There’s just one hitch: Meg is trying to escape from them on her own, and is never where she’s supposed to be. As tension mounts and the net tightens, only one thing is clear: The kidnappers aren’t going down without a fight. Before, it was Meg who was in trouble. Now both Meg and Aiden are in grave danger.

We read the first book, so we had to get this one as the sequel. Good quality time!
GREAT BOOK! BEST EVER!.......2007-07-11
Please note: You don't have to read the On The Run series for this to make sense, 'cause I didn't. This is a wonderful book, better than the others in the Kidnapped! series. Will Meg be found by Spidey and Tiger, or will Meg find civiliation first? And more importantly, will Meg's ransom be paid, and will Meg return home safe and sound, with the kidnappers behind bars- with the possible exception of Mickey, of course?...It was a great book and I finished all in one reading. It has a huge twist at the end that will make you want more.
My son loves it!.......2007-03-25
My son has read all of the Kidnapped series, he can not put them down.
Perfect for 5th graders!!!

In the last book of the KIDNAPPED series, many things happen to the Falconer family. Meg has escaped and is trying to survive in the mountainous wilderness when a blizzard hits.
Aiden is with Agent Harris looking for Meg while Louise and John Falconer are living with Agent Mike Sorenson--a man who hasn't broken a rule or taken a chance in his whole FBI career. More and more answers are being found...but more and more questions are being asked.
Now everyone is in a remote area, frantically searching for answers, and trying to find Meg. Find out in THE RESCUE what happens--is Meg saved by the FBI and reunited with her family, or are the Falconers left with grief over the loss of never getting their daughter back?
I give this whole series a big two thumbs up! The roller coaster keeps you going until the very end. I've already told all of my friends that they have to get Abduction (Kidnapped), Kidnapped Book: The Search (Kidnapped), and THE RESCUE. I think you should definitely read this series if you like very thrilling books. It feels like you are actually there living it!

In the sequel to Abduction (Kidnapped), the Falconers and the FBI are still frantically searching for Meg. It has been a little over a week since she was kidnapped and Aiden is getting restless. He hasn't slept, he's barely eaten, and a new agent has just been assigned to the case.
After the FBI got very close to getting Meg back, the kidnappers decide to move her to a new location. The new location is nearly impossible to find. But Meg doesn't give up hope. She is still planning to escape.
When a mysterious incident happens, Aiden is sure that it's a sign that Meg was sending him. But Agent Sorenson thinks otherwise. So Aiden decides to take matters into his own hands and go search for Meg on his own. This results in many run-ins with the law. Find out exactly what kind by reading this excellent book.
THE SEARCH, like the first book in the KIDNAPPED series, was an incredible thriller! Gordon Korman really knows how to write a story that will keep you guessing every time. I recommend this book to anyone who likes adventures. I think this book deserves five stars because it is action-packed and full of realistic details. It's almost like you are there!

I am pleased both with the delivery service of AMAZON and the caliber of the books being offered to our youth.

Kidnapped .......2007-02-26
Kidnapped is a wonderful book full of adventure. Robert Lewis Stevenson does a phenomenal job in creating the book. He puts so much strong detail into the characters, so that you almost think you are there standing next to them. He also pulls you into the story, with the amount of imagination he puts into the place and plot. I enjoyed how the plot went along. The plot was full of so much adventure. When you would think it was coming to an end, a whole new problem would come into place. Robert Lewis Stevenson is a great author and has done great things in this book.
The book Kidnapped by Robert Lewis Stevenson is about a young boy named David Balfor. His parents have died and he has just found out about his inheritance, but to receive his inheritance he must travel across the beautiful Scotland to his miserable Uncle's house. When he reaches his Uncle, Mr. Ebenezer, they learn about each other. Mr. Ebenezer gives David a cold hard bed and some food. After a rough stay with his uncle, things get worse David is kidnapped, sold into slavery and taken aboard about with mean rough men. David's life is in the risk of dieing when all of the sudden, a man of twenty or so, slender and strong arrives. Together David Balfor and his new friend Alan must take on a journey that is one huge risk. This book is filled with fun and adventure.
