Excellent Marriage Book.......2007-07-26
So far this is a great book. It keeps my Fiance and I interested. And it's a workbook!
Great tool everyone should buy one!.......2007-05-25
My fiance' and I are very pleased with this product. We are looking forward to applying what we've learned being engaged and married.
I couldn't be more pleased with the content of this book.......2007-05-24
This book is an amazing tool for anyone planning to make a serious marriage commitment. It asks all the right questions that each of us should ponder and answer honestly before we say "I do." I was introduced to this book by our church when my fiance and I became engaged. We were each deeply hurt by spouses who broke their marriage vows (after 23 & 21 year marriages) and decided it was easier to run away than to work at correcting the areas in which we had gone wrong. I believe that anyone who works their way through this book - step by step - will be building their marriage on the firm foundation of marriage that God intended. What a great investment to make in helping to assure a lifetime of deep commitment and great joy. I believe God will bless any marriage that has been entered into with the time, effort and dedication that this book requires of us.
Great Book.......2007-05-09
We received the product in a timely manner and everything was great. I recommend this book to all couples that I do premarital counseling with.Preparing for Marriage: A Complete Guide to Help You Discover God's Plan for a Lifetime of Love

It develops a framework for healthy discussion for those seeking to get married. Dealing with the topics of finances, sex and marital roles. It is a helpful springboard for conversation.

Good reference for non-chemists.......2005-06-15
As a physics graduate student interested in biophysics research, I found this text an invaluable resource. I had intro chemistry as an undergrad and AP bio in high school, but no organic chemistry or any other background. This text contained a clear introduction to biochemistry and described a lot of the techniques I was reading about in scientific papers in language that a non-chemist could understand. I still refer back to it frequently.
Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry is simply the best one........2004-05-10
The Lehninger Princicples of Biochemistry is the best book in biochemistry that has been written. I have use it in my biochemistry course in my first year in school medicine and thanks to this book I pass my class with one of the best notes in the group. Any other book exposes the biochemistry principles with clarity and coherence like the Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry. I can't wait for the 4th edition.
Good book for biochemistry.......2004-02-15
This book is complete and thorough in explaing every energy pathway (Kreb's cycle, electron transport system, glycolysis, etc.) The diagrams are helpful and explain the material with visual detail especially in this type of book. The only thing, the book is somewhat hard to understand for reading it the first time. I know biochemistry is a hard subject, but I thought it could be explained in a little easier fashion. However, other than that, the book is quite organized and a must buy for every chiropractic student taking biochemistry. I also highly recommend:
National Board of Chiropractic Part I Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
Both these books I found very helpful for studying for the National boards. The text is a must for studying for the biochemistry part of the chiro boards.
Excellent! Can't wait for the Next Edition!.......2004-01-24
If you are a undergraduate or a graduate student who needs to learn some biochemistry from the ground up (without an instructor), this is the text for you. Lehninger really outdoes himself by creating a Biochemistry textbook that's not only colorful and pretty to look at but also wonderfully written. Of all of the science textbooks I've had to read to date, this was the best! Lehninger really does write the text so that it's like reading a novel, which allows for maximum absorption of the material he covers. Occasionally, I hit spots in my reading which were harder to understand, but that was because my own ignorance and not his. He begins the text with a review of the basics of general chemistry and organic chemistry which come into play with the biochemistry subject matter. Then he continues on, developing the student's foundations with describing protein structure and protein function, working his way up with enzymatic properties and activities. Carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids come next. The last section of the book is devoted to biochemical mechanisms, which is alot, but it is covered adequately for a beginner's textbook. The only major drawback: many of the answers to the chapter questions are wrong, hopefully, this will be addressed in the 4th Ed. If your school doesn't use Lehninger, protest, write treatises, do anything to convince your Biochemistry professor to use this text to teach you biochemisty! It's expensive, but once you have this textbook, don't ever sell it because if you're going into chemistry or biochemistry, it will be a priceless resource for your future studies!
