Book Description
The project that captured a nation's imagination.
The instructions were simple, but the results were extraordinary.
"You are invited to anonymously contribute a secret to a group art project. Your secret can be a regret, fear, betrayal, desire, confession, or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything -- as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before. Be brief. Be legible. Be creative."
It all began with an idea Frank Warren had for a community art project. He began handing out postcards to strangers and leaving them in public places -- asking people to write down a secret they had never told anyone and mail it to him, anonymously.
The response was overwhelming. The secrets were both provocative and profound, and the cards themselves were works of art -- carefully and creatively constructed by hand. Addictively compelling, the cards reveal our deepest fears, desires, regrets, and obsessions. Frank calls them "graphic haiku," beautiful, elegant, and small in structure but powerfully emotional.
As Frank began posting the cards on his website, PostSecret took on a life of its own, becoming much more than a simple art project. It has grown into a global phenomenon, exposing our individual aspirations, fantasies, and frailties -- our common humanity.
Every day dozens of postcards still make their way to Frank, with postmarks from around the world, touching on every aspect of human experience. This extraordinary collection brings together the most powerful, personal, and beautifully intimate secrets Frank Warren has received -- and brilliantly illuminates that human emotions can be unique and universal at the same time.

Amazing.......2007-08-24
This book absolutely amazing and unique. Sure there are 3 books so far from him, all with the same postcard concept, but each book is direct and revealing. I found myself looking into my life and relationships and thinking that the post cards are saying and showing exactly what I felt/remember feeling. The pages are beautiful and colorful along with the words and writing that somehow display exactly what the writer was feeling. Even if you only read a few pages every once in a while, it will ground and humble you, pick you up, and make you want to be a better person. Truly amazing.

As a fan of the cult show this is the book to read lots of theories about the symbolism and meaning of the show. A great read pack with insights.
Interesting look into other's minds........2007-08-09
I think this project is amazing. After reading all of the books and getting the updates every Sunday from the website, I have come to realize that everyone has their own bag of crap to carry. It's a very interesting look into the minds of people and the secrets they carry around with them. Some funny, some sad. If you would like a book that is read in one sitting (everyone I have let see it has to look through the whole thing), this is the book for you.
Great!.......2007-07-15
It's the reading equivalent to searching through someone's medicine cabinet. It'll make you cry and make you giggle. Ultimately, it will make you contemplate your own secrets!
People Have Secrets Both Dark and Light.......2007-07-07
And secrets have power. It is a courageous and amazing thing to write down a secret and post it on a website. Some secrets are sweet, some are deep, and some are heartbreaking. But with each secret I read, I know that my secrets are not crazy. I'm just a normal person, like everyone else.
Amazon.com
At the beginning of 2005, Frank Warren launched a new blog called PostSecret as an experiment in community art, inviting strangers to mail him anonymous postcards that made art out of their innermost secrets and then posting a selection of the cards every week on his blog. Within a year, his blog was one of the five most popular in the world, and his first book, PostSecret, was one of the surprise bestsellers of 2005. My Secret is his second book, a collection of cards from teens and college students--none of which has been shown on the website--that carries the same emotional power and creativity that have made Warren's project a phenomenon.
We are featuring seven postcards from the book here: see two of them on this page, and click on the numbers below to see five more.

My Secret.......2007-09-21
This book is classic, just like all of the other PostSecret Books. A must have for the PostSecret collector. You are not alone.
It is nice to know others have secrets!.......2007-09-14
What a really cool way to express yourself! I know for a fact that letting go of a secret makes life a little easier sometimes...and to have the opportunity to see what others have let go of is pretty neat. I wish it were longer!
Inspiration.......2007-08-23
This is an fascinating book filled with people's deepest secrets. It's beautiful to be able to open it, and feel as if hundreds of people have poured their hearts and creativity onto the pages. It's a thrill when you come across a secret and applies to you as well, makes you realize you aren't alone. Visually appealing, along with being the best kind of memoir, this book is a must have along with the other post secret books.
Love it; wish i could share it.......2007-07-18
I've done it a million times, but I still love flipping through this book and reading the secrets. I only wish that it was all "school appropriate" so I could share it with my students. Power points will have to suffice until they come out with a PG edition. Sadly unlikely...
Awesome Idea...tons of fun to read!.......2007-07-17
I love post secret and the person i gave the gift to also loves post secret! Its a great gift idea and tons of fun for everyone!
Book Description
The first photographic tour of the surface of another planet has now been accomplished. Those who thrilled to the lunar beauty of Full Moon and the IMAX smash Roving Mars will marvel at this awesome, vivid, beautiful portrait of what it is like to take a stroll on Mars.
The most fantastic of all journeysthe Spirit and Opportunity mobile robot missions to the surface of Marsproduced over 150,000 astonishing photographs. While the images were made available on low-resolution computer screens as they were sent back across millions of space miles, no one until now has done the painstaking work of editing, cropping, and processing these massive (often larger than 100 megabytes) images.
The person to do it is Jim Bell, the scientist and photographer who led the photography team on this historic expedition. With his unique perspective, these photographs take us from the brave launches of these robots, to the alien landscape they discovered and the mysteries of the planet that they have helped to solve.
Over 150 lavish full-color-process prints bring the colors and textures of Mars to vivid life on the page. Four of the most impressive pictures are presented in their entirety as gatefold images which extend over three feet in widthproviding a view of the surface of another planet unprecedented in its detail and clarity. Postcards from Mars is the perfect gift to give readers who have their feet on the ground and their eyes on the heavens.