The author Robert Lewis Stevenson does many wonder things in the book Kidnapped, but as in most books there were some things I would have done differently. One thing would be the content and language, Stevenson has written the book in a Scottish content, so the language is harder to understand. I think that the book would be just that much better if it were easier to understand what the people are talking about and what is happening right then. The other and last thing that I would have changed would be the ending. In the end the book just ends, you don't find out everything that you were hoping to find out. The book could have been longer to explain the ending or it could have told in short detail what happened to all the characters. Stevenson has written a wonderful book that will, inspirer kids to write stories. Robert Lewis Stevenson created a wonderful book for older children and adults to read.
Good Literature Book, But Hard To Understand.......2007-02-08
I enjoyed reading this book because of the language, and how it is written. The story itself is also quite interesting, atleast of what I could understand. It is hard to understand the details of the story because of the writer's style (though I like the style, it is hard to understand.) So if you asked me what this story was about, I would be able to answer with the generel story. But if you asked me questions about details, it would be hard for me to answer them.
This is a book that I can imagine most adults loving. But for teenagers and younger, they might get bored after a while. Of course I am a kid myself, but I am considered more advanced in reading, and my attention span in classics is more higher than the average child or teenager.
Kidnapped.......2007-01-24
The setting for Robert Louis Stevenson's book Kidnapped, is in Scotland in 1751. During this time, Scotland is divided into the highlands and the lowlands. The highlands were home to the Scottish Jacobites. The Jacobites were Protestant and just wanted to be left alone, to live by their own rules, and to keep their traditions. The lowlands were the home of the "Whigs", people loyal to Britain. The Whigs were Catholic and represented the civilized world. During this time, they were trying to assimilate the Jacobites into the civilized world under the British king. This is important because the main character, David Balfour, is a Whig and becomes friends with the Jacobite Alan Breck. This friendship allows them to see what the other is like and they soon realize that they really aren't all that different. Alan shows David that the Jacobites aren't really the savage people that he thinks they are.
The main character, David Balfour, is a 17 year-old Whig whose parents have died and he goes to live with his unpopular uncle, Ebenezer. At the beginning of the book, David is young and inexperienced. When he met Alan Breck, he had begun to learn about the real world and how to survive in it. An example of this is when he was on the ship before Alan arrived, "I perceived two things; that the mate was touched with liquor, as the captain hinted, and that(drunk or sober) he was like to prove a valuable friend." (Chapter 7, pg. 61) After traveling with Alan for a bit, David learns through the Jacobites that you can't always judge a person based on where they come from. He even comes to realize that he wishes that his own people were more like the Jacobites. "If these are the wild Highlanders, I could wish my own folk wilder." (Chapter15, pg. 143) Through his adventures with Alan, David is a much wiser and mature person. David shows us this when at the end of the book he outwits his uncle and gets his overdue inheritance. Without Alan Breck, David would not have grown as a character. Alan is a swashbuckling hero who happens to be a Jacobite fighting the Whigs in Scotland. He doesn't really change other than he befriends a Whig and sees that they aren't all bad. They both learn that you can't judge people by first appearances. They show this by becoming best of friends.