Two thumbs way up.......2003-06-14
This book is one of the best biochemistry available. It presents an extensive amount of valuable concepts and information a highly readable manner. I used this text as an undergraduate and even as a gradduate student I find it impossible to part with it. The understanding biochemistry CD that is included with the book is also an excellent tool for revision. I found that the retention of information and ease of understanding is higher when the book is used in conjunction with the CD. It comes highly recommended for any serious students of biochemistry and as an invaluable reference.
Book Description
In Discovering the Mind of Women husbands learn to understand their wives as Christ would. From this point they learn to respond to their wives in a consistent Christlike manner. A radically transformed and renewed marriage is the result.
Drawing from his own story and the stories of husbands whose marriages were dissolving, Ken Nair reveals major problems in life and marriage. After discussing the problems, he reveals relationship altering concepts which not only will revive a marriage, they will radiate throughout couple's lives as well.
Customer Reviews:
This book will change your life!.......2007-08-25
I have been married nearly 30 years. Three years ago my wife and I went through a Christian program for relationships and applied biblical principals that have transformed our marriage. This book Discovering the Mind of a Woman says what I have been living for the past three years. The bottom line is that God's principals work and this book explains these principals in a concise and biblical way. By letting go of my ego, and pride and getting rid of any sin in my life that God shows me I can die to my carnal nature and put on Christ every day -actually on a moment by moment basis. For me it was like having blinders taken off my eyes. By resolving bitterness and being Christlike by agape loving my wife like Christ loves the church I am experiencing a transformation in my relationships with God, my wife and our children. This is a must read for every man that is looking for a closer walk with God and strengthened relationships of all kinds.
groundbreaking and marriage-saving.......2007-07-27
My dh read this book and then asked me to read it. I found it a refreshing change from other books on marriage I've read. It is the only one I'm familiar with that actually holds men accountable for the success of their marriages and the emotional and spiritual health of their wives.
The criticisms mentioned in reviews here and elsewhere on the 'net are gross exaggerations and misrepresentations. It is worth noting that these reactionary comments were all made by men. If these husbands allow their wives to read the book, the women will find themselves amazed at their agreement with Mr. Nair's insights.
Most popular works on Christian marriage focus quite strongly on the wife's duty to reverence and obey her husband--this one stands out as proclaiming the balancing (and in my opinion, currently more needed) view of a husband's Christlike, sacrificial (Eph 5:25) love for his wife.
The proof, as they say, is in the pudding, and the true eternal value of Mr. Nair's work is evidenced by the happier husbands and wives who have benefitted from his book. Without a doubt, husbands who take his exhortations to heart will find deeper true intimacy with their wives on every level.
Discovering the Mind of a Woman.......2007-06-16
A must read for men seeking to be better husbands. It gave me insights into why my wife reacts the way she does to my words and actions. I plan on including this along with a few others like it to help divorce proof my small group.
Transformation.......2007-06-10
I have seen, in my own life and in the lives of others, the fruit of Ken Nair's teaching. The concepts within this book are not of Ken's own imagining, but are inspired; indeed, they can be found in the scriptures. "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"
Matt 7:16
Not The Full Counsel of God.......2007-01-31
Though much of Nair's books contain good scriptural truth, he does not "declare unto you all the counsel of God." I have attended his seminar and his counsel is one-sided and his viewpoint of women is condescending, unrealistic, and unBiblical.
1. By implication, Ken teaches the only reason wives sin is because their husbands are not being Christlike.
2. In his books and presentations, Ken freely applies Scripture to the responsibilities of husbands, but does not apply them to wives or even address their Biblical responsibilities except to teach the only job a wife has is to berate the husband when he is not being Christlike.
3. Ken condemns husbands for their sins, but allows wives to freely indulge in those sins:
Ken says that women "are the historians of the family and always remember past offenses." Even though in 1 Corinthians 13:5 reliable translations tell us that true love does not keep a record of wrongs, Ken encourages wives to do the exact opposite.
