Book Description

To Humbolt's surprise, Schwimer has much different news. "I have just returned from the Cascades and believe I have found the missing link." There is a pause at Humbolt's end. Schwimer softly shouts, "Did you hear me, Humbolt?"

When a new creature is discovered in Washington State's Cascade Mountains, adversaries Arthur Schwimer, an evolutionist, and Gary Humbolt, a creationist, join forces in a common quest to determine the scientific veracity of the latest discovery of the so-called missing link between ape and man.

A sophisticated research facility is set up in the remote section of the forest where the creatures live. The substantiation of Darwin's theory- and the possible demise of the world's most established religions-rest on the results. But after the analysis begins, three members of the study group are mysteriously killed. Judith Moses, Humbolt's assistant, wades through the perplexing clues, desperately seeking answers before the seemingly indisputable research can be presented to the public. Have the researchers indeed discovered the missing link, or have they been duped by a marvel of genetic engineering?

Creationists to the extreme right and Darwinists to the extreme left; if you find these views of how humans came into being too extreme or simplistic, and enjoy well crafted science fiction stories, then Missing Link will be worth your while.

5 out of 5 stars Great book. Thought provoking........2007-04-02

Missing Link pursues the question of "Why are we here" with murder, mytery and intrigue. This is a short science fiction thriller that is worth reading.

Whether you believe in the Creator, Darwin or both, you'll find Missing Link missing very little. A page burning mystery that can be consumed in a few hours. A great companion for a cross-country flight or while stuck in an airport.

Book Description

Dr. Geoffrey Simmons focuses on the millions of structures and systems on the Earth that came about all at once, entire...with no preceding links, no subsequent links, no “sideways” links.

To illustrate, he surveys examples like...

It’s clear: Nature contains only leaps, not links. Only the intelligence and purpose of an all–powerful Designer can explain the intricate creatures, connections, and “coincidences” everywhere.

Excellent for students and parents, especially homeschoolers, and for educators who want to present the “full picture.”

5 out of 5 stars ID light- an honest review.......2007-10-05

I call this ID light because its not as in youre face as some of the other ID literature. I don't think someone who is against ID would be compelled to change their minds after reading this book. If you are an evolutionist, I think you should still find some beauty in this book, and not think of this as a direct insult on youre intelligence. This is a book filled with all kinds in neat facts that I think everyone can enjoy. Yes he clearly promotes ID, but he says you be the judge, could this model fit in with a design or do you think evolution has a better explination?

What really sold me on this book was scamming through it in the book store. I didn't even really want to buy it till I flipped through. It seems almost every sentence has something interesting. For example I just opend it to get a random quote and here it goes on page 212 about halfway down the page states "The bristle millipede is covered with tiny tufts and rows of velcro-like bristles that easily detach when the insect is attacked." Not that its the best part or anything, but I hope you can see how this book reads.

My overall favorite part is about ratios and symmetry. The fibonacci sequence is incredible! The bodys symmetry, The body mass and blood volume in mammals are intricately related. Even the heart size is dependant on the animal. There were better facts than that, but thats what sticks out currently in my mind. Sounds to me like a design! Like I said before, that may not convince you, but these are great facts and a fun read!

3 out of 5 stars 3 stars.......2007-05-20

*** Could the universe have come into existence by chance? That is what proponnants of atheistic evolution would have us believe. However, after reading the evidence presented in this book, such conclusions should seem to not have a chance to anyone with a reasonable mind. Though little is said about God, the evidence is laid out in such a way as to show that there had to be design, hence a Designer, orchestrating life. Beyond making that case, a variety of fascinating, little known facts are rendered that will enlarge your acumen, even if you never have the need to engage in a debate over evolution vs. intelligent design or creation. ***

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book.......2007-05-07

It just helps to demonstrate that it takes a bigger leap of faith for evolution than for a creator God.

2 out of 5 stars Same old rhetoric........2007-05-03

Same old , same old. X can't be explained..........YET, therefore "GOD", the biggest assumption of all which doesn't EXPLAIN ANYTHING. And of course we all know this means the christian god as opposed to the thousands of other "GODS" throughout history. Same old "god of the gaps" arguement. Sorry, but that does not follow.
Evolution is an established fact of life, if you don't believe it, then I suggest you quit taking antibiotics along with using or eating domesticated animals for food, work, and or companionship. According to this book scientist should just throw in the towel and fling their hands collectively in the air and say "WE QUIT!". I suppose that should have been done before Copernicus,Kepler,Newton,Lavousier,Faraday,John Clerk Maxwell,Crick and Watson,Einstein etc made their discoveries. Utter nonsense. One assumption after another regarding nature and the cosmos has been toppled like sandcastles. The skeletetal backbone (no pun intended) and general principles have been quite established in evolutionary biology. Anybody with an inkling of reading regaring the sciences realizes all the emperical evidence for evolution is quite firm. These disciplines include, molecular biology, comparitve genome studies, physics, geology, paleoanthropology, paleontology, comparitive anatomy etc etc etc. The book has nice pictures though.

5 out of 5 stars A Pleasure to Read.......2007-04-11

This book puts forth some very interesting trivial information about many animals that is often left out in the biology classroom in order to teach other information. Did you know the pupil of your eyes and the tip of your nose forms an equalateral triangle? The tip of you nose forms another one with the edge of your lips? That a square exists between your pupils and your lips' edge? In fact your body contains many such wonders. The belly button is the exact center of a circle that you can make with your body. Design or Chance....interesting.