One of most relevant themes in Kidnapped is that of loyalty and friendship. Ever since David and Alan met, they each had plenty of reason to leave the other. The first was when the ship was shipwrecked and they were separated. What Alan had done instead of just forgetting about David was to have people waiting for him to guide him to where Alan was. David discovers this when he reaches the first house, "I have a word for you that you are to follow your friend to his country, by Torosay." (Chapter 15, pg. 142) Another example of their loyalty is when they have warrants for their arrest. David again shows loyalty when he realizes that he could leave Alan and would be better off. "if I were too separate from Alan and his tell-tale clothes I should be safe against arrest, and might go openly about my business. - For generosity's sake, I dare not speak my mind upon this head; but I thought of it none the less." (Chapter 21, pg. 216) Even though it would be easier for David to leave, he decides to stick with Alan. He decides to stay with Alan because he learns that he can trust other people to look out for his best interests. Up to the point where David meets Alan, most everyone is doing what is best for them and doesn't really look out for David. When he meets Alan, Alan puts his trust in David and tries to help him. When David sees this, he puts his trust in Alan and finds that his trust is well placed. Through out the entire story, the theme of loyalty and friendship rings clear.
Overall I thought that Kidnapped was good. I liked the general storyline, but didn't quite understand what the characters were talking about all the time. Some of what they were talking about related to places or events that happened back then. If you didn't know about their history, you could get lost in their conversation. Also, just they way they talked was hard to understand. It did help to read some parts out loud because hearing your own voice would help you to understand what they are saying. Despite this, if you are looking for an adventure novel, but still want a challenge, you should read Kidnapped. It has some history, a good message, and ties that all in with adventure. I would give it 3 ½ stars out of 5.

Starter chapter book.......2007-08-23
My nine year old is just starting to finally get into chapter books this series has held his interest very well. He is now moving onto more chapter books and a wider variety than just the humorous books he has been reading. I take my advise from Dr.Seuss "Fill the house with books!"
The Abduction.......2006-12-07
The book I read was Kidnapped:The Abduction. the author is Gordon Korman. This book was published in May 2006. I rate this book a 5 because it has a lot of adventure and it was mysterious when Meg got captured and you didn't know who captured her so it kept you wondering. It started when Meg got captured when her brother Aiden and her were walking home from school and a van pulls over and captures Meg. Aiden tries to stop the van but there's just no way. He's the only one who saw her get captured. Why was she kidnapped? Well you should read the book to find out more.

Picture this--you and your sibling are walking home from school and all of a sudden, someone is attacking you and trying to kidnap you. Then instead of taking both of you they just take your younger sibling.
Well, this happened to ex-fugitive Aiden Falconer. The FBI accused his parents of doing something illegal so they went to jail for almost a year while Aiden and Meg were running away from the police so they wouldn't have to go into a temporary home. Then the FBI figured out they falsely accused the Falconers. When they got out of jail there were a lot of people who still believed they had done something wrong. Aiden and Meg called them Falconer-haters.
One day after school they were coming home from the bus and this van drives by slowly. They think nothing of it, but then it stops and two people come out and start attacking them. They can't get Aiden, so they take Meg and drive off.
After Aiden tries to chase after the van and can't catch it, he runs home and tells his parents. They call the local police. Then the FBI gets involved, so they call in special agent Emanuel Harris--the same agent who had arrested the Falconer parents in the first place. They tell the media. They hope they can find her soon!
THE ABDUCTION is great! It is the beginning of a three book series, KIDNAPPED. Gordon Korman really knows how to write a suspenseful book and make you want to read more and more. There are so many twists and turns, this book is sure to keep you on edge!

Kidnapped by: Gordon korman
Aiden struggles to fine his long lost sister. Who has gotten kidnapped by three people. A man, a young man, and a women. The only thing that will save megs life is her brother and a bag of two million dollars. Once Aiden has the two million dollars, the kidnappers go wild with the situation. Aiden almost gets a concussion. Now the kidnappers are furious. Now they are in the middle of no where with meg in the trunk.
The book was really exciting. Because it seemed if I was actually there. This book was really amazing to me. The main conflict was really fascinating. At the end of the book it was kind of disappointing because the book wasn't really finish. It had another book to it. And I hope I can read it soon. The main conflict interested me because it was like the news u see like a kidnapped child and you want to see what had happened to them, and want to try to help them.
