Because of the reviews of others on Amazon I decided to take a look at this book and then I purchased it. Filled with tons of information. Easy to read, understand, explained well and enjoyable. You cannot go wrong with this book. I doubt even the inexperienced will have any problems using an iPod after reading this.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Source.......2007-01-13

I`ve owned Apple computers now since 2000, theres no turning back. However, like most first users I was surprised that there was no manual when I purchased my G4 in 2000. So I went out and got the Missing Manuals, the Macs for Dummies and so on. These books are all great. When I got the G5 with the new OS X, I was drooling. This machine was beauty and with the little knowledge I did acquire from my wanderings on my G4, I realized the G5 was even easier to use and so intuitive that I really did not feel the need to get a manual but I did anyway because I knew there were things I was simply unaware of and that I could take this G5 further into my creative endeavors.

Anyway, there are many excellent books out there to get but I try not to stick with one publisher or writer because everyone has their own style and ideas and I try to get as many as possible, not only that but I just feel every book has their own strengths so I seriously sit down and thumb though key sections for me at the book store before purchasing. With the said, I found this book to be the most helpful of the bunch and the easist to read. There are other books that are more colorful but this book gives me the info I need without all the photos and hoopla.

I should add that even though the book can get technical, if you`re into that sort of thing, it also helped me to set up my printer which should be an easy thing to do but this time I was having trouble with my HP. After thumbing through the book, I found what I was looking for and was printing seconds later. So this book can help with the most simple to the most technical aspects of working with your OS.

    4 out of 5 stars a Mac lifestyle.......2005-07-27

As Miser explains, there is a lot that you can do with a Mac running OS X. The user interface is beguilingly simple to learn. And this has characterised Macs over their 20 plus years. But you can learn here that under the simple UI is a ton of complex capabilities that you can access.

En route, if you can dedicate yourself to systematically go through this book, you learn a version of Unix. Which by the way, and to good first approximation, is equivalent to learning much about linux. Of course, this is not the primary intent of the book. But it is an unheralded extra virtue.

With regards to Unix, you can learn how to use the command line. While the UI lets you do many common tasks, there is a limit even to the ingenuity of Apple's designers as to what should be enabled at the UI level. The book has a relatively short chapter on the command line. For serious, specialised tasks, you may well end up carefully perusing the chapter.

On more general issues, Miser covers the most common usages of any personal computer. For browsing, the Mac has a default browser called Safari. You may not need to consult the book's notes on it, if you just do standard browsing. Then for email, the book shows how the Mac has an application for easy use.

What adds to the book's heft is its description of higher level, value-added applications that Apple has astutely used to build up the Mac's cachet. As in listening to or managing a music collection with iTunes, or even making music with GarageBand. More elaborately, running iMovie to be your own movie director. While it should be no surprise that Miser gives extensive coverage to the iPod and how its use can be integrated into the use of a Mac.

You can think of these sections of the book as being a useful and detailed adjunct to various skimpier books that describe those applications. Here, Miser's narrative lacks the often vivid multihued illustrations in those books, but makes up for this with more comprehensive details of usage. Though some of you might wince at this turn of phrase, the book elucidates a "Mac lifestyle".

    Amazon.com Audiobook Review

Patrick Stewart's one-man production of Dickens's A Christmas Carol played to sold-out audiences in New York and Los Angeles. In this studio recording based on those performances, Stewart is in rare form, using his considerable range of voices to play all roles, from the Ghost of Christmas past to Tiny Tim. It must be said that Stewart clearly enjoys playing Scrooge best of all--but isn't the villain always the most compelling character? Even if you feel that "every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding and buried with a stake of holly through his heart," this rendition of Dickens's classic will get you in a Yuletide mood. (Running time: 2 hours, 2 cassettes) --C.B. Delaney

    Book Description

"Bah Humbug!" That's how Ebeneezer Scrooge feels about Christmas--until the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future decide to show the crotchety old miser the error of his ways. Together they travel through time, revisiting all the people who have played an important role in Scrooge's life. And as their journey concludes, Scrooge is reminded of what it means to have love in his heart, and what the true spirit of Christmas is all about. A timeless story the whole family will enjoy!

