Book Description
A collection of pithy and inspiring sayings from America's favorite businessman that reveal his secrets of success
Like the sayings of the ancient Chinese philospher Lao-tzu, Warren Buffett's worldly wisdom is deceptively simple and enormously powerful in application. In The Tao of Warren Buffett, Mary Buffett -- author of three books on Warren Buffett's investment methods -- joins noted Buffettologist and international lecturer David Clark to bring you Warren Buffett's smartest, funniest, and most memorable sayings with an eye toward revealing the life philosophy and the investment strategies that have made Warren Buffett, and the shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway, so enormously wealthy.
Warren Buffett's investment achievements are unparalleled. He owes his success to hard work, integrity, and that most elusive commodity of all, common sense. The quotations in this book exemplify Warren's practical strategies and provide useful illustrations for every investor -- large or small -- and models everyone can follow. The quotes are culled from a variety of sources, including personal conversations, corporate reports, profiles, and interviews. The authors provide short explanations for each quote and use examples from Buffett's own business transactions whenever possible to illustrate his words at work.
As Warren says:
"You should invest in a business that even a fool can run, because someday a fool will."
"With enough inside information and a million dollars, you can go broke in a year."
"No matter how great the talent or effort, some things just take time: You can't produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant."
"Our method is very simple. We just try to buy businesses with good-to-superb underlying economics run by honest and able people and buy them at sensible prices. That's all I'm trying to do."
The Tao of Warren Buffett inspires, amuses, sharpens the mind, and offers priceless investment savvy that anyone can take to the bank. This irresistibly browsable and entertaining book is destined to become a classic.

Great book!! It's a must read!! .......2007-09-29
Want to learn about investing or get a feel for how the greatest investor of all time thinks!! Well, if you do, you better buy this book!! This book gives you a feel and idea of how the greatest investor of all time thinks through things!! One of the best books on Buffet I've ever read, if not the best!!! It's short and to the point!! Belongs on every serious investors book self!!Financial Statement Analysis: A Practitioner's Guide, 3rd Edition
THE TAO OF WARREN BUFFETT.......2007-09-29
MUST READ FOR ANY SERIOUS INVESTOR, HE TEACHES THE LONG TERM GAME, HE PROVES THAT ANYONE CAN GET RICH OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME IF ONE DOES NOT GET CAUGHT IN THE SHORT-TERM GAME.
INCREDIBLE BOOK! MUST READ!
one for the massess.......2007-08-09
This is a great book that everyone interested in being successul in life should read
Helpful to the amateur trader.......2007-05-29
In a day and age where one can easily and inexpensively manage a portfolio and trade on the stock market, this book provides helpful insights into the difference between investing and speculating. I hope consequently to be more prudent in the choice of my investments. In particular there is strong warning against the speculative type of investment in companies that are full of hopes but short on a solid track record.
Significant in this is Buffets avoidance of technology stocks.
Good words of wisdom if you are already familiar with Buffett's investing style.......2007-05-15
This book should not be your introduction to Warren Buffett's investing methods. For that I recommend "The New Buffettology" and "How to Pick Stocks Like Warren Buffett". However, for Buffett fans who already know how to pick great stocks at great prices, these words of wisdom will help you keep your eye on the ball.
I was saddened when I found out that the narrator passed away days before this audio book was published.

we write a quote in our elementary class each day and use this book as one of our references.
Great resource for quote lovers.......2006-08-10
This is one of those purchases where I really felt like I got my monies worth. I refer to the quotes within this book on a weekly basis as I offer a "final thought of inspiration" to my yoga students. Since my family is a group of bathroom readers, Ive also been thinking about doing a bathroom wall of quotes. This book offers a variety of quotes nicely arranged in categories. Great to sit, read and ponder!
great gift for the quote lover.......2005-09-19
I've purchased many copies of this little book over the past year. They are great girl friend books or for any quote lover. I've keep one on hand for myself and often reference it when I need some inspiration. Buy two, one to give away and one for you!
Very Good.......2004-07-31
I definitely enjoyed this quote book. I also recomend A Treasury of Spiritual Quotations, A Collection of Wisdom, and The Book of Positive Quotations
A great collection.......2002-03-02
Since college I have begun a quote book of my own. I found quotes that were inspiring, romantic, and helped put an interesting spin on life and certain circumstances. I found this book, picked it up and had to buy it. There were just so many quotes that I liked and could identify with or aspire to, but I couldn't possibly copy all of them in my own quote book. So, this is a welcome addition to my fascination with quotes. And I really enjoy the fact that the quoted individuals range from Confucious to Joe Namath...it provides an interesting perspective.
If you enjoy reading tidbits on happiness, attitude, dreams, forgiveness, success, overcoming obstacles and more then this would be a book to pick up. Otherwise, leave it for someone else to appreciate.

