So far so good!.......2007-09-09
I just got this book and have been taking the supplements daily for about a week. I know that is not a long time, but I already can tell my skin is firmer. My dark circles under my eyes have vanished too. I am 105lbs and work out with weights and run but my cellulite just seemed to be creeping its way farther and farther down my thighs! This book makes complete sense that it is not a weight problem or due to being out of shape. I ran a marathon 4 years ago and I noticed a picture of myself running and of course my cellulite was visible. Even that level of training did not budge my cellulite. As for the supplements, they are easy to find. I found them at Wal-mart. I will report back in eight weeks for further results.
Best book in the subject.......2007-08-13
I love this book. He gives real and effective solutions. I have seen an improvement since I started following his recommendations.
Great book!.......2007-02-22
I absolutely love this book! On one hand it's very easy to read, on the other hand it's scientific and lays out the physiological reasons for the formation of cellulite in the first place.
Dr Murad's advice are very easy to follow and implement. If you are looking for a realistic solution for your cellulite and a way to improve your general health (and just some quick fix), buy this book.
Interesting view.......2007-02-11
I bought this book because I really want to get rid of the cellulite. I practice sport 3-4 times a week for more than 10 years and I still have cellulite, I have bought tones of cremes...and nothing ...mah....I want to give a chance to this book. It is interesting to read, the ingredients are easy to find...now let's hope for the best results.
The Cellulite Solution delivers results!.......2006-11-28
I've always been a skeptic when it comes to beauty products and books, but The Cellulite Solution has made me a believer. I'm a 29 year old female in fairly good shape with a small build, but I have battled cellulite for years. I have tried various creams and spa treatments, but nothing has worked. That is until I read the solutions Dr. Murad provides in his book. In one week, my energy level increased dramatically and my skin looks so hydrated and fresh. It's absolutely amazing! I purchased a bottle of multivitamins (Prevention Magazine brand for women) plus three bottles of supplements that I take twice a day. I've also incorporated a lot of the fresh fruits and vegetables (listed in the book) into my daily meals. I even made the chicken and vegetable soup recipe mentioned in the book. It was delicious. The hardest thing to do has been giving up caffeine (which I'm still working on). I'm only drinking one to two caffeinated drinks a day as opposed to my previous five or more. I highly recommend this book and continue to be impressed with the simplicity of the program and especially the results. Despite what we've all been told, we don't have to live with our cellulite. Thanks to Dr. Murad, there is a solution.

Bump in the Night-Nora Roberts.......2007-01-10
I enjoy this series by Nora Roberts, and this book kept up with her great work. I always hate when the book ends and want the story to keep going.
Great.......2006-11-10
As usually J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) has brought us the complicated Eve Dallas with all her baggage, passion and skills, to solve a murder. The complicated relationship between her and Rourke and the realistic futuristic setting make it all intriquing and enjoyable
Not the best, but still enjoyable........2006-10-23
I purchased this book for #26 in the In Death Series.
In story number one, we have Haunted in Death. The year is 2060 and Eve is investigating the murder of Radcliff C. Hopkins III at a building that that been haunted since the disappearance of Bobbie Bray 85 years ago. Bobbie's skeleton is found near Radcliff's body and the murder weapon is the same for both murders. I thought the idea of this story was excellent and very unusual, however it was missing something to me. Still good but not perfect.
In the second story,Poppy's Coin a young girl is told a story of a magic coin and true love occurring in 1817. David Lindsay comes home from war with two children to raise, only one might be his. His daughter gives him a magic coin and he wishes for employment. Soon after a wealthy widow hires him to be her escort at all the Society events. This story is nice and entertaining.
In the third story,The Passenger, Grace is a photojournalist documenting strange happenings on Spirit Lake. Where boats and planes are known to disappear and strange lights appear. Josh is an adventurer, his next stop, Spirit Lake. While flying he notices a stowaway passenger just before his plane crashes. Grace sees the crash and rescues him. Another entertaining read.
In the last story,Mellow Lemon Yellow, Charlotte comes face to face with her childhood imaginary friend at her fathers funeral. Mel teaches her how to live life fully. She meets Sam and it's a nice ending to a good story.
This is a good book and each story is unique and enjoyable. I just expected a different kind of paranormal from the title Bump in the Night.