The best of Charles Dickens' work. Ebenezer Scrooge is a bloke that pretty much anybody who came across him would classify as a miserable old coot.

When he is particularly miserable towards an employee at xmas, a few spooky spectral spirits take him to task.

5 out of 5 stars Charles Dickens for Children.......2007-06-22

After finishing the original text of "A Christmas Carol" my 6 yo child was begging for me to read the story to her. When searching for a version which would suitable for her I came across a copy of the DK Eyewitness Classic at our local public library. It was a hit with our child! The text is a close adaptation of the original text. Throughout the book there are sprinklings of historical facts which are linked to the story through "eyewitness" encounters. At the end of the book is a historical section which deals with the particular time period the story takes place. Plus there is a full page biography of the author. This is a fantastic way to introduce your children to classic literature.

5 out of 5 stars Patrick Stewart is perfect in this reading!.......2007-05-18

Two of my most favorite things --- Patrick Stewart and A Christmas Carol. Now I get both in one! This CD was a remarkable rendition of A Christmas Carol. Given Patrick Stewart's English accent, it made it even better.

What can one say about this that isn't already known? Everyone knows the story of A Christmas Carol so there is no need to restate what it is about. If you have ever seen an episode of "Star Trek - Enterprise", you know what the voice of Patrick Stewart sounds like. So, I will only say imagine the English setting of the story and the English voice of Mr. Stewart and you have one of the best tellings of this story I have ever heard.

    5 out of 5 stars Nasty McGreedy!.......2007-02-03

One of the most amazing stories in western literature is Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. When brought to the stage, the journey of Ebenezer Scrooge from a horrid, lonely miser to benevolent, vibrant celebrator of Christmas can be an enthralling experience. The recent production of this show at GeVa Theatre attempted to take the audience on just such an adventure.

5 out of 5 stars Why Fumble When You Can Read It in Detail?.......2001-04-09

There are few things as satisfying and fun to the videographer as making professional movies - videos that you actually want to watch a second time or more - and Apple's iMovie software is THE tool to do just that. You get superb results from an inexpensive piece of software - IF you can use it. While the program is exceptionally simple, there is only an on screen "Help Menu," and we all know how those work: everything but the question you need answered, it seems. Into the void has rushed Brad Miser with wit and wisdom, and with all the answers and instruction you need and then some. His Idiot's Guide is a marvelous introduction to video/movie making, and he walks you through composition, editing, mixing, enhancing, titling, effects, and stuff you never thought possible when you bought that video camera (or even thought about buying it). Miser is one of those very few authors that are effectively "high tech" and "high touch," he writes with clarity, and with an obvious love of his subject. If Amazon would allow it, I'd give this six stars.

5 out of 5 stars One idiot's review of The Complete Idiot's Guide to iMovie2.......2000-11-30

iMovie2 does not come with an instruction book, and the iMac booklet helps precious little, so I was pleased to find Brad Miser's Idiot Guide (which is a series I like anyway). The book is both imformative and insightful, plus a lot of fun to read. It got me going with iMovie in very short order, and when I emailed Mr. Miser to clarify a point, I got a prompt and effective answer. Highly recommended.

Last stop for hundreds of Stars, Celebrities, Moguls, Misers and misfits, the Bad and the Beautiful. Fabulous funerals from Rudolph Valintino and Barbara LeMarr to Sammy Davis Jr. , where thousands jammed the streets; glitzy theme park fashioned cemeteries, tombstones shaped like automobiles and parking meters, weird and wonderful epitaphs; Mel Blanc's "That's all folks!" , Over My Dead Body" George Bernard Shaw, "Do Not Disturb" , Constance Bennett. Groucho's disappearing ashes and Errol Flynn's kidnapping. Strange last requests, last promises, last vengeance's. You know them all. California is the place to "go".