Book Description
Knitting finally takes its rightful place on the spectrum of personal obsessions, alongside golfing, fishing, and gardening. The tangled life of the knitter is the subject of inspired nuttiness in these 300 tongue-in-cheek meditations from the self-proclaimed yarn harlot, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee.
As any knitter can attest to, this is an activity fraught with guilt, frustration, over-optimism, sly deception, and compulsion, along with passionate moments of creative enlightenment. To soothe the unraveled knitter's soul, Pearl- McPhee has selected some of her favorite quotes to cast off from, and then, like the standup comic of the knitting world, she rants, raves, and reflects on common experiences that are sure to leave avid knitters in stitches.
At Knit's End captures the wicked — and wickedly funny — musings of someone who doesn't really believe it's possible to knit too much, and who willingly sacrifices sleep, family, work, and her sanity on a regular basis in order to keep doing it. Stephanie Pearl-McPhee has seen it all — from the deadly “second sock syndrome,” to a house so full of yarn she can't find her washing machine, to desperate all-nighters spent feverishly finishing gifts.
This hilarious collection of short, pithy readings offers plenty of reassurance for anyone who has ever wondered, “Am I alone in my mania?”
Customer Reviews:
This book had me rolling!.......2007-08-27
I loved this book so much I shared it with 3 ladies in my church congregation and bought a copy for my aunt. Stephanie Pearl-McPhee encourages knitters with this book using humor that even a non-knitter would enjoy. Thanks to her support, I no longer feel guilty about the tiny (but growing) stash of knitting paraphanelia and yarn that seems to be ebbing its way into my life.
No spoonful of sugar required!!.......2007-05-18
Honey, if you love to knit (of course you do) and you love to laugh (which is good for you) BUY THIS BOOK!!! Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's debut (I'm pretty sure.) Anyone who knits and reads books by Louise Hay or Alan Cohen will especially appreciate it.
It's a cute little postcard size-6" x 4" and 3/4" thick (320 pages total), perfect for the obsessive knitter who must read about knitting as well as do it.
About 99% of the pages open with a quote from the usual quotables-Greek philosophers, Confucious, Einstein; to the likes of Bo Derek and the ever popular Anonymous and some folks I've never heard of. Then our sweet Steph spins for us a profound knitting truth-funny, enlightening, educational or all of the above. This is nicely rounded off with an affirmation.
Interspersed are pages of 'You know you knit too much when...', but let's be honest-there's no such thing as too much knitting. Except maybe to the uninitiated.
It's a fun little distraction for first thing in the morning, last thing at night and throughout the day when your hands have cramped up but you can still crack open this little gem and turn the pages. It's also ideal for any knitter's bathroom.
not my taste of humor.......2007-04-16
I bought this because so many readers love it. I just don't think it was funny. It's just not my taste. It was odd. I guess because this writer has a huge following of fans.
Excellent.......2007-04-10
I have used meditations from this book at the beginning and end of leading our prayer shawl ministry. It's a wonderful and very humerous book. In fact, several of the ladies purchased it after hearing the meditations.

A great gift for any friend who knits!.......2007-01-11
I enjoyed this book so much that I bought one to give to a friend. It is
funny, entertaining and even profound, plus I learned several good knitting
hints. It can be read a few pages at a time, or re-read too. I loved it and have just purchased some other books by this author which I will be taking
on vacation with me. I can not imagine that a knitter, even a beginner, would not thoroughly enjoy this almost-pocket-size book.

