Book Description

There will be three, kin of your kin . . .

The wild cats have flourished in their new home on the banks of the lake for several seasons, and the Clans are growing strong and healthy with new kits. The time has come for three kits of ThunderClan to become apprentices.

Hollypaw, Jaypaw, and Lionpaw spring from a strong legacy: children of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, two of the noblest ThunderClan warriors, and grandchildren of the great leader Firestar himself. All three young cats possess unusual power and talent and seem certain to provide strength to the Clan for the next generation.

But there are dark secrets around the three, and a mysterious prophecy hints at trouble to come. An undercurrent of rage is rising against those who are not Clanborn, and the warrior code is in danger of being washed away by a river of blood. All the young cats' strength will be needed if the Clans are to survive.

. . . who hold the power of the stars in their paws.

5 out of 5 stars Good!.......2007-10-01

I really think that this book kind of created a new writing style for all the series. I mean, there was one for Warriors, there was one for New Prophecy, and there is a new one for this, and I think that it is really good. I really think that the Erin Hunters outdid themselves on this one.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-09-19

I really liked the new Warriors book! I can't wait until the next book comes out. This book is by far Hunter's best book. Jaypaw, the main character, is angry most of the time because he believes his clanmates think he is weak. Jaypaw, Hollypaw and Lionpaw are the grandchildren of Firestar, Sandstorm, Goldenflower and Tigerstar, from previous books. And they are the children of Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight. Hollypaw becomes the medicine cat apprentice, but then realizes she has special abilities as a fighter just as Lionpaw is a fine hunter and Jaypaw has mysterious powers with StarClan.

1 out of 5 stars Choose your poison: Predictable Plot or Irritating Characters?.......2007-09-05

The Sight tries to recapture the original series, but Firestar's grandkits are tiresome. Jaykit in particular is exasperating; being blind apparantly means that nothing in the world is good enough, and your handicap gives you grounds to continuously complain. Hollykit's arc in exploring medicine cattery seems pointless, (because it ultimately is), and Lionkit is instantly forget-able as an ... arrogant cat who falls into a tunnel?

Being a Warrior apparantly means that you have to be miserable, while you're upholding a code that keeps changing every time the elders feel you need chiding. There have to be 4 Clans, but not really, because there were 5, and StarClan just decided not to tell you. You can't abandon a kit, no matter what, but not really, because Shadowclan likes watching the ones that get caught in snares. And don't forget that StarClan is all-powerful, except when they tell you they aren't, and helpfully offer obscure prophecy. A true Warrior doesn't trespass or steal prey, but no one ever seems to call Shadowclan or Windclan out on that during the Gatherings. And even though the code says a cat is supposed to help a cat that asks for it, none of the leaders ever do, because it'd look bad. They'd rather keep their pride than feed their dying elders.

Ultimately, I can't understand why an animal as naturally disdainful and independent as a cat would swear allegience to such smoky laws. Gatherings especially irk me, because no cat would ever bother to find out how another pack is doing, especially if they're not on their territory. Why go to see a bunch of cats brag about how well they're doing?

The world-building in Warriors doesn't stand up to a lot of scrutiny, and any reader that bothers to start looking closer will find themselves disappointed. Young readers are more likely to forgive the large holes (suspesion of disbelief is always easier when you're little), but that will last only as long as that reader is young. But they grow up, and Warriors will become replaced by better anthropomorphic fantasy, like Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams, and Fire-Bring by David Clement-Davies.

