Muerte Blanca, Es muy prefecto!!!.......2007-01-12
Muerte Blanca, White Death!?!?!? Come on people, I'm not Spanish or Mexican and I barely passed High School Spanish and I knew the title was White Death in Spanish!!! A brilliant book, in any language! 5 Stars to all Cussler's novels. You people are embarrassing!!!
In Question???.......2007-01-12
I expect this book is great, like all of Cussler's books. However, I don't read or speak Spanish and can't make a judgment. There was no indication that the book was in Spanish other than the title and that didn't help in the selection. I gave the book to my Spanish-speaking cleaning lady. No review from her as of yet. Thanks.
Mr........2007-01-05
I returned this book. I do not speek nor do I read Spanish. I have not seen the credit on my account
Review of the book.......2006-11-17
The purpose of a book review is to review the book. If you bought this Spanish language book without noticing that not only the title, but the entire front cover is written in another language, no es por falta del amazon. Es tu culpa propia. Don't fault Mr. Cussler by giving him a low rating simply because you never learned Spanish.
The book in Spanish as well as its English counterpart is a wonderful novel. In true Clive Cussler fashion, it keeps the reader guessing until the end. Tal como siempre, fue una cuenta increible.
Not all their fault.......2006-07-28
I disagree. It isn't that obvious. First of all, it is not unheard of to have an English book with a spanish phrase as the title. Plus, there is no reason to expect Amazon to return a spanish book in a search. I didn't order it, but I clicked on it thinking "ooh, a new book by Cussler".
Book Description

Could have been so much more..........2005-07-17
Things I loved about this book:
1) The hero: Not a rake or womanizer. (I hate the "Duke of Slut" that so many readers seem to prefer.) He's kind and sensitive, my kind of guy.
2) No long big misunderstandings between hero & heroine: I REALLY hate "The Big Misunderstanding".
Problems with this book:
1) The characters seem one-dimensional, not well-rounded
2) There is not much spark between hero & heroine.
3) This is a big one - things are wrapped up way too quickly, in a way that is not believable at all. I feel this author insulted the intelligence of her readers. There is a difference between a good writer and someone who wants to make money by cranking out mediocre products. I feel this author clearly falls into the latter category.
A lovely ending to the series.......2004-08-07
White Mist is a warm, engrossing read with strong characters and an enchanting setting. The Isle of Trelay is almost a character itself; Reding does a remarkable job of bringing the place to life. No wonder Eleanor falls in love with the place.
There's just enough tension in the mystery, and it is nice to not have the romantic leads antagonistic towards each other. Eleanor's innocence is of the charming variety and is tempered by a kind heart and a good deal of wisdom and bravery for one so young. Gabriel is a good, noble, simple man faced with a centuries-old burden he hates having to bear. Eleanor shows him how to drop that burden and live as he longs to, while his island provides her with a place to belong and be needed.
Although the device of Julianna's friend being able to read her mind is too convenient, Gabriel's daughter herself plays a pivotal role. Her silence is well-grounded and effectively utilized. Leftover questions from book 3 are answered, effectively wrapping up the quartet.
One thing that really bugs me about Reding's book (and came to a head in this one): both she and her editor need to better understand the structure and usage of the English language. She repeatedly misuses words and parts of speech (For example, using "effects" instead of "affects" and repeatedly using adverbs when adjectives are needed--just because the word is in the predicate doesn't mean it's an adverb.) Sometimes her phrasings are convoluted, too. I enjoyed the story & the characters, but her style and grammar need improvement.
Not a keeper.......2002-06-09
Although this book kept me interested until the last page, it's not a 5-stars book. Many actions/scenes/sentences seemed full of romance-cliches, and the attraction between the hero & heroine wasn't portrayed in an effective way. Besides, there was not enough dialogue between them (to me, dialogue is one of the essential elemements that make a couple real and believable).
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT.......2001-11-14
I loved this book! The lead character, Eleanor, embodies everything I look for in a heroine -- strength, intelligence, pride, resourcefulness. She doesn't whimper when she's up against a wall...doesn't once stomp her foot when she gets angry. She is mature and multi-faceted. And the hero, Gabriel, is the quiet, silent type -- her perfect other half. If you like mysteries, there's a good one in this story that involves the disappearance of Gabriel's first wife. It's all set on a remote Scottish island that is cloaked in atmosphere so well, you'll feel you are there. A great read altogether.
Inspiring..........2001-02-10
White Mist is the conclusion of Jaclyn Reading's White Series. White Knight, White Magic, and White Heather are the first three in the series that travels the misty western isles of Scotland. Jaclyn Reding is known for her historical romances. Her books take the reader to a far and distant land for a time of intrigue and romantic celebration. It's a wonderful opportunity that all romance readers should endeavor to experience.
In the prologue, we are introduced to Lady Eleanor Wycliffe, heiress of the Westover dukedom. It's September 1820 and things aren't going the way Lady Eleanor had hoped so she decides to leave home. She ends up at the Isle of Trelay in the Scottish Hebrides and takes on the job as governess for Gabriel MacFeagh, Viscount Dunevin. His daughter experienced a tragedy three years ago and hasn't spoken since. Nor has the devil of Dunevin, as he is known, shown any affection or support for the child or her condition. Mystifying reasoning is the cause of all this mayhem in the Dunevin castle, and hopefully the concerns of one wayward, unhappy woman, who instantly feels emotionally attached, can set them all to rights.
White Mist is an inspiring read. Sometimes it takes getting away from an everyday routine and existence to really witness life. This is what Eleanor does, and it leads her to a child in need of support and a man most clearly misunderstood... or is he? It also leads her to emotions she has yet to experience or understand, and most likely would not have discovered at home. The characters are well developed, compassionate, and sooo romantic. The historical setting with the Gaelic information is sound and impressive: I enjoyed learning from it. I found it to be a wonderful read and am quite sure fellow historical romance readers will love the fourth title in the White Series.