Not unreadable, nothing special.......2006-08-08
Novelettes for the beach, perhaps. These are 4 novelettes (or novellas, I've never really been able to tell the difference) written especially for this collection. Many people will see this book pop up because they've purchased other J.D. Robb books, and if you are someone who is collecting every single bit of the "In Death" series, then I suppose you'll need this one. However, it's not really a very good story in the series. The theme of the book being "paranormal" stories, Robb has to try to fit something spooky into Eve's normally rational and scientific world, and frankly, I don't find that it fits well. The story and the plot itself depend entirely on things that could have happened in 2006 as easily as 2060; the part that's supposed to make it 2060 is that the murder has been done with a gun, and guns are quite rare in 2060, so that the other detectives and the medical examiner's office are not familiar with gunshot wounds. But the entire story could have been written without the paranormal element supposedly being there, or set in any year in the modern era, and would have been almost exactly the same.
The second story in the book is a Regency romance, with a brief modern frame around it, and about the only paranormal element is the "magic coin" upon which our protagonists in the Regency era, and then our protagonist in the modern era, make wishes. Since I like the Regency era, I actually enjoyed this story more than the J.D. Robb story that called my attention to the book; the Regency story is a better representative of its kind than the Robb is of its series. It may be a disappointment to some because the paranormal element is so small; if you are thinking to buy this book because you are specifically interested in paranormal phenomena, you probably won't find enough here to be satisfying.
In short, by having people who usually write in specific subgenres and specific time periods try to add something paranormal to their stories, it lowers the quality of both the period pieces and the paranormal elements.

Book Description
Get ready for the second invasion of Little Miss and Little Mr. Men! That's right - those zany, pint-sized characters are back. Easy enough for young readers and witty enough for adults! Mr. Bump stumbles upon the perfect job!
Customer Reviews:
You gotta love Mr. Bump.......2004-09-06
If you have an accident-prone person in your life, this is the perfect gift. Poor Mr. Bump is always bumping into everything, and he can't keep a job because he is always breaking things. The story of all the many jobs he has had is very amusing, and you will love the job he discovers he would be best at in the end. Mr. Men and Little Miss books are fun for kids of all ages.
Poor Mr Bump.......2004-05-13
I grew up with these fun little books. I loved them so much, I used to carry at least one round with me wherever I went. It's nice to see that the Mr Men series is still around for little kids and their parents to enjoy.
Mr Bump is an accident prone guy. He's always breaking things or getting himself stuck. He can't get a job because he's always getting into trouble. He doesn't mean to, but he tends to have accidents whether he likes it or not. Will he find the job that's right for him?
The book has very colourful, cute illustrations. I remember as a kid thinking that even though Mr Bump had lots of accidents, he still had a nice, friendly town to live in. Roger Hargreaves' writing is easy for little kids to understand, while still often witty for the grown-up reader reading it to them. In a way, kids might be able to relate to Mr Bump, having lots of accidents and getting in trouble, even though he doesn't mean to.
I'd recommend this for any young children. If they enjoyed this book even half as much as I did when I was little, then it will have been well worth the purchase.
A Steadfast Tale.......2001-07-18
Mr Bump, quite frankly, is a clod. He can't seem to do anything without injuring himself or others. How can he get by in life with such a predilection for mayhem? Read it and see. Great for both children and adults.
Mr. Bump does it again!.......2000-06-16
Mr. Bump has a problem. He is always getting into accidents, bumping into anything and everything in his way! Although his bumpingdilemma causes him lots of problems in holding a job, after a not-so-bump-free vacation Mr. Bump realizes the perfect job for him. You'll have to read the book to find out Mr. Bump's job niche. This a clever little book great for all ages to teach the lesson that there's a bright side to every situation.
Mr. Bump.......2000-06-16
One of the delightful books in the Mr. Men series by Roger Hargreaves. Mr. Bump is one of the best. His trials and tribulations come about from his seemingly innate tendency to get into accidents. Bumping into anything and everything in his way! Although this problem causes him some problems in finding a job, after a not-so-quiet vacation to the beach, Mr. Bump realizes the solution to his job problem. To find out his ideal job you'll just have to read the book yourself. Great for kids and for kids at heart as are all the Mr. Men books!

