Almost perfect deal.......2007-10-03
Should I judge this collection by price or quality? I'll try to blend them. At the time of this writing, I ordered it from Amazon for $89.70, which was marked down from $299. Sounds hard to believe, and after owning it, it still is. At this price, this is, without doubt, a major, total, complete deal. However, I give it four stars instead of five because it is 99% of Shakespeare's complete works. Why not include the rest? Why, why, why? It'd take two more volumes, one for his non-sonnet poems and one for THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN, which is now officially part of the Shakespeare canon. It's very easy to get these works, but they wouldn't match your 38-volume set. Still, at anything less than $100, this set is a steal, especially considering that buying all these plays even as used paperbacks would probably cost more, and these are new, 8.5" by 5.5" hardcovers. Call me a nitpicker, but I just don't get why this collection didn't go that extra half-yard. Still, I bought it anyway and am very happy with it.
As for supplements, each book has a basic intro and meanings of archaic words and phrases printed at the bottom of each page.
Super deal! Great investment........2007-09-02
I read the other reviews about this being a great deal for what you're getting. Took a chance....and they were right. After visiting London this summer and realizing I'm literary-deficient, my goal was to read all of Shakespeare's plays once I got home. So I needed a starter set. For $90, I have just that. And much easier to manage that a huge compilation book that I was considering. The book covers are simple, but elegant. Just the right size--easy to carry in my bag to work. I'm very happy with the set--it is a good investment.
The Value Purchase of the Year.......2007-09-01
This is an excellent edition, the volumes are extremely nice to read: larger and clearer than paperbacks; handier, lighter and much easier to handle than one-volume editions. It's the buy of the year. You'll never forgive yourself if you let this slip away. It's a cliche, but true in the case: I would have bought it at twice this price and considered myself lucky.
GREAT value. .......2007-08-08
I bought this as a gift for my partner as a graduation present. It is a REALLY great deal: I can't believe how cheap it is for what you get.
The quality of the books is really high, the paper is lovely stock and the binding is excellent. All in all, this is a really wonderful product and definetely worth forking out the cash for. When you think about it, it's an absolute steal.
Do it!
ps. it arrived REALLY quickly. I am in Australia and it was here within 7 working days (i paid for the mid range postal option, whatever it is called).
Glad I Bought These Volumes.......2007-05-15
The reviews encouraged me to buy this series, and I'm very glad I did. I've read a number of different Shakespeare editions; my favorite had been the Folger. But these books are luxurious, and comparing one to a Folger proves the quality of the paper and the clear, easy-to-read text. At the $89 price - and even higher - these volumes are a rare bargain.

Graphic Designers need to buy.......2007-09-02
Fantastic!!! Just the Color book is worth the price. Every thing in here is a nice simple direction for designers. The information is great if you ever get stumped as to where to begin with any project. Plus it comes in a nice case to keep it all in. A fantastic resource.
Excellent Reference and Resource Combination of Books.......2007-08-23
Though the clasped plexiglass box is quite comely and altogether unnecessary, the contents are well worth the price. I am an independent Graphic Designer and have found these little gems to be of great value not only with ideas but also for technical guidance as well. Don't let their small physical size fool you, every page is packed with helpful info. Plus they have durable vinyl covers and are small enough to take with you and throw in a bag or purse if you want. Krause is a master of design and you'll find a lot of food for thought here.
A great design tool. .......2007-07-16
Just like writers, designers get "designer's block" these books are great for browsing and sparking new ideas. The color index has both CMYK and RGB values, and is great for finding new color combinations. The Idea Index is great for inspriation, and the layout index is great reminder that not all layouts have to be 8.5x11.
Great designer's resource. I highly recommend this boxed set.
Take the plunge.......2007-06-27
After borrowing my friend's book of color designs for nearly a year while redecortating my house, I finally took the plunge and bought the boxed set. I use the colors book the most, but the other two also have interesting combinations and design ideas. They are full of need to know information including how to be aware of what you are saying or emphasizing with your layouts. Wonderfully put together, these books will be useful to the beginner or the ultra experienced. And they come in their own cool box.
midget books for tiny minds.......2007-05-28
These books are so tiny they remind me of a certain appendage of my X husband dennis, and they are just too tiny to take seriously too just like him. They do come in a cute plastic case, but my X husband would use a sock.
Customer Reviews:
A "MUST HAVE" for any Botanical Art Enthusiast or Artist.......2002-11-26
This book, illustrated by Marilena Pistoia, is an invaluable addition to the library of botanical artists or lovers of botanical art. There are 110 paintings depicting 400 plants, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices...all beautifully painted and reproduced. Some of the fruits are so realistic they almost make your mouth water.
The composition and combinations of the fruits and vegetables used in the individual paintings is very imaginative and complimentary in shape, form and colors.
I bought it for the illustrations but the text is very interesting and informative as well, often giving little know facts about the edible plants in our world. It is not a science book...the entertaining text is the perfect compliment to the beauty of the highly accurate and colorful representations of the paintings.

