Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Could not put it down!.......2007-05-02

I picked this book up, read for an hour, and tried, in vain, to stop reading, and get some rest. Needless to say, it didn't work, and for the next hour and a half I read, until I had finished the book.

For anyone who was disappointed by Sons of Destiny (from the Cirque Du Freak series) and The Demon Theif (I know I was), this should be a relief. Not only does Shan write an a more compelling story than the last one, but he finally seems to have lightened up a bit. I know that seriousness was necessary for the end of the Cirque Du Freak series, and for the last book, narrated by another character (I won't say who, just for anyone who hasn't read it yet), but it was still nice to see Grubbs back, as sarcastic and witty as ever.

Pretty much, when something goes terribly wrong on the set of Grubb's favorite horror movie director's newest set, he, Dervish, and Bill-E are forced to confront Lord Loss once again. It sounds cliched, and like it shouldn't be good at all. Trust me on this one; it is.

While only the last chapter or so (seemingly) has anything to do with the rest of the series, this was still a good read. Definitely lighter than the last few by Shan (they have the potential to get dark, if not for the almost unfailing sarcasm of his main-characters) and also better woven, with (a few) twists and turns in the plot, this is definitely a good read.

Grubbs Grady's favorite horror movie director comes to town to invite him and his uncle Deverish to be on set of her new horror movie. It ends up that they are all tricked onto the set and cannot get out. Lord Loss, a rival demon, slaughters everyone. But following a big fight Grubbs and his uncle escape with lucky survivors.

If you read the other two books of the Demonata, this one isn't good. You learn nothing, it's just a intermezzo i think. You are back whit Grubbs as your narrator, and if you couldn't adapt to Kernel, the one in the second book, this is a releafe! I allmost feared, i'ld have to cope whit another narrator, but i'm glad where back at Grubbs.

The story is built up quite nice, but like the other two books, VERY slow. You have 150 pages about a film set, Grubbs' fears, etc. etc... But once the action starts, you can't stop reading. But you have to because the book ends when there was a lot of open space to kill some main caracters, which i want dead! Not to be cruel, but Mr. Shan has missed a lot of oppurtunities in this book.

This 2-in-1 is volumes three and four in Asprin's hit Myth series. Both are great stories and great books. Myth Directions deals with the game the gang plays in order to win the Trophy (...Tanda...). And Hit or Myth is truly hilarious as Skeeve has to pretend to be the king and avoid marriage. These are great books.

I've just picked this series up again after having read it about 15 years ago. I do have to admit that it was more enjoyable when I was in high school, and being as that I can recommend it more to teens than to more sophisticated readers. This second collection of two Myth books is a decent enough follow up to the first installment and continues the dimension hopping antics of Skeeve and Aahz. The supposedly zany adventures aren't quite madcap enough, though and all in all they actually seem rather tame by modern fantasy standards.

The oddball group of characters is interesting enough, although by these books it seems as if everyone seems to already know one another from somewhere else (pretty small multiple dimension, huh?). Asprin still over explains character motivation and wraps up the loose ends he creates waaaaay too quickly continuing the forced nature of the climaxes as were in the first two books.

Overall this is good harmless light reading, but unless you really liked the characters from the first two books I wouldn't really recommend it. I breezed through this volume rather briskly, but ultimately wasn't really looking forward to reading the next installation that I had already purchased.

THE Argento book.......2006-10-23

PROFONDO ARGENTO is the second book I have ever bought from FAB Press. The first was ART OF DARKNESS: THE CINEMA OF DARIO ARGENTO which, to say the least, was a disappointment. A beautiful but empty pseudo-anyalis of the filmmaker's career, ART OF DARKNESS was about as stale and lifeless as any film book you'll ever encounter. It seems this problem has plagued a lot of the other tomes in the FAB Press line-up: BEYOND TERROR, their Lucio Fulci book, has also been cited as something of a waste. But PROFONDO, thankfully, trumps both of them and turns out to be one of the best, most invigorating studies of a cult filmmaker ever published.

The reason is simple: British author Alan Jones has spent the past twenty-five years or so working with Argento himself. He has been on the film sets of virtually all of the man's post-PHENOMENA films, and has access to rare behind-the-scenes info, opinions, and interviews that no one else would. Whereas Stephen Thrower felt merely content to sit in his room and type up 350 pages of heartless dross and call it a book, Jones actually has something to SHOW us. Simply put, any Argento fan cannot go without this book. Unless the director himself writes it, there will never be a better book about his career.

Features chapters dedicated to each of the man's movies up to NON HO SONNO (SLEEPLESS), interviews with cast and crew (and Argento himself), behind-the-scenes photos, color artwork, and brief sections on Argento contemporaries like Asia, Michele Soavi, etc. The only thing it doesn't have is information on the man's childhood, etc.

Profondo Sycophancy!.......2006-07-01

Despite the popularity of horror throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's and its acceptance by academia and critics as a valid form of cinematic expression, it is astonishing that there has been so few books about Italian director Dario Argento. The first serious study was by Maitland McDonagh in 1994's BROKEN MIRRORS, BROKEN MINDS. This was followed in 2003 by ART OF DARKNESS edited by Chris Gallant. If you're looking for books that explore the deeper themes of Argento's work then I would recommend both of these over Alan Jones' PROFONDO ARGENTO. Jones' effort is perfectly usable, but lacks the sophistication and thematic depth of the other two. The book also suffers from an irritating degree of sycophancy, which comes from Jones' well documented friendship with Argento. This is all very good, but why do we need to know about it? Far too much of this book is anecdotal, which detracts both from the enjoyment and any objective critical stance. In compensation though, as one would expect from FAB PRESS, the book is attractively illustrated. Many of the photos come from Jones' personal collection, and for this he should be commended. There is certainly enthusiasm here and one can tell that for Jones it was a labour of love, and on occasion the prose is exciting and imaginative.

