Book Description
Where Do You Worship?
Not everyone may frequent the church on the corner, but we each have a place of worship. For some, it’s at the office. For others, before the mirror. Still others, on the basketball court. You were created to worship! So you naturally find a place to do it. But to worship anything less than God robs both Him and us. It’s at the foot of the cross where we reel, trying to comprehend how a holy God could chase us down with kindness and redeem us from an eternity of futile gods. In this newly revised and refreshed edition of the original The Air I Breathe, you’ll find your sense of worship increasing beyond church walls or a Sunday routine. Soon all of life becomes your delighted response to God!
Everybody Worships Something
What captures your time and attention?
We are all worshipers…of something. But are we spending our lives and filling our days with what matters most?
Newly revised, The Air I Breathe will awaken you to the reality that worship is more than a service on Sunday. It’s every moment reflecting God’s glory and grace.

Customer Reviews:
Simple, Yet Profound.......2007-03-29
After hearing Louie Giglio speak recently, I was interested to see what he had to write about worship. This little book is quite simple, but Louie's insights into what true worship is all about are quite profound. One could read this entire book in one sitting, but I found that I had to keep putting it down so that I could think about the content. Louie's definition of worship is probably the best I've ever seen.
Our entire worship team is going to read the book together as a guide to help us become better "lead worshipers".
Jeffreyh.......2007-01-26
This book is very reminiscent of "Praise Habit" written by musician David Crowder, where Crowder uses very cleverly the double meaning of the outward expression of Giving GOD Praise in every possible way, and the use of the word "Habit" as the hat worn by saintly women. "Worship as a way of Life" is done here much in the same fashion. Some interesting encouragements given and some "Worship" clarifications which make this an overall pleasant & instructional worth-while book to read.
The Air I Breathe : Louie Giglio.......2006-05-25
Louie Giglio's book brings home the biblical concept that the life of a New Testament Christian is to be an ongoing act of worship, not simply the singing of a song and a prayer on Sunday morning. Giglio develops the point well, building the case that everyone worships something...the question is, what do you worship? God? God's blessings? Or Yourself?
Highly recommended to anyone trying to understand what worship is.
Once you read this book, you will live your life in a whole new way!.......2006-01-02
I usually post reviews for music, but I thought that I should write a review for this book since I loved it so much! How much? Well, so much that I read this book in about a day and a half! Once I started I couldn't put it down.
Being in the worship band for the youth group, as well as for the adult services at my church worship is a huge part of my life. About ninety percent of the music I own is worship, and when you come and think of it all music worships something, even mainstream music. I won't get involved in that because it's all in the book! Anyway, when I seen this book on worhsip I had to see what it was all about, and so should you!!
One of the most important book I've read.......2005-08-11
In full time ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ a lifetime and been to a couple of seminaries. Of all the books I've read, this is one of the most important. Simple but not simplistic - a short book that shifted my paradigm on worship. For me, it brought together major strands of thoughts that the Lord has been working in our team's hearts via readings of John Piper, Jonathan Edwards, and John Eldredge.
A hearty recommendation for all. Wish this book was translated and distributed widely around the world.

Book Description
Brenna O'Brien doesn't believe in happy endings. Not since the love of her life, Pierce McGovern, left her years ago without a word. Now, she leads a quiet life surrounded by her four matchmaking sisters, running a historic movie theater and collecting old wartime letters. But she leaves the letters unopened, preferring to imagine their possibilities rather than risk being disappointed.
Then Pierce comes back to town, shattering Brenna's hard-earned peace-and forcing her to re-examine everything, and realize that if she doesn't come to terms with the life she let slip away, she may never have the courage to go after the life she wants.