Ken says, "outbursts of anger are the only way women can get men to listen," and yet, Ken encourages such anger ignoring James 1:20 and Ephesians 4:31-32 that such behavior is sin.
One walks away from Ken's books and seminars wondering if women are truly capable of sin unless their wayward husbands drive them to it.
4. Worse of all, Ken is guilty of only quoting partial verses. 1 Peter 3:7 says, "You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, *as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.* The section between the asterisks is omitted from Ken's workbooks and presentations changing the emphasis of the verse. This is not the only verse Ken only partially quotes.
5. Ken knows he stands on shaky ground and manipulates those who question him by accusing them of being carnal and "fleshly."
The bottom line is that Ken is correct when he instructs Christian husbands "ought to love their wives as their own bodies." However, he does everybody a grave disservice when he fails to instruct a wife to "respect her husband."
Those struggling in dysfunctional marriages will do better with certified Christian marriage counselors or the writings of James Dobson or other qualified Christian counselors, but I cannot with clear conscience recommend Ken's books and his expensive seminar and his very costly, three-year-long discipleship course.

The smart take on initiative .......2007-09-17
Corporate employees must contend with downsizing, scarce jobs and scarcer benefits. In today's virtual corporations, a handful of employees do the work that many people used to do. To survive, make yourself an irreplaceable employee. That's the short, sweet, familiar point (and the only message, given the book's brevity) that Bob Nelson conveys in this simple but clear manual for long-term employment survival. Take the initiative, assume responsibility, know your job better than anybody else and fulfill your supervisor's expectations - even the unspoken ones. Become indispensable: it's here in a nutshell. We find that Nelson provides valuable tips on being a proactive employee and, for fun, illustrates them with some bright little stories.
Initiative + Timing = Promotion.......2003-07-18
This is a very easy to read book full of examples of how people were able to make headway on the corporate ladder by showing initiative, waiting until the timing was right, and even disobeying superiors.
Through a string of specific examples from which generalized ideas are formed, this book explains how you can be an empowered employee with a driving force that will not only bring you job satisfaction, but can help you turn even a doldrum job into an opportunity for success.
The ideas, such as "be a person that makes things happen" can apply to any job, you just have to think about how it can apply to you.
Pro-active thinking!.......2003-02-03
Bob Nelson has assembled a quick reading book on popular business concepts and situations facing a regular employee. He offers suggestions on becoming more pro-active than re-active to situations that arise through out many different careers. Nelson also gives examples of true story scenarios in which a person took a chance or challenged an idea and was later promoted for it. He talks about successes and also failures in careers in which people either sat on the sidelines or got in the game. This book most can probably read in a day as it is under 100 pages and reads very fast. It has quick chapters and a lot of useful insight.
Not so thrilled.......2002-05-17
I was a bit disappointed after reading the book because I thought the author was giving 'general advice' rather than 'specific tips'. I would rather recommend 'The Administrative Assistant' (Crisp Publications)
Encouraging a good employee to be a great employee.......2002-01-23
Bob Nelson doesn't pull any punches, and he says what every employer has always wanted to say, but couldn't quite find the right words. I am purchasing a copy of this book for each of my departments. It will be required reading for all employees. It drives me crazy when an employee is asked to do something and the first thing out of his/her mouth is, "but I don't know how." Fine, you don't know how, but you are an intelligent human being whom I hired, and you can learn. I love the person who doesn't have a clue, but takes on the task, thinks things through, asks questions, and gets the job done. Stagnation is boring, and it's not long before it starts to stink. This books gives employees great ideas to keep from being anything but stagnate. If they work for me, they know actions speak louder than words, and the right actions will take them places. Employers, be sure to read the book. As a companion, read "First, Break All the Rules" by Marcus Buckingham and Donald O. Clifton, Ph.D. With these books, you will have the tools to make your organization soar.

