Sickening.......2007-10-10
Reading this book gave me the feeling of stepping into Abu Ghraib. Hitting babies with sticks is not a Christian activity. Jesus believed children were close to God and that adults should emulate children. Jesus believed in being kind and patient, and never once advocated any hitting or stoning or any sort of violence. Avoid this book like the plague, like the devil in lamb's clothing that it is.
Hucksters have for centuries misused the Bible to advocate cruel treatment of women, slavery and other horrors. They completely avoid Jesus's messages of love, peace and forgiveness and instead try to convince others that Christianity means being cruel, unfair and violent. Try Dr. Whitehurst's book "How Would Jesus Raise a Child?" rather than books that advocate behavior true followers of Jesus would never condone.
I can't believe there are books promoting child abuse.......2007-10-06
Anyone that buys this should not be a parent. Physical punishment is child abuse. Just because this book has a set of rules regarding the abuse they encourage does not mean it is well-intentioned or a reasonable means of punishment. Imagine reading a book on how to physically punish your wife and have that be taken seriously...same thing, the bible has info on spousal abuse as well. These people are misguided and obviously trying to make money off of their religion. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!
Another "raise them with fear so they will obey" book............2007-10-05
just what my title says - another "raise them with fear" book.....when will adults stop mixing up fear with respect? And withholding milk from an infant? How abusive!!! This is nothing but coercion through fear and intimidation. And, as another reviewer pointed out, what happens when these children grow up to be mindless adults, afraid to do anything without their parents' approval? When does one turn the reins over to their kids? Once they are thoroughly brainwashed to a parent's way of thinking? what about parents who can't stop at just one, two, three or five swats?
OH MY GOD.......2007-10-05
OK, Lets see withhold milk from your infant. Beat your kids.
Oh!! I almost forgot this will make you a happy family.
This book is about child abuse.
Most certainly NOT God's way.......2007-10-05
Gary Ezzo's over-reliance on Old Testament scripture is a manual for child abuse, much like that of other authors who represent the religious right. Ezzo, like these other authors (Dobson, Pearl, Lessin) ignores the New Testament entirely. Those who claim the Ezzos are 'good Christians' are fooling themselves; many churches want nothing to do with this disgusting man and his abusive, mean-spirited methods. Here are some examples;
p.210 "Biblical chastisement is not an act of punishment but of love.
Biblical chastisement is nearly completed by the age of five. The pain
of chastisement protects him from the devastating results of future
foolish decisions."
Corporal punishment does NOT protect; it only fuels an anger & resentment towards the parent(s) that will eventually backfire on the parents. I can remember only the hatred I had towards my father whenever he hit me, and I would eventually start hitting him back. It took years of therapy to get over the resentment I had towards him for his use of spanking as well as his emotional abuse towards me as a teenager - abuse that led to a suicide attempt at age 17.
p.319 "When our society used physical chastisement within the family, we
all enjoyed greater social order with far less violence."
As for this quote, this is FALSE! I personally know of people who were subject to regular corporal punishment & turned out as high-school dropouts and criminals, not the fine, upstanding people Ezzo wants you think you will produce if you use his methods. What Ezzo is really bent on creating are children who are nothing more than mindless robots, who will act ONLY in ways to please the parent. And what happen when these children are grown? They will not be able to stand up to abusive spouses, bosses, or others - but none of that seems to matter to Gary Ezzo.
Ezzo seems to believe in the doctrine of 'rule by fear'. This is NOT a way to raise a child. Avoid this dangerous man & his books - your children will be better off for it.

Worth the Price.......2006-08-18
Although I've developed macros for years in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and PowerPoint, this book still gave me new information and ways to accomplish tasks. The book is well worth the time to wander through. The only suggestion I have is that unless things have changed, PowerPoint has to dynamically create and assign macros to the buttons via the Auto_Open subroutine. An Add-In is created and loaded. This wonderfulness might have been briefly explained. But maybe the assumption is that folks know this already. I'm speaking from the perspective of a person who is new to PowerPoint macros.

