Book Description
What do you do after you walk down the aisle in four weddings in a few months-none of them your own? What's left after you've donned the must-have-not dresses of the season, forked over your cash, and fake-smiled your way through countless photos? After you've dealt with the smashed guest, the smooshed cake, the dashed hopes, and the missed bouquets? That's what Cate Padgett is starting to wonder, as she embarks on stint after stint on the sidelines, watching friends swap bar-hopping for baby-naming...while her own love life goes nowhere fast. But is Cate unwilling to settle down-or just unwilling to settle? And can anyone really judge her if they haven't walked in her dyed-to-match shoes?
Wild, witty, and full of weddings to cry over, Always the Bridesmaid is an endearingly romantic comedy about standing out in the crowd even when everyone's wearing the same celery-green dress...and daring to make every day The Happiest Day of Your Life.

Fast entertaining read.......2007-06-05
This book was a very "fast read". Situational parts of the book were very funny. I read them aloud to my retired father who was visiting and he asked to take the book home with him. He read it on the plane and said he really enjoyed it. This really surprised me as I can't recall that he has ever read a romance novel. I liked the fact that it doesn't contain graphic sex. Also, it was descriptive enough that I could picture "the movie" as I was reading it.
ZZZZZZZzzzzz............2007-03-20
I read some of the reviews on here which talked about how "laugh out loud funny" this book is and I couldnt wait to read it. BUT...now that I bought it and read it, I wish I had actually taken the time to read the bad reviews about it because this book is NOTHING like I anticipated it would be!
The writing is slow paced and was VERY hard to get into. This book is shorter than the usual books I read and it took me about twice as long just for the fact I WAS NOT INTO IT!!! I just kept reading though, hoping something good would was going to come like some of the reviews said.
Although there were a few funny moments, I was SOOO BORED out of my mind with this story that I seriously had to FORCE myself just to pick it up!!!
My advice is to save yourself the time and the money from reading this book. Unless you want a nice borring book to put you to sleep, I wouldn't bother!
My guess is the only reason this book has such high reviews is because the author rated herself!! Notice how most of the reviews are from "a reader" with no name? How the hell would someone give this book 5 STARS? Are you kiding me?
Easy, fun read with likeable characters.......2007-02-05
This was the first Whitney Lyles book I've read, and I just loved it. It was a fast, fun, and easy read. I finished the book and just didn't want it to end.... and I found that she'd written more books! I was thrilled. If you want to relax with a book, here is a great one.
Laugh out loud, funny........2006-09-09
This book was just plain fun. Was the ending predictable? You bet, but who cares. I woke my husband up (a lot) laughing out loud. I did think the ending just a touch abrupt but it was a great ride getting there.
GREAT BOOK!!!!!!.......2006-09-08
I read "Here Comes the Bride" first and absolutely LOVED IT! I immediately found this one, "Always the Bridesmaid" and it was just as amazing. Quick, easy reading, impossible to put down. A story about an everyday person that you can easily get immersed in! A must read!
(However, please read Always the Bridesmaid -- FIRST! Here Comes the Bride is a sequel.

A tender romance.......2007-06-22
Reviewed by Lori Plach for Reader Views (6/07)
When you least expect it, it can happen. Just what is "it?" For Jena, Lara and Melody it is an opportunity for love. Not just "puppy" love but the real thing. None of the three young Wisconsin women are expecting to find their soul-mate but that is what happens.
Jena needs a summer job. Travis is a busy lawyer whose wife died leaving him to raise his young daughters, Mandi and Carly, on his own. He advertises for a "summer girl." A summer girl is someone who will take care of his daughters, do some light housekeeping and take the girls to their activities. Travis' sister Glenda was living in the attached apartment and taking care of the girls until a man interested her and she ran off with him. Travis is expecting someone much younger than 26. But 26-year-old Jena comes to interview and Travis is impressed, so he hires her. Jena fills the void that the girls feel since losing their mother and love starts to grow not only for the girls but also for Travis. When summer is over, will Jena be gone from the girls lives?
Aren't the older sisters always supposed to marry before the younger ones? Melody always thought that she would get married before her younger sister Bonnie. Bonnie's new fiance is coming to dinner at their parents and wedding plans are set into motion. Oh no, Bonnie's fiance is someone who Melody used to date. Melody's parents are all pleased and the house soon becomes Wedding Central. Melody just wants someone to talk to, so she starts spending more and more time with Luke, the neighbor guy who has always loved Melody. Will Melody and Luke discover that they are more than just neighbors and friends? Will Bonnie still marry Scott when she finds out what happened to her sister's dealings with her intended?

