4 out of 5 stars Good Quick Guide.......2007-09-16

You may grow out of it quickly but, it is stil usefull as a desk reference if you are not really a professional on the field and tend to forget some of the procedures...

3 out of 5 stars One Part Of Expression Web Library.......2007-08-17

Like other visual quickstart guides this one is well designed, put together in a concise, logical fashion and well written but it hardly did the trick for me - someone's who's very new to this field. One of the more difficult parts of CSS is learning how to do page layout but the explanations on this critical aspect are brief and not particularly helpful. The authors boast a online answer service but my question - a very basic one concerning a problem I had early on - went unanswered. To answer that question I turned to Expression Web for Dummies - and got it quickly answered. I found that text more much helpful for me at this stage. In truth this stuff is so difficult for me that I require several books - this is one, Expression Web For Dummies is another (and I'm looking for another) as well as using tutorials. I have yet to find a single book that's satisfactory. As I learn more and more I appreciate this book more and more but as an introduction it faltered in some areas I needed.

3 out of 5 stars Just what it claims to be.......2007-08-03

If you have never used Expression Web or FrontPage, this book will get you started. If you have, for any period of time, it will tell you nothing new.

4 out of 5 stars It is what it says.......2007-06-02

This book is a "quickstart guide". As such it covers the basics. It is a good starting point. For more in-depth information, one would need Cheryl's or Jim's book on EW. I rated Nolan's book a 4 because it is what it says it is - a quick-start guide.

2 out of 5 stars Too basic - No thelpful enough.......2007-05-13

I was totally new to using Expression Web. So I purchased this title to see if it would help. After the first two chapters I decided the book was a waste of time, and not really all that helpful. Showing screens is one thing, but not really explaining details is what is sorely lacking in the book.I also thought the illustrated screens were too small, more than likely causing eye-strain for the elderly.

3 out of 5 stars This book was not as informative as some of the older issues.......2007-09-25

I thought the older books were easier to look up different vitamins and what your body needs for certain ailments.I didn't like the way he listed contents in front of book, some things were hard to find when looking in contents.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Reference.......2007-09-15

This is the third time I purchased this book. Twice before, I loaned this book to others only to never see it again. This book is an excellent source for vitamin information.

5 out of 5 stars Understanding vitamins.......2007-07-19

It is a Great book. Comprehensive information, but easy to understand by the novice. Easy to find information and recommendations. It is a must text-reference book to have. Use vitamins wisely. Lean about vitamin compatibilities and when to take them. You may be wasting the value of vitamins and your money.

4 out of 5 stars Great Update!.......2007-03-17

I had purchased Earl's bible at a used book store. Alas, it was from 1979. Even though it may have been "out of date" the information was right on! The Anniversary edition was just as good as I expected. The preliminary findings of some "vitamins" from 1979, were just as he wrote, the new bible just solidified the information. I take this information and compare with my other research, Earl is usually in-line. I don't believe anything verbatim, but this a great basis for natural health. I tell everyone who is interested in vitamins and natural supplements that this book is a MUST have in their library.

1 out of 5 stars Double check the facts.......2007-02-13

For whatever reason Amazon negated my last review. I am not sure why.
Anyway. My issue was that in researching this book, and whether to buy or not, I found out the author, per the cover no less of his book, states he is a Ph.D. He doesn't have a recognized Ph.d as the degree is from a diploma mill. This is not opinion, this is fact. I thought the potential reader should know this before purchasing a book by the good "Dr.".
Amazon really should do better about allowing such materials to be sold on their website.

Book Description

Melissa Romney-Jones went from doormat to diva when she donned a blond wig, became Honey, a no-nonsense bombshell, and set up shop providing London's most clueless men with all the basic girlfriend services -- except, of course, for sex and laundry! Now, her business is booming, but when her flat-mate decides to renovate, she has to temporarily find a new place to live. Then Melissa's dashing American boyfriend (and former client) Jonathan Riley gets a promotion that takes him to New York. There's only one solution: an extended holiday for Melissa in the Big Apple.

Entrusting care of the Little Lady Agency to her tactless best friend and her melodramatic sister, Melissa crosses the pond and finds herself out of her depth among Jonathan's hard-charging friends and his interfering ex-wife. Although Jonathan works all the time, he asks Melissa not to take on any new clients while she's in his hometown. But when she's presented with a tempting new challenge, Melissa decides to put her expertise to use. Then her project lands her in the tabloids, which sets off a hilarious and heartbreaking chain of events that could force her to choose between the man she loves and the unique business into which she has poured her heart and soul.

