Mystery is an aspiring Toronto magician who charges $2,250 for a weekend pickup workshop. He is not much to look at: a cross between a vampire and a computer geek. But by using high-powered marketing techniques he's turned seduction into an effortless craft--even inventing his own vocabulary. His technique sounds like a car salesman's tip sheet: his main rule is FMAC--find, meet, attract, close. He employs the "three-second rule"--always approach a woman within three seconds of first seeing her in order to avoid getting shy. Other tricks: Intrigue a beautiful woman by pretending to be unaffected by her charm; also, never hit on a woman right away. Start with a disarming, innocent remark, like "Do you think magic spells work?" or "Oh my god, did you see those two girls fighting outside?" And finally, the most important characteristic of the pickup artist--smile.
After two years, Strauss ends up becoming almost as successful as Mystery, but he comes to an important realization. His techniques were actually off-putting to the woman he ended up falling in love with. And they never prepared him for actually having a relationship. This was one of the most fascinating and entertaining books I've ever read. Besides getting an inside look at the society of pick-up artists, I gained some interesting insight into human psychology. It's written in a wonderful narrative, story style which made it hard to put down.
It is a must read, whether you're interested in learning about how to pick up women or you're just wanting to read a great true story.

Not a pickup guide - but worth the read.......2007-10-06
I recently purchased this book after reading the many favorable reviews on Amazon.com.
First off, this isn't a "how to pick up girls" book, though the process is covered in some depth. Instead, it is a story of a man's search for himself and purpose in life by learning the techniques of the master pickup artists. Sound shallow? I thought so too until I began to read some more.
What starts as an innocent enough goal (to be more successful with women) ends up becoming an obsession for the author, who is short, balding, and not generally considered to be attractive. Neil Strauss (who goes by the name "Style") makes the slow but steady transition from AFC (average, frustrated chump) to mPUA (master pickup artist).
As a single man in his late 20's, I can easily identify with the author's initial challenges. Approaching a beautiful woman is an intimidating prospect, especially for men with low self-esteem - nevermind that they have no idea what to say. However, under the wings of the mPUA Mystery, Style comes into his own and seems to have no problem picking up any woman he sets his eyes on.
Along his journey, the reader is introduced to a variety of strange characters, from pickup wannabees to psychotic women.
The book is great for anyone - men or women, who would like a glimpse of the pickup community.

I've read a bunch of these books on how to meet women and usually I don't bother to write a review - they are so bad. I read The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed and thought it was good. In hindsight it would have been better to read The Game first. It just seems like the books fit better together that way and you should definitely read both. The story in this book is what makes it worth while. Forget the advice; you'll get all that from TMM and more but this book is the story and that makes it all the better, as you get to see the techniques in use. Perhaps the best point in the book is "Juggler was right; humor is the best way to get women." That is an interesting point because while both books talk about confidence and humor and while Juggler and some other guys have it, most of the other guys, including the author himself, don't really develop it - they just rely on all kinds of lines and schemes to impress women. To that end along with this book you must read God Is a Woman: Dating Disasters, which is by a comedian and which does include lots of in-depth pointers on building real confidence and humor. Without a doubt, these are the three books to read on women and I truly appreciate these guys putting their embarrassing moments out there for the rest of us to learn from.

"They treat women as the enemy. And we're not, I swear!" wrote a female reviewer. As its title 'The Game' implies, Neil Strauss does not describe men and women as enemies at war, but as players on opposite sides of the same game. And most men happen to be ill-prepared to play this game as well as their female opponents. Unfortunately, this game can turn serious at any given moment.
At the very least, most guys who were raised by single moms and men who had sweet doormats as fathers are doomed in their relationships with women. The average wussboy got to be very lucky or he'll end up in the gutter, emotionally and/or literally. For starters, thousands of men are paying child support for other men's children. Hard evidence of DNA tests may be on the guy's side, gold-digging chicks and the "law" may not be his friends at all. Here we are at war indeed, aren't we?
Alas, you don't need children to be taken for the ride of your lifetime by a nice and friendly girl. Ask Paul McCartney. On your first date with the most lovely, intelligent, and witty lady you have ever met you better be aware of possibly flirting with your worst nightmare you may never recover from for the rest of your days. Material that allows men to approach women with a healthy dosage of emotional detachment is worth it's weight in gold. 'The Game' qualifies many times over.
Falling in love head over heals is--and always has been--reserved for the ultimate sucker, and perhaps Neil's book prevents the worst cases of loving idiocy and bankruptcy. Feeling confident and free to meet as many women as they wish permits guys to find the needle in the haystack. The first girl who is willing to sleep with a man is not likely to be his best bet. Duh. After meeting 80 or two hundred women, he may be better equipped to pick and choose.
So many men are scared to death to even talk to a woman. 'The Game' teaches how to defuse potential land mines every guy has stumbled over in the pre-relationship stage of male-female communication. Goodness, every woman who wants a real man as a life partner will appreciate that or she isn't worth having dinner with.
Last but not least, Neil Strauss' sense of humor makes for a grand experience of his unusual world.

