While most Christians agree to seek purity and save sex for marriage, few have been given a blueprint for how that should affect their view of dating and love. In I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Joshua Harris exposes the "Seven Habits of Highly Defective Dating" and offers a realistic outline of how to have a biblical vision of marriage. Harris contends that one must begin with a new attitude, viewing love, purity, and singleness from God's perspective rather than thinking that love and romance are to be enjoyed "solely for recreation." In such well-named chapters as "Guarding Your Heart" and "What Matters at Fifty," Harris encourages the reader to look at one's character rather than reveling in infatuation, to regard love as a truly selfless, biblical act rather than a feeling. He refutes the concept that we are victims of "falling in love" (that it is beyond our control), saying that "God wants us to seek guidance from scriptural truth, not feeling. Smart love looks beyond personal desires and the gratification of the moment. It looks at the big picture: serving others and glorifying God." Before you roll your eyes, moaning that this sounds terribly unromantic, know that Harris does a superb job of couching his convictions in the sincere belief that if we are purposeful in our singleness and date with integrity, a fulfilled marriage awaits us--in God's timing. --Jill Heatherly

5 out of 5 stars It's Good to Be Challenged to Think!.......2007-09-01

I found this book to be extreemly helpful and I think Josh does a great job at sharing his heart and helping people see the other side. I realize that there are many people out there who are very upset with this book and think the author is way out of line, but I also realize that people don't often like to hear things that are different from the mainstring of things. We don't like to be different and thought of as wierd.

I respect Josh and his honest approach on the subject of dating. I personally know many people who have been helped after reading this book. Some people think that Josh comes across in a harsh manner and is against dating. I didn't feel that at all after I read it. In fact, I have many close friends who have listened to Josh's advice and have gotten married. Probably in some people's mind they were extreem in how they dated, but they have been saved from alot of heartache. As I look at their marriages, I see them all still very much in love! They didn't do everything exactly like Josh did, but they found his advice very helpful. No book is perfect except God's Word, but we can learn from others. Whenever we read a book we need to read it with discretion.

Josh is very much for marriage and for dating God's way. He encourages people to get more serious about purity and thinking of the other person's best interest. Dating and getting involved physically is selfish love and not at all the way God has it planned. I was definately challenged in how I think.

I would encourage anyone to read this book. It is very well written, easy to read, and yet very profound. If you read it with the attitude you won't like it, I'm sure you probably won't. Just be open to God's voice and hear His message to you. Many of the principles Josh lays out are from God's Word. He has alot of valuable things to say, and I think if we are willing to listen we will learn alot. If you're a Chistian, ask God for wisdom as you read it! God loves to be involved in our lives, especially our love lives.

Joshua Harris's book is very well put together and has a great message. Each chapter is nicely outlined and easy to read. He confronts a lot of stereotypes about dating and provides great advice. A must read!

This is an excellent book for anyone who is interested in a serious relationship. It gives great advice and a way to honor God in all that you do and say. I would encourage all to read this book to get your dating life in order.

1 out of 5 stars Not working. .......2007-06-26

This book has haunted me as many other christian singles in their 20's. I personally think this book has contributed to the de-testical-ification of guys in the church. I know a ton of attractive women (they seem to outnumber the single men greatly) who are not happy about their singleness in the church only to be faced with 30 year old adolecents who are afraid or unwilling to ask them out. Thanks Josh! Well anyway, I am getting married in 10 days and I met my soon-to-be husband on a christian dating website so bollocks to Mr. Harris.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book ! Highly recommended........2007-05-26

If you are a Christian in America you need to read this book. It is absolutley great. Puts the whole idea of dating, romance, finding a mate through the lense of Scripture. You will be blessed by this refreshing book. After you read it you will be telling your friends about it and loaning it out!