Ho Hum ..... .......2007-09-26
While the thoughts and "wisdom" provided are beautiful, they seem a bit cumbersome for every day referral. A quick one liner would be more suitable and more apt to remain with us throughout each day. These seem pretty wordy even though the thoughts are terrific and inspirational. The length makes it difficult to wrap your arms around them and keep them in your thoughts throughout the whole day. The pictures are lovely but the whole "feel" of the book is not inviting to and welcoming to pick up and open to any page .... soft cover might be more conducive.
Offerings: Buddhist Wisdom For Every Day.......2007-07-25
I have been looking for this book ever since seeing it at a friend's house. Turning the page is a wonderful way to start each day, full of inspiration and insight. I have put this on my gift list of must buys for all of my friends! I keep my copy in my art studio for all visitors to enjoy.
The human condition in word and image.......2007-06-27
A deeply thoughtful collection of wisdom. Beautiful photographs accompany each daily entry. All about the spiritual and transitory nature of the human condition. A spectacular collection of photos and guidelines. Totally unique. By far and away one of my favorite books.
Love this book! .......2007-03-15
I reference this book when I need an inspiring quote, or a reminder on how to be a better behaved human being. It is full of rich wisdom and beautiful pictures.

Such a beautiful book. Inspiring and the photos are fabulous. I bought this for my mother for Christmas and I would love to buy one for myself. Great to start your day with a meditation from this book.

"Throughout Ernest Hemingway's career as a writer," says Larry W. Phillips in his introduction to Ernest Hemingway on Writing, "he maintained that it was bad luck to talk about writing." Hemingway seems to have courted bad luck. Phillips has amassed a slender book's worth of Hemingway's reflections on writing, culled from letters, books, interviews, speeches, and an unpublished manuscript. These musings are arranged into topics such as "Advice to Writers," "Working Habits," and "Obscenity" (of which there is plenty here). Sometimes ponderous, other times offhand, these thoughts form a portrait of a man driven to create not solely the best writing he could, but the best writing, period. Hemingway craved exactness, both in his work and in the work of others; he strove to make every word necessary. "Eschew the monumental," he wrote to Maxwell Perkins in 1932. "Shun the Epic. All the guys who can paint great big pictures can paint great small ones." His aim? Mere perfection. "I write one page of masterpiece to ninety one pages of shit," he confided to F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1934. "I try to put the shit in the wastebasket." --Jane Steinberg
Book Description
"Throughout Hemingway's career as a writer, he maintained that it was bad luck to talk about writing -- that it takes off 'whatever butterflies have on their wings and the arrangement of hawk's feathers if you show it or talk about it.'"
Despite this belief, by the end of his life he had done just what he intended not to do. In his novels and stories, in letters to editors, friends, fellow artists, and critics, in interviews and in commissioned articles on the subject, Hemingway wrote often about writing. And he wrote as well and as incisively about the subject as any writer who ever lived....
This book contains Hemingway's reflections on the nature of the writer and on elements of the writer's life, including specific and helpful advice to writers on the craft of writing, work habits, and discipline. The Hemingway personality comes through in general wisdom, wit, humor, and insight, and in his insistence on the integrity of the writer and of the profession itself.