So I read this book on how to help pick up women, because the title looks so promising. I read it and basically it doesn't have too much to offer. It doesn't give straight foward help, it kinda beats around the bush. I have learned some new things in this book, such as how to start conversations with women and ask openended questions with them (expect the phrase "Whats your story" about 1000 times). But basically, the information in this book is vague. It does not give instant results like we guys all planned to, but it gives you a starting point and hangs you out to dry on your road to being a PUA instead of a chump.
Being a 20 year old college student and living in a city full of females who are stuck up, I figured this book would help out. Unfortunately, it did not do me too much justice. If you guys found success in this book with the opposite sex, give yourself a pat on the back. Funny that female reviewers (like the one below me), might get a joke out of this book because they go around making others feel like crap. I for one really don't recommend this book because of it's vague subject matter. If you want to read a good book, I recommend How to Succeed with Women, because that book gives more info into detail. It has to be said, guys; WOMEN CAN READ! And we're reading these male dating guides faster than you are and we know all the tricks. Play them and you'll be labeled a loser before you get to flash that charming smile.
I have a college-age daughter and she and her friends have a collection of these books (The Game, Mystery Method, PBDG, etc.) that they pass back and forth and laugh about, belittling guys they've caught in the act of trying to employ what they've read. It's kinda sad.
And worse, every women's talk show has turned these books inside out. Any woman with a television will spot the act and you may lose out on a promising encounter.
Go back to being yourself. You're a lot more attractive than you think!

