5 out of 5 stars Everything it should be.......2007-09-27

I was so happy to discover Carrie V and her Kitty - thanks to an Amazon recommendation, whoever wrote that program is a genius ... so I can fill my paranormal mystery shelf with something a little more inventive than Anita Blake has turned out to be. (If anyone wants a full set of AB in hardcover, I dropped them off at the West L.A. Goodwill a couple of weeks ago.) Kitty has everything I want: suspense, humor, realistic human drama, adventure and action, a little romance, and interesting, evolving characters. Can't wait for the next one.

This is definitley my favorite book in the series so far...they just keep getting better! Can't wait for the next one Kitty and the Silver Bullet

5 out of 5 stars Love the Kitty universe!.......2007-08-16

This was a fast, fun read that made me stay up well past my bedtime to finish. All the Kitty books are good-I just finished th series and really recommend it. All my favorite writers of the moment (Patricia Briggs, Karen Chance, Ilona Andrews and now Carrie Vaughn) are shaking up the fantasy genre with some really new, fun ideas. If you love fantasy but want something a little different, this is a good place to start.

4 out of 5 stars Student becomes teacher.......2007-07-18

During the 1990s there was a slew of books and movies with vampires as central characters being put out, then there was a suttle switch and werewolves started becoming the focus of the lead characters. Now we're getting more and more books put out that are dealing with lycanthropes. It's interesting to see these changes, switching the wolf from villian to hero.

Life isn't easy being a werewolf, let alone one named Kitty. Kitty Norville returns after being outed on camera and testifying at the senate hearings regarding the existance of the paranormal. In this thrid novel, she retreats to a cabin in a small town in Colorado to regroup and begin writing her memoirs. Someone doesn't like having an in-residence werewolf and begins leaving gutted rabbits on her doorstep. To make matters more complicate, werewolf hunter Cormac shows up, toting Kitty's lawyer/friend Ben O'Farrell who has himself been attacked by a werewolf. Kitty must try to convince Ben life is still worth living, inadvertently teaching herself the same lesson. To top things off, a skinwalker shows up and Cormac is arrested. Kitty and Ben must investigate to free Cormac but all roads lead to nowhere.

This third novel is entrancing and I found myself reading it much faster than the last book. I've always had the feeling that Carrie Vaughn is seemingly projecting herself into the Kitty character, even the cover photos look a lot like Vaughn. What makes matters more confusing is I'm also reading Patricia Briggs' Mercedes books. Briggs and Vaughn are putting the books out at the same time and it's interesting seeing the similarities and differences between the two authors. Overall, enjoyable book and very quick to read, just lacks a bit in the action but the Kitty books aren't necessarily about the action.

5 out of 5 stars Easily as good as the first two (and maybe better).......2007-07-10

The third book in this series follows the first two perfectly. More character development for all three main characters in the story.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-09-10

Although not what I would call "easy reading" by any stretch of the imagination, this book was extremely detailed and broke down each DSM into smaller fragments. It was a great piece to add to my courses in MH DSM and went into much greater detail than my university textbooks! My professor at the time recommended a similar book which I managed to misplace. Fortunately this one was recommended to me and is even better.

Excellent in every regard and a must-have for any mental health practitioner.

5 out of 5 stars First class resource on the little understood world of PD. .......2005-06-08

Theodore Milon's work on personality disorder's is a tour de force of the little understood world of "personality disorders in modern life."

This is an outstanding book, both as a text for the advanced master's level student, or as a stand-alone reference for the clinician looking to delve deeper into this mysterious world.

Dr. Milon cogently and meticulously dissects each disorder and provides case vignettes to aid the reader in grasping each entity for what it is, if that is possible.

Highly recommended. Encyclopedic in scope. Scholarly in its depth. 5+ stars.

5 out of 5 stars An absolutely wonderful book on personality........2005-04-11

As an "advanced layman" interested in personality, I can fully endorse all that has been said by others about this book. It's not often that you find a book intended as a textbook that's....hard to put down, but this book certainly qualifies.

