Great Gift for Poker Lover.......2007-09-20
I got this for my husband and he hasn't stopped reading it. He will only pause to tell me something he thinks I might want to hear. 8-) I'm not a poker person, but with all the Poker on TV that I've seen (because of my husband) and listening to him endlessly talk about it, I think if these books have kept his attention the way they have, they must be good.
I don't know if that helps you but knowing my hubby, anything that pulls him away from playing poker must be good.
they look great, fun and easy to read.......2007-09-18
As I said, this set looks great on my "poker books shelf" :) But aside that, it's a great read. Even the black book with many interesting details about poker. Green book is well written but my favorite is the blue book. It was so valuable to me to have a free ride threw profesional's poker mind. Highly recommend it.
Good Easy Reading.......2007-09-06
Have read 1st two books, and took a 3rd & 5th in tournments, can't wait to finish last book!!
Great poker books!.......2007-07-24
I have read 15-20 poker booksa and these are among the best I have read in a long time. Phil's dedication to the game and his committment to keep learning is well communicated in an easy to read style. It keeps you entertained and makes you feel ready to be more aggressive with a better understanding of what winning poker is about.
EXCELLENT.......2007-05-07
EXCELLENT trio of books for novice to expert. Phil does a great job of explaining as well as challanging you to think. your game will definately improve after this book. Put it together with Dan Harringtons 3 books and you can't find a better poker combo period. 2 contrasting style of players but overall the same message. Just a great trio of books.

New York Times
Intense is the word for Ender's Game. Aliens have attacked Earth twice and almost destroyed the human species. To make sure humans win the next encounter, the world government has taken to breeding military geniuses -- and then training them in the arts of war... The early training, not surprisingly, takes the form of 'games'... Ender Wiggin is a genius among geniuses; he wins all the games... He is smart enough to know that time is running out. But is he smart enough to save the planet?
Book Description
Winer of the Hugo and Nebula AwardsIn order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut-young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training.Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his beloved sister. Is Ender the general Earth needs? But Ender is not the only result of the genetic experiments. The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender's two older siblings are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If, that is, the world survives.

Sci-Fi as Literature.......2007-10-10
I first read Ender's Game at the age of 13. I found it on my grandmother's bookshelf, and devoured it within 3 days. Twelve years later, I've read the book at least five times more, and I gain more enjoyment from it every time.
The story itself is highly entertaining, simply as sci-fi or popular fiction. This was the first book I ever read in which dialogue was used to introduce each chapter (without identifying either speaker.) The revelation about this dialogue (which I won't spoil) that comes later in the book only reinforced the idea in my mind that OSC was a master of his craft. Anyone who reads the dime-store political garbage that he's written in the past five years or so would do well to remember that his early years were filled with sci-fi masterpieces like Ender's Game.
Beyond the entertaining story, there are obvious socio-political undertones inherent in the "children as soldiers" theme of the book. While the full moral impact of the story didn't hit me when I was 13, at 25, serving in the Army, the story means a great deal more to me. The world we live in today, in which young men and women as young as 17 and 18 are dying on foreign soil, is reminiscent of a world in which humanity lives in such a dire state of fear that they are willing to sacrifice the lives and innocence of an entire generation. The moral quandaries that Ender Wiggin faces mirror the life and death decisions that are put in the hands of soldiers today, still young enough to be called children. And the ending of the book (spoiler alert!), in which an older Ender Wiggin faces the demons of his past and finds redemption, is something that I have seen far too often in our own perilous times.
In my humble opinion, Ender's Game is a great read, whether you're simply looking for an entertaining story or a fictional study in ethics. And while the Ender's Shadow series is much more contemporary, I would firmly recommend the original sequels, starting with Speaker for the Dead, if you want to find a satisfying ending to the tale of Ender Wiggin. Hopefully, this book will last for another 20 years.
Goodness.......2007-10-04
This book made for a great bus ride to work. Easy to follow and can't wait to watch it play out in my head again.