5 out of 5 stars You don't have to be a kid to love the Warrior Cats.......2007-08-29

I am 54 yrs. old and a grandmother. A year ago I was unemployed and was at the bookstore and they had one of the Warrior Cat books on display up front. I am a huge cat/dog lover and I foster cats for a local rescue. Well, I couldn't put these books down. I bought one after another. I hadn't been to the bookstore in awhile as I am working again. Last night I bought The Sight and I can hardly wait to read it this weekend. I'm addicted and I know this book will be just as good as the first. For young and old alike...read The Warrior Cat books....they are delightful!!! Kudos to Erin Hunter for providing an intermediate book series so entertaining to adults...I am reminded of the years I spent in Study Hall reading horse and dog books and I still cry when anything sad happens!! Grammy

4 out of 5 stars A Great Start to a Great Series.......2007-08-16

Without giving too much away, let me say that The Sight is about Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight's kits, Jaypaw, Hollypaw, and Lionpaw and their incredible abilities from StarClan. Most other previously key characters fall back a bit to allow the three kits to take center stage. Don't believe what you hear when others say that Firestar is dead. He isn't. He's still leader of ThunderClan, it's just that he isn't the main character anymore.

This book is an excellent beginning to the series, although I dock a star for the cliche "dog attack" and "fox attack". However, Jaypaw's abilities are original and intriguing, Hollypaw is a lovable character, and Lionpaw seems to be getting a love interest in Heatherpaw of WindClan.

This is an excellent book for any Warriors enthusiast and can give any fanfiction writer the right sort of inspiration they need. If you haven't read this yet, do so!

Setting: Three Sisters Island

Sensuality: 7

A stunningly beautiful, powerful witch who possesses the gift of Fire, Mia Devlin locked her heart away when Sam Logan rejected her youthful love and left Three Sisters Island. Eleven years later, Sam returns to the island to claim Mia and take over his family business, the Magick Inn. Passion still burns between them, but Mia refuses to trust the man who once tore her life apart, leaving her grieving and alone. It's imperative that they find a way to resolve their thorny, complicated relationship for time is running out and the deadline for breaking a centuries-old curse is near. Mia has the steadfast aid of her two sisters of the heart, powerful witches that rule Air and Earth, but without Sam's help, even Mia's powers may not be enough to keep her alive until the deadline. And unless Mia makes the right choice about her heart and Sam, evil may win in the final confrontation, destroying all their lives and Three Sisters Island as well.

Face the Fire is the third and last book in bestselling author Nora Roberts's trilogy of witches, magic, and an age-old curse that began with Dance upon the Air and Heaven and Earth. This novel boasts a vivid seaside setting, sympathetic characters, and enough details about the practice of magic to intrigue the most cynical of readers. This is Roberts at her best. Don't miss it. --Lois Faye Dyer

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-05-16

I think this is the first Nora Roberts book that I put down and didn't finish. I just could not get into this one and was disappointed. I liked the first book and was okay with the 2nd but this I just couldn't care about. First, I did like Mia but Hated that she was constantly flirting with Riley's boyfriend/husband and that he reacted to her made me a little uneasy as well. Anyway, Sam was just a disappointment....okay he leaves her FLAT without explaination, even after sleeping with her and writing that saying on the wall in the cave, then he has the nerve to come back 10 years later and wonder about her coldness. He thinks she is just going to blow up at him and he would soothe her. I wouldn't have even given him that after breaking her heart so completly. Just couldn't get past that and the book was a bit boring. This series just went flat and I am a huge Nora Roberts fan.

Oh well, this one just wasn't for me.

5 out of 5 stars Island Getaway.......2007-05-13

As usual, Nora Roberts delivers another excellent series. This series was one of the first Nora Roberts books I discovered.

Since then, and yeah, I'm a guy, and I lift weights, and I'm a straight macho guy, ad nauseum, but I love Nora Robert's writings, I have read thirty five of her books in the last three months.

The ladies at my favorite restaurant enjoy talking to me about Nora Roberts. I have a couple of them reading Nora Roberts and one lady and I are exchanging different copies of her books.

Enjoy this series. It is one of her best. It has the best blend of magic, romance, good plot twists, and strong characterization. Her series creates a desire in you to pick up the atlas and start hunting down the island and it's inhabitants.

And guys...with Nora Roberts you just might gather a little insight into the minds of these amazing female creatures. One hint...bring lots of chocolate and never forget what outfit and scent she wore the first time you met her.

Nora...I'm about to figure you out!