The author that wrote this story is really good. He really knows what do write in a story to get the readers attention. I know that because it worked on me. He makes the characters so real. The authors vocabulary is really good for who ever reads this book. If you are 11 the words that he puts in here are really understandable.
My rating to this book would be a 5. My reason for this number is because it is amazing when you first read the book. To tell you the truth my opinion is that this book shows you what happens sometimes. Like the kidnappers just kidnap there kids to get money.
Well I hope you read this book. It is really fascinating and it really amazes you. Once you get into it you can stop reading it.

The Kidnapped King.......2007-02-28
This is a book about three friends who solve mysteries. In this book the three friends will rescue three rich people who are the King, Queen, and Prince.
Now I will tell you about the story. These friends names are Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose. These friends have solved many mysteries and saved many people from going to prison.
This author entertained my feelings. People write comments on his books because they like them. The mysteries he writes are very good.
The illustrator is also very good at drawing. He draws exactly what the author writes. The drawing looks really real.
I recommend this book because it is a very good mystery to read at night. I like the way he makes the kids find clues.
Fun Installment in a Solid Series.......2000-08-14
A new kid on the block (staying in Dink's house!), a little action (a kidnap!), a little language lesson (French!), and a lot of teamwork (involving both children, parents, and authority figures) leads to another intriguing tale and a happy ending. Ron Roy's A-To-Z-Mysteries have proven quite successful in our household. I've now read all eleven installments to my four-year-old son, and he has found them immensely entertaining. Similarly, our best friend's daughter, an advanced elementary school reader, promptly consumed these books and deemed them enjoyable. Sure, like most of the chapter book series for little people, the plots tend to be marginally predictable -- conversely, these books weren't written for the parents (and the children seem to find the mysteries sufficiently compelling). I also find that, at a certain level, the fact that the characters in these mysteries are (reasonably) normal children confronting seemingly pedestrian criminals is a welcome break from my son's fascination with the preternatural and his preference for the less realistic (but highly entertaining) series such as the Secrets of Droon, Bailey School Kids, and the Magic Tree House. Also, unlike many of the series books, it does not seem critical to read the books in order (although we do). It's also nice that the protagonists -- Dink, Ruth Rose, and Josh -- play well together, think through difficult problems, exhibit good manners and, for the most part, display the type of vocabulary you won't mind if your children repeat.

Good but not my favorite.......2006-12-27
THis was the third Phantom Stallion book I had read and It was good, but it's not my favorite. Ryan Slocum is in love with Hotspot's foal, Shyboots. When Linc says that he is going to destroy the colt because he's a "Mongrel" Ryan takes action. He talks Sam into hiding Hotspot and Shyboots with him.
Of course just a few hours later Linc shows up accusing Sam of stealing his horses.
Ryan left to go to San Fansico with his mother and twin sister, leaving Sam holding the bag. Sam takes Sherrif Ballard up to the place where they hid the horses, but they are no longer there!
All in all it's good. I recommend it.
Pretty good book.......2005-06-24
This book was pretty good, I liked the story but I thought it was a little too made up. Like things couldn't happen that way in real life. I just read Rusty the high flying Morgan horse and that book was a lot better. It seemed like it could really happen. I like the phantom books but I also like the morgan series cause the stories are more real.
Another Very Exciting Book in the Phantom Stallion Series!.......2005-06-12
I really enjoyed reading this book because it keeps you guessing until the very end. When two horses turn up missing, you have several possible suspects, and you never know for sure who is telling the truth. If you love horses and mysteries, this book has both.
Okay, but not great.......2005-04-29
I do like the Phantom Stallion series a great deal, but I was disappointed in the last couple of books. In the book before this one, the author left a lot of things unfinished and I was hoping that she would pick up where she left off. In the last book, the dangerous hunting dogs were still on the loose, Linc Slocum was in trouble in the mountains, and Blaze the River Bend Ranch dog was missing. I wanted to hear where Blaze was, how Linc was helped, and what they did to catch the dogs.