Great introduction into Sci- Fi.......2007-10-03
If you never were the science fiction type this is a great one to get your feet wet. Enders game isn't too far out and doesn't make you feel too nerdy reading it. There are times where you really feel respect for ender the genius child who thinks more like a man. Well written and hard to put down.
One of the best science fiction books ever written.......2007-09-23
I read this book for the first time nearly 20 years ago and still recall it's excellent story line. Ender and his siblings are developed into incredibly realistic and believable characters. Ender's Game is perfectly written and perfectly concluded. Definitely one of the best ever.
Ender's Game.......2007-09-03
The book Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card, was a fabulous piece of work. In the story aliens have invaded planet Earth and then retreated. The world has united in trying to fight the enemy. They are training young gifted children in the ways of military strategy. The story takes place on a training ship in outer space. For training, the children must learn to battle each other in a simulation room, these are called games. Ender Wiggins, the main character, is the smallest and youngest of the recruits. He must fight his way through battle school and overcome many obstacles to prove that he is the best.
Orson Scott Card was born on August 24, 1951 in the state of Washington. He won the Hugo award and the Nebula award in consecutive years, making him the first author to ever do that. He won those awards with Ender's Game and its sequel, Speaker for the Dead. Currently Card is a professor of writing and literature at Southern Virginia University. He is also still writing books.
The end of the story had an unbelievable twist that would catch any reader off guard. The book deals with moral issues that every one struggles with. Card is able to use children to set an example to everyone. The way the children ban together to triumph over the challenges is inspiring. He also deals with issues of compassion, mercy, and the greater good. Also, throughout the story the reader gains an excellent understanding of all the characters because their development is very expressive. Battle school not only teaches the children about war but it makes them grow up very fast.
Overall the book was a joy to read. The action was intense and the dialogue was intriguing. Although there were dull moments they were few and far between. The dull moments come during training periods when everything seems routine. However, these dull moments do not last long and are generally followed by intense action.
This book is a great read for young adults and adult readers. Some parts may be too violent or frightening for younger readers. There are two sets of books that follow Ender's Game. The Ender Series which follows Ender's life after this book and the Shadow Series which follows a character Ender meets at Battle School. Both series are excellent reads after Ender's Game.
Book Description
Phil Gordon plays poker with the best players in the world. He has won -- and lost -- in tournaments and cash games around the globe, all the while studying the game and learning from every hand dealt. As the resident expert and cohost of Celebrity Poker Showdown, Phil has quickly become one of the most sought-after teachers of No Limit Texas Hold'em. It's a tough game. But anyone can become a winning player with the right amount of courage, patience, aggression, observation, and, perhaps most important, dedication to becoming a better player.
After fifteen years of keeping notes on the things he's learned, the greats he's played with, and the celebrities he's taught, Phil Gordon has poured every single thing he knows about No Limit Texas Hold'em into this little green book. Taking a page from Harvey Penick's bestselling book of golf wisdom, Phil plays the role of both teacher and student, offering up insightful tips on how to think about poker and how to develop a singular style of play. Through philosophy, psychology, strategy, math, and the knowledge gleaned from playing poker with everyone from T. J. Cloutier and Phil Ivey to Hank Azaria and Ben Affleck, Phil breaks down the game into enlightening instructional tidbits and illustrative anecdotes that inspire the kind of persistence and motivation necessary to improve your game.
A book to rank with Doyle Brunson's Super System and David Sklansky's The Theory of Poker, Phil Gordon's Little Green Book deserves a spot on the shelf of every serious student of the game.

Great Little Green.......2007-09-22
I have read quite a few books by the pros. However, this one is clearly the best so far. He speaks in terms that are understandable and he explains things well. I recommend this book for anyone in their early years of competing.
Gives you good advice.......2007-09-01
When you start playing Texas Hold'em, this is a good book to read now and then.
