"Did you ever fly a kite in bed? Did you ever walk with ten cats on your head?" Such are the profound, philosophical queries posed in this well-loved classic by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel. While many rhymes in this couplet collection resemble sphinx-worthy riddles, Seuss's intention is clear: teach children to read in a way that is both entertaining and educational. It matters little that each wonderful vignette has nothing to do with the one that follows. (We move seamlessly from a one-humped Wump and Mister Gump to yellow pets called the Zeds with one hair upon their heads.) Children today will be as entranced by these ridiculous rhymes as they have been since the book's original publication in 1960--so amused and enchanted, in fact, they may not even notice they are learning to read! (Ages 4 to 8)
Customer Reviews:
Another classic Dr Seuss book.......2007-07-20
Although its not as great as The Cat in the Hat, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is certainly one of my children's favorites, and they especially love trying to read some of the rhymes outloud. Certainly a great choice for a book for your young ones.
These fish become swans.......2007-07-12
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss gives young children an excellent way to start reading independently. The book helps children learn to count to eleven and it increases their vocabulary as you read it along with them the first few times. Young children just learning to read will be able to read this book as one of their first books that they can read by themselves; and the cute illustrations will delight children and even adults everywhere.
The book's plot is not entirely deep--nor should it be for this exceptionally young, tender age group. The book helps kids to learn how to count to eleven and recognize the words for those numbers; it also uses pictures to introduce words for basic colors including red, blue, black, yellow and pink. Children also explore the concepts of old and new; fast and slow; high and low; thin and fat as well as here and there. Excellent! The book also introduces the telephone and how two people can communicate by phone. Your child will love that--they'll think that the phone is a toy!
The book is nicely bound and the strength of the hardcover binding makes the book tolerate the bending and occasional carelessness of a young child who is learning to read partly by using this book. Great!
I highly recommend One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish for younger kids who are just learning to read. This book will increase their vocabulary by introducing words, comparisons and pictures. The child also gets a heightened awareness of the world around them; and the adorable illustrations will delight children everywhere.
Great job, Dr. Seuss!
Of course it's great!.......2007-06-08
Who can say anything bad about One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish!?!?!!
Five stars for One Fish.......2007-06-02
This is one of our favorite Seuss creations, along with Fox In Socks. My son lvoes to finish every sentence for us. We love this book and the funny creatures in it! ("From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!"
Fish and Things.......2007-04-10
You will have fun reading this tongue twister with your child. With funny made up animals (things) and verse that can twist the tongue of the most experienced reader.
What is the story about? Nothing really, just a bunch of nonsense that makes Dr. Seuss as fun as ever

Not impressed with this book.......2007-09-12
I was really disappointed after reading the great reviews. The quality of printing is not too great, and the content is nothing special - too trite.

Customer Reviews:
Lovely series for the Christian Homeschool.......2000-04-05
I have been using this series as I teach my six chidren at home. The authors have done an excellent job of bringing us the best of the original McGuffy Readers, returning to the contents of the first series, not those later published under his name. My children are discovering a nobler time and way of life as they learn the basics with these fine readers. The study guide is simple to use with many practical exercises and examples. The only reason for less than five stars seems to be the quality of the paper and binding. In the noble effort to keep costs down, the durability of the product suffers. I am hoping for a hard bound edition. Should one appear, the publishers should be prepared for greater sales than the previous edition. Such excellent content deserves an equally excellent binding with the ability withstand being read again and again.
Outstanding, Demanding Lessons for Young People and Adults........1998-07-28
These are the original 1837 McGuffey Readers before the secular revisions, with slight revisions of archaic grammar. Four Readers and a Study Guide show you how to teach your children to reason cogently, speak persuasively, write clearly--all in a Christian framework. Each lesson has moral and intellectual content, and offers an impressive vocabulary. Words progress from 'learn,' 'keep,' in the early grades to 'assiduity, profligate, efficacious, calcaneous, penury, communition, execrated' in high school. Lessons are followed by spell/define exercises, and thoughtful questions. Ex.: "Is it not better to be industrious and possess a good name than to possess many riches?" "What is the effect of making public opinion the rule of life?" "Have we not reason to rejoice that we live where we may hear the glad tidings of salvation?" Each lesson begins with a basic rule of reading and elocution. Study Guide ties each original lesson to a biblica! l theme. There are 10 years of 36 weekly lessons (grades 1-10). Instructions on teaching reading aloud, public speaking, good writing habits, memorization, logic, love for language as one of God's gifts. Many famous authors like Blackthorn, Shakespeare, Bacon, Irving figure prominently. By the time a child begins the third reader he will have surpassed most of today's high schoolers. Mastery of the fourth reader puts him beyond most college students. Any adult can read the selections with profit. You'll be awed at what was once accomplished in American schools, and resolved that your children grow up with the same advantages. The lessons cover a broad range of worthy topics including history, geography, poetry, and virtue. These are just reading selections, however, and do not as such offer instruction in phonics or grammar. Some of the 19th-century perspecitves are quaint, even funny. These lessons are intended for Christian parents who homeschool their children. ! I'm happy to learn from them myself. I see the sublime ed! ucational value of these lessons, and see the great need for moral and spiritual training for young people. These lessons will provide those in spades.