Jack Molloy goes by the name of Jammer at the Vegas casino where he hosts muckamucks and sports stars for debauched evenings in Sin City. When arranging escorts (code word: nannies) for married men, he assures his clients of airtight evenings--safe from wives or pressure. Hookups happen in the deluxe penthouse, and Molloy orchestrates everything down to the last detail: "The only guys working the floor would be from my own Casino Host staff. Jammers in training, I called them. I'd also have alibis set up in advance, around the golf and the gambling and the fight, even a log I could produce if I had to."
The casino is called Amazing Grace, and Jack feels saved working there: his job is fantastically easy and he makes great money. But his brilliant career is cut short when his father dies. Dad was one of the richest men in the country, and owner of the New York Hawks football team. Although father and son have been estranged for years, ownership of the team is left to Jack in the will. So Jack leaves his role as Jammer and becomes an owner in the NFL.
Unsurprisingly, corruption in the NFL makes Vegas look like church. This is a world of serious lowlifes: crooked managers, players who know how to pass any drug test no matter how blotto they are, a prima donna quarterback with an endless rap sheet. Jack tries to navigate and watch his back, and when he's in need, he calls on his Vegas cronies. Mike Lupica (best known as a columnist for the New York Daily News) is a swift, funny, and eminently macho writer. Various characters in Bump and Run bring to mind Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday. But where Stone makes football into a symbol of the American soul, Lupica--even as he indicts the surreal world of big sports business--never loses track of the fact that it's only an absurd, neck-breaking pageant. --Ellen Williams
Book Description
"Uproariously funny." (Elmore Leonard)
"Captures the beer-and-blood flavor of the NFL." (Entertainment Weekly)
"Deliciously wicked...Reminiscent of North Dallas Forty and Semi-Tough." (Publishers Weekly)
Only a sportswriter like Mike Lupica could write a pigskin satire as fast, funny, and fiercely entertaining as Bump & Run-in which a Las Vegas "jammer" takes a gamble on the wildest, wooliest team in the NFL.
"Truly hip, uproariously funny, and my God, it might even be true. Bump & Run places Lupica high up among the funniest guys writing fiction." (Elmore Leonard)
"Even if you don't give a rat's *ss for professional football, you should read this savagely hilarious novel."(Pete Hamill)
"Outrageous, opinionated, and most important, funny as hell." (Phil Simms, CBS Sports, Super Bowl-winning quarterback, New York Giants)
Customer Reviews:
lack of imagination.......2003-11-13
I have two of Lupica's books, acquired after seeing him touted on the Don Imlus show. This one I got through the other one I had to quit. His writing style bothers me in that his character development, plot and story line are mediocre to poor. ...
A solid support for a lightweight story........2003-08-29
Lupica's ability as a sportswriter serve him well in this slightly odd and occasionally humorous look at the NFL. Lupica excels at exposing the current state of the game with its out of control players and the bizarre world they inhabit. The thinly veiled references to current celebrities and players is fun to read, but the story itself, about a prodigal sun taking over his father's franchise, is not particularly intriguing and the ending is extremely predictable. A good page turner for the beach or the plane, but not something that will stick with you.
Thoroughly enjoyable look at the NFL and NY........2003-06-17
This was my first experience reading Mike Lupica. I enjoyed everything about the book. I passed it out to several of my friends. They all agreed it was a page burner with memorable characters.
Lupica has a sarcastic NY wit which is perfectly developed through his characters. The fictional characters are thinly disguised. I felt that I was reading a funny non-fiction account of the NFL.
I would highly recommend this book to any sports junkie.
A Funny Satire.......2003-04-23
A friend recommended me this book because she believed it was simply a satirical look at the crazy world of sports. She was right. And sadly, that's all it is.
Lupica's modernistic approach to writing is at some times refreshing but for at least most of this book, takes away from potentially what could have been a better plot with funnier characters.
This book is an excellent weekend read for anyone looking for a few chuckles, but is certainly not worth the investment at face value. (However, I would recommend buying the bargain price now offered.)