Life After Loss.......2007-06-27
A novel dealing with tragic loss, Learning to Breathe is a path to survival and triumphant life. Author, Karen White, shows the way out of tragedy and into the mainstream of feeling and being again. A perfect gift for one who has had a tragic loss, and a great gift to those who have not. Understnding those who suffer extreme tragedy, and supporting them, is not easy at all. This book gives a glimpse at both sides of the issue. You'll be glad you read it.
Karen White does it again!.......2007-05-14
I am a big fan of Karen White. I enjoyed this book even more than
her others, if that's possible. Keep these wonderful books coming, Karen.
terrific second chance at love romance .......2007-03-10
In Indianola, Louisiana, Brenna O'Brien owns and operates the Royal Majestic Theatre when her former teenage lover Pierce McGovern returns home from San Francisco. The son of a local doctor, Pierce just left Brenna behind when he deserted the town. Now he is back to place his ailing father in the assisted living complex the Village and to open a multiplex theatre that will shut down Brenna's operation.
Pierce blames his abrupt departure and his sarcastic outlook on Brenna. However, he admits to himself he still wants her; Brenna feels the same way but has decided to marry someone else. His ailing dad shows Brenna love letters that make her realize one should never settle, but risking her heart seems foolish as he rejected her once and will break her heart into a zillion pieces this time.
This is terrific second chance at love romance starring two likable protagonists who blame the other for the end of the first time together. The support cast is strong as his forgetful father and her relatives especially her introspective young nephew bring wisdom to the pair of hurting soulmates. Karen White writes a deep Bayou contemporary love story as her lead pair begins LEARNING TO BREATH in the love they share.
Harriet Klausner
Good, good story.......2007-03-09
White's placid story of five sisters that live in Indianola, Louisiana centers around the youngest sister, Brenna O'Brien, whose sisters hover around her like mayflies, trying to get her married off at thirty-three.
O'Brien's story is compelling and right away you feel like you know her, understand her situation and respect and care about her sisters just as much as she does. But setting up dates for her comes to an end when Pierce McGovern comes to town. He's her old sweetheart from high school and both had their hearts torn asunder by O'Brien's controlling father.
O'Brien, a Catholic, believes in the Saints and wears them on her neck for protection, guidance and security. She goes from St. Jude, to St. Eustace, to St. Genevieve. She tells McGovern, "Don't you think that things always happen the way they're supposed to?
That we're merely pawns in God's plan and that we always end up where we're supposed to? Maybe we didn't love each other enough and that's why we aren't together now. Maybe what happened then was easier for us to handle than if we'd gotten married and discovered too late that what we felt for each other wasn't enough?"
But McGovern and O'Brien soon learn that man's hand is sometimes involved in God's destiny.
Nathan Conley is also a new man in town, and there is a certain quality to him that McGovern and O'Brien recognize. O'Brien's love of old unopened letters from the Wars is put to the test when a box for McGovern's retired physician father is found in the old post office. Dr. McGovern asks O'Brien to read them to him. She finds herself caught in a web of love, deceit, and tragedy--a poignant love story where the future holds promise even though the past is sometimes still bigger than life filled by O'Brien's dead father, the old postmaster.
Highly recommended, especially for the descriptions of old architecture and the high drama of a mystery tale.
Armchair Interviews says: A wonderful tale of romance, sisterly love and community.

Book Description
Senior Kripalu Yoga teacher and Author of Yoga for Depression, Amy Weintraub, leads a sequence of ten Yogic breathing exercises to help calm the mind and elevate the mood, followed by a guided relaxation and meditation. Original music by Larry Redhouse with Cantrell Maryott and Phil Lipman.
Customer Reviews:
Very good primer on yoga breathing techniques.......2007-09-04
In this CD, yoga instructor Amy Weintraub, who struggled with severe depression herself, teaches various yoga breathing techniques, or pranayama. Given her own history of depression, she focuses on the ability of breathing exercises to increase prana (life force) and thus improve mood, but these practices are actually appropriate to address a wide variety of conditions, from depression and anxiety to more commonplace issues like stress and fatigue.
There are a total of 13 chapters on this CD, including an introduction, 2 meditation practices, and 10 individual breathing exercises (approximately 2-4 minutes each). The majority of the breathing techniques are performed in a simple seated position (try them while sitting in front of your computer at work!), but a few involve arm movements or even basic standing movements designed to increase energy. Whereas the greater movement is more energizing, other practices are more calming, such as alternate nostril breathing. Weintraub covers breathing techniques from several major yogic traditions, including the ujayyi pranayama common to most forms of hatha yoga and Kundalini yoga's breath of fire. Other components included in the practices are breath retention and body locks (eg, lowering the chin to the chest). The two longer meditations (9 and 14 minutes) incorporate breathing with increased awareness, intention, chanting, and relation.
Although I can't personally vouch for the effectiveness of these breathing techniques for alleviating depression, as a psychologist, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this CD to a client who was experiencing depressive or anxiety symptoms. Furthermore, yogic breath work is appropriate for anyone wanting to attain a greater sense of calmness, relaxation, and peace, and Weintraub does an excellent job of making these timeless techniques accessible to a modern audience.
Just what I needed!.......2005-05-15
The 11 tracks of breathing exercises on this CD help transform me in the morning from a fatigued and grouchy gal into my higher self in 38 minutes! Even if I have time to do just 4 exercises, I feel energized, centered, and more clear-headed. (The other 2 tracks on the CD are an introduction explaining the author's recovery from depression via yoga and a 15-minute guided relaxation.) I am not clinically depressed, so you don't have to be to benefit from this CD, but I would definitely give this to my friends who are. I've never done yoga, so I found it helpful to look at the photos of a couple of the sitting and standing postures in the author's book, Yoga for Depression, even though the verbal descriptions are good.

