Deceptive Title.......2007-07-14
If you've just been hit with the revelation of your husband's "secret life", this book may not help. The title is deceptive because it implies that you will be healed after reading it.(Healing is God's job!) I was frustrated with the first few chapters, because it dealt with man's sexuality rather than the wife's torment. My raw agony was nowhere to be found within the pages of this book. However, this book was still useful. Overall, the book was all right.
There were nuggets of practical advice and hope. I liked the way views from both wives and husbands were presented. The most important thing I learned was that it is possible for a husband to love his wife and still sin against her. I don't understand it or like it, but I believe it and this book does a good job of introducing that concept. I also learned a lot about the importance of a Christian wife's role of encouraging her husband spiritually. I liked Fred's description about how Brenda influenced him by lovingly refusing to accept anything less than righteousness from him. I also liked Brenda's attitude that her destiny is forever entwined with Fred's and that when one sins it pollutes the stream for both of them.
If you are in deep pain right now, understand that healing will take lots of time and lots of God. This book won't fix you or your marriage, but it can give you some insight and encouragement. For biblical healing, I strongly recommend "Lord Heal My Hurts" by Kay Arthur.
Great book.......2007-06-29
I'm half-way through it. So far, it is a really great book w/ super insight. I highly recommend it. Best description for this book would be "lifechanging".
WHAT A GREAT BOOK! .......2007-02-23
This is an outstanding book. This addresses a very real problem and does it in terms we can all understand. It is an easy read and includes enough actual stories from actual people to cross the bounds of "it could never happen to us" Thanks Fred and Brenda!
You are NOT alone!.......2006-09-02
This book has helped me realize that I am not alone and that it is completely NORMAL to have these types of feelings.
Women share their personal stories and feelings in this book. Wisdom is handed out to help you make your own decisions.
One word of caution...personally, it kind of fueled my fire in a way...not sure how to describe it, but it almost gave me more bullets against my husband.
It's not a feel good read by any means, but it is a should read.
Realistic and helpful steps to restoration.......2006-08-27
Understanding why your spouse was stupid enough to become entangled in the porno web is one thing; forgiving him and restoring your relationship is quite another. This book lays it all bare and gives practical counsel that, if followed, will help a woman wanting to accomplish that end.
Some reviewers of this book expressed disappointment with the focus on pornography and masterbation, but I bought it anyway. Adultery begins in the mind. With easy access to internet pornography, thoughts are turned into images. Sexual obsessions have mental, spiritual, and emotional ramifications. Each has to be acknowledged and addressed. This means going back to where it begins. Cut off a weed at its roots and it will die. This is a good book for women who are truly ready to forgive.

For over 30 years, Joyce Meyersuffered the devastating effects of verbal, sexual, and physical abuse. Today, she has a worldwide ministry of emotional healing for others like herself. In BEAUTY FOR ASHES, she outlines the major truths that brought healing to her life and describes how other victims of abuse can also experience this healing, including how to deal with the emotional pain of abuse, how to understand your responsibility to God for overcoming abuse, why victims of abuse often suffer from other addictive behaviors, how to grab hold of God's unconditional love, and the importance of God's timing in working through painful memories. By sharing her personal story, Joyce Meyer wants to help others find inner peace through their belief in God.

