Book Description
Since its publication in 1987, Being Peace has become a classic of contemporary religious literature. In his simple and readable style, Thich Nhat Hanh shows how our state of mind and body can make the world a peaceful place. We learn to transform the very situations that pressure and antagonize us into opportunities for practicing mindfulness.

Practical Messages on Being Peace.......2007-06-30
This book has been Good for my soul. It presents examples of daily trials we face and offers ways that we can respond in peaceful ways. There is balance in this book.
I was raised Baptist. This book was recommended by a Catholic friend who had been given the book by a Catholic priest.
The reading of this book takes me to a place where I am in my best spiritual state.
The best of Thich Nhat Hanh.......2007-06-19
This is early Thich Nhat Hanh at his freshest. Compelling stories of coming to see the world from a more awakened perspective are mixed with very accessible instructions for mindfulness meditations. Anyone of Buddhist inclination will profit from visiting or revisiting this book, and if you want to introduce someone else (or yourself) to Buddhist thought and practice in an inviting way, you could scarcely do better than this. (The other "best first book" which stands up to repeated readings is Shunryu Suzuki's Zen Mind Beginner's Mind. Both are likely to become your lifetime companions.)
Peace is available.......2007-05-10
Thich Nhat Hanh is a beautiful being, writing in very simple words and from the heart, and showing us how to be at Peace, in Peace, so as to create Peace in our World. Good book. Likely to be re-red many times.
It Must be me ... I dont see five stars but?.......2007-04-24
I like this authors books that is why I bought this one on a friends recommendation. I struggled through it but dont find it easy to read or understand and I usually like this guys books. I found it choppy, hard to follow and I didnt find it peaceful reading. A few nuggets here but didnt work for me this time.
Peace starts with you.......2007-04-03
I have never heard something more true. Hanh says that a smile is the best way to start creating peace in our world. I could not agree more.

Beware the man with the wax.......2007-06-19
Volume 14 continues the Little Garden story arc. The giants are down, and Zoro, Vivi, and Nami have been captured by Mr. 3. It's up to Luffy to save them. But things are never so easy.
I agree with the other review in that most of Luffy's crew don't do much in this volume. But for me, one of the highlights of Little Garden is that it creates a strong sense of danger and suspense that the series doesn't often generate. Usually, the bad guys are little more than annoying obstacles to whatever Luffy's main goal is. Here the threat feels real, and with half the crew about to be suffocated in wax, you know time is running out. Mr. 3 is one of the single most effective enemies in the series.
We also get great character development. Usopp again shows a bit of cleverness that makes his battles so entertaining. And the volume's title "Instinct" refers to one of the best Luffy moments in the series.
A great volume. So why did 4Kids skip it?
Instinct.......2007-03-29
Another satisfying volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. This volume includes the story of Luffy's crew facing off mostly against Mr. 3.
This isn't the best volume of One Piece and doesn't involve the entire cast. Sanji is only included in the last two sections and most of Luffy's crew have minor roles at best. The majority of the action centers around Luffy and Usopp confronting Mr. 3 upon finding out he was behind the exploding drink in the last volume.
Nevertheless, this storyline still has its strong points and the action is consistent with previous entries. If you enjoyed the previous volumes of this series you'll enjoy this one as well.
Book Description
Without reading this book, you don't have the true story on the ninja!
This book is an exquisite historical account of the various activities of the ninja and their influence on the various political and military events in Japan for over 1500 years. Definitely a must for those interested in the Ninja Arts, Ninja Secret Service, weaponry, and devices. Contents and illustrations are based on rare historical materials written in Japanese.
Customer Reviews:
Ninjutsu History.......2006-08-14
This book is very informative. It goes into more detail than most of the other publications on the market. As a new student in the bujinkan, I find that the more I understand the history and lineage behind the art, the more intrigued I become. This book, like the art, is riveting.
Good Info, Poor Writing.......2006-02-04
The subject matter of this book is fascinating, but it is so poorly written (bad grammar, repetitive) that it's hard to read.
