A wonderful way to learn a great lesson!.......2007-09-28
Mr. Pusskins is your typical aloof cat. He's like most people if you think of it...doesn't realize how good he has it and takes for granted the ones that love him. He does learn what happens when he gets too big for his britches, and falls in with the wrong crowd. He finally comes to the realization of how much he was loved and how great he had it. He lucks outs in that his owner, Emily, is determined to find him and does.
My granddaughter LOVED this books and so do I. It teaches a very valuable and age-old lesson: Appreciate what you have and be good to those who love you, not take them for granted. This is a lesson that alot of people still need to learn! This book does a wonderful job doing just that.
Fun illustrations and a story with a moral.......2007-09-10
My family loved the tale of Mr Pusskins. The interesting illustrations held the attention of the 5 year old. The 3 year old thought the story was too long. Mr. Pusskin's appearance and attitude is similar to that of our persian cat; therefore, we could relate to the story. The theme is classic: the grass is always greener on the other side, but you'd be better off to appreciate what you have.
fun prodigal cat story.......2007-07-26
My four year old son liked this book so much when we checked it out of the library that we decided to buy our own copy. It's a fun story about a rebellious cat that runs away and then realizes how good he had it before so he calls up his owner (a little girl) and she takes him back.
Awesome book!.......2007-05-11
I heard this book read on NPR and thought it was cute. When we got it my daughter (7mos)loved it! It is one of her favorite books and we read it every night.
Wonderful, absolutely wonderful........2007-05-06
You can't help but fall in love with Mr. Pusskins. It's a lesson in love, and delivered with such humour as we watch him barely tolerating all the love and affection gleefully bestowed upon him by his owner Emily, who is a little girl. Mr. P is rather curmudgeonly and he sets out on his own. After initially enjoying his freedom, he finds that he didn't appreciate Emily, that life isn't very pleasant without her, and how lucky he had been to have her. Did Emily miss him? Would he find her? Would she take him back??? The suspenseful ending made me laugh and cry at the same time. (There are mountains in England and Emily knows how to drive a car.)
The drawings are wonderful. Mr. Pusskins' expression, as you can tell by the cover, is perfectly drawn.
As they said on NPR, it's a classic "cat loses girl, cat gets girl" story.