If you never read a poker book, this is a great first read........2007-08-29
If you've never read a poker book, this is one of the first books you should read. It will tell the novice how to start thinking about the game. If you ar fairly new to the game, then you will find this book a wealth of information. An intermediate player will find alot in this book as well, although it may never be 'cool' to quote Phil Gordon. Unfortunately, I think Mr. Gordon explains Pot Odds poorly. SUMMARY: For the player who wants to improve but doesn't want to get too deep into poker theory, there is no beating Phil Gordon. The Audiobook version is great for long car rides or subway commutes.
Thumbs up for Gordon's green book.......2007-07-04
Found this to be very educational and easy to follow. Actually listened to it typically driving out to a poker tournament and was able to apply some of the topics immediately.
good mix of theory and play.......2007-05-23
If you like the scenario type reading this book will help you. I get bored with just calculations so knowing the though process was helpful.
Book Description
In Poker: The Real Deal and Phil Gordon's Little Green Book, Phil Gordon -- a world-class player and teacher -- shared the strategies, tips, and expertise he's gleaned during his phenomenally successful career. Now he shows players how to apply those theories to actual hands in order to make smart, confident decisions with every move.
Gordon walks readers through hands that he's encountered in cash games; early, middle, and late tournament play; Sit & Gos; satellites and supersatellites; and the final table of the World Series of Poker, revealing not only what plays he made but also why he made them. He relates what goes through a pro's mind in every situation, whether it's a timely bluff or a questionable call, and helps players calculate their own best moves in the most pressure-fueled of situations. In analyzing specific hands, Gordon also imparts important lessons in key poker skills such as calculating odds, shorthanded play, and discovering tells. And he discusses memorable plays -- the good and the oh-so-bad -- explaining why certain moves were made and, in many cases, how the hands should have been played differently.
Insightful, witty, and filled with real-life pro secrets, Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book is required reading for every player looking to make a profit and raise his game to the next level.
Customer Reviews:
Basic, but good. Short and Informative.......2007-08-29
If you have basic poker knowledge (read the Phil Gordon's Green book) then this is a great follow-up. Even if you didn't read the Green book, you'll learn something reading this book. It's an easy read, entertaining, and has some good info. For a casual player who wants to get better but doesn't want to get too involved in poker theory, there's no beating Phil Gordon's Green and Blue book. For a serious player, it's still a good read if not a bit fluffy, like Phil Gordon himself. READ IT!
Occasional gems but few and far between.......2007-05-15
Phil Gordon claims that "The Little Blue Book" will teach you how to think about poker. I do not think his work lives up to that claim. The book is dedicated primarily to tournament analysis, with the first quarter of the book dedicated to cash game play.
If a book claims to teach you how to think about poker, then it firstly must provide a generic framework for thinking about poker problems and then it should use specific hand examples to show you how to apply that framework to make profitable decisions.
Gordon's book is a haphazardly assembled collection of hands along with his analysis, some of which is insightful and some of which is not. Some of his advice includes:
"Be careful when playing hands that are easily dominated - even drunks can play top two pair effectively"
"Do not underestimate the power of implied tilt odds. You can at times take the worst of it if a monster suckout will open a fire hose of angry tilting money"
"It's usually correct to slowplay when you flop an absolute monster"
"When a player who never bluffs makes a bet or a raise, you have to put him on a big hand"
To be fair to the book there are some good points inside but nothing that a solid intermediate poker player would not understand already. For a more comprehensive treatment of tournament poker, I would definitely recommend Harrington's three part poker series. I can't really recommend Gordon's book to any type of poker audience.
Phil Gordon.......2007-05-13
I have all of MR. Gordons books (3)....I enjoyed all of them...anyone who plays poker....should add them to their poker library...shari
Real Poker Stories.......2007-05-07
This is a great book for someone who knows the basics of Texas Hold 'Em, who has read some books on poker but found it hard to put their general rules of advice into effective play. Phil has found a form for combining real situations with the advice -- his stories around particular hands. Thoroughly enjoyed reading these stories and suspect you will as well.