4 out of 5 stars Final Curtain a book for those who loved and love the movies.......1999-04-21

In reading Final Curtain I found myself back in the Hollywood of yesteryear with those famous names and people who made HOLLYWOOD and its movies great. I enjoyed the book immensely,Final Curtain is not just a book about death and gravestones, but about the people who gave and used their various talents to entertain.

2 out of 5 stars The book was interest, but contained many inaccuracies........1998-10-30

The book contains many interesting tidbits on famous dead movie stars, but it full of glaring mistakes. For example, in one section on William Randolph Hearst his wife is named as Millicent. However, in the section on Marion Davies his wife is named Pheobe, who is actually his mother. I have found inaccurate dates and locations. One paragraph will contradict another. The amount of errors makes the whole book suspect. Also, directions to some of the stars final resting places is detailed and others not all. For a serious Thantologist, I would only recommend this book for entertainment value.

    3 out of 5 stars A so-so book.......1998-06-02

This book has some good stories in it but as far as grave hunting goes, it's not very complete. It's okay to have for entertainment but not as a reference book.

We are consumed by not only our fond memories of these greater than life legacies, but, by the stone monuments they had left behind. From through the eyes of experienced tour guides, we are brought past these icons, filling our heads with a part of the Hollywood image we never knew. After viewing these haunting images of our own fates, we realize too, that now, we are all much wealthier than any person we had the pleasure of meeting throughout each of our visits to them!

      1 out of 5 stars worthless.......2007-02-15

I read this entire book in one afternoon. The title implies that it will show you how to do amazing things with you mac mini. In reality, it is barely more than a collection of manuals. How to set up your Airport. How to hook up your mini to an Elgato Eye TV, or a Roku Soundbridge.

The sad thing, is that most of this information is already found either in the manuals of those products themselves, at the manufacturer's website, or in their forums, ALL OF WHICH ARE FREE! I was expecting some really neat stuff. What I got was mostly underwhelming, and frankly, not that up to date.

Unless you are a switcher and have absolutely no idea of what to do with your mini, do yourself a favor and don't waste your money.

      5 out of 5 stars A Unique Impression.......2002-03-16

This is the first and best of the series. It introduces the eclectic group of servants of the unlucky house: the resourceful ring-leader of a butler, Rainbird, sympathetic and downtrodden Lizzy, and the effeminate, vain Joseph, and the rest.

Fiona Sinclair, taken from an orphanage to be raised and educated as a lady for her benefactor's dubious purposes, is accustomed to using her wile and cunning to dodge the exploiters and schemers of her day. Usually, she gets the upper hand until she meets Lord Harrington. His aloof manner and haughty views leave him the only man in London society impervious to her extraordinary beauty, or so it seems. To that end, he is the only one who does not want to exploit her. To Fiona, for this reason, he is the only man who will do.

For an orphan of questionable birth, albeit a beautiful one, to ensnare an autocratic Lord who is rich and handsome would require a miracle, one which the servants of the House on Clarges Street are all too ready to manufacture- a plan to make this arrogant Lord see the beauty of Fiona's heart.

This novel plays out like a situated comedy much like Chesney's others with the same twists and turns, yet with the undertone of sweet melancholy unique only to this book. Fiona appears to be too wily and stoic at first to deserve such fortune until she ventures to risk everything by revealing her heart. Miser of Mayfair portrays the harshness of Regency society and the triumph of those who gamble and win, weaving not only a poignant love story, but more, a lasting impression.

3 out of 5 stars It was good, but the heroine was too much like her others........1999-04-01

I liked these books. The only problem I have with them, is that the heroines are always absolutely gorgeous, with a rich Lord hanging around in the background who just can't seem to get her out of his mind. She gets into trouble, he rescues her, she turns him down because she doesn't think she's good enough for him, or he's good enough for her. Very good light reading, and a pleasure, but not up to the Gone with The Wind class by a lot.

3 out of 5 stars An easy, fast historical love story........1999-02-26

I enjoyed this novel, along with all of the other "A House for the Season" novels I have read. The plot and characters were simple but the story was amusing and uplifting. I was able to read The Miser of Mayfair in one night and despite the simplistic nature of the novel, I was not disappointed in the experience.