Customer Reviews:
It's a joke....lighten up!.......2004-08-16
This book is written as a funny joke. The dress is awful and I thought it was funny when she wore it in different situations. Some of the people who didn't like it sound like they were uptight brides who were worried their bridesmaid didn't like the dress they picked out. If one of my bridesmaids wore her dress to get her driver's license picture taken, I'd laugh (...) off.
There isn't much (if any) real advice for what to do with a bridesmaid dress, so if you are looking for such a book, you might not like it.
Not what I was expecting.......2003-09-27
I bought this book for one of my bridesmaids, in whose wedding I was also a bridesmaid. She kept assuring us that we would be able to "wear that dress again," so when it was my turn I thought this would be a funny gift for her at the rehearsal dinner. The book is not quite what I was expecting. I thought the pictures would illustrate the funny suggestions, but the pictures were just wierd. They were just pictures in the dress in different places, not what I had in mind, but it was too late to return it and order another.
Great gift for bridesmaids.......2001-06-19
This gift was the most popular that I gave my bridesmaids. From the start of my wedding planning, I knew that they would never wear the dresses again. So, I picked the most affordable dress that I liked and admitted right up front that I knew that they would never wear it again. (Coming from someone with about 5 bridesmaids dresses hidden in my parent's home.) At the rehearsal dinner, I gave the girls this book along with jewelry to wear at the wedding. They loved the book! The girls kept laughing and pointing out some of the unusual places that the author wore the dress. It certainly helped everyone put a smile on their face and relax before the wedding. :)
Fun!!.......2001-04-11
I gave this book to my bridesmaids, along with a more traditional gift. The two who had already been in 5 or more weddings loved it! They both have the closet full of pouffy tafetta and chiffon in a rainbow of colors they didn't look so great in and will NEVER wear again. I tried to keep the dress I chose for them simple and not "bridesmaidy" but if they will never want to wear it again, at least this book will give them ideas of what they can do with it. A fun gift for your bridesmaids and to keep the bride in touch with the fact that no matter what she thinks, her bridesmaids will more than likely not like the dress she chooses. But at least now, they have recycling options.
A Refreshing Change to Traditional Gifts.......2000-04-19
I'm sure I'll get more of a reaction after giving my bridesmaids this book than after they open the jewelry I'm also giving them.
This is hilariously funny and I would recommend that any bride with a sense of humor consider giving it to their bridesmaids along with the more "traditional" gifts.

Goodbye aqua taffeta . . .hello wedding white.

