Book Description
When Bobby Pendragon first arrives on the tropical world of Ibara, he finds
paradise. As he works to uncover clues about the turning point this seemingly
idyllic territory will soon face, all he can determine is that the people of
Ibara are blissfully happy. It's not long before Bobby discovers, however, that
they are also blissfully...oblivious.
The leaders of Ibara are keeping a devastating secret from their people, one
that gives Saint Dane all the opportunity he needs to launch his final assault
on Halla.
While Bobby struggles to learn the truth in time to thwart Saint Dane, Courtney
Chetwynde desperately searches for Mark Diamond. On the heels of a shocking
tragedy, Mark has disappeared. Worse, he seems to be under Saint Dane's
influence. It's up to Courtney to find Mark and stop him from making a grave
mistake that could change the future of all existence.

Pendragon rocks!.......2007-09-20
Another exciting chapter of the Pendragon adventure, the Pilgrims of Rayne continues to follow Bobby Pendragon, now a 17 year old boy, as he attempts to save another territory from being thrown into utter chaos by the very evil Saint Dane. As with the previous books, the twists and turns never stop! At times, what is revealed was so surprising that I had to stop and take a breather! The tone of this book shifts from the other books in that Bobby is starting to realize that his mission is about all of Halla, not just one territory. Things start to blend and shift. Victory is not as clear-cut as it was before for Bobby, and neither is defeat. And the motivations behind Saint Dane's evil acts are revealed more. Plus more time travel fun!
D.J. McHale is the master of surprise, white-knuckle suspense, as well as laugh out loud fun. This is possibly the best adventure series of all time, for both kids and adults. In my opinion, it is even better than Harry Potter. Grab all of his books today!
Great Book.......2007-08-31
This is a great addition to the Pendragon series. I highly recomend reading the first books first.
Very good!.......2007-08-17
Ok, this is book 8 and I can see major events unfolding but I'm a little frustrated as to where this whole thing is going. The territories are all mixed and there are indications of a huge grand scheme. I would like more glimpses into the grand scheme. We can go to 1000 territories and have adventures but it gets a little boring after a while when the stories don't culminate into meaning. I think it's time we enter more into Saint Dane's world and experience that a bit.
review by A Tran.......2007-08-12
You have got to read this book! When you think something will happen, the story does something totally different. I have read the whole series and I love it. It has a sense of adventure when Bobby goes to the different territories. Plus you never know what will happen. The author also uses what happens in the previous books as an effect of something a character in the story might do in another book. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys science fiction or action books. Also the author builds the energy in the story then lets it all out towards the end. Unlike other authors who build until the middle of the story, then the rest is boring.

BAD BAD BAD!.......2007-06-01
I really like the Pendragon book series, and I thought this book would be equally good. However, I was very wrong. The illustrator of 'The Guide to the Territories of Halla' must be different from the book illustrator because these drawings aren't all that great. Bobby looks... terrible. And Spader looks enormous (across). Plus, the book does not include pictures of 2 of the main characters: Courtney and Mark.
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! It is short. 48 pages of not-that-great drawings. I am serious. If you buy this book, you will think: 'Why didn't I listen to that kid telling me not to buy this book? It's a RIP-OFF!!'.
Loved it.......2007-01-16
My 10 year old son couldn't put this series down. He loved it. Highly recommend it!
No No No.......2006-06-17
I am a huge fan of this series, and this really was disappointing. The writing bit was decent, but the illustrations didn't meet my standards whatsoever. i was thoroughly disappointed with a few of the drawings as they didn't even follow the author's descriptions. It was irritating reading a book in a series I enjoy immensly that was so dismal.
A cool idea, but it could have been much better........2005-09-02
I picked this up in a bookstore the other day. I had almost purchased it once, but I am now very glad that I didn't. I looked at the pics. and they were pretty good. (although I do really prefer to view characters and scenes in my own head) I preceded to read the text, which I finished reading in about ten minutes! I'd say that this book was a really cool idea, but for a price around $7, I don't think that this is worth it.
awesome artwork.......2005-08-20
this book brings to life everything i imagined when reading the first several books. i know many people complained about this book not covering all of the territories. i am kind of glad it hasn't covered the books that have not yet been written. i would prefer to use my own imagination first. i believe there will be a follow-up to this book when the rest of the series is written.