Customer Reviews:
If you are only buying one metalworking book............2007-09-09
There are a lot of great books on the market for metalsmiths and jewelry makers but this is one of the best. If you are going to buy one book, make this the one. Even if you are going to buy a bunch of books, this is the perfect first one.
The Complete Metalsmith by Tim McCreight is the bible for metalworking. It is written as a technical reference book covering physical properties of different metals, basic instructions for almost every jewelry making technique imaginable, and even great extras like basic plans for a jeweler's bench that can easily be modified to fit your space and needs. Just about every tool and piece of equipment imaginable is covered with a good description of basic use and an illustrations. Issues of safety are also thoroughly covered.
This is not a pretty book full of full color glossy photos. It is not a detailed project book. But it is a great reference book for your bench. If you need simple basic instructions on any technique or tool, it's a great place to look. Tim McCreight is one of the leading authorities on metalsmithing and jewelry making in the country (maybe in the world), so his instructions are accurate and easy to follow.
This book is designed to be used at the bench. The hard cover is covered in a very durable canvas-like material. It has a heavy spiral binding enabling it to lay flat on the work bench.
This is definitely the best first book for your collection if you are just learning metal working and jewelry making. Even if you have been at it for a while, it is a great book to have in your collection for when you want to expand into a new technique.
Definitely a must have!
Review of Complete Metalsmith book.......2007-09-08
Excellent book, great information, etc. I bought this used and I am very satisfied.
Complete metalsmithing.......2007-09-01
A must have reference for everyone interested in making jewelry or working with metals. Very thorough!
Complete Metalsmith, Professional Edition.......2007-08-15
This is a great book, just like everyone has said, however you need to know some of the basics to truely understand the information. I am a newbie to metalsmithing and eager to learn, but this book is way over my head right now. In the future it will be a great reference book.
bound to fall apart.......2007-05-19
Informative book, design makes the functionality not so great. The spiral binding routinely releases the pages from its binding. Frustrating....I do like the rubber band that attempts to counter act this problem.

Home Improvement Book.......2007-08-15
A great closing gift for a home buyer. Get them started on the right foot! Easy to understand
A little bit of everything, not much of anything..........2007-05-26
The problem with books such as these is that they do not always provide enough detail to really help you get the job done. This results in your having to buy additional books to supplement your knowledge.
In my case, I am currently remodeling my kitchen. I have never done this kind of work before; BUT, I figure that I am reasonably bright so I can learn as I go, right? I purchsed this book as it seemed to provide just about the best general reference out there.
As I mentioned above, though, it does not always provide a great deal of detail. The section on hanging drywall, for example, does not cover the subject with enough depth to teach an amateur how to do it cleanly and neatly. You will likely have to buy a specific drywall book for more information. Ditto for the section on windows, laying tile, etc.
The one subject so far that did seem to contain enough detail to get the job done was the section on wiring. I was able to add several outlets (and I have never done this kind of thing before) with the aid of this book alone.
I give it 4 stars as it serves it's purpose (an overview on home renovation) admirably. If you really want to learn these things in detail, though, you may want to look at the Black and Decker "Complete" how to books. In fact, this book appears to be a kind of "greatest hits" of the single subject books. Wide, but not deep.
Novice Reference.......2007-05-16
This book is a super resource for anyone who wants to do home improvement, but knows little or nothing about the process. Lots of photos with technical terminology enable the novice to communicate with the pros.
Black & Decker is the king of home improvement books..........2007-03-08
This book continues the excellence in the line of the Black and Decker series of "Photo Guide" books. No other book comes close to providing the quantity and quality of photos. The photos are clear and much better at communicating the task then standard illustrations. Every project is detailed with a handful of photos.
Great book. Great to have on the shelf as a reference book. Awesome book for first-time home owners that want to have a handle on do-it-yourself projects.
Best home improvement book for pros and novices.......2007-01-11
I find this book excellent due to the simple directions, tips, and photos and drawings that are clear enough so the reader can see all the details. Some improvement books have illustrations that leave you scratching your head in confusion.