"I found only one

who had just begun
lying in the sun

having lots of fun
playing the accordion
and thinking he should run
before he's too well-done."
Just imagine the illustrations accompanying a wacky verse like that, multiply the whole concept by 10, and you begin to get a sense of Judi Barrett and Daniel Moreton's big, nutty counting-rhyming book. Each number, 1 through 10, is rhymed in the most delightfully nonsensical way, and accompanied by lively, colorful, wittily detailed illustrations. Each two-page spread is devoted to a number poem on one side and picture--of lions with umbrellas, bears operating heavy machinery, and lizards on strike--on the other. Lyrical it is not, but children will enjoy pounding out the final syllable of each line as they learn the joys of numbers and word sounds. Just try to stop young readers from coming up with their own silly rhymes--in fact, how about challenging them to a verse to rhyme with 17! Barrett's goofy sense of humor has been showcased in her many other children's books, including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. (Ages 2 to 5) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
HERE IS ONE
BIG BOOK OF FUN.
BEFORE YOU'RE DONE
YOU'LL LAUGH A TON!
Award-winning author Judi Barrett and illustrator Daniel Moreton invite young readers to think of numbers, counting, and rhyming in a whole new way.
A Few Words From the Author:
I've always wanted to create a different kind of counting book. I love playing with words, rhyming them, making jokes with them, and playing with their sounds. I had such a good time writing I Knew Two Who Said Moo. I started with the sound of each number, and then thought of other words with similar sounds that I could use to create these nonsense rhymes that do make sense -- in a silly way!
Writing this book made me laugh. I hope it makes you laugh too!
Your friend,
JUDI BARRETT
Customer Reviews:
Kat's Kind Review.......2002-10-31
The book I Knew Two Who Said Moo by Judi Barrett was a good book for the most part. It would be a good book for children that are younger. But if you were over the age of 7 this book probably would not be a good one for you. It is a book about counting and rhyming. She starts with the number 1 and goes to the number ten. She writes a couple of sentences on each page and the last word in every sentence rhymes with the number that you are reading. There is really no Plot to the book except that it shows younger children hoe to count and rhyming words. It is actually an amusing book but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to people that aren't within the ages of 2-7.
Wacky, Zany Fun.......2001-03-10
Judi Barrett and Daniel Moreton have collaborated on a marvelous book of counting, rhyming and matching that will mesmerize pre-schoolers with its humor and detail. Each silly, imaginative riddle, that rhymes with its page number, ("I noticed six, All holding picks, Trying to mix, A pile of bricks...") is illustrated with busy, vibrant artwork and youngsters will love to solve the easy riddles and find all the numbers and characters that correspond to the poem. Terrific for little ones just learning to count and rhyme, I Knew Two Who Said Moo is a winner kids won't be able to put down.
Silly Rhymes and beautiful illustrations!.......2000-12-20
I got this book because my husband loves to go around the house and make rhymes like these: "Hey Hon is dinner done? Or should I run and get a bun oh you have one? hey, there's my son!" This can be a normal conversation in our household. So I knew that he would love to read this book to our 14 month old son. And he does. What's more the illustrations are beautiful. My son will sit and turn page after page till he gets to the end of the book, then he'll turn page after page backwards. This will keep him occupied for 15 minutes at a time. An added bonus: the pages are a heavy stock paper and so far they've survived without ripping. I give it four stars because I wish it was longer (it only goes up to the number 10)

