Good detail.......2007-08-09
Unlike most books that start with how to install the product, this book goes into much more detail on how to craft a PKI infrastructure. What documents should be approved by legal and what should be in them. Then, it goes on to describe the proper way to install Cert Server from Microsoft and this is not just run setup. If you have to do a PKI for your company, this is the book to get!
The only resource you need for Windows PKI.......2007-07-20
Quite simply the only book you will need if you are planning on implementing a Windows 2003 PKI environment. Everything you need, from deciding your Certificate Authority Hierarchy, down to customising your certificate templates and publishing them in Active Directory is right here.
Empowering, Clear, and Consise.......2006-01-27
I have to say that this book is simply amazing. I have searched the longest to clearly understand not just about PKI, but actually how to implement it, and was always referred to tombs of mathematical theory and such. This book demystifies PKI infrastructure in clear and concise explanations (but not overkill though), and has a lot of material on how to practically implement a variety of PKI architectures that can fit small businesses to huge enterprise corporations.
Implementing this stuff involves more than simple button clicking. What I really appreciate is that there are really delves into pre-installation configuration (CAPolicy.inf) and also post installation (publishing AIA/CDP to Active Directory either through command line or graphical snap-in). I've looked at other security books that touch on this topic, but they are either/both incomplete or sometimes in areas incorrect. This help set me straight.
The bottom line is that this is indeed the best book on this topic of implementing PKI infrastructure (certificate authorities, etc.) within Windows environment.
Bset book I've seen on PKI and certificate management.......2005-07-13
Brian Komar tackles, what I've seen countless other authors refer to as a difficult to understand subject matter. It appearantly took a whole team at Microsoft to explain it to him, but it looks like he got it right. Of the many books I've read that address certificates and PKI this is the only one I've seen that presents a complete picture, where I didn't walk away wondering... but how does this part of it work, or why did they do that this way.
I would Highly recomend this book to any one who works with Microsoft Server 2003. This book is a MUST READ for all systems engineers especially if you implement
-WIFI
-RRAS and or IAS (RADIUS)
-Exchange
-IIS with SSL
RT
MCT, MCSE, MCDBA, MCSA, Master Instructor MS Office
The best PKI implementation guide.......2005-06-21
This is by far the best reference out there for understanding PKI in general and implementing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CA infrastructure. Komar's depth of knowledge and breadth of experience clearly shows. Found the description of CAPolicy.INF files and sample files and scripts in this book extremely useful - that alone saved me a lot of time. And it doesn't end there...
Definitely a must-have for Microsoft infrastructure and security professionals.