The NFL According to Lupica.......2002-10-29
Professional sports at the NFL level are so full of people as are depicted in this book that I was tempted to look at it as a very funny work of non-fiction. It is populated with characters - funny ones - serious ones - dangerous ones - stupid ones and many very curvy ones. As usual, Mike has an ear for how people in this genre carry themselves and while the plot of the story - whether or not Jammer Molloy, son of the owner of the New York Hawks will be allowed to become an owner of the team after his daddy dies and leaves it to him, is never in serious doubt, it is the "how" of making this happen that is entertaining and not "whether.". No one writes this kind of book better than Mike Lupica. At least not yet!

fun NASCAR romance .......2007-05-09
In the NASCAR Nextel Cup, Gabby O'Farrell has proven competitive although she has not yet won her first race at that level. She has won one time on the NASCAR Busch series, but never at the superbowl level, which is her dream and her socially prominent mother's nightmare.
However, ignoring her mother to compete against the best is one thing even though some think she got the opportunity because her dad, CEO of O'Farrell Industries. However ignoring her feelings for bit boss Vaughn Steiner is much more difficult. She wants him in the worst way and even loves his daughter Stephanie. Unbeknownst to her Vaughn knows how much he cares every time she is on the track as his heart collapses whenever a car is near, which means throughout a race. Winning may prove not enough for this duo to succeed as a couple.
This fun NASCAR romance stars a lead couple who readers will like as they try to remain professional in spite of a deep attraction between them. The racing sequences directly add to the romance as incidents occur on the track that sends Vaughn into male protective mode for the woman he loves. Though her mom and Stephanie's grandmother are nasty characters with no redeeming traits, readers will enjoy Ken Casper's fine spin around the track.

Book Description
Though burlesque has survived in the back of our cultural consciousness after being pushed aside by modern stripping in the '50s, the revival that began in the early '90s has finally brought burlesque back to the forefront of popular culture.
Evolving from an underground movement to a nearly mainstream fetish, neo-burlesque embraces a wide variety of modern interpretations all based on the classic bump and grind and "taking it off" with a wink and a smile. From classic tributes to punk rock revisionists, women of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds are rediscovering burlesque and reinventing it. A sense of heightened imagination, empowerment and energy are being delivered to the stage, perhaps even more so than during the historic heyday, the Golden Age of Burlesque.
Slipping behind the scene, Burlesque and the New Bump-n-Grind undresses the issues of feminism, modern popularity, and what exactly draws the unique and varied audience members to the shows. The women-and men!-of burlesque also receive their fleshed-out dues by a categorized peek into the various troupe styles including classical, re-creationists, revivalists, modern, circus, performance art, political, queer, bawdy singers and comics.
Peppered throughout the book are full-color and black-and-white photographs that fully instill the picturesque dance into the reader's mind.
Founder of one of the first neo-burlesque troupes, author Michelle Baldwin (a.k.a, Vivienne Va-Voom) has helped to bring the lost art of burlesque back to the forefront of pop culture. Baldwin has served as the creative director, choreographer, music director, costumer, financial head, and performer for her troupe, "Burlesque As It Was." Her deep immersion into this art form has provided her with a rare view into the growth and evolution of the revival.
Customer Reviews:
New Burlesque Represents!.......2006-06-07
I may be biased, since I appear in this book, but if I weren't proud to be a part of it I wouldn't recommend it!
Michelle does a wonderful job of describing the energy and glamour of the New Burlesque scene, with tons of color photographs to emphasize the passion this rediscovered art inspires. While striptease, even retro striptease, is nothing new, the current New Burlesque scene brings it into a fresh environment where the performances take on a new meaning and a new sense of pure joy. Whether you're a fan of girls who make you wriggle or girls who make you giggle, you'll love the performances of the ladies in this book--and the gentlemen, too!
Absolutely Delicious.......2004-09-14
Not only does this book serve as delicious eye candy, but the author does an amazing job interlacing facts with true experiences capturing the crazed phenomenon of burlesque revival. I really admire the energy that comes across in Baldwin's writing it makes me want to go out and try it! I would recommend this to all of you feminists out there who also like showing a little leg.
a worthy topic, but not the comprehensive guide it could be.......2004-09-03
As a costuming student, amateur burlesque researcher, and preformer, I was excited to see someone devote a book exclusively to new burlesque. The book has some cute pictures and a few quotes from some of the rising stars of the scene, but unfortunately, the overall content is shallow and the structure is jumbled. The format of the text is too jumpy to really provide a reader with a timeline and often repeats itself. Some rigorous cutting-and-pasting would have helped immesely on that front, but the more suble deficiency is the lack of academic analysis or critical commentary. It reads like a high school book report, merely stating facts and names, but not tying them together. Almost anyone could have researched and written this book by simply looking at a few burlesque troupes' websites. In fact, I wonder if that is what happened.