3 out of 5 stars A critical piece, but not the only piece of the puzzle........2007-08-27

I was given this book by another parent whose son has autism, and my son has a preliminary diagnosis of PDD-NOS. While I do agree that an important part of the missing piece for specturm children has to do with their inability to read and respond to the emotional and social cues of their peers, I have my doubts as to whether or not that certain "piece" is the most critical and primary component of autism that needs to be adressed first and primarily in order to begin the process of recovery. Frankly, I am dubious of any therapy that requires parents to spend $3,000 on a four day seminar before they can purchase more therapy, which will likely have to be paid for out of pocket. I find that the RDI's official websites use of guilt and fear in goading parents out of their precious resources is not only irresponsible, but generally reprehensable as well. When I hear something like recovery, or hope for you child's fullest potential, initially comes with a three-thousand dollar cash outlay plus the cost of travel and hotel accomodations, so that someone can tell me over the course of four days, that my son has a deficit when it comes to socialization, I immediately become suspicious. Buyer's beware I say: when therapists have our children's best interest at heart, they never use guilt or fear to get parents into their offices so that treatment and help can begin to lighten the already heavy load of caring for a child with autisim spectrum disorders.

3 out of 5 stars Do the program, ignore the propaganda.......2006-09-18

If you're a parent looking into treatment options, then I most definitely recommend this book as a part of your treatment program. It's one of the few 'step by step' approaches to teaching social skills out there, and it seems to make sense.

Unfortunately RDI falls into the "Just use us, we want to be the only game in town!" mentality that so many treatment approaches do. If you explore RDI further (i.e., decide to do a conference or consultation after reading this book), you may be told that:

- Your ABA program is making your child "more autistic", even though they appear to be getting better this is only a short term illusion, underneath it all they are getting more autistic. (Despite research that indicates the exact opposite).

- Language fundamentals (i.e., asking questions, following directions, speaking in sentences using correct grammar, using description) are not a core defecit of autism (despite the fact that the DSM-V lists language delay as a diagnostic criteria for autism) and so they are not targeted.

- The child's age when they begin treatment isn't important, the birth to five time frame for early intervention is arbitrary (again, despite huge research to the contrary - children certainly make progress later in life but a correlation with stronger progress with earlier intervention has certainly been established).

- You do not need to work on teaching your child language skills (i.e., vocabulary, pronouns, categories, concept words, sentence/narrative formation), they will just 'get' all of this if they do RDI, even though RDI doesn't specifically target these skills.

This is some of the information that was presented when I went to an RDI conference and checked out their website, from Dr. Gutstein himself. So I recommend this program to parents with a warning - keep your common sense. Do not fire your speech therapist or your verbal behavior consultant if you're happy with these programs and you think they are working. I like RDI, I think it's a great program and worth doing, but some of the information they are passing along to parents as 'fact' seem more like their own theories that do not appear to be consistently supported by research.

4 out of 5 stars A nice component, might not be a comprehensive treatment approach.......2006-08-28

For those of you who like to skim, my 'nutshell' review of RDI: It's a great program for social skills and joint attention. It's not a complete program for an autistic child. Now for the wordy version...

The negatives of RDI are, in my opinion, not within the program itself but in what this program claims to do. RDI wants to be a core treatment approach for remediating autism, when it doesn't appear to be nearly comprehensive enough to accomplish this. If you take a look at the most common autism remediation approaches (currently, these are mostly ABA based) you'll see that they contain instruction for language, fine and gross motor skills, self help skills, reading, visual processing...the list goes on. RDI ONLY targets what it considers to be the 'core' deficits in autism, largely things such as relatedness to others, ability to cope with and pay attention to new stimuli, and the ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment. This is good stuff, but the program seems to operate on the premise that the other skills will just fall into place if you target the 'core' skills, or that if the child has other issues (i.e., receptive language or reading delays) that these are not 'really' autism, they are a co-existing condition that the child has in ADDITION to the autism and I guess you find another program to target them. A good example to highlight this is language...RDI says that since 85% of autistic children develop language on their own, this is not a true core deficit in autism. Personally, I could not disagree more. True, some language may develop, but that does not mean it matures to a level commensurate with the child's intelligence. Difficulties with 'concept' words, complex sentence structure, narrative formation, verbal reasoning and auditory processing remain present in many autistic children. The fact that not 100% of them have this issue doesn't mean it should be discounted - not 100% of people with OCD have compulsions with their obsessions, but this doesn't mean compulsions aren't central to the disorder.