not practical at all.......2007-08-10
I give this book 1 star because the author does a good job of explaining the whole process of buying tax liens, but doesn't mention that you probably won't be able to do this profitably.
I have been to more than a few tax lien sales. The interest rates vary by state, some are 14%, some are 16%, some are 19%, so it sounds like a good deal. then the auction begins and that 16% rate gets bid down to 15%, 14%, 10%, etc. Until nobody is willing to accept less. I sat at an auction where the rate was bid down to 1%. Thats a pretty poor return for my money. I spoke with one of the bidders who told me that his organization will sometimes bid as low as -3%. That means they pay 3% interest for the privilege of buying the lien. Obviously they are hoping to take this to foreclosure.
The problem is many large organizations send representatives to these auctions because they view it as an easy, cheap investment. They are happy to get 5% on a few hundred thousand dollars invested because they hope a few of these will progress to foreclosure, or they will start the foreclosure proceedings so they can recover the entire house and property as payments. Its a numbers game. they know they will get paid eventually, and they hope for a bigger score.
We go in there hoping to pay off the debt and get 16%, but they are playing by different rules. We can't compete with that unless we have tons of cash and are willing to take less. Usually much less.
Another thought to think about is lets say you buy the tax lien. The homeowner continues his pattern of not paying taxes, now you have to continue to buy his future tax liens to keep someone else from buying them and starting their own foreclosure process. because they will get the house and all they have to do is pay you your principal and interest. Which isn't too bad, at least you did not lose money. But they get the big score.
You also need to be aware of the condition of the house. Lets say you buy the tax lien for $5,000 and then you end up foreclosing to recover your money. The house may not be worth $5,000 or it may need $75,000 worth of work to get it into saleable condition if you want to make a decent profit.
You also need to be aware that if you foreclose on a property and there are problems or contamination issues (leaking underground oil tanks, etc) you are now responsible to pay for the clean-up of that contamination. Yes, you can legally go after the previous owner to try to get the cost of clean-up from him, but if he could not pay his taxes what makes you think he has hundreds of thousands of dollars laying around to pay for clean-up costs? Theres probably a good chance that he would not waste money on insurance coverage either. So you are pretty much on your own.
Before you think about buying tax liens you need to do a little research and planning. Go to a few tax lien sales. You can call your local govt to find out the dates. Sit in and see how they work. You also need to have extra money. You need money to buy the tax lien. you need money to start foreclosure proceedings to get your money back. You need to inspect the house and property BEFORE you buy the lien. Don't buy someone elses headache. Maybe they stopped paying taxes to try to get someone to foreclose and take away their nightmare? You need to check the town records. Are their other liens on this property? Are there easements?
I think this was a good way to earn money years ago. before the larger organizations jumped on the tax lien bandwagon. It sounds good in theory, but unless you are in the middle of nowhere, in a tiny town that a large organization has never heard of, the chances of making this a large money making investment are going to be slim. You may get lucky, but in my experience it will be tough.
If you do decide to start buying tax liens, if you can get some at a profitable rate, I recommend you do it far away from where you live. If you start foreclosure proceedings on someone who lives in your own community, there will be some bad blood. people have a tendency to hate other people that start foreclosure proceedings against them. I guess thats why the large organizations do it, they are faceless and don't care about others.
You also need to understand that some people that stop paying taxes are horrible people and who wouldn't want to profit from them? But some of these people will be single mothers trying to keep their children fed and clothed. Do I buy food or pay property taxes?
Good Information A little Outdated.......2007-07-20
This book is a great book to get you in tune with the idea. The book is a little outdated though. I read about this book in Rich Dad Poor Dad. Good Idea will be looking for more updated information.
16% Solution.......2007-03-29
Very quick read. Well written, and for those with no experience - or even those with experience - with real estate investing, this book is one to have on hand. Though written during a different economic swing than now (2007), the info is still quite relevant. Provides loads of information for even the most novice investor to analyze risk. I've recommended the book several times.--Hope the author update the info soon.
A view from the sterling area.......2007-03-08
This book is specific to US. It woudl be difficult to work the system from outside US.
I phoned a number of local councils and found that they all had one auction per year. In these days of low interest rates, there was no debt left over.
For Californians who are happy to be in a sinking dollar, a better alternative is to lend to individuals against their property. There are many brokers will get you 14% secured against the whole property, and you are not tied to one auction a year.
Nevertheless, it is an excellent and well-written book. The seciton giving details of who to phone was correct when I used it. I learned a lot.
outdated and not useful.......2006-11-11
This book was a giant disappointment. Very outdated - virtually no information on how to do this kind of investing electronically. A waste of $.
Book Description
Bulls, bears, and the price of shares-the daily tallies of the stock market are on everyone's mind. The contemporary investor usually measures ownership via a confirmation blip on the computer screen; nevertheless, since the eighteenth century, stock certificates have visually charted the evolution of American industry. Now highly collectible, these documents are the ultimate melding of art and commerce, and The Art of the Market 200 years' worth of stocks on their artistic rather than their financial merits.
In the days before advertising and annual reports, the stock certificate projected a company's image of quality to the world through artwork and embellishments that epitomized the times-from the bold engravings of locomotives stamped on the shares of nineteenth-century railroad tycoons, to the sleek Art Deco styling from the early automobile era, to the graphic images for today's high-tech media giants. The Art of the Market presents more than 200 certificates that collectively render America's social and economic history through wars and peace, panics and prosperity. Each certificate is fully analyzed in artistic terms, while the lively text offers a compelling historic background on the capitalist mosaic.