THE BATTLE CONTINUES.
The struggle of good versus evil continues as Bobby Pendragon follows Saint Dane to the territory of Zadaa. Saint Dane's influence has fueled the fire of discontent between two warring tribes: the Rokador and the Batu. This is also the territory where the Traveler Loor lives as a member of the Batu. Together she and Bobby must work to thwart Saint Dane's efforts to destroy Zadaa.
But as Bobby pursues Saint Dane, he begins to notice changes in himself. He is no longer a flip kid looking for excitement. He is a young man beginning to see this quest as more than a series of adventures. He is also learning that as a Traveler, he had powers no normal human should have.

Great Continuation.......2007-06-18
DJ, you keep me waiting too long. I want you pumping these books out faster.I can't get enough!!!
What can I say.......2007-05-07
Hands down the best series I have laid my eyes on.
A review for a great book.......2007-05-06
This book is packed with twists in the plot, and suspense that make you feel as if you are on a roller coaster. With two different stories filled with adventure and sprinkled with love, you feel like you're with the characters. Whenever you think you have the answer to what's going on, you want to shout it out to the characters, but each time you are soon to be proven wrong. Once you start reading this book, it will be torture just to put it down. Whenever you aren't guessing what's going to happen next, you are cheering for Bobby because you think he's going to win, or worrying because he's going to lose this battle. He is always changing position in this battle, so you feel like you're on a roller coaster, just like what I said before.
After five battles against the shape-shifting demon named Saint Dane, Bobby Pendragon is swept into another battle yet again. Saint Dane's main goal is to destroy Halla, all places, planets, and times, for a still unknown reason. Using flumes, the connection between places in time in the universe called Territories (there are ten), Bobby chases Saint Dane into the next territory, Zadaa. As a Traveler, the only people who can use the flumes, Bobby must stop the evil Traveler, Saint Dane, from reaching his evil goal. On the dessert planet of Zadaa, people are facing famine, and two tribes who were once at peace are getting close to a quick and deadly war. The aggressive tribe, the Batu, suspect that the clever tribe, the Rokador, are holding all the water from the underground rivers. Bobby, with help from Loor and Alder, the Travelers from Zadaa and Denduron, must thwart Saint Dane's plans to push Zadaa into chaos, or else Halla will be one step closer to destruction.
Meanwhile, on Bobby's home Territory of Second Earth, Bobby's friends are facing the strangest problems. Mark Dimond, pure geek, has joined a club called Sci-Clops. Things are going great for him until his enemy, Andy Mitchell, joins the club. After joining the club, Mitchell has been nicer to Mark, and Mark is getting suspicious. To add to Mark's problems, he is also worrying about how Bobby is doing on Zadaa, and how Bobby's other friend, Courtney Chetwynde is doing. Courtney has gone to a boarding school, and has gotten a new boyfriend. Of course, her boyfriend and the new Andy Mitchell turn out to be someone else...
Notes:
-This is actually my book report.
-For people starting the Pendragon series, you should start at the first book.
-It has a plot very similar to the first Pendragon book, The Merchant of Death.
I hope you enjoy this book, it's a real Tum-Tigger!

The Rivers of Zadaa.......2007-04-13
The Rivers of Zadaa by D. J. MacHale is an action filled adventure with a bit of mystery. I recommend this book too kids who like reading long books.
The story begins with Bobby Pendragon wearing clothing every where too hide his skin walking next too Loor in an arena. Were Loor lives water is more valuable than gold. In the Zadaa he will meet his enemy Saint Daine and try too stop his evil plan. Saint Daine is a evil demon.
Bobby Pendragon is a 13-year old boy who is from 2nd Earth. Bobby is on Zadaa trying too stop a war from happening. Bobby Pendragon mis determined on his mission, and is helped by Loor and other friends along the way. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Bobby must wear a lot of clothing because the Razack are really white because they live underground, and the Batu are darker because they live at the surface. Bobby is smart, nice, and trustful, he an also heal fast from injury's.
I recommend this book too kids who like reading. Will Bobby exceed his mission? Read This book too find out!
loved it.......2007-03-25
Ok, first off the library review is totally and completely wrong about his book. I really liked it. I think that they did develop the characters a lot more than that review makes them out to. We learned a lot about Loor, and about Courtney, also we got a spine tingling new development in those last few pages. I just cant wait until I get to read the next book.