RDI also presents rather alarming information on its website and at seminars about the supposedly dismal fate of autistic children who 'only' achieve a high IQ and normal school placement (reading between the lines here, this is a criticism of ABA, which often uses these as evidence of its success), saying that only 3% of children with normal IQ and school placement will live independently according to some surveys. The problem is we're comparing apples to oranges here - the children from the actual ABA studies aren't being looked at (and it's my understanding that the follow-up studies from the original Lovaas study were very positive), rather, we're assuming that those children are commensurate with other autistic children with a normal IQ, who may never have received treatment at all.

After that little rant, let me say that I actually do like RDI a great deal, as a COMPONENT of a treatment program. There are some things that cannot be taught in drill form, and conversation, reciprocity, and social language are among them. You can sit a child down at a table and teach them adjectives. You cannot sit a child down at a table and teach them how to share their joy and opinions, how to make observations about the world around them, how to want to interact (and I mean truley interact for interactions sake, not play along so long as the activity is somehow inherently rewarding to them). RDI centers everything around interactive social activities that are, for me at least, the 'missing piece' in many behavioral programs. Another very, very important component of RDI is the development of joint attention, which some research suggests is one of the most important factors in a child's prognosis and yet is extremely difficult to work on in a practical way. RDI does a wonderful job of working on this and I think this alone probably makes a huge difference for many kids.

My bottom line: I would use this for a child I thought had advanced beyond ABA, or as a part of another, more comprehensive (not necessarily ABA, but a teaching-based) program for a child who still had language, academic, or motor needs.

4 out of 5 stars Great method, BUT...........2006-07-10

RDI is a self-proclaimed deficit-based approach, meaning it attempts to remedy the core difficulties in disorders such as autism. Many methods such as ABA, on the other hand, are based around teaching specific skills. For example, an ABA program might involve sitting a child down and teaching them 10 new vocabulary words, whereas an RDI program might focus on teaching children to attend to their parents speech and actions so that new vocabulary is learned naturally (yes, that is a much simplified explanation, but a general overview for anyone unfamiliar).

All of this is great, backed by a growing body of research, and seems highly practical and useful, BUT, there is one word of caution I'd like to throw in here. Consider this analogy...what if this book were about working with children born with physical disorders such as cerebral palsy? A method to treat the root causes of CP would be great, true. But without advanced medical technology, how likely would it be that a therapy method alone would cure all children with this disorder, leave them entirely able to walk, talk, and move with no trouble? How practical would it be, then, to rely entirely on a method that goes at the root cause WITHOUT looking into alternative methods and adaptive equipment to help kids with CP eat, dress themselves, move around, and communicate, in the event that therapy alone did not cure them and take care of all of these issues?

This is what I wonder about RDI vs. ABA and Floortime (which has recently added an intensive language-teaching curriculum based around specific language skills). Suppose that not all children are 100% remediated (which even the most enthusiastic proponents would probably agree is unrealistic), and that they do not all learn to pick up information through the usual channels? At this point, isn't some specialized teaching needed for specific skills? Unfortunately RDI has recently dissociated itself from ABA but I think these two approaches represent two ends of a spectrum...the degree to which you think you can change a child and eliminate their deficits vs. the degree to which you adapt your teaching to their special needs. For most children, there will need to be a balance between these two approaches.

Another thing I wondered about while reading the book was whether or not remediating social deficits would necessarily result in increased sociability. I'm not saying it will or will not, but am quite curious. I am not on the autistic spectrum and have the full range of social skills expected of a 'neurotypical' person as described in this book, and yet I'm still a very solitary creature. It's not a matter of not understanding how to socialize, but a matter of inherent motivation. I wonder, can this be created in people by teaching them HOW to socialize, or is it like me and golf...I know how to play it, sure, but that doesn't mean I care to.

Overall, I like this method and I'm excited to see this fresh wave of thought in the field of autism treatment. I just wish that all of the various therapy programs out there would start to play nicely and realize that none of them have all the answers, as it seems the best approach is an eclectic one.

4 out of 5 stars One more piece of a puzzle.......2006-07-09

RDI is a relatively new approach in the rapidly growing world of autism treatment. Like all approaches, I felt (based on this book) that it has it's pros and cons. Unfortunately I have yet to find The Treatment Approach for autism, it seems as if all of the various approaches out there offer one viewpoint, one piece of the pie.