Instead, the story just picks up with Blaze back (never once even mentioning that he was missing), Linc being his normal "evil villain" self (which is getting more and more extreme with each book), and they mention once that the dangerous hunting dogs were sent back to Louisiana. But how did all this happen? How did they catch the dogs again, where was Blaze, and how did they manage to get Linc out of trouble? We don't know because the author says nothing.
The book itself is not bad, but it did get off on a bad note with me because all the problems and issues that the last book left open were more or less forgotten and she just charged into another story. The story is about Shy Boots, the colt of Apache Hotspot and Diablo, mentioned in the second book of the series: Mustang Moon. Apparently Ryan, Linc Slocum's son, is very fond of him and is trying to protect him from his father who wants to get rid of the little colt. Ryan gets Sam to help at the same time as the HARP program on River Bend starts up again. However, Ryan goes from being a sort of shy guy that is rather competitive with Jake, to being a total and absolute spoiled brat all the of the sudden. I mean, honestly he was never really unusually nice or anything in the other books, but he was polite and not nasty or anything. In this book, he is all the sudden being a manipulative jerk and thinking he can pay for anything he wants, etc. and gets Sam into some trouble through this. Because of Ryan pushing Sam into doing something not so smart (she means well, but acts on a bad idea trying to help), Hotspot and Shy Boots disappear. Shy Boots ends up being sold to a petting zoo, but Ryan rescues him with Sam's help, though he still acts like a brat. Hotspot ends up running wild with the Phantom (huge surprise there, not trying to be rude to the author, but I saw that coming a mile away). There is the brief intro of the character, Karl Mannix, who is supposed to be working for Slocum, who ends up (like all the people who work for Slocum, except the Kenworthys) being a crook who is responsible for Hotspot and Shy Boots being missing, though he is not actually caught at the end of the book.
The book itself is not bad. I love the author's writing style and descriptions, but if you are hoping to have some of the loose ends of the last book taken care, you will be a little disappointed. If you really enjoy the series (as I do), I do recommend reading it because the story is a good one and Sam develops (at least a little) into a stronger, smarter person in this book. I liked it, but it was not quite what I was hoping for. Still, for the die-hard fans who own all the books (like me), then it is a nice addition to the story line.
Book Description
Patricia Roush's girls were kidnapped more than 16 years ago and taken by their Saudi father, who they hardly knew, to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They were three and seven at the time. At Any Price is the story of her fight to get them back from a father with a documented history of severe mental illnesses and violent tendencies. In the midst of this tragic set of circumstances was a bigger problem-an ongoing, demoralizing struggle with the U.S. government and the Saudi kingdom to reunite her with her children.
At Any Price reveals the desperate and risky attempts for rescue that slip again and again from Patricia's grasp. This personal story of bravery, courage, and faith will warm and inspire readers.

Not the best out there.......2004-07-13
I have read many books on the Middle East. Some of which relate to this issue. This book is by far the worst I have ever read. It was long and boring. I had to skip many parts just to get through the book. This was such an important issue. She should have written it differently. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
This is a fascinating book, written by a woman of true grit.......2004-03-17
I am amazed at the misfortunes this valiant woman and her family have gone through. The author gives details of American greed for oil, leading to the unwillingness of our government to stand up for the rights of American citizens. And throughout the book, Ms. Roush is very honest, and shows great insight into herself, and both Saudi Arabia and America.
Pat Roush is an inspiring role model who has shown steadfastness and determination through troubles that would have crushed a lesser person.
This book is one I'm always going to keep on my bookshelves.
At Any Price.......2004-03-01
Upon finishing this totalling enralling and very well written book I am amazed at the courage, bravery and endurance this woman has had to sustain for nearly two decades. Not only has she devoted her life to freeing her innocent daughters from the totalitarian clutches of a Stalinistic regime like Saudi Arabia, had to fight her own government who obviously worked as 'Saudi agents' and compromised her and her daughters in every way but has helped so very many others in similar situations.