Book Description
Between rising gas prices, endless car payments, and countless hours spent in gridlocked traffic, do you ever get the feeling that you don't own your car, but rather your car owns you? Car-free convert Chris Balish shows why kicking car dependency could be the soundest and sanest lifestyle change you can make, and provides realistic strategies for making the leap. From saving money to building a better world, even diehard autoholics will find hundreds of reasons to set out on the (car-free) road less traveled.
Customer Reviews:
The car-free revolution.......2007-08-16
If you feel like your finances are always drained, if you are tired and stressed out all the time, or if you wonder why you have such a hard time losing weight, you owe it to yourself to check out this book. It could solve all of these problems with a single stroke.
Furthermore, if you are concerned about the environment, or are against the oil war, you absolutely MUST read this book now.
Mr. Balish's book creates a compelling case for getting rid of your auto and has plenty of inspiration to take the plunge.
He also provides tips and insights to help auto-addicts reform, reclaim their health and rediscover their communities.
Those who are already car-free will find the most useful information in later chapters which will help you think more creatively about transportation. However, this doesn't mean the book is useless to those living auto-free, rather, it provides an awful lot of talking points to encourage friends and family to become car-free. What better way to give a loved one the gift of health, wealth, and richer life?
Furthermore, if more people followed the advice Mr. Balish provides, the very landscape of our communities would be changed under the influence of public need and opinion into more vibrant, healthy, liveable places.
The most important thing you can take away from this book is this: the difference between feeling car-less and feeling car-free is 90% attitude. One reviewer opined that this book could not possibly help them be car-free in Atlanta, GA because there was not enough public transit available. This is hogwash.
Atlanta is home to a very dense public-transit system. They have 38 train stations and 120 bus routes! I live car-free in Spokane, WA, which hosts no light rail, 1 heavy rail station, and only 39 bus routes. If I can do it, any one in an urban area or metropolitan city can. You just need the right attitude, to kick your lazy car dependency habit.
If the factors are in your favor you have NO need to OWN a car........2007-08-10
What a great book. It's easy to read and it is FULL of great advice and tips from people who are getting by without the $$$$$-sapping hulk of metal. It is utterly amazing (and shocking) how much money cars take to maintain and operate ($700+ monthly car expenses vs. $50+ monthly transit fees or passes - you tell me which is the smart choice). If you have a well-paying job, and you decide to cut back, if not eliminate, the use of a vehicle you'll be laughing all the way to the bank, free to count all the extra money you'll pocket. Now it's important to stress how valuable living nearby public transportation is. If you live in a rural area, where this option isn't readily available, this book may not be for you. But for metro/urban travelers and commuters, this guide will show you the myriad ways to make it work for you. After awhile of living without a car, you may find the very notion of getting in debt for one to be abominable, if not laughable altogether! The book is well-designed and features clever, witty comic illustrations by Andy Singer to amuse and make you feel that much better about saying "HELL, NO" to owning a car.
Great book - a must read.......2007-07-15
This is a terrific book and I am giving copies of it to a bunch of my friends who always complain they don't have any money but are addicted to their new cars. I have been living car-lite in Indianapolis for about 6 months and this book has shown me how to go totally car-free. It's totally possible in Indianapolis. I think if it can be done here it can be done anywhere! This book will show you how to live normally, and more happily, without a car and save tons and tons of money. It covers everything! Almost any question you can think of about how to live car-lite or car-free is answered, and if it's not, you can email the author directly. What could be better than that? If you're in debt or broke and don't know why, read this book. If you want to help the environment, read this book. If you are out of shape or don't sleep well or have no energy, read this book. It's practical and humorous and easy to read. And it makes being car-free much easier than you might think. Get over yourself and read it!
Useful advice.......2007-06-29
Caveat- I was interviewed for this book, but was not quoted.
I've been car-less/car-free for ever, so I didn't buy the book so much for me as to lend to friends who ask me about how I manage.
There are two things in particular I like about the book. It makes a strong economic argument for driving less. Most people don't realize how much money their car costs them. Unfortunately, the book doesn't go into the hidden economic costs of the over use of cars in our society.
The book also has great advice for going car-less. Let's face it, not everyone can dump their car completely. But two car families can become one car families. People can drive less. People can drive smaller cars. You don't have to give up driving all together in order to have an impact on your wallet and the environment.
Great Book.......2007-05-14
Love the funny comics inside as well. VERY Helpful to make a case for giving up my car and a great worksheet for understanding an auto's true financial impact.