One rather missleading aspect of the title is its' implication that the book is only about the more pathological aspects of personality, and although the book is indeed organized along the lines of the DSM defined personality disorders, Millon makes an ongoing point within every section that the severity of each of the disorders exists along a continum, ranging from "normal" to "extream".

Those within the "normal" range on each disorder illustrate aspects of personality that are common to almost every one of us, and as such, the book provides equally comprehensive insights into normal aspects of personality as well.

If you are truely interested in personality in it's full range of variation, I would not allow yourself to be detered by the books' price. Millon is a stunning intelect, and I believe you will come away from this quite readable volume with the same enthusiastic response as others who have reviewed it.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Personality Textbook.......2005-03-30

For those looking for the perfect Masters level textbook on Personality this is the one. Throughout the entire book, the author frames the discussion from the various therapeutic perspective: cognitive, biologic, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and evolutionary-neurodevelopmental. They cover functional and structural domains and contrast each personality type with related personality structures. They also break each personality disorder and trait into variations. Their incorporation of personality trait with disorder would allow instructors of personality to incorporate the various testing within the personality disorder framework. The book is very weak on therapy strategies and techniques for each disorder, but that is not why one would want the book. A terrific textbook on personality disorder.

5 out of 5 stars The encyclopedia of personality disorders.......2003-06-09

Authoritative, erudite, comprehensive and indispensable. It is by far the single best tome about personality disorders. It draws on the authors' rich clinical experience, panoramic acquaintance with schools of psychology, innovative taxonomy, and comparative ability. Though culturally-biased, it is still applicable to all societies and all times. Don't be deterred by the stiff price - it is worth every cent. 3 out of 5 stars Tempting SEALS novella and some filler.......2007-07-30

I bought this for the Tempting SEALs continuation. Although it was just a novella, I didn't want to miss reading Maggie's story. Lora Leigh continues to heat up the pages even with a much shorter story than Dangerous Games. The rest of the short stories were just some filler material which really didn't do much for me.

5 out of 5 stars "For Maggie's Sake" by Lora Leigh.......2007-07-23

The third Tempting SEALs is a novella, "For Maggie's Sake". Maggie, a new widow who was introduced at the end of "Dangerous Games" (Tempting SEALs #2), had once dated Joe Merino, the top DEA agent who led Morganna's team in "Dangerous Games". After months of recently divorced Joe telling Maggie that he would never commit to or love a woman again, she finally took him seriously when he showed up at a society event she was covering for her newspaper with a stacked blonde female stranger on his arm. Maggie hadn't even known he was planning on attending. She got the message, and removed herself completely from his life -- even though he wasn't done with her yet. But she stood fast, trying to protect her broken heart, and six months later she got married, even though she doubted the wisdom of that step when her fiance told her a couple of days before the wedding that Joe Merino was his best friend. She was very lonely, though, and she felt she could come to love the nice man her fiance had portrayed himself as, so she went through with it.

It was the biggest mistake she ever made. She couldn't even leave her husband; she found that out three months into the marriage when she tried to and discovered he had damaging information about her father from his youthful years, and her husband was more than willing to blackmail her into staying with him. Now, two years later, with her husband dead and proven to be a U.S. traitor, she found herself under suspicion of being her husband's accessory -- because he had left journals behind saying that she was. Unfortunately, not only was Maggie completely innocent of all the suspicions being held against her, she also discovered, after a week in Joe's company in a remote safe house, that not only did she still love Joe, but she had never stopped. And Joe was one of the agents who thought she was lying about her lack of involvement with her husband's treacherous activities. To put the icing on the cake, the cartel to whom her husband had been feeding information thought she was lying, too...and they desperately wanted to get their unfriendly hands on her.