The positive thing about RDI, in my opinion, is that it fills in some oft-neglected portions of autism treatment. RDI is based heavily on treating the underlying deficits in autism as opposed to teaching 'discrete skills', an area that seems to be overlooked in many approaches. More abstract skills such as social referencing, experience sharing and emotional co-regulation are taught in RDI. Many of the autistic children that I've worked with have made great strides in language and academics, and yet find it difficult to maintain a brief reciprocal interaction due to problems with these types of skills. I've heard many people describe RDI as the 'missing piece' of their therapy program for this reason.

As far as the cons, I was a bit disappointed that RDI does not seem to advocate using the child's natural interests as a foundation for building rapport, especially in the early stages where I would say it's most needed. Both Floortime and Verbal Behavior advocate building early interactions around the child's natural interests, wheras RDI appears to encourage use of a specific set of relationship building activities from the RDI program. When trying to remediate deficits in autism you walk a fine line...on one hand you are attempting to change something about the child, on the other you want to encourage their unique strengths and their individualism. I would have liked to have seen more of a blend, with the child's natural interests being worked into relationship building activities. Why can't a child who likes to tap objects, for example, learn to play a drum with their caregiver?

RDI also focuses on underlying deficits as opposed to discrete skills, which I would label both a pro and a con. Again, there is a fine line here...on the one hand, you want to remediate underlying deficits as much as possible, on the other, it is unlikely that you will correct these things 100% of the time in 100% of kids, so it's likely that some alternative teaching methods will need to be used. Behaviorally based methods use highly structured teaching, isolation of skills, and repetition to teach specific things such as core vocabulary, letter recognition, appropriate behavior, etc. RDI attempts to remediate the underlying difficulties in autism in what I assume is the hope that children won't require this kind of specialized teaching at all. It does not include a way to teach specific skills such as receptive vocabulary, reading, etc. So, again, great if it works, but parents may need another method if some learning deficits remain and specialized teaching is in fact neeeded for kids to pick up certain concepts.

My overall opinion...RDI seems like a great approach that covers one very important portion of autism treatment, but not all of it. For most autistic children, I would recommend using it WITH another, more academically based program focused on teaching more specific skills such as reading, various language skills, etc. Both are important. It may, however, be appropriate to use RDI only with a child who is fairly age appropriate in their language and academics but lacks social skills and awareness.

    Book Description

    From the Pulitzer Prize–winning New York Times columnist and bestselling author of From Beirut to Jerusalem and The Lexus and the Olive Tree comes this smart, penetrating, brilliantly informed book that is indispensable for understanding today’s radically new world and America’s complex place in it.

    Thomas L. Freidman received his third Pulitzer Prize in 2002 “for his clarity of vision, based on extensive reporting, in commenting on the worldwide impact of the terrorist threat.” In Longitudes and Attitudes he gives us all of the columns he has published about the most momentous news story of our time, as well as a diary of his private experiences and reflections during his post–September 11 travels. Updated for this new paperback edition, with over two years’ worth of Friedman’s columns and an expanded version of his diary, Longitudes and Attitudes is a broadly influential work from our most trusted observer of the international scene.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-05-07

    Perfect book for those that want to learn about the issues going on in the Middle East. Easy to understand for those not that familiar with current world issues. Very informative and I would highly recommend.

    5 out of 5 stars An insightful look at a new world..........2007-01-29

    In Longitudes and Attitudes, Friedman pulls writings from his column at the New York Times that describes his position on what he calls, "the super-story." There are two important components to this book that will stick with me: the first is his belief that globalization has paved the way for an individual to influence the masses, and the second is that even in "friendly" nations, there are fundamental, cultural and religious differences that influence a negative perception of the United States... and we need to pay attention to this.

    Friedman substantiates his insightful conjectures by traveling the world and tapping into each individual society. He asks tough questions and receives harsh ridicule. This type of substantive journalism is what makes his writing so multi-dimensional... It's not merely his opinion, but the opinions of citizens around the world... and they offer a clear understanding.

    There is a pile of information to absorb, so take your time with it (I read about ten to fifteen pages at a time). You'll get some history, you'll get some opinions, and most importantly, you might get a new perspective.