Customer Reviews:
Good excerpts from Hemingway. Not a comprehensive book on the subject of writing.......2007-06-03
I found the book interesting enough for a quick glance, but not fascinating enough to recommend it as a must-have. The book is comprised of excerpts from different sources that deal with the topic of writing. Since Hemingway never wrote extensively on the topic of writing, he considered it bad luck; this is the most thorough book on the subject for Hemingway fans. But BECAUSE Hemingway never wrote much on the subject, the reader has to settle for an incomplete tome on the subject of writing.
In conclusion this is the best book on Hemingway's thoughts on writing, but not a comprehensive book on the subject.
Hemingway Uncensored.......2005-11-15
Eye-opening excerpts from many Hemingway letters to his closest friends, typos and all. Insightful and revealing. A must-have for any Hemingway fan or aspiring writer. Mice: Pick this up at your own peril. This is true Hemingway, he pulls no punches. Such a short read though, regrettably much too short, although the Hemingway gems scattered throughout this sparse booklet are still well worth the price. Being that he never intended this material to be published, it shows his honesty as a writer as much as it reveals in snapshot style, his honesty in how he lived and survived his short, magnificent life. It's editor (Phillips) unwittingly perhaps, might have made Hemingway proud after all. Including not one, but many of the truest sentences you'll ever read.
Author should be ashamed........2005-06-24
This book is little more than sentence fragments and out of context quotations attributed to Ernest Hemingway. This book is not the least bit useful to a person interested in learning to write better. This book is not useful to a person hoping to learn more about the life or character of Ernest Hemingway.
The book is 140 pages, but each page has almost as much white-space as text.
This book is a sham, a scam, a ruse. [...] Or perhaps "assembled" would be a better word. [...]
Save your money. Don't buy this book.
Publisher's tricks.......2004-11-26
This is a review of the product (paperback version), not of the writing, nor of the editor's selections, which are well reviewed by other customers. I bought the book online so I did not get a chance to leaf through it before buying it. Had I been able to do so, I would probably not have bought it. The publisher has used every possible trick to stretch the limited quantity of material over as many pages as possible.
The main culprits are the huge margins. I measured the area of the page, and then the area used for printing the actual content (excluding the chapter and book names at the top and excluding the page number at the bottom) and found only 41% was being used. As a rough comparison, Stephen King's 'On Writing' (paperback version) uses almost 63% of the page.
Then there is the separator between quotations - over two centimeters for each. On pages containing three of them, almost 40% of the content area is taken up by these separators.
The first page of each chapter (there are thirteen chapters in a book of 140 pages) also wastes more space than necessary - 45% to 48% percent of the page is used for the chapter heading.
I could not enjoy this book because I was constantly distracted by the realization that I had bought a very small book dressed up to look much bigger.
He won the Nobel Prize in Literature for a reason.......2003-11-23
Of course, I've read everything he wrote, but I wasn't prepared to get the key information on writing enclosed in this little book. Most people think Hemingway was a rough and tumble guy who wrote in his spare time when he had the urge. Most other times, the legend goes, he was too busy drinking, fishing, or womanizing. This book clearly shows that ain't so. He spent most of his time, the way real writers do: Writing and thinking about writing. Often he would check into a hotel, let everyone know he was there, and then stay somewhere else so as not to be disturbed from his main mission. The gems of informations depicted here come in the form of advice to the Mice (H's term for young student writers) from Y.C. (your correspondent). Did you know, for instance, "Most live writers do not exist. Their fame is created by critics who always need a genius of the season, someone they understand completely and feel safe in praising, but when these fabricated geniuses are dead they will not exist." Or how about this gem: "If an sonofbitch could write he wouldn't have to teach in college." Particulary interesting is Papa's advice to writers about reading. He was of the opinion that most writers write too much and don't read enough. His advice is to master Tolstoi, Flaubert, Mann, Joyce, Fielding, Mark Twain, Stendhal, Dostoevskis, Crane, Kipling, Turgenev, Hudson, James, (on and on so fast you can't write them down, three times that many) before you start writing. Very good advice, I would say. His point being you must first read the literature before you can write literature. This book does omit one piece of advice that H never gave but which he practiced by example. He memorized the King James Bible (cf Moveable Feast) and could recite it by heart. He did this to get down into the very structure of his brain the cadences that express beauty and truth effectively. The secret of his terse style is therefore the secret of clear and simple expression as in that wonderful version of the Bible.

Customer Reviews:
Everybody should have one of these!.......2007-07-14
I loved this little book! This is the result of a dad sitting down to write out a few words of wisdom and advice for his son who was going off to his freshman year at college. The first list was 511 entries, and then, he mailed his son a new collection every two years.
There's some great advice all through this book! And no long stories attached either. Short and straight to the point, each numbered piece of advice is no more than a few lines long. The suggestions cover a broad range, some are serious while others are funny or trivial, but all are honest and good advice, and many are just interesting. Like #841: "When your dog dies, frame his collar and put it above a window facing west" -I've never heard of that before.
I highly recommend this little book as a gifts for anybody in your life and for anything from birthdays to graduations or just because. Would also make a good coffe table or bathroom book too.
Great advice to give college students.......2007-06-02
I purchased these books for a group of college students that worked together as a staff. Some graduating, some still studying. I can only hope they do take the time to read it (here and there - not all at once) and it helps each one of them be better people. I believe this book has the ability to create role models and help people to treat others with kindness.
A delightful thing to have lying around..........2007-04-02
I first found this book on a bargain shelf at my local bookstore and picked it up for just 4 or 5 dollars. It really was a good buy.
It really is not a book that one would want to pick up and read but rather a book that you would want to have lie on your desk at work or on your coffee table at home so that visitors (or clients) can pick it up and turn to a random page and find any assortment of good philosophical sayings.
Each time I pick it up I find myself smiling at the fact that it gives something new each time you open it. With over 1500 entries, it really does give advice on everything. It gives advice on the things that we ethically know, but not necessarily are written down anywhere.
I bought a second copy not long ago for a friend of mine for a Christmas gift. It's a simple little thing that can make a big reaction.
Complete Life's Little Instruction Book.......2007-02-08
H. Jackson Brown, Jr. is among the best advice givers in today's world of literacy. This book is the best gift for anyone starting a whole new lifestyle. I recommend this book to all young adults, especially those who will soon go on to College. For the game of life is always a hard game to play for young and old alike, and we can ALWAYS use a little or a lot of motivation every now and then.
Bobby's review.......2006-03-28
I really like this book. Especially, the golden / brown hard cover is beautiful. I had bought Vol 1 and 2 about 11 years ago and lost them. So, I decided to buy the new one.
The content inside is very touching. I have really exercised several key ideas of the book which is resulting in a better way of life and thinking.