A tale of global warming that gave me chills.......2007-09-20
Tim Flannery's "The Weathermakers" is not only an eloquent plea for the industrialized world to deal with the problem of climate change, but provides the science needed to understand this huge and vital topic. The book is spooky great fun too, with frights and chills enough to get the attention of any thrill seeker. Except that the thrills here come from contemplating near-irreversible global cataclysms that would wipe out humanity or make life darned near intolerable for us.
Flannery is terrific at making difficult science easy to understand, without dumbing it down or condescending to his audience. This was greatly aided by the narrator of the audio book, Drew De Carvalho, whose wide-eyed Aussie delivery was akin to the joy and wonder of that other fine Down-under naturalist, Steve Irwin. Flannery discussed the Earth's tumultuous climactic past, using data obtained from tree rings and ice cores, to paint a picture of a dynamic planet whose climate and biota have varied wildly over its existence. Glaciers advance and retreat. Gargantuan upwellings of methane overwhelm the biosphere. Oceans rise and fall hundreds of feet. Changes in atmospheric gases permit or debar shellfish from secreteing the carboniferous husks that pull CO2 out of the atmosphere. The message: what Earth has done, it can do again.
Flannery does a wonderful job of explaining the large weather phenomena known to most laymen -- carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, changes to the Gulf Stream, warming trends, etc. But he is equally good at describing the lesser-known but important elements that factor into climatic equations. I was not aware that transpiration -- the release of moisture from Amazonian trees -- was a main cause of precipitation in the region. I had never heard of clathrates, huge fields of methane-infused ice that underlie the oceans. And I had never thought of climate change literally chasing certain heat-sensitive species up into alpine regions, until they run out of room and become extinct. Flannery is also wonderful at explaining the feedback loops that, once triggered, can accelerate certain climatic trends. Air conditioning powered by burning coal can increase levels sulfur dioxide in rain, acidifying the oceans, making it harder for shellfish to secrete shells, thus leaving more CO2 in the atmosphere, causing further warming and leading to the need for more AC, and so on.
Climate change to Flannery is not a theoretical possibility, but a certainty whose effects are visible today. He tells of the now-extinct South America Golden Toad, whose habitat was fed by moisture in low-lying clouds, being wiped out when a Pacific ocean hot spot caused mist-giving clouds to form just slightly higher up the mountainside than usual. His tale of the bleaching of the reefs like Great Barrier Reef -- in which huge swaths of coral reefs ejected their symbiotic algae, then bleached and die in a single season -- was frightening and sad. His discussion of the measurable changes in salinity in the Gulf Stream -- changes that could imperil its flow with deleterious effect on climate -- was terrifyingly plausible. Most chilling of all, Flannery's telling of the planet's near-miss with significant ozone depletion (due to industry's fortuitous use of chlorine rather than hyper-reactive bromine in aerosol cans and refrigeration systems) underscored how easy it is for humanity to fatally foul our nest without even realizing we are doing it.
The book is alarming, but not alarmist. It does not seek the cheap thrill of scaring us to sell copies, but to educate and forewarn. Flannery is not afraid to call out the human practices that are warming our planet. Transportation needs (which account for 30% of CO2 emissions), accelerating burning of carbon-rich fossil fuels, and shortsighted self-interest are high on the list of culprits. Flannery points the finger at the big coal-gorging countries in the world -- the US and Australia among them -- for significant criticism. Neither does he spare the industrial giants who use deceit, misinformation and political contributions to steer politicians (and the public) away from limiting profitable, planet-damaging enterprises.
I came away from the book with a new appreciation for the complexity and the fragility of the Gaia -- the living organism that is the Earth. "The Weathermakers" increased my appreciation of the path on which we have put our world. If Flannery's descriptions and predictions are true, our fossil-fuel-burning habits have already committed us to significant extinctions of species and significant discomfort for ourselves. As Flannery states, future generations will curse ours if we see the looming problem and fail to take action to correct it. Flannery is hopeful (else, why write such a book?) about our ability to turn things around. He evaluates technological and political solutions to the problems he poses, which not all will like, for carbon-low solutions include wind, geothermal, solar and (gasp!) nuclear power generation. And Flannery dismisses certain hopeful technologies like hydrogen and biomass. Flannery is also hopeful that past global cooperation -- of the type that limited the production of ozone-killing CFCs -- will be repeated, as human beings band together to save their world.
"The Weather Makers" is a wonderful book that can open your eyes to the complexity of our world, of the difficulties of addressing climate change without wrecking economies, and of our responsibility to pass our planet, reasonably intact, to our children. Its stacks of facts can sometimes numb the mind, but they are the data needed to combat ignorance and deceit one often encounters when trying to persuade our friends and neighbors about the possibility of anthropogenic climate change.

I bought the book on the basis it would be an objective and well structured argument explaining how scientists had negated natural influences on climate change - Milankovich cycles, solar activity and plate tectonics - and isolated the anthropogenic influences.
However, I discovered the book is written in a mildly hysterical tone common to environmental activists. If you want to read a scientific account of climate change and how human activity is affecting the climate, read the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report.
Boo Hoo.......2007-07-27
"Well done China for improving the lives of your citizens" This is one of the many quotes that you will NOT find it Tim Flannerys book. Others include "Before the industrial revolution, average life expectancy was about 36 years of age" and finally "You can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs". However if you want to know how every living thing on the planet would be better off if we disapeared, you are on the right track.

This book is great reading in conjunction with Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. The author convincingly demonstrates that global warming is real, and that terrible consequences loom ahead if nothing is done about it.
I was very surprised to read how the Australian government bullies its neighboring islands in the Pacific Ocean. Many of the Pacific Islands nations are doomed to sink under water as the ocean level rise, yet they are bullied by the Australian government into inaction. Like individuals, nations are selfish and have no regard for other nations if it does not suit their purposes. This notion angered me. Unless the citizens of the world take action to fight global warming and CO2 emissions, governments, motivated by self-interest, will be very slow to act, if at all.
Many of the themes in the book were already familiar to me, especially after reading An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. One new concept was about hydrogen power. According to the author, hydrogen power is not the solution to global warming since to produce hydrogen power fossil fuels must be burnt. He proposes the use of electric, solar, nuclear and wind power which are all available and affordable.
The author also laments all the animals that became extinct due to global warming. For example, a frog, newly discovered by science, carries its newborn in its stomach. When ready to give birth, it regurgitates its babies. This is the only known species to do so, yet soon after its discovery, it became extinct due to our environmental carelessness. Many other species of animals, insects, and plants are becoming extinct.
Maybe when we learn to stop killing each other we can finally take care of our environment. Does that mean that our root is evil and that nothing can be done to save our planet?