Note: Although, as usual, this is a sexually explicit Lora Leigh story, Joe is not into BSDM, unlike Clint in Tempting SEALs #2.

Check out the others in the Tempting SEALs series: The novella "Reno's Chance" in Honk If You Love Real Men (Tempting SEALs, Book 1); the novel Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs, Book 2) and the novel Hidden Agendas (Tempting SEALs, Book 4).

4 out of 5 stars Real Men Do It Better.......2007-07-05

Loved this and I really liked the lora leigh book. She writes some very steamy scences.

5 out of 5 stars Four Wonderful Stories by four great Authors!.......2007-05-12

All four of these stories are wonderful. I bought the book because of Lora Leigh. Love the Tempting Seals Stories, Love her books. The other 3 stories were an added bonus, all great.

4 out of 5 stars four fun lighthearted contemporary romances .......2007-02-11

"His Body Electric" by Carrie Alexander. The storm shut down Karen's phone sex business Cock-A-Doodle. It also brought Tomzak to her farmhouse seeking shelter. The attraction is electric.

"Bed and Breakfast" by Susan Donovan. High strung corporate executive Kate left Los Angeles for a spiritual retreat in the New Mexico desert. However, she arrives just before a torrent occurs only to find the Windwalker Lodge closed for renovation. Jorey allows her to stay, but he soon teaches her more on the impact of the spirit of the flesh has on the mind.

"For Maggie's Sake" by Lora Leigh. Joe believes the woman he loved and lost two years ago is involved with a dangerous drug lord who has killed some Navy SEALs. He reassesses his belief when his Maggie is abducted.

"Siren's Call" by Lori Wilde. When her grandfather broke his hip, Annie comes home to St. Augustine to keep his dive shop afloat. As she expects to return to Manhattan, diving instructor Duncan enters the shop. He knows he made the mistake of his life when he decided he was not good enough for his beloved Annie and ended their fling. Now he has a second chance to rectify his error.

These are four fun lighthearted contemporary romances starring reasonably developed likable protagonists.

5 out of 5 stars yummm.......2007-07-29

I thought this book was awesome! Not for the faint of heart, these stories are HOT HOT HOT!

5 out of 5 stars Tempting SEALs #1 by Lora Leigh (only).......2007-07-23

The first Tempting SEALs is the novella "Reno's Chance", and is really quite a wonderful story of a beautifully drawn alpha-alpha U.S. Navy SEAL, Reno, who is attempting to claim his woman, Raven, a woman he's known all her life, but a wary woman who observed her parents' unhappy marriage. Dad was a SEAL (like Reno) and Mom hated it, leading to destructive arguments each time he went out on a mission, missions that grew longer and more frequent as time went by. One day he didn't return -- alive, anyway, and her Mom spiralled into a deep depression. Raven was terrified of losing Reno to death, and her reaction to that terror was to push Reno away; she needed to protect herself. However, Reno had never lost a campaign yet...

Note to those who have read "Dangerous Games" but not yet read "Reno's Chance": Like all Lora Leigh stories, this one is very sexy, and Reno is most definitely an alpha male and is quite dominating in the bedroom. However, Reno, unlike Clint in "Dangerous Games", is not a Dominant, so if BSDM is not your cup of tea, you can safely read this story.

The second Tempting SEALs is Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs, Book 2); the third is a novella in Real Men Do It Better (Tempting SEALs, Book 3); and the fourth is Hidden Agendas (Tempting SEALs, Book 4).

For Estrella Ianesque, the daily bus ride to work has been improved ever since road construction began along the route. There's one working, covered daily in dust, sweat, and pure male that's driving Estrella's hormones through the roof. When her boss, Eve, has to go out of town for a week, she leaves her spiffy little red Miata convertible in Estrella's care-and not a moment too soon. She plans on using that car to get some up close and personal views of her jack-hammer using construction man, and showing off her assets in the process.