Book Description
National icon Willie Nelson has evolved over the years from country music outlaw swimming against a Whiskey River to a Zen-like figure of wisdom and contentment. In this autobiographical collection of life advice, The Tao of Willie, one of America's truest hearts reveals the spiritual and practical lessons learned from decades of hard knocks and good bounces.
This inspiring and entertaining collection of "Willie wisdom" takes us from his days as a young boy in Texas where he learns to respect his elders, to his roadhouse days when he united redneck rockers, long-haired hippies and straight-laced country music fans, to the mega-sized benefit concerts and environmentalism that define his boundless heart. And there are plenty of his favorite jokes along the way.
With stories that will both make you laugh out loud and look deep inside yourself, he shows us how the Willie way and the way of the Tao can also be your way. Let Willie's common sense approach to life awaken you to the happiness that already exists in your own heart. With Willie as your guide, join the river of life and you'll be carried on an amazing journey.

Backstage with Willie.......2007-09-11
I deployed to Afghanistan in May 2006. The morning of my departure, I received a phone call from both of the authors of this book. Willie and Turk wished me luck and a safe return on my journey. It was a memory that has been with me ever since. Just this past week, I had the fortune of getting to see Willie Nelson in concert (The Last of Breed Tour) for the first time in my 33 years. It was an amazing show and I also had the pleasure of meeting him backstage as he proceeded to the stage to perform with Merle Haggard and Ray Price. What an experience!
While on deployment I was able to read this book. There is little happiness in Afghanistan these days. But every night prior to lights out, I could always count on a smile and a reflection of my life through the words in this book. It was a pleasure to read.
To Willie and Turk...Thank you!
THE TAO OF WILLIE: A GUIDE TO THE HAPPINESS IN YOUR HEART.......2007-08-31
I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK AND AM AMAZED AT THE WISDOM OF WILLIE. HE HAS CAPTURED GREAT DEPTH IN HIS INTERPRETATION OF THE TAO AND OFFERS IT IN SUCH A WILLIE-READABLE MANNER. THIS BOOK IS A TRUE JOY. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED TO EVERYONE.

Fun to Read.......2007-02-13
This book is so much fun to read. Willie is such a wise man and has some great advice in this book. I would definitely recommend!
Delightful.......2007-01-06
I am a university professor and read many books, but I have not enjoyed a book this much for quite some time. It is a laugh out loud, down to earth book that brings one back to reality while having fun doing it. I put this book on my "read once a year" shelf, and sent copies to others. A quick read, and well worth it! Thanks for the good time, Willie.

Fascinating Incursions in the Infinitely Unimaginable Kingdom of Wireframes .......2007-06-28
Fascinating Incursions in the Infinitely Unimaginable Kingdom of Lehninger's Principles of Biochemistry(Fourth Edition) (Hardcover) by David L. Nelson and Michael M. Cox, Freeman 2004.
This is a medium-sized heavyweight classic, updated, honest and useful for physicians. The authors do not make a fuss about the wealth of data available in biochemistry, keep a cool attitude overall and somehow manage to inspire lay readers. Physicians benefit from it a lot, since the dreaded detail of molecular pathology is described at an amazing level of medical awareness and even clinical relevance. Molecular models are clear enough for the busy practitioner who has little if any real interest in the arcane wireframes of those nevertheless current substances involved in prescriptions. The print is fine, and readable, the pagesetting is minimalist but useful, and the index is workable. As for the biochemical material, in the original text of Lehninger, everything has been carefully updated, in order not to spoil the reader with the usual Big Pharma nonsense. Incredible as it may sound this is an independent book even in the Age of Virtual News. Highly Reccommended.
In conclusion, here we have a book we will not buy for the beauty of our reference desk, even in the age of the instant reference.
ISBN : 311017054X, BOBE-5277-REFS-0001, RANK : #10,887, 1100 pages, fourth edition.