Zoey Dean's best work yet!.......2007-07-28
Zoey Dean is at it again in her novel Tall Cool One as the fourth book in the A- List series. In this book, Anna goes on vacation to Las Casitas in Mexico to check out a resort that her father might buy. Back home Poppy, Sam's stepmother is getting ready for her baby, and her best friend Dee, becomes best friends with Poppy, agrivating Sam, so Sam goes to Las Casitas. There the two girls each meet a guy, but one day after drinking a very powerful drink, mescal, the girls get drunk and lost on the beach. Then a thunderstorm comes and the girls take shelter in an abandoned mansion, where they are awaken the the Mexican police getting ready to kill them, until Jackon Sharpe comes to save the day. In the end the girls get home and Anna is upset because her dad didn't come to look for her. In my opinion this was my favorite book in the series so far. Zoey Dean really keeps her readers interested with this book, and I would definitely recommend this book and the rest of the series to teen readers.
LOVED IT!!!.......2006-07-19
I loved this book so much it teaches alot in 1 book!!!!! This book is 2 much 4 words...i just loved it!
A-List 4: Tall Cool One.......2006-07-07
This book was very interesting, but not the best. First, I thought that Danny and Anna were gonna get together but he's in the beginning, and then he just disappears. Where did he go? I was also confused because this used to be kinda like a teenage soap opera and now this book was... a mystery in mexico. Different, but I should give Zoey Dean some credit for not writing the same old thing every book. But it was a great read, even though it was kinda different. The series is still awesome, and I still read the next book. So all is well, I'll just say it wasn't as great as the others.
Finally, No Ben!.......2006-06-28
I was so happy! Finally obnixous Ben was gone! I loved when Sam and Anna got lost in the desert and found that house, but i also reallly wanted to know whos house it was. I loved how it wasn't all set in Beverly Hills and i loved all the descripiton. My favorite charcter was Lloyd because he was so werid. That drink that Sam and Anna drank that made them high is kind of like potscheen. ( Though i sure have never tried it.) I loved this book and you will too!
Then again, its.............2006-06-27
I really loved this book, its awesome! Well, its mainly about Anna who is in a chic resort in Las Casita, Mexico. Sam, who tired of her step-mother's baby preparations, sneack off to join Anna. Back in Beverly Hills, Cammie and Adam take their relationship to a whole new level. Cammie is deeply falling in love with innocent Adam. Sam's step-mother, Poppy, finds a New Age sister, Sam's best friend Dee and asks her to live with the Sharpes. Anna's parents are considerating getting back together as they concern for Anna's sister, Susan, newly out of rehab. Back in Mexico, Anna is determined to learn how to surf. Sam is totally stressed out about school, boys and family. Sam tries to find a guy that likes her for who she is and not for her father. Anna & Sam meets a handsome guy name Eduado, who happens to be Sam's prince! Anna & Sam both meets guys who like them for who they are, and when they do... A trip to a small Mexican Village leads the girls to getting lost. They're in serious trouble, but luckily a group from home, jets down try and rescue them. Sam & Anna travels in a jet back home and just when Sam thinks she will never see Eduado again, he shows up and suprises her. It really is a "happily ever after" ending. I really can't wait until I read the 5th book, The A-List series are making me want to go farther than I expected. I think this is a excellent & determined book for everyone to read!
Book Description
In the exclusive town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, where the sweetest smiles hide the darkest secrets, four pretty little liars—Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna—have been very bad girls. . . .
Spencer stole her sister's boyfriend. Aria is brokenhearted over her English teacher. Emily likes her new friend Maya . . . as much more than a friend. And Hanna's obsession with looking flawless is literally making her sick. But the most horrible secret of all is something so scandalous it could destroy their perfect little lives.
And someone named "A" is threatening to do just that.
At first they thought A was Alison, their friend who vanished three years ago . . . but then Alison turned up dead. So could A be Melissa, Spencer's ultracompetitive sister? Or Maya, who wants Emily all to herself? What about Toby, the mysterious guy who left town right after Alison went missing?
One thing's for certain: A's got the dirt to bury them all alive, and with every crumpled note, wicked IM, and vindictive text message A sends, the girls get a little closer to losing it all.

Flawless: A Pretty Little Liars Novel.......2007-09-14
This book is even more suspenseful than the first one. In Pretty Little Liars, A shows up and she's nothing but a threat. Now, in Flawless, she's carrying out her threats. Nothing is going right for the Rosewood girls. Although, they are starting to have some clue as to who A is.
But are they right?
Namebrands Everywhere.......2007-07-19
I thought the book was fantastic. Starting where "Pretty Little Liars" left off, it picks up the story of four girls, Emily, Spencer, Aria and Hanna, who share a terrible secret. The fifth girl who knew the secret, Ali, who was missing for years, has been found dead.
The girls are receiving text messages and IMs from "A.", who knows all their secrets, past and present. Does this mean Ali's actually alive? Or does someone else know what happened that fateful night?
You won't find out who A is in this book. What you will find is namebrand after namebrand, describing everything from the girls' cars to their clothes to their cigarettes. I found that to be a bit annoying, but I can get over it for a great story.
Pretty Little Liars #2 Does NOT disappoint the reader!.......2007-07-15
Pretty Little Liars #2: Flawless does NOT disappoint the reader! It is packed with more twists and turns keeping the reader guessing the identity of "A" all along the way. There are surprises that I did not anticipate.
The book is a good sequel to Pretty Little Liars #1! I can't wait for #3! This book is appropriate for high school aged girls. I do NOT recommend it for girls younger than high school due to some language and multiple references to sex.
Suspenseful New Installment In A Great Series.......2007-06-22
FLAWLESS is a great guilty-pleasure novel, full of suspense and intrigue hidden behind the perfect masks worn by the inhabitants of the perfect town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania. It is also surprisingly deep.
In this continuation of the story begun in PRETTY LITTLE LIARS (DO read PLL first), Spencer, Aria, Hanna, and Emily are still trying to keep their secrets hidden, even from each other, and discover the identity of "A." The page-turning suspense continues, and the mystery only deepens in this book.
The four girls are realistic enough characters, though they don't exactly jump off the page. The writing itself is not breathtaking, but not bad enough to distract from the heart-pounding suspense. In short, the actual writing of this book is mediocre, but the suspense is enough to keep readers hooked.
Book Two is at least as much fun as Book One.