Using both sides of the brain.......2007-01-11
By the time they seek the help of a professional organizer, many people have already read countless books about getting organized, only to become frustrated when they're unable to apply the authors' suggestions. While teaching time management courses, author Ann McGee-Cooper noticed that the prescribed systems worked well for half of the class, but that the others had reverted to their previous methods in less than a week.
Studies show that the two sides of the brain control different modes of thinking, and that most individuals have a preference for one side or the other. The preferences located on the left side of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® type chart (Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking and Judging) correspond to left brain thinking, and those on the right side (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling and Perceiving) correspond to right brain thinking. It is not surprising that many time management experts are left-brain thinkers for whom organization comes naturally. Unfortunately, their suggestions are often ineffective for right-brain thinkers, due to the different ways they process information. McGee-Cooper recognized this fact, and set out to write a guide on time management for right-brained thinkers. As a right-brained individual who has overcome traits of dyslexia, hyperactivity, and attention deficit disorder to become a successful author, lecturer, business consultant, creativity expert and business owner, Ann McGee-Cooper knows her subject matter well, and presents her information clearly and with a sense of humor.
This book is fun, and so is McGee-Cooper's approach to time management. She encourages the reader to make important information stand out on his or her calendar by using highly visual cues such as colors, pictures, symbols, or stickers, and to reduce stress by incorporating play time into daily life. With self-assessments, helpful hints, time-related quotes, and humorous illustrations, even left-brained thinkers are sure to enjoy reading this book and to find some ideas for fine-tuning their own time management systems.
Learn to Play!.......2006-06-29
There are some definite pros and cons to this text. It was not at all what I expected, but I did find some value in it. Overall, the authors were so politically-correct as to be irritating to me, and the worldview - especially in the first section - was subtly anti-biblical. (This will, of course, be viewed by some readers as a strength and by others as a weakness.)
For my purposes, there are two great weaknesses here. The first is that the bulk of the book is simply not practical; it's theoretical. Some of this theory was very interesting, but it wasn't what I was looking for when I purchased a book about time management. The second is that the examples all relate to the corporate world. As a full-time wife and mother, I would have appreciated some examples demonstrating how the theories apply to homemaking and family.
I did, however, derive one significant benefit from the book which was completely unexpected. The portions about the importance of PLAY were very enlightening for me. Having been diagnosed with adrenal fatigue (read: stress syndrome), I have been made profoundly aware of my own dysfunction in this area of "play" or "relaxation." The authors of this book have not only presented the importance of play in a very balanced manner, they have also offered practical suggestions for regaining one's ability to "play."
I am glad I bought the book, but if specific, practical methods of time management are what you seek, you might want to look at others, instead.
Absolutely the best book for creative/right brain people.......2004-09-14
This is absolutely the best time management book for right brain, creative people like me. I read lots of books and articles on time management, and benefited from many tips. But the fit was never just right. This book addresses monochronic time (linear, clock time), and polychronic time (what creative types deal with). And lots of other key topics that hit home. It answered many questions for me (Why was I always buying some new organizer, or gadget to help me organize myself and my environment? Why could I not just work top-to-bottom on my To Do list?)
I bought my first copy about 8-9 years ago. Now, I am buying my fourth copy, as I keep giving them away to folks like me.
If you are a creative person or right-brain person, you should read this book. If traditional time management techniques don't really "fit" you, you should read this book.
Not recommended.......2004-08-17
This book was not helpful. There is little here that has not been better presented elsewhere. While I liked the first chapter about different styles of time management, knowing this information did little to help me with my own time management issues. Some suggestions even seem silly-such as changing your time management system to suit your mood. Alan Lakein's "How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life" is still the most valuable book on time management out there.
A real eye-opener.......2004-05-16
I thought this book was great. I had the opportunity to hear the author speak years ago and I felt like she was talking to me with her message - both in person and in the book. I'm a very logical person who never felt comfortable organizing in a file-laden, logical way. This book showed me how to use my strengths instead of fighting them.

Book Description
He has a way with women...
Thomas Ashe, the brooding Viscount Blackfield, is a man any lady would shun. But Patience Harrington, try as she might, has never been a proper lady. Her bumbled London season left her with no marital prospects and no recourse but to accept her father's invitation to travel to gloomy Blackfield Castle. Surely, spending a few nights in the presence of priceless antiques and a devilish viscount can't be as bad as facing the ton gossip.
Focused solely on his secret government project, Thomas cares little for the valuable antiques he's recently inherited. The troublesome young woman who has come to assess them, however, stirs his senses in every way. Patience is a distraction Thomas can ill afford – a beautiful temptation that makes him ache with desire. For a spy is threatening to destroy all he has built, and Patience is hiding something. With so much at stake, Thomas must do whatever it takes to seduce the truth from Patience's lips before lives – and his own heart – are lost.

COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.......2006-11-05
The story line was interesting, but the characters left a lot to be desired. It just dragged on without much meaning or romance.
I could barely get to the end fast enough.
BORING.......2006-06-28
I read romance to escape like everyone else the drudgery that which is the everyday. Boy, was I disappointed, sorry but she is definitely not a skilled writer because the characters were 1 demensional and plot and dialogue so cliche I was fighting to stay awake. And the sensual scenes? What sensual scenes??? No romance, no plot, and no sensuality.
Sweet Romance.......2006-06-01
I love Anne Mallory novels and this one had the mix of romance and mystery. It was a little less steamy but I loved the social lessons. The main female character goes to the Viscounts castle to collect items for the museum with team of specialist. She hears rumors about a 'monster' so she starts investigating and the Viscount thinks she is a spy! Sparks fly - Enjoy.
Wanted to give it 5.......2006-04-03
I wanted this book to be a 5 star one, but little things kept it from being that for me. I loved the story and, as always, the writer got the hero right. Thomas was everything a romance novel hero should be. Patience, the heroine, fared a little worse. I lost some patience with her. At times, she bordered dangerously close to TSTL territory for me. I found her social blunders a little monotonous. She surely should have known what to say and how to behave. Just a minor quibble, but it did bother me. Also, things seemed a bit rushed. Just when Thomas and Patience seemed to be getting somewhere, poof!, the scene was over. I felt the transitions were a bit rough. All in all, I liked this book, but felt the characters were not developed as much as they should have been, and the pacing seemed a little off. It was sort of like--Gothic Light.
fun gothic historical romance .......2006-03-29
Patience Harrington has never been able to behave to the standard of the Ton. So when she fumbles her Season, Patience is left with one option offered by her father. She is to visit ominous Blackfield Castle to appraise and catalogue the antiques.
Viscount Blackfield, Thomas Ashe, does not want any visitors especially one as distracting as the lovely Patience even for a few nights. He wants her to leave, but she refuses insisting she will first finish her task of assessing the antiques he inherited even though he does not seem to care about anything except brooding and glaring at her. In reality, Thomas struggles to stay focused on uncovering who endangers so many lives. Still for the first time since he became a spy, Thomas is unable to keep alert and concentrate on his inquiries as he desires Patience who he believes has been sent by his enemy to spy on him. Perhaps he can kiss the truth out of her lips.
This is a fun gothic historical romance that uses amusing scenarios to refresh and lighten the usual serious tone of the sub-genre. Thomas is out of patience with his desire that he fears hides his unwanted guest's nefarious activities while Patience ponders whether her host is the Frankenstein monster. Fans will enjoy this gender war starring two terrific combatants who misconceive everything about the other except love.