Book Description
This work approaches Native American literature from within an interdisciplinary framework that complicates traditional notions of literary "origins" and canon. It situates the discussion of Native literatures in a Native American context, suggesting that contemporary Native American writing has its roots in Native oral storytelling traditions.
Book Description
Bridging Cultures Between Home and School: A Guide for Teachers is intended to stimulate broad thinking about how to meet the challenges of education in a pluralistic society. It is a powerful resource for in-service and preservice multicultural education and professional development. The Guide presents a framework for understanding differences and conflicts that arise in situations where school culture is more individualistic than the value system of the home. It shares what researchers and teachers of the Bridging Cultures Project have learned from the experimentation of teacher-researchers in their own classrooms of largely immigrant Latino students and explores other research on promoting improved home-school relationships across cultures. The framework leads to specific suggestions for supporting teachers to cross-cultural communication; organization parent-teacher conferences that work; use strategies that increase parent involvement in schooling; increase their skills as researchers; and employ ethnographic techniques to learn about home cultures. Although the research underlying the Bridging Cultures Project and this Guide focuses on immigrant Latino families, since this is the primary population with which the framework was originally used, it is a potent tool for learning about other cultures as well because many face similar discrepancies between their own more collectivistic approaches to childrearing and schooling and the more individualistic approach of the dominant culture.

Book Description
Blanca Muratorio introduces us to Rucuyaya Alonso, a Quichua elder from the Upper Ecuadorian Amazon. Grandfather Alonso's story spans a century, as his narrative incoporates oral tradition learned from both his father and grandfather. The book alternates between chapters of Alonso's life history, and chapters analyzing the history of the world around him--the domination of the missionaries and the state, the white settlers' expropriation of land, the debt-peonage system during the rubber boom, the world-wide crisis of the 1930s, and the booms and busts of the iternational oil market. Muratorio explains the larger social, economic, and ideological bases of white domination over native peoples in Amazonia. Her analysis of Quichua culture shows how through everyday practices of accommodation and resistance, and through expressions of humor, irony, and anger, the Quichua Indians were able to protect their cultural identity, their ethnic dignity, and their symbolic systems against the hegemonic forces of a white-dominated world.
Customer Reviews:
A must-read for any student of Ecuador's upper Napo region........1999-03-06
Dr. Muratorio does an excellent job at combining first person oral narratives with a well-researched historical discussion and critique of the Pano Runa of Ecuador's upper Napo region. Employing James Scott's model of resistance, Muratorio demonstrates how the Runa have employed diverse strategies to struggle against hegemonic forces from missionaries and rubber barons, to the assimilationist state apparatus. The book highlights the cultural value of the Rucuyaya or grandfather, and laments the disaggregation of traditional family structures under the constraints of new economic arrangements. The book was originally published in Spanish under the title "Rucuyaya Alonso."

The Real Enchilada........2002-02-23
If you want original Mexican cuisine, thisi is it! Only rivaled by "Recetas de Todo México"by Angeles de la Rosa, this book has all original recipes from all over the country. And by original I mean OLD recipes passed on by Grandmothers.
The recipes are very good, might be hard to find the ingredients in the US, but they are worth looking for.