3 out of 5 stars An ok ending.......2007-04-30

It was a so-so ending. It got a little confusing at the very end with so much going on at the same time. The series started out good and if you already started the series finish it until the end if not, I would skip over the series completley. Not my favorite.

Something he can detect, but she'll never admit. Fascinated by her struggle with her amazing abilities, he becomes determined to help her accept who she is-and find the courage to open her heart. 4 out of 5 stars Not quite enough magic to make me believe.......2007-06-15

While I loved the first and the last trilogy book in the series, this one ran cold to me. Ripley could have been created as a character who, although, had grown up independent, tough, and with ambivalence about her powers, revealed some redeeming soft side which would have given her more "believe-ability" with her story line and the readers. she did nothing but B**ch at Mac, showng no civility, let alone warmth. The men I talked to said they would never had been tempted to pursue Ripley even if she was a super hot thing, which in reading did not indicate she was that far over the top to cause a man to lose his brain power anyway (sorry, but that was the consensus: Mia was drop dead, cannot help but stare gorgeous, and Nell was the adorable sweet girl -next-door, everyone loved her). I never saw Mac falling for Ripley. Her character, while moral in seeking justice, did so with a blindness of anger over personal issues. I would have found her more balanced and believable if she had been written with more depth, and more of a history of what happened,(introduced earlier in the story) and why the ambivalence remained with her as an adult. As another reader also mentioned, 10 years of holding a fighting grudge, on such a small island in a tight knit community, is too much to believe (and no one in the community ever noticed it?, or commented on this to Nell,Mac,and Logan? That was hard to believe as well.). In the next installment, she still has her hard edges, and lack of like-ability. when she announced she was pregnant, it was still with a tough tom boy seague. Tough to warm up to...I am glad the other two books carried it through to the conclusion.

I liked it, but there was less substance to the storyline. The story focuses this time on Ripley. The strong willed deputy. Living with her brother and Nell, Ripley still struggles with coming to terms with the gift she was given and her relationship with Mia. A whole new can of worms is opened. How does Ripley handle threats upon those who she loves? How does she handle something evil brewing inside her? Read it.. its quick!

I enjoyed Dance upon the Air, Nell was a believable and easy to relaate to character, Mia is self-possessed and interesting with a little bit of mystique thrown in. Ripley on the otherhand, I found simply irritating, not so much bitchy as umbelievabley whinny. I understand that Nora Roberts was most likely trying to write her as the 'angry' the one who needed to learn control over her rage, but she came across as mostly whiney and childish. Not an enjoyable read.

Setting: Three Sisters Island, coast of New England, present day

Sensuality rating: 6

Perennial New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts's new Three Sisters Island trilogy is pure magic! No, I mean really magic. An intriguing combination of The Witches of Eastwick and Sleeping With the Enemy, Dance Upon the Air introduces readers to the idyllic town of Three Sisters Island. Reputedly conjured by a trio of sisters seeking to escape the Salem witch-hunts, the island remains a place of quiet refuge for one and all, including pretty Nell Channing who arrives in town afraid of her own shadow, with few possessions and no past. But the warm, sunny days and cool, windswept nights, as well as the loving concern of new friends--especially hunky sheriff Zack Todd--soon lure skittish Nell into a much-welcome fresh life. Nell's new boss, the captivatingly lovely bookstore owner Mia Devlin (look for Mia's story, hopefully, in the not-too-distant future), wonders from what or whom Nell is running. Mia treats Nell as she would a sister, which isn't too far off the mark, helping Nell discover and explore her inner resources while Zack's romantic attentions bring a rosy glow to Nell's cheeks and to her future. But something wicked this way comes… Will Nell be ready to face and conquer her past? Even with the love and support of Mia, Zack, and Zack's fellow police officer, his peppery, down-to-earth sister Ripley, Nell has the fight of her life--the fight for her life--on her hands. Roberts continues to delight fans and create new believers with her talent and imagination. --Alison Trinkle

I absolutely loved this book, and I can't wait to read the second in the trilogy. I loved the characters, the setting, everything! I have yet to read something by Nora Roberts that I dislike. Pick up one of her novels, you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The first in the triology leaves you wanting more..........2007-08-13

I finished the first in the triology this weekend and I couldn't wait to start the next book. This book was hard to put down and I found myself reaching for the book when I had more than a few minutes to savor it.Nora Roberts paints a vivid picture of the Island and its inhabitants. Her characters come alive on the pages making it easy to picture yourself in the setting and becoming involved in the drama. It's a great read and I can't wait to get to book three. Savoring book two....