Book Description
A work of humanity on a universal scale, a work of reconciliation between nature and culture, Indian Wisdom celebrates those who live in harmony with the forces of earth and sky, who aspire to nirvana-the highest level of heart-, body-, and mind-consciousness. This remarkable book by Danielle and Olivier Föllmi, authors of 15 previous books on Buddhism, presents the wise words of a great master, philosopher, or poet for every day of the year, accompanied by Olivier's beautiful, moving photographs of Indian people and places. The effect is transformative, awakening our senses and preparing our souls to receive these simple yet profound teachings.
Contemporary specialists on Indian culture have contributed to Indian Wisdom, which draws on such ancient yet timeless sources as poems by Rabindranath Tagore and Krishnamurti; the longest epic in world literature, the Mahabharata; and the most significant of the Hindu sacred writings, the Vedas. A treasure in both content and form, this inspirational book artfully conveys the essence of India. AUTHOR BIO: Danielle and Olivier Föllmi have written 15 books about Buddhism, including Abrams' Buddhist Himalayas. They are the official photographers of the Dalai Lama and recipients of the World Press award. The Föllmis divide their time between the Alps and the Himalayas.

Thoughtful daily gems, if you are willing to think a little........2007-02-16
This is a lovely book, with breathtaking photos that accompany equally powerful daily written words of "wisdom." The book is great as a gift for a special person because it is smart, priced well, and very pretty, but it functions on a more meaningful level for those ready to receive its message. Personally, I think the writings are strong selections of some of the best ideas of the humanities, and I find the book inspiring each and every day.
Another daily treasure!.......2007-02-16
My wife and I have a special time each day where we sit together and read to each from our library of inspiration literature. We have two of the Follmi's books, this one, Wisdom, and Offerings. Our inspirational and meditative reading time is not complete until we read the passages for the day from each of these books. I especiall like their selections and the references to the photographs which are exquisitly beautiful. The Follmi's books will nourish your heart, mind, and soul.
Wisdom.......2006-07-10
A beautiful book that is inspirational in both its pictures and pearls of wisdom.
as wise as it is beautiful.......2006-03-04
The authors have chosen the quotations well and matched them with beautiful pictures. I am an American and have lived in India for over 22 years in an ashram. Many attempts to capture the spirit of India, especially by foreigners, seem to ring false, but this one combines a range of moods in the pictures and a range of depth in the written selections. It is a joy to read every day.
sheer wisdom.......2006-01-31
absolutely breathtaking pictures which capture the very essence of india and convey incredible peace. the thoughts are just what we need everyday to remind us of the "big picture" and look around, above and beyond ourselves to get a little wiser...

President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, collaborated on a daybook project in which they would jot down passages from their reading that moved them in some way. RFK continued the project after his brother's death in 1963, and would frequently use the quotations in it as source material for his speeches.
Maxwell Taylor Kennedy, Robert's youngest son, has drawn upon that journal, as well as material from his father's speeches, to create a unique portrait of RFK's spirit and character. In addition to his own powerful testimony to his passion for social justice, we learn that Robert Kennedy was able to learn as much about the meaning of freedom and justice from Albert Camus as he was from Thomas Jefferson or Abraham Lincoln. The concern with civil rights, pacifism, and America's role in the international arena (among other issues) that permeate Kennedy's thoughts are as relevant today as they were in the 1960s. Make Gentle the Life of This World is a stirring reminder of one of this century's strongest political visions.
Book Description
Throughout the 1960s, Robert F. Kennedy kept a private journal of favorite quotations, recording the philosophies of great leaders and thinkers throughout history. Thirty years after his father's tragic death, Maxwell Taylor Kennedy has culled the highlights of this journal, along with moving portions of Robert Kennedy's most memorable speeches, to create an inspiring, immortal voice for his father's vision. With passages on freedom, democracy, civil rights, education, justice, tragedy, and peace, Make Gentle the Life of This World speaks powerfully to America's unstoppable drive for a better world. Complemented by poignant photographs of Robert Kennedy, this is an extraordinary tribute to an extraordinary hero, whose dream for America has never been extinguished.