Concise, easy to read, and right to the point. Everything anyone would want to know about how man is changing the climate and what one could do to alleviate their impact in this process. Each individual is responsible for their own actions and we MUST slow the global warming process or the 21st century will see catastrophic environmental changes. There will be three main kinds of people who won't read this book. The first are those who see no reason for military intervention anywhere, ever. The second are those who are hypersensitive to any speaking of ethnicity, race, gender, etc., within a kilometer of earshot. The third are those who don't like long books, and "Charlie Wilson's War" is certainly longer than most. All this would be too bad, because the book is a wealth of little known and critical current history, as well as a real rip-snorting adventure. The most intriguing icing on the cake is that Charlie Wilson, one of the boldest and effective national-interest congressmen of the last century, was a Democrat. He was a Democrat who pushed Republicans forward for a decade, mostly to do the right things. How many right things, of course, remains to be seen in coming decades.
Much of the book is written in colloquial style, as the author reproduces many discussions among a very wide variety of people. This sometimes comes out sounding a little coarse, but the reader should see this quickly as a writer trying to be accurate. Charlie Wilson, the man himself, also might turn many readers off. He abused his body with food and drink, mostly drink; he was a maverick to the point of almost being a loose canon; wild, he certainly was. No one, though, can deny that he was one of those rarest of politicians. Here was a man who did not stop with saying what he wanted to do, he found ways to do what needed to be done. Then he kept at it, and at it. Here was a man of his word.
This interesting story suffers only a small weakness as a narrative, and only if the reader minds. The action chapter by chapter, even section by section, does not always tell us what was happening at the same time with other people, and at other places. Rather, the author likes to keep a thread of a theme or thought and follow it to the end. This can be irritating and a little confusing if you are trying to keep things straight for any particular group of years at a time. If this does not make a problem for reader, then so much the better. A last suggestion: this book goes down especially well by audio CD, and the voice narrator does well with dialogs and accents.
A great true story.......2007-10-04
This is a truly amazing tale. Never told until now and soon a movie. Buy this book and read the true story about how a "wild" congressman and a rogue CIA agent changed history. Better by far than all those fictional adventures!
four and 1/2 stars........2007-10-01
steve coll's excellent book "ghost wars" whet my reading appetite for more on the soviet war in afghanistan. since that military action, with the unanticipated consequences it spawned for the united states, was such a catalyst for the 9/11 attacks, it seems essential for an american to get a grip on what took place there. "charlie wilson's war" is a thrilling account of that international drama. though much of the book deals with funding america's covert involvement through congressional appropriation subcommittees, and with CIA office politics, the narrative is interesting page for page throughout this long work. not once did i find it a chore to continue, or feel an urge to skip past anything. george crile brings the colorful personalities of those involved to vivid life through his clear prose. he actually makes appropriation subcommitees, and their methods of work, interesting. and his portraits of afghanistan and pakistan, and their respective political environments and key political players, is brilliantly executed. the story is told completely from the american perspective, true. you will have to seek elsewhere for a more balanced view (by this i mean one that takes into account the soviet soldiers side of things). but this book being what it is, is a fascinating read, and one you can learn much from.

One of the most intriguing stories of American foreign policy making. This book was recommended to me by a staffer for a military oriented Congressional committee. He was quite emphatic in stressing that this book, better than any other, offers a great perspective on the influence Congress can have on foreign and war policy. I don't know how representative it is of the day to day activities of members of Congress, but it certainly shows how a dedicated member of Congress CAN get seriously involved in an issue.
Charlie Wilson is one of the most interesting politicians to have walked on the stage in the past 50 years. Part JFK, Nixon, LBJ, and Clinton - both good and bad parts - Wilson was a smart and dedicated defender of CIA efforts to support the mujaheden in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union. More than any supposed hardline conservative, including President Reagan, Wilson, a socially liberal Democrat from Texas, was the most agressive elected official to back the CIA in its anti-Soviet effort in Afghanistan. Wilson was also wildly able to get in the worst kinds of trouble: womanizing, drunk driving, and questionable uses of public money. I guess it goes to show that people are incredibly complex and contain a much more dynamic mix of good and bad within them. Kind of like the Incredible Hulk, but with less green.
Hard to read.......2007-08-29
Content was OK, I'm sure acurate, but about 210 pages into this 500+ page book I had to give in - I just couldn't make myself want to read it. I am only 31, so I do not know of Charlie Wilson, or the political temperature in the 80s, but this book was recommended to me so I tried, but couldn't make myself do it.