Compulsory Read for Bioscience Students.......2007-05-07
What can I say? This book is almost certainly on every university's recommended reading for biochemistry, molecular biology and bioscience students. It is incredibly generous in detail and depth. I've used it for my undergraduate and postgraduate studies and still keep it as a crucial reference for my doctorate research. Definitely a must have!
good text and illustrations.......2007-01-19
It is very usefull book and it consist alot of information. More, this book is easy to read for foreigners. I am glad to have it.:)
supplemental.......2006-12-22
This book was a supplemental text for my class, so it was good as an aid for material not covered extensively enough in my other text. It is not terribly deep in context, though, especially for the money.
Short Attention Spans.......2006-11-25
This Biochemistry textbook is extremely well-written. The figures, tables, and boxes are quite informative, and the problems at the ends of the chapters will challenge you a lot! I really don't know why anyone in the sciences would not like this book. First of all, an incredible amount of data and research went into the making of this book -- so there is A LOT to learn. Second of all, this is a Biochemistry textbook, which means that the material will seem mind-numbing and dry. But since when does "interesting" entail "fun"? No one can be automatically excited by the subject matter; it requires a conscious effort to GET excited, once you get past the mind-numbing part -- exercise your brain!
The only reason I can think of which would turn people away from this book is having a short attention span! The whole point of learning is not to be entertained but to be educated, and this book is the perfect tool for educating. There aren't any goofy cartoon characters or child-like drawings in this book, which may seem why many are turned off by it. But the subject matter is extremely interesting, and if you are willing to learn about the amazing chemical processes within cells, then buy this book! (Learning Glycolysis and the Citric Acid Cycle for the first time will NOT be a fun task -- take my word for it, it's extremely dull -- and no amount of cartoons can make metabolic processes fun. But such processes should be appreciated, regardless of the level of difficulty in learning them.)

Great Text For Environmental Design Management ! Flawless!.......2006-10-13
I live, study and work in the New York Tri-State region and this book is pretty great because the author also lived, worked and studied in the same region. Whats good about that? The Human Development and Expliotation is our region is very diverse and often connects directly with other prominent regions around the globe. The author basically covers alot of legalities, origins, design principles, and field work analysis really well.
This was one of the easier to read text in my classes, not because it is written in laymans terms, but he writes the ideas in a clear concise manner and covers alot of material with great efficiency using (the best I've seen in any enviro-engineering text) superb diaghrams, pictures and charts.
As a whole I felt the text demystifies alot of what this field is about so I usually recommend it to other non-environmental engineers, planners and designers that I come across in my school and work.
The book is expensive but I felt it was one of those few (if any) books you'll ever buy in college that is worth every penny.
This one is a keeper!
GREATEST ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING BOOK.......1999-02-05
GREAT!!!!!
94 S: Excellent Resource, Environmental Health professionals.......1998-10-15
I have just reviewed the ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND SANITATION 1994 SUPPLEMENT, by Joseph A. Salvato and Joe E. Beck. It's a great resource for professionals seeking a broader vision of environmental health practice areas and where we are heading. Prof. Beck obviously put a lot of work into conceptualizing this volume and working with the distinguished contributors. It shows. In particular, I found the first chapter, Stakeholder Focused Interactive Planning (SFIP)by Joe Beck and Steven Ison to be a brilliant piece on the desirability of (indeed, the imperative for our profession to) include the public in problem-solving and planning. I have used this process and mediated disputes ranging from siting controversies (haz. waste facility siting in Massachusetts) to determining future land use options at Hanford in the nuclear weapons complex. I commend both Beck and Ison for their clear portrayal of the paradigm as well as the steps one undertakes in conducting such planning. Federal government engineers and planners have been learning the hard way about what happens when decisions are made without public input and without regard to the values, interests, and expectations of so-called stakeholders. At Hanford, more than $20 billion in appropriations has yielded preciously little in terms of actual cleanup: one may wonder if Congress will continue to appropriate the substantial $6 billion a year for the Dept. of Energy's Environmental Management Program without consensus of the public on #1) the benefits or #2) the ameliorated risks from present expenditures. Current stakeholders come from a wide range of public interest groups and they do not get along particularly well. They do not have current programs or projects that reflect the use of the SFIP and researchers should be asking themselves, "Why not?" (Resources for the Future [RFF] has an on-going research project that tackles public participation in environmental decision making).