Offers Real Answers.......2007-08-08
Having been a victim of abuse Joyce is able to speak to others who have been abused on their level, not just from observation or education. She doesn't just leave the reader in the place of accepting that they have things they need to work through, but she leads them through the same steps she took by God's hand to receive that healing. I have used this book to lead a women's study group and have been wonderfully blessed to witness the changes that have come out of their applying these truths to their lives.
Healing .......2007-07-05
I have read the book twice and found it very refreshing. I got a new copy for a friend that was sexually abused.
Beauty For Ashes: Receiving Emotional Healing.......2007-05-17
This book is a benefit to anyone regardless of their history. Personally, I have had a emotional, trama filled life until God got a hold of me, but this book helps tie in God's Word an apply it to real life situations.
A place for healing to begin.......2007-05-10
Joyce tells her story in a manner that is bold, courageous, and transparent. She holds nothing back; both her strengths and her shortcomings are displayed on the pages of Beauty for Ashes. This book helped me take a good look at myself and to then focus on the nature and promises of God. It helped me at a time when I was very ill and had faced many losses. (Author, With Great Mercy.)
Living Proof.......2007-04-12
God brought this book into my life at just the right time. In reading this book I've finally been able to face the abuse of my past and start the road to recovery and healing. The Holy Spirit has moved in my life in an amazing way as a result of Joyce Meyer's teachings. I've been able to come to terms with horrible emotional pain and am experiencing the freedom of forgiveness towards myself and others. Through the wisdom I've gained I've already broken off a dysfunctional relationship and am growing stronger everyday in Christ. I now realize that my pain is my past and doesn't have to dictate my life now or in the future. I am free, I am whole, I am God's precious child and I am loved unconditionally by my Heavenly Father.
Joyce Meyer is offers very practical information. No fancy words or super spiritual mumbo jumbo that makes you feel like you can't apply these principles in your life. She makes sense, and she's been through it too.
I recommend this book for ANYONE who has endured any type of abuse: sexual, physical, emotional or verbal. Those memories, feelings and thoughts don't have to hold you in bondage any longer. Shame, guilt, rejection, sadness, depression, lonliness....you can allow the Holy Spirit to break these strongholds over your life.
I know...because I am living proof.

Customer Reviews:
Basic Text of SCA, not SAA.......2002-11-08
Just as claraification: This book was written by anonymous members of the group Sexual Compulsives Anonymous (SCA) and is the basic text of that group. I am a member of SCA and I have found this book extremely helpful. I would recommend it to anyone, both on the basis of a standalone book and and a possible introduction to what SCA is about.
It's not the basic text of SAA.......2002-04-08
I was checking out some recovery books on Amazon and noticed this review about "Hope and Recovery". I'm a member of Sex Addicts Anonymous and "Hope and Reovery" IS NOT the basic text of that fellowship. It is read, but it's not the basic text. If you read the Steps and Traditions in the book, and really the rest of the book, nowhere is Sex Addicts Anonymous ever mentioned in those pages. I'm not saying "don't read Hope and Recovery," I just want to make it clear that it's not the basic text of SAA.
"Hope and Recovery" is a good read especially if you're a sex addict seeking recovery. It's a great book to "identify" with the problem of sex addiction. What has helped me in my recovery program with sex addiction, however, is reading the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the AA "Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions"--the start of all 12-Step recovery programs. Though not an alcoholic, I can translate the problem as well as the solution to my sex addiction and my recovery from it, one day at a time. I use these two books more than I use "Hope and Recovery."
A very in-depth tool book of recovery for sexual addiction........1998-07-16
Hope & Recovery is the current basic text of SAA (Sex Addicts Anomyous, a twelve-step group for sexually recovering people). The book is designed for individuals who feel that they are sexually compusive and are looking for information on the addictive disease and "tools" to use to become and remain free from sexual addiction. Each of the twelve steps is explained in detail on how they can be lived daily for sexual recovery. A number of individuals tell their own experiences of how they lived their disease, discovered the hope of the program, and how they are currently living a life of recovery. The book is well written, sensitive, hopeful, and a continual must read through the journey of recovery. Definately Hope & Recovery.