This is certainly not a "guide," as the title suggests. It talks a great deal about and around the issue, but offers little in terms of technique. I guess if you're not sure you even want to do it, this book might be helpful in making you more comfortable with the idea. But if you are actually looking for some specific advice that will give him "mind-blowing pleasure" as the book title infers, you won't find it here.

I'm about fifty pages in to this... I found it boring at first, but it seems to be getting more interesting. It is very informative and surprisingly long. My only disappointment is that the pictures are drawings (and not very good ones). Considering who it's written by, you would think that there would be some stock pictures that could be included... That would have been a lot better.
Incidentally, my husband is very excited by some of the new techniques that I have learned already.

I've given a few copies of this book to young, inexperienced girlfriends who are afraid to ask about sex, and reluctant to experiment. Each of them have thanked me in the end, and feel it is great advice. Since receiving the book must feel uncomfortable, I came up with a patented technique to break the ice. This is definitely a good book to read, it gives lot of good tips that you can use in life.. The author is trying to make the readers "Happy" Lovers and not just become someone who is good at finding the dates.
This book covers almost every stage of dating relationship with a woman, starting from how to identify what kind of girl you would want to have in your life/making sure if that's the right package for you, approaching her, breaking ice with her, to actually how to maintain the same level of excitement in the relationship once you are with this beautiful lady.

I would say, don't bother with this book. First of all it's jam packed, the print is tiny and its just an endless stream of sentences so you get bored and loose track and its just a pain! Then the information in the book is pretty useless It has a lot to do with old fashioned seduction techniques which men see through a mile away and has absolutely nothing to do with the magic ingredient that actually makes people fall in love with each other. I think to be honest if someone ever found out what that magic ingredient was they'd bottle it and be world famous by now! The truth is, you can seduce anyone into liking you or fancying you, but 'love', 'real love' I don't think so! Obsession and dependence perhaps... but do you really want that?

Not what it claims--how to REALLY do it.......2006-12-31
As a person who loves the dating/relationship genre, let me assure you that there are MUCH better books out there. This book repackages the techniques usually recommended to salesmen--mirroring the other person in order to build rapport, and "speaking in their language." And that's exactly what you'll be doing--selling a falsified version of yourself in a marginally effective and pretty awkward way. (In spite of her exuberantly triumphant intro, Tracy Cabot is now divorced. I imagine it was hard to sustain this manufactured "bond" for very long.)
If you really want to learn about love languages, "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman is much better. It will teach you how to truly interpret and sincerely relate to expressions of love between you and your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner. And if you want to make a man fall in love with you, "Why Men Love Bitches" by Sherry Argov is hands-down the best. It takes the also-fabulous prinicples behind "The Rules" (which have worked for me beautifully) and makes them practicable for the modern and/or professional woman. (I highly recommend The Rules--loosely interpreted--as well). You can read any of these books in 2-3 hours. I have read the latter two more times than I can count.
If after reading Why Men Love Bitches and The Rules, you haven't solved your dating problems, you probably need to read "He's Just Not That Into You"--which is not about dating as much as it is about recognizing the excuses women make for men when the truth isn't what we want. (Gems include "No, he's not too busy to call you. Calling you takes less time than going to the bathroom. If he's into you, calling you is the bright moment in his otherwise busy day.") This should definitely help build the correct mentality for expecting--and getting--both interest and great treatment from men.
And, finally, "What Southern Women Know About Flirting" has some tips and ideas that will help anyone, but particularly those inclined to play the "Damsel in Distress" card. This one's just the icing on the cake.
Very different than most relationship advice books........2006-08-23
This book presents a unique approach to snagging guys. It teaches you how to use psychology to your advantage. The author argues that there are 3 types of men: visual, auditory, feelings. You speak to and treat each one differently. For example, when talking to a visual man, you say stuff like, "I SEE why you have that opinion". It makes them think that you really are on the same level and that you understand them. I can see why, from a logical point of view, that her advice and techniques would be successful. I was intrigued very much so by her "method" and have yet to try it for myself. To be honest, it wasn't what I expected. Sometimes, it got too wrapped up in psychology that it started to make relationships a little impersonal and mechanical. Well, at least she has her PH.D., so I guess her approach is accurate. I'd still recommend this, though, if you want a different read.