Essential.......2007-10-05
This is the one book I would not be without.
It is very informative and helpful.
I am a soapmaker and use the information re: the essential oils to make aromatheray and therapuetic, skin softening soaps.
too general.......2005-10-10
Gives uses for many plants and the essential oils but no complete details for making the remedies with the oils. Eg. how much of each oil to put into the natural remedies?
Encyclopedia of Essential Oils.......2005-08-17
The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils is a wonderful book to add to a collection of knowledge of Aromatherapy. It contains very detailed properties of each essential oil - easy to understand and great for reference for all to read, learn and practice. If you can't find what you are looking for specifically for an essential oil, you will most definately find it in this book.
Your Aromatherapy library is not complete if you don't have the book.......2005-08-03
If I had to have only two books in my Aromatherapy Library, this would be one of them, along with The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy, by Salvatore Battaglia. I have been an Aromatherapist since 2003, I know - a relatively short time - but a productive time, and I could not have accomplished what I have without this book. It is a very complete list - if not the best list - of essential oils available in book form, with all their properties, chemical breakdown, methods of extraction, history, ancient uses for the plants and oils, modern uses, toxicity and as if this wasn't enough - the photos are marvolous and extremely helpful in identifying plants and the oil colour. Every plant gets a whole page and the format repeats and is so easy to follow. What makes this book stand out among its peers is the ease of use with an excellent index, glossary of terms, botanical index, botanical classification and references (just because a book has these thing doesn't mean they are always good or useful).
The most toxic of essential oils, which are hardly mention in other books , or, we are merely warned to stay away from for aromatherapy use, are also covered in Ms. Lawlwess' book, and I am glad for that because I want to know the "why" of everything. Why is it bad? After all - this is meant as a reference book, not a "how to". It is one of the most important books on essential oils and you are cheating yourself not to have a copy. I don't know if Ms. Julia Lawless is alive, and if she is, when she will come out with an updated version, but I sure hope so.
Illustrated Encylopedia of Essential Oils.......2005-08-02
I love the wonderful pictures and illustrations. This book is great and will get let you see the physical properties of herbs and oils. Great reference guide.

Very useful material.......2007-09-15
Extremely useful set of forms and ideas for use in the restaurant industry. It is skewed towards full service restaurants; but still has lots of useful stuff to apply to QSR. Do not expect to find a treatise on training, though. The CD ROM helps to take advantage of the material because it has the full text on pdf format and several of the sections in MS-Word format.
Easily tailored forms and a must for any food service operation.......2007-03-16
Douglas Robert Brown's excellent reference tool is worth every penny and should be in every food service operator's reference library. I have recommended his book for my tea students for the last five years and am pleased to endorse the revised media. From the small tearoom owner to the chain restaurant, Mr. Brown's resource is a valuable tool. Carnelian Rose Tea - Tea Business School - Jennifer Petersen

Nice for the price.......2007-07-29
Let's face it, there are better editions of Shakespeare out there. You get what you pay for. This is not a top of the line leather edition. For the price, though, you can't beat it. It is what it is, a reasonably priced leather edition of his complete works. No household should be without one.
Works of William Shakespeare.......2007-01-21
This was a gift for our son, who appreciated having all of Shakespeare's works in one attractive volume.
Excellent.......2007-01-09
This is a great compilation of Shakespeare's work. This beautifully bound tome has proven to be a great resource for me, a future English major.
Excellent Quality for the price.......2006-08-13
Very nice edition, highly quality finish and binding. The pages are standard re-production for Shakespeare issues - but overall it is excellent value for money and is attractively bound. For those who want 'notes' and 'critiques' - look elsewhere. It is as described - a leather bound edition of the complete works of Shakespeare. I love it! Thank you Amazon USA, you cant get this edition in the UK.
Excelent.......2006-07-10
What can I say? Shakespeare is the man. For any of you who love shakespeare, or just need a good reference for class; this book is amazing... not only that but you will look really intelligent if you have a thick leather bound shakespeare book on your bookshelf haha