Ms. Roush keeps the reader on the 'edge of your seat' as she wages her Joan of Arc battles all alone amidst insurmountable government betrayal and abuse. What she has done for this issue of human rights for women and children caught inside Saudi Arabia not to mention her tireless work as a pioneer in international child abduction is truly astounding. Her work with legislation, media, the U.S. Congress and the United Nations not to mention all the personal time and expense she has given to those in need is an inspiration to me.
I found this book to be a special gift to America - to us all; it is exactly what is needed in these days of government deception and the focus on the Middle East. Her story of love, hope and faith should be on everyone's reading list.
Book written at the expense and loss of others.......2004-02-01
Too bad that Ms. Roush has only learned to walk all over those who have done all they could to help both she and her daughters over the years, and for what, monetary gain? She certainly does not take one step towards helping the thousands of parents who also have abducted children currently.
No, she steals a photograph for the cover taken by a disabled woman without her permission, compensation, or even photographic credit. No credit or name given to the other parents, online individuals and song artists for all the hard work they have contributed through the years, without even a "thank you" from this woman. Unknown little people who were trampled. Even the song writers Doug DeForest and Craig Deanto, used for her book and not mentioned by name.
Some of these people still write her and other parents, even though they are suffering with MS and other illnesses. She deletes their mail and treats them like dirt. One of the people in the photo she used without permission should not be on the cover of a book about missing children! They are a known and convicted stalker. What a nightmare this woman is. With her hatred she seems to have forgotten all of the people who lended their shoulders, money and more in her times of need.
Do not give this woman any more money, please. Go find a children's organization who really helps and give them the donation.
Shame on our government!.......2003-06-28
As an American who lived in Saudi Arabia for many years, it quickly became clear that the American Embassy would be the last place I would go should I need assistance. In Saudi Arabia, it appeared that our government representatives only cared about the feelings of the Saudi government, and couldn't have cared less about American citizens. This was very troubling to me then, and extremely upsetting to me now. Pat Roush's book reminded me again of the shameful behavior of America's state department. Her case was not a question of a marital dispute or even child custody, it was a case of kidnapping! I am incensed that former Ambassadors end up on the Saudi payroll. Frankly, I believe it should be forbidden for any former American government official to accept jobs or money from the Saudis, or from any other foreign government. Why is this not a criminal offense?
I think Pat Roush is remarkable. She has never stopped fighting for her children, against all odds. Her book is very readable, although your heart aches for her, and for her two children who never had the opportunity to grow up with their loving mother.
I just wish there was something I could do to right this situation, but only our government can make a difference. Every American should be INCENSED that our own government refuses to help these mothers--actually, the state department works AGAINST these American mothers!
I applaud Pat Roush and pray that one day, she'll have her two American daughters and their children back where they belong, in America. And, I hope that every American who has worked on behalf of the Saudis to hurt these mothers, will one day understand the terrible hurt and harm they have caused...

Engrossing story.......2007-02-20
My son is not a strong reader, dislikes reading immensely, and can usually get through only three or four pages of a book before he starts complaining to stop. However, he wouldn't put this book down - he read all 67 pages over the course of an afternoon without stopping, and then immediately began a report on the book. (He had already read a book for a book report; the report was complete, but he liked this book so much that he started over.)
Furthermore, he asked for the rest of the series! Multiple firsts; thank you, Louis Sachar.
For Humanities.......2006-02-24
The book Kidnaped at Birth, part of the Marvin Redpost series by Louis Sachar, is about a nine year old kid named Marvin Redpost. Marvin is a cool third grader. His has two best friends, Stuart is the smart one, Nick is the cool one. Stuart and Nick always fight with each other. He has one bully named Clarence that is really mean to Marvin. Marvin's teacher is Mrs. North.