Book Description
Follow Christian singer/songwriter Tammy Trent as she tells of her beautiful love story turned tragic, still pointing to God as the source of all life and hope.
Theirs was a fairy-tale romance. Her husband, Trent, was Tammy's best friend and business manager. While vacationing in Jamaica in 2001, a routine free diving excursion in the Blue Lagoon turned drastically tragic when Trent never resurfaced. Unfortunately, the following day's events of 9/11 would create an incredible obstacle to Tammy's and her family's efforts to connect and handle these horrendous events.
Tearful prayers pleading with God to make Himself real have been answered, and God is slowly restoring Tammy's joy and hope, as she begins to sing and dance again for Him.

Learning to Breathe Again: Choosing Life and Finding Hope After a Shattering Loss.......2005-09-11
This is the best book I have read in years! I think everybody that can should read this book and not take LIFE for granted!!!
Breathing equals life and hope........2005-09-09
Tammy did a wonderful work in describing a pain that many of us face and have to go through. At times I felt like she was describing my own thoughts and feelings when I lost my only child in a car accident. While you are learning to draw breath again, our Lord and Savior truly does literally carry you through the pain until you can begin to see hope again. Life doesn't stop just because a life that means more to you than your own, has stopped. In telling her own story, Tammy helps us to tell ours.
wonderful book.......2005-06-24
As I read this book I had tears in my eyes. I am also a young widow and I have two children (the last was born 3 months after her father passed away while on a business trip in California the rental car he had been driving was hit by a semi. Being a widow I didn't care for the comments made by Deborah Reece, I thought them to be insensitive and hurtful. saying "be thankful for what you have" is just like saying the pain lessens with time. For me it hasn't. It doesn't appear to me she has read the book (kind of like the other book she "read") but for some reason she had an opinion about it. Finding true love is not hard (once upon a time I thought it was) its just about not settling for second best. We should feel sorry for Tammy as she has been through alot. Yes alot of women go through it but that doesn't make it less painful. Also the book I feel was a testamony I don't think she wrote it to make people feel sorry for her. Trent was an amazing man and I was deeply touched by the book (I lead it out alot sometimes to unbelievers one of whom I believe has come to Christ from being inspired by Tammy's book. I love the title as I too thought I couldn't breathe after Dan's crash, everytime I would take a deep breathe I felt as if I couldn't take another breath.Deborah, If you want a wonderful man just pray about it and try to show that you have a wonderful personality, I think guys like positive girls not ones who have negative things to say where they shouldn't be.
The right book just when I needed it most.......2005-06-17
I recently lost my husband suddenly, I have felt all the emotions that Tammy expressed in her book. At 24 I have lost my husband, my father (at 16) and two sisters. Last year my husband and I were expecting a little girl and he was so excited to becoming a father. We had been married for 3 years and just bought a house and another car. Unexpectedly my husband was killed a snowmobiling accident, while on a vacation with his brothers. The area that they were on was about 66 acres and he had gone out alone (this was unusual for him) and hadn't returned after three hours they became worried and went to search for him. There were alot of snowmobile tracks and they weren't sure which ones to follow, so they had formed a search party to look for him. As night fell still no sign of my wonderful husband. The next morning they found my husband who had hit a tree, he was wearing a helmet but somehow it had come off of his head upon the snowmobile hitting the tree sending him flying into the tree, he was gone taking my heart with him. I totally understand why she choose the title "Learning to breathe again: choosing life and finding hope after a shattering loss" because thats just what you have to do, when you lose your husband like that, and being so young you think you have your whole life ahead of you and you make so many plans, When you lose it all like that you feel like you have to learn how to breathe again (Im still learning to breathe again)
Tim was my life, my forever love. I know that when I had our daughter Grace Katheryne (it seemed to fit her she was God's Grace to me in such a rough time in my life and it was also the name Tim picked) I felt his presence as I gave birth to her 6 months ago (just 6 weeks after the accident) I know I will see him again in another time and Another place. As I look at her she looks more and more like her daddy each day she has his dark hair nose mouth and chin and my eyes. I know I have had some days when Ive said "I can't do this alone Lord" but then Im reminded that Im not alone God is with me each day and he will never leave me or forsake me. Tammy did such a beautiful job on this book I share it with other widows I know. No doubt it reached an unbeliever and has made them commit their lives to Christ
From the bottom of my heart thank you so much Tammy