Have you ever been lied to by a lover? In this straightforward and supportive book, therapist Susan Forward profiles the wide variety of liars, shows you how to deal with the lies -- from the benign to the lethal -- that these men spin, and gives practical strategies to stop them before they ruin your relationship and, ultimately, your life.
Once you find out the truth about your lover and his lies, what do you do? Forward offers practical, proven, step-by-step methods for healing the wounds caused by his deception and betrayal. She provides all the communication and behavioral techniques you need to deal with a lover's lies, telling you exactly what to say, when and how to respond to his reactions, and how to present your requirements for staying in the relationship. With understanding and compassion, she helps you decide whether your relationship can be saved and shows you how to move beyond doubt and regret if you feel that it can't. But whether you stay or go, you can learn to love and trust again.
Customer Reviews:
Bought This.......2007-09-05
I bought this book for someone I don't even know. On a whim. I never gave it to her. I read it, just because I had it and I read everything.
If you have someone in your life who has deceived you, it's a good, healing, understand-yourself book.
When Your Book Title Is a Lie..........2007-04-16
When Your "Lover..." Is a Liar should be titled "When Your MAN Is a Liar..." The author is a women's advocate who only mentions men as liars and women as victims. She should have known better than to use a deceptive title given the nature of the book but probably didn't want to limit sales. Shame on her for lying and deceiving her readers.
Besides the obvious hypocrisy the issue is that when men escape from abusive, sociopathic women and then buy this book they're traumatized by feminist "men can do no right; women can do no wrong" dogma. The author, given her background, knows this; she just isn't willing to lose sales to prevent it. Maybe she'll insert herself as a case study into the next edition.
The reason I didn't give this book one star is a lot of the information is really good. Had it presented in a gender-neutral way -- as the title strongly implies it is -- this would have been a solid five-star book.
Very helpful.......2007-03-11
Who ever knew there were so many different types of liars? Anyone who has faced betrayal by someone they love will find this book helpful in explaining why they do what they do.
Love ONLY grows in the fertile soil of trust!.......2007-02-19
This is a relatively short, but extremely useful and informative read. It is written primarily for women, but it certainly can apply to men as well. It's too bad it didn't cover both sides because men are often on the receiving end of betrayal as well. This is part of my rationale for a 4 star rating. However, it is an excellent book overall and certainly still a worthwhile read for a man who is being lied to.
The book covers a lot of ground and does it well. It looks at the dynamics that motivate a person to lie, the various defense mechanisms that come up and it includes enough case histories to make the book interesting, but not cumbersome.
Most importantly, the book provides positive self talk, techniques for reframing events, getting grounded and using confrontation effectively. It also has some simple techniques borrowed from cognitive therapy that can be very empowering and help you regain balance and control.
Loving a liar is bad news.......2007-01-12
Whether the liar you love is just "mixed up", or true pathological liar, narcissist, relentlessly passive aggressive... this book is a must read and at the top of my list. Do realize that many of these people cannot be fixed and the prognosis might not be good even if they do get help- many people can be ONLY if they want- and you can love and live with them BUT pay attention to the differences and do NOT, I repeat, do NOT get mixed up with those whose signs are in big neon letters- BAD NEWS, much easier not to get involved than to try to untangle later. How much of YOU are you willing to give up to allow these people their all too often - sick games?Good luck, there is just SO much underlying this chronic behavior, imo, and life is short.

Customer Reviews:
It Speaks to Me........2007-08-16
This book was not easy to read.
However. Over and over again it phrased things in the perfect way. I can only read it a few pages at a time. I'm only halfway through, and I'm still inching along. When I'm ready to see, ready to learn, ready to be moved, I read this book.
It's wonderful accompanyment to "Courage to Heal" it takes a much more straightforward approach, and is more heartbreaking to read.
What I like about it is that there is a LOT of work that a single person can do in there. It's not dependent on being in a romantic relationship.
Exc ellent Practical Guide.......2007-08-13
This book is a very practical easy to read step by step process to help recover from abuse. My partner is currently reading it and I have read "Allies in Healing" which is a great supplement for this book if you're in a relationship trying to cope with this type of recovery. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to acknowledge the problem and improve their relationship.
Knowing your not alone.......2007-01-19
This book helps any survivor realize that they are not alone in this healing journey. There are plenty of actual accounts of survivors and their stories. Along with lists that help connect the dots with our current behaviors and the past. Eye opening and soul serching this book is a life saver.
Great resource.......2006-03-23
I felt that this book effectively serves two purposes. First, it is an outstanding resource for survivors of sexual abuse and their partners to feel that they are not alone in their struggles and experiences. Second, as a clinician, this book gave me great insight to the experience of a sexual abuse survivor and gave me direction to use with clients who are survivors. After I finished reading it I loaned it to a client right away. Her response to reading it was as positive as mine.
Very Good and hard to find material.......2002-07-28
It's hard to find actual exercises for you and your partner like in this book. They work even if you figured out a few on your own, it's nice to know why they work so well. It's also good to hear the male side, I wasn't really sure how many men had been abused before, now I know. It's too bad more of us don't talk about it in the open we talk about everything else!
I did not like the exercise about remembering your sexual identity before the abuse started, for some of us that was when we were just out of diapers. I can't even remember much before age nine let alone what sexual identity I had if any. It's better to work with what you are now. I would have liked more stories with the man and the woman, I guess I can find more in other books but this book is very unusual and a "must read".