Fifteen-year-old Bobby Pendragon has visited the alternate dimension of Denduron (The Merchant of Death), explored the endangered underworld territory of Cloral (The Lost City of Faar), and traveled back in time on his own planet Earth to uncover the evil plot of the fiendish Saint Dane--the evil force behind all these interworld exploits (The Never War). Now he "flumes" (a kind of time/space travel) into the territory of Veelox expecting to wage another battle against evil... only to find all is peaceful. He quickly discovers the peace is due to the fact that most of the citizens of Veelox have become addicted to Lifelight, a virtual reality lifestyle. Unfortunately, what once seemed so safe and enjoyable has taken a frightening twist, and Bobby must rely on a Veelox Traveler named Aja to help him find a solution--and save the territory. His antagonistic relationship with the brilliant Aja grates on his nerves as she spits out cryptic words of wisdom: "Salvation here can be found in only one place: the imagination. If you can't understand that, you might as well flume out right now."
Fans of D.J. MacHale's Pendragon series will enjoy this latest entry, and look forward to the forthcoming fifth title. The attraction of the series is not so much great writing or character development as fast-paced action and edge-of-seat danger. (Ages 9 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

Not Living Up To Expectations.......2007-02-27
This book was pretty good especially the amazing detail of all of the crazy things such as lifelight. However, thats just as always (especially the things on Cloral.) Although it was detailed I really wasnt as " i cant wait to read this book whn i get home" as i was with the others. Its definatley worthy of a 4 star but nothing more because it kind of lagged in certain spots like with lifelight the same thing keeps happening. But as i said earlier, its worthy of a 4 star but nothing compared to the others; I hope book is going to be good and all the rest (especially book 8.)
Awesome!.......2007-01-29
This book seemed just a tad bit dreary as far as the world goes but nonetheless it was a totally great read!
THE BEST.......2006-08-23
in my opinion, this is the best installment in the pendragon series. i read it all in a few days. thats amazing becuz i'm one of the slowest readers in my class. :P this is an amazing book with the imagery, amusing metaphors and such. i won't say much for i fear i will ruin the ending, but i can say that this will be an excellent collection to your books. PENDRAGON RULES!
revealing.......2006-07-15
The fourth book in the series has the same idea as the first three but has a wicked, sudden ending. It gets you ready to begin the fifth book as soon as you've finished.
But what makes this book better is that a lot more is revealed in this book than in the others. It kinda refreshes the series to keep as in depth as it has been. Satisfying fantasy read.
Pendragon: A Journey through Time and Space.......2006-04-17
The Pendragon series is a group of journals written by Bobby Pendragon. Bobby sends his journals back home through a special ring that he wears. Bobby's friends, Courtney and Mark safeguard his journals at home. Bobby used to consider himself as normal, but not anymore. Ever since Bobby's uncle told Bobby that he had a special ability to travel through time and space, Bobby hasn't known what to think. The special ability he has lets him travel to different territories, which are like different dimensions or worlds. There are ten territories, and each one is different. When the ten travelers reach a territory, they find that it is at a turning point. The territory could either fall into chaos or advance on. There is only one traveler from each territory, and all of them must work together to save all the territories. The travelers want to save every place from absolute destruction. The only traveler who wants chaos for the territories is the villain, Saint Dane. He can wants to control them all.
This book takes place in a territory called Veelox. Veelox is a very advanced civilization. There are no wars on Veelox, because almost everyone is living in their own virtual reality, which is a lot like a very long, perfect, dream. They call these times they spend in the chambers 'jumps'. Pendragon was told by Veelox's traveler, Aja, that everything was fine. As it turned out, Aja wanted the challenge for herself. Pendragon soon found that Velox was in trouble and wondered what he could do to help. The entire territory would be doomed if people choose to keep living in virtual reality, because the food supply was almost gone. Aja showed him a disc containing a virus, her life's work, that would make people's jumps less than perfect. This would make things more like reality, which would cause people to exit their jumps and return to reality. The virus worked as planned, that is, until the virus became too powerful. The jumps soon turned into nightmares. The injuries and death sustained during the jump, became reality. As it turns out Saint Dane manipulated Aja into making the virus with it's flaws. Once again it's up to Pendragon to save the entire universe, and the only way he can do it is to go into the virtual reality chamber. This book would be enjoyed by lovers of science fiction, but I do suggest that you read the previous books in the series so you can better understand the special traveler terms.
Book Description
Let the Games Begin....
Quillan is a territory on the verge of destruction. The people have lost control of their own future and must struggle simply to survive. The only chance they have of finding a better life is by playing the Quillan Games. Hosted by a strange pair of game masters, Veego and LaBerge, the games are a mix of sport and combat. They use the people of Quillan as pawns for their amusement as they force them to enter competitions that range from physical battles, to impossible obstacle courses, to computer-driven tests of agility. To triumph in the games is to live the life of a king. To lose is to die.
This is the dangerous and deadly situation Bobby Pendragon finds on Quillan. He quickly realizes that the only way to save this troubled territory is to beat Veego and LaBerge at their own games and dismantle their horrible fun house. But there is more at stake for Bobby. The prize for winning the Quillan Games may be discovering the truth of what it really means a Traveler.
Customer Reviews:
Possibly the best in the series!.......2007-09-20
The Quillan Games is possibly the best of the Pendragon series! On the territory of Quillan, Bobby finds a dark, grim future where people would literally kill themselves by betting on the deadly and twisted Quillan games, with very dire consequences for losers of the bet. Bobby delves deeper into the society and finds the gut-wrenching truths behind their seemingly crazy behavior. The level of misery and hopelessness that mired this territory wasn't an easy read, but provides a chilling portrait of where other territories could be headed, including ours, if evil had its way. Anyone who is interested in bringing about a better world must read this book and heed its lessons! Ignore them at your own peril!