5 out of 5 stars Great for Women who are or have been abused.......2007-07-04

This story is an example that women do not need to take domestic violence and there is a way out. It is a very romantic story with some "magic" involved. I recommend you check it out and see for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars classic Nora Roberts.......2007-05-15

I have audio tapes of this trilogy (Dance Upon the Air, Heaven and Earth, Face the Fire), purchased at a used book store, and enjoyed the story so much that I wanted the unabridged books on disc. The discs are well worth the purchase price. Narration and clarity of sound are excellent. This trilogy is my favorite Roberts trilogy -- pure escapism at its best. This set is worth a place in my permanent collection -- I'm sure I'll listen to it many times.

Somehow I overlooked this book when it was released, but thank goodness I discovered it later. The author takes readers back in time to share the amazing lives of these sisters. In the process, acquaintances of the Peabody family, that readers already know as historical figures, are brought to life as real, flawed but remarkable people. Readers will identify with these women as they strive to achieve and practice their own talents in a society that shares possibilities and limitations not so different from our own.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite reads!.......2007-07-25

I only get to read on the train to and from work. This book makes my daily trip a real treat. I'm only half through, but hooked from page one. Not only does Marshall make a fascinating biographical and historical account of the Peabody sisters, but she provides answers as to why strong, ambitious, smart women have been so frustrated for so long. Society supressed gifted women in the 1800's so much so that women either became outcasts because they had to find expression, which in itself was restricted to motherhood, housewife or teacher, or they retreated into themselves in the form of illness or depression. Indeed, the contributions to romanticism by the Peabody sisters came at a very high cost to them. And now I can read about them and think "How strange that society was so close-minded back then!"

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book!.......2007-03-17

Megan Marshall has done superb work in this carefully researched account of the amazing Peabody sisters.

5 out of 5 stars The Peabody Sisters Rock.......2007-01-07

This book is one of my picks for the best reads of all time. I usually don't care for biography, but this had me spellbound like a novel. I could visualize the ladies in their respective settings and the personalities were fascinating. What complicated and difficult lives in so many ways, living in one another's shadows. Elizabeth's accomplishments were staggering. Translating from Latin and German? I don't even speak English correctly half the time! How interesting to live in a time when America was smaller. Obviously, I can recommend this book wholeheartedly.

5 out of 5 stars Could Megan Marshall do any more research?.......2006-12-13

Peabody Sisters is excellent. There are so many people connected to these three woman that the reader is vicariously hearing inside information about historical figures, as well as the Peabody sisters---women most of us probably did not know. While you learn the historical significance/involvement of these women, you also learn of their daily lives and personal frustrations and joys. Megan Marshall has some 150 pages of notes and I think she must've examined every diary, note, letter, and biography of every individual involved in the sisters' lives. But, this is NOT a boring biography...Marshall speaks in a readable voice.

5 out of 5 stars Three Sisters.......2007-09-18

I love this story, however, not as captivating as the Circle Trilogy with all the action but really good and would recommend it to anyone. I'm starting on the Key Trilogy now and heard it was very good. Nora Roberts is an excellent versatile writer. I love her spiritual supernatural hero/heroine triologies.

5 out of 5 stars Three Sisters Island CD.......2007-07-03

This CD kept me througly engrossed during my recent car trip. I didn't even want to arrive at my destination until I had heard the last sentence.
The story of witchcraft, romance, and relationships is compelling. The characters are enchanting with their quirks, personal histories, and involvement with each other. The narrative is easy to understand.
I definitely recommend this for entertaining listening.