The forethought and first chapter were very nice to read. The forethought basically said if you've convinced the miracle of birth and the beauty of it.. came about by trial and error... you might as well stop reading now. Birth is so amazing I think anyone will be struck with awe when reading his description of birth. However; Even if your a staunch evolutionist I think you would still like this book very much, I would encourage you to read it, even if you disagree with his view point you'll love the information. It contains alot of information that teachers/professors should talk about in class since it will keep students interested. I am a biology undergraduate and some of his book actually went over some of the things we were learning in university study, but put forth simply enough that anyone with no biology backround could unnderstand it. It presented the information in a fresh way to me, which was nice.

I thought his first chapter was great because I think many scientists (ID theorists and Neo-Darwinists) forget exactly what the scientific method is all about. It was designed to eliminate bias. I agreed with his suggestion that the scientific method should the foundation of biology not a philosophical theory like evolution by natural selection. Why? The scientific method begins with "observation". With that being said and to be fair he says the same flaw is found in the Intelligent Design and Evolutionary arguments alike. If you look into it you would be surprised how much of the whole molecules to man theory has never been observed its pure conjecture. Simmons says there could be some problems with the scientific method as the cornerstone of science, but they could easily be resolved.

Many people constantly say that ID theory says it is so complex that it could not have been designed. That is not true. In the first chapter he says ID says that life is natural systems that cannot be explained by natural forces, yet in any other circumstance would naturally be attriubted to design. Such a good definition. Why is it not attributed to design? Some people have a hard time comprehending something made them I guess. The same way other people cannot imagine that unintelligent processes made them. I think the first argument is weaker than the latter. The more we know about life he harder time Darwin's theory is having. Simmons also points this out in the first chapter.

Simmions puts forth a good analogy of the ID/Darwinist battle in the opening chapter. Imagine coming up to an oil rig in the ground and you said to your friend wow I wonder who made this, and you friend said "wait no one made this what are you talking about?" You try to convince you friend it was designed... maybe showing him parts that pump oil out of the ground and are needed to make it functional.. if they are not there the rig would not work.. and your friend says well you can't prove who made it...your making dogmatic statements about the existence of oil rigs. Sadly the friend is right you cannot prove someone made it dispite how much you try to convince your friend the oil rig was designed because neither one of you were there to see it so neither know for sure was that it was made. Darwin's challenge to his theory which was "if something could be shown to have not developed through slow steps my theory would absolutly break down". It certainly has broken down. So now darwinists say it has not broken down but then they themselves put forth unobserved senerios to try to preserve the theory. Big Surprise, evolutionary scientists are humans too all of them have a bias like all humans.

But regadless of your view of biology you will love this book just because its so fun to read. When I was reading I thought the information was great. It was like reading Planet Earth on the Discovery channel instead of seeing it. Simmons shows some amazing facts of the differences in life and what needs to be found for a fully comperhensive theory of evolution to be correct. You will come out of this book having a better appreciation of all life regradless of your views. Read the book

From Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly comes this spoof of all things golf and country club. Missing Links recounts the tale of a coterie of golfing friends who ply their hobby at Ponkoquogue Municipal Golf Links and Deli. An 18-hole garbage dump with hazards that include a concrete river surrounded by a chain-link fence and the pillars of the elevated train that runs through the course, it is reputed to be the worst golf course in America. One day the group inadvertently discovers that all along they've been playing right next door to the Mayflower Club, a true golfing Eden. The rollicking plot includes a bet to see who will be first to sneak in a round at the Mayflower, as well as the narrator's attempts to reach some sort of reasonable understanding with his overbearing father.

Book Description

Missing Links is the story of four middle-class buddies who live outside Boston and for years have been 1) utterly obsessed with golf and 2) a regular foursome at Ponkaquoque Municipal Course and Deli, not so fondly known as Ponky, the single worst golf course in America. Just adjacent to the municipal course lies the Mayflower Country Club, the most exclusive private course in all of Boston and a major thorn in their collective sides. Frustrated by the Mayflower's finely manicured greens and snooty members, three of Ponky's most courageous--Two Down, Dannie, and Stick--set up a bet: $1,000 apiece, and the first man to finagle his way onto the Mayflower takes all.

One of the three will eventually play the course, but their friendships--and everything else--change as various truths unravel and the old Ponky starts looking like the home they never should have left.

4 out of 5 stars Masculine "chick lit"?.......2007-08-09

I had read this book right after reading a popular "chick lit" book and was struck by how similar the plot line was and how different the details were. In both instances, the characters were trying to meet a particular challenge. In Missing Links the challenge was to be the first to play a round in the elite golf course next door, where, I suppose, the grass is greener on the other side.

This book was a perfect choice for summer vacation reading. Quite entertaining and not too taxing. Sprinkled among the details were allusions to local features that someone from the East and older than 40 would remember.

I enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone seeking light reading and entertainment.

2 out of 5 stars Missing More Than Links.......2007-08-03

Wow. I'm really surprised at all the positive reviews of this book. Did we read the same novel? I had to force myself to finish this, and I'm a big Rick Reilly fan. Another page, another recycled joke written a much flatter tone than Reilly normally uses. Maybe if he'd gone with a 3rd person perspective instead of a 1st person I would have been more receptive. As it was, I never really got the sense that this was a real person/character telling this incredibly predictable story. There are some nice touches in this book, notably when he's talking about golfing with his uncle and really developing a passion for the game. But, more than anything, those touches are way too few and far between. Unless I'd recently received some sort of lobotomy, I'd move on to different book.