Zoey Keeps It Going!.......2007-08-17
Zoey Dean keeps her story of the A- list going in American Beauty. In this book, the seniors on the A-list are graduating and that means hanging out with friends, and going to parties. Anna is in a car crash and her dad sends his new intern Caine to come help her. Anna becomes good friends with Caine. Also things with Ben aren't doing that well, and they get into a fight at a party. Cammie tries to find out more about her moms death and Sam helps her by meeting up with her mom from North Carolina. Sam finally gets Eduardo back and they agree never to kiss anyone again, other than those two. Everyone goes to a girl from another school, Stefanie, and they set her up to get revenge, for what she said about Sam in the past. In the end they graduate and Anna chooses to hang out with Caine instead of Ben. Zoey really keeps her readers interested in this series.
So good.......2007-06-08
This is one of the best of the A-list novels. These books are so easy to relate to, and since I live in LA, I know every location that is talked about in the novel.
Awesome!!.......2006-12-04
I loved this book! I read it in two days(and I'm a slow-reader)! I thought it was great, but somehow I don't like what happens to Anna and Ben. They weren't together while he was with Blythe, his mistake was not to tell her in the first place... but we'll see what happens to them in the next book! But it doesn't come out until April... we will have to wait a long time, but I hope it's worth it!!
A-List 7: American Beauty.......2006-11-05
So... Cammie and Sam try to find out whether her father really killed her mother, Anna thinks something is wrong with Ben and happens to be absolutely right, and Jack and Dee have a great relationship... or so it seems.
The only reason I gave it four stars was because it seemed kind of... I don't know... lacking. I usually have fun seeing what kind of reckless stuff the people do but this book didn't really have much in the wild and reckless department. It was kind of serious, more serious than the others.
The A-list, the guiltiest of guilty pleasures!!.......2006-10-16
I have read the A-list from the beginning and there is one main reason why it became one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Two Words: Sam Sharpe. This is my favorite character, I just love they way she developed, her approach to things, her cynicism that hides a very emotionally troubled young woman. She is the less cliched of all the four main characters (Anna...classy, prim and proper Hampton girl, yawn..., Cammie the uberbitch always on the verge of redeeming herself and Dee the real LosAngelino character, with all her ingenuity, incense sticks and sojourns in the loony bin). These stories, developments and characters are totally unreal, but hey people, this is FICTION! And meant to be FUN! The characters won't cover their heads in ashes, donate their money to the poor and join Mother Teresa's nuns...It is so exaggerated that it is fascinating for a European like yours truly...
Only CAVEAT: I would actually NOT recommend this book to teens, because many of them could mistake it for reality, or set their goals way over the top.

"I had no illusions about love... It came, it went, it left casualties or it didn't. People weren't meant to be together forever, regardless of what the songs say." Remy doesn't believe in love. And why should she? Her romance novelist mother is working on her fifth marriage, and her father, a '70s hippie singer, left her with only a one-hit wonder song to remember him by. Every time Remy hears "This Lullaby," it feels like "a bruise that never quite healed right." "Wherever you may go / I will let you down / But this lullaby plays on..." Never without a boyfriend, Remy is a compulsive dater, but before a guy can go all "Ken" on her (as in "ultra boyfriend behavior") she cuts him off, without ever getting close or getting hurt. That's why she's stunned when klutzy, quirky, alterna-band boy Dexter inserts himself into her life and refuses to leave. Remy's been accepted to Stanford, and she plans on having her usual summer fling before tying up the loose ends of her pre-college life and heading for the coast. Except Dexter's not following Remy's tried-and-true rules of break-up protocol. And for the first time, Remy's questioning whether or not she wants him to.
Author Sarah Dessen's ability to write novels that are both crowd pleasers and literary masterpieces of YA fiction is showcased beautifully in This Lullaby. Subtle yet completely absorbing, Lullaby is peopled with breathtakingly believable, three-dimensional characters, the very best of which is the bitter, broken Remy herself. An original love story about learning to love yourself first. (Ages 12 and older) --Jennifer Hubert
Book Description
When it comes to relationships, Remy doesn't mess around. After all, she's learned all there is to know from her mother, who's currently working on husband number five. But there's something about Dexter that seems to defy all of Remy's rules. He certainly doesn't seem like Mr. Right. For some reason, however, Remy just can't seem to shake him. Could it be that Remy's starting to understand what those love songs are all about? From acclaimed author Sarah Dessen, this is a captivating novel about a tough-as-nails girl and the unexpectedly charming boy who's determined to soften her up.