Good Pleasure Reading.......2007-04-11
I am a little over half way through this book. I think it is similar to Harrington's (Harrington on Hold'em) style of writing about holdem in that it presents situations and takes you through the thought process of Gordon as he negotiates the hand. Campared to Harrington, Gordon's work is a little more to the point, a little less technical, and good pleasure reading. Each story has a little tip ("Key Analysis") at the end. I recommend it for anyone who loves the game and already has a lot of experience in playing and understands the fundamentals.
Customer Reviews:
good for what it does, but..........2007-08-05
This is good for what it does -- interpreting the body actions you and others display at the poker table. And some of the stuff is helpful. it will improve your game.
But body language is not nearly as important as other things. Like understanding which hands to play, how to put other players on hand ranges, how stack size influences play, and so on.
So you are better off reading a bunch of other books first. this might be the 6th or so book i'd recommend reading.
Good Book.......2007-08-03
For the beginning player. I've used some of the information I read here and won pots I shouldn't have. That in itself pays for the cost of the book.
Good Book.......2007-07-16
This was a birthday gift for my husband and he has already read it 3 times. He couldn't put it down for the first read through.
Basic Poker Information.......2007-05-09
If you are new to poker then this book might be worth the money. Frankly, anyone who has watched TV Poker for more than a year has probably picked up most of this stuff from the commentators. Today everyone is an expert, and lots of the stuff they spout is from Caro's book. So newbies will find it useful, but anyone who has played awhile or watched much TV poker might not get much out of it.
Great book.......2007-05-07
The mad genius knows his stuff. great book to add to your poker library.

Beautiful Cards and Great Buy!.......2007-10-09
Arrived in the mail today and I'm extremely pleased! Super buy ~ full-sized paperback book included along with a beautiful (free!) "Ancient 10-Card Tarot Spread" Poster AND the cards are extremely beautiful! Having had the "original" set, I was very glad to see the more colorful Universal and Radiant sets come out. I could not imagine the Radiant set being more vibrant and beautiful than this (Universal). I think it is the correct "fit" (at least for me) of all three of the "classic" Waite Decks. You won't go wrong with this item ~ you'll be extremely pleased and happy!
"A" good material.......2007-09-08
This is a good companion to Classic of Changes. I'll recomend it my friends.
Cards good but book very basic.......2007-09-03
The cards are great but its not worth the extra money for the book. Just buy the cards on their own. The descriptions for each card were very short. It would have been useful to be able to read some of the pages before I bought it.
Most beautiful Rider Waite deck.......2007-07-12
I usually purchase this deck to give to friends and students because it is beautifully coloured. When reading the Tarot it is very important to connect with the deck, and this most certainly is a connectable deck.
Excellent.......2007-06-27
I got these cards because it included a book. the book is a bit difficult and i don't really read it. although when i become more advanced it will probably be easy to comprehend and will come in handy. but the cards are great! very pretty and bright. whoever did it is a good artist. i've grown to love those "characters". lol. as you know they help you out daily. it is a good deck.

Customer Reviews:
Great cards!.......2007-08-24
I do not feel that you need the video (though we do have it) to get the full use of these cards. I have never once used them at the same time as the video, though I believe they do get reinforced while watching it. I have been using them with our daughter since she was
<1yo. She is now 18 months and can say every one on there (either by name or sound, depending on what I have taught her). Additionally, I can scatter them in a pile, and she can pick out the ones I call to her. When I say, "Let's do cards.", she goes running to them right away. We really like them. The cards are colorful, very sturdy and a great development tool in my opinion.
Real-life images of stuffed animals.......2007-07-28
First, let me say that my child is a big fan of the Baby Einstein dvds. They do have educational value and are generally well done. The description of the flash cards includes the following "Each beautifully illustrated card features real-life images...". What about 50% of the cards featured were "real-life images" of stuffed animals. I expected a photo of a cow, pig, rooster, etc. There were photos or photo-realistic images of the fruits, but not of the animals. It was like a catalog for the toys used in the videos. I was very disappointed.
