Millspaugh and Marzluff's text is the most complete and up-to-date resource for information regarding the application and analysis of radio-telemetry studies. All aspects, from sampling design to analytical techniques, are described in depth. Anyone who is considering conducting a telemetry study or the analysis of any telemetry data should read this book front to back first.

Radio tracking and animal populations covers all aspects of radio tracking wild animals, from designing the study right through to analyzing results and drawing conclusion from the findings. I have found this book to be the most comprehensively referenced, and in depth piece of literature on radio tracking that I have managed to locate so far.
I have constantly used this book while carrying out a telemetry study as the research for my masters degree, and recommend this book as the ideal starting point for anyone considering carying out a radio tracking study of wild animals.
My only regret concerning this book is that I didn't come across it earlier in my studies.

Great piano (guitar/vocal) songbook.......2006-10-31

Although the back cover states "Easy-to-play arrangements for piano, guitar and voice" this is not at all a beginners book.
Some songs are pretty easy, but overall the level is moderate to pretty advanced. There is quite a variety of "genre" as well I think. Some nice mellow almost ballad like songs, some bluesy tunes, some jazz, a little rock.
I will scan the back cover of the book and upload the image ( if I can ) so everyone can see what songs are included.

If you're a Transformer fan into collecting stickers than this book is for you. I bought it maily for the nostalgia factor since the dioramas on the backs of the G1 toy boxes are included. You also get 61 stickers of many G1 Transformers. The book has spaces for 27 of the stickers and gives a short description of the character next to each sticker. I guess you are supposed to stick the remaining 34 stickers on the diorama pages (four of them one page each) to "create your own Transformer adventures." The stickers are mainly the pics from the covers on the G1 toy boxes with a few artist renderings and Dreamweave designs.

Book Description

When a DJ stops showing up for work at WAOR-FM, Rick Shannon moves back to Mississippi to take the night shift. No sooner than he settles into the job, Rick finds a mysterious reel of tape that just might explain what happened to the missing DJ. His curiosity piqued, Rick starts poking around and soon finds himself going down a road littered with extortion, arson, murder, and an FCC violation that makes Howard Stern look like a Cub Scout.

Before you can say "Stairway to Heaven," Rick finds himself wading through a swamp of suspects, including a tough divorcée who rents construction equipment, a former local beauty pageant queen (Miss Tire & Auto Parts), WAOR's general manager, and the president of a local personal finance company who has peculiar ideas about collateral and who just might be part of the feared Dixie Mafia.

Way too much radio techno talk...who cares about "segues" or what disk jockeys talk about in detail to play. Basic story okay but not nearly up to his prior books...especially Heart Seizure which was the best.

Split decision.......2006-07-13

Fans of Fitzhugh will either love this book or dislike it. They'll love it for it's different venue of writing as compared to say Pest Control and Organ Grinders along with the vast knowledge and references to the basis of classic rock. Fans will dislike it for... well the same exact reasons.

We have Rick Shannon, radio dj veteran turned private investigator (with no license mind you) who ends up in McRae, Mississippi in the middle of some dirty schemes and he sets out to solve the mystery of the missing dj Captain Jack. I liked the characters in general, ranging from Rob, TC, and Autumn to the love interest-blue mascara wearing Traci, Rick, and even Lori & Donna. For me, the detective story fell flat and was uninteresting. Again, for me, there is far too much music/song history and definining classic rock is iffy. This 350 page book would probably be closer to the 250 mark if you removed all the song/artist/album comments, just way too many for my tastes. I'd like a little more action but it's readable for detective readers if you can push through all the song references.

Turn Off the Radio and Read This!.......2006-07-09

This is my second Fitzhugh novel and although I think it lacked the fast pace and has a little bit less of the Carl Hiaasen type surreal events of the other Fitzhugh novel I read Cross Dressing, it was still a great read. I did think though the Fitzhugh got a little bit side tracked at times with trying to show off his knowledge from his days at FM rock stations of classic rock albums and music industry politics. Radio Activity though was a great read and I will definitely be checking out the sequel Highway 61 Resurfaced as well as all the other novels Bill Fitzhugh has written.

In Radio Activity, Rick Shannon has been a radio DJ for a long time and is seeing his profession dwindle in numbers from Syndication and thinks the industry is losing the plot as to what radio is all about. After being unemployed and forced to sell his records to survive he is relieved, although not thrilled to accept a job offer in rural Mississippi. Upon arrival he soon finds out that his job has a lot more to it than he agreed to but embraces the challenge of the position and sets out to give WAOR-FM a unique identity by playing only classic rock songs that no one else plays anymore. He also decides to investigate the life of the DJ he has replaced who seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. He is even more motivated to find the truth when his windshield is smashed and he is beaten up by a debt collector after the money owed by his predecessor who he is mistaken for. Rick takes on the persona of Buddy Miles PI and sets out to uncover the secrets which seem to involve his boss, the local police and everyone else career wise he shouldn't antagonise.

Half And Half.......2005-09-07

This book is an enjoyable read, especially for those true music fans who can only imagine a radio station that would care as much for the music as the do at WAOR. As far as a music/detective novel, I'll give it 50% on both sides. The music references were SUPURB, but it's a detective novel. The private investigator that Rick will become will hopefully spawn a little more excitement and not be quite as predictable. Overall, once again, it was an enjoyable read. It was my first from this author and I will definitely pick up another of his novels.

Tiresome course on music history.......2005-05-09

I had high hopes for this book since it is set in Mississippi and since I was under the impression that it had to do a bit with music from my generation. However, if I had wanted a book exclusively designed around music, who wrote it, who recorded it, when they did it (both), what category it arguably falls in, and what arguments for and against each and every song from each and every album, and so on, ad nauseum, I would have just bought a book on music history covering the late 60's and early 70's.
I know there must be a story somewhere in the 350+ pages, but I don't have the patience to skip the endless blather about songs and singers in between mentions of the plot that reading the whole thing would require. I wouldn't bother with anything else written by this author.

I enjoy little collections of bookmarks like this. I like to have a bookmark in every book I read so I often grab these little booklets of them. I like the artwork on this one very much. I didn't think that the little text blurbs on the back contributed anything but how can you go wrong with colorful wizards and dragons?

I liked this because it has bookmarks but they are all in a little booklet. Although, I didn't like that they were perforated but with a pair of scissors you can fix that so it's no biggy. I love dragons and wizards so these were pefect for me.

Just like one of the other reviewers, I purchased the bookmarks at the last moment (actually so I'd qualify for the super-saver shipping). When I checked out, however, I noticed that I was charged $1.50 for the item + a $1.99 sourcing fee. Can anyone tell me what a sourcing fee is? I've never heard of it and I've looked all over Amazon to find out and it's not listed.

Otherwise, I think I'd be very happy with this item. ;-)
