie, Ross Alexander, Robert Barrett, Guy Kibbee, Olivia DeHavilland, NONE of them used ANY accents, while Basil Rathbone did an over the top cartoonish French accent - so, if someone is going to slam this major effort, slam the classic as well, because they did the same thing! I LOVE this CD. The battles rock the speakers - and the cannons booming terrifying.
One of the most breath-taking scenes in the whole show is the first time Blood and his crew set sail - the music and the sounds of the sails, and the rigging ... it's just magnificent. Other hilights that stayed with me - the capture of the Spanish ship, the battle of Cartagena, the incredible acid tongued dialog, a flogging scene that is so intense I found myself cringing - but that scene alone shows Blood turn on a dime. It is at that moment he realizes what he has to do.
The music score is, in a word - BEAUTIFUL. This score is worthy of Korngold, and has a sense of that style about it and is played by a full orchestra. This reminded me of the classic Warner Bros. scores from those grand epics. So, in the end, I think this is one of the best radio plays I've heard. I love it. It's magnificent. It's Captain Blood - coming to life before your very ears.
A really great story told in a true blockbuster style.......2006-12-09
Simply put, I loved this program! Of course the story is as good as they get, but it is the acting and music score that makes this something special. (I have notice one fellow who had issues with the accents, but cut us a break...this is an American production meant for American ears. If Captain Blood was acted (as he suggested)with an Irish accent, no one would have a clue what he was saying...As I recall, even Errol Flynn did not use an Irish accent..., and that movie version was pretty darned good).
As far as I am concerned, they did a great job of capturing that 1940s feel. ..and I am glad the cast did not sound like Monty Pythons Flying Circus. If it is action you seek, this wonderful production is just the ticket. 5 Stars from this reviewer! Enjoy.
Great Story - lousy accents.......2006-12-08
I can't fault the story, because Captain Blood is one of my favourite escapist adventures. It's my comfort reading, an old familiar friend. Alas the same cannot be said for this dramatic adaptation of Captain Blood. A mammoth production that faithfully follows the book, it is marred by vocal performances by actors who seem to have learnt English as spoken by the English from old Sherlock Holmes movies. I am English and spent most of the seven hours plus wincing at the mangling of my mother tongue. It may sound churlish to US readers but imagine hearing a Bronx accent in the Louisiana Bayou, or imagine George Washington speaking with a Jamaican accent - it was all wrong.
To make matters worse my ears were assaulted by dreadful cheesey mood music that belonged to an early 80's video game.
Fans of the good Captain would be better served by seeking out the sublime reading of the book also available on Blackstone Audio as read by Robert Whitfield. Some 11 hours long and a bit more expensive it's the one for me.

Really fun book! Full of puzzles, counting and mystery!.......1999-06-23
On every page of this book, you are challenged to seek and count, to study the treasure map, to use logic and observation, and to follow directions to find the clues and ultimately the treasure. The book is written in a comic book format, with lots of very detailed illustrations. My 6 year old enjoys me reading the book to her, as she solves the mystery; an older child would enjoy reading it for himself and unraveling the mystery. Each challenge is answered as part of the story on the next page. My daughter has enjoyed it so much, that now I'm buying it for all my neices and nephews.

Swashbuckling, romantic and adventurous.......2004-11-27
I was surprised to find there were more books written about Captain Blood. I had read the original Captain Blood and loved it. I think it is high time Hollywood remade the movie too. Captain Blood Returns takes place during the same time as the original Captain Blood story. It is a collection of more adventures that could very well have been added to the original story. I can't wait to read the next book waiting for me--The Fortunes of Captain Blood.
captain blood returns.......2002-06-01
THIS WAS A EXCELLANT STORY OF THE BUCCANEERS OF THE SPANISH MAIN.
I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME SEE WHY THIS BOOK IS NOT MORE FAMOUS THAN THE ORIGINAL BOOK. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL TO THIS STORY TO CONTINUE THE THRILL ON AND ON.
Just can't get enough of Peter Blood?.......2001-02-18
Not so much the return of the Captain, darlin', but his "overlooked" adventures in Sabatini's first book, begining shortly after his escape from slavery. Contains all the clever tricks and swashbuckling you've come to expect in a series of short stories. Sabatini's talent really shines in this format and _Captain Blood Returns_ is entertaining to read all at once or bits at a time.