5 out of 5 stars Great golf literature.......2007-07-21

I haven't been reading many golf books lately, but I think Rick Reilly has just gotten my interest to a whole new level. You have to be patient with the book and forget your expectations, especially for those who aren't versed in Reilly-isms. But by the last few pages you realize what golf has really meant to you all these years and he puts the words to what we usually forget to do: get emotional! A great read, has all the characteristics of a classic golf story. Can't wait to read the sequel!

5 out of 5 stars Great golf amusement and enjoyment!.......2007-07-11

For a long time, I had one favorite golf novel: "Dead Solid Perfect." I bought it in college and laughed so hard while reading it I had tears in my eyes. Since then, I have read scores of golf stories, but none have come close to that level of humor until "Missing Links."

This follows the lives of Ray "Stick" Hart and his buddies at Ponky, the worst course in America, which happens to be next to one of the best and most exclusive clubs in America, the Mayflower. The only chance most Ponky players have of seeing the Mayflower is through the hole in the hedge that separates the two layouts.

From the origins of "the bet" to the conclusion of "the match," this story kept bringing smiles to my face. The ending is perfectly in line with the characters, and as much as I might have hoped for something different, it fits like a golf glove.

Some might see the foul language as a negative, but keep in mind that this is written about a sport that promotes cursing like no other. :)

I highly recommend this book for golf fans, Rick Reilly fans, and just fans of enjoyable light reading! (The sequel is a good read as well.)

5 out of 5 stars Missing Links-The Best.......2006-10-25

This is the funniest, cleverest golf book ever written. Twice I laughed so hard I cried. Unfortunately, it was late at night and the shaking of the bed awoke my wife; she wasn't happy nor did she understand. Rick Reilly is the greatest; rated R

Book Description

This true story of a soul's life after death will change the way you look at A provocative work that makes the case that Jesus taught reincarnation. Using evidence from the Dead Sea Scrolls and Gnostic texts, it argues persuasively that Jesus was a mystic who taught that our destiny is to unite with the God within.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating book!.......2007-08-08

This book is overwhelming. Extremely well written. Random revelations for me: Karma provides the situation, but there is still free will. We can take action today to change our future. Reincarnation provides a way to defend God's justice while defending Old Testament law. Jesus' Sermon on the Mount: "The measure you give will be the measure you get." Jesus said we must come to terms with God while we are alive.
We must pay our karmic debts while we're living. Earth, not hell, is the place of punishment. Resurection occurs while we are alive; the spirit can work out its own salvation. If Jesus had a beginning, and became God's son, then others can also become God's sons. Jesus never said he was the ONLY son of God. How is man saved? By worshipping Jesus, or emulating him? Many Orthodox Christians believe Jesus is a way to escape punishment for sins, not a way to achieve union with God. Moses gradually became divine while on earth.
Jesus taught the kingdom is not a time or a place. Kingdom means the power to rule (inwardly). The path to God is different for each person. You don't have to be perfect to begin the process of divination. Faith, grace and works are a tripod -- each indespensible. Grace is God meeting us half way. He doesn't pick us up and carry us into eternity. Jesus' single sacrifice did not cancel our need to balance our bad karma, over this lifetime, many lifetimes. Paul said: "We need to work out our own salvation."
Orthodox Christianity inflated the power of grace to astronomical proportions. Gnostics saw grace as a boost, a leg up, rather than an elevator ride to the top of the mountain. Jesus rekindles the divine spark in our souls, and we're on our way! Amen!

1 out of 5 stars Effective in a negative way........2007-04-19

This book was only effective in forcing me to seek out any other book on the subject. The history she went over I have no problem with. It is everything else that I find quite annoying. She seems to ignore alternatives to how she interperets scripture and what one person says about reincarnation, being born again, life before this current one, etc.
She also ignores concepts, themes, and issues that today may shed light on the subject. She doesn't address or let the readers know of any other authority on the subject, which to me, makes me that much more skeptical of her credibility and ability to write on the topic.
I feel that I am alone in this and that is fine, each book affects each person differently. I guess I was just looking for more, and the author(s) didn't deliver.

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating and Spiritually Satisfying .......2006-05-05

I was assigned a research paper for my English class and we were permitted to pick whatever topic we wished. Reincarnation is something that has always fascinated me, and since I am a Christian who believes in reincarnation, I decided to write my paper on reincarnation in early Christianity, the Bible, and its revival in modern society. I needed 15 sources, but this book could stand on its own! Prophet discusses historical justification for reincarnation in Christianity as it relates to Jesus' teachings, the Bible, and the Roman Empire. It discusses the lost years of Jesus, and the possibility of him visiting India, and employing mysticism in his teachings. The practicality of reincarnation as she argues it left me spellbound. I was a believer to begin with, but after reading this, I am even more convinced that reincarnation belongs in Christian theology. Did you know there are approximately 28 MILLION Christians who believe in reincarnation? This is only one of the amazing things you will discover if you read this amazing book! Its food for the mind and it quenches the soul that believes there is more out there than our beloved Christianity is telling us! Trust me, it is amazing!

5 out of 5 stars Okay, to all of the skeptics!.......2005-08-14

Well, this book has definitely valitated my belief in reincarnation. The Christianity bible(King David) is WAY to black and white for me. And the whole concept of reincarnation brings forth a better understanding of what the WHOLE meaning of life is. I claim to be a Christian since I strive to emulate Jesus christ. Christ's teachings and his whole persona has always had an impact on me, especially his shed of blood on the cross, I cry almost every Christmas just thinking about it! I still believe he was that "special" person, the son of God, or even God in flesh because of all of his special supernatural powers and gifts that he had. I also have a great open mind to the way other religions practice like Kabbalah and Buddism because mediation, in my opinion, is also a missing link in the "belief" system of christianity. I don't like the fact that they believe it's a form of letting evil spirits come in. So, I love Christ he will always be in my heart, but also accept the way other religions like to practice AND what they believe even though some don't believe he was "the son of GOd" and believe he was just a teacher. I also have great respect for the Buddah too.