The whole territory reaks of Saint Dane of course, but Bobby learns that it got that way long before Saint Dane had a hand in it. He was merely "helping it" along. Down the path of their own destruction, that is. Bobby also learns more about the nature of the travelers from the most unlikely of all sources - Saint Dane.
The twists and turns never stop! DJ McHale is the master of surprise, stomach-dropping suspense and of course, adventures that challenges the imagination. Pendragon is possibly the best adventure series ever written. For kids and adults!
Quillan, First Earth bring the adventure.......2007-07-07
First of all, Im not a kid, I'm just too lazy to sign up for amazon.
This book is easily the best in the series and if not, then the never war is.
I Love This Series, But This One Falls a Tiny Bit Short.......2007-06-18
Maybe we aren't supposed to read these books one right after the other.
I was reading "Zadaa" when I received the next two books as a gift, and I got very excited because Zadaa was so engrossing. As soon as I finished the last page I picked up "Quillan". Maybe that was my mistake. As I said, maybe we aren't supposed to read these books one right after the other.
The first 200 pages really dragged. I have never noticed that the author spent so much time describing every detail for us. Maybe it was excessive in this book. I thought at first it was maybe that there is so much backtracking in his books (why does he think that every book is being read by someone who has not read any of the other books of this series?) but it wasn't the backtracking. It was the endless descriptions of uninteresting aspects of Quillan. Saint Dane doesn't even begin to appear until mid-way through the book. Up till that point, I really didn't care what happened on Quillan.
From then on, "Quillan" begins to shine as the other books have done so before it. The battle of wills between Boddy and Saint Dane really are the high points of the novels: will Bobby let himself be drawn in? Will Saint Dane gain a point against him? What is the plan for this territory?
I found myself wishing that the journal pages would finally end so we could find out what was happening with Courtney or Mark. While I suspected some of the revelations that come later in the book, many others were surprises and made for a satisfying ending (well, not for the story - Bobby and others are in the thick of it like never before - but the story getting back on track).
I customarily give the books of this series 5 stars, and had I rated it before page 244, it would have had 2-3 stars, but the author grabbed me again! Overall 4 stars.
The next book is sitting on my desk, but I will wait a little while before jumping into that flume!
P.S. Okay, so I couldn't wait to start the next book, and I'm sure glad I didn't wait. "Pilgrims of Rayne" is awesome!!!
pendragon.......2007-03-15
Have you ever wondered if there was more then one world out there? Well in my book Pendragon there are nine worlds.
My book is a science-fiction book. It is about a traveler named bobby Pendragon. He is 17 years old, and also the leader of the traveler. The book takes place on a world named Quilian. Bobby goes there because Saint Dane went there to try to take over the world.
I thought that this book was really good and I get it 4 out of 5. I do recommend this book because it is a good book and it has a lot of action and it leaves you hanging all the way till the end. I say this book is more for the 10+ age range because some of the humor in the book is for older people and it wouldn't make sense to little kids.
Book Seven scores a Seven on my scale.......2007-03-10
I really didn't find the Quillian Games that bad. It was exciting, and, I guess well-written, but not anything compared to the other books in the series. Boby is on his seventh terriotry, Quillian, a world where games are life, and if you get GAME OVER, your life is over and you are taken away but robotic police officers called dados. But Bobby will soon find out, he is about to become a "Challenger" in the biggest, deadliest games he has ever participated in. Saint Dane is holding the playing cards, and you wil be amazingly surprised at the twist and turns this book holds, and the spectacular truth a the end... it sounds like an amazing book, maybe the best one yet. Here are a few things that did not float my boat.It lacked creativity, and it kind of changed my view of Bobby's personality, which I'm really starting to dislike. It seems like, in one case, that Bobby is trying to be humble, but is still being a total braggart, in more ways than one.
And is it just me, or is D.J. Machale killing off Traveler's a little to easily?! It seems like the Pendragon series is starting to become a darker type; like Harry Potter [I'm talker about the "darkness" level here, not the story] almost. This is a warning to the author: lighten up, get more imagination, retrieve the lost humor, give back Bobby's personality, or you'll lose loads of your fans, and future fans.
Hey, did you see the next Pendragon book!? Book eight, the pilgrims of rayne! Coming May 8, 2007!! Bobby Looks like he 20! Hope its better than the last two.
Amazon.com
In Pendragon: The Merchant of Death, D.J. MacHale, the creator of several popular television series and Afterschool Specials, transplants the Pendragon name from Arthurian legend to modern-day junior high school. Fourteen- year-old Bobby Pendragon has it all; he's smart, popular, and a star basketball player in quiet Stony Brook, Connecticut. But a visit from Uncle Press soon topples all of that as Bobby learns that he is a Traveler, someone who can ride "flumes" through time and space. Bobby lands in Denduron, a medieval world where the gentle Milago are enslaved by the Bedoowan, and it's Bobby's job to free them. He reluctantly teams up with Loor--a girl his age from the warrior-territory of Zadaa--and other Travelers, recounting his adventures in journals that are magically transported back to his friends Mark and Courtney in Stony Brook. These first-person journals at times feel contrived--they're riddled with terms like "coolio" and "bizarro" and gnarly descriptions of vile sights and smells--but the book's thumping story soon scrubs away all such concern. The Merchant of Death keeps the pages flipping with steady action and near-constant mortal peril for its heroes, promising that both this and future volumes in the Pendragon series should be eagerly devoured. (Ages 10 and older) --D.J. Morel
Book Description
Bobby Pendragon is a seemingly normal fourteen-year-old boy. He has a family, a home, and even Marley, his beloved dog. But there is something very special about Bobby.
He is going to save the world.
And not just Earth as we know it. Bobby is slowly starting to realize that life in the cosmos isn't quite what he thought it was. And before he can object, he is swept off to an alternate dimension known as Denduron, a territory inhabited by strange beings, ruled by a magical tyrant, and plagued by dangerous revolution.
If Bobby wants to see his family again, he's going to have to accept his role as savior, and accept it wholeheartedly. Because, as he is about to discover, Denduron is only the beginning....