Irresistibly funny and full of the magic of New York, Little Lady, Big Apple is another triumph that will have you rooting for Melissa all the way!

5 out of 5 stars Little Lady, Big Apple.......2007-10-10

Oh my...I loved this book. I also love the Little Lady Agency and never thought I could love this book even more...but this was even better than the first. READ IT... I know you'll love it!

3 out of 5 stars Not bad...........2007-08-22

If you've read my review of the first book "Little Lady Agency" then you know I was not too fond of it - I had had high hopes for it. I read this one without those high expectations and it was better. I agree with another comment, that there was a little bit missing from the book with Melissa not dressing up as "Honey" - not having the "Honey" interactions - that "Honey"...pizzazz. But it was an amusing read. I did not, however, like the ending all to much. I had hoped that Jonathan would have taken a step back in his career to have just been with her (he did work an awful lot). But I guess at the end they both got what they wanted (it's always a nice scene to see a man grovel). Without my high expectations (like I had of the first book) I enjoyed this one better. Just missed "Honey" a bit. Will be looking for the next one. I will also be looking forward to future works by Hester Browne.

4 out of 5 stars Fun Summer Read.......2007-06-26

Witty and some truly laugh-out loud moments. This is a wonderful summer read with just enough adventure and humor to keep your interest. Romantic, fun, and a quick read. I do love the "British-ness" of it all!

2 out of 5 stars Poorly Researched.......2007-06-17

Browne's editor wasn't asleep at the switch in this sequel to The Little Lady Agency. No, this time the editor must have been in a coma.
How else to explain the glaring plot holes bigger than a subway opening?
For a start, not one single New Yorker depicted in the book sounds like a living, breathing actual New Yorker.
Jonathan "The Boring Man" Riley says he tried to call Melissa, but her phone was engaged. Americans just don't say that. They say the number was busy.
For another, Jonathan picks her up from the airport in a series of limousines and town cars, until one mysterious trip, he's driving a vehicle we never hear of before - or after.
The worst infraction however, is Jonathan and his dog Braveheart flying to London and arriving dewy-eyed on Melissa's doorstep.
How is this possible?
There are strict quarantine laws in England. You CANNOT bring an animal into London. France, oui, London, No.
I know this is fiction but Geez Louise, at least make it semi-believable.
As for leaving her hard-earned business in the hands of two moronic women - her complusively stupid best friend Gabi and her sinister sister Allegra, both of whom possess the common sense of lettuce leaves - please...this Little Lady needs her head examined.
I won't be reading the next book, this one was a painful experience.

4 out of 5 stars Amusing.......2007-04-14

This book is a nice sequel to the Little Lady Agency, though the plot was not quite as interesting. I missed seeing Melissa transform herself into Honey, and the interactions between Honey and her clients were largely missing in this book. That said, it's still a fun read, and I'm interested in seeing what these characters are up to next, now that Melissa's love life seems to be back on track.

5 out of 5 stars Good book for a student.......2004-07-05

This is an excellent book for a student of archaeological methods. If you are looking for light reading, as some of the earlier reviews must have been, then look somewhere else.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book.......2004-04-25

Fantastic book! Very clear and very comprehensive. If you are serious about archaeology, you'll enjoy this book. If you're a hobbyist or have comprehension issues, you might not enjoy it. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars An archaeological field school in a book........2004-02-14

This is a comprehensive text book, not of the "Archaeology for Dummies" variety. More than a couple universities use this book as their standard text for senior level courses in archaeological field methods. Be prepared to learn rather than entertained...it's a serious work. As for the writing style, most text books could stand to be re-written by some best-selling author, but had to give this one five stars just to bring its score up from the absurd two and a half it is currently rated at.

4 out of 5 stars Great book for people interested in learning on own time........1999-11-09

As a person interested in learning more about archaeology field methods, I found this book had good explanations of some very puzzling processes. It also makes a great textbook and was used to prepare students for a field school by professors at UT Dallas. Good book - but you may have to read it over a couple of times in order to fully grasp all the knowledge presented.