5 out of 5 stars Finally relevant!.......2005-08-07

I cannot really add anything to the other positive reviews without being repetitive. One point however, and no small point I believe, is that the book actually makes Jesus relevant to those who have either given up Christianity or, like me, never related to it at all. Christianity without reincarnation simply makes no sense - with it, the pieces fall into place, and Elizabeth Clare Prophet spells out how.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for Web developers.......2003-04-16

In the preface of the book the author states that her main aim in writing the book is to articulate and raise awareness about the Web crisis and then provide a solution in the form of configuration management. The book delivers the goods and fulfills the promises. Configuration management has been around for many years and the author is one of the top experts in the field.
The explosive growth of the Word Wide Web has changed the way software is developed for Internet and WWW. In the case of software development for the Web, the fundamental difference is the time-time to develop, time to change, time to modify and update, time to correct and so on. Configuration management, if not implemented correctly, can increase the response time of a company. But if the organizations ignore the CM principles and do a "quick job", then it can lead to greater disasters.
So how to implement configuration management techniques properly to Web development and deployment has been a problem that has vexed project managers and development teams. This book does an excellent job in telling how to integrate configuration management into the web development efforts of the organization, so that the organization can survive and thrive in this highly competitive internet times by providing its customers, shareholders, employees and so on with up-to-the-minute and accurate information.
The book provides an overview of web development and configuration management before getting down to the business of linking CM and web engineering. This overview provides a good starting point for people who are new to these fields. The chapters "CM tool selection and deployment" and "Cases studies in CM automation of web systems" are excellent and provide practical and surefire strategies and advise for the practitioners. The checklists, templates, questionnaires, etc. add value to the book as they can be readily put to use.
This book is a must read for project managers and development teams who want to consistently succeed in their web development efforts.

2 out of 5 stars Good only to show why you need Configuration Management.......2003-03-03

While this book does a great job of showing the need for change management for web sites, it gets all the implementation details wrong. The main focus is on configuration management for the software portions of the site. While very important, this is a standard problem that has been addressed by a number of version control / configuration management tools. When the book discusses web "content management", it gets it wrong (FrontPage and Dreamweaver are listed as content management tools) and misses the main issues of controlling and coordinating content updates on the site. Large scale web sites have special requirements on content coordination. For example, coordination changes in design of the site, coordination of content in various languages, and change management of database updates are critical to site configuration management and not touched on in this book at all. This appears to be mainly a software configuration management book that added some terminology and checklists for the web. Speaking of checklists, there are configuration management templates described in the books appendix; I was surprised to find the book's CDROM, however, contained only two Powerpoint slide presentations.

5 out of 5 stars Addresses challenges, raises awareness & gives case studies.......2001-05-05

Ms. Dart is a well known expert in configuration management and her a long list of published articles are highly technical in nature. However, this book is not one of her "how to" approaches. Instead, it provides a path towards best practices that are conspicuously missing in most web engineering and web site management endeavors. My own background will add some context to my review. I have developed and implemented policies, processes and procedures for both software configuration management (SCM) and change control for a number of companies. SCM is an application delivery discipline that is key to product integrity and assurance during development and maintenance. Change control is a service delivery discipline that ensures that changes released to the production environment are carefully controlled. In the past the two were the concern of two entirely different domains (development and production), and only companies that had highly mature processes linking problem management, enhancements/bug fixes, SCM and release and production change management bridged the two domains.

The web changed that because cycle times compressed and are driven by business requirements, not technical considerations. The tried and true processes we employed for SCM and change control were barriers to meeting business requirements and something had to give. Unfortunately, what gave was due diligence, which is well illustrated in figures 1.1 through 1.3 in this book. These figures show typical best practice development/maintenance cycle and typical change request process employed in non-web based systems, and the "fix it-publish it-fix" it approach that is too common in web-centric systems. This book provides the middle ground by examining how to implement processes and procedures that provide assurance without the barriers of the traditional approach to processes.

Ms. Dart begins this book with a broad description of web-centric computing and a list of nine major challenges faced by this paradigm. This is foundation material that is more suited to managers, but is also valuable for technical staff who need to see the big picture. She follows this with a description of what CM is. Nothing new here for those of us who have been practitioners, but this may be enlightening material for the bright, young wizards who are geniuses at coding and system integration, but have little-to-no idea about processes. The next chapter, 4, covers tools from a functionality viewpoint. The discussion of evolutionary and full-process tools will help define your tool requirements based on how you manage development and production. She also provides some excellent pointers on how to develop a benefit analysis and determine return on tool investment, which is something the bean counters will want to see considering how expensive most CM tools are. Chapter 5 gives sound advice on selecting and implementing a CM tool. This chapter is especially valuable because of the pointers on managing the RFP and vendor evaluation and selection process. Templates and checklists supporting this process are provided in the appendices.

The heart of this book for the practitioner and newcomer alike is chapter 6, which contains case studies of how major companies are using the more mainstream CM tools (ClearCase, Continuus, PVCS, and the like). This chapter is full of ideas and shows typical challenges faced, and the solutions crafted, to balance the "Internet-time" driven implementations and releases with processes that support assurance and integrity.