Something new and quirky.......2007-08-27
The hero and heroine in this book are not your usual party hopping regency ton folk. And for that alone, I could love it. But it was also a well written love story. Sometimes when authors try to do something a little outside the norm, it reads like they did it just to be different. This book is not like that. It's outside the norm because the characters demand it, and so it works. Despite being a 2nd book in a trilogy, this was a good read and didn't require the first book to be enjoyable.
2nd book in the Three Sisters Trilogy.......2007-05-30
Ways to Be Wicked by Julie Anne Long tells the story how three sisters get seperated from their mother and are seperated and adopted. 17 years later the sisters start try to solve the mystery of their father's murder and to find each other. This is Sylvie story is the ballerina from Paris who set off to find her sister in England. On her ways she is robbed and finds herself working in sexy theater for the handsome Tom Shaughnessy. Lot of great twists and turns - loved the characters. Check out the whole series; Beauty and the Spy (1), Ways to be Wicked (2) and The Secret to Seduction (3).
Fantastic Regency Romance.......2007-02-20
I am getting mightily sick of regency romances that are all about balls and Lords. Julie Anne Long has written a book. A few things.
1. Her writing is spectacular. There are very few writers out there who write as well as she did. There were some times when I sat back and just admired what she did with her sentences, because they were so fabulously put together.
2. Her characters are smart, and the detail is amazing. Sylvie Lamoreaux is a ballerina, and it shows. She feels like the ballerina I knew, the one who thought music was everything. She's a dancer--it's so in her blood she can't stop.
3. She manages to get the right hint of emotion in there. There's a point in there that has to do with a little pirate hat that just really twangs the heart strings. Once again, the details are wonderful.
4. There's actual character growth. Sylvie starts to take control of her own life. Tom starts caring about others. The General--well, The General takes his own back.
5. And to top it all off, it's funny as all get out. The scene where Sylvie meets "The General" is one of the funniest things I've read. I read up to that point in the bookstore, started cackling madly, and knew I was taking this book home with me because there was No Way On Earth that I could do without it.
This is probably the best book I've read in the last few months, and I'm a very picky reader.
Loved, loved, loved the dialogue.......2006-11-03
I picked this book up on a whim despite the cover and the fact that I had never heard of the writer. I read the first page standing in the bookstore and started laughing. Hoping the writer could maintain the promise of that first page, I bought the book. And was rewarded.
The story - Sylvie, a prima ballerina in Paris discovers evidence that she may not be an orphan after all, and takes off to search for family in England where - oh, happy day - she encounters devastating Tom Shaughnessy, himself an orphan who grew up the hard way and found success as the impressario of a bawdy theatre. From the moment Sylvie lands literally in Tom's lap, the the weilding of wits and the melting of hearts begins.
The characters are engaging, the plot interesting and the dialogue outstanding. I laughed aloud reading this book and, at one point, said aloud, "I love these people." Regency purists will notice errors and there are a few loose ends and plot holes; hence the four rather than five stars. However, I will definitely hunt up Ms. Long's other books and anticipate enjoying them hugely.
What Happened?.......2006-10-31
I was looking forward to this book because Sylvie was the more vibrant sister, but sadly, there are too many things I found disappointing in this book, that make me skeptical about Ms. Long's writing again.
Sylvie and Tom just seem so blah compared to Susannah and Kit. I also seem to be comparing most self-made hero characters to Derek Craven so Tom was really not up to par. Sylvie though older and not an aristocrat seem to fit more of the idiotic young heroine mold than her sister Susannah.
There are also a number to loose ends in the story, what happened to the charges against Tom, there are not a lot of hints or clues about Sabrina, nothing about Anne Holt, their mother, and when Sylvie gets to England, she gets stuck as a chorus line girl(Was she not a prima ballerina?). This quite annoyed me a lot. I did like the descriptions of the theater and the 2ndary characters from it which is why this is a 2 star instead of a one. I will be wary now about the third book and hope Ms. Long writes it so much better.

Book Description
Two thousand years after the fact, new light is shed on Christ's hidden life as an initiate in the mystical society of the Essene Brotherhood. In the first English-language edition of the European bestseller, Anne and Daniel Meurois-Givaudan describe the way of life in the Essene communities of first-century Palestine. Through direct revelation, the authors received--over a two-year period--detailed knowledge of the Essene teachings and their role in preparing Christ for his mission. At once unpretentious and astonishing, this beautifully written and evocative story lucidly recreates the life and personality of Christ and his role in the spiritual development of humankind.
Since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, questions continue to arise as to the identity of the Essenes and what role they might have played in the life of Jesus. This account complements the gospels, clarifying and enlarging upon mysterious parts of the record--including Christ's mystical and metaphysical teachings of Essene techniques for spiritual advancement. The authors’ retelling of the Passion of Christ and its aftermath is an extraordinary account that may forever reshape our understanding of these biblical events.