I would also like to comment on Ch. 6 "The Institutional Environment: Biosafety" by Darly Rowe. The importance of Dr. Rowe's conclusion that we must rely on consultation and working with the client on biosafety issues cannot be overstated. I also like the typology which places biosafety issues in proper perspective. We seem to be deluged with risks and risk information, and his approach is clear, concise and elegant. In sum, I believe that environmental health professionals can apply the insights in this series of articles in a way that will help supplant the "command-and-control" mentatlity that has battered so many of our colleagues and public health/environment inspectors, and baffled decision makers in the past two decades. Asst. Prof. R. Steven Konkel, Ph.D., EKU
Excellent reference book with questionable publisher support.......1997-09-14
This text is one of the most definitive AND USEFUL shelf references for the environmental health sciences. Detailed, accurate, wide-ranging on topics of immediate interest to the practicing sanitarian, engineer or the very interested non-practitioner.
Support from the publisher has been poor. For two years after the announcement of the current addendum, the publisher "disavowed knowledge" of an addendum. When published, the addendum had the same ISBN number as the complete text -- creating the unture appearance of a "reduced" price complete addition.
Salvato, could for the price of this text, be on a more current update of information contained in some chapters (2-3 year cycle). The scope of this work would justify numerous consulting authors. While it is one of the best shelf references and "learning texts" it could still be improved and be better supported by a publisher that sometimes seems to have insulated itself from the buying public.

Book Description
"Of all the literature I use while preparing field guides for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Nelson's Fishes of the World is, by far, the one I refer to most often. [This] book is a standard reference . . . I continue to use it extensively in the ichthyology courses I teach, particularly in laboratory sessions."
-Kent E. Carpenter Old Dominion University
"Fishes of the World is a unique and essential resource for anyone seriously interested in the diversity and evolution of fishes. The family accounts provide quick summaries of current knowledge on all groups of living fishes and many key fossil taxa. It is a required work for every student in my laboratory."
-William E. Bemis Kingsbury Director of Shoals Marine Laboratory, Cornell University
"Only classics are known by the single name of their author, and certainly [Nelson's book] has for four editions been such a book for all those who seek an accessible, up-to-date, readable reference on fish classification. Once again, Nelson presents a balanced view of the sometimes tumultuous, but ever-exciting, study of the phylogenetic relationships and classification of fishes. In doing so, Nelson makes an excellent case for organismal biology, highlighting the many and varied morphological characters we use to diagnose fish taxa and differentiate among the 515 families of living species."
-Lynne R. Parenti Curator of Fishes and Research Scientist, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution
Fishes of the World, Fourth Edition is the updated edition of a true classic in the field. A unique presentation of a modern, cladistically based classification of all the major living and fossil fish groups, this indispensable reference helps scientists and others identify and classify specimens, make familial connections, understand the evolution of fishes, and springboard into further research.
The taxonomy of fishes presented includes the anatomical characteristics, distribution, common and scientific names, and phylogenetic relationships for all 515 families of living fishes. Packed with representative species drawings and information on phylogentic relationships, this informative Fourth Edition features:
* Both fossil and extant species
* More than 500 illustrations
* Fully vetted scientific and common names
* An extensive bibliography

Very Good Book.......2007-10-03
Very good book. It came very fast too...
I was really after it for my work....
It is considered reference for all ichthyologists.
My favorite!