Drool Resistant.......2007-05-14
My husband and I purchased these cards for our 9-month old son. We figured the cards would be a learning toy that would entertain him for many months to come. Our baby is really intrigued by the cards - mouthing them and enjoying the brightly colored images on the cards. The cards are printed on heavy laminated stock and have, so far, withstood drool and teething bites.
I can see us inventing many different games with the cards as he gets older. And the back of each card gives you (simple) suggestions of questions to ask your child (example: flower - "Flowers smell nice. Show me how you smell a flower.")
I hesitate to give the cards a 5-Star rating because of two issues. 1. I would prefer the animal images on the cards be actual objects instead of stuffed animals (example: a photo of a real duck would be more educational than a picture of a stuffed animal duck). 2. On the back of every card, it tells which Baby Einstein video the image is first introduced. I am not sure why this info is important...other than it serves to promote their videos. To me, it comes across as an ad and turns me off a bit (but that's just me).
Son Sparkled. Mom Sparkled Too!.......2007-03-18
We love these cards! By we, I mean our entire family. I purchased these for my 18 month old. We already had the video and was delighted with it, and I thought these would be a great extension to further explore other languages. My son absolutely beamed over the pictures, espicially the peas, the dog, and the firetruck. I love that I'm learning with him, and it is easy because the pronunciations are spelled out in a way that is easy to understand. He knows over half of the cards in Spanish by now. Additionally, and unforseen, my eighteen year old and her boyfriend like to hold the cards up and try to pronounce the words in all of the languages: Spanish, French, Russian, German, Hebrew, Japanese. They laugh as they are learning. It is great interaction for all of us!
these cards are a perfect learning tool for toddlers.......2007-02-18
I got these cards because my little girl is still not talking. On the first day I recieved these, her eyes lit up when she saw the bright pictures and she really enjoyed them. I have trouble getting her attention and these cards worked instantly. I think that these cards are a great teaching tool for parents of toddlers. She is well on her way. I would highly recommend these. =)
Book Description
A fast-growing craft trend, handled by experts.
Choose an object—a cigar box, playing cards, an old album cover—and use it as a creative starting point to make beautiful and entirely new items to display and use: that’s “altered art,” and it’s the fastest-growing trend in the craft world today. Here is the first book to explore the full range of its possibilities, from turning a vintage board game into a nostalgic wall hanging to creating whimsical art dolls from children’s blocks. Take a look at the artistic traditions that inspired this movement, and see how to use the crafter’s familiar tools, materials, and processes in entirely new ways. Paint, collage, pierce, sew, and cut the pages of an old book. Change an ordinary candy tin into a charming decorative storage case with paper scraps, metal grommets, and paint. The possibilities are infinite. The author lives in Asheville, NC.
Customer Reviews:
Amazingly Beautiful...And helpful!.......2007-05-31
I browsed through this book at the local craft store at least three times over several visits before I finally decided to buy it. I sure am glad that I did! Not only is it visually appealing, filled with so many wonderful ideas, techniques, and creative springboards for one's own ideas, but it simply, yet clearly gives directions on so many different techniques. In fact, I think that the only technique that was mentioned but not fully covered was soldering.
Everything else was carefully explained, and beautifully detailed. It does cover: altered art (obviously), altered books, cards, jewelery, dolls, techniques, copyrights, history, and much much more.
I have been creating mixed-media collages and altered art for about 2 years now, so I'd consider myself, well, not a beginner but not as advanced as others. But I believe this book would be helpful to anyone, at any level. I highly recommend it and enjoy it each time I refer back to it.
Wonderful!.......2006-07-15
It is an absolutely beautiful book, filled with great projects and suggestions. For someone with creative aspirations but little direction, just flipping through the pages provides so much inspiration.
This book is full of .........2006-04-05
.. brilliance! You won't get through it in a day or two. I have never seen so many photographs in one book before. The projects are awesome and the author, Terry Taylor, has chosen some fantastic designers to display their work. Terry is brilliant and it is evident in his art. This is an extremely inspiring book.
An Altered Showcase.......2006-03-10
Altered Art showcases some of the most fun altered art out there today.
This field is expanding exponentially - it seems so accessible - and offers
a relief from the generally serious world we live in.