Breaking Free: Understanding Sexual Addiction & the Healing Power of Jesus.......2007-08-28
Great Book!!!
I Would recommend it to anyone who deals with sexual addiction!
Read it with your spouse and get more out of it and revitalize your marriage.
If u want to overcome sexual addiction this is the book!
I've read it 3x's,its an awesome book!!
Inside out.......2007-06-30
There are a lot of other books out there chopping down the weeds but Willingham gets a shovel and digs out the roots. This book nails it!
Excellent Christian book on Sex Addiction.......2007-02-18
The reason I liked this book so much is that the author,Russell Willingham, writes with grace and truth. He also comes from the unique perspective of healing through the power of Jesus Christ. Readers who struggle with sex addiction will be truly blessed with this book.
Help for the hurting.......2007-01-10
One of the best books on sexual addiction. It gets to the root of why a sex addict does what he does. It is written from a true Christian perspective and is a great way for the church to introduce sexual recovery to the body.
Since many churches do not believe that sexual addiction is a true addiction, i.e. just another sin or bad habit, having a Christian author point out this falicy is very helpful. Many Chrsitians will not read secular authors like Patrick Carnes so this book will help a huge demographic that is currently living in total denial.
A good book to hand that brother in church who likes to give the sisters "hugs" every Sunday morning. Or one to give to your husband who has a problem with internet porn.
Practical, comprehensive help... builds acceptance of discipline, grace and truth........2006-03-13
I have talked to many who have attempted to recover from destructive sexual habits; their underlying problem is often quite complex. For the person who is starting to desire freedom, there is usually confusion and a lack of awareness of what is happening inside one's heart and mind to bring about this kind of chronic behavior.
Russell Willingham's text is uniquely effective in uncovering what is at the core of this struggle: a lack of nurturing and understanding. The text is very readable; the author has a knack for making his points in compelling, understandable ways. Through clearly-presented principles, real-life examples and carefully applied scripture passages, Willingham shows the path to healing, growth and recovery. Deftly balancing the powerful gift of Divine grace with the necessity of personal responsibility and discipline, Willingham delivers both the concrete assurance and practical tools that are required by those who desire to be free from sexual impurity.
Highly recommended!

Book Description
When Survivors Give Birth is written for a mixed audience of maternity care professionals and para-professionals, mental health therapists and counselors, and women survivors and their families. The authors expertly and compassionately address the unusual and distressing challenges that arise for abuse survivors during the childbirth experience.
The first section informs the reader of the impact of early sexual abuse on children, adults, and on all aspects of childbearing. The second section teaches skills in communication, self-help skills, counseling and psychotherapy techniques. The third covers clinical challenges and solutions for doctors, nurses, midwives, doulas, and others. Case histories throughout the book clarify and apply the content.
Customer Reviews:
Helpful in understanding 'difficult' behaviour.......2007-03-30
As health care professionals, we all encounter clients with a greater need to 'control' their experience, especially surrounding childbirth. Many caregivers find this situation difficult and wish that relationships could be more productive and less confrontational. Understanding why some women make more demands than others can help us to 'read' their needs in a more compassionate way -- as sometimes it is a healthy response to a history of abuse (acknowledged or hidden). We then stand a better chance of working with all women in ways that promote healing. I found this book very helpful.
Groundbreaking work, invaluable resource.......2006-04-07
An excellent resource for any women who has survived abuse and anyone who cares for women. The second section is invaluable to those who have a hard time communicating with or feel misunderstood by their providers. Recommended whether you are pregnant or not.
Great Insight/Tool.......2005-07-19
I found this book to be a great tool to add to my base of knowledge. As a CBE,Doula I come across women that have had previous abuse issues. This book gives you the awareness to handle (not treat) these issues in a sensitive way. It has different sections for Midwives,Doulas,CBE'S, ETC. I found it worth adding to the reference library.