Great Series for Pre- Teens and older.......2007-07-12
I got this book out of the library by mistake but I loved it so much i had to buy the whole series. Their great for kids as well as adults. Written in a unique style their definetly worth checking out!
Another One Of My Favorites.......2007-07-06
Bobby is a lovable character. He has realistic reactions to the events that happen in this story. I always ask myself 'If I was in that situations, would I be able to think straight?'. The answer is always no so it's nice when he gets through it and saves the territory. It's amazing how D.J. Machale can make it seem like there's no hope to save each territory and somehow they always do (with one exception)
Pendragon: The Merchant Of Death.......2007-05-18
Bobby Pendragon was your regular everyday 14 year-old kid. He got good grades, was semi-popular, and was the Stoner Brook Middle School all star basketball player. All of that changed with one visit from his uncle press. Before he knew it, Bobby was in a strange territory (world) called Denduron. On Denduron, his uncle reveals to him that he is a traveler, a person who jumps from one territory to the next to protect them from a turning point that would send the territory into total chaos. So Bobby has to face all the challenges on Denduron and Saint Dane, an evil traveler. This book has an incredibly unoriginal idea but it is very well written making it enjoyable to read.
Bobby had to face many dangers during his adventure on Denduron, such as Saint Dain. Saint Dain is trying to send all of the territories into chaos so he can control Halla, which is everything, everyplace, and every time, so there is no room for failure of stopping him. Saint Dain makes several attempts to kill him (such as sending killer beasts called quigs after him) but fails.
MacHale did a very good job on this book. With how descriptive he is, I could see what the quigs actually looked like even though they aren't real (by the way, they look like rabid bears with giant yellow spikes on their back). I also loved how he described the sceanery. While Bobby was walking down a street you could picture even the small things that didn't matter like a plastic bag gliding through the air.
Sometimes while reading this book I would have been really scared for Bobby if I didn't see that there were still another hundred pages before the end of the book so I knew nothing was going to happen to him. One example is when Bobby is hiding from Saint Dane. It seemed like Saint Dane was looking straight at him, but he was stupid enough to not notice. It's actually sort of stupid that he didn't.
I really like science fiction so I was already drawn to the book. The fact that it was so good just put the icing on the cake. I recommend this book to anyone that doesn't mind reading a good book with an unoriginal idea.