Whooh Red Alert.......2007-10-07
Well I would just say I got through to chapter 6 and then I had to call it quits. This book has a ton of foul language. Not to mention illegal activities like sneaking into clubs with fake ID's, having major drinking problems, smoking (thats not illegal but I think it's wrong). Not to mention a lot of sleeping around with people and at times I thought this book was going to have a breakthrough but then here we go again and the plot is boring. If you want a good appropriate book I strongly suggest not buying.
Stalked by the village idiot.......2007-09-22
I threw this book in the trash once, when I was about 1/3 way through. Then later fished it out.
Apparently lots of readers loved Dexter. I hated him until about the end of the book. I found it scary and infuriating that this village idiot was stalking Remy and she didn't seem to be able to stop him.
Eventually, I realized that she was quite capable of getting a restraining order and then having him arrested when, inevitably, the moron violated it. In fact, she was quite capable of giving him "the speech" in a way that even he would understand.
So, obviously some part of her realized that she needed him, just as he desperately needed her.
"Hate Spinnerbate!".......2007-08-15
But I LOVE Dexter. This is my favorite Dessen book to date. Is it possible NOT to fall in love with Dexter? I laughed so many times out loud at the things he did or said. People on the metrolink train were giving me weird looks like I was off my meds. But back to Dexter: He was my highlight, along with the fact that I could really relate to Remy. People who don't get this book missed out on something spectacular. OKay, so maybe not EVERYTHING in Sarah Dessen's books are 100% believable, but isn't that the point? To escape into a fantasy world where a character like Dexter really exists, with his bold, honorable, humble and graceless persona? Where a wild heart like Remy's could be tempted to fall in love? It's the twists and turns in life and in this book that (believable or not) can and do happen, and make this sometimes dull and monotonous life I myself lead all that much more to look forward to. A MUST READ for sure for true Sarah Dessen fans! Rock on, Truth Squad!
Dexter was the best part.......2007-07-08
Dexter is a fantastic character. He leapt off the page and made me laugh out loud more than once. I absolutely loved him, and he's the reason for the second star.
Unfortunately, this was the only good part of the book. The storyline was predictable, and the language was confusing. I had to re-read several paragraphs to figure out what the author was trying to say, and a few times I never did figure it out.
Aside from Dexter and Remy, the characters seemed flat and lifeless. The mom had some character development, but it was predictable and not very well done. This story could have been great, but fizzled instead. Very disappointing.
Awesome!.......2007-07-06
Oooh some of these reviews are kinda harsh. Personally, I've never read a better romance novel in my entire life. I normally avoid romances like the plague but after reading this book (something my friend convinced me to do) I ended up falling in love with not only the story but the characters as well. I absolutely love Dexter and I think Remy has so many different layers, she can't help but be interesting. This is one of those books I'm going to continue reading over and over for a very long time. IT'S AWESOME!!!