When Jesse "Drum" Drummond offers to help out the damsel in distress with the stalled Miata, it doesn't take long to realize a few loosened wires caused Estrella's car to stall. Calling her on her ruse, he's surprised that she admits it-then boldly waits for him to make a move. But Jesse doesn't take her up on her offer, not there at the construction site, but later in the evening he finds that he can't stay away from the sexy and seductive Estrella.

Soon passions are soaring and inhibitions are lowered for this straight-laced woman who just once wants to do something naughty, and the man who had been determined to stay on the straight and narrow.

Trent 's willing to help her overcome her sexual problems, but he's not at all sure that a few nights in Bree's bed is ever going to be enough.

As sparks fly, trust is renewed, and healing begins, this is a short story you're not soon to forget.

HAVE MERCY by Susan Donovan

Winifred Mackland is sure she's on her way to her own personal doom. A screenwriter who is half-way done with her latest masterpiece, which just so happens to be a piece of crap, Win has no idea how to get the juices flowing on this last installment of her trilogy. Her agent, Artie Jacobs, has promised the producers that Win will have the screenplay finished in four short weeks, and to insure that she does, he sends her off to his cabin in the Berkshires to reacquaint herself with the things that seem to be missing in her work-heat, passion, and sex. Unbeknownst to Win, there's another person up in the Berkshires that Artie is hoping will be the inspiration she needs.

Vincent "Mac" MacBeth has come to the Berkshires to clear out his father's cabin and get it ready to put on the market now that the older Mac is living in an assisted living home. With his overseas adventures and risk of being shot yet again in the course of his work, the younger Mac has no need for a permanent residence. But when Win Mackland comes moseying by looking for inspiration for her character's latest storyline-sex, sex, sex, and violence-Mac finds himself undeniably attracted to the passionate screenwriter.

This is a funny story that had me laughing out loud at how Win used Mac as her personal muse, and the steamy sex scenes didn't bother me either!

RENO 'S CHANCE by Lora Leigh

Raven McIntire has spent years fantasizing over Reno Chavez, her brother's best friend. She's wanted him for what seems like forever, but even though she's sure she could have him, she hasn't allowed herself to take the chance on loving him. Reno is a Navy SEAL, and his dangerous job prohibits Raven from acting on her desire. Unable to risk her heart on a man who could die in the line of duty, she comforts herself with her daydreams and thoughts of what-if.

Reno has always considered Raven to be his woman. At first, she was too young for him, being only seventeen when he first met her. But Raven is a grown woman now, and he knows that she desires him. He's determined to prove to her that the passion they could create together is worth anything, and that risk of losing someone you love isn't enough of a reason to deny yourself love.

A short, sassy, and extremely sexy story, this is a trip into learning to love despite the risks involved.

4 out of 5 stars Erotic romance anthology not for the timid!.......2005-11-02

I bought this book for Lora Leigh (a fave erotic romance author) and Susan Donovan (a fave contemporary romance author) and neither of then let me down. I enjoyed both of their stories. I had never read anything from Carrie Alexander but I enjoyed her story as well. I must say that I was a bit surprised at Ms Britton's story and found myself not enjoying it at all.

First up is Ms Alexander's story of Estrella and Jesse. Estrella has been lusting after a guy working on a road crew in the neighborhood where she works. She's a maid for a wealthy female executive and when her boss goes out of town on business, she borrows her car, her clothes and her apartment in order to lure the hot road crew guy into her bed. Jesse sees through her "car trouble" ploy immediately but decides to see where this whole farce will go. If she's a rich lady looking to play, why not play along? Well, what he finds is a woman full of contradictions and obviously, as he discovers, not what she seemed. I liked this story. Sure, the plot is contrived but what I really liked were Estrella and Jesse. It's rare to find blue collar leads in romances and here we have a Latina and an ex-con who are both trying hard to build better lives for themselves after past mistakes. I found it refreshing, enjoyable and, of course, steamy!

