Good Reference and Resource.......2007-08-08
The Essentials of WISC-IV Assessment book is an excellent resource for school psychologists and students. It is a must-have for your library. I recommend this book to everyone!
Straightforward and easy to use, but lacked on the interpretation details.......2007-05-17
I'm a fan of these sorts of texts having found the Essentials of the WAIS-III a great resource I keep returning too. I imagine it will be the same with this text as I found it really easy to use and easy to read. Perhaps my only complaint is that there is little discussion about interpretation. Otherwise a great resource in scoring up your WISC-IV.
Review .......2007-02-08
This is a very handy book to understand, interpret, and write Reports. It is written in an easy to understand language.
Outstanding contribution; must for Wechsler users.......2005-01-07
This is a terrific book -- it provides a lot of information on how to administer and score the WISC-IV. It has the same innovative approaches Kaufman has used in previous books on earlier Wechsler tests -- new ideas on interpretation and scoring that make sense. With the added viewpoint provided by Flanagan, a specialist in the cross-battery assessment, this book is a merging of two interesting approaches; unique project by two top psychologists in their prime.

Customer Reviews:
Great book so far..........2007-09-13
It's well written and has a lot of great information, even for people already in the process.
An Essential Resource - Read this First.......2007-08-31
We are only a month into the international adoption process but fortunately I found this book before we started anything else. This has been our "Bible" for this process. She covers what to do, what to expect and what to look out for in her thorough step-by-step proces coverage. She also includes the "stories" of various families at each step of the process which helped me to understand that it is different for everyone. (I admit that I read all of the stories first...) We have used this book to guide us through all of our decisions and efforts through the homestudy and we feel thoroughly informed and prepared to tackle a complex and involved process. And so far, so good!
EXCELLENT RESOURCE FOR FUTURE GRANDPARENTS!.......2007-08-11
Future grandparents would really benefit from reading this book as it will help them understand the process of international adoption in an easy to read, very interesting format. This book is filled with heart-warming parents' stories while easily guiding readers through the very interesting process of adopting internationally. I could not put this book down and when I finished reading it, I felt very informed. The fact that the author, Dawn Davenport, has a website with up-to-date information is just an added bonus!
great info.......2007-08-07
a wealth of info. this is the book to use to educate yourself on the world of international adoption. many adoption stories to read, also.
Wonderful resource!.......2007-07-15
This book was the very first resource I bought when just beginning to
research international adoption - and I just recently pulled it off the
shelf again to look back over some things.
It has been a wonderful source of info - the book is a mix of factual, objective information and real experiences related by real people. It does not "sugar-coat" the topics, nor does it avoid the difficult subjects.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone considering international adoption.

Every parent needs this book! * Never hear, "It's not fair," or "But I want it" again! * No more giving into your kids demands * Have the courage to say "No" * Stop stealing your child's potential for future happiness * Create the happy family of your dreams
Entitlement...the ruination of a generation
Does your kid expect every new electronic toy and gadget, every new game, every new fashion trend, and when old enough a new car? Are you stealing your child's potential for happiness, respect, appreciation, imagination, and joy?
Entitlement has become an epidemic. Yet parents think they are giving in to this disease out of love for their children. In From Innocence to Entitlement: A Love and Logic Cure for the Tragedy of Entitlement the legendary Jim Fay, and entitlement expert, Dawn Billings, take an in-depth look at the devastation and destruction of entitlement and provide techniques for preventing and curing the problem.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent books!.......2007-08-16
All the books I've read by these guys are really good. They propose teaching kids about consequences--what they're going to experience in the REAL world. It's nothing to do with manipulation. Don't worry about "EmmerysMomma." She's young--she'll learn.
More than about "fixing" your kids.......2006-12-16
If you believe parenting is about protecting, rescuing, or ordering and controlling, this book will not appeal to you. If you are willing to step back and examine what you are doing and the results you are getting AND might be willing to try something different, you will really enjoy this and other Love and Logic books.
This is an interesting book that sketches out how as a culture we have allowed the "disease" of entitlement to creep into much of what people, and especially children, expect to receive. It's filled with some great quotes about taking responsibility for yourself that left me inspired.
The authors also weave application of the Love and Logic philosophy into the solutions to the problem of entitlement. It's fascinating that many of the managers and leaders I work with are also dealing with entitlement (although they don't call it that). Rather than blame the person, Love and Logic sets up a framework to help him or her grow into responsibility. Sound a bit like effective management? Of course the techniques for adult to adult conversation are different, yet the underlying care and support is really exactly the same.
A great weapon against the disease of entitlement!.......2006-10-19
As a strong supporter of the Love and Logic philosophy, I loved this book! The author used the philosophy to help teach parents to teach their children respect, responsibility and problem solving skills. The focus is on the problem of entitlement, what perpetuates it, and what can help cure it.
As a teacher, I have seen the attitude of entitlement in too many children. These poor kids have been taught that their happiness is dependent upon the actions of others. Moms bend over backwards to make their kids happy, and the plan backfires. As a result, their self-worth is 0, and they are very unhappy kids.
Through the use of a "Love and Logic Game Plan" Dawn Billings and Jim Fay deliver 10 steps for parents to use for success at raising responsible, happy children. Through this game plan, kids understand that they alone are in charge of their choices and happiness. They make good things happen instead of waiting for someone else to make them happy.
Many parents mistakenly believe that it is important to "protect" children from the consequences of their actions. The message this is sending to them is that Mom or Dad will bail them out if they make a mistake, so why think about what they do before they do it? As kids grow, the consequences of their mistakes get bigger. Some consequences not even Mommy will be able to protect their kids from, i.e. DUI. This book emphasizes this idea and other important ones!
Please, for the sake of your child, and anyone else who will have to deal with the consequences of your child's actions (good or bad). Read this book and help remedy this "tragedy of entitlement."
"I think" you shouldnt waste your money........2006-05-11
I found this book to be just awful. It seems like a how-to manual on mind control, where the parents show their immaturity is far greater then thier childs. The authors advocate allowing your child to get beat up in order to prove you are right. You say "I don't think its a good idea to go out there and bully those big boys" and then when they do, and get their butt kicked, they think "Gee dad is really right, I should listen to him". Except, kids do not think that way. You child will end up with a black eye and a feeling you aren't going to protect them. Yeah, maybe they wont go out and pick a fight again, but they aren't going to trust you as a result.
The authors also suggest that you give your child a chore and a deadline sometime in the future. If they don't do that chore, without being reminded, then you might as well go sell their bike in order to pay the neighbor boy to do it. Talk about heavy handed, fear based parenting.
Also, when a child gets into trouble you are suppose to put off dealing with it until later. Yes, it gives you time to think it through and cool off if you are upset. but the ultimate and intended outcome is to convey to the child "Your actions are not important to me"
The bottom line is that you must believe children are miniature adults to employ these tactics.