    Have fun,

    4 out of 5 stars Interesting Insight.......2006-09-08

    I was not familiar with Thomas Friedman's New York Times columns. This book contains a sampling of his columns. The book mainly portrays the difference in the Arab vs. the culture of the West. The book opens with the shock of the events of 9/11, considered a tragedy by the West and a cause for celebration for many places in the Arab and Muslim world.
    The author goes onto explain the Arab world's rage against America is the result of the idea that America represents, globalization , modernity, plurality. Muslim populations in the middle east are generally ruled by oppressive regimes that are failing their populace, providing a limited world vision, while censoring information. The author made an interesting observation, India has the second largest Muslim population of any country in the world, but the Muslim rage in not present, as the author notes, chanting "death to America" is not the favored occupation of its populace. The reason, India is a democracy, the people are concerned with bettering themselves through government.
    And so it goes, The author's main point is that when the Middle East can be democratized, and the poverty alleviated it will be ready to join the modern world.
    I really believe Tom Freidman is right on target with the ideas within this book.

    5 out of 5 stars An important book.......2006-08-04

    Friedman's writing is consistently thoughtful, and this book is no exception. I appreciate deeply the care with which this book has been prepared. It belongs in every thinking person's library.

    4 out of 5 stars Thomas L. Friedman was born a ramblin' man.......2006-08-01

    Thomas Friedman's "Longitudes and Attitudes" is a very readable book based on a collection of columns he wrote for the New York Times just before the attacks of 9/11 and for the year following those attacks. The last quarter of the book contains a kind of diary in which he attempts to put into context where he was in the world when he wrote these columns and how he was personally feeling at the time.

    It is a very personal collection, often invoking the image of his children's future. Friedman's primary mission, as he relates it in meetings with educated people across the Middle East, is his search for the rationale of the terrorists, why they killed, and how they were radicalized. He frequently relates how depressed he got when talking to educated Middle Easterners who unflinchingly believed in conspiracy theories of the highest order. The most common canard he constantly ran across was that four thousand Jews were notified on the morning of 9/11 not to go to the World Trade Towers. Another astonishing "fact" he constantly confronted from academics, clerics and the media in the Middle East was that there is no proof that Muslims were the 9/11 hijackers in the first place. In general, Friedman relates, most Muslims in the Middle East also believe that the attack was a plot by the CIA (or Jews) to discredit Muslims and that all the American media is run by Jews.

    Throughout the book, Friedman does not shy away from the fact that he is Jewish. He is balanced and critical of both sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - decrying the brutality of the Israelis and Palestinians and he especially singles out the stubbornness of Arafat in that Arab leader's failure to accept the Clinton peace plan, which would have given Palestinians a state encompassing 95% of what they asked for and could have stanched the bloodshed.

    Friedman relates his amazement that the Middle East is bombarded by an incessant 24-hour-a-day attack in the Arab media upon Israel and the United States, particularly via TV programs that run through the night simply playing martial music and showing images of Israeli brutality against Palestinians - which is always portrayed as one-sided.

    He is unabashedly and constantly critical of the Saudi Arabia regime, from which, we are frequently reminded, was home to 15 of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers. Friedman seems particularly upset that Saudi Arabia did not apologize for the involvement of its nationals in the attack against the US and has refused to cooperate with the FBI in their investigation. He also makes it abundantly clear that Saudi Arabia, along with Iran, seem to be in a race to provide money to Islamic madras's across the globe that teach virulent intolerance and hatred against America and Israel.

    Friedman doesn't simpy rail against the world as he sees it, he does prescribe some remedies for what he refers to as an ongoing "Clash of Civilizations," a term he borrows from Samuel Huntington. If we don't address the tumult we find ourselves in and Usama bin Laden "wins," Friedman warns us that, "The war of civilizations will be coming to a theater near to you."

    First and foremost, he calls upon Arab nations to forge a new future for their citizens by letting go of the past and looking to the future. Too often Arab nations and leaders deflect true change by blaming all their troubles on someone else... their problems are America's fault, or Bush's fault, or Israel's fault and so on ad infinitum. True leaders in the Middle East should create plans for the future, not just laying blame for present and past real and perceived slights. Arab leaders should come up with plans for educating their children, making governments more responsive and creating jobs for the exploding number of young people in the Middle East. Friedman goads Arab leaders by saying things such as, while other emerging nations "make microchips, you are making potato chips," and that the GDP of Spain is greater than that of all 22 Arab states combined.