Must Read for Men helping their partners with Childhood Sexual Abuse.......2007-08-05
This is an absolute must read for any men out there who have women partners that have suffered childhood sexual abuse in any of its many and abhorrent forms. My wife suffered this from no less than three different males in her life before the age of 14, and two of them were relatives. I, like you, needed some reference material to try and help me cope with how to help her, and though there isn't going to be a cookie cutter answer for every situation... this book offers a lot of insight and gives you some starting points to begin looking for help.
Thanks.
Lynn

All Couples Should Read.......2007-02-14
This is a great book that made me cry when I read it because it was like he knew me in a way none of my boyfriends have ever understood me. I sent it to my boyfriend to read immediately after I finished it. If only I had found this book years ago.
Good book about this topic. .......2006-08-16
This is a pretty good book, well written and easy to understand. Basically it's support guide for men who are in a relationship with a partner who is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse.
The book isn't very long. There aren't many books written from this angle so its worth getting and reading, you could always donate it to a public library later on to benefit others.

Book Description
For the first time, acclaimed and international best-selling author Deepak Chopra explores the universal themes of spirituality and sexuality and their role in connecting lovers emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The text includes The Seven Spiritual Laws of Love, Deepaks intensive meditation and affirmation of simple, practical applications that partners can bring to their relationship to enhance and entice their intimacy. The book is also fully illustrated by a group of Indian artists hand selected by Chopra. The original Kama Sutra was written by the courtesan and poet Vasyayana, believed to have lived sometime between the 1st to 6th centuries A.D. and includes guidance on how to be a good citizen, insights into relationships between lovers, the four main pursuits of life, as well as providing insight into the sexual mores and practices of India in ancient times. Deepak Chopras loyalty to the original Kama Sutra and ability to find its sacredness will make his version a modern classic.