A Historical Account of Ninjutsu........2005-11-26
"Real Ninja" is a historical account of ninjutsu. The book begins with a discussion of the ninja clans, their employment by the Shogunate, and famous individual ninja such as `Fuuma' and `Tobikatoo'. We also get to read of associated groups such as the `Oniwaban' - Garden Security Samurai, and the `Negoru Group' - the Matchlock Gunner Group.
Dr. Hirohisa Oda then reviews various ninja tools. We learn of the `Rokugu' or the six items always carried by a ninja whenever he stepped out of his house. Of course we read of weapons such as the ninja sword and the shuriken, but careful reading also reveals tips such as employing `metsubushi' (Blinding Powder) by rolling it in a narrow strip of cloth and then snapping that cloth toward the enemy's face to cast the metsubushi into his eyes.
Reading about the `ninja arts' we learn about `yamabiko' (employment of double agents), ninja codes (angoo), and various poisons such as trychnos, balloon fish, and moonlight mushroom.
A brief explanation of the ninja nine signs of concentration is given with photographs showing each hand position.
Next we get a description of ninja houses and the secrets that were built into them, along with a list of still-existing ninja houses in Japan.
Although we tend to see the ninja as spies and assassins in the popular press, Dr, Hirohisa Oda shows us how the ninja were often associated with physicians, and how physicians became ninja.
Finally we see modern day ninja, such as the Nakano School, established in 1938, and used to train the Japanese military in ninjutsu techniques.
The student of ninjutsu should have an understanding of the history of the ninja, and that is just what one gets with `Real Ninja". I recommend this book for any serious student of ninjutsu.
Real Story about Real Ninja.......2003-01-29
This is an extremely informative book about the real Ninja of history -- as opposed to what we've picked up from the movies. There's plenty of information about the actual history of actual men who were Ninja, about their training and their use as spies, about the tools of their trade (weapons, poisons, disguises, incredible getaways), and about their importance in Japanese military events. Neat drawings, and photos too.

Book Description
This volume in Oxford Medieval Text contains Eadmer's Lives of Saints Oda, Dunstan, and Oswald, as well as the Miracles of Dunstan and Oswald. These three English saints, together with AEthelwold of Winchester, were key figures in the Benedictine revival of the tenth century, which saw a flowering of Anglo-Saxon religious, artistic, and literary culture. Eadmer of Canterbury (c.1060-c.1130), the secretary, confidant, and biographer of Saint Anselm, Archbishop of Canterbury (1033-1109), was one of the most important historians and biographers in the period after the Norman Conquest. His works, written in Latin, look back constantly to the Anglo-Saxon past, while at the same time they accurately reflect the present-day realities of the wider European society into which England had been forcibly integrated. Manuscripts of his Lives of the Saints circulated widely in both in England and France, but apart from his Life of Anselm they have been little studied, and have remained largely untranslated. The works newly edited and translated in this edition provide many insights into the wider political history of the pre- and post-Conquest periods, as well as important evidence for the cults of the saints in Canterbury and Worcester.

It was so cool! But,I don't get it!How can Saim's shirt split and not his stomach?!It's creepy!!!But,he did say he had a cat's waistline. So,he's part cat part human, right? And,in the TV show,Luffy caught Django's ring in his mouth and cracked it,but,in the book it hit him in the back of the head, but how can he still live? And Merry was sliced bad,how can he still live?!Sigh,so many qustions,so little time.

Memories!.......2006-02-16
I really liked the memories!Buggy and Shanks,Yasopp and Luffy 10 years ago,I was able to finish it in 1 day!!That's impresive! But,why is the Yasopp memory so short?I hate that!!!
Buggy's end and it's time for Usopp.......2005-07-01
Yes, this one was a great volume! This one will make laugh, laugh, and laugh some more! This also has great action and a new character! Shank's and Buggy's past is discovered! To find out more go and get it!