A worthwhile read, even for adults........2007-05-13
As an elementary education major, I'm big into children's literature. I like to be tuned into what students are reading, what issues those books tackle, and what kind of real-world applicability they have. My cousin (14) recommended the "Pendgragon" series to me. She thought I'd like it because I'm a fantasy/science fiction sort of gal. (I love "Harry Potter" and "The Lord of the Rings", and I like "Eragon".)
I don't feel the need to go into the details of the story, since I'm sure other people have done that already. Suffice it to say that our hero, Bobby, is an average 14 year old kid whose world is turned upside down in a hurry, and he's forced to draw on every shred of intelligence he possesses to save himself and the people he cares about.
I liked a lot of things about this book, but I'll highlight the most important ones here. My favorite superhero is Batman because he's a regular human. He doesn't have superpowers. He just uses his smarts and quick-thinking to do great things. I feel the same way about Bobby. (I realize that he's a Traveler, and that gives him abilities other humans do not have, but he don't have superhuman strength, the ability to control minds, or anything else like.) He adapst to situations as they arise and hopes for the best. Having a hero like that makes kids understand that they can do great things, even though they're just kids. (I'm sure plently of adults will benefit from that lesson, too.)
Another thing I really liked about this story is that it addreses the difference between thinking like a weenie and acting like a weenie. Bobby, at times, thinks like a weenie. He doesn't want to deal with the problems that he faces. He'd rather run away and ignore them. As the story progresses, he realizes that that's a terrible thing to do, particularly when ,by running away, you condemn other people to terrible fates. Once that happens, he puts aside his reluctance and acts bravely. He also learns to accept the notion that it's ok to to be a mental weenie as long as, when it comes down to it, you don't act like one.
If you're an adult thinking about reading this book, you should know that, in tone, it's more like "children's literature" than some other popular series. "Harry Potter" and "Eragon", to me, are both written with a slightly more mature tone of voice. I'm not knocking "Pendragon" for that. It's just something you should be aware of. There's some "yo-ing" and "dude-ing" and stuff like that. This book is written for teens, after all.
Overall, I enjoyed this story. Just when I was thinking that the science fiction/fantasy genre had been pretty well covered, along came this. It's an interesting read, and a worthwhile one, too. After reading the first book, I ordered books 2 - 5. I recommend this book.
So Worth Your Time.......2007-04-23
Pendragon is one of my favorite book series of all time. I picked it up, not expecting much, and honestly, the only reason I bought it was because it was one of those 2.99 deals that they have in Borders. And when I see those I feel compelled by to buy them. But as I read, I just fell more in love with the characters, and the writing style. Mr. Machale presents such an amazing plot, while still keeping with the cultural lingo that kids speak today. He's funny, and resourceful, and each new book gets better and better. I can't say I've ever got anything better for 2.99 then pendragon. It costs me three dollars, but I've read it enough times that it would have been worth paying so much more for. Since then I've recruited my brother, and many of my friends into reading them. Trust me, they will be worth your time.
Book Description
The Pendragon Legend, set first in London and then in Wales, is a forerunner of a style currently fashionable, the philosophical thriller, though it combines other modes as well: upper-class comedy, murder-mystery and a ghost story with a compelling love interest. The mystical element is diffused through an increasingly complex plot, as all threads converge in the final chapters.

Book Description
Green Knight Publishing's latest original anthology is a collection of stories exploring the earliest days of Arthur's realm. What made Britain ready for the coming of Camelot? How were the Round Table's victories and failures foreshadowed in the deeds of Uther Pendragon, King Arthur's own father, or the tragedy of Vortigern, the tyrant who welcomed the treacherous Saxons as trusted allies? Legends of the Pendragon presents a wide range of tones and styles, with works from such notable authors as Phyllis Ann Karr, Cherith Baldry, Nancy Varian Berberick, Darrell Schweitzer, and others.