    Friedman could be called a liberal hawk. He firmly believes in globalization, with a caveat that the Internet can be "an open sewer." He also believes that the concept of engaging and talking with your enemy is the only way that problems can truly be resolved. An example: The U.S. and Israel engaged Arafat and came up with a plan that gave the Palestinians a state encompassing 95% of what they wanted. This pleased Friedman the liberal. Arafat torched the olive branch that was extended to him and Friedman the hawk reminds us that Arafat had many maps that did not even show modern Israel on them. Friedman the hawk also applauded the fall of Saddam from a humanitarian viewpoint (reminding us that Saddam killed more Muslims in the 20th century than any other individual) and asked his readers to "give the CIA a break," and "give war a chance."

    One of the most important ideas this book relates is that, unlike Christianity and the Jewish faith, Islam never went though Enlightenment or a Reformation. What this means is that Islam never separated church and state the way that the West has done and therefore Islam has not been able to move its society and culture forward because of the constant influence of clerics who can't effectively run a modern nation.

    Lastly, the last quarter of the book that was written in a diary format was primarily a rehash of ideas spelled out earlier in the book - merely reformatted to fit the geographic contours of where and when Friedman wrote his columns. This part of the book added little new information and seemed that it was almost an afterthought... an awkward attempt to tie together all the canned columns.

      Book Description

      This book is about the solution of the current crisis in marketing efficiency and productivity:

      The old marketing model is broken. And it can't be fixed. It must be replaced with Concurrence Marketing.

      Nearly 70 percent of consumers say they are interested in products to shield them from all marketing or advertising. Marketing that relies on saturation and intrusiveness has lost its effectiveness and productivity because it no longer fits how people live and shop. The demographic underpinnings of the old model have been swept away by the mounting flood of difference and diversity. Traditional appeals have lost resonance in the face of radically different values and expectations.

      People now possess the tools, technologies and determination to assert control, which more people are doing because they no longer have the time, patience or interest for anything that is even slightly peripheral to their most important priorities. People now feel so pressed for time they are giving up sleep to get time back, which is bad news for marketers who continue to expect people's time and attention for free.

      In this groundbreaking book, three leading thinkers at the world-renowned marketing firm Yankelovich Partners outline tomorrow's blueprint for success. It begins with P&R2, the four cornerstones of Concurrence Marketing - more precision, relevance, power and reciprocity. And it requires the new tool of Addressable Attitudes - attitudes lined to individual names and addresses in order to match offers to interests with precision and relevance and to understand how best to deliver power and reciprocity.

      Marketers who practice Concurrence Marketing will realize dramatic gains in performance and productivity, the detailed case studies in this book demonstrate.

      Change is inevitable. The only question is whether marketers will be behind the wheel or just along for the ride. Concurrence Marketing will create competitive advantage not only because marketing messages will be heard again but also because marketing practices themselves will provide a source of competitive advantage.

      Concurrence Marketing is the breakthrough solution to the growing crisis of marketing productivity.

        Book Description

        Today's 18-to-40-year-olds make for a notoriously elusive group of consumers: they're savvy, sophisticated, and particular. They're all but immune to traditional advertising and have an instinctive sense of quality and fair pricing. Inundated with choices, they are drawn to brands that satisfy not just what they need, but what they crave. At the same time, these consumers are spending money like it's going out of style. Generation X has firmly refuted its slacker reputation and is nearing the height of its earning potential. Generation Y has more buying power than any previous generation of teens and twentysomethings. But how to win their attention and loyalty?

        In Mind Your X's and Y's, Lisa Johnson proves that the buying habits of 18-to-40-year-olds can be anticipated. Johnson, coauthor of Don't Think Pink and a leading marketing consultant, pinpoints the new rules of engagement for this Connected Generation. Based on her own and others' groundbreaking research, she looks into the heart of the Gen X and Y psyche to identify its ten core cravings -- for adventure, for high-concept design, for new families and social networks, and for personal storytelling, to name a few.