The end of Buggy, the beginning of Ussop.......2004-12-03
"Don't Get Fooled Again" is the 3rd volume in the US release of Japanese super-comic "One Piece." Probably the most popular comic in modern Japan, One Piece is a funny pirate adventure, with a long, long story arc and a large cast.
This volume finishes up the Buggy the Clown storyline that started in volume 1. There is some more background on "Red-Haired" Shanks, Monkey D. Luffy's pirate mentor and hero, as well as the induction of Nami the Thief into the crew. There is a brief single story, featuring a man trapped on an island of treasure chests, before heading into the next story arc of Ussop the Liar. Ussop is a great character, the son of a pirate who served under "Red-Haired" Shanks, and fancies himself a challenger to Luffy's captainship.
It is a bit unsatisfying, as you have both the end of one story arc and the beginning of another in volume 3, but the story lines were not designed for this format, and do not easily fit into it, so some spillage is expected. That aside, if you are buying volume 3 then you will be buying volume 4 anyways, right?
great manga.......2004-10-18
This is the best selling manga in japan for a reason and that reason is... its really really good. Dont judge it by the anime on foxbox the manga is not so kiddish dont get me wrong its not adult its just not completly censord. Well anyways about the manga it has a likeable cast of charachters each unique in his or her own way but i wont tell you how you have to read it for yourself. Definetly start with volume 1 you will enjoy the seiries much more.
And then there where 4........2004-05-27
Okay, of the main characters in One Piece, we've met Monkey D. Luffy, a person who has the goal of being the greatest pirate in the world, Roronoa Zoro, who wants to fulfill a promise he made with a childhood friend, and Nami, a thief who from what we can tell suffered some great tragedy at the hands of pirates. In this volume we meet the fourth main character, Usopp, who has a reputation for being a liar but aside from that is actually a good guy. However, I'm getting ahead of myself. This volume opens with the conclusion of the Buggy arc that began in the first book, as Luffy and Buggy finally square off, and it definitely has to be seen to believed. Afterwards, we have a brief short story where Luffy and Nami encounter a guy who's trapped in a box, and as a result can't get to some treasure chests on top of a cliff, so they decide to help him out. Next we begin the Kuro arc. As said before, Usopp is introduced here, and Luffy remembers that Usopp's father is a member of his idol Shanks's crew. Luffy also learns that Usopps spends time telling tall tales to a sickly girl named Miss Kaya, which is the only thing that entertains her. However, he's at odds with her butler Khaladore. However, as it turns out, Khaladore is hiding a dark secret, one that will endanger everyone's lives. It turns out--- well, I can't spoil anything more. Anyway, this is a good book. What I like about One Piece is how good the characterization is, and the new volume is no exception. Even the villains have some motivations for their actions. I recommend One Piece, and I thank Viz for releasing this into the states at last.
Book Description
Developed during a summer retreat at Plum Village, Thich Nhat Hanh's meditation center, these charming short verses were collected to help children and adults practice mindfulness throughout the day. The verses, or gathas, are designed to make everyday activities — such as washing the dishes, driving the car, or turning on the television — opportunities to return to a state of mindfulness. As exercises in both meditation and poetry, gathas are very much in keeping with the Zen tradition: the gatha helps readers become attuned to each action, and at its conclusion, even the most mundane activity is imbued with heightened awareness. Reciting these poetic yet practical verses helps readers slow down and savor every moment. Nhat Hanh’s warm, thoughtful commentary provides insight and inspiration.