Customer Reviews:
Great Resource.......2007-09-02
Dr. Bernstein's book is a very good resource.
He states he has been diabetic since age 12 and became a doctor to advocate for other diabetics. The book is very good guide for anyone facing this illness.
Newly Diagnosed Diabetic Looking For Information.......2007-08-23
This book takes all the 'pleasure' out of being a diabetic. It gives a good primer on the basics of diabetes. Then it departs from much of the convention of diabetes treatment in terms of diet. Basically, Dr. Bernstein advocates a diet devoid of almost all carbohydrates (he "hasn't had a piece of fruit in 40 years"). His advice is based on techniques he has refined over 40+ years and they have obviously worked very well for him, a Type 1 diabetic who went much of his early life improperly treated. That he is still alive today is a testament to his regimen's efficacy. However, it is a truly Draconian approach that essentially strips most food-based pleasure from your life. Also, he advocates regular, strenuous exercise to build muscles (building muscles reduces insulin resistance). He is less interested in aerobic exercise, although he acknowledges its cardiovascular benefits if practiced strenuously (not a jog, but a demanding pace that begins (on a treadmill) at a slope that exhausts you in 20 seconds, then lowering the slope and continuing, etc). As in the anerobic exercise, he warns against rest periods. The idea is only through pain do you build muscles including those of the heart. I found the book very informative, but his techniques very scary. As an almost 70-year old man, I'm not sure I'm equal to his demanding regimen. I bet it works; but I don't know how much pleasure you'll get from living all those extra years if you're constantly craving starches and rest.
Dr. Bernstein is GREAT!!!.......2007-08-23
Dr. Bernstein is a type 1 diabetic and had just about every sympton possible. He figured out the "diabetes code" and clearly explains how to control your diabetes. His cure is exactly opposite to that of the medical establishment. He was educated as an engineer, then became a medical doctor late in life. His book is designed to educate and not to impress how smart he is. Buy it.

Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution Rocks !.......2007-08-09
Dr. Bernstein has researched and developed the most sensible approach to controlling blood sugar in both Type I and Type II diabetics that I have ever encountered.
My Little Girl Needs her Daddy.......2007-07-29
Unlike the ADA advice my doctor and the diabetes educators gave me, this book works.
I have normal blood sugars, my cholesterol and triglycerides are normal again, and I am no longer spilling protein in my urine.
I have lost 70 pounds and kept it off.
My A1C results at 4.8% are very much in the non-diabetic range.
Better than all that, I can feel my feet again.
I had diabetic neuropathy that made my feet numb and I did not even realize it before.
With my blood sugars staying between 80 and 100, the feeling has been returning to my feet and the numbness is fading.
Dr. B, my little girl will thank you when she is old enough to understand that you saved her daddy's life!

sew-sew.......2007-06-05
Although this is a well produced book with lots of lovely pictures, the instructions are lacking for a beginner such as myself. Superfically flicking through the book it looks great, it's only when you sit down and need to do something that you find that this book doesn't equip you with enough explanation of the terms and skills needed to allow you to complete a simple sewing task.
It promises much, but it lacks thorough, simple and clear explanations and a beginner will still need other resources to learn how to sew basic things.
I don't know who this book is targeted at, as it isn't for the beginner, yet the concepts it covers really are basic and I doubt experienced sewers would get much out of this book for this reason.
I guess it's not a bad book, just so-so. I tried to edit this to make it a 3 star, rather than the 2 I initially gave it, as that seemed fairer, but I can't edit the 'stars.' I just wouldn't recommend it for a beginner looking for a how-to reference.
Excellent reference book.......2007-02-15
So far this book has been a good reference for me. Very good pictures and descriptions. I haven't gone through it completely yet. Wouldrecommend it for people that know how to sew.
Everything you need to know about Sewing.......2006-11-11
The title says it all. The book is full of beautifully photographed techniques and explanations.
in response to a previous review.......2006-07-28
"The book starts off assuming you know how to read and cut patterns, piece together parts, and construct clothing." I just wanted to say that the book does explain how to read and interpret patterns. In fact there are about 8 really good pages dedicated to reading patterns. I really hated how every pattern I bought wouldn't give an explanation of all the symbols they used. I didn't understand the symbols and some of the steps used in patterns until I got this book.
However the previous reveiwer was right about the book not explaining how to use a sewing machine, so I woudln't recommend getting this book if that's what you're after. If you've played with your sewing machine a bit and have figured out how to reasonably use it, then go for it.
Reasons to get the book:
-Great detailed images to follow
-shows how to properly fit a pattern and ways to fix common fitting problems
-index of stitches and how they're used
-has examples of how to sew specific garments
-explains how to execute common construction pieces like placket pockets and lapped zippers
Cons:
-like previous reviewer said it did not give an overview of how to use a sewing machine (pretty bad for a "complete guide")