Definitive resource in fish systematics.......2007-09-08
I just received and looked over the Fourth Edition of Nelson's book. It is the most widely-accepted resource for fish classification. Specific points in the classification, as Nelson acknowledges, are subjects of debate and research. Nelson himself seems to take the classical approach of emphasizing morphological (as opposed to molecular) traits in his classification. However, the collection and organization of up-to-date references on the various fish groups in this book is without parallel and this makes the book hugely valuable. Two reasons in addition to cost for the use of drawing as opposed to photos to picture the fishes in this book are economy of space, and ability to convey fossil fishes in a similar manner to existing species. I'm glad that I bought it!
THE world reference for a classification of fishes.......2006-04-20
This is the fourth, long awaited, edition of Fishes of the World.
Since the 2nd edition, it is THE reference for a STABLE PRACTICAL classification of all fishes of the world.
The work done by J. Nelson in the background is enormous, because for each node of the hierarchy are discussed and referenced the concurrent alternatives recently published, and is explained the choice made between them (so that one can appreciate the diversity of opinions, and the work remaining to be done).
Apart from the price that we can always find too expensive (and I am quite sure that he does not pay the author's efforts), the reviews of the previous edition missed 3 points:
- The book does not claim to give an overview of the biology and ecology of fishes, nor to give thorough illustrations of the diversity of fishes. The outlines are extremely useful to memorise the global shape of families and subfamilies. Ok, the 4th edition could have been complete in this area ...
- The book provides a management classification that is close enough of the last validated advances of research. Saying that it is not uptodate is a clear misunderstanding of what this book is useful for. In particular, it does not endorse the last published phylogeny (and by the way, a phylogeny is not a classification) if work clearly still needs to be done to establish and disseminate a new view: it tries to point out the most evidenced status of the classification, but presenting the alternatives: the people in need of one reliable classification can use it as such, the people closer to the edge of research can go further and use the information from the references given.
- I don't know any book in mammals, birds, snakes, lezards, turtles, amphibians that synthesizes the same amount of REFERENCED information, where there are altogether less species involved than in fishes! But sure, many of them have beautiful images ...
Thanks Joe.
worst drawings ever.......2003-01-22
For a book in this price range, we all want more. I have been doing fish illustrations in Environmental Biology of Fishes and some other journals. Dr. Nelson, you should contact me, we need to talk!!
Great book, shame about the price........2002-04-24
Comprehensive coverage makes this a great first reference. Most listings cite further in depth references. Published in 1994 it is probably due to be updated. The worst aspect of this book is the price. Get your library to buy it.

A good subject for working women........2007-07-06
I needed an easy woman's bible study for summer that would allow for it to be completed during a lunch hour. I started this one at my office 3 weeks ago and it has been well-received by the ladies who come for bible study. I love how it is written, and I especially like how organized it is as far as searching scripture when you are doing your lesson.
Although it isn't a hard study, there is a leaders guide in the back of the workbook so if we are stuck on a question we can refer to the answer. I also enjoy the weekly, imaginary "Trinkets to Treasure" and had fun finding the items to display as our reminders.
I plan to continue on with the Woman of Faith Study Guide Series and have already decided on which one. "Encouraging One Another".
Great study book.......2007-05-13
Our women's group of 9 are enthused about this book. It is showing us great, God-given tools for "managing our moods". It has lots of Bible verses to look up, and the comments by the Women of Faith are personal and encouraging. We also like the Leaders Guide in the back, for adding to our own comments on the study questions.
Maybe it's just me..........2007-03-22
Perhaps I'm used to Bible studies that dig deeper into scripture, but I felt I was trying to discuss partial truths. We never stayed on one verse long enough to discuss its full meaning, let alone the context of what was around it. I enjoyed being with a group of women once a week, but I'd rather spend my hour on a more in-depth study. There are no questions that spark discussion of different ways of looking at a thought, a value, or an insight. I can't grow if everyone agrees on everything! This felt like a surface-skimmer to me.