This book is high-level and process-oriented. If you are seeking a down-in-the-dirt book on how to implement and manage CM in a web-centric environment look elsewhere. However, if you want sound advice from a credible source about how to determine your requirements and develop processes and select the best tool, then this book provides value. I give it five stars for raising awareness and addressing the thorny problem of balancing traditional CM practices with the realities of web-centric computing cycle times.

1 out of 5 stars Long on generalities, short on detail........2001-04-27

Surprisingly, this book already feels dated as it seems to have emerged from the e-boom. It aims very much at the broad picture as it appeared at that time. It has relatively little to say about the nitty-gritty of what aspects of Web engineering need special consideration in the context of CM.

Disappointing from someone who has written well about CM in the past.

Thanks to Dr. Patricia Fitzgerald for writing her book The Detox Solution. It's full of the answers to the questions I've had about changing my lifestyle for optimum health. I'm so glad this book has found it's way into my life. It's an amazing resource. I've already begun to use some of the suggestions on a daily basis and am already noticing a difference.

5 out of 5 stars A Life Transforming Work of Brilliance.......2007-08-17

Dr. Fitzgerald has provided an amazing book which has allowed me to understand how I can better participate in improving my mind, body, and spirit. What I like a lot about this book is that the author has taken a potentially complex topic like detoxification and made it easy to understand. This is a book that I will refer to time and time again. You can decide to make a few changes or undergo a profound transformation; the possibilities are endless. Unlike some books which make lofty promises and promote the myth that a significant detox program can be done in a week or a few days, The Detox Solution is realistic and helps you to understand that detoxification is about lifestyle choices that can be improved, gently and one at a time. A major part of this book that also helped me is the area that deals with emotional/spiritual stress and how to have a better attitude towards myself and others. As I keep applying the suggestions in this book, I notice my health and well being is improving significantly.

5 out of 5 stars A Very Useful Book!.......2007-06-21

This book is very comprehensive and readable. It also just makes a lot of sense. I was originally interested in the book for it's detox info - which I find very valuable- but I'm really liking its information on general health issues. I definitely recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Turn the page to better health.......2007-04-07

The Detox Solution is essential reading for all who value their health. Dr. Fitzgerald has written a work that is part of the canon of nutritional information. I would rank it along side Balch and Balch's "Nutritional Healing" as a book that can be referred to over and over for answers to the healthful enrichment of life through detoxing. In that we are what we eat, the Detox Solution shows us that we are even better from what we eliminate. Fitzgerald spells out A to Z do's and don'ts and head to toe explanations of the body's systems for optimal health. The key is what she tells to use to help the body is as important as what we must avoid that will hinder it. This is not a populist fad but a proven medical way to health and well being.

One's view of Israel is key in determining one's theology. 5 out of 5 stars Methodical and Complete.......2007-03-18

This over 1000 page volume is the result of a doctoral submission that was originally over 2000 pages. It reads easily and the print is reader friendly. Margins on each page leave room for commentary. The subject matter is thoroughly covered with contrasting views of the author's with fair treatment of differing views. The author is Dispensational, Biblical and of Jewish background writing as a Christian today. If you are looking for the most comprehensive treatment of Israel's past, present and future from a Biblical perspective, you can't do better. His treatment utilizes literal approach to the Bible as opposed to the allegorical approach used so often among liberal Protestantism and others borrowed from and adapted from Early Church writers such as Origen and Augustine. Literalism allows for accuracy while allegorical permits personal interpretation and often misuse of the meaning of plain Scripture. Literalism may seem dry at points but it doesn't sacrifice accuracy for excitement. Allegorical interpretations of Scripture have been the basis, when taken to the extreme, for anti-Semitism over the centuries. This volume avoids that by staying literal and remains faithful to Scripture and history.

5 out of 5 stars A Must for anyone studying the Christian doctrine of Israel.......2006-08-04

Israelology (the theology of Israel) is not a part of a systematic theology course at any major seminary, and Dr. Fruchtenbaum argues that it should be. He examines the doctrine of Israel from each of the major evangelical viewpoints and then gives his own Israelology. Part of his thesis is that an evangelical's Israelology will actually play a MAJOR role in which camp he winds up in. He then proves this point rather nicely. Written from a dispensationalist viewpoint, I naturally enjoyed this book as a dispensationalist. However, written almost thirty years ago (WOW, has it been that long?), it does not even mention the progressive dispensationalism of late, and just casually mentions Dr. Fuller's "New" theology. The author himself seems to hold a few views that are typically thought to be within the progressive camp: New Covenant currently in force, distinguishes between Jews and Gentiles in the church, and views the Church as a non-nation. However, Fruchtenbaum falls well within the traditional dispensational school as a whole.

All-in-all a great book. Pretty long at over 1,000 pages, but the type is very large and set narrowly, so that there are perhaps half as many words on a page as in a comparable volume. Still a heavy read, and definitely not for the novice theologian!

5 out of 5 stars The Missing Link that Solves so Much..........2005-06-27

Simply put, Israelology is the doctrine of Israel. It is what the Bible teaches about Israel...not what many in the Church want to call "Israel."

Most believers have at least some concept of what the Bible teaches about Israel. Unfortunately, however, such understanding is usually limited and somewhat general (if not "fuzzy") since the tendency among believers is to concentrate more heavily on other doctrines. The doctrine of Israel, it seems, is only addressed when it unavoidably intersects with other doctrines of the Bible, but even then the lack of a complete Israelology often leads to ambiguity, if not total error. Indeed, many theological fallacies can be traced to an incomplete, if not a totally inaccurate understanding of the doctrine of Israel. As Dr Fruchtenbaum clearly shows, Israelology is of no minor significance to a proper interpretation of the Bible.