4 out of 5 stars Some comments from the senior author.......1999-09-15

The three recent comments on FIELD METHODS, 7th ed. need some clarification. Yes, the book is long, very long. I didn't know we had any statistics in it (reviewer #1)! It is not comparable to Joukowsky, as her book, like our 6th ed., Hester, et al. l975, is now badly out of date. The 7th ed., l997, is designed as (l) a text, especially for field schools (2) a reference on contemporary approaches to field archaeology. It is not a trade book, especially since Mayfield does not discount to bookstores. The long-winded aspect comes from an effort to review contemporary archaeology, which is changing rapidly and covers a broad area of inquiry. The academic review cards received by Mayfield after publication were overwhelmingly positive. Thus, the book appeals largely to professionals and active avocational archaeologists. It is not a "light read" on the glorious discoveries of archaeology.

It's hard to believe that the stories in Plane Insanity, the hilarious book by Elliott Hester, are true. But they are. Before you read even a single page, you know you're in for a wild ride just from the subtitle: A Flight Attendant's Tales of Sex, Rage, and Queasiness at 30,000 Feet. Hester has encountered just about everything in his 15 years of flying the skies or "riding tin," and he recounts these laugh-out-loud encounters with plenty of attitude and self-deprecating humor. Not to spoil the fun, but a few juicy tidbits include Hester as the hapless victim of a child's projectile vomit, chasing a sparrow around the cabin, mistakenly putting a woman on the wrong flight, and recalling the unfathomable account of an inebriated man defecating atop a liquor cart, to the horror of passengers and crew. Just when you think the stories can't get anymore outlandish he outdoes himself with the titillating antics of amorous couples who vie for membership in the infamous Mile High Club. And did our Mr. Hester himself ever become a member of this elite club? You'll have to read the book to find that out. Believe me, you'll be glad you did--this is the one of the year's funniest reads. --Jill Fergus

Book Description

You're belted into a middle seat with burly businessmen on either side. It's ninety-two degrees and someone forgot deodorant. A baby screams. A kid kicks the back of your seat. After two hours the plane hasn't even left the gate. Welcome to modern airline travel! In Plane Insanity, flight attendant Elliott Hester delivers stories that could only come from a man who 'rides tin' for a living. Readers will hear about: - The passenger from hell - A smuggled python - Prostitutes working the lavatories - A riot in coach class - A heist - The anatomy of a carry-on bag - A malodorous couple - The Mile-High Club and more! Fasten your seatbelts. After Plane Insanity, you'll never think of air travel the same way.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Plane boring!.......2007-08-21

This book is a rehash of old stories. Nothing new or insightful. A far better read is Babylon Air.

Plane Insanity is very funny in the first 5 or so pages but loses the plot after than and becomes a standard review of items you have either experienced or read about in the papers.

Most disappointing read this year!

2 out of 5 stars Change job.......2007-05-27

Half the stories are not funny and there is way too much complaining about the job. Mr. Hester is, though, a skillful writer and you can read thru the whole book to end up wondering why you did not throw it away sooner. Maybe Mr.Hester should quit flying and become a full time writer.
Fit to read while waiting for your delayed flight.

2 out of 5 stars Great idea, but. . . .......2006-12-20

The author writes what could be a fascinating book, but he seems to defend the airline industry at the expense of the passengers. His section on the 'Mile High Club' could have been much better. Granted, the force and appeal of sex is part of nature, but graphic descriptions aren't necessary.

If he writes a regular column, I would be suspect as to the content of his column. No doubt that we humans are funnier than anybody, but the author didn't have to be so bitter about passengers. I have met some flight attendants who were very pleasant, and some who were rude, and most who were pleasantly distant. It's unfortunate that Reagan and the Congress chose to deregulate the airline industy, it has suffered since then.

But the author backs away from that, concentrating on a mish-mash of disconnected stories.

5 out of 5 stars Extremly Funny, Gross, & Entertaining!.......2006-06-25

A friend of mine wrote a review on this book back in 2002. His review is titled, "In the Friendly Skies," by D. Clancy. Mr. Clancy has written a lot of reviews on here and was a very wonderful person, who passed away 2 yrs ago, and is extremely missed by friends, family, and the theater community in Portland, Or, where he was a very active member. He also worked in the airline industry for some time and I remember him telling me about this book and how wonderfully funny it was and I never forgot it!