Until a more thorough text is published, get your history lessons from reviews in journals and magazines; the recent media blitz has got you covered. As for images, almost all the new burlesques soloists and troupes have lovely websites with gorgeous studio portraits and fun live snapshots.
Yowza@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-07-21
Burlesque
Sexy, hot and very feminine!
This book could have been written by a history professor but it has a certain panache that can only say Michelle Baldwin has felt what burlesque was and IS!
Glamor! Showwomanship! Laughter! Burlesque is entertainment, glitz and glamor!
The greatest showwomen of the 20s - the 70s - knew how to use it and really get people interested and excited.
Burlesque- intelligent, sexy, rowdy & fun!
Want to connect with herstory and what's going on now? Glamor! Fashion! art! comedy! glitz! what a wondeful world!
and catch Michelle in person (I did at the Tattered Cover LODO in Denver - the Professor of everything wonderful! She's smart, she's educated! and she can really make you want to enjoy all that is Burlesque~ ) Wow! Incredible! What a total turn-on! A joy for every Girl & Boy!
Neo-Burlesque - all that is Sexy, Women and FUN!
Cheers,

shocking, tantalizing and conquering ...........2004-07-02
Reviewed by: John A. Mangarella for Small Spiral Notebook
When author Michelle Baldwin found her way into Denver's Mercury Café to see her first burlesque show, a career was not only born but the first lines of this delightful study of burlesque took shape. The is not just a book, it's the best type of book, a time machine back to the last century when English actress Lydia Thompson toured the U.S.A., shocking, tantalizing and conquering the American stage.
Baldwin's meticulous research, her obvious affection for burlesque, both legendary and contemporary, compels every page of this book to dance before the reader's eyes with a history of women who were not only ahead of their time but stole the heart of America at every whistle-stop. From the crowds that mobbed the Chicago World's Fair ogling the notorious Little Egypt through the advent of Mae West as she descends on Broadway with her first show, provocatively entitled "SEX". This book packs a lot of fast facts that peel away with the ease of silk clothing dropping to the stage floor.
She presents the burlesque of comedy and song, of variety acts and supple curves. From the hootchy kootchy dancers of the 1890's through Sam Scribner's Columbia Wheel, the sexually censored main circuit of burlesque houses that competed with the wild ride of the Minsky Brothers who founded stock burlesque troops and rented inexpensive theaters in poor neighborhoods that boasted cheap tickets and expensive sizzle. Eventually, Minsky's rise caused the powerful but restrictive Scribner to stop censoring his shows by allowing nudity and blue humor.
Ms. Baldwin's anecdotal choices are fascinating. Who invented the modern striptease? Was it Mae Dix in 1917 who accidentally removed her collars and cuffs to ignite the audience into pure wildness? Or was it Hinda Wassau who was pushed onto the stage half dressed by a stage manager? Or was it... read it for yourself-where the clothing falls is tantalizing. You can almost hear the brassy music rising from the orchestra pit as mentions of Gypsy Rose Lee, Sally Rand, Ann Corio and Georgia Sothern form their own girl shows and take them on the road. Even though they danced in Middle America, in small theaters and carnivals, they filled every seat and brought cosmopolitan glamour to venues that were way, way, way, way off Broadway. The author covers burlesque's high popularity as well as its low periods when threatened by repressive times as well as a new breed of strippers that are somewhat hardcore. Even though burlesque overcame censorship its toughest battle was with an era that was much more permissive. This is where Ms. Baldwin's book separates as provocatively as Sally Rand's fans. A major portion of "Burlesque" is devoted to "The New Bump-N-Grind" and all those suggestively creative performers that have successfully picked up the mantle of Gypsy Rose Lee, Ann Corio and other legends to show us what IS burlesque today.