4 out of 5 stars A good escape.......2007-06-01

This series is very entertaining. You like all of the characters right away, and somehow, even though it is a fantasy storyline, you can relate to and with all of the characters, both women and men. The only thing I did not like was the narrator deepening her voice and using different tones to be three different men. Otherwise a good listen and escape.

5 out of 5 stars face the fire.......2007-02-21

this set of stories were execellent. so open and easy to follow you can't miss what is happening. the three of them with their speciality and love is so heart warming and romantic.

Book Description

The Three Incestuous Sisters is an evocative, illustrated book by the best-selling author of The Time Traveler's Wife, Audrey Niffenegger. Reminiscent of the gothic style of Edward Gorey, Niffenegger's visually stunning narrative affirms her genius as a storyteller. These rich pages present the tale of three very different sisters: one who is beautiful, one who is smart, and one who is talented. A melodrama of sibling rivalry unfurls as one sister is driven mad with jealousy due to the passionate love affair of another. Escalating to a dizzying climax, the romance of the two lovers ends in sabotage, shame, and despair. Haunting illustrations and lyrical prose depict a timeless tale of love, revenge, and ultimately, transcendence.

The Three Incestuous Sisters is a unique and lavish tour de force, which showcases Audrey Niffenegger's incredible talent as an artist and a writer.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures with very spare prose.......2007-05-17

Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife is one of the best time travel stories of recent years, and one of Tammie's favorite books. The Three Incestuous Sisters is Niffenegger's latest and, title aside, a very strange book. Two sisters, Bettine and Ophile, fall in love with Paris, the lighthouse keeper's son. Bettine and Paris conceive a child, and the third sister, Clothilde, begins to commune with the fetus. Ophile goes mad with jealousy and it all ends very badly. The beautiful pictures tell the story as much as the very spare prose. The closest thing to which I can compare it is the work of Edward Gorey.

5 out of 5 stars Evocative art book.......2006-12-26

"The Three Incestuous Sisters" is what author Audrey Niffenegger deems as "a novel in pictures." There is little text in the book, but every spread includes a beautiful full-page illustration that depicts the story of three grown sisters, Bettine, Clothilde, and Ophile. The sisters live together in a secluded house near the sea. When lightning kills the lighthouse keeper, his handsome young son, Paris, arrives to take his place. Paris and Bettine quickly fall in love and conceive a child. Psychic Clothilde communicates with the unborn child, while Ophile is jealous of the union and eventually drives Paris and Bettine out of the house. A confrontation ultimately occurs in the city, where tragedy ensues. Only one sister remains at the house in the end, and she is eventually able to set some things right.

I'm a huge fan of "The Time Traveler's Wife," which is why I was so interested in reading this book. "The Three Incestuous Sisters" is NOTHING like Niffenegger's full-length novel, but it stands alone as a beautiful, erotic, and tragic work of art. The illustrations are haunting and tell the story much more than the sparse narrative text. This is a unique art book and a very illuminating story, and I'm thrilled to finally own a copy!

5 out of 5 stars Handsome Art Book.......2006-09-29

This beautiful book looks like a limited edition artist's book, which is what it was originally. It's filled with large format aquatints (a form of etching) which are gracefully drawn and colored. One can tell from the quality of the lines how much she loved doing this. The publisher did a great job of reproduction, so important in a book of this kind. You can literally cut out the illustrations, frame them, and hang them on your walls as fine art, they're that good. As an illustrated novelist myself I found this book to be inspiring.

There is little text, but what there is is poetic and dreamlike, and tells a disturbing but haunting tale of sisterly love and jealousy. It's not a regular novel like her best-seller "The Time Traveler's Wife," which I also loved, but it tells its story mostly in pictures. I highly recommend this for lovers of book art.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2006-09-18

The Three Incestuous Sisters is a novel in pictures by Audrey Niffenegger, author of The Time Travelers Wife. The basic story line is about three sisters who become jealous over a young lover who chooses Bettine, the beautiful, yellow-haired sister, to be his lover.