The John Wooden Pyramid of Success.......2007-05-14
Basketball fan or not, this is a good read. Even better if you are. John Wooden's Pyramid is a pattern for successful living with tools that provide the means & inspiration to guide you to a more worthwhile and fulfilling life. Teamwork is the foundation for success in any team effort, on or off the court. This would be a great gift for teenagers invloved in sports. Coach Wooden's teams proved you don't have to be a "glory hound" to gain recognition.
Excellent and No Typos!.......2004-06-08
I think Mr. Willingham is reviewing the first edition of this book. I have seen a copy of that and there are many typos in that edition. I should know as I am a professional proofreader. But I have a copy of the second edition, the one that has the cover shown on this page, and I have found very, very few typos, and most of those small grammar things that you might find in any book. Considering this book is well over 400 pages I think it is presented very well. I do agree with Mr. Willingham that this book gives a lot of new information about the people around Coach during the Wooden Era. All in all, I find it an excellent read and a must for any Wooden follower.
Informative, but what's the deal with the typos and errors ?.......2004-06-03
This book has a great deal of information about John Wooden, UCLA basketball, and many of the people who were involved with Coach Wooden during the "Wooden Era". However, this book is also FULL of typographical errors, grammar problems, and such. While it does not severly impact the content, it is frustrating and irritating for such a product that has so much potential.
The John Wooden Pyramid of Success.......2004-04-21
I am a licensed psychotherapist practicing in San Francisco for the past twenty years. I am always looking for books that give people a healthy and motivational structure for living life.
John Wooden's Pyramid of Success is one of those books that I recommend to my clients. This book was recommended to me and although I did not know much about John Wooden, I was very inspired by his life and his work. His ability to educate, and help others build character, gain wisdom and expand their capacity to live a life of integrity, service and love is remarkable.
Most people come into therapy because there is some area of their life that they are dissatisfied with. Therapy is about bringing into consciousness deeper emotional truths that can keep us from achieving a truly satisfying and meaningful life.
The Pyramid clearly defines the actions we are taking and the decisions we are making when we are living life to the fullest. John Wooden is an important role model and teacher for us all. This book is an excellent resource for living on purpose and for reaching the upper limits of what is available to us all in life.
Great Book on Wooden!.......2004-02-13
This is by far the most comprehensive book on Wooden yet. About half the book is interviews with former Wooden players, with Wooden's family, his friends, and even his former teachers. These interviews prove Wooden truly walks what he talks. The biography section is as in-depth as anything I've seen on Wooden and the amount of new information revealed is daunting. If you are a Wooden fan, or want to learn more about the former UCLA coach, this is the book for you.

Dramatic Beach Read.......2007-06-18
Summer Boys by Hailey Abbott is about three girls and one dramatic summer that will change their lives forever. Jamie, Ella, and Beth Tuttle are cousins who have spent every summer at Pebble Beach since they were children. Jamie found a boyfriend, last summer, but now she feels like he is holding something back. Ella has found a boyfriend for the summer, which would be great if he wan't involved with her sister. Beth has always loved George as a friend, but now she starts to realize how cute he looks.
Summer Boys is a realistic teen dramam that sucks you in from the very first page. The alternating third-person chapters let you see every event in gripping detail. Hailey Abbott does an amazing job showing each girl's story on the same summer timeline, and making events intertwine within each other's stories stories. This book is great for anyone looking for an engaging beach read, while waiting for their summer romance to begin.

My favorite character, Beth, is going to the beach with her best friend George and is having a blast until he meets another girl. Will Beth discover she might be jealous of George, her best friend? This book is filled with drama, romance, and even gives you the feel of being at the beach. This book is for anyone who loves summer, the beach, and of course boys. There are 3 sequels to this book, Next Summer, After Summer, and Last Summer, all by Hailey Abbott. If you like the first book, you'll love the next 3. I mean, who wouldn't have a blast at a beach all summer with bonfires, beach parties, and boys - everywhere.

I bought this book at first beacause I wanted to buy books that had to deal with summer since summer will soon be here. I started reading it and I got hooked to it right away. The book is about three girls and their love lives during summer vacation. It was such a good book and I loved the way she described situations. It was really cute and by far one of the best books I have read.
FAB-U-LOUS!!!!.......2007-04-06
This is a GREAT book! It's about 3 cousins that all have love problems. Beth starts to find out that she likes her best friend George more then a friend. Jamie is head over heals for her boyfriend Ethan who she meet last summer but he seems to be pushing her away. Ella meets a boy named Peter who likes her sister Kelsi more then Ella who is feeling unsure of herself now. Each story for every girl ends in a well writen. Haily Abbourt starts out a series in an excellent way leaving you wanting more of the Tuttle girls.

Another Great Chicken Soup!.......2007-03-09
I love the Chicken Soup series and this book didn't disappoint! I bought 5 of them for Christmas. Four to give as gifts and one for myself. All of my friends loved it too. Would definitley recommend!
My emotional Rollercoaster.......2006-05-22
The stories in Chicken Soup for the Girlfriends Soul took me on a very high and low emotional rollercoaster. The stories made me smile and some made me sad. I didn't particullarily like this book because I think that it was directed to an older audience. I am 15 years old, and some of the stories were about life-long friendships. I couldn't seem to relate to many of the stories. Overall, this book wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't the worst book I have ever read.
I laughed, I cried.......2005-08-02
As with all the Chicken Soup books, I was able to relate to a lot of the stories and I really enjoyed reading the book. I'm giving it to my best friend who is leaving for college and I think she will really enjoy it also.

