R. Paul Drake Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 3540293140 |
Book Description
The raw numbers of high-energy-density physics are amazing: shock waves at hundreds of km/s (approaching a million km per hour), temperatures of millions of degrees, and pressures that exceed 100 million atmospheres. This book introduces the reader to the fundamental tools and discoveries of high-energy-density physics. It surveys the production of high-energy-density conditions, the fundamental plasma and hydrodynamic models that can describe them and the problem of scaling from the laboratory to the cosmos. Connections to astrophysics will be discussed throughout. The book is intended to support coursework in high-energy-density physics, to meet the needs of new researchers in this field, and also to serve as a useful reference on the fundamentals.

Systems of Conservation Laws 1: Hyperbolicity, Entropies, Shock Waves
Denis Serre Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items: ASIN: 0521582334 |
Book Description
Systems of conservation laws arise naturally in physics and chemistry. To understand them and their consequences (shock waves, finite velocity wave propagation) properly in mathematical terms requires, however, knowledge of a broad range of topics. This book sets up the foundations of the modern theory of conservation laws describing the physical models and mathematical methods, leading to the Glimm scheme. Building on this the author then takes the reader to the current state of knowledge in the subject. The maximum principle is considered from the viewpoint of numerical schemes and also in terms of viscous approximation. Small waves are studied using geometrical optics methods. Finally, the initial-boundary problem is considered in depth. Throughout, the presentation is reasonably self contained, with large numbers of exercises and full discussion of all the ideas. This makes it an ideal text for graduate courses in the area of partial differential equations.

Differential Models
Alexander Solodov , and Valery Ochkov Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 3540208526 |
Book Description
Differential equations are often used in mathematical models for technological processes or devices. However, the design of a differential mathematical model is crucial and difficult in engineering.
As a hands-on approach to learn how to pose a differential mathematical model the authors have selected 9 examples with important practical application and treat them as following:
- Problem-setting and physical model formulation
- Designing the differential mathematical model
- Integration of the differential equations
- Visualization of results
Each step of the development of a differential model is enriched by respective Mathcad 11 commands, todays necessary linkage of engineering significance and high computing complexity.
To support readers of the book with respect to changes that might occur in future versions of Mathcad (Mathcad 12 for example), updates of examples, codes etc. can be downloaded from the following web page www.thermal.ru. Readers can work with Mathcad-sheets of the book without any Mathcad by help Mathcad Application Server Technology.

Must Have It!.......2002-07-04

The best book EVER on high-temperature flows........2002-04-19
Zel'dovich was a physicist of extraordinary breadth of interests. The style of this book is to give heuristic explanations followed by rigorous analysis. It is insightful for both beginning students and researchers in the field. This book is an ABSOLUTE MUST for anyone working on the subjects listed above.
The Dover edition binds both original volumes as one, and is based on the very scarce second printing, in which most of the typographical errors in the first printing were corrected. All other errors noted over the years since the original edition went out of print have been collected and corrected in this version, which should be virtually error free.
I URGE anyone working in astrophysics and high-temperature flow physics to buy, read, enjoy, and be enlightened by this masterpiece.

Hydrodynamics of Explosion: Experiments and Models (Shock Wave and High Pressure Phenomena) (Shock Wave and High Pressure Phenomena)
Valery K. Kedrinskii Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 3540224815 |
Book Description
Hydronamics of Explosion presents the research results for the problems of underwater explosions and contains a detailed analysis of the structure and the parameters of the wave fields generated by explosions of cord and spiral charges, a description of the formation mechanisms for a wide range of cumulative flows at underwater explosions near the free surface, and the relevant mathematical models. Shock-wave transformation in bubbly liquids, shock-wave amplification due to collision and focusing, and the formation of bubble detonation waves in reactive bubbly liquids are studied in detail. Particular emphasis is placed on the investigation of wave processes in cavitating liquids, which incorporates the concepts of the strength of real liquids containing natural microinhomogeneities, the relaxation of tensile stress, and the cavitation fracture of a liquid as the inversion of its two-phase state under impulsive (explosive) loading. The problems are classed among essentially nonlinear processes that occur under shock loading of liquids and may be of interest to researchers in physical acoustics, mechanics of multiphase media, shock-wave processes in condensed media, explosive hydroacoustics, and cumulation.

Shock Wave Science and Technology Reference Library, Vol. 2: Solids I (Shock Waves Handbook)
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items: Accessories:
ASIN: 3540223649 |
Book Description
This book is the first of several volumes on solids in the Shock Wave Science and Technology Reference Library. These volumes are primarily concerned with high-pressure shock waves in solid media, including detonation, high-velocity impact, and penetration. Of the eight chapters in this volume three chapters survey recent, exciting experimental advances in: - Ultra-short shock dynamics at the atomic and molecular scale (D.S. More, S.D. Mcgrane, and D.J. Funk), - Z accelerator for ICE and Shock compression (M.D. Knudson), and - Failure waves in glass and ceramics (S.J. Bless and N.S. Brar).
The subsequent four chapters are foundational, and cover the subjects of : - Equation of state (R. Menikoff), - Elastic-plastic shock waves (R. Menikoff), - Continuum plasticity (R. M. Brannon), and - Numerical methods (D. J. Benson).
The last chapter, but not the least, describes a tour de force illustration of today’s computing power in modeling heterogeneous reactive solids at the grain scale (M.R. Baer).
All chapters are each self-contained, and can be read independently of each other, though they are of course thematically interrelated. They offer a timely reference, for beginners, as well as professional scientists and engineers, on the foundations of shock waves in solids with new viewpoints, and on the burgeoning developments.