Fun 'n Fluffy!.......2007-04-08
Always a Bridesmaid is a cute anthology of three very talented writers. While none of the stories require heavy thinking, they are the perfect material for reading if you are in the mood for light entertainment and introduce you to a few new authors (if you haven't read any of their books before, like I hadn't). Although the first story ("Backseat Groom" by Jane Sullivan) is my personal favorite, all three have their own charm and are great fun to read. The perfect read if you're in the mood for a fluffy piece of fun!
Well..........2004-05-20
I bought this book less than a month ago and read it soon after. Even after rereading the Amazon.com summary of each story, I can barely remember anything at all about each story. Draw your own conclusions as to how good this book of 3 stories is. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I did remember a few details.
Book Description
It's bad enough when your love life is going nowhere fast -- it's worse when everyone else's is soaring!
That's the personal tragedy that appears to have befallen Amy O'Sullivan, as she careens toward the "Big Three-O" with what she laughingly refers to as a "career" at a dead end. Amy's little sister has come home with her "Golden Delicious" Australian fiancé in tow. Amy's girlfriend Beth is also planning on tying the knot with her own Mr. Right in the near future. And another "friend" has just slept with the man Amy figured she herself might end up marrying! So what's a perennial bridesmaid to do . . . after she's spent more than enough time and energy lying in bed, wallowing in self-pity? Why, move on, of course! She's needed (sort of) at the bookstore where, as "Story Princess," she's expected to enliven young lives, even as her own sinks deeper in the mire.
Then again, perhaps there are actual Prince Charmings out there in the real world. And a pitiful princess never knows what -- or who -- is going to come walking in the door holding the hand of an eager little girl . . .
Customer Reviews:
Great Book!.......2007-10-10
I loved this book!!! As the title suggests, the story is about a woman who cannot seem to find happiness in love while everyone around her does. It was well written and while some of Amy's behavior was frustrating, it made her a well rounded character. This is a really good chick lit novel that chronicles the main character's development both professionally and personally. If you are into chick lit, then you will enjoy this book.
As for the swearing - well you must not know the Irish or the British for that matter - they favor swearing far more than Americans. But if it bothers you to read a realistic depiction, then this probably is not the book for you.
Great chick lit!.......2005-10-05
I found this at the used book store and came online to check out the reviews on amazon. I saw that they were mostly negative. So, getting into this book, I assumed the worst. I expected bad writing with a main character who people hate.
Well, let me tell you that's that's NOT what I found! I found a character who is completely human and who has insecurities like the rest of us. She can be bitter about love at times, which is understandable considering what happens in the book. She may say mean things to people, but apologizes immedietly because she knows she shouldn't take out her hurt and anger on the people she loves.
This is one book I'm glad I found and picked up. I hope you do the same.
I hope to read more, assuming new releaase will come out, from this author in the future.
Not typical chick-lit. .......2005-03-10
I'm surprised by all the negative reviews that this book has recieved. I will admit that it's not the best book I've ever read, but it's not as horrible as some reviewers make it out to be.
The heroine is not the typical chick-lit heroine, which is probably the reason readers don't like the book. Soon after Amy discovers that her best friend Jodie is sleeping with her ex-fiance, her sister and her best friend announce that they're both getting married within the same week - and they both want Amy to be their bridesmaid. Amy reacts the way that many people would when confronted with such a situation - she refuses to speak to Jodie, goes on drunken binges, and does her best to exact revenge. While she's dealing with this, she also has to help her sister and her friend Beth with their wedding plans.
Amy is not the typical saccharinely sweet chick-lit heroine. Like most real women, she has a mean streak, and can sometimes react to things in ways that aren't neccesarily rational. For me, this made her a character I could relate to, not a character I hated. Amy is unhappy with her job, her personal life, and her situation in general, and the book resolves all the problems in a realistic way, instead of tying them up neatly and unrealistically the way most fairytale chick-lit does. If you're looking for a book that will encourage you to change the things you are unhappy with in your life, I would recommend "Always the Bridesmaid".
Always the Bridesmaid.......2004-08-26
This book was a letdown. Having recently spent some time in Ireland I was eagerly anticipating a fun chick read taking place there. Instead, I found the main character annoying, whiny and completely self-absorbed! Additionally, she used everyone around her and gave not much back! I found her unlkeable. The author threw in random scenes of drunkenness and one night stand type sex & frankly I couldn't figure out how such a generally unlovable individual would be attracting all those men. I stuck this book out to the end hoping that I'd get a glimpse of a likeable person in the protagonist but didn't. I suggest instead Patricia Scanlan's books which also take place in Dublin.
Don't waste your money........2004-06-06
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I actually read the entire book (but that's only because I can't just start a book and never finish it). Although, I'd have to say it definately wasn't worth my time.
I suppose the plot had potential, but the characters were a bit frustrating. Amy was unlikeable for me. She was way too moody and could be a real pain in the rear. Beth had way too much patience for her and Steve had a leash around his neck. There's no way a man would stand for all the crud Amy put him through.
The ending was a happy one and predictable. By the end though, I was just excited that I could soon begin a new book.

