Book Description
Fundamental Managerial Accounting Concepts 3e by Edmonds/Edmonds/Tsay focuses on concepts that are isolated and introduced in a logical sequence. The authors intentionally limit the scope of the material to help students build a solid foundation of the most important concepts in managerial accounting. Fundamental Managerial Accounting Concepts 3e is organized in a distinctive way, particularly in the first six chapters. The objective is to establish a coherent, integrative framework that enables students to build knowledge in stepwise fashion. The authors’ goal is for students to understand the underlying principles of accounting, not just memorize content.

Great for Non-Accountants.......2006-10-19
I found the book to be attractively put together and full of examples. They address both manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments - including service industries. Managerial Accounting is a vital tool for businesses as it provides techniques for making better business decisions based on data instead of "hunches". Nonetheless, the material can be difficult to get through. The authors understand this and use real-life examples to help give insight as to the way businesses use these analysis techniques. Because the material can be challenging, I can understand some people finding the material boring. However, given the type of material, I feel the authors have done a commendable job in communicating the material in an appealing way.
Boring read for good subject.......2002-04-17
Reading through this book is a BORE! :( Examples are almost non-existant, there's like nothing (like definitions) on the sides of the pages, and no glossary. How poorly written! Please find an alternative to learn this rather interesting subject. Thank you!

Disappointing.......2001-05-01
Having previously read "Fundamental Financial Accounting Concepts" by the same people, this book was a disappointment. It came off as incredibly dry, and was not all that clear in its presentation of the concepts. The "Fundamental Financial Accounting" volume is great, but I'd recommend another author for the managerial book.
Book Description
Students are often overwhelmed by the amount of information presented in the introductory financial accounting course. By focusing on fundamental concepts in a logical sequence, students are able to fully comprehend the material rather than memorize seemingly unrelated terms and topics. The goal of Fundamental Financial Accounting Concepts is to enable students to understand how any given business event affects the financial statements. The "financial statements model" is a highly praised feature because it allows students to visualize the simultaneous impact of business events on all of the key financial statements (the income statement, the balance sheet, and the statement of cash flows). The mechanics of accounting coverage (debits and credits) is delayed until chapter 4. Instructors have flexibility as to the amount of emphasis they want to place on this topic.

Best book on the market.......2006-01-07
I'm a professor at a large state university. On the rare occasions when I teach this course, I always order the Edmonds book.
I believe the purpose of introductory or fundamental financial accounting is to teach students how to read and use finanacial statements. If used properly by the instructor, this is one of only two books on the market (the other is for MBA students) that can be used for this purpose.
I whole-heartedly endorse the horizontal model used by Edmonds, et. al. Most text book writers use a form of it. I even use it in my writings.
Some students want to learn debits and credits. In my opinion, this is best left to technical courses in accounting for those interested in the nuts and bolts.
However, for anyone who want to get something long-lasting from the course, this text book combined with the right professor, will be about the only option.
If this or any text book is used to teach technical aspects at the fundamental level, you won't have a good experience. Techinical aspects are best covered in Intermediate Accounting.
Better download the PowerPoint®.......2005-08-01
This text is abysmal. It is riddled with errors and omissions, gives incomplete examples, and presents information unsequentially. It relies too much and for too long on the horizontal model without practical applicatoin to journals and statements. If your college uses this text (as Medaille College and Finger Lakes Community College currently do) run away!
Fortunately, many of the gaps are filled in by the PowerPoint® presentations they make available on their support site: http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0072472960/student_view0/ Note that these presentations are more extensive than the ones on the Topic Tackler CD that comes with the book. You must download these presentations if you want to have a chance with this book.
A good book with the right instructor.......2002-08-02
I've read the reviews stating that this is a confusing book. I disagree completely. Although the author does not immediately delve into traditional T-accounts, the introduction of the "horizontal model" serves as a good foundation for building the awareness of the accounting equation that should be second nature BEFORE tackling T-accounts. The text's preface states: "A horizontal financial statements model replaces the accounting equation as the predominant teaching platform. The model enables students to VISUALIZE THE SIMULTANEOUS EFFECTS OF A SINGLE BUSINESS EVENT on the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows." I felt as though this methodology was very effective for my learning style. Recording transactions in T-accounts came almost as second nature after mastering the horizontal model.
The "Working Papers" (a separate workbook) makes doing the assigned problems easy by providing a ready-made template for each problem. If you've had to draw your own T-accounts or your own journal in a notebook before, you will definitely appreciate this.
This text serves as a good introduction to the skills necessary to master financial accounting.
Most Confusing Accounting Textbook On The Market Today........2000-10-27
This Book begins using something called horizontial statments and then in chapter 5 switches to regular T accounts thus confusing students completely, I have yet to find a student that tells me the book is easy to understand or useful. It would be helpful if there was a solutions manual. Our school will change books next semester. It's not even good enough to make dorm furniture.
Great college companion!.......2000-10-20
This book is an excellent book to go with a Financial Accounting course. Everything is laid out in plain English, and shows you in diagrams and models exactly how each kind of transaction works. I recommend for professors everywhere to adopt this book for their clases. I'm glad mine did!