In this work, Dr Fruchtenbaum presents the Israelology of four major theological systems: Covenant Postmillennialism, Covenant Amillennialism, Covenant Premillennialism, and Dispensationalism. He shows how each system's view of Israelology affects biblical interpretation; highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each system where they exist. He finally offers his own dispensational Israelology (which I believe ought to be published on its own, as it is superb in its analysis), effectively developing this doctrine which previous systematic theologies have failed to address completely, if at all.

Included in this work are discussions on:

*** The view of Israel (past, present, and future) in the teaching of the four major theological systems.

*** The Abrahamic, Mosaic, Palestinian (Land), Davidic, and New covenants

*** The Kingdom of God program

*** Israel's rejection of the Messiahship of Yeshua HaMashiach(Jesus) and its results and consequences

*** The relationship between Israel and the Church

*** Romans 9-11 and the Olive Tree, and

*** Anti-Semitism

In addition, appendices of this work include:

*** Discussion of Hebrew Christian / Messianic Jewish practice (in which he accurately and definitively critiques Daniel Juster's "Jewish Roots," its numerous failings and misunderstandings of both Scripture and Dispensationalism. Also, he answers clearly Juster's desire (and misuse of Scripture in this effort) that the Law of Moses still be in effect in "An Interchange on the Law of Moses and the Congregation." Juster's Theses are thoroughly and Scripturally answered/refuted. By doing so, Dr Fruchtenbaum in no way compromises his identity as a Jew who believes that Yeshua HaMashich (Jesus) is the Messiah, and actually brings to light Juster's identity crisis between the Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenants.

*** In Appendix 3 Dr Fruchtenbaum effectively answers critics about whether Jews should start their own Congregations. Many in the Church wish they would assimilate into Church traditions without any thought of their Jewish culture and its direct connection to the praise of our Lord.

*** Also included is a survey of the Hebrew Christian / Messianic Jewish epistles (Hebrews, James, 1 & 2 Peter, and Jude), which is now being published as its own book in Ariel's Bible Commentary.

An outstanding resource, Israelology presents a clear, comprehensive systematization of the doctrine of Israel; past, present, and future. This "groundbreaking" work is a must-read for all serious students of the Bible. I believe it is necessary reading for anyone who has a heart for Israel, and a heart for the salvation of Israel.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible depth.......2005-01-27

This book, written by a man that was formerly an Orthodox Jew and memorized the entire Jewish Scriptures and now the Christian scriptures, provides a deep intellectual and spiritual perspective that is unequaled. It transcends the historical stripping of the Jewishness in Christianity and makes a significant contribution to Systematic Theology. This book has the potential to impact the church in historical proportions. It has more depth and solid theological thinking than anyone can provide for the ideas of replacement theology.

1 out of 5 stars A HERESY THAT NEVER DIES!.......2005-01-04

I'm not a heresy hunter, but it surprises me to find someone using the Apostle Paul to advocate the one heresy that Paul spent more time contending against than all others combined. Throughout ISRAEOLOGY, Fruchtenbaum advocates the old heresy that Jewish Christians retain a special place in Christ's kingdom over others. (That was why Gentiles wanted to be circumized or to participate in Jewish religious rites because then they could enter the household of Abraham and have that same higher privilege.)

Fruchtenbaum's primary theme is the idea that the land of Israel belongs to Jews -- and eventually only to Christian Jews -- because God has promised it to them as a birthright. He argues throughout that only the SPIRITUAL promises made to Abraham passed on to Christians (eternal life), while the physical promise (of the land) remains a promise conveyed by blood rights to natural Jews.

Fruchtenbaum's opinion is hugely destructive to the work of Christ in uniting Jews and Gentiles, and I could argue against it from many scriptures; but I'll use just one from Paul in Ephesians 2:12ff. Paul specifically addresses GENTILES and writes, "Rembember that AT THAT TIME [before you had faith in Christ] YOU WERE separate from Christ, EXCLUDED FROM CITIZENSHIP IN ISRAEL and foreigners to the covenantS of the promise.... But now in Christ Jesus you who were once far away have been brought near.... CONSEQUENTLY, YOU ARE NO LONGER FOREIGNERS [to Israel] and aliens, BUT FELLOW CITIZENS...."

Paul spent his whole career arguing against recurring heresies like Fruchtenbaum's, which always tried, by one means or another, to cling to A LITTLE SOMETHING SPECIAL for people who were Jewish. In Fruchtenbaum's case, that something special is that Jews have citizenship in the Land of Israel, and Gentiles do not, even if they are Christian. Clearly Paul says the exact opposite above, when he notes that "at that time"(prior to their faith in Christ), Gentiles did not have "citizenship in Israel," but adds that now they are "FELLOW citizens."

Fruchtenbaum argues throughout his book that God will continue to give Jews a little more distinction than Gentile Christians because theirs is the capitol of God's kingdom. Paul hated that recurring heresy and constantly battled to show that Gentiles have EXACTLY the same citizenship "in Israel" (and in God's kingdom) as Jews.

Fruchtenbaum argues that Gentiles do not receive through Christ all that was promised through the covenants God made with Abraham, but Paul argues that they do. Notice in the verses above, Paul uses the plural "covenantS." ALL OF GOD'S COVENANTS ARE BROUGHT TOGETHER IN CHRIST FOR ALL WHO BELIEVE IN CHRIST. That's why Paul also says in this chapter that Christ "has made the two [Jews and Gentiles] one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.... His purpose was to create in himself ONE new man out of the two, thus making peace...."