This book was tremendously funny and very well written. Some stories are extremely sickening so not for the weak of stomach, some stories make you mad on how the public treat flight attendants, and some make you downright cry tears of humor! I LOVED this book! You won't believe these tales of the sky especially since they are true. I intend to purchase this for my collection of favorites.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2006-03-13

I thought the content in this book was quite informational as I have never know anyone who was a flight attendant. It was quite comical and believable as to how some humans act under some extreme circumstances. For the price, I would recommend this to anyone wanting a light read.

Book Description

Gardens reveal the relationship between culture and nature, yet in the vast library of garden literature few books focus on what the garden means - on the ecology of garden as idea, place, and action. The Meaning of Gardens maps out how the garden is perceived, designed, used, and valued. Essays from a variety of disciplines are organized around six metaphors special to our time - the garden muses of Faith, Power, Ordering, Cultural Expression, Personal Expression, and Healing. Each muse suggests specific inspirations for garden and landscape design.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A rich and inspiring look at gardens!.......1998-06-27

I found this an excellent and far-reaching book, beautifully organized into six "metaphors"--faith, power, ordering, cultural expression, personal expression and healing. This is a book for someone interested in exploring the deeper meaning and symbolism of gardens throughout history and in a variety of cultures, as well as the contemporary art of the garden and the exciting trend in community gardening. I found the section on healing particularly moving.

3 out of 5 stars generally good but a bit esoteric and queer at times.......1997-12-26

This book was very theoretical, not very practical. It had a lot of examples, some of which were very interesting. But some of the examples were quite strange and weird which makes the book sometimes a bit nonsensical. I would recommend it if you are looking for examples of overly-spiritual gardens not for normal everyday gardening.

Book Description

This extraordinarily readable, cohesive text presents twenty-first century astronomy as a dynamic story of theory building and theory testing, as a fascinating process of observation and discovery. The authors' primary goal is to build students' scientific literacy by emphasizing how science works and why it is relevant, rather than by cataloging a large mass of individual details. With a clear focus on core concepts and carefully crafted pedagogical aids, 21st Century Astronomy chronicles scientists at work on the most important questions about the Universe, highlighting the excitement of making new discoveries and the puzzlement created by new lines of inquiry.

"One of the most exciting things about astronomy is that sometimes you get up in the morning and discover that we know fundamental things about the Universe that we didn't know the day before. The recent release of the results from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) satellite observatory are one of those historical moments."—Jeff Hester

5 out of 5 stars A Favorite Astronomy Textbook.......2004-11-20

This is my third year teaching introductory astronomy. I've used three textbooks. Last year I got a copy of 21st Century Astronomy free--publishers are always trying to get professors to adopt their textbooks. Anyway, I really like this one. I haven't been able to use it in a class yet, but I would like to. I use it already to help me prepare for lectures. It's clear and don't talk down to the reader. Many textbooks get weighted down with frills, but not this one. The graphics are clear but never superfluous. In keeping with its title, it includes may up to date topics.

The other texts I have used are Kaufman, Seeds, and Bennet et al. (which I liked a lot too--it's a little bulky though.)

5 out of 5 stars Out of this world.......2003-08-06

Wonderful explanations. This is the astronomy book I never had as a kid! I'm a biologist and always thought I had the good fortune of working in the most interesting field. It sounds trite, but this book has opened my eyes to a universe out there. Now I even sort of understand black holes and the implications of relativity.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific ethics text for non-IT managers and decision-makers.......2000-10-20

I teach a graduate class in Information Technology in the Public Sector, in the M.S. in Public Administration program at a major university in southern California. I selected this text for my class because I found it to be an excellent, wide-ranging and deep exploration of a host of ethical issues dealing with information technology for non-computer majors. While not every article was directly relevant to my class (which is made up of current and future managers of public sector organizations), the book is easy to read and has a "friendly" style that draws you into the articles. Some articles are only a few pages while others are quite long. This text has been very appreciated by my students and the articles in it have been the source of many in-class discussions and debates. Overall: Outstanding!

Book Description

There is no more eloquent expression of a civilization's economic progress and cultural maturity than its civic architecture. The historic courthouses of Texas testify to the independence and fortitude of a resolute people determined to wrench order out of the devastation of Civil War and to enforce justice on a frontier advanced beyond the reaches of law. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries—termed by author Michael Andrews "the Great Age of Texas Courthouses"—county courthouses rose as the predominant symbols of progress and stability, optimism, and robust community pride.