Not that altered art can't (and doesn't) have a serious side all its own. As illustration, compare the Nori Dress by Dee Fontans on page 140 with I'll Fly Away on page 128 by Betsy Reeves. They each speak to the same theme in two entirely different languages.
Terry Taylor has assembled an incredible array of talented artists, doing what they do best, altering the bits of our wonderful, wacky, crazy and sometimes sad world into a storytelling vision of art that transcends time.
Wonderful Surprise.......2006-02-05
I did not know what to expect when I picked up this book. I saw such high reviews on Amazon when I was scanning through scrapbooking and collage topics. The book covers various projects including altered books, boxes, tags, objects, games and more. In each section you are given some basics for working with the specific type of objects. This is followed by projects and a gallery of work featuring various artists' work.
My favorite chapter and the one I will try first was the Cards, Tags, and Games chapter. It contained some beautiful tags and games. The other chapters are equally as innovative and interesting. There is brief discussion of history of altered art, copyright issues/ethics, sources for imagery and some basic steps and supplies. The photography is great and the projects and gallery were fun and very different.
Definitely recommend this for anyone interested in altered art.

Play like Chan (would be nice).......2007-03-30
This is the best beginner/intermediate book that I have seen. It covers all the popular poker games of the day plus general tips on all the games and how to play at a Casino. John also discusses some of the great players he has played against. I must mention the paper is excellent (no cheap stuff here) and the illustrations (photos?) of the cards make it very easy to use. Highly recommended
Wide-ranging strategy guide by a poker pro.......2005-11-07
This a beautifully produced, pricey paperback covering the poker games that Chan plays. Of course, he doesn't just play, he wins big. By my count, he's won ten WSOP events.
The book is something of a scrapbook of poker photos, with strategies on many poker games: basically stud, omaha, both high and high low, as well as limit and no-limit Texas hold'em. He describes his thinking as a hold'em hand progresses -- very useful.
By the way, there is little math in book, so if you're looking for the clearest expression of pot odds, implied odds, look elswhere. (For a book that leads you safely through the odds jungle, see Weighing the Odds in Hold'em Poker by King Yao.)
Remember the list price is $30. The qualiy paper and color photos cost more. In fact, even the hands are shown in color photographs.
This is a worthwhile book with insights from a successful player, covering too many kinds of poker to be the ultimate in-depth guide to any one of them. Yet it scores in readability way above the serious classics by Sklansky, Malmuth and others.
It's not the best first book on poker as it's too advanced for a beginner, but it may well be the best second one.
Fantastic.......2005-09-22
Saw this book on amazon.com and figured, what the hell, I'll buy it and see what happens. Got it a week later, read the section on limit hold em first, since that's about the only game I play well, and was surprised my gameplay was very different to what was mentioned. After reading it and trying out the different techniques, I was pleasantly surprised to see my profits increasing. Well worth the price and the time to read. Have since read through the other sections and am finding myself getting some good earnings in Omaha and 5 card stud as well, although 5 card stud is a bit tricky.
I definitely believe this book is good for beginners and advanced players alike. Well written, easy to read, clear illustrations and excellent presentation overall.
An in-depth discussion of card-counting or related mathematical methodology.......2005-09-12
A solid "how-to" guide co-written by the highly-regarded poker player Johnny Chan, whose titles include 2002 WSOP Match Play NLH Champion and 2003 WSOP No Limit Hold-em Champion among many others, Play Poker Like Johnny Chan: Book One Casino Poker is a simple guide to poker basics for players who are out to win. Chapters discuss general poker concepts for the uninitiated, and the rules and favorable versus unfavorable situations for many poker variants including Limit Hold-em, Seven Card Stud, Eight Or Better Stud, Omaha High, Omaha Hi-Low, and No-Limit Hold-em. Some background information on tournaments and internet poker is included, as is general (and very sound) strategy advice for the would-be career poker player, as well as a mentions of famous and skilled individuals Chan has played with. Notably absent from Play Poker Like Johnny Chan is any in-depth discussion of card-counting or related mathematical methodology; it is primarily an introductory guide to give the reader a hands-on understanding of game mechanics as well as the importance of the professional mindset. Chan's key rules - keep playing when you are winning, stop when you are losing, stay to an environment where you feel comfortable, take a vacation from poker when you need it (never try to win the money needed for a vacation from poker when you need one, that's a certain way to burnout), and discipline yourself to move back down to smaller tables when you're losing at big tables - are vital and should be taken to heart by all prospective professional poker players. Full-color photographs illustrate this handy primer, which is printed on glossy paper.