To be honest, I more skimmed than read Ms Britton's story of a woman who had been raped by her fiance who is looking to get her sexual footing back. She returns to her home town and to the guy whose heart she broke in high school. He's the only guy she trusts to help her recover her sexual self. Of course he is all too willing to comply. Yuck. I thought she was incredibly selfish and he put up with way too much. And I feel I must warn readers of her other books who may not expect it, she does push the envelope with a rather torrid girl-on-girl scene. Not for me.

Susan Donovan is one of my fave authors of contemporary romance and this is another of her fun, amusing and sexy stories. Win is a screenwriter who has hit a slump but still has a deadline to meet. Her agent sends her off to his cabin in the woods to get her inspiration back. Fully knowing that some of the appliances may not be in working order and that her neighbor Mac, a capable and hunky Navy SEAL on leave, is nearby to fix anything that goes wrong. Anything. Will he agree to be her muse? Sexy fun!

In Lora Leigh's story Raven has had it bad for Reno for years. They both know it just as she knows he's been crazy about her as well. He never acted on his feelings because she was too young at the time. He joined the Navy, traveled the world, waiting for her to mature. Now he's back, home on leave, and the waiting is over. He and Raven will finally act on the mutual attraction that sizzles between them. But when feelings intensify can Raven get over her fears about his being a SEAL? She saw what it did to her parent's marriage, can she deal any better than her mother? Intense, hot and emotional. Classic Lora Leigh.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting to say the least.......2005-09-26

WANTED: ONE HOT-BLOODED MAN by Pamela Britton - I was unimpressed with this story. I think it should come with a health warning for the unprepared - there is a fairly lurid lesbian scene which I did not appreciate reading. I understood that the person was confused and had been raped. However that was just taking things way too far.

I also did not appreciate the way that the first two authors kept on using lewd references to female body parts.

Read the last two stories they are well worth it. The first two should be consigned to the bin!

Book Description

Family connections are vitally important to children as they begin to find their place in the world. For transracial and transcultural adoptees, domestic adoptees, and for children in foster care or kinship placements, celebrating the differences within their families as well as the similarities that connect them, is the foundation for belonging. As parents or caregivers, we can strengthen our children's tie to family and embrace the differences that make them unique. Each child will have their own story and their own special place to belong.

This beautifully illustrated and uplifting book, for the 2-5 set, will help to create the intimate parent/caregiver and child bond that is so important. While others may notice the physical differences between us on the outside, inside we are the same.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars nice text, weird illustrations.......2007-09-11

This book is chock full of really lovely sentiment regarding how similar we are ... on the inside...(gross paraphrase)

Unfortunately, the illustrations are freakish. I don't know how else to characterize them. My kids were totally turned off by the way people looked in the story. The mom on the first page looks like one of those dolls with the blue eyes that open and close.

On the other hand, I could see that my 10 year old was intrigued by the text. She couldn't stand the illustrations, though.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed .......2007-08-09

Our red-haired, blue-eyed son and his similarly endowed wife are in the process of pursuing a Vietnamese adoption, so the title of this book attracted my attention immediately. I was quite disappointed in it, however, because it's entirely too specific in listing the ways in which parent and child who do not look alike are still similar. I was especially put off by the religious portion...my son and his wife are not religious, nor are we, but the book assumes that the parent adopting the child is and will pass on that tradition. The book is useless for us and will be passed on to the library sale. The other book I purchased, "The Red Blanket", is vastly superior, both in text and illustration.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved this book........2007-08-05

This is one of the best childrens' books I have ever read. I think its essential for children who have been adopted and its a great book for children not adopted because it gives children at a young age the idea of how special adoption really is. What I loved about the book is that it doesn't just talk about eyes, but legs, and nose...etc. The child is saying in the book I didn't get my features from you but look at all the important things I got from you such as your way of looking at life. It was beautiful, just beautiful. A must have.