Had some damage.......2007-09-27
A beautiful book for a good price. However, the book came with a damaged corner that was not related to the packing. It should have been rated at a lower level.
In fact, this has been the only book I have ever received with this kind of damage.
So, who is profiting from this great book!.......2007-05-16
This book is simply fantastic! The photos are "out of this world". However, my only concern is that as a tax payer, who funded these missions to Mars, how is it that someone is profiting from these photos taken by United States of America vehicles? Why isn't the money from this book going to the USA to offset the cost of the mission?
Mars at ours fingers.......2007-05-16
Spirit and Opportunity rovers are in good health after
three years of hard working in freeze dusty environment.
All this history and images are excelent exposed in this
great book.
spectacular.......2007-05-15
Beautifully written and coreographed , this book is spectacular. The photos from the Mars' surface are superb. What backs up the visuals are the insightful information from an scientist who wrote the book and created it. It is very readable and has a lot of interesting information. It is not a book to instantly read through but to read in sections and savor. I am glad I found the review in USAtoday otherwise I might not have even known about it.This is my review and I think it is a great book for those who want to find and learn about Mars up close.
Mars Photography - with a bonus.......2007-05-07
I expected great photographs in this book and I was not disappointed. They are outstanding. What I didn't expect were the detailed text descriptions of the science and engineering that went into this mission. In addition to being a great coffee table book, it is also a book that I have spent many hours carefully reading. That was a bonus that I didn't expect, but one that I deeply appreciate. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this wonderful project.
Book Description
A facted filled call to action, which Steve Forbes will use to lobby the President and Congress for real reform.
Customer Reviews:
Good idea, and surprisingly well written.......2007-02-08
Like any politically charged book this one (along with corresponding reviews) will likely get mixed reviews right along party lines. Conservatives will love it, progressives will hate it, blah-blah-blah. I think we've all had enough of it. So I figured it would be good to get a traditionalist's point of view, the opinion of a moderate, an independent.
First, the current tax code isn't working, so I welcome any idea for changing it. Steve Forbes proposes a flat tax, or what he calls a "fair tax", in which anyone over a certain income pays 17% income tax. We all pay the same percentage, but obviously different amounts. The rich pay more, the poor pay less, and the really poor don't pay at all. The interesting part is that Forbes uses strong, compelling evidence to support his contention that this will increase (rather than decrease) federal government revenues, that the poor will not suffer under the plan, that the rich will not squeeze through the cracks, and the economy will soar. He cites several other countries who have implemented similar measures and how well their economies have done afterward.
In addition, tax loopholes are closed so the rich can't use accountants to avoid paying their share, the IRS is disbanded, and we all pay our taxes with a simple 5 minute postcard. Sounds great. I'm sure there will be naysayers and "boos" and "hisses", but Forbes makes a strong argument here, at least one strong enough to be heard.
Helpful.......2007-01-10
My Dad gave this book to me for Christmas after I had been complaining all year about trying to do my own taxes. This book just makes you wonder why we have such a complicated tax code and who really benefits from keeping it so complicated; certainly not us the taxpayers. Thanks Steve - hope that you or another person working within the real world, i.e. not the political arena, makes a run for 2008!
We need a flat tax.......2006-12-21
The Flat Tax is very controversial idea that has sparked Steve Forbes to run for the presidency in the past. It is a very interesting idea and one that would do this country a lot of good. Sadly it will never be implemented due to political pressures but it is still fun to read about. This is a very quick book to read that lays out why we need a flat tax and what the oppositions says about it. Steve Forbes addresses some of the big objections and the book is very interesting to read. Highly recommend if you are interested in public policy and want a fresh approach. Especially nice if you think the AMT is useless.
Use the time you saved doing taxes to read a map of Europe.......2006-03-19
Paraphrase from one of the book's highlighted sections:
"In dramatically lowering taxes, Slovakia and its fellow Baltic states...." Since when is Slovakia (hint: small country, east of Austria, north of Hungary) a Baltic state?
This book contains the usual nonsense about doing your taxes on a postcard. We all know that the hard part is not in computing your tax, but in calculating your income. That's what all those IRS forms are all about. The only way to make it so simple would be to tax only reported wages - shifting all the tax to those who work for a living.
The Flat Tax is rearranging the deck chairs on theTitanic.......2006-02-28
I supported Steve Forbes Tax reform 10 years ago when he was trying to become president. I now support H.R. 25 the FairTax. It is a grass roots effort to reform our nations tax code from an income based tax to a consumption based tax.
Everyone keeps 100% of their paycheck without any deductions and it strips all of the embedded taxes out of the supply chain to provide the consumer with a set of tax free goods and services to be taxed only one time by the final consumer.
Simple, flat, fair, completely transparent, no winners, no loosers, and most importantly no tent for the camels to stick their nose in.
Book Description
Much more than just a ribbon of crumbling asphalt, Route 66 today appeals to the world for its nostalgia valuefor the promise that Steinbecks "Mother Road" once held and the places that stood alongside it. As the highway has declined into disuse, so too have the countless establishments that sprouted up from Illinois to California to cater to weary travelers and hopeful vacationers alike.Motor courts, cafes, main streets, filling stations, and greasy spoonsall are represented in this new book featuring dozens of lost-and-found sites not featured in photographer and author Russ Olsens first volume. As does its predecessor, this new installment presents 75 locations along the Mother Roads entire 2,297 miles, showing them both during their heydays as seen in black-and-white photographs taken for period postcards, and as they appear today from the same angle and also with black-and-white photographs. Each site featured is accompanied by a detailed capsule history tracing the locales rise and fall, as well as an exclusive map pointing out its location along Route 66.