Great Insight Into His Thoughts.......2007-07-23
I liked this book. I give this book 5 stars. This book gave me the chance to read some of his thoughts that he had recorded in his personal journal(daybook). One quote that I really liked is " I know there is a God and that he hates injustice. I see the storm coming and I see His hand in it. If He has a place and part for me, I am ready". For me, it has renewed my sense that I as well as my country need to get up from the sleep or the spell we our under that has led us down the wrong path, and get active again in trying to get this country on the right path.
Wisdom for Our Times.......2007-01-05
This is an excellent selection of Robert F. Kennedy's words. It's amazing how applicable RFK's ideas are to our own times.
A true desert island book...........2006-09-18
Anyone who is ever at a point in their life where they are doing any type of soul-searching would find the thoughts and words expressed here invaluable. After experiencing the worst tragedy, Robert Kennedy makes an incredible change....inside and then outside. Those of us who were not alive or old enough to remember do have books and videos to try and tell us his story. But his son goes beyond that and really gives us something more by sharing all the ideas that made up the man.
If you are looking for info about RFK, well, you'll get something here....BUT...even more, this book will help you grow and become a better human being...and maybe even become that "tiny ripple of hope" in your world.
Weep, yes, but then be inspired.......2006-08-27
For those who missed the time in which those now called "Reagan Democrats" and those opposed to the ongoing war in Vietnam were inspired by the same voice, especially who cannot even begin to imagine how that could be, this small book is a must-read that will enable you to experience what is possible through inspiring [rather than angry divisive cynical] leadership.
Some quotes from the book, which seems as if it could have been written this morning:
"An understanding of what America really stands for is going to count far more than missiles, aircraft carriers, and supersonic bombers."
"Insurgency aims not at the conquest of territory but at the allegiance of man. ... Counterinsurgency might best be described as social reform under pressure...any effort that becomes pre-occupied with gadgets and techniques and force is doomed to failure."
"Thus does false principle destroy the credibility of our wisdom and purpose that is the true foundation of influence as a world power."
"America was a great force in the world, with immense prestige, long before we became a great military power. That power has come to us and we cannot renounce it, but neither can we afford to forget that the real constructive force in the world comes not from bombs but from imaginative ideas, warm sympathies, and a generous spirit.
These are qualities that cannot be manufactured by specialists in public relations.
They are the natural qualities of a people pursuing decency and human dignity in its own undertakings without arrogance or hostility or delusions of superiority toward others, a people whose ideals for others are firmly rooted in the realities of the society we have build for itself."
"Whatever the costs to us, let us think of the young men we have sent there: not just the killed, but those who have to kill; not just the maimed, but those who must look upon the results of what they do."
[AND, to remind us not to sink into frustrated despair at our current mean-spirited divisive administration, RFK's words spoken in courage during the dark days of Apartheid in South Africa:]
"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."
"Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of those acts will be written the history of this generation."
READ THIS AND WEEP OVER THE TOTAL COLLAPSE OF OUR CULTURE CIVILIZATION AND OUR ONCE GREAT NATION.......2006-08-10
Imagine the entrenched bush having his notes and jottings gleaned of classical quotes of personal inspiration. The difference between a Harvard and a Yale education? Or is it deeper than that?
This book reveals the inner thoughts of our great leader whose career for peace and justice was cruelly cancelled in midstream at his highest point. This great man was our once future president and would have brought us through so many dull crises to follow. TO read these quotations is to realize fully what we have lost. And yet in reading them we sow the golden seeds within ourselves of resurrection and of wisdom. Live this book. Contemplate this book. Breath this book.
Get this book. And one for all of your friends. It is eternal, as it draws from the ancients, unto our modern age. It is balm in Gilead for our present strife and petty fatal political bickerings. We once were great. Let us remember in peace and grow great again as a nation and a people and as individuals.