Highly recommended romance.......2006-07-08
I thoroughly enjoyed Andrea Boeshaar's Broken Things and Precious Things, but I wasn't sure about a romance book. But Boeshaar avoided the formula romance and created a warm, home town story that happened to be romantic. Not once did I roll my eyes and think, "No way." I was drawn into Melody's life by Boeshaar's stellar writing. The wonderful descriptions throughout the book gave me a feeling of being there, not just reading about it. I became invested in the characters and the outcome. I got indignant when Melody's family suspected she might not be telling the truth. I strongly disliked Bonnie's fiancé. I fell in love with Luke, and I cheered the denouement.
I highly recommend you grab a tall glass of iced tea and take this book out on the porch--it's a perfect summer read.

Spiritually Enlightening & Smoothly Written!.......2004-08-05
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Each page peaked my interest and kept my focus. It was hard to put down because I wanted to find out what would happen next! I connected with the main character's spiritual quest, and human imperfection. I recommend that everyone--both men and women--make this book a MUST for their reading collection. Great job, Renea Overstreet!
Juicy yet spritual!.......2004-07-28
Let me start by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I think this author is an excellent writer. I thought chapter one set the tone well for the rest of the book. I'll tell you, my curiosity was peaked from chapter to chapter. I could pretty much visualize the whole book. I connected with the characters immediately as if they were some of my own colleagues. The situations that the main character would find herself involve in and her mental processes behind each seemed very real. I appreciated the author's ability to display a more realistic view of the struggles of some Christians because it is important for non-Christians and other Christians to be reminded that people do struggle in their endeavor to be a follower of Christ. Believe me when I say there are some valuable lessons taught in this book. But to top off everything, I felt like this book provided some powerful spiritual insight. I literally highlighted all of the words of empowerment throughout this book. I highly recommend this book for your enjoyment but a few words of caution---It just might change your life. (I'm ready to read a sequel)

Book Description
Beautiful blondes are dying in Squirrel Hollow, Connecticut, and everyone in town thinks they can solve the mystery in two words: Dakotah Jones.
Accused of offing the homecoming queen a decade earlier, Kody reluctantly returns to Squirrel Hollow to serve as Maid of Honor at her best friend’s wedding. The ink on the invitations is barely dry before bridesmaids start dropping and rumors start flying. Again. Time has done nothing to soften the heart of newspaper editor Justin Melrose, either, as he leads the charge to arrest Kody. Again.
Someone is playing a psychotic game of déjà vu and Kody's ''it.'' Again. But now, armed only with indignation, intuition and an aunt who is a retired spy (well, that’s the word around town at any rate), Kody tries to clear her name, bring a killer to justice, figure out if she should date—or hate—the police detective on the case, and pull off the wedding of the decade ... all before the last bridesmaid dies.

skip this wedding.......2001-05-10
Poor writing, an improbable story line, characters who have little believability or appeal -- what more does one need to put together a decidedly inferior book? This one has them all.
A sleepy little town with a violent secret.......2000-11-16
Dakotah Jones pulled a vanishing act 10 years ago when she left Squirrel Hollow, Connecticut and set out to become a newspaper woman in Brooklyn. Now she's back, and murder has followed her. Just as it was a decade prior, she is the prime suspect. This cozy little mystery plots friend against friend, and Kody Jones is too much of a reporter to ignore a good lead, even if it leads to a friend...or a long time enemy. Suspects abound in Squirrel Hollow, and Kody intends to get to the bottom of the crime wave, with or without the help of the town's no-nonsense dective.
Great Characters Here!.......2000-09-18