Customer Reviews:
Buddhism for daily living..........2004-07-15
It's bizarre that Yoda the Jedi master actually spouted some basic Buddhist wisdom: "...always dreaming of the future, never his mind on WHERE HE WAS! Humph! WHAT HE WAS DOING!" Those words sum up the idea of living in the present moment that is one of the fundamental teachings of Buddhism. This book presents small sayings (or "gathas") that can be used to allay a distraction and get back into the present moment. There are verses for opening a window, looking in the mirror, using the toilet, getting dressed, lighting a candle, sweeping, eating, walking, gardening, taking out the garbage, using the telephone, and even watching television. All gathas emphasize the interconnectedness of things, and living in the present moment: "We can be very happy just by being aware of what is in front of us." Themes of justice and injustice also permeate the section on food. This is a very good small, readable and comprehensible collection of Buddhist wisdom. Newcomers may have a little trouble, but the text is not very difficult, and unknown terms can be easily looked up. Buddhism incorporates very underrated perspectives and lifestyles that can reduce stress, conquer anger, and give meaning to daily existence.
peace and freedom in each moment -- my own peace and freedom.......2004-06-02
We live, whether we acknowledge life/action, or we simply 'go through the motions', we live.
We may live fully, capturing the moment (as we might during a carcrash or orgasm) or we might wish to 'just get this over' (as we might during a trafficjam or while on our last hour at the office on Friday). Either way, we live.
Stress (which smirks beneath many masks: anger, greed, lust, jealousy, obsession, selfishness, pride, hate) haunts, terrorizes, debilitates, consumes... if we allow stress to run wild. Living in the present moment and embracing the present moment as a wonderful, unique, meaningful moment strips stress of its power... it can even vanquish stress.
Thich Nhat Hanh compiles (and shares with us) gathas utilized at Plum Village. These gathas can help us focus our thoughts/actions, to facilitate living each moment in appreciative fullness. These gathas are not tools of rote memorization, meant to be cure all's simply because they are memorized. These gathas are methods to focus, liberating us to meaningful action: "When we focus our minds on a gatha, we return to ourselves and become more aware of each action. When the gatha ends, we continue our activity with heightened awareness," (viii). This book helps me both through the Plum Village gathas, and through the inspiration to create my own pertinent gathas (gathas for: walking my dog, opening the mailbox, charting on residents, reading books, listening to music, playing basketball, shaving my face, etc.). Hanh even encourages creating gathas: "Composing new verses is a way of enriching the tradition," (ix).
This book is inexpensive, purchase it and experience peace and freedom in each moment -- your own peace and freedom.
Short and sweet -- if you don't mind getting creative!.......2002-02-12
For a graduate school class on meditative practices, I used this book for an experiment. I took the verses and memorized many, and changed the rest to suit my particular situations. I made up new verses -- in the same style -- to complement situations not described in the book. I found this to be an effective way to minimize my daily stress. As just a book for your nightstand, this one will probably not be useful or very interesting. But for someone with stress or anxiety, or someone just interested in Eastern religions, it may be invaluable. Such a collection is certainly not easy to find, and the writing is clear and unambiguous.
Great if you are already practicing.......2001-08-22
These gathas/short poems are interesting and helpful for those who already practice meditation, but may seem skimpy and repetitive to those not already trying to pursue mindfulness.
Don't get this book if you are looking for an introduction to Buddhist thought--get it if you are looking for daily techniques to improve your appreciation of the miracle of daily life.
Present Book Wonderful Book!.......2001-05-23
Thich Nhat Hanh is simply one of the easiest, most gentle authors on the practical application of eastern thought available today. Present Moment, Wonderful Moment is a delight to read. It is a collection of useful verses to keep us mindful throughout the day, recognizing how easy it is to lose sight of the present moment when the crash of life clamors about us constantly. Thich Nhat Hanh uses the technique of memorizing "gathas" for the purpose of focusing the mind on the thing you are doing now rather than on whatever other chatter is going on in the mind. Further, with each verse there is anywhere from a paragraph to a few pages of commentary that give the reader not only insight into the application of the verse, but also insight into the mind and soul of Thich Nhat Hanh. The result is inspirational, soothing, and useful. Of particular importance is the fact that the author, while a monk, is not in the least unaware of the realities of modern life, and included in his verses are ones for talking on the phone, turning on the television, and turning on an electric light. Those not familiar with mindfulness practice might wonder at the insignificance of those daily, mundane experiences, but Thich Nhat Hanh helps us to recognize that there is life "spent" in each of those (and countless other) little activities, and without recognizing that life mindfully, it is life wasted. This man has a simple message...live life fully, abundantly, happily and peacefully, with full awareness of that life as you experience it in the moment. This is a book you will refer to often as you practice mindfulness.