Second half more strength driven..........2007-07-23
This book was a great addition to my formative years as a professional. It opened my thoughts up to what needed focus in my career and where I was headed. The first part of the book was dry and a little off the topic of strengths. In fact, it seemed to center more on weaknesses. For some reason, I kept reading, looking for the positive reinforcement for which I had hoped.
The second part pulled it through. From catalysts to empowerment, I found more value and direction. It not only provided ideas, but activities as well. Lists were created and action plans set. If you are a new professional, exam the details within. If you are a seasoned executive, remind yourself and your staff of where your strengths lie and allow them to grow.
Soar with your strengths.......2007-03-26
This has been interesting and provides me a new point of view about takeing decision in terms of strengths and weaknesses.
It is easy to read. I am not very good in english leguage and tor ead it was not a difficult task.
Rabbits don't "Fly", they "Jump" and "Run".......2005-05-03
Soar with your Strengths is an inspiring book for business professionals, managers, and individuals seeking to achieve their absolute best.
To open, the authors tell a fun parable "Let the Rabbits Run" which conveys the message of how important it is to focus on your strengths instead of trying to shore up your non-strengths (weaknesses). It tells a story of a rabbit that is going to school to become well-rounded, sound familiar? Moving along, the rabbit excels in hopping and running classes. However, the rabbit didn't do so well in swimming class. Flying class was even worse; he couldn't even get off the ground. He felt like a failure. Naturally, his parents reinforced the school's intent to create well-rounded students. And, the school counselor "helped" the rabbit by canceling his running and hopping classes and putting him in extra swimming and flying classes. Don't worry, there is a happy ending, courtesy of the Wise Old Owl.
Authors Clifton and Nelson offer an interesting book on how we, in business and in life, fail to focus on our strengths and manage our weaknesses. Consider how often the top salesperson is promoted into management, irrespective of actual leadership ability.
The authors advocate "The Power Of One Simple Question" which is "What would happen if we studied what was right with people versus what's wrong with people?"
Applying the principles to my own life, I soon discovered that I too fell deeply into the trap of focusing on my non-strengths (weaknesses) instead of my strengths. In fact, there are some things I'm just better off not doing or at least delegating to others.
In summary, many insights are offered throughout this book. Business owners and managers will do well to read this book and apply the principles, first to their own lives, then to encourage associates to discover and focus on their own strengths. Focusing on strengths is one of the few remaining hidden secrets of unleashing productivity.

Cute concept, bad book........2005-03-15
Title says it all, "play to your strengths". No need to read the "book", or if you must, simply skim at your nearest Borders, Barnes & Noble, or fave store with a reputable coffeehouse. My quibble is less with the authors' philosophy and more with their writing. This is simply not a very well written book--no chapters, bold headings every five sentences, and endless laundry lists (43 at last count) of things to do, ways to manage, etc. Although I agree with the need to appreciate the talents of each unique individual and not dwell so much on a person's need-for-improvement areas, I did not think the authors proved their points. They were content to slap down some famous names, rehash a few entrepreneurial successes, and quote the Gallup polls (which were self-serving anyways in light of Clifton's ownership of Gallup). Please try to waste your money on something better written.
"Soar" Bores.......2004-06-07
A coemployee recommended this book, because quite frankly, I am a heavy-handed manager who sqaushes my employees' strengths like cockroaches, while demanding they get better at what they are incompentent at. As simple as it is, I have always thought "The Little Engine That Could" taught the essence of success. Now, after reading "Soar With Your Strengths", I'm sure 'Little Engine' teaches the essence of success. Yeah, let's just blame everyone else for what we stink at and make ourselves feel better by only doing the couple things we're good at. This does happen to be real life, and the losers will be the commune hippies who toke doob and tell each other just how strong they are. Well, you weaklings just keep on talking to yourself in the mirror, as the rest of the world passes you by.