old friends with new faces.......2005-12-09
I'm one of those people who grew up loving the Arthurian mythos, and never stopped. I always enjoy a new take on the legends, particularly when the alternate possibilities are explored--what would be "alternate history" if we could prove that the legends were real!
For those who are interested, here is the table of contents:
Keystones by Shannon Appelcline
Hel's Daughter by Nancy Varian Berberick
Dragons of the Mind by Peter T. Garratt
Nimue's Song by Marcie Lynn Tentchoff
Forethought by Alex Kolker
The Time in Between by Beth Anderson
Tea and Company by Valerie Frankel
A Spear in the Night by Keith Taylor
The Likeness of Her Lord by C. A. Gardner
The Lesson of the Other by Steen Jensen
Squire Kay in Love by Phyllis Ann Karr
The King Who Is To Come by Cherith Baldry
Six for the Sword by Aaron Rosenberg
Jester's Luck by Gene Stewart
A Time of Blood and Steel by John H. Steele
The Enthronement of Arthur by Andrew H. W. Smith
The Last of the Giants of Albion by Darrell Schweitzer
The Scream of the Gulls by Joe Murphy
Follow by Clarissa Aykroyd
The Questing Girl by Cory Rushton
Arthurian Short Stories.......2005-03-08
Every now and then I get a hankerin' to read some tales of Arthur and his knights that were written in the modern era. Really, I'm too lazy to dedicate myself to a full novel, so it's fortunate that one can dig up Arthurian short story anthologies here and there. Since this volume at hand features a tale by Phyllis Ann Karr, author of the superlative "Idylls of the Queen" (starring the oft-maligned Sir Kay), I thought I'd give it a shot.
Besides Ms. Karr, the anthology also includes contributions by Cherith Baldry (author of another Sir Kay novel), Darrell Schweitzer, Peter Garratt, Keith Taylor (all of whom also were present in an unrelated anthology, "Shakespearean Whodunnits"), and more. Several of the authors are also RPG designers or have edited collections of fantasy game-related fiction.
My favorites from this volume were Alex Kolker's "Forethought", in which Merlin tells the story of Prometheus, "Tea and Company" by Valerie Frankel, about the domestic arrangements of Merlin and Niniane (Nimue), "A Spear in the Night" by Mr. Taylor, which tells of Merlin's meeting with a young Tor, Aaron Rosenberg's "Six for the Sword", which posits that Arthur was merely one of a half dozen possible candidates cultivated by Merlin to pull the sword from the stone, and John Steele's "A Time of Blood and Steel", which in some ways is about the unlikely friendship between Sir Brastias and Sir Ulfyus. Also good are Mr. Schweitzer's elegiac "The Last of the Giants of Albion" and Clarissa Akyrod's "Follow", which deals with Sir Pellinore and the Questing Beast.
This collection had a pretty good batting average: about half of the stories were very good, most of the rest were solid while not terribly exceptional, and only a couple were subpar. Overall, there's actually comparatively little written about Arthur himself and virtually nothing of Lancelot or Gawain or Guinevere. But quite a bit of Merlin, and of the pre-Arthur histories of Uther Pendragon and his predecessors, and much about the knights of lesser acclaim.
So if you crave a taste of Camelot, as it were, this should be quite your thing, especially if you'd like to delve into the dustier nooks and crannies of Arthurian lore. Whether you're a knight or damsel, or merely some contemptible churl, give it a shot.

Pendragon 1 .......2007-08-31
I thought this book was great especially how the author (D.J. MacHale) makes great visializations. This book had my attention from the very beginning. Pendragon or Bobby is an ordinary boy who gets sucked into this altenate deminsion by his uncle who needs him to save this world. Bobby is like a normal kid good at sports, friends and homework. Till one day his uncle comes to his house and asks him to help him so Bobby is like ok fine (what he doesn't know is that the truth is too much.) So he gets sucked into a midevil demension were two tribes are at the brink of war. That is were Saint Dane comes in he is a traveler like Bobby and his Uncle Press except Saint D. is the evil one. He is pushing this war secretly and know one knows. So basically Bobby has to stop the war with his friends Loor and Alder (both travelers) help him while Uncle Press is locked up by one of the Bedoowan tribe (the bad tribe.) My favorite part in the book is when the tak mine explodes beacause it gives so much detail it basically is sitting in front of your face. I thought this book was great and the second one is going good so far.
Couldn't put it down!.......2007-04-20
Bobby Pendragon was a regular boy with nothing particularly unique about him. He had a good life, a dog he loved, and the prettiest girl in the school had kissed him. He should be on top of the world, but where is Bobby Pendragon?
It all started right before the basketball game. It was getting dark, and Bobby had just shared the most wonderful (first) kiss with his crush since fourth grade. Suddenly he found himself riding on his uncle's motorcycle to another planet, tainted by death and enslavement. It is now his job to fuel a revolution and preserve the peace of this place forever. Can he do it?
From the beginning, my eyes were glued to this book; I read it in home room, at lunch, in study hall, and went home and read some more. I read so long my hands got tinted black with the print. I always got so engrossed in the reading, I didn't realize it was eleven thirty when I finished reading. Pendragon Book One, The Merchant of Death has my recommendation to anyone with a good sense of humor and love for fantasy. To me it is the book series to beat. **** 1/2 (out of five stars)