Family Fun.......2007-01-21
We have two pre-teens and love to play games, especially while camping. We had an old Hoyles book and started to go through different variations of poker, and the kids ate it up. Now they each have their own books, and they experiment with different games together all the time. IMHO, this is so much better for them than video games or TV that words can't express my appreciation for this gaming institution.
a great buy.......2006-12-05
I bought this book because, although I love card games, I play pretty infrequently and often forget the rules. This book contains rules and generally clear descriptions of play for an incredibly long list of games. In addition to card games, the book covers many board games, such as Scrabble and chess, and even a few computer games. There is no question that there are books that cover individual games in much more depth, but it's hard to argue with the low price of this volume when it comes to the sheer number of brief descriptions of games that it offers. Highly recommended to have on hand.
Perfect.......2006-06-04
For anyone who plays card games and other popular games, like backgammon, checkers, and chess, this book is absolutely essential. This book is next to the table so whenever anyone plays cards in my family the book is at hand. Any time I have a question on how many cards to deal for a game or how to total points or anything, we use this book. Recommended.
Hoyle's Rules of Games, Third Revised and Updated Edition.......2006-02-26
Great Book of games, only problem is the print is very tiny.
Sine qua non.......2000-12-13
Unless you have been part of a weekly poker game, you may not understand why I like this book, particularly the section on "ethics and etiquette," so much. There really is some honor among thieves. Life really is more fun (and chaos more enjoyable) when we adhere to the letter and spirit of the rules.

Book Description
This book is a complete survival guide for first-time knitters - and more experienced knitters - who need help in the middle of the night with project errors.
Call them knitting nanas, call them knitting fairy godmothers, authors Marion Edmonds and Ahza Moore are here to hold your hand and tell you everything is going to be all right. Whether your knitting pattern appears to have been written in Aramaic, you've dropped a stitch (or a whole bag full of stitches), you've forgotten to increase, you've been knitting in the wrong pattern sequence for 4 rows, or you can't get your head through the neck hole of your newly knit sweater, Marion and Ahza will give you level-headed advice on what to fix, how to fix it, and when you can just fudge it. With 119 years of knitting experience between them, they've seen it all and fixed it all. For beginners and more experienced knitters alike (the more experienced you are, the more elaborate the mistake), When Bad Things Happen to Good Knitters should be in every knitter's yarn bag.
Customer Reviews:
WONDERFUL BOOK.......2007-09-04
A MUST HAVE FOR ALL KNITTERS. THIS BOOK HELPS YOU PREVENT MISTAKES AS WELL AS FIX THEM. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
The knitters little helper.......2007-08-06
This book is the knitter's little helper. I have thumbed through this book and have read excerpts here and there and leaned some handy little hints. I have not had to use this book yet but added it to my knitting bag so that it goes with me everywhere. It has everything from assembling a tool kit to what should I do if I don't like my project. A perfect little survival guide. A great purchase!
Great Book, Big Mistake in No Index.......2007-07-09
This is a wonderful book. It has some great hints and tips on how to correct mistakes, but also how to avoid them in the first place. The writing style is very readable. It is laugh out loud funny in many spots. I like that the authors share their own mistakes as well. The reason I can't give it 5 stars is the lack of an index! It is so frustrating that I won't be able to actually *find* the fix when I need it. Why would a company release a reference book without an index? I understand the book is worth reading from cover to cover. However, when I make a mistake, I want to correct it quickly. I don't want to have to browse the entire book to find the correct passage with the helpful information. Please, when there is a reprint, put in an index! I would probably buy a new edition for that alone. As it stands, I will reach for Knit Fix first because it has an index. I don't think the information is as comprehensive overall, but I can find the info I am looking for quickly.
I learned all this the hard way!.......2007-05-30
This is an invaluable source of info written in a fun and entertaining way. Great for new knitters who want to avoid some headaches, and a great set of reminders for those of us who don't want to repeat old mistakes. A terrific gift for any knitting friend.
Excellent Emergency Knitting Book.......2007-04-11
This book provides a great overview of knitting including reading patterns, gauge, and solving problems. The information is presented in an easy to understand and often humorous manner. This book has something for the beginner to the experienced knitter. The size is perfect for carrying in your knitting bag. Very well done!
Book Description
Survey of Accounting is designed to cover both financial and managerial accounting in a single 16-week course, presenting the material in a style easy for non-accounting majors to grasp. It incorporates the same pedagogical innovations that have made Edmonds' financial and managerial titles such fast-growing successes in the marketplace, including his unique Horizontal Financial Statements Model and a multiple accounting cycle approach that demonstrates the impact of related events over a series of accounting cycles.