We will never have peace in Israel, so long as Jews maintain the land is theirs by birthright. There is NO special covenant that remains for Jews alone. ALL of the covenants God made with his people were given to his one seed, Jesus, who was a Jew (and, therefore, the convenants were literally fufilled), and are handed through that Jew as an inheritance to all who believe in him. (After all, if the land is Jesus' inheretance, then he alone can do with it as he wishes.) Yet, there are always some Jews like Fruchtenbaum who want to retain a slight edge over others, and what bitter hostility that separateness (no matter how fine the dividing line) creates.

Why is this crucial today? Fruchtenbaum's theology lies at the heart of war in Israel -- the idea that Jews deserve the land BECAUSE THEY ARE JEWS. Paul's theology, on the other hand, says that God opened up all of the covenantS he had made with Israel to make them accessible to Gentiles, too, including "citizenship in Israel." (I'm quoting Paul.) Nothing has been taken away from the Jews because they can still be a part of Israel through faith in Christ, the heir to the covenants, but they have no blood rights to the land or anything else. That's why Jesus said, "Who are my mother and brothers?" and then said his mother and brothers were those who followed him, not those who held that role by blood rights. The covenantS go to those who have the faith of Abraham, not the blood of Abraham, for, as Jesus said, "God can raise up children of Abraham from these stones" if he wishes.

Any kind of "fundamentalism" that preserves a fine but significant barrier between Jewish Christians and Gentile Christians (or Jews in general and Gentiles in general) serves to maintain the strife in Israel. You cannot have the promised land without accepting the promised king, for it is his alone to give. Those who fight over it as a blood right, will spill their own blood and die by the sword.

    Book Description

Are humans unique in having self-reflective consciousness? Or can precursors to this central form of human consciousness be found in non-human species? The Missing Link in Cognition brings together a diverse group of researchers who have been investigating this question from a variety of perspectives, including the extent to which non-human primates, and, indeed, young children, have consciousness, a sense of self, thought process, metacognitions, and representations. Some of the participants--Kitcher, Higgins, Nelson, and Tulving--argue that these types of cognitive abilities are uniquely human, whereas others--Call, Hampton, Kinsbourne, Menzel, Metcalfe, Schwartz, Smith, and Terrace--are convinced that at least the precursors to self-reflective consciousness exist in non-human primates. Their debate focuses primarily on the underpinnings of consciousness. Some of the participants believe that consciousness depends on representational thought and on the mental manipulation of such representations. Is representational thought enough to ensure consciousness, or does one need more? If one needs more, exactly what is needed? Is reflection upon the representations, that is, metacognition, the link? Does a realization of the contingencies, that is, "knowing that," in Gilbert Ryle's terminology, ensure that a person or an animal is conscious? Is true episodic memory needed for consciousness, and if so, do any animals have it? Is it possible to have episodic memory or, indeed, any self-reflective processing, without language? Other participants believe that consciousness is inextricably intertwined with a sense of self or self-awareness. From where does this sense of self or self-awareness arise? Some of the participants believe that it develops only through the use of language and the narrative form. If it does develop in this way, what about claims of a sense of self or self-awareness in non-human animals? Others believe that the autobiographical record implied by episodic memory is fundamental. To what extent must non-human animals have the linguistic, metacognitive, and/or representational abilities to develop a sense of self or self-awareness? These and other related concerns are crucial in this volume's lively debate over the nature of the missing cognitive link, and whether gorillas, chimps, or other species might be more like humans than many have supposed.

This book explores the real truth behind the operation nobody dared to completely research before. If JFK was in fact at odds with Israel over their nuclear plant then they did indeed have the biggest motive- State Survival - to initiate the plan. Not that everyone else didn't happily go along. The actual execution has been exposed over and over. But now we know where the orders came from and who desperately needs to cover it up. Figures in the CIA for example, will come and go. But Israel's survival is STILL at stake. Sickenly, if JFK had lived and implemented a balanced approach to the affairs in the Middle East, we MAY NOT be where we are today with regard to terrorism directed at our country. Our country was completely taken over with this coup, and has been in the hands of the killers ever since.

5 out of 5 stars The Truth has its own Resonance.......2005-03-18

As one who has read over 200 books on the JFK Assassination, and engaged in research both as an individual and as part of various teams, I can say without fear of contradiction that Piper's book is now the definitive work on the JFK Assassination. "Final Judgement" is the most thorough, most honest, most penetrating, most factual, and most analytically complete and systematic of all that I have read so far.

The author builds an upwardly spiralling tapestry of well documented facts that connect the threads of the conspiracy as they ascend level by level from the ground up to the very tip of the pyramid. Along the way, he breaks the conspiracy into easily digestible parts. Otherwise its sheer complexity would be nearly impossible to follow and decipher. At each level, the threads of the puzzle are woven together in such a way that the fog from the labyrinth is slowly but inexorably lifted until eventually it is peeled back completely and the outlines of the conspiracy are laid bare. What is revealed is as convincing as it is scary. Someday America will have to face some unplesant truths about its democracy and about how it has been, and continues to be manipulated, if not completely comandeered by those whose primary loyalties lie elsewhere.

While the links at some of the levels may be tenuous, the author refuses to "fake or fudge the data" or to be "fatally selective" in what is included or left out as many have charged was the case in the Warren Commission's own report. Piper is intrepid in following his analysis to every logical conclusion--wherever they lead and whatever the implications may be. In short, Piper keeps his eye on the donout ("Big Picture") and not on the hole (inessential details). he focuses on the "why and how" of the conspiracy and unmistakeably the threads all lead back to Israel, Israeli super-patriots, the Myer Lanskey led "Jewish branch of the mob," and the Massad and the international "agents of influence" under its control.