Book Description
Water-loving people of modest means have lived aboard houseboats for centuries, and why not? Unlike expensive, cramped, and hard-to-build liveaboard cruising boats, spacious, homey houseboats are easily and economically constructed from commmon lumberyard materials. And unlike those high-priced waterfront cottages, there's no lawn to mow and often no property taxes. And if you don't like the new neighbors, just up anchor and be off.
This book tells those who would live afloat how to design and build their own place on the water. There are detailed plans and building instructions for sample houseboats; help with designing a personalized houseboat from scratch; resource-stingy contrivances for easing life aboard, including a solar oven, a windmill-powered washing machine, and innovative power-, water-, and waste-management systems; and more.

Real-world House Boats for the Rest of Us........2006-12-05
First off, its important not to get the kind of boats this author is writing about mixed up with the strange beasts seen on Lake Powell - Conder is describing homes that float rather than those that move around at (relatively) high speed.
This is the best book I've come across if you are planning on building a houseboat. Some of the reviewers below criticize it for being dated. True: the prices of materials are off. But most of the information is right on and fairly timeless (Barron's comments [below] are simply not accurate - the book was first released in 1992 - not '53 as he states - he must be writing about another book).
The book is inspirational in that it serves to remind the reader that there's more to life than a house on a quarter acre with a mortgage.
The bottom line is that this book offers all the information needed to plan, build, launch and live in a floating home.
Handmade Houseboats.......2006-11-05
This book was unhelpful and dated. I sold it to a used bookstore shortly after
I looked at it. If you are looking for information on bulding a contemporary houseboat, do
NOT purchase this book.
Good book........2005-08-16
I read this book, and in August 2005 built a floating 10x12' shed housing a 12kw generator on a 12'x20' barge floating on 34 plastic 55 gallon drums using the methods described in this book. I bought those drums for $11 a piece, and found out later they can be had for $8 or maybe even for free. Yeah, the information may be old, but it's still good. It's a way to get yourself out on the water for pennies on the dollar of what you'd have to pay to buy a used commercially built houseboat, and it'll be new and things inside it will work, and not need constant fixing. I had the barge itself built in 3 days, helped mostly by an unruley 12 year old. It could have easily been 36 x 12' and had a nice little house on it. One caveat: You won't be able to insure a craft built using this method. Even if you don't build using the barrel raft method, there's lots of other good information in the book about houseboats, and I like the Jimmy Buffetesque attitude that the author seems to have.
Historic Information.......2005-01-05
The author seems to be a true original and obviously has a wealth of experience with houseboats.
Trouble is, most of the content of the book is over 40 years old. Since the book was originally copyrighted in 1953 materials and techniques have advanced by light years.
This book might be helpful if you're building your own boat on a really tight budget and and you think you can benefit from early 50's technology, or, you like reading about older boatbuilding techniques.

Webmaster
Would you be so kind as to please delete my last review sent today. I do not want the website mentioned to be published as the boats are no longer there.
Thankyou.