        This revolutionary book is packed with fascinating case studies of established and breakaway brands from every major industry, interviews with dozens of maverick thinkers and hundreds of consumers, and numerous revealing statistics. Johnson analyzes the scope of each craving to determine how it drives specific buying behaviors and offers relevant data that illustrate its impact. Mind Your X's and Y's equips anyone who wants to reach these consumers -- brand managers and their advertising, online, creative, packaging, events, and promotions teams; small-business owners and their marketing staff; advertising agencies and specialists -- with the know-how to transform market research into profitable strategies.

        Members of Generations X and Y are the most coveted and hard-to-reach consumers in the marketplace. Mind Your X's and Y's is a master class in how to create compelling brands for this Connected Generation.

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing assessment of the X and Y generations.......2007-01-04

        5 out of 5 stars A book that hits you where you live and shows you step by step how to influence one of the biggest markets in the nation today.......2006-09-07

        I loved this book, it is one of the best that I've read this year.

        This is an important book because it gives you a clear, step by step roadmap for influencing and persuading one of the most fickle (and over marketed) consumer groups of our era, those consumers between 18 - 40.

        The author goes into exacting detail about how this market consumes information and how you can create messages that resonate with them and stick. She also tells you what doesn't work (I cringed several times as I recognized mistakes that I made).

        If you are in this age range you'll find this book one of the most refreshing you've ever read because it will describe you and how you consume information (I know it did for me) and it will help you make the transition between the kind of marketer you are today and one that can be even more effective.

        This book is a guidebook, a roadmap and a manifesto. Grab this book today, even if your market it older, one of the things that the author didn't cover is how much more like 18 - 40 year olds older generations are becoming in their consumption of information and their resistance to advertising. Most of the information in this book applies to anyone who is active in today's world regardless of their age.

        I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars.

        Best-selling author Robert Schuller shows how you can improve your life by making eight crucial attitude adjustments. Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars Another Powerful Work.......2004-04-30

        Dr. Schuller is a gifted communicator who helps you to see beyond assumptions. On perception, consider the quote in this book from Karl Menninger, "Attitudes are more important than facts!" Attitude relates to need. We are interdependent and being aware of that truth is liberating. In the body of Christ, we are gifted to contribute to others. In turn, we receive the benefits of other people's efforts on our behalf. Or as Dr. Schuller puts it, "...the deepest need of the human being is the need to be needed." We need to use our gifts. Our satisfaction comes from making a difference. Humility is admitting we need help.

        In reading Dr. Schuller's works, including this one, there is a realization that here is a man who is writing from first hand experience. He so powerfully teaches on forgiveness that you just know only a person who has mastered that challenge can so eloquently address the issue. This is an encouraging look at the Beatitudes. One additional point worth pondering is that Dr. Schuller believes Jesus gave them as a logical progression. He believes that one is a stepping stone to the next one.

        5 out of 5 stars The Magic rules to be Happy-Attitude Makes a Difference!.......2002-04-20

        5 out of 5 stars ARE YOU A HAPPY PERSON, IF NOT READ THIS BOOK.......2000-07-18

        We in the United States have so much to be happy about, but are we happy? Everytime i go over seas i come back humbled. You see a lot of the foreign countries have a lot of poor people. This being said, i find that some of the poorest countries have people with some of the happiest hearts. You see it doesn't take money or mataerial goods to be happy.

        I think we need to do a self inspection about our attitudes and see if we can make some adjustments.

        This book tells about how to change your way of thinking about attitudes. Like the title suggests "THE BE HAPPY ATTITUDES", i think we can and should change our attitude about life. Life is beautiful thing and i think we should be happy to be alive.