While serious researchers may quibble with inessential details in the study, such as tenuous links at some levels, or redundancies at others, those of us who have studied this issue since the days after the assassination always knew that the truth would have its own resonance--like the Garrison investigation did. We knew that the truth would have its own context, its own smell, like Peter Dale Scott's "Deep Politics and the Death of JFK" did. Piper's book has them all and in the grand tradition of Carl Oglesby's "Yankee Cowboy War," Micheal Piper has struck gold. He has hit the "mother lode," and in the process has pointed the finger at, if not tightened the proverbial noose around, the necks of the cabal of conspirators responsible for pulling the strings (and triggers) of the JFK assassination.

JFK assassination research has a new standard bearer. It will never be the same again. Because of this book, future research will begin to focus more on the "big picture," and turn away from constantly grinding, ad nauseam, at inconsistencies in the Warren Commission's Report.

Any derogetory negative information about the Apartheid, racist colonial Zionist state of Israel and not the Jewish People of whom I am a proud member is attacked and villified and banned by almost everyone because of the Zionist effective exploitation of the Derstruction of most European Jewry by the Nazis who were encouraged by the total acceptance for destroying Jews when all nations refused to accept the passengers on the Saint Luis including my aunt Sophie. Piper makes an icredibly powerful attack proof case that the Israeli Mossad ORCHESTRATED the execution of President Kennedy because of his effective blocking of Ben Gurion and his fellow Zionist's Samson complex fear of preserving their Zionist state with nuclear weapons of mass destruction with the aid of France. They had the strong pro Zionist #2 CIA James Jesus Angleton (whose office was in the White House) the powerful Jewish Zionist gangster Meyer Lansky and the super wealthy Canadian Zionist James Bronfman family of Schenly whiskey as the key organizers of this execution. Many of the less important actors already mentioned by other Kennedy scholars like Clay Shaw were all secondary contributors but no one before the Populist Piper made the vital Mossad connection without which the other writers were unable to make sense. DeGaulle ordered his nuclear scientists to cease there Israel connection without being followed and De Gaulle himself barely missed being assasinated by the Zionists. It is amazing that this 42 year ago connection has beeb covered up so long. This is mostly the consequence of the Zionist connected Anti Defamation Leage that is always prepared to accuse any Zionist critic of being an anti-semite, a self hating jew or a CONSPIRACIST which is a prejorative label meaning pARANOID, NUTTY, MARGINAL AND CERTAINLY UNTRUE SIMILAR TO THE CATHOLIC church;s use of Heresy and Witchcraft or Communist in more recent times. Please do yourself a huge favor to explore this most important book.

    5 out of 5 stars Unequalled........2006-09-22

If all other books written about the JFK Assassination are to be categorized, especially Government-sanctioned ones; i.e. the "Warren Commission Report", they belong to such categories as "Deviant Deceptions", "Fanciful Fictions", or how about "Pompous Pretensions."
This book on the other hand is in a category all by itself, "Factual." The little bit of speculative views, which are distinguished in this book as such, make more sense and are more reasonable than any other book that lay claims to theirs as being factual. Those writers are either, ignorant of, or intentionally hiding the truth, that Michael Collins Piper so clearly articulates.
Thank you Michael Collins Piper for this excellent unmasking, you are a rare breed.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book couldn't put it down!!.......2006-04-19

Finally the big picture as to who would have ordered the killing of an American President.

Sure , the operation as we know it still occoured which still makes me loath the CIA and Secret Service for participating in it. But , "the powerful force" has been uncovered and exposed--finally.

And without the "established" media, the coup could have not been covered up forever, as it was.

Piper does an excellent job of making every connection to the coup come back to Israel, and it is clear that State Survival is clearly a motive for murder. Not munitions plants, political survival, petty revenge and so forth.

The "unthinkable" had to happen only for such a grand reason. The survival of a country.

I recently listened again, to the American University Speech given by Mr. Kennedy the summer of his demise and can't help but think that speech put the icing on the cake for the plotters.

Another disturbing little known fact until "Final Judgement" was that Kennedy promoted Alegerian independence in 1956. Support for this Arab state resulted in the asassination attempt on DeGaul by the same force that ultimately teamed up with our CIA and killed JFK.

Unfortunately,if JFK had lived and implemented his even handed approach to Middle Eastern affairs, the world terrorism situation would not be as it is. Instead , US policy has been one sided and this has created resentment in the Arab world.

    5 out of 5 stars Reviewer is a discredited philo-semite, December 29, 2005.......2006-04-14

The reviewer said "Author is a discredited anti-semite, December 29, 2005. ... Piper is a far-right extremist and well-known anti-semite. The book is full of anti-semitic, nonsensical conspiracy theories."

Perhaps that reviewer is a far-left or far-right extremist and well-known pedophile. His review is full of pro-semitic, mindless, unproven allegations."

No proof is offered of any of those shabby statements. No single example was given to prove his idiotic ramblings. That fanatical Holocaust-worshipping reviewer writes as Hitler spoke - all emotion and no logic or facts.

Piper is a revisionist historian and skilled writer. Those who seek to learn and publish the truth are demonized, as witnessed by "A Reader's" absurd review of December 29, 2005. Read Piper's book, assess the facts discussed, and leave shallow, puerile minds like that of "A Reader" on the trash heap of false history and superstition where it was born and where it deserves to remain.