The story in words isn't much more than that--the fall out of jealousy and passion, but the story in pictures is so much more than that. The pictures are done in aqua tints, which Niffenegger describes as a very difficult and archaic medium with which to work. She doesn't know exactly how the picture will turn out until it's printed--which has to be exciting.

I bought this book because I loved Time Traveler's Wife so much. TTW was an intriguing book and was written while Niffenegger was in "writer's block" on TTIS. The 14 years it took to get TTIS completed was worth it, especially when you consider the "bonus" of TTW.

4 out of 5 stars Stunning.......2006-08-28

This is a stunning piece of artwork. There were a few pages that I considered cutting out and framing. The art is dark, deep, and honest.

The story lacks in some areas but it is made up for in the artwork. A great conversational piece or coffee table book.

4 out of 5 stars Chekhov plays.......2007-04-11

Plays in general have a tendency to be overly-dramatic. Thus the name "drama". Chekhov definitely used this drama aspect to enhance his plays. He succeeded with some, making them dramatic, awe-inspiring, and amazing. Others? Less so.

I enjoyed reading all of these plays, and I won't deny that. Some, however, are harder to read and to understand than others. It's especially difficult to remember what character is which in each play, especially since in Ivanov, all the names are long and complex. While good plays themselves, I constantly had to flip back to the character list just to remember who that is, a problem rarely found in other plays, such as Ibsen's works.

The plays themselves are good. Each one has its own charm and interest. They're a pleasant read, but a difficult one. It's not something you can just breeze through. Reading these plays needs time and effort, which may be too much for some. If you're looking for any old Chekhov, settle for his stories, like "Ward number six", or even his short little stories. If you're looking for plays (not Shakespeare, that is), go for Ibsen. If you think you can handle this, take it on, but be warned that this is not an easy read.

2 out of 5 stars Nice, but not Chekhov.......2003-03-29

This translation is a nice effort -- at rewriting the original, extremely subtle text as a modern English drama according to the tastes and limitations of the translator. If you're looking to capture the true genius of Chekhov, try another.

5 out of 5 stars Uncle Vanya the greatest play of the last century.......2002-11-21

There are only two modern dramatists that are masters one is Peter Shaffer who wrote the maliciously marvelous Amadeus and the plays of Anton Chekhov the best of which is uncle vanya, the best dipiction of real life its tragedy, its joy and its drama. From the Tolstoyan Astrov, to the depressed Vanya, to the beautiful but vain Yelena. This is a play about life...all people can relate to it in some way and I think Chekhov's philosophy of life is...sublime

5 out of 5 stars Uncle Vanya was my personal favorite.......2000-03-18

Anton Chekhov was a writer who was able to capture the essence of life and inter-personal relationships in his stories. His writing is simple yet powerful and emotionally affecting. Uncle Vanya deals with envy, male-female relationships, despair, and takes a look at life from a realist perspective.

5 out of 5 stars I liked this book.......2000-02-23

I read Uncle Vanya for an English class at my school and I have to say I enjoyed it immensely. Chekhov is able to capture life and the daily struggle of living in a single stroke. Chekhov explores male and female love relationships, self-realization, opposite sex attraction and more. Chekhov's writing in these five plays focus mainly on dialogue and the interactions that take place between his life-like characters. Anton Chekhov has the rare ability to articulate through his story telling the essence of human existence.

5 out of 5 stars A Perfect Collection.......2000-04-10

This collection defines modern drama. From Ibsen's realistic masterpiece The Wild Duck, to Pirandello's brilliant and revolutionary Six Characters in Search of an Author, to Eugene O'Neill's pitch-perfect character study Long Day's Journey Into Night, this collection is the epitome of modern dramatic literature in all its variations. Even the criticism for each play is brilliant. A definite recommendation for serious readers who haven't read any of these, but want to.