A great coffee table book.......2000-07-18
This book is an excellent reminder of a time when stocks meant more; when stock was something tangible you held vice keystrokes gone in the blink of an eye or memory stored on your computer. In the era of online trading, art such as this is sorely missed. The commentary is not particularly deep, however the art and the history is, for lack of a better word, neat. I think this book is well suited for the coffee table and a nice reminder of how things were "back then."
Great business history.......2000-05-12
I received this book as a gift, and was struck at first by its amazing "look"--it has top-notch graphics. The individual stock certificates are remarkable, and the book's authors make these images come to life as symbols of American business. The engraving of the certificates is treated as a vanishing art form, and this collection offers a reminder of just what is being lost as the market becomes more and more "virtual." At a time when more Americans own stock than ever before--and almost none of them, as the authors point out, have ever seen a stock certificate--this book represents nothing less than a hidden history of an American institution. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the stock market, but also to anyone interested in the history of American business and its influence on our culture.
Fantastic book for scripophily!.......2000-04-23
Wonderfully illustrated book showing the true definition of financial art. Beautiful full-color illustrations of stock certificates. Best part of the book is the price. Very affordable (a bargain for the art!)
A book where research of companies is at a minimum.......1999-12-26
I received this book for Christmas and just spent ten minutes laughing at the history of Xerox. The authors called the company's beginnings as the Harold company, then changed its name to the Harold Xerox Company. The original company's name was the Haloid Company, not the Harold Company. In my ten minutes of reading there was 4 more errors of company names or historical facts of the stock certificates. I did not read the "history" portion but feel if the authors can't get the histories of Xerox, Exxon, Playboy, Admiral, etc correct, why bother....The stock certificates are admirable, though

Book Description
In response to strong market feedback, Essentials of Marketing Research, 2e, was developed directly from the eight edition of William Zikmund's best-selling Exploring Marketing Research text. Designed specifically for instructors who prefer a more concise introduction to marketing research topics, Essentials of Marketing Research, 2e, reflects the astonishing changes in information technology that have taken place since the previous edition. While this edition continues to focus on the time honored, traditional marketing research methods, the addition of extensive coverage of Internet research is a major change in this edition. Internet issues are carefully placed throughout the text to combine basic marketing research concepts with the emerging Internet power to conduct effective marketing research.
Customer Reviews:
Highly Recommended for Business & Marketing Students.......1999-09-06
This first edition of Essentials of Marketing Research is written by Professor William G. Zikmund of Oklahoma State University, author of the best-selling Exploring Marketing Research (now in seventh edition) and Business Research Methods (now in sixth edition).
Shorter than Exploring Marketing Research, it nevertheless presents a lively picture of contemporary marketing research. Its emphasis on practical applications gives business and marketing students a basic understanding of the scope of marketing research.
The result is not a dry, technical and analytical treatment of advanced data analysis or statistical techniques but an accurate presentation of the "big picture" of marketing research as a dynamic, creative and enjoyable pursuit.

Better information than I expected.......2002-08-11
Ok, so this book wasn't a life changer; but it did in providing me with useful information. The book begins by warning you that it can be easily dated, because programs come and go. I think as long as you maintain that reference, a lot of information can be gathered.
Re-title this book!.......2000-07-02
This book should have been titled "You're Certifiable....Job Opportunities IF YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA". I thought it was a fabulous book, but truly, it's not much use if you don't live on the West Coast.
For someone looking for a personally fulfilling career.......1999-08-09
I bought this book for the 21 year old daughter of a friend. She had dropped out of college, complaining that nothing there really interested her. I discovered this book while browsing amazon.com, ordered it, and decided it was perfect for her. After she looked through it, she decided to apply for a school that taught animal massage (she's been crazy about animals since she was a child). She completed the program and is now happily working at a local kennel offering massages to companion animals.
The book lists about 700 other alternative career programs, covering 10 other areas ranging from crafts, arts, outdoors interests, healing, etc. The programs are described succinctly and information is provided on how to follow up. In the beginning of the book, the authors provide a nice introduction to the whole concept of alternative careers (how to find what interests someone, etc.)
Really, it would be a worthwile gift for someone who is looking for a way to make a living that is a little "different", but personally gratifying.