This is the worst book Deepak Chopra has ever written. I don't even think that this book is written by Deepak.
Finally, an Indian Kama Sutra!.......2006-09-08
There are some Indians who look down on authors who choose to retell classical works of Indian literature--in particular, works seen as 'Hindu' in content. Perhaps it's a colonial hangover--the old 'British knew best' attitude that continues to plague the English-speaking urban elite even today. But speaking for the growing number of people like myself who hunger to rediscover the richness of our heritage and past, I can honestly say that our interest in the classics has nothing to do with things like Hindutva, Ram Mandir, and all that political claptrap! Just as one respects and loves one's mother and finds 'her story' fascinating--because her story is also our story--so one delves into 'history' as well.
Take Vatsayana's Kama Sutra for instance.
For over a century, our knowledge of our own classical literature has come mainly from translations and interpretations by British or European authors. From the 19th century translation by Sir Richard F. Burton down to the latest glossy coffee table book with glossy pictures of blonde couples contorting in uncomfortable postures, our experience of this classic work has come to us almost entirely from the west. And sad to say, that interpretation is almost always a biased one, no matter how cleverly repackaged and reinvented it may be, replete with subtle racial bias and overt Catholic guilt.
So it's with an element of hopefulness that one looks at this new edition, with original illustrations instead of the usual embarrassing pictures, and text by the one-man-new-age industry, Deepak Chopra.
And Chopra actually delivers. He brings an instinctive Indian understanding of the work that is missing from those endless versions by Western authors. His tone captures the eccentricities of Vatsayana's mischevious style perfectly, conveying that sense of wicked leela that permeates this evergreen classic. Unlike those ubiquitous foreign editions, there's no attempt here to market the KS as a pornographic sex manual. In fact, the sexual positions--most of which are impossibly gymnastic--are the least interesting part of the Kama Sutra. It's the insights into human relationships that made this a seminal work of our culture. When Chopra translates the passage about a husband dreaming of the celestial cow Kamdhenu with his estranged wife's face, and of the subsequent reunion of the couple, it's an unmistakably Indian moment: Which western male would consider viewing his spouse's face superimposed upon cattle as a spiritual revelation? Chopra uses simple, deftly chosen words and phrases, to convey the essential quirkiness of this moment, as well as the eroticism of the subsequent reunion.
This is all done at the Post-it note level of writing prose, mind you. Everything is reduced to byte-sized fragments, quotable quotes and pithy epithets. You could produce a couple of hundred greeting cards from this book--or a few dozen evocative love letters! But it's done with great sensitivity, skill and a holistic sense that balances the spiritual messages alongwith the erotic mischief.
In place of the typical blow-up pics, the book is illustrated with an excellent selection of stylishly provocative paintings. The style is modern and perfectly suited to the text. Refreshingly, there's no attempt to illustrate every single position. Instead, the paintings are tastefully erotic, subtly sensual. There is both male and female nudity in plenty--this is the Kama Sutra after all!--but it's gracefully displayed, with R-rated suggestiveness rather than X-rated explicitness.
Most of all, there's the sheer delight of seeing Indian bodies, Indian complexions, faces, features, details, that no western edition can ever match. Both illustrations and style capture the essential Indian spirit of this evergreen masterpiece with an economy and elegance that makes the book well worth possessing for any young couple.
To put it in sms-speak: The DC KS rocks.
Fresh New Version of the Classic.......2006-08-09
With this latest book the well-loved and popular mind-body guru Deepak Chopra lends his take on the spiritual messages of this ancient text to craft a modern interpretation of the Kama Sutra; one very well suited to the Western mind.
Fans of the Chopra distillation method (conversion of any universal truth to seven behavioral steps) will embrace his latest effort with rapturous glee. This would be an excellent gift for a couple, a lover, or anyone interested in a consideration of the meaning and import of sexuality and spiritual evolution.
It's beautifully written in a conversational style that invites exploration and reflection, yet preserves the overall sacredness of the content. As well, it's stunningly illustrated with new artwork by - ironic in this case - the Virgin Illustration Studios along with a number of individual artists including Gotham Chopra. At first I rather missed the classical illustrations with their occasionally improbable postures and attitudes, but this faded as I warmed to the beauty of the recently commissioned modern art.
The text is divided into three sections, and links the concepts of spirituality and sexuality through discussions of pleasure and how this relates to shame, life goals, passion, and other emotions and concepts. None of the archaic prejudices are removed, yet the reader is gently reminded that while the modern mind may differ, we should look for the underlying lesson in these texts, and observe how we have evolved and how much further we have to go as a sentient species. As the author writes: " any given paragraph can be wise, cynical, ribald, witty, fantastic, irreverent, manipulative, and clinical by turns". And yes, gentle reader, there are the classic descriptions of the positions for intercourse.
But it's not all serious. Some of the pages are humorous in modern context, such as the page defining "Easy Women", which includes listings such as "an actor's wife" and "older women". This section and those similar in attitude ( "Advice for Seducers") should have book clubs cackling with fresh discussion.
Buy it. Revel in it. Play with it. Learn from it.
Spectacular artwork and helpful commentary by author.......2006-06-28
Even though most of us would be uncomfortable leaving a book which so boldly celebrates our sexuality out in the open, this book is so beautifully done that you might be tempted to leave it on the coffee table. The artwork is spectacular. At first I was so struck by the beauty and sensuality of the artwork I didn't do much reading, just paging through enjoying the images - even images of lovemaking which would normally shock or embarrass me seemed beautiful and natural. Okay, some still seemed shocking, but in the back of my mind lurks the possibility that within the context of a loving relationship there is purity and godliness within those erotic acts and images. Could that be true?
I imagine it is so, but like many of us I still have my share of discomfort and shame surrounding sexual desire and its expression. And I think that this book may be helpful to me in that regard. In fact in the first chapter, Deepak Chopra says that the Kama Sutra can be read as "an antidote to shame" and I think he may be correct. The Kama Sutra combined with Deepak's introduction and his perspective on uniting sex and love make a strong case that sex is not meant to be a source of shame but instead can be a pathway to more fully realizing the Divine.
I highly recommend this book.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND - MOST EFFECTIVE.......2007-08-09
OF ALL THE BOOKS ON SEXUAL ASSAULT THAT I HAVE PURCHASED AND READ, I FOUND THIS BOOK TO BE THE MOST EFFECTIVE. I HAVE NEVER CRIED SO MUCH IN MY LIFE. LETTING GO OF ALL THE EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS THAT I HAD KEPT INSIDE FOR SO LONG WAS SUCH A RELIEF. THIS BOOK REALLY TAUGHT ME ABOUT HOW THAT EXPERIENCE HAD TRULY AFFECTED MY LIFE. IT ALSO TAUGHT ME HOW TO BECOME A BETTER PERSON. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE GOING THROUGH THE RECOVERY PROCESS.
The Right to Innocence: Healing the Trauma of Childhood Sexual Abuse: A therapeutic 7-Step-Help Program for Men and Women, Inclu.......2006-04-22
This is the first book, and after reading many, still the best book I've read about incest and childhood sexual abuse. I am a survivor of both. The name jumped right off the cover and grabed me; the truth of the title hit me right between the eyes. The pages of the treatise itself do not disappoint, it is filled with words that resonate in the hearts and minds of those of us who have been sexually abused. We all are endowed with a RIGHT TO INNOCENCE! How it is stolen from us and the horror stories that abound in the aftermath are compiled in this "wonderful" book that explains so much for those of us who have been "keeping the secret" (for me, over 50 years!!) I read it in the beginning of my therapy. I still refer to it and have given several copies away. I highly recommend this book for those who have treated themselves so badly for years, because they have come to believe that they must have been to blame for what someone else did TO them. There will be so many things about yourself and painful problems that you have been enduring for years, that you will now understand are "part and parcel" of the incest/child abuse survivors experience. You will find youself saying, "oh yes, of my God, that's me". That the only thing "wrong" with you is that you have been trying to deny and bury the horror and the problems and the pain for TOO LONG! I remembered every detail of my incest/abuse, and the aftermath of it's effects have lasted a lifetime. I did not seek help or talk to a single soul about it until I was 55 years old!! The problems that it caused me are mirade, probably preventable, if only I had saught help sooner. Please know you will be glad that you ordered this book.