Customer Reviews:
A good translation with some flaws HCSB.......2006-09-18
The HCSB is a good translation overall that seems to combine the readability of the NIV with some of the accuracy of the NASB. There are some places where it can be a bit colloquial in its langauge, or trendy. Matthew 5:22 uses the word "moron," which is a very poor translation for the word, which actually means calling someone wholly worthless or a fool, while a "moron" is someone who is considered to have the genetic mental capacity of about 8th grade. There are also strong points, such as capitalizing names for God, and using bold print for OT quotes in the NT. The binding and quality of the Bible itself is very good, with soft leather. The pages are a bit thin and the print a bit light though. Overall, it is a good translation with some changes that could improve it.
Holman gets it right.......2006-03-21
After a couple of decades of bonded leather and cheap genuine leather Bibles bound in pigskin, Holman designed a nice affordable cowhide binding that will stand up to the wear and tear of daily use. Other publishers should take note.
Very pleased with this edition..........2005-01-23
I was very slow to warm to the Holman CSB. I avoided it for the most part as I believed that there was little reason to bring out yet another modern translation--we are literally awash in a sea of translations. And, like Larry below, I loved the ESV, but was waiting for a quality edition (Crossway cannot seem to publish a quality Bible).
At some point I began including the CSB in parallel searches online and was impressed, upon doing word studies, with the sense of the translation. For example, the CSB, along with only the NJB, captures what I believe is the correct sense of John 3:16. I also like the the treatment of Romans 6:6. Occasionally, I run across phrases that are at first not pleasant to my ears, like "human race" instead of the more usual "sons of man", or "temple complex" rather than just "temple". But, I seem to quickly get used to them and I'm generally delighted with the readability of the CSB. Perhaps most striking is the clarity of the translation. It is rendered in contemporary English and is very clear as to the meaning of the text. It is not a biblical English like the ESV, but not a street English either. At any rate I'm using it more and more and am benefiting greatly from its use.
This particular edition is very nice. The leather is a fine cowhide, thinner than the Cambridge calfskin Bibles that I own, but softer as a result. The paper is fine--it could have been a little thicker, but it's better than standard Bible paper and the amount of bleed-through is acceptable to me (It is an Ultrathin after all). The print is large enough to be comfortable at 10.5 and the Bible is very nicely laid out as regards the general typography. This is the nicest edition of the HCSB to date. I highly recommend this translation and this particularly edition. I don't believe you will be disappointed.
Excellent quality Bible.......2004-12-17
This is a very high quality Bible. The binding and overall craftsmanship is superb. In fact, the publisher (Holman) offers a lifetime guarantee. One caveat is that the print size, at 10.5, is not really what one would consider large print, although it is quite legible. The translation itself seems to be quite readable with a fairly high level of accuracy. It appears to be a cross between the literal accuracy of the NASB and the readability of the NIV. (Note: While I personally prefer the ESV, the quality of Bibles released to date by its publisher, Crossway, has been rather disappointing, to put it mildly)."

Book Description
Twins are everywhere these days! You see them in their double strollers, at the park, on the street, in baby classes, and hogging the aisles in storeseverywhere. Since when did having twins become so popular? And how in the heck do these moms of twins do it? How do you cope when you find out you're expecting twins? And how do you get through the first year without ending up in the loony bin or bankrupt?
Unlike other books on twins, HEART TWO HEART is
written by twin moms for other twin moms. (Even the book's editor is a twin mom!) Where other books on twins focus mainly on medical issues, psychological, educational, or parenting issues, HEART TWO HEART tells twin moms what they need to know about what it's like
day to day for that first year of having twins.
Where are twin moms supposed to go to figure out what to buy in terms of twin gear?
What happens if an expectant mom of twins ends up on bedrest?
How do you feed two squalling infants at the same time-alone? What might the father of twins experience?
What kind of changes might twin moms expect from their bodies?
HEART TWO HEART tells it like it is.
Customer Reviews:
The only book you need if you're having twins.......2007-06-25
Every multiples parent has a different story and this book gives seven different perspectives. VERY practical advice from pregnancy to feedings to sleep (or lack thereof). It was the only book that I really read and continue to use as reference, as a mom to 10-month old identical girls.
A WONDERFUL BOOK FOR PARENTS OR EXPECTANT PARENTS OF TWINS!.......2006-11-22
I have to say that I read so many books while I was pregnant with my twins, but so many of them are pedantic, focusing on medical issues or issues that did not seem to apply to me and my family. What I loved about this book was the fact that all 7 writers had different experiences and all of them had their own ways of dealing with everything from childcare to what stuff to buy. The fact that I got so many points of view from so many obviously different women allowed me to make choices that made sense for me and my family. I would recommend this book to anyone who is about to have twins or who is already immersed in that first wonderful year of parenting twins. GREAT BUY!!!