amazing book .......2007-08-06
this is a great book in my opinion i love it very informative nice pictures and comparisons from old-new of most photos of places .. i have been on bits of 66 over the years i may never drive the majority of it but reading this book made me feel like i did wonderful is all i can say
Lost and Found.......2007-07-24
Both volume one and two are very interesting and well researched books.
I traveled Route 66 a couple of years ago and reading the book was fascinating- now I know how many locations I went sailing past without a clue!
When I next get a chance to do a repeat journey, I shall certainly re-read the books very thoroughly and travel slower so as not to miss such historic scenes.
Lots of Memories.......2007-07-14
I love this volume and number two. As a child in the fifties whose father was an Air Force officer, I remember the thrills and excitement I had whenever my father would be posted to a new base. My sister and I would be in the back seat and we always drew an imaginary line on the seat which delineated our respective domains.
We would love the nighttimes because when we drove through the towns, there were all these brightly lit signs for drive-in movies. We would usually stop for gasoline and have lunch in some greasy spoon. It seemed like each restaurant booth had a box on the wall that would beckon one to play five songs for a quarter from the jukebox.
As an Army officer myself in the 60's and 70's, I traveled Route 66 with my own family. The thrill was still there up until the 70's when it became more expedient to use the interstates.
These aforementioned books continue to bring back very fond memories.
It is readily discernable that the author spent numerous hours researching his information for each of his photos. Where possible, it appears that he shot the modern versions of the subjects from the same angle as that shown in the archival photos.
I hope there will be a volume III and volume IV.
Interesting book, room for improvement.......2007-05-19
First I have to admit being a bit envious of anyone who hast the time and lifestyle that lets them drive around seeking out these old ruins. I bought this book because I already had the other volume and enjoyed it. I think it would be improved if the 'now' photos were really sized and shot to compare more readily with the 'then' photos; some of them are hard to visualize that it's the same place due to changes in perspective between the photos. Also I would really like to see a few interior shots of the ones which are still standing, abandoned or not, vs. possibly anything available of what was taken long ago if any such pictures exist. I did enjoy the book however; there are lesser efforts out there.
Great book to compare what Rt 66 was to what it is today........2007-04-12
Basically my subject line says it all. This is a unique book on Rt.66 in which it pretty much gets down to details on the buisness establishments and attractions that exist(s)(ed)on the entire run of Rt.66.
The author compares each structure (or attraction) and shows a picture of what it looked like in it's heyday, and what it looks like now.
What is amazing is how many business's have not changed much or have been restored when the comparison is given.
The book is very well laid out and is hardcover, so it could be a nice reference book or even a coffee table book that could be put out to stir up conversations.
This book is NOT a guide on how to get to certain attractions on Rt. 66. Nor does it explain the full history pf the road.
If you are planning a Rt. 66 road trip, you can use this book to find out what you want to see, but then I recommened getting "Route 66 Adventure Handbook: Updated and Expanded Third Edition" by Drew Knowles.
If you want to read up more on the history of Rt. 66, then I would recommend "Route 66: The Mother Road" by legendary Rt 66 historian, Michael Wallis.
Between these three books, one could easily plan a trip on Rt. 66 and be very well informed of its past as well as current history.
NOTE: The only reason why I gave this book 4 and not 5 stars is that not all of the Rt.66 attractions are covered. In fact quite a few of the more well known attractions are not in this book. However, this book is a second volume and there is obviously a volume 1.

Just Introduced to Beverly Lewis novels.......2007-08-06
I received this book as a gift some time ago & put off reading it, thinking it was geared more toward female readers than male readers. I suppose that's true, but it doesn't matter much. I started reading The Postcard & finished within a few days. Now I have started reading The Crossroads at first to see what happens to the main characters next. This book is a good read, not even close to what I imagined it would be!
What A Book!.......2007-01-19