Bobby the Brave.......2007-03-06
Bobby is a boy who can travel through space and time, and fulfill his destiny of stopping the evil Saint Dane from taking over "Halla"which is every time, every place, and everybody. Pendragon (The Merchant Of Death) is the first in the series by D.J. Machale.
Bobby handles conflict from Saint Dane everywhere he goes.Uncle Press is Bobby's master who teaches Bobby everything he knows about being a traveler, so he can eventually stop Saint Dane.
The message of this story is to never give up.
Pendragon is my favorite series yet! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy.
Fantastic.......2006-10-12
Pendragon the Merchant of Death - By D.J MacHale
Pendragon the Merchant of Death is a good read for all interests. You never get bored. It's a fantastic journey about a boy named Bobby Pendragon who suddenly has to save another world. This story is mystery, action, comedy, and most other types of stories all put together. Bobby has no idea whats going on. He is attacked by huge quigs and strong knights wondering how things are back home. Most kids could relate to his thoughts about his situation. He starts with a regular life and all of a sudden his uncle comes over and tells Bobby to come with him. Bobby comes through a mysterious door to a new world called Denduron where he somehow has to help the Milago escape from the Bedoowan.
Like any other person in his shoes, he has no idea whats going on or what he's supposed to do. Bobby makes a few new friends and a few new foes as well. Most of the Milago have completly given up hope of being free. Bobbys' new friends Osa and Loor are the only people who can give him some answers, but it will take him a long time to understand it all.
This story has a few plot twists and you will most likely loosetrack of time while reading this book. Its not one of those books that defy the laws of nature even if in another world. I really do think highly of this book. Sometimes it gets a little predictable, but not in the way you would expect. You have an idea of what's going to happen but you don't know exactly when it will. From my opinion this book doesn't have many flaws. If you try to skim through it it will not make sence, but if your pacient you wont be disapointed!
Interesting.......2006-07-12
Bobby Pendragon is an original character. Normal teen that happens to be a travler. Interesting how Machale has created a whole different universe with unique character. Saint Dane, Bobby, Loor, Uncle Press, and many others. Not only is this book exciting to read, but very nicely written. Things are described in a way where you're there experiencing things with Bobby. But yet it is written to where it still has the young age lingo into it. I would recommend it for all ages, young or old.

Breaking the rules
Just when fifteen-year-old Bobby Pendragon thinks he understands his purpose as a Traveler -- to protect the territories of Halla from the evil Saint Dane -- he is faced with an impossible choice. The inhabitants of Eelong are in danger of being wiped out by a mysterious plague. The only way Bobby can stop it is to bring the antidote from another territory. Since moving items between territories is forbidden by the Traveler rules, if Bobby chooses to save Eelong he could endanger himself, his friends, and the future of every other being in Halla.

"Don't worry. It's pretty safe inside Leeandra.".......2007-06-06
I need to buy this book, if only because I'm mentioned on 76 pages of it, mostly in phrasings that Freud would have a field day with.
Thank you, Amazon, for the Search Inside! feature.
excellent!!.......2007-03-02
My son got me hooked on these books. We recently moved to India and I was dying for something to read. His friends introduced this series to him and after watching him chose to read these books over video and computer games, as well as TV, I knew I had to give it a shot. I was impressed. It constantly keeps a good flow of movement and action. Like my son, I had a hard time putting this down. We have always been Harry Potter fans, and I dare say I think this series is even better.
Marvelous!.......2007-01-29
This book is really imaginative and fun to read. I think this book delves more into the nature of the Travelers. It just makes you want to come back for more!
pendragon.......2006-10-11
Bobby Pendragon traveled to another territories. He went to find to see what Saint Dane is doing. Mark and Courtney found out what was happening to Eelong. Then they traveled to Coral to get the cure. Bobby finds the new traveler of Eelong. During the time Bobby found out that Gunny was there with the human gars at Black Water, he helped to get the gars safe to the rest of the gars at Black Water.
The Eelong traveler helps Bobby defeat Saint Dane. The book is okay, but from inside-people I heard that the other books are better. There were other books that I liked better. The other book I liked better is Small Steps (creator of HOLES). This is my first time reading the series, so I don't know everything that happens before Black Water.