For over twenty years, the simple, friendly approach of THE LEAST YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ENGLISH has helped students with their spelling, punctuation, and sentence and paragraph structure.

The Best You Should Know..........2001-12-16
I was introduced to this text a number of years ago when teaching in a community college in California. Every other English textbook I have seen since has dissatisfied me. Glazier's text can be used for classroom teaching or for self-paced instruction and can be adapted for any level from middle school through college. My students have commented after the first few lessons, "Wow -- nobody ever taught it to me this way!" Whether your student is advanced or needs extra help, this text can provide it all. I'll never use anything else for teaching grammar and mechanics. Denise Stickel
The Least you NEED to know about English.......2001-04-18
As an English teacher, I often find it difficult attaining grammar books that are accessable to all students. The Least You Should Know About English provides comprehensive lessons that students can understand, and also gives a wealth of exercises. The book deals with all grammar errors-fragments, usage, parallel structure, shifts in time, apostrophe-as well as proofreading exercies. For times you struggle with the correct answer, an answer key is provided. I found this book ideal in my high school classroom, since so many students lack the grammar background needed to be successful in writing.

MBA textbook.......2006-05-14
I used this textbook for an MBA Marketing Research class. Very useful complementary textbook.
Websurveyor not working.......2004-09-25
I used this book over five semesters for the class of Marketing Research I teach at ASU. It is an OK-to-good book. However I would like to warn potential buyers that WebSurveyor has discontinued its contract with the book's publisher many semesters ago; so even if you find a coupon inside the book with a code to enter to use WebSurveyor online, you will not be able to log in...
Excellent General Marketing Research Text.......2004-01-21
I am an MBA/Graduate Marketing Research adjunct professor at Lindenwood University in St. Louis, MO and I am currently using this text for my class. The students find it very accessible, even for non-researchers, and easy to read. I find that it flows very well and makes good use of real-world examples. The only criticism is that there could be even more real-world cases and examples and some interactive projects that could better allow students to have a more hands-on learning experience. This text is very good overall, but I am needing to supplement the class with some outside real-world projects.

WARNING! INTERESTING BUT OLD.......2006-11-10
This is a little bit old in terms of tax liens, a venture that is dependent on making sure you have the most accurate info. I suggest reading The Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Tax Lien and Tax Deed Auctions, ISBN: 0978834607, a newer release.
Good Intro for Beginners.......2006-04-11
This is the first book on tax liens I've read so I don't have anything to compare it to. However, the info. presented in the book was very easy to understand and gives you a good grasp of why you would want to add this to your portfolio. I wish more states were covered; but that's okay. Overall, if you are wanting to become educated on the topic, this is a good place to start. However, if you want everything detailed and outlined; you're probably better off going to one of those seminars where they sign you up. This book will give any beginner a good first step. I plan on reading "16% solution" as well as doing more research on the internet...but overall, excellent first place to start.
Don't waste your time or money.......2005-03-12
This book has little to offer. Anybody who is impressed with this book must be related to Yocom or is comatose to the business world. The 16% Solution ... is much better albeit dated.
Painful to Read.......2004-12-04
I couldn't get through this. The fourth time I read "you gotta do this!" I felt my time was better spent reading something without all the hype.
A good start.......2004-10-13
Yes, this is a very basic beginning to tax sales, but it really helped me to get a foot in the door. I used to know virtually nothing about tax sales, and this was the first book that I read. (I've been researching tax sales for quite a while now.) Regardless of how basic it is, I came away with the beginning of an understanding to tax sales. Some books throw you right into all of the complications and details of tax sales, but I think it's important to make sure you have the elementary concept of them in the first place.
However, after this I read "The 16 Percent Solution" by Joel Markowitz and would recommend it to anyone who already has a basic knowledge of tax sales. Also, there's a website called www.taxsale.com that teaches you even more and also shows when and where tax sales take place in each jurisdiction of every state.