Book Description
In 1989, Moe & Paige Becnel married and began the task of blending his three children and her two children into a true family. The Becnels experienced many struggles, failures, and eventually victory in the blending process. God Breathes on Blended Families is the story of their blended family coming together in fullness, and is a handbook for other blended families who are pursuing a solid, loving family. This book identifies several crucial problem areas that blended families, children of divorce and stepparents face today, and how the Becnels were able to overcome to make their family complete.
Customer Reviews:
Easy read but not much help for me.......2007-07-23
The Becnel's book was a little disappointing. I was expecting a more professional / Christian perspective on how to blend fmailies but instead most of it was personal experiences of the Becnel's. My blended family differs from theirs so much of it was not useful. There was some duplication through out the book and most of the thoughts were common sense or biblical, which I am already familiar with. There were excerpts that I deeply agreed with such as you must put your spouse first but in more than one place it said in order to truly love your spouse you must love your spouse's children. Well, that is the whole reason I am seeking literature on blended families - I struggle to love my "bonus" children while I am crazy about their father. And likewise, I do not expect my spouse to love my grown sons in order to love me. Again, the book is more an autobiography of the Becnel's.
A must Read!.......2007-06-09
This is a must read for any relationship that is moving towards marriage when both sides have children from previous marriages. It is a very valuable book. I cant say enough good about it. It is very realistic, it doesnt give false hopes or suger coat anything. It is straight forward!!
A God centered view of how to raise a blended family.......2007-04-13
This book is a tremendous tool to have in learning how to tackle virtually any of a blended family's hurdles using a faith based approach. I highly recommend it after having been through the class based on the book that the authors personally teach as well. There truly isn't anything like it! You will be blessed!
Absolute Necessity if you are a blended family or thinking of remarrying.......2007-03-27
This is an awesome source of very true and real issues in a blended family. Prior to entering into a second marriage, this book is a must read! It offers solutions to problems and situations that are inevitable and having that knowledge ahead of time will save alot of heartache and tears-
Spiritually Grounded, Practical, and Full of Wisdom...........2007-03-26
This book is a sanity saver. I received more revelations and practical insight from this book than I thought I would. Moe and Paige not only hear from God but they listen to Him and apply it. They understand the struggles a blended family faces because they have been there and succeeded in producing well-balanced children and a healthy marriage. This is a biblical approach to a blended family, not a worldly view. It is just what I was looking for. This book is a must for anyone considering becoming a blended family or for anyone who is alread in one. EXCELLENT!!!

Stop the Insanity - Eat, Breath, Move.......2000-07-25
I read this book because someone was giving it away at work. I had heard about it but thought it might be some more diet advise. This woman is now one of the most respected people in my life. I applaude Susan Powter for her accomplishments and for speaking out to the public. Now people can really see what our trusted diet and fitness industries are really doing. Memorize the script, sell as much as you can the first visit, cause you can bet they won't be back. I too had a prince in my life at one time. Not so much the cheater but the food watcher. He watched everything I ate. A half of a hamburger was enough. Now that sweet revenge is in the open and those princes of the world can find another option. Thank you Susan for your honesty and commitment to getting the truth out.
Fantastic book. This is how to change your life. The answer!.......1998-11-07
Do you want energy and better quality of life? read this book! No more starvation diets that set you up to fail, no more counting calories and more food than you ever thought possible. Did you know you can loose waight by eating at least 2000 calories????

Book Description
Honeybear and Skippy stumble into the high-intensity world of American Kennel Club dog obedience competition as the most clueless of neophytes. They share a life-defining adventure in pursuit of the "Holy Grail" of dog sports. Their odyssey is an emotional roller coaster -- a succession of cliffhangers resulting from injuries, training crises, performance curve balls and the mine field called the competition ring. Along the way there are underlying conflicts: about training philosophies and methods, with members of the lowlife fringe of the obedience community and, indeed, internal conflicts.
Customer Reviews:
Inspiring.......2007-05-07
I read this book twice. Then when my dog chewed it up I bought another copy. Lots of great information and an inspiring story. Well worth the money.
Obedience Novice.......2007-04-26
I enjoyed this book and found the authors trials and tribulations similar to my own. It was easy to read and had several helpful tips as well. Although it's more of a novel, it can help us novice folks learn some of the ins and outs of dog shows. I doubt if someone who is already a trainer, or who is show wise would find this book helpful. But..for those of us just beginning it's great!
Helpful but not insightful.......2007-04-10
I was looking for something that would give me a more practical approach to obdience training and what to expect. The book is helpful, but the story approach wasn't what I was looking for in an obedience guide. I would have preferred more details being in the obedience ring rather than the tale of the author and his dog through their preparation for obedience competition.
Remembering to Breathe is wonderful.......2007-02-20
I am a new obedience competitor with my rescue dog. I loved this book! It really tells you the nuts and bolts of training and competing. So much of what he says is exactly my experience so far (only 5 months). I especially liked his description of how his addiction to the sport resembled a user's first rush with cocaine.Dog competition really is addicting and this book will tell you all you wanted to know without being dull and academic about it.
Wonderful, couldn't put it down.......2006-05-03
Satisfies on all scores: a wealth of detail on obedience trial competitions, as a a dog story and as the saga of a winning relationship between dog and owner. Well worth the price. I'll be rereading it.