Ms. Baldwin relates the resurgence of burlesque with even more passion because she's living it, thus endowing the second part of the book with a "You Are There" style that really does allow the reader to tour with all the contemporary performers. Jennie Lee, known as "The Bazoom Girl" in her heyday began assembling her massive collection of burlesque memorabilia on a goat farm in the California desert. Following Miss Lee's death, Dixie Evans, a fellow dancer who is a stunning Marilyn Monroe look-alike, began transforming the memorabilia into a museum. Dixie Evans also started the Miss Exotic World Competition which has drawn larger crowds each successive year. She also wrote the forward to this book.
"Burlesque And The New Bump-N-Grind" stems from the past and blossoms in the present and future. Ms. Baldwin's chore at describing the world of burlesque as it is today encompasses hundreds of entertainers and dozens of festivals and shows. Make no mistake about it, as this amply photographed book demonstrates, today's burlesque is every bit as sexy, funny, risque, respectable, wicked and addictive as the movements of Gypsy Rose Lee or Ann Corio or any of the great acts from decades gone by. The sumptuous photographs indicate that these new women of burlesque have taken some of their inspiration from the past. There are exquisite costumes reminiscent of the Ziegfield Follies, something to remind us of Weimar Berlin and Marlene Dietrich's The Blue Angel. There are costumes from the Silent Era and later Hollywood as well as some from the Old West. Ms. Baldwin covers all the ground, touching off on some of the men performing baggy pants comedy as well the bands that put some blood pressure into the music as the women bump-n-grind.
In quoting a paragraph from the book about contemporary burlesque's allure: "Modern glamour is the sleek, sexy aesthetic of technology. Everything from the ultrathin models featured on magazine covers to the tiniest cell phone to the most unobtrusive stereo speaker sets the pace of modern life. Burlesque glamour, on the other hand, is larger than life, filled with innuendo, and coated with glitter. Burlesque offers something different than the standard mass-produced culture. In burlesque, girls can have curves, often big curves. They can be loud and funny and still be sex symbols. The basic elements of burlesque are things that are missing from contemporary life."
"Burlesque And The New Bump-N-Grind" teases and pleases. On a historic level, Michelle Baldwin's book should be a welcome addition to any writer's research library because of the many different areas of burlesque she covers. As for just pure fun, a bit of skin that reveals a heart much more naked, "Burlesque And The New Bump-N-Grind" is a very pleasurable read. Buy the book, and then check out the listing of websites advertising shows all across the country. Then buy yourself a ticket and go have some fun.

When life is not going well at all--this is the book!.......2007-08-21
Over the years since I received a copy of this book in 1983 as I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I have given away numerous copies because I felt the other person needed it. I
t is the only book I know that encourages without "happy get all better" stuff. Some diseases or situations really cannot be expected to have a happy ending, but that is when encouragement is most needed. If I could give it 10 stars--I would.
Great metaphor!.......2007-01-04
Great message. Loving the mountains and hiking, I was drawn to the title immediately. Having a boys' ranch, I see alot of discouragment in young men's lives. This is a great devotional book for guys of all ages. This book is full of encouragment and great life lessons.
Yet another great book by WWW.......2006-02-12
His books have been in my collection of favorites for years. I ordered this one months ago and have been reading a chapter once a week as an extra devotional. He uses scripture to parallel life experiences and balances it out with encouragement for all sorts of perils in this walk of faith we all take daily. This book is a pick me up when I have had a troubling day. Its a dash of salt when I have missed my communion with God on rushed days. You don't just sit down at an empty table with this book. WWW brings you to the table where he seats you next to Christ and you are in absolute communion with the Lord Most high. Great literature for anyone regardless of where their walk is with Christ.
Just What I Needed!.......2005-10-09
You can't go wrong with a book by Warren W. Wiersbe! He surely has a gift for delivering God's messages, quoting appropriate scripture references, and writing clearly so you understand and can apply what you've learned to your own life. I can't wait to order two of his other books: Praise, Promises & Prayers and With The Word.
Truly encouraging and uplifting read anytime of the day ! .......2005-07-05
Really enjoyed this booklet of 30 uplifting messages biblically sound and inspired - Wiersbe 's style is simplistic yet so engaging to read and ponder, a good read any time of the day to bless and encourage your heart - little golden nuggets of Word of Truth. God Bless

Customer Reviews:
The PMTS in this book really works........2007-07-07
I read this book many times in the last few years. I learn something new everytime. The PMTS in this book helped me move beyond the "wedge" which stops beginners from improving. I wish all ski instructors teach the PMTS.