Book Description
For One Woman, September 11 Sparked an Odyssey of Faith to the Palestinian Territories" In my dream I stood at the edge of a dried up pool where crumbling stone columns were overgrown with vines and weeds and scores of doves and pigeons nested and flew. To my right was a large shade tree, but to my left I saw a few square squat dwellings with large satellite dishes attached to them. I remembered thinking the moment I woke up from that dream what a strange place it was, but then I quickly forgot all about it. That is, until the afternoon of June 12, 2005, four years later, when I found myself standing at the edge of a dried up pool where crumbling stone columns were overgrown with vines and weeds and scores of doves and pigeons nested and flew."
Impelled, compelled, and propelled by her faith as a progressive Christian, Eileen Fleming has journeyed four times to the Occupied Palestinian Territories. There she met with democratically elected members of Hamas, scores of Palestinian Christians and Muslims, and a few 21st-century prophets. The pages within this brave new work contain some of those interviews and her experiences listening to Christians, Muslims, Jews, secularists, anarchists, Nobel Peace Prize Nominees, and the whistleblower of Israel's underground WMD Program. This fascinating portrait will open your eyes and heart, and you will look at the Middle East in a new light.
"You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free." -John 8:32
Customer Reviews:
A Must Read for Anyone Interested in the World.......2007-07-15
Eileen Fleming's Memoirs is both an extremely interesting and highly informative account of the history and current situation in occuppied Palestine. The author provides a considerable amount of well documented information regarding the roots, history and anti-semitic nature of Zionism in both it's Chrisian and Jewish forms. She clearly delineates the Theocratic Ethnocracy that is today's Israel and demonstrates though example after example how it disciminates against all Goy (non-Jews and obviously inferior peoples), whether they be Christian, Muslim or of any other religious belief. As a result of this persecution, Christains today make up fewer than 2% of Israel's population although they represented 20% in 1948. Israel's consistent persecution has forced most Christians to flee their homeland and seek asylm in other nations. Her historical explications showed me the clear parallels that exist between the Italian Mafia and the Israeli Hagganah and it's spin-off's like the Irgun and the Stern Gang. Perahps the most interesting section is her extensive description of Mordeci Vanunu, the secular Jew who told the world about Israel's Atomic Bombs and as a result, spent 18 years imprisoned, mostly in solitary confinement. She likens him to Biblical prophets, who pointed out impending doom. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the future of the world, because, as Britain's Tony Blair noted, probably 70% of the world's conflicts can be traced directly to the Israeli/Palestinian situation.
Jimmy Carter opened a window: Eileen Fleming blew the doors off.......2007-03-02
"Memoirs of a Nice Irish American 'Girl's' Life in Occupied Territory" picks up where her first book, "KEEP HOPE ALIVE" left me off.
I am looking foward to the third effort from this prolific author who speaks the truth boldly, challenges the conventional wisdom-and mainstream media as she offers HOPE and reconciliation to a dysfunctional world.

Customer Reviews:
An very nearly Excellent Resource.......2004-09-25
I highly recommend this if you are serious about learning the language -- or one of the other languages in the series.
The series is expensive since it must be ordered-shipped from Europe. -MINUS ONE STAR
Caveat: The Arabic version uses not only transliteration but one of the WORST transliteration schemes ever devised (e.g., treating d-D, h-H, t-T, ain-hemza, th-TH, s-S as one letter each). (I took of an additional star on the Arabic review).
BUT, I typed them into the free Pauker flashcards (SourceForge.Net) and then learn(ed) the most common 2000 words in the language -- along with my OTHER studies in the language this really speeds up comprehension.