Zolo and Cabji's duel........2006-02-14
I pretty much liked the duel between Zolo and Cabji. But I think there's to much blood and violance. And to much swearing!Agghh,I hate swaering! But,who cares? It was still good!
Really violent---very cool.......2005-12-24
One Piece is a very awesome manga. Don't be fooled by the TV show, it's awesome. But take heed -- it's really violent. I recomend this for readers 11+ It is so worth the whopping 8 bucks I have to pay eeeeveryyy time. I just think mebbe Eichiro Oda needs to CHILLAX with all the blood and gore. This is mainly based for boys, but like me, I like it just as much. Don't get me wrong, this manga/volume is great!
chop-chop man VR. gum-gum man.......2005-09-26
Over all this magna is very good.i thought the first one was kinda bad but over all this seires is very good.its ok for ages 11-16 but dose have some drinking in it and one bad word but who cares.
Buggy the Clown ?!.......2005-06-29
Okay I read the first one and now it is time for volume 2! Now this one intoduces more of Nami the pirate thief and some more pirate action. But what kind of villain is a clown! I mean common can we do better than this Oda! Well at least he gave the clown the power of the chop chop fruit! Maybe the villain is weird but it is still great and histerical! I definataly giving this one a 5!
Don't make fun of the nose.......2004-12-24
Volume 2 of One Piece continues the adventures of Luffy and Zoro while introducing another character - Nami, the pirate thief and navigator. Together the trio must fight off bizzare lion tamers, acrobatic swordsmen, and stop Buggy the Clown Pirate from destroying a peaceful village.
Objectively, you could skip volume 2 and not miss anything in the overall story. The Buggy the Clown arc began in volume 1 and does not finish until volume 3, which is unsatisfying unless you read all the volumes at the same time. It's a format readers should get used to, as One Piece story arcs can drag on for volumes at a time (later arcs take as many as 6 books to wrap up). However, to skip volume 2 would be to miss out on a lot of cool action and character development. Unlike the horrible dubbed version currently playing on Foxbox, real violence actually happens to the characters here (Zoro is stabbed by Buggy's knife instead of simply being jabbed with it), and I hope Viz can continue to give us the original, uncensored versions of the story.
Get volume 2 and enjoy it for what it is - it's a fun read if you don't go in expecting the story to wrap up. Also try to find an edition with Zoro instead of Zolo, as Viz is reprinting the 1st four volumes after 4Kids changed the name to avoid copyright problems.
Book Description
An old bamboo cutter finds a tiny child in the hollow of a bamboo stalk. Thus begins the beloved story of the Moon Princess, whose unearthly beauty brings her fame and would-be husbands from throughout the land, but whose destiny shines far off in the sky. The delicate color and detail of
Kancho Oda's illustrations, painted over half a century ago, create a mood of charm and mystery, admirably accompanied by the lilting verse of writer, translator, and lyricist Ralph F. McCarthy.

Nicer than others.......2005-08-16
This is a traditional japanese story, that I chose because for a japanese language student is a very good way to practice comprehension skills. It is also a nice story cause it contains no fatal punishment for any deed like other similar stories do, it is about what lies mean and of filial love. Other stories, instead, like Sarukani, The monkey an the Crab, are full of cruelty, something that clearly reflects the mentality of an era, in which there is no space for forgivness and the only posible punishment is allways fatal, with a previous list of torturing actions. Anyway, any of this bilingual stories can be of great help to students of japanese, best if you are trying to acquire a broad vocabulary, it only requires the search of the respective kanji and you are done with it.