Wonderful! Great Healing Book!.......2005-08-04
I had be a victim of child molestation for many years. I was victimized by 14 different abusers including family memebers. I was so depressed most of my life. Full of Rage, is was the therapist told me. After reading this book my life began again. When I seen Beverly Engle on The Opera Show I was so happy to see her sharing her book. I followed this book & told my story to my Pastors. What a wonderful life I now have. No longer drepessed & released from anger. The Pyscholgist said he couldn't recommend this book. Well then he doens't understand what a victim is going through. I was a victim from age 6yrs to 13yrs. and carried this burden with me till I was 35yrs. old. Don't wait read it now! God bless you beverly because I'm a whole person today.
Great overview...good starter book that offers hope for recovery.......2005-07-02
It's clear that Dr. Engel knows what she is talking about here. The exercises and visualization techniques are excellent. Her seven-step program will aid in healing.

best self-help book i've ever read.......2005-01-29
How do I even start? I honestly don't know what i would've done without this book. This book, along with professional counseling helped me recover from depression and anxiety attacks. To be brief, I had been sexually abused by 2 family members: an older male cousin and my father. This book helped me to finally realize that it was never my fault, and I know that now. It's been about 10 years since I've stopped counseling, but I still have this book, and every once in a while when I start to have those feelings of guilt surfacing, I grab this book and start reading. Recovering from childhood sexual abuse, I believe, is a lifelong process, and I'm sure we need all the help we can get. I recommend this book to anyone who has been sexually abused, and also to anyone who knows of someone who has been sexually abused. Maybe they can be a great help and support to them.