More Than a Novel.......2006-05-14
I thought this book finally gave me a real sense of who Master Jesus was and how he related to his disciples. The passages where Jesus Christ spoke are poetic and truly sound like they come from the heart. This book has taken a place in my permanent collection so that I can read the inspiring passages again.
Informative as Well as Fascinating......................2005-08-14
This book was a surprise to me. I wasn't sure I would like it, but it was so interesting I devoured it quickly. I learned alot, especially since I have never heard of the Essenes until this book !!! I absolutely recommend it, particularly if you are interested in the early days of Jesus' life and the story of the Essenes. Very very interesting !
Interesting read, but falls a bit short.......2004-07-13
I enjoyed reading this book, but I was a bit disappointed that more wasn't written about Jesus and his family. It is written here that the Master's mother was of some high order, but it doesn't go into further detail. There is also not much mention of his father. They also discuss many prayers and meditations of the Essenes, learned at the KRML, but don't go very far to describe any of them.
All in all- a good read that leaves me wanting to read more.
Very disappointing.......2002-04-22
Another supposed recollection of the life of Christ based on the Akashic records. This book has very little about the philosophy of the Essenes and even less about the life of Christ. Based on the little amount of the speaking of Christ in this book, the title is very misleading. It is really a fictional account of a boy who is trained in the ways of the Essenes and later becomes a disciple of Christ. While there is some good spiritual imagery painted from time to time for the most part the book is drab and unconvincing.
Little, if anything, of the knowledge held by the Essenes has survived till today. It is even in doubt how much, if any, contact Jesus has with the Essenes. Slightly (only slightly) more realistic are the works of Edmond Bordeaux Szekely. More convincing accounts of Christs life based on Akashic records are found in The Aquarian Gospel Of Jesus The Christ by Levi H. Dowling.
Interesting and Thought provoking.......2002-03-21
I found this to be an interesting and thought provoking book. However, I think the reviewers of this book overdid it. I didn't find this book to be the end all of information about Christ and his life. I didn't find this book to be the most spiritually provoking book. It is just that- a very interesting and thought provoking book.

Read it!!.......2006-05-08
Just last year, I wrote a letter to Anne Mazer and she told me that she's going to write at least 24 books about Abby Hayes and now I definetly want to read all her books. "That's The Way The Cookie Crumbles," is one of her newest books. Abby bakes cookies for the "The Daisy," which is the report/news group for the Susan B. Anthony school. When everyone tasted her cookies, they loved it and wanted more of her cookies. Then one of the teachers told her there is a Summer Writing Camp, Abby wants to sign up but when she asks her parents they said no because of writing camp costs too much money. Abby gets an idea, she decides that she's going to sell her cookies at school and it was a great idea. The cookies were selling like crazy but then Abby found out that selling cookies is not allowed on school property or in the school. This leads to serious trouble because Abby gets caught by the principle, Dr. Trane and has detention.
This book is excellent!.......2006-02-07
I love this book. Although I'm upset that Abby Hayes would break school rules on purpose just for money, the rest is very good. If you're an Abby Hayes fan or you just heard about the series, you will love this book. I highly recommend this book.

Exciting.......2007-07-05
I am very excited about this book as I am a music teacher always looking for new things. Although I haven't yet incorporated this in my classes I cannot wait to start as the ideas in this book has given me renewed enthusiasm and I feel energised again.
Fantastic book - with a great music CD .......2007-03-05
This book and the music CD is a staple at our house. My daughter has loved all the music since she was under 1, and now she is 2 and still asks to listen to it. My daughter started signing at 7 months and knew more than 25 signs at a year old.... and I owe it all to the Sing and Sign program. It is fantastic! You can't go wrong with this book... especially since it also has a great music CD to listen to anytime.
Perfect for the classroom and at home!.......2007-01-09
I am a music therapist in Kansas City and also a mom to a 3 year old and 1 year old. This book gets as much use in the classroom as it does at home!
I teach special needs children ages 3-12 and I have used this book and the accompanying recording in all my classes. Several teachers have purchased the book themselves! My own children love the songs and and the signs. I get frequent requests at school and at home for the Baby Sing and Sign!
Baby Signs are Great!.......2007-01-07
I was lucky enough to take this author's class with my son in KC. After a few months of signing to him, he began signing nonstop around age 11 months. It helped immensely to reduce his frustration (and mine!) in communicating his needs and wants. He learned new signs quickly and his vocabulary/recognition of new objects grew immensely in the months to follow. Now that he is 2, his verbal skills are highly advanced (he speaks very clearly and can compose complex sentences), and I firmly believe this is due to the strong language base he started with the signing programs.
The songs and games in this book are still some of his favorites! Glad to see this great resource is available to parents everywhere! Thanks Anne!
Love Baby Sing and Sign!.......2007-01-07
This book and cd are wonderful! The cd has so many good songs. Not only is the music fun, but the book has great age-appropriate language activites to go along with the songs. (As a former teacher, I loved that reinforcement!) Our daughter especially liked the homemade picture books we made to reinforce the signs. It was so awesome to be able to communicate with our daughter before she could talk. She is almost three now and even though we don't need to sign anymore, she'll start signing when she hears the songs. I highly recommend this book and cdl!