only east coast will get anything out of this book.......2007-10-04
I will never forget the time I was in Boston and helped a blind man board a subway train. The doors nearly closed right on him! A lady nearby was truly amazed that someone would be so nice as to help a stranger having difficulty.
This book is for those who rarely experience common courtesy and have no clue as to how to behave in a civil manner.
If you get much out of this book, it's time for some drastic action!
I think the author needs to move to a more friendly environment!
The narration may drive you insane.......2007-09-14
This review is specific to the Audio CD version of the book.
The material is worthwhile, though not very original. The tips serve as good reminders of communication tools most of us have heard before. Too bad the narration makes me want to tear my eyeballs out. The narrator (author) both over-enunciates and over-dramatizes to a disturbing degree (think of an NPR host gone wild). I highly recommend the print version over the audio cd!
Fantastic book!.......2007-08-18
Another great book which I love and highly recommend - How to be a Super Hot Woman: 339 Tips to Make Every Man Fall in Love with You and Every Woman Envy You
10 Stars! I am making new friends and deepening the relationships I have.......2007-07-04
I read Leil Lowndes's "Good-bye to Shy" and it worked like magic to get me over my shyness. After reading that book, I wanted more. I thought "How to Be a People Magnet" was the next logical step. It was! I am so glad I read this book.
There are three things that I especially like about it.
One is that iIt progresses logically. It starts with 1) making strangers like you instantly and how to "win their hearts in ten words or less." Then 2) Things you can do to turn a stranger into a friend. 3) A section on how a man can win with woman and the opposite. 4) How to build a whole network of friends. 5) How to give depth to a new or existing friendship, or reawaken an old one.
Second, it is based on truth, all backed up by studies on "interpersonal attraction.." For instance, "being popular is not the same thing as people really liking you." And "You don't just mke friends, you earn them by the benefits you bring to a relationship like intelligence, wit, or kindness."
A part that was especially helpful to me because of my old shyness was "how to work a party like a politician works a room." Also the book tells "how to create chemistry" with someone.
Third, "How to Be a People Magnet" is not just general advice. It is broken up into 55 concrete steps or "clauses" you sign off on. I did all of them, or at least most of them, and I notice a BIG difference in how new people are drawn to me and how my current friends seem to be warming to me even more.
I highly reccomend this book if you want to make more friends and deepen the relationships you have.
Bravo, Leil. I can't wait to read your other books.
A unique and wonderful guide to making friends, quickly and for life. .......2007-01-29
This is NOT your average book with trite advice on "how to make friends" It is far superior in every way. The author discusses the extreme importance of friendship. (She was inspired to write this book when two of her friends saved her life.)
There is solid evedience for everything she says. (She references 77 sociological 77 which are annotated in the back of the book.) And third, like all Leil Lownds' books, they are so much fun to read. Stories about some of her "friends" had me ROFL.
I love the author's concept of "you don't just make friends, you EARN them" by being a person of value yourself. She calls it The First Commandment of Friendship: "You must have something in order to receive." In other words, you must develop likeable and valuable qualities yourself so you can be an important friend to others. Not only does she talk about how to make friends quickly and make them grow, but how to nurture and enrich the ones you have.
The author explores how different women's friendships are from men's, and whether a man and a woman can truly have a "platonic" friendship and, how to do it, if you want to turn a friend into a lover.
One of my favorite concepts is her exploration of the "in" crowd and that "being popular does not mean being liked." This too is based on studies. I could go on and on about her insights on friendship that I've never read anywhere else.
I tried one of Leil's techniques which is to dig up a very old friend and spend a few hours with them. She writes, "Whether the friendship continues (or you relize why it ended,") you will both receive a priceless gift. Each of you will come away with a fresh and profound new sense of self." I did.
I will be forever grateful to the author for the awareness of the importance of friends - how to make them quickly, shed the superficial ones, and keep the ones you want for a lifetime.

Book Description
Three girls with three agendas and the ultimate destination: the Hamptons.
Summer in the city? Way overrated. Everybody who's anybody in New York City summers in the Hamptons. Mara, Eliza, and Jacqui all want a piece of the action, all for different reasons.
So the girls answer a classified ad to become au pairs. How bad can it be, watching a couple of kids on the beach all day? They've got the swank address, the sweet ride, and an all-access pass to the hottest social scene on the East Coast. It's shaping up to be the summer of their lives.