Book Description

In an astounding turn of events, the Shluffmuffins twins' long-lost father has reappeared years after his tragic Porta Potti accident. Wally and Cheyenne, of course, are thrilled to see their dear old dad again. But would it be rude to point out how his skin appears to be rotting and falling off in chunks? Or that his breath smells distinctly like bloated roadkill? Come to think of it, he looks an awful lot like . . . well, a zombie. So imagine the twins' delight when they discover that their friend Professor Spydelle has developed a special life-restoring elixir, the only known cure for zombiism.

Hmmmm. Unfortunately, it seems there are still some kinks to work out on that special Elixir of Life. It cures Dad of his zombiism, only to turn him into . . . a vampire.

It would seem that things couldn't get much worse. But when two faces that look suspiciously like giant ants appear in Wally and Cheyenne's bedroom window one night, things take a turn from dismal . . . to dire.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun.......2007-05-10

After going through some difficult times, including being sent to live in an orphanage after the bizarre deaths of their parents, life seems to be getting better for Wally and Cheyenne Shluffmuffin. They're living with Professor Spydelle and his wife Shirley and they've even adjusted to the fact that Shirley is a giant spider. They're having a harder time accepting the fact that their father, who died in a porta potti accident, has returned and is now a zombie. Professor Spydelle thinks he has a potion that can bring their dad back to life, but instead turns him into a vampire (Spydelle should have known better since the last potion he used turned his human wife into a giant spider). Having a dad as a vampire causes all kinds of problems because as much as Wally and Cheyenne love their father, they don't want him drinking their blood. As if that wasn't bad enough, the Onts show up again, determined more than ever to take over the world, starting with Wally and Cheyenne. Wally and Cheyenne try to explain to the FBI that giant ants are threatening to invade, but things go disastrously wrong and Wally and Cheyenne are forced to face the Onts on their own.

The Secrets of Dripping Fang series keeps getting funnier and funnier and book three "The Vampire's Curse" is extremely funny. The humor starts with a funny definition for zombies that you probably won't find in your encyclopedia and Professor Spydelle's eagerness to see a real zombie and continues from there. There's a humorous trip to a music store that also happens to sell viruses, a funny trip to the hospital when dad really needs some fresh blood and an equally funny trip to the FBI. There is humor to be found everywhere in the book, including the illustrations and chapter titles (chapter 3's title is especially funny). Other funny moments include dreams that Wally and Cheyenne have and a phone call from the Jolly Days Orphanage in which Hortense Jolly offers orphans at a discount price (the more you buy, the cheaper they are). Although the book is clearly meant for a young crowd, there are some nice bits of humor aimed at adults, including a quote from Dickens. Adults should be warned that there are some parts of the book that may be a bit scary for children. While the vampire and zombie parts are played for humor, the FBI's visit to the Onts may be too scary for younger children.

"The Vampire's Curse" is great fun.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoy the frightening things that lurk in the night or day!.......2006-03-08

Children between the ages of 8 and 12, particularly boys, have another offering from Dan Greenburg's Dripping Fang series. Book Three: Secrets of Dripping Fang: The Vampire's Curse is more of the things creepy, scary and funny that were introduced in books one and two.

The Shluffmiffin's father has returned, which is odd since he drown in a Porta Potti three years earlier. The twins, Wally and Cheyenne, are excited until they realize that as a result of the drowning, he has become a zombie.

When the twins learn that there is no cure for zombiism, they enlist the help of Professor Spydelle (with whom they are living). The professor has developed an elixir that should cure their father. But something terrible happens and dad becomes a vampire. Now THAT is a problem that needs solving.

Things are bad enough but become worse when the Mandible sisters appear once again. The twins could end up at the wrong end of the food chain. They escaped the Mandible sister's clutches before, but can they escape again?

Armchair Interviews says: This is another installment for kids that enjoy the frightening things that lurk in the night, sometimes in the day, sometimes outside their bedroom window or even in their bedroom.