Good Beginner's Poker Book.......2005-08-09
This book cover the basic rules and strategies of different poker games. Personally, I did not find this book very useful partially due to my participation in many tournaments and cash games weekly.
All in all this book is nice to read, great for beginners, and printed on nice material, but I would not recommend for intermediate poker players. However, if you are often beat in cash games or tournaments then this book may be useful.

The More I Read It, The More I Like It!.......2007-09-14
When I bought this book several months ago, I read it
and didn't like it much. It seemed to be too bombastic,
with large, bold fonts and other unorthodox styles.
Serious blackjack books should be more scholarly.
After reading a handful of other BJ books, I returned
to Blackjack Bluebook to find some information, and
ended up reading it again. Gee, this isn't a bad book.
Some of this information is pretty good, and up-to-date.
Then while on vacation a couple weeks ago, I took along
a half-dozen BJ books to review, so I could pick a counting
strategy to learn. And Blackjack Bluebook again came in
very handy. Actually, Mr. Renzey's Mentor count is one of
the few counts on my short list to learn.
The best part of this book is that it starts off with the
very basic strategy(don't all BJ books?) and progresses
through easy, moderate, skilled and on to a professional
count. So you can choose how much you want to learn about
BJ, and pick the best method for you to challenge the casinos.
Let's face it, the casinos don't give money away. You have
to earn it. And, Blackjack Bluebook shows you the path to
profitable BJ play.
Best Blackjack Book I've Read...........2007-05-24
I enjoy playing Blackjack for entertainment value as well as the chance to make a little cash. After mastering basic strategy, most experts leave you with card counting as the only way to further your game. I'm not a professional gambler, and have no inclination to become one. I've tried counting, and for me, it detracts from the enjoyment of playing the game.
Renzey offers solid, statistically valid options to improve a player's chances at the tables, and he does so at different levels of "committment" by the player. You can choose how much time you want to invest in study and practice, but even the simplest level helps to turn the odds toward your favor. Renzey's more advanced options begin to delve into the card counting realm, but are significantly easier and faster to learn. I find I can still enjoy the "play" as well as the "results."
Hands down, the best Blackjack book I've ever read.
how to play.......2007-04-11
I love the way that this book breaks down strategy for the casual player all the way up to professional play and it explains it in a progressive manner so that one can see what level they are playing at in a clearly defined manner. I also found the book to be a quick read making it accessible to quickly finding what information you were looking for on a need to know basis.
Outstanding BJ Book.......2007-03-19
I've read several books on blackjack and this is by far the best. I'm not one to take the time to write a review, but I am so overwhelmed with this book that I had to take a few moments to share my thoughts. Most of us already know the basics, but Renzy takes the reader into a deck of cards in an easy to understand view from the inside out. I learned more in one reading of his book than I have in five years of playing blackjack. Myths were exposed and wrong plays were corrected. I've had to unlearn several bad habits after reading this book. Thanks Fred Renzey!!!
Renzey is the Real Deal.......2007-03-01
I've known Fred for many years and I can testify that this is a man who understands blackjack inside and out. He is a top notch player and his book is a must read for players interested in becoming more advanced in their knowledge. Whether you use his various count systems is not as important as understanding the proper approach to becoming an advantage player at this game - and Fred is an astute, intelligent advantage player. You cannot have too much knowledge at this game and a wealth of good reading experiences is good for you and bad for the casinos. Enjoy!