4 out of 5 stars Daughter likes it !.......2007-04-07

My 3 year old daughter adopted from China likes this book very much, she likes to follow along with the pictures and calls out "pop pop" etc. in reponse to the various people pictured in the book. We like this one!

1 out of 5 stars I liked it, daughter did not........2006-12-21

As the adoptive Anglo dad of a now 5.5 yr old Chinese daughter this books title and description spoke to me... When it arrived and I read it to my daughter she was quiet... then asked for a different story. She later shared with her mom that she didn't like the story (which I could tell from her reaction while I was reading it) and she did not know how to tell me that without hurting my feelings.. So, as we all know, every human is different. My daughter did not like this book,I did. WHo did I buy it for? Well- it was for US to share, so knowing that SHE does not like it I have to rate this a "1" even though I enjoyed it. PL

Book Description

“I had been Jonathan’s slave for about a year when he told me he wanted to sell me at an auction. I wasn’t in any condition to respond when he told me this.” So begins Carrie’s tale of uncompromising sexual adventure. Set in San Francisco and Napa Valley, this is an erotic journey into the netherworld of slave auctions and training regimes. Imagine Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative lit who moonlights as a bike messenger and has a penchant for irony, self-analysis, and anal sex. “My favorite neo-Victorian erotic romance writer ... bring on the ponies!” — Susie Bright

4 out of 5 stars A great Read.......2007-10-06

I like this book. Carrie's character is well developed and while I like the book because I have a small fettish for BDSM. This was a far better read than expected. Nothing that has never been done before, but far better witten! For those twisted young girls out there that liked to be humiliated then beat and then made to feel safe. . .

This is for you.

4 out of 5 stars Good and interesting read...........2007-07-12

....worth the purchase if you're interested in learning more about some aspects of BDSM, however, this is a fiction novel, so i felt that some exerts were exagerated. Written in the context through Carrie's eyes, which takes you through her emotions and thoughts. Very well written and addicting to read....i couldn't wait to know what happened next! I can't wait to read the second book that continues Carrie's story.

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece!!!.......2007-02-25

From the first sentence of 'Carrie's Story', I was hooked. I read the entire book in a couple of hours. I just could not put it down! I was a bit skeptical about the 'pony play' section the book, but this was not a large part of the story, and it was written in a very classy and interesting way. It was not as steamy as I thought it may be, but it was so compelling. As soon as I shut the book, I came onto Amazon to order the sequal. I cannot wait to read it!!! I highly recommend this book!!

1 out of 5 stars Duped.......2007-02-06

I did not like this book at all. It is nothing like I thought it would be. I thought it was about a continuing story of Carrie Bradshaw the Sex In The City character. It was NOT! This is a S&M story and I have no interest in that whatsoever.

5 out of 5 stars BUY IT.......2007-01-20

You wont be able to put it down so buy the next book by author. You wont regret it. This author has a talent for writing books on the lifestyle. A true gift.

5 out of 5 stars Secrets to Drawing Realistic Faces.......2007-04-11

This book was recommended to me by someone who is an artists for crime victims. It was used in the classes she went to. I am practicing drawing eyes at the moment. I have to say that I am now drawing the best eyes ever. This book explains more that where to put the features. It explains how to make the features come to life.

5 out of 5 stars Drawing Techniques Analyzed and Simplified .......2007-03-23

Again, I checked this one out from the library before purchasing. I did not want another book that just told me to sit down and 'draw what you see'. When it comes to faces, the proportions are the hardest part for me. This book goes into great detail explaining how to 'measure' the features of a real person, not the imaginary kind we see in fashion layouts. I have actually seen great improvement after only a few drawings. The best way to improve is to do separate studies of each facial feature until we get them right, and this book explains how. Practice is what brings the progress. Finding time is the problem. This book makes it very clear that anyone with good eyesight can learn to draw peoples' faces. It's just like learning any other skill. This woman teaches this course to police artists, ordinary people with no previous artistic training. It works!