Historic Texas Courthouses gives attention to 100 landmark courthouses in Texas. Architects of the past become living people to the reader. Author Michael A. Andrews delivers an education in the elements of architectural style. Details about the artisans and their materials and methods are recorded. Stories abound of the spirited competition by towns for the trophy of being designated "county seat."

In 1999, the Historic Courthouses of Texas were featured on the National Trust's list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. This led to an awareness and outcry over the deterioration and loss of many of these important structures, so that the Texas Legislature and then-Governor George W. Bush vigorously responded with a program to fund their restoration. The Texas Historical Commission ably administered that program, the most ambitious statewide preservation effort in the history of Texas, and many of the venerable buildings have been restored to their former grandeur.

5 out of 5 stars True Texas.......2007-02-06

What a beautiful book to look at and an interesting book to read. It truly covers the courthouse treasures of Texas. I particularly like the way it divides up the buildings by their architectural style, not their geographical locations. Great addition to our library.

5 out of 5 stars TEXAS TREASURES.......2006-11-16

Simply the defintive book on Texas Courthouses...the images are superb and the text enlightening. I have always loved the majestic courthouse, expecially when they are in the town square. Texas is blessed with many great historic Courthouses and this book displays them in their best light. I expecially appreciate the Tarrant, Bexar, and Jefferson County Courthouse, these are so grand in their own distinct way. If you have any interest in this subject, dont hesitate to order this book. Mr. Andrews should be proud of this work, it's a perfect tribute to these quitenticential Texas courthouse.

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!.......2006-11-15

Finally, a serious book about courthouses. The photographs are breathtaking, and the author brings a unique perspective on the history of these magnificent buildings. BRAVO!

3 out of 5 stars Entertaining but Uneven Anthology.......2007-06-16

Every story in this collection was penned by Brian Michael Bendis, but you'd never know that unless you read the credits--the storytelling styles vary wildly, based upon the characters and artist that Bendis is working with. The best story here is a three-parter introducing the Ultimate Punisher, illustrated by the legendary Bill Sienkiewicz. A few other usually solid artists turn in less-than-inspiring work. There's some quippy dialogue (overdone in an annoyingly self-referential Fantastic Four story), but if you're looking for an introduction to Marvel's Ultimate Universe, pick up Mark Miller's The Ultimates.

1 out of 5 stars Style challenged.......2007-04-02

While some of the stories are amusing, the style is highly varied and in some cases extremely annoying. There is little consistency between the collected comics, and the only theme is that most of them portray spider-man as a whining kid. There are better collections to spend your money on.

5 out of 5 stars MUST buy for Ultimate Spider-Man fans.......2007-01-31

This book was an incredible read. If you are a fan of Ultimate Spider-Man and Bendis, then this book is a MUST buy!

Bendis does sooo much to flesh out the Ultimate world in these 17 issues. It's his Spider-Man on adventures not told in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Spider-Man meets Wolverine, fights Hulk, confronts Daredevil and Punisher simultaneously, meets Iron Man, Dr. Strange, a hilarious encounter with the Fantastic Four, his first encounter with the Lizard and Man Thing, a scary encounter with Blade, a bizarre meeting with the X-Men, his relationship with Mary Jane reaches new levels, and so much more.

These comics are so well written and often hilarious and inciteful. They effect Ultimate Spider-Man and stories even crossover several times. Definitely a fun read and great book!

UPDATE: Bendis announced that the new "Ultimate Origin" was first touched upon in "Ultimate Team-Up #3" when Spider-Man battles the Hulk.

4 out of 5 stars Finally.......2006-10-09

A wrong has been righted. This collection had previously only been available in hard cover which was out of print. So of course the marketplace sellers decided to triple charge the face value for people who really wanted this collection. This trade collects Ultimate Team Up 1-16 plus the Spidey Summer Special. So unless you grabbed the comics when they came out or shelled out for the hardcover, you couldn't get the whole collection. Marvel released 3 paperback trades for the series, but for some reason decided not to include 3 issues of the series. So those who purchased the 3 trades were not getting a full run. This trade finally fixes the problem.