More Exercises Needed! - But Great Information.......2005-09-14
Although this book was not what I had expected it to be (i.e. a detailed book
with many pages devoted to breathing exercises e.g. paced breathing techniques etc)
I did not regret the purchase, in fact I was very impressed.
The reason why I rate this work so highly is because it offers a fresh perspective on
dealing with so called psychosomatic/psychophysiological ailments e.g. panic attacks, phobias
including headaches, migranes, hyperventilating, gasping for breath, Raynaud's condtions,
cold hands etc. The idea that irregular breathing patterns are at the heart of most disorders, although not surprising, is explained extremely well in terms of acid-base levels in the blood.
The primary topic dicussed in this book is hyperventilation. And as an Asthma sufferer I did
not think this work would be useful to me (since I usually struggle to get any air let alone overbreathe!), but I was very wrong!! This book was a great buy, because I now understand
the driving factors for my breathing difficulties from a scientific point of view.
i.e. inhale/exhale ratios, CO2 levels, warms/cold hands etc.
I only have 2 criticisms, the last chapter about Music and Breathing seemed a little out
of place and mostly irrelevent. And secondly there isnt much on breathing techniques,
the only thing that is covered is deep diaphragmatic breathing (whist in the sitting position)
- which is great if thats all you want!
5 stars for information/nutrition/theory content
2 stars for practical exercises with deep breathing
Save your money this book is a fraud.......2003-12-04
I buy many books, never before gave up reading a book just within 30 minutes of browsing through various chapters looking for substance. I'm a person who has recovered from major depression which also entailed daily anxiety attacks and hyperventilation. I overcame my affliction by sheer will power through enormous love that I felt for my family and myself. I did that through redirecting my energy to change the things that I didn't like in my life. I also accomplished that through drastic change in my diet and through daily exercise for the last ten years. I was looking for a book to teach me better breathing, because by nature I'm a person who gets to excited in reaction to anything. This is a guy who one day decided to write a book by exploiting the most obvious things. The book is made of many anecdotes and repetition of many facts most people already know. Never before did I wish to return a book and ask for a refund. This time I do. This book will not go into my library, but it will go where my daily junk mail goes, the trash. .
A good interdisciplinary book.......2002-10-01
This book is good because it emphasizes breathing techniques to attenuate stress-induced conditions (ex. Asthma, Anxiety). But again, as with most stress books, it falls short on recommending proper nutritional supplementation. Most Asthma books don't recommend any holistic/herbal remedies; they only recommend pharmaceutical drugs. A few Asthma books like these do recommend natural remedies, but these remedies are often unproven, and can be dangerous if mixed with other drugs/alcohol. I am really disappointed in all Asthma books in general, because they most often do not recommend the three most important ORTHOMOLECULAR Asthma remedies: Calcium, Magnesium, and Vitamin C. Calcium is simply there to balance magnesium and to chelate with ascorbate (vitamin C) to make calcium ascorbate. Magnesium relaxes lungs and improves air flow. Last and certainly not least, vitamin C has potent antihistamine effects via inhibiton of mast cell degranulation, and also has bronchodilator effects via inhibition of phosphodiesterase. Taking several grams
a day of vitamin C (preferably buffered calcium ascorbate), along with some magnesium may completely inhibit mild asthma, and should significantly help moderate to severe asthma, with no known drug interactions (except perhaps with Theophylline, which inhibits the same phosphodiesterase enzyme that vitamin C does). These three natural supplements also play very important roles in maintaining mental health. This information is referenced in the Allergies/Asthma chapter and Chronic Mental Illnesses Part of my book "The Failures of American Medicine", available here at Amazon...
Basic, Easy to Read Golden info, From A World Expert.......2002-05-03
There are a lot of books on breathing. This is probably the only one aimed at laymen that has been written by a world class respiratory psychophysiologist who has written numerous professional texts on various aspects of respiration.
Great book with practical info that DOES work!.......2000-03-26
After learning the author's breathing techniques, I have been able to relax more and get to the heart of my symptoms. Easy to follow and comprehend. No outer-worldly stuff here, just factual information regarding how breathing correctly will eliminate many of the stresses in your life. I highly recommend this book!