In this book of the series Marvin's class has to do a current event report about a king who's son was kidnaped at birth. The prince has red hair and blue eyes just like Marvin. Marvin's family all has brown hair and brown eyes, so Marvin begins to wonder if he is the prince. The king is having blood tests in Washington, Marvin goes to get tested. Is he the prince or no find out, read the book
I recommend this book for an easy read. It is 67 pages long. I really like the book. I think it is funny and a good book. If you're looking for a long or sophisticated book this is not the book for you. I also recommend the other book in the series. The other books are just as good as this one. This book is a lot like other books of it's skill level. It is a one of a kind book.
Marvin redpost kidnapp at birth.......2005-05-07
The book is a very good book. You should read it. He thinks he is the Kings son. It loved the book because Marvin had to take lots of tasts. It was very funny!

Louis Sachar's Marvin Redpost Scores Big With 9-11 Year-Olds.......2005-02-12
Marvin is a boy with red hair and blue eyes, in a family where everyone else has brown eyes and brown hair. Marvin is a nice boy, who is nine-years-old. Nick and Stuart are his best friends. We also get to meet Marvin's brother and sister, Jacob and Linsy.
Marvin has a problem, a big problem. After careful consideration, Marvin thinks he might be Prince Robert, son of the King of Shampoon. How might this happen? Marvin comes up with several different ideas. What should he do? Marvin begins by telling his friends and teacher, who are surprised by his announcement. Marvin then tells his parents who are supportive.
Marvin must go to take a blood test to see if he is O-, just like the King of Shampoon. Along the way, both Marvin and the reader learn about the love and support of family, and how friends can respond in different ways. You'll have to read the book to learn the details and find out what happens.
This Book Is Intersting To Read!.......2003-03-26
I really like this book called Marvin Redpost: Kidnapped at Birth. Marvin is a 9 year old boy who is always getting in trouble. In this story Marvin is kidnapped by strangers. Marvin tries to get to mom and dad, who are the King and Queen. Marvin said he had the wrong family. Louis Sachar is the author. I like this book because it is sometimes funny and sometimes it has really cool pictures. Sometimes Marvin books are hard and sometimes they are easy. It is the right book for me and it is good for the other 3rd grade also.

Gripping Tale.......2007-06-29
Jan Burke's stories are well paced, with characters you care about. This tale was a nail biter that I missed a lot of sleep to finish. It was well worth it.
Keeps you on your toes.......2007-06-12
I'm a Jan Burke/Irene Kelly fan, and I readily admit to a willingness to overlook some things that are a bit of a stretch - like the fact that the benevolent founder of this incredibly wealthy and intelligent family was unaware of its dark underside. In spite of that, Ms. Burke does her usual great job of developing characters and keeping you on the edge of your seat. There is plenty of substance, a tight plot, good investigating, and lots of human frailty. Jan Burke is a great story teller.
Very Enjoyable, quick read.......2007-01-29
Kidnapped is my first Jan Burke novel, but it probably won't be my last. I found this one to be very easy to read and thorougly engrossing. The cast of characters is long & at times a bit difficult to keep up with, however I found that kept things interesting, adding to the suspense. And it must be said that Burke's Irene Kelly is at once likeable & entertaining. RECOMMENDED!
Kidnapped.......2007-01-19
I find the story line improbable. Here is this cluster of Mensa caliber folks, with numerous birth and adoptive children among them and no one questions what the Fletcher family is all about? No Dateline, Good Morning America interviews of this group of families? And these highly intelligent folks, Nelson, Dexter, Roy do not question Giles' agenda? Is grandpa Graydon so senile he does not see what is going on? I just have to keep shaking my head as I read through the book. Improbable!