As an introduction to Argento's cinema I would recommend PROFONDO ARGENTO as your first port of call (having made sure you have watched all the available films of course), compared to the other two major works on him, it is light, entertaining and readable. But be warned, in this book the story of Argento's cinema is also the story of Alan Jones, and I for one am certainly not interested in the latter.

A must-read for Dario Argento fans.......2006-03-04

If there is one valid complaint to be made about this book it is that there is too much information presented within its pages. Argento fans know there is no such thing as "too much information" when it comes to the master of Italian film, though.

Interviews, rare photos and lobby cards, film reviews and more are presented in this gorgeous book. If you are an Argento fan and haven't read this, you are truly missing out. There is something for even the most die-hard fanatic to learn.

Beautiful Argento book by a fan for the fans........2005-06-09

All Argento fans can rejoice with the publication of Alan Jones' book Profondo Argento: The Man, The Myth And the Magic. Everything a fan(or newcomer)wanted to know about Dario Argento's work(films, reviews, interviews, articles, etc.) is practically here. It is extremely well researched, with lots of interviews and articles, and it is profusely illustrated with images, posters and people associated with Argento's work and world. The best thing is that the book is pretty much up to date, covering Argento's latest giallo "The Card Player." This book is definitely a work of love by a fan for the fans and I find myself always referring to it quite frequently. A true delight well worth for the price. I highly recommend it.

What do you get for a wisearse demon magician?

This is the problem that Skeeve and Tanda the Trollop have to deal with, and of course it involves a whacky tour all over places-that-are-not-there to try and find something that they think is suitable, and actually get to bring it back. I think there might even be a college football satire in this one.

Myth Directions is a Skeeve and Aahz story in the Myth series. Those who know about this series can appreciate that this is a new adventure for the demon and his human apprentice. This time, Skeeve is drafted to assist Tanda (a voluptous female assassin) in searching out a special "something". The "something" turns out to be a gift for Aahz. Tanda and Skeeve endure various adventures as they look through the various dimensions until they get to a special place with a very ugly statue which catches their fancy.

Well, it's not that the statue catches their fancy so much as what it symbolizes. You see, on this planet, there is a contest waged annually in which the winner gets to keep the trophy and by having it are deemed to be the rulers of the planet. This has been their system of government for over five hundred years! This works extremely well since there are only two cities on the planet (Ta-Hoe and Veygas).

In typical Myth fashion, the experienced Tanda and Aahz manage to get into all kinds of scrapes while Skeeve, the apprentice, manages to bail them both out as well as keep the rest of the menagerie intact through his warmth and common sense. The major part of this slim book is devoted to the various misadventures of the crew as they discover how to steal the statue, and then extricate each other from the uncommon messes they manage to get into.

The repartee between Skeeve, the medieval yokel with common sense and a warm heart, and Aahz, the cynical, 20th century sounding demon is funny as usual. Asprin brings back some of the characters we have grown to love in previous books like Gleep, Hugh Battleaxe and Gus; He also resurrects Quigley for a command appearance; and introduces us to some new characters that will likely become regulars. Of particular note is Chumley the troll who is Tanda's big brother. You see, Tanda is a Trollop (of course!!!)

The madcap adventures are completely unbelievable and the situations our heroes find themselves in seem terminal, but all's well that ends well and I put down the book with a satisfied grin on my face.

The only two negative comments I can make is that the cover illustration has nothing whatsoever to do with the story, and that the book is very short (or, is that a comment on how much I liked it?) so that I read the whole thing in what seemed like no time at all.

Myths.......2003-03-07

Myth Directions by Robert Aspirin. There were a lot of interesting things that I liked about this book. One was how the author depicted the features of each of the characters. These characters aren't like your normal everyday people. They are from a fantasy world that exist in you imagination. While Skeeve is your average normal boy, Aahz and Tanada are demons from some other dimension. Another of Aahz's friend is a troll, "While I had never seen a troll before, I knew that this as one.", P.133 and Gus who is a gargoyle.
In this book there are a lot of themes that the author develops. One is that there are a wide variety of adventures and new places to experience. Not just the ordinary day to day things that people expereince. The other is that people can get along with others that are different from them. I agree with each of these messages.
I would definitely recommend this book because it challenges you to think beyond your every day thoughts. This book will fill your mind with new kinds of characters and thoughts that will make you realize this is indeed a world expanded by your growing imagination.

Birthday presents and making fun of Towns.......2002-06-08

I loved the book, but the part about the Blue and Yellow Paper freaks made me think on the second read. Near where I live there's a University where I guess you could say that there are tons of Blue and Yellow Paper freaks, just try to do anything on a game day and you'll be stuck in traffic. (If you know anything about College colors you'll find that Michigan has both "towns" that are used in the book, the Red and White of MSU and the Blue and Yellow of U of M) I happen to love Dragons. Gleeep!