Book Description
An alcoholic is someone whose feet are firmly planted in thin air. You can always tell an alcoholic. But you can't tell him much. "The most important part of enlightenment is to lighten up," according to Bachom and Ross. Anyone who has ever felt humor's power to heal will second this saying -- and will find a wealth of wit to support it in this delightful book. A collection of quips and wise sayings, epigrams and home truths that have seen so many through troubled times and recovery. Denial is Not a River in Egypt delivers dose after dose of the best medicine. Embellished with whimsical hieroglyphics, these well-chosen quotations on fear, denial, insanity, ego, resentment, acceptance, healing and laughter can brighten our day in any stage of recovery. A great gift idea. Sandi Bachom has worked as a freelance producer of television commercials for twenty-five years. She lives in New York City with her husband and son and has been in recovery for more than ten years. Don Ross is the coauthor and illustrator of a line of children's books. He lives in San Francisco and develops websites.

A Great Book For People In Recovery .......2006-02-24
I saw the book Denial Is Not A River In Egypt years ago but I didn't even pick the book up. The title stuck in my head, heh I told my self if I ever saw it again I'd read the book. has a lot of slogans in the book that I've heared,But here they are in print. I'll read it again many times over.
Cute, but sort of dorky.......2003-08-07
This is good for people with "Short Attention Span" disorders. But, I'm probably missing the point. That's probably what it's for. I can't quite dis the quotes and don't want to, but it's frothy, kids. And yet, maybe frothy, light and somewhat easy reader-ish is what you desire. After all, they can't all be heavy handed recovery books. You read a bunch of those and you need a drink all over again! So buy it used, that's what I did, it's cheaper that way.
A wonderful collection of witty but powerful aphorisms.......2003-07-11
The author is a recovering alcoholic and the title reflects a turning point on her own journey of recovery. She had stopped drinking and, since she had hitherto equated having a good time and drinking, she was looking ahead to a rather moribund life. But she overheard someone quip, "Denial Is Not a River in Egypt" and she involuntarily found herself laughing out loud for the first time in her sobriety. This led her to start collecting similar aphorisms and finally to publishing them in the insightful book.
There are many of the aphorisms that are fairly specific to someone who is in or has been in a 12 step recovery program, but they are mostly applicable to anyone. One that has helped me a lot is: "I do not have to attend every argument I am invited to." They are grouped under some of the key headings related to recovery such as "Fear," "Denial," "Resentment" and "Acceptance." But these are all issues on the path toward wholeness period. Some of my other favorite sayings are: "Resentment is like taking poison in hopes your enemy will die;""Religion is for people who are afraid they are going to hell; spirituality is for those who have been there;" "A closed mouth gathers no foot."
And then there is one extended parable that I particularly appreciate:
"A woman is standing on a beach with her son when a giant wave picks him up and takes him out to sea. The woman frantically prays, "Dear God, if there is a God, please return my son!!!"
At this moment, the next wave rolls in and safely deposits her son near her on the shore. The woman rushes to his side, then turns and shouts up toward heaven,
"Where did his hat go?"
I hope that these "samples" will whet your appetite because this is a book crammed with "wisdom" that is superb. True laughter comes from the profound insight that is laid out in Psalm 8, where the author recognizes that utter insignificance of humans when one looks at the whole universe the Creator has fashioned and muses how amazing it is that the Creator even sees the speck that each of us is. And yet that same Creator has "crowned" us with a wondrous capacity if we only recall where it came from. "Denial..." follows in that tradition.
Da book is da bomb.......2001-11-20
At least that's what I tell myself. Granted, that may all be denial (not to be confused with da river in Egypt). Dis book has helped me to see da humor in life. You'd think that da author, Sandi Bachom, is the queen of de Nile, but that would make her Cleopatra. Instead, she is de master (or would that be da mistress?) of de quip, de witty remark, da funny comment--all of which I have found helpful in overcoming anxiety, anger, and depression. Humor is da best medicine for some many things; if only we could teach everybody such eternal truths.
humor cures all..........2001-05-14
I absolutely love this book. I keep it in my car to help remember to laugh when I am in traffic. It helps to keep me real and remember that I do not have power over people, places and situations.