Wonderful Book!.......2007-07-24
I bought this school for a graduate level class on accounting. I took several accounting classes as part of my undergraduate studies and this book blows the other accounting books I've used away. This book is written in a very easy to read and understand way. It provides clear and straightforward examples for nearly every concept. Also, although I started reading this book thinking it would just be a good review, I have found that I am still learning a lot from it. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in accounting!

Every black man should read this book.......2006-04-27
Dr. Smith;
When I read your book, "More Than Sex: Reinventing The Black Male Image", back in 2000, and I just had to commend you on producing a must-read capable of transforming the lives of black men-and I was speaking from personal experience. I was, at the time, a 40-year-old, soon-to-be divorced, devoted father of three. I'd been separated from my wife for more than two years (our second separation) and celibate for all of that time, as I began to cope with the frustrating realization that I had been a consistent failure in my attempts to establish the kind of lasting, fulfilling, healthy, loving relationship with a woman that I've longed for since I was a little boy. I am the oldest of four children of divorced parents. I hadn't seen my father since I was 12, and with the exception of my paternal grandparents, there are few, if any, examples of healthy marital relationships among the aunts and uncles on either side of my family. I knew what I was looking for in a marriage; I had only during those two years at the conclusion of my marriage come to realize that I hadn't a clue as to how to achieve it. That is, until I read "More Than Sex."
After reading your book, I'd simultaneously:
1) gained a clear understanding of the choices I made, and their consequences, that led to a failed 14-year marriage, 2) recognized patterns of behavior that pretty much doomed the long-term health and survival of my past romantic relationships with women, 3) learned how to recognize and avoid unhealthy relationship behaviors in myself and in potential partners (and thus allowed one potentially destructive, post-marital relationship to end, and subsequently resisted the temptation--based almost entirely on physical attraction-- to revive a fruitless past relationship) 4) learned what to expect and to offer to achieve the long-term, committed, healthy, loving relationship I've longed for all of my life.
As a result, for the first time in my life, I was able to have a relationship where I felt I had more than a clue as to what I was doing, the motivations driving my choices and my own expectations and sense of accountability. I constantly referred to passages in your book (highlighting the most instructional sections) to avoid backsliding into old, unhealthy behaviors and to remind myself of the new, healthy relationship behaviors you reveal and I've tried to adopt. The result was truly more than sex: a level of harmony, joyous friendship, mutual trust and respect, honest communication and deep emotional intimacy that I have never experienced in any relationship. Beyond that, the sexual attraction and energy we enjoyed was nothing short of mind-blowing--and we hadn't even had intercourse yet! (We were between the Infatuation and Barriers of Control stages of our relationship.)
Today, I am happily remarried (becoming the father of a fourth child as a result). It hasn't been easy, but I am far more sure of myself, and far more confident in my ability to recognize and maintain a healthy, committed, mutually supportive relationship with my wife. I continue to recommend your book to anyone who will listen. I tell them that we think that because we fall in love, it means we know how to love, which is like thinking that because we sometimes get caught in rainstorms, we know how to swim. Thanks to you, I've learned that love is a feeling, but loving is a choice. Thanks to you, I have a better understanding of who, how and why I choose to love.
Thank you, and thank God for inspiring you to write this book.

I just finished Dr. Smith's book, and I have to tell you, it's really quite interesting! The author talks frankly about Black men and how they are driven by their sexuality. Anger, impotence, self-esteem, and their relationships with Black women are discussed. Perhaps the most wonderful part of the book would be the story about Dr. Smith himself. He is a Black man who came from an impoverished home, his father dying in prison and having an uneducated mother to becoming a physician. He shares true stories from patients that he's met throughout the years, and many of them I can identify with. It's about time someone talked about Black men with candor!
Thanks for writing such a wonderful book!

This book was the text in my first course in mass spectrometry. The book is a good introduction to MS for advanced undergrads and graduate students. I felt the book was very helpful, it covers the multitude of ionization sources, mass analyzers, and even tandem MS. I give it a thumbs up.