Just as good as the listed books!!!!!.......2006-11-22
"The au pairs" was a good book that I read after the "Gossip Girls" and the "A-list" series. It amazing how the author takes three very different and diverse girls and put them under the same roof working for the same person. It's a friendship waiting to happen even though at first they had their differences: how Jacqui and Eliza love to party and Mara is more of a home body. This book is filled with laughter, love, parties, friendship. The way the book is laid out it makes you want to continue reading it. Melissa de la Cruz did an amazing job on writing this book so I read the other ones in the series and they were just as good as the first so I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.
Luv ya much

fabulous beach read.......2006-08-13
For a chance at $10, 000 and the best parties of the summer, three girls, Mara, Eliza, and Jacqui, sign up to be au pairs at a wealthy family's house. Mara is there to escape her small-town life. Eliza is there in hopes to reclaim her It Girl status she lost with her father's bankruptcy. Jacqui is there to find a guy she loved and lost. Once there, though, none of their plans go as followed, and they leave changed, for the better. This book was very realistic, and I liked it a lot. It has slightly more substance than many other beach reads, and overall is a great novel.
Excellent.......2006-07-21
This book is a great read that goes by fast. I had a really hard time putting it down. The character differences are great and it made me want to continue. I found it to be fast paced and I was hooked from the get go. No I am not a young adult, but I do enjoy quick light reading and that's exactly what it was. I give it five stars with a smile.
shallow and trite.......2006-06-12
I didn't expect a lot out of this book (I mean, look at the cover), so I guess it really didn't disappoint. I just found it annoying. Basically, everyone in the book is "cool" because they wear the "right" clothes, know the "right" people, smoke and do drugs and seem to have limitless access to alcohol regardless of how underage they are. Even though the author tries to separate the three nannies from the rest of the frivolity, they don't prove to be much different. They all have shallow relationships yet seem to be shocked when things go awry (hello! like we can't tell that a relationship based on nothing more than looks and accessibity isn't meant to last, despite the fact that they're all only 16!).
And these girls are NOT nannies. The author paints a rediculous portrait of au pairs in which they do nothing, are hardly ever around and yet the kids always fall in line. The nannies refer to the kids as monsters and brats, but the kids are practically angelic when you consider that they never get in any trouble even though that have almost no supervision. Reality check, please.
If all you're looking for is a light, fluffy read with no wit or depth and no redeemable qualities, perhaps this is the book you're searching for. Cruz doesn't even portray the cliched snobbishness in a clever way; the writing and plot are completely expected and droll. But if you want to read about relationships as told by someone who can actually write well, check out Sarah Dessen or Deb Caletti. This book is as bad, if not worse, than the gossip girl series. Not worth the time of anyone even slightly intellectual.
The Au Pairs-Intiguing!.......2006-04-10
The Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz is an exhilarating book about three teens who think being a Summer Au Pair in the Hamptons will be filled with partying, hot guys, and expensive, designer clothes. What they don't know is that the au pairs that came before them were fired for this reason. Can they survive a summer of
working all day and partying all night? And will they all find what they're looking for, love? With a little bit of romance and adventure, this book will leave you on the seat of your chair.
Written in second person, this book gives you a great insight of the Hamptons; rich people flaunting their money, glamorous parties, gigantic houses, and plenty of designer clothes, but behind the text, it shows that the Hamptons isn't as great as it sounds. Broken hearts, working with hangovers, and an abundance of mistrust within housemates construct the girls to change their minds about the Hamptons.
In the book, Mara, a country girl, describes the view of a big party:
"We drove to an imposing modern mansion on Settler's Landing with P.Diddy's initials carved into wrought iron gates. Several billowing white tents were set up near the entrance to facilitate the guest check-in. Eliza told me that she'd heard the entire city of East Hampton had to be insured for up to five million dollars against any incident related to the party and that Puffy had paid for an eleven-thousand-square-foot tent."
I thought this book was really intriguing because it gives a great description of the Hamptons for those who have never seen something so big and glamorous. I also really liked it because of all the drama from one girl to the next. If you liked Pop Princess by Rachel Cohn, you might like this because it shares related stereotypical, big town, drama.