Another great read by Jan Burke!.......2006-12-29
I have loved Jan Burke since the first Irene Kelly novel. I was lucky enough to meet her, and she was so, so kind to me..I'd been recently widowed, and her book caught my interest then...they still do now. This one will be complete tonight! I lost sleep last night...it was that compelling. I have laughed at parts and cried at some. I would highly recommend this book.
Book Description
How do we begin to describe our love for our children? Pamela Richardson shows us with her passionate memoir of life with and without her estranged son, Dash. From age five Dash suffered Parental Alienation Syndrome at the hands of his father. Indoctrinated to believe his mother had abandoned him, after years of monitored phone calls and impeded access eight-year-old Dash decided he didn't want to be "forced" to visit her at all; later he told her he would never see her again if she took the case to court.
But he didn't count on his indefatigable mother's fierce love. For eight more years Pamela battled Dash's father, the legal system, their psychologist, the school system, and Dash himself to try and protect her son - first from his father, then from himself. A Kidnapped Mind is a heartrending and mesmerizing story of a Canadian mother's exile from and reunion with her child, through grief and beyond, to peace.
Customer Reviews:
Great read.......2007-10-05
This book is a great read. Though the story is sad, the lesson is strong. With more and more information out in public on Alienation, perhaps society can understand this sad epidemic.
My own shattered heart............2007-03-15
This book is a must read for all those who deal with children, too many to begin listing. I stood by helplessly while my ex-husband lied and manipulated my two daughters into thinking that I had abandoned them. He would call me and taunt me with the lies that he was telling them. He too, lumped them into a category of one. I do not think that I can ever forgive the way he misused the trust that a trusting child put in him. All for pride and revenge. Too many divorces are ending up this way. I have come to see that there are generally two kinds of people in a marriage that doesn't work; the alienater and the alienated. This book shows how the justice system overlooks the helpless, innocent child. My heart cracked a little more each time Pamela was given a small victory only to have it so cruelly snatched back. PAS is so alive and so well and growing like a disease all around us. I have struggled every day for the last ten years to rebuild a relationship with my youngest daughter and while I have not given up hope that one day I will have my oldest daughter back in my life, that hope does dwindle each day. My husband and I have dealt with this pain two fold. While he is now rebuilding the relationships with his sons, his ex-wife has reaked havoc in their lives for many years. All four of our children as well as the two of us suffer from PAS. It took a lot of courage for Pamela Richardson to write this book and I applaude her. As parents, we need to make sure that all of our struggles are not in vain.
Horrifying story that should serve as a warning for others.........2006-11-02
This book is a must read for anyone going through a divorce. It Chronicles one mother's efforts to stop her ex husband from alienating her son from her and his ultimate death through suicide. She does everything she thinks is the right thing to do, but ultimately it did not work, and gives her painful hindsight advice to all parents who are going through something like this. Parental Alienation Syndrome is real, this book proves it, maybe someday the courts will notice it.
A must for any parent contemplating divorce.......2006-08-06
Pamela's case is definitely an example of the worst case scenario of what can happen when a parent manipulates the mind of a child and the judicial system enables this manipulation to continue unrestricted. Written from what had to be dozens of journals and tape recordings, it was so well written that I felt I was re-living her life. I believe it should be required reading for any parent considering divorce because it highlights the monumental impact words have on a developing mind. It should also be required reading for family law attorneys and therapists. My heart goes out to Pamela and her family.
Someone wrote my story...........2006-07-29
If you, or someone you know, has had to deal with the nightmare of Parental Alienation, then this book is a must read. It eloquently and heart breakingly tells the story of how the legal system doesn't benefit anyone who follows the rules and guidelines. It also accurately describes the emotional rollercoaster of disbelief followed by incredible joy only to be replaced by a shattered heart that an alienated parent experiences as they watch their adored and loved child(ren) fall prey to the hands of someone who hates their ex-wife more than he loves his child(ren). I cried as I read my own story in Ms. Richardson's words and only pray that my own children do not share the same fate as her innocent son.