5 out of 5 stars This book really helped!.......2007-02-08

I love this book, I got it from the library, but I had to have my own copy. I was able to actually capture a likeness for the first time! Her technique of measuring can be applied to more than just faces. I bought her second book, but this one is better.

5 out of 5 stars Drawing Realistic Faces.......2007-02-07

I am very happy with this book, gives you a step by step insight on portraits. This book was also shipped to me within two days, fast and efficient!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Book for Learning to Draw Realistic Faces.......2007-01-10

I love to draw, and most know the Hardest thing to draw is the face. Drawing a Face Realisticly can make or break a Masterpiece, before i was ok my sketchs were nice. I got this book and Practiced, every step, very easy to follow, and understand. Within weeks, i was creating some Portrait Quality Sketches, Now all my friends and Family are asking me to Draw them. I would Recomend this Book to anyone that loves to draw, especially Realistic Drawing.

    4 out of 5 stars Good Kitty.......2007-09-05

I enjoyed the character development and story line. I have read all of Laurell Hamiltons books and the Rachel Morgan series. I have tried a few new authors and I will continue with this series

4 out of 5 stars Light Hearted and Fun.......2007-07-24

I had just tackle a 1500 page novel and moved on to this book. I was not disappointed I wanted something lighter and that's what I got. This is a good story and easy read and kept my attention. I will probally buy more of this series.

5 out of 5 stars A fresh new take on the supernatural world........2007-07-10

I loved this story for many reasons. The psychological aspects of accepting such a change in one's life stand out as a strong point.

3 out of 5 stars Review - Good idea, but heroine is a victim.......2007-07-02

A fun twist on the urban fantasy plotlines - Kitty is a werewolf and has a radio call-in show - very fun. She also inadvertantly is drawn into a murder mystery along the way, and that mystery
is well-done and satisfying to read.

If you like urban fantasy novels featuring strong women Anita Blake(Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Book 1)), Mercy Thompson (Moon Called (Mercy Thompson Series, Book 1)) or Rachel Morgan Dead Witch Walking, The Good the Bad and the Undead, Every Which Way but Dead, A Fistful of Charms and Undead in the Garden of Good and Evil in Dates from Hell (5 books, as a set) (The Complete Rachel Morgan Series) this book may NOT be for you.

Kitty is portrayed in this first novel as newly wered, and controlled by her alpha, which also includes his perrogative as such of essentially getting to rape her whenever he feels like it. And she takes it. She also hates him, but talks about how she used to love him because he was the alpha and "protected her" - ick ick ick. And how did she become a were in the first place? You guessed it - raped by a frat guy while on a date and then dumped in the middle of the woods where she is attacked by a werewolf. The whole book is like this, and when I read it, I just thought "Pathetic and annoying."

The book ends with the bad guys essentially winning, and her getting no revenge because she is weak and insecure.

I've started the second book in this series, in the hopes that kitty will grow a set of fangs and stop being everyone's victim. Will update with a review on that to see if this series can redeem itself.

4 out of 5 stars A Great start for a newcomer to the Paranormal Genre, not too graphic, not too silly.......2007-05-03

I'm somewhat new to the paranormal genre (having been introduced to it by Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire SeriesAll Together Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Bk. 7)) and for me this was a perfect blend of romance, suspense, mysticism, and humor. I've enjoyed meeting Kitty and by the end of the book, you understand the fine line between human and wolf that she treads everyday. She is pulled by the freedom of running with the wolves and the support/protection she receives from the pack, but at the same time she still has her human ties such as friends, family, and a career.
This is a great series for us newbies, not too graphic, not too sexual (not that I don't love a good love scene, it shouldn't consume the storyline), and definitely not too silly. I really tried to get into MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series but fond them much too goofy, but definitly lighter than LK Hamilton or Anita Blake.
I recommend to anyone wanting to check out Paranormal for the first time