This book is great for guys that truely want to learn how to give their soul mates "absolute pleasure"!
My husband is a conservative Christian man! (So, I'm writing this for him) We both kept our virtue until our wedding night... NOW WHAT DO WE DO? We knew the mechanics our mom/dad and sex ed. teachers taught us... but we quickly learned there must be more to it than that! Needless to say, my husband was embarrassed he wasn't a natual guru in this area. Since, neither of us felt comfortable sharing our confusion with family or friends, we went to the section of the book store we always avoided. We went hesitantly and with one eye closed. We wanted to find something informative, without being too ronchy. I wanted a book that I wouldn't mind leaving my husband alone with either, lol.

Not as bad as I thought it would be........2007-10-10
I was mortified to receive this book as a gift after my relationship of 7 years ended. Also, I was initially turned off by the Cosmo and Chick Lit inspired writing style. But as I was reading, I eventually pulled out my highlighter. It was, as one reviewer said, a good refresher before getting back into the dating pool after my long-term relationship. I found that the far more valuable information was the life advice she gives about living in the moment. Something about how she explained it clicked this time. She also opened my eyes to a lot of mistakes I was making in my past relationship, namely that we gave up our own, separate lives and wore each other out.
However, it is quite short. I also saw a lot of ideas that came from other sources and am not sure how original she is.

This book gives some great advice about human nature and more importantly about living a life that is good for you. It sounds basic, but when you're being authentic to yourself, when you're relaxed and happy and excited about your own life and appreciative of others, you attract positive likeminded people to you -- which can only make things better! Its a good read, some very good and interesting tips and ideas. It's not at all manipulative or from the days of yore when Women were trained to become 'things' that men might desire. Fantastic that it does not put man on a pedestal and tell women to cater to his every whim or play hard to get or read between the lines or any of those other books that actually drive a big wedge between the sexes! This book actually respects that both men and women are people and at the heart of it want the same things. But above all, the most important tip -- is to descover and be yourself -- the freeing happiness alone will make you more attractive!

I've read several Christian books encouraging men to celebrate their masculinity, to consecrate themselves to marriage, and to conduct themselves as servant leaders. This title however, far surpasses the others I have read. Farrar through many humorous stories and Divinely-guided insight, reaches deeper into the heart of the Christian man than many other writers do. I consider this title to be the classic work by Farrar.
We need more writers like Steve Farrar, who stir the heart and soul of Christian men to be all they can be for their God, their wives, and their children.
Better than "Finishing Strong".......2006-04-28
He uses too many military and sports illustrations. He tends to generalize about culture. He uses some Christian Psychological and sociological studies. I mean, who cares? If you don't know how the surveys are taken and what questions they ask, what can you tell from them? Anyway, my biggest beef is that he does not talk about about how Christians should function within the Church. Raising a family should be done within the family of families, which is the church. It should not solely be the duty of the lone point man on patrol. I have these same criticisms about "Finishing Strong." However, this book is not as gimicky or poorly written as finishing strong. He gives some interesting advice about "habits of the heart." He makes me look at my own walk with God and how I can do better, which is the purpose of this book. Christians need to be encourage on how to pass on their faith to the next generation. I might even read this book again. I would never do that with "Finishing Strong."
I marginally recommend this book to young fathers. We read this in our small group and everybody else liked it so I am bumping it up to four stars.

I am surprised by some of the reviews here. The book is written in plain language and is very direct in pointing out that men, are failing to fulfill there roll as God intended. It then gives excellent guidance on how take a stand for your family. I have given this book to fellow Christians and those who are not believers, and never have heard anything but positive feedback. In addition to this I have lead men in this study as a group and the results have been wonderful. If you are not REALLY interested at looking objectively / critically at yourself, then don't buy it. Some reviewers here seem unable to move toward accountability. Another reviewer made comment that the book was racist, in that it mentions many current african american families as lacking fathers in the home. As a black man, I realize the truth is hard to take. This is NOT offensive, but enlightening. Great book, and current edition has study guide that is helpful as well.

I have read the other reviews of Point Man. I personally disagree with the negative reviews and subscribe instead to the positive ones, as this book has been a most influential read. (have read it 3x and will do so again.) The author puts forth the premise that the family is one of God's gifts, and that the family unit is one of the most influential means for learning God's love/initiating a relationship with Jesus Christ that covers multiple generations/ensuring the continuity of faith. So where is Satan's most effective battle...the family. I recently took this book to China with me (along with my Bible) for a 3rd reading on the 14 hour flight. Showed it to my Chinese national guide who was about to become a father for the 1st time.