        I WOULD LIKE TO STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

        5 out of 5 stars Reflects the wisdom and happiness needed but not practiced!.......1998-06-05

        I think this is a excellent book for anyone. The book brings out the morals and virtues that we all bascically believe in, but don't necessarily portray or adopt into our lives. This is a positive book which relates to any situation from spiritual to chewing gum (HaaaHaa). This is a real book about real every day situations. A highly recommend this authors' books, though they might be repetitious from book to book. The advantage of the repetition is ok in a sense that it is sort of testing your memory or retaining of information, which is good because you will know if you got the message. All good things........ENJOY>>>>>>>>

        5 out of 5 stars Among my first batch of books...with greatest influence on attaining personal achievement in life!.......2006-07-21

        The first batch of significant books that had the greatest influence on me in terms of attaining personal achievement includes mostly Napoleon Hill's books:

        - The Law of Success;
        - Think & Grow Rich;
        - The Keys to Success;
        - Success through a Positive Mental Attitude;
        - Succeed & Grow Rich through Persuasion;

        The others were from Clement Stone, Dale Carnegie, & Earl Nightingale.

        That was the early 70's when I had just started work as a young engineer.

        The author, Napoleon Hill, had impressed me most by his relentless dedication in spending some two to three decades of his life in pursuing & researching the success secrets of the rich & famous...with a little help from Andrew Carnegie, of course.

        As matter of fact, many of the famous people he interviewed were also favourite role models of mine e.g. Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, just to name a few

        Till this day, I have never forgotten what he said:

        "The most powerful instrument we have in our hands is the power of our mind."

        I have never ceased to be fascinated by the simplicity & the potency of his ABCs of personal achievement: CONCEIVE, BELIEVE & ACHIEVE!

        It is certainly enlightening to note that even Stephen Covey had drew inspiration from Napoleon Hill's work even though he never made that credit. He only admitted that the 7 Habits had its origins from "200 years of success literature in the United States." That remark itself is self explanatory.

        Anthony Robbin's Mastery program as embodied in his books as well as his audio/video resources is no exception, even though he has been influenced in larger extent by NLP.

        If you look at & compare the 17 principles of personal achievement in 'The Law of Success' &/or the 13 Steps to Riches in 'Think & Grow Rich', one can obviously see the uncanny resemblance of the 7 Habits & the Mastery principles...in one way or another.

        At this juncture, let me outline the principal theme of each book:

        The Law of Success: the original course on the fundamentals of success - all the seventeen essential principles of personal achievement;
        Think & Grow Rich: The seventeen essential principles are reframed & condensed in terms of thirteen concrete steps to wealth creation (in actuality, this is a condensation of the Law of Success);
        The Keys to Success: a further elaboration of the seventeen essential principles with concrete suggestions, exercises & advice;
        Success Through Positive Mental Attitude: joint authorship with Clement Stone, with a further emphasis on developing a positive mental attitude;
        Succeed & Grow Rich Through Persuasion: joint authorship with Clement Stone, with a further emphasis on developing master salesmanship & networking;
        [It is pertinent to note that Clement Stone actually built his insurance business empire with these principles.]

        My most productive, personal learning experience from Napoleon Hill's work is the understanding - application - of his success principle #1: Develop Definiteness of Purpose.

        [Very surprisingly, J Y Pillay, former Chairman of Singapore Airlines, - who had been credited for building the airline to what it is today, A GREAT WAY TO FLY! - also credited his work axiom to this same success principle, but he attributed it to an ancient Hindu scripture known as Bhagavad Gita.]

        I am certainly gratified to note that Napoleon Hill's work had casted so much influence on - & empowered - so many people in the world, including myself.

        5 out of 5 stars Clear the cobwebs from your thinking. Great endorsement from Robert Schuller!.......2005-10-01

        Having already read Think & Grow Rich, I didn't think that there was anything more that I could learn about PMA. I figured that this would be more of the save only on a different cover. Boy was I surprised!

        W.Clement Stone and Napolean Hill joined forces for this text. W. Clement Stone used the principles in Think & Grow Rich to amass a personal and self made fortune in excess of $400,000,000
        when that was worth $400,000,000.

        I found chapter 2 particularly interesting. How Robert Christopher was able to travel around the world in 84 days with only $80 merely as a result of setting it as a goal, conceiving, believing and then achieving it is impressive.

        Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude is divided into five parts, 19 chapters and over 300 pages. It's a fun, easy read and provides powerful strategies i.e. pilots to succeed.

        In 1990, I met a very successful businessman who told me he went from unemployment living in Tampa, Fl to over $2.5 million and moved to Hawaii where he bought a boat and retired in only 18 months using these principles along with the right opportunity.