Follow up to yellow book.......2007-04-08
Not as revolutionary as the first, but a must have for all skiers.
Get it. Watch the video. Go skiing. Have fun.
Probably the best instructional DVD available.......2006-09-10
This DVD (book) is great for any intermediate/advanced skier wanting to improve. I think that this DVD is even better than Lito Tejada Flores's DVDs. It is hard to say, I watched Lito's DVD before this.
This is way cheaper and way better than a one hour on the slopes instruction !!! And you can improve off-season just by watching the DVD |:)).
Excellent book for expert skiers.......2006-04-18
This book is essential if you want to learn the PMTS system which Harald Harb created. I would recommend that you do that. This is a book for experts and assumes you already have learned to ski, but it would be very useful even if you are a new skier. Just realize that it won't teach you how to snowplow or stem-christi. The ski season is over now (April 06) and I got this too late to use it for 05-06. But, I can tell you that this book is very well presented. Without it I would have had a very hard time understanding how to carve my skis using this technique or understanding why I wouldn't want to make some mistakes that would not be obvious. Important details are revealed in the book that I have found nowhere else. The DVD that comes with the book is a powerful presentation that follows the book's format. The DVD shows some excellent examples of how to do exercises and how to actually ski the technique. It contains demonstrations of using the technique in many types of difficult terrain. This includes bumps which I am particularly interested in where carving is an especially difficult task. I was already aware of this system from several other sources. Without this book, I doubt that I would ever have been able to do it correctly. The book and the DVD work very well together.
Great method-- but HH could use an Editor........2006-02-08
I read Anyone Can Be An Expert Skier 1 and also had the DVD. There was no question as to whether I should get this second volume. I have to say, this season I've decided to stick with one learning method and PMTS is it. And this season, I'm skiing better than ever. I've even had the opportunity to ski with one of Mr. Harb's colleagues and be taught the method firsthand as well. I can say, it's even simpler than it looks in the books.
I found the more I perfect Harb's PMTS method, the more effortless, efficient, and confident my skiing. With much less muscle strain and more control.
This is my one gripe about both books, however (and their DVDs). For a teaching method that is supposed to target and improve the beginner-intermediate and advanced-intermediate alike, Mr. Harb's presenation is highly academic and wordy. I understand that he wants to be comprehensive about the method. Understood. However, reading through both books (ACES II is less of an offender) sometimes feels like reading through a Boeing 767 Engineering manual.
The way the chapters are presented and the sections titled hardly differentiates one from the other. Even in the first book, the names of some sections were only different by one word out of four. Then very simple moves would be described repeatedly, redundantly, and ad nauseum, proving him the King of Overstatement. I often wondered while reading, "Couldn't HH have devised more memorable lesson names for the lessons than (e.g.) 'Inside Foot to Little Toe Edge'?"
These are all very simple moves. They shouldn't have been so complicated and confusing to comprehend. I wonder if I would have been able to grasp it at all had I not had some live (albeit informal) instruction from a PMTS pro.
I don't think Mr. Harb should worry that his PMTS method is so simple it would make too short of a book otherwise-- he includes so much other fantastic information on gear and conditioning that he could have cut the PMTS lessons copy to be more reader-friendly.
I think Mr. Harb once nailed simplicity in his initial DVD, when he simply professed, "Release, Transfer, Engage." Other than that, he succeeded in confusing the heck out me many times by overstating principles and jumping topic instead of focusing on simplifying RTE movements one at a time.
One thing I do love is the cheat sheets you can tear out and bring with you on the slopes. These are ingenius, and shows how much HH wants to teach us great skiing. In fact, I don't know how any other ski book or video has gotten along without something similar. HH answered a common dilemma for me, who looks at many skiing videos: How do you remember the lessons from a book or video to actually practicing on-slope?
Perhaps HH should have used the cheat sheets as a starting point for the book chapters-- they're much simpler and broken down much more logically.
I think once you read and re-read the book and live with it for a while, get used to HH's lengthy method of presentation and simplify it yourself, this is the only ski instruction you may ever need. Unfortunately I wish Mr. Harb did the simplifying for us in advance.
I still highly recommend for anyone who wants to get out of the Intermediate Rut.