Book Description
In recent years, traditional theories of intelligence and measures of intellectual functioning have come under increased scrutiny by practitioners and researchers seeking a broader understanding of cognitive abilities and personal competence, enhanced diagnostic and treatment utility, and a more culturally sensitive practice. Toward these ends, many new assessment instruments and techniques have been developed and new and revised theories of intelligence have emerged. Bringing professionals up to date with these advances, this unique volume provides a comprehensive conceptual and practical overview of the current state of the art of intellectual assessment. Bridging the gap between applied intelligence testing and the latest in cognitive science, the book covers major theories of intelligence, methods of assessing human cognitive abilities, and issues related to the validity and utility of current test batteries. Contributing authors, who include leading theorists, researchers, and scientist-practitioners, as well as many of the test developers themselves, give special attention to ways in which emerging conceptions of intelligence diverge from traditional paradigms. Taken together, the chapters provide the knowledge needed to effectively use new batteries and to make up-to-date, empirically supported interpretations of older tests.

Book Description
Lush and fiercely beautiful,
Moon Tide follows the lives of three women in a small fishing town on the Massachusetts coast, from 1913 to the Great New England Hurricane of 1938. With lyrical prose, wisdom, and insight, Dawn Clifton Tripp maps the shifting tensions in a small town on the verge of change. Like the growing weight of a storm, the lives in Westport Point build in emotional momentum even as the storm approaches, and the landscape of the earth comes to reflect the geography of the mind. A novel of love and loss, survival and revelation,
Moon Tide is an extraordinary debut.
Customer Reviews:
Overpriced at $0.01.......2006-07-07
Tedious, boring. The promise of what could have been a great story is, sadly, a wasted vision. The few times it looked like a character or plot line was going someplace interesting, the author switched gears and when she did get back to the "what happend" part of a scenario, I was dissatisfied. Plot lines dissolved into something vague or just left me with a feeling of "who cares"?. I paid $2.00 for this book in a bargain bin and should have folded the bills into little paper boats and floated them in a rain-soaked gutter instead. Would have been a lot more fun and a better use of money.
Worth reading, but flawed........2006-06-21
As you can tell from reading the reviews below, some readers love this book and some readers hate it. Why? Because the language is lovely and the writer has an interesting idea, but, frankly, the novel does become tedious. Great setting, interesting characters, great idea to use the Hurricane of 1938 for a climax. But the writer needs to concentrate on the craft of plot. The book badly needs forward movement.
A great read. Highly recommend Moon Tide........2003-11-03
From the opening pages of Moon Tide, the reader senses an intensity of mood for each character we meet that ultimately mirrors the build-up of the Hurricane. The lyrical prose captures beautifully the lives and passions of each character and draws the reader in to what becomes a powerful story. As the book unfolds, one of the great joys for me was discovering the suprises that you did not expect, especially in relation to Eve and Maggie. I could not have predicted any of it and loved the book more because of that. Throughout the book, I found myself reading passages again and again for their beauty but then rushing on to find out what happened next. By the end of Moon Tide, each of the characters we have come to know makes a decision that reflects the path they have been on throughout their lives. Only at the end does it all tie together, making this reader want the next door to open and the story to go on.
A Poetic Tapestry.......2003-10-27
"Moon Tide" is an ambitious and complex first novel.
The story describes fifty years of relationships among the year rounders and summer dwellers in the coastal town of Westport, Ma., culminating with the killer hurricaine of 1938. All of this is really besides the point, for the heart of the book is in the prose, poetry really, that the author sets down with richness and sensuousness that is rare in a young writer. Each sentence is meant to be taken in, chewed and ingested for its own content and beauty. As it is poetry, the tale itself unfolds slowly, the facts of the story subservient to the panorama of the land and sea, and the motion of the plot secondary to the loving description of the coast where it takes place.
This is a serious book, which leaves us hoping for more good literary news in future works.
A tedious journey.......2003-10-21
Being a reader who likes historical novels with lyrical prose, I was sure this would be a great read. To the contrary, it was a tedious journey to nowhere. I made myself finish the novel and was relieved when the end came. I'm sure the author was trying to bring the novel to life in vivid detail but it became lumbersome just plodding through it.
