I recently bought the 2007 Calorie, Fat, and Carbohydrate counter book because it was suggested by a weightloss advisor that I buy a calorie-counting book.
I've lost 16 pounds in a little over three months with the help of a weightloss plan and now that I'm on the plan's stabilization level, I can start to incorporate "normal" foods (pizza!) back into my diet on a reasonable level. And I can monitor things by counting calories.
What attracted me to this book was, at first, its size. I can fit it in my purse or my pocket and won't take up much room in any other kind of bag. Then when I opened the book and starting looking, I saw it's everything I need.
I really like the updated fast food/franchise restaurant calorie listings. Now, while EVERYTHING isn't included, there's A LOT of information on popular places. If I know I'm going out later, I can plan the rest of my day by looking at the calorie book. If I want that burger and fries at Chili's later, I need to watch what I eat prior to that outing and also watch what I eat the next day, so I don't pack on the pounds again. It can happen QUICK if you're not careful!
So, between what I learned at the weightloss center and what I'm learning from this book, I feel confident I can maintain my weight, stay healthy and fit and feel and look good....all which I have worked hard to do. I could go on, but the point is that this book is very useful EVERYDAY and is interesting and fun too.
This would also make a great gift for ANYONE!

This is a fabulous little book to keep in your purse or day planner..
I couldn't live without it, have the earlier version and now he's added so many new foods. Very much worth the $$.

I bought this book since it had many fast food places listed in it which is very handy. My only "beef" is that there is no listing of fiber with the carbs, so you cannot separate the "good" and "bad" carbs when planning a meal.

I travel often for work which leads to a LOT of dining out every week. Having this book with me is very handy. You will be surprised at how much fat or calories are in the food which is served. Many places still don't break down the calories, fat, protein, etc on the menu....but in comes this book to save the day. Dinners here in the States are the serving size of at least 2 if not 4--and most Americans shovel it in and get fatter and fatter. Buy the guide to help you watch what you eat.

This book is packed with info, well organized and to the point. It's not about dieting philosophy, long opinions nor reasons why you should or shouldn't follow a set dieting plan (though it has helpful example menu plans), it's more about factual data. It's not written like a novel but rather lots of numbers/lists along with supporting text, great as a reference book. Good find for me as it was just what I was looking for. I wanted something I could keep with me and quickly look up calories, fat, carbs, cholesterol, etc. (mostly what the book contains) and other data for lot's of foods. Excellent value. Glad I bought it.

First time in 44 years I fell good with dieting.......2007-10-04
It really is true that if you follow the food pyramid for your dominant gland that the foods will eliminate your cravings while dieting. I have done every diet that one could find on this planet, even "lifetime member" at weight watchers but I alwasy was fighting food cravings. A naturopathic physician referred me to this, I was more than skeptical because I am not a "tree hugger" type of person that would consider the source valuable. The first month I was shakey and had a hard time with my cravings, but then on day without any explanation I got energy and did not crave the foods I always ate. The best part is that I am loosing weight in places FIRST that I used to loose LAST (the "problem area") so watching my physic change in this desirable order is so new for a 44 year old like me. I have a college at work who had given up on weight loss, gave this a half hearted try, and has lost near to 100 lbs. Totally amazing.

This is not some fad diet book. The way to eat the foods for your body type throughout the day absolutely WORKS! Everyone in our neighborhood is doing this and everyone would tell you they feel wonderful. There is so much insight in this book about how you eat and what you should change to avoid cravings for the things not good for you. Highly recommend.

It is a great book. A bit confusing as to body typing but there is a number you can call for help. Easy to follow meal plan for life not just for the actual weight loss time. A must for those who have failed more times than they wish to admit or are constantly yoyo dieting.

This book is right on the money. It gives you great insight into what you would be better off not eating for your body type. I am a Thyroid type. I can appreciate the information regarding my body type in this book. The book not only advises you regarding foods but also on supplements to fortify your exhausted or overworked glands. I gave it 4 stars because I think there should be more body type illustrations. It gives you an illustration for each body type person when overweight and when they are at their optimal weight. But I think that the reader could use a few more illustrations, as everyone is a little different even if you correspond to the same body type group.

This book is extremely informative and teaches you the proper way to eat. The most fascinating thing about the lifestyle eating plan is that it does not ask you to give up foods, but teaches you the appropriate times and foods to eat, to appease your dominant gland. IT WORKS!!!!! What an eye opener. I liked the book so much and got such incredible results that I have bought 5 other copies for friends who asked what it is that I was doing to get the noticeable results. Thank you Dr. Abravanel! My friends in Germany would like you to translate this book into German. I can recommend someone to translate it for you.

I loved this item! I ordered a sample to try out on some of my clients who were new to logging in food journals, and they love it. It's small enough to carry around in a purse, but has enough room for the basics--what you ate, when, even carbs, fat, and water intake. If your looking for something more in depth (why you ate, etc), this doesn't have enough room. I found it very affordable and useful!

This product rocks! My wife and I started dieting, so I purchased 8 of these to help us on our way along with the compliment to this book "The Calorie King Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter" and so far our dieting is going very well. In the first three weeks we have combined to lose about 25 pounds. The book is a real eye opener to all the food you consume in a day and helps you better "budget" the calories you consume in a day. It also has a few pages that gives you great health advice on how to succeed in your diet. We will definitely buy more after we have used them all!

Best Book By Far!.......2007-07-05
I saw the book on the calorieking.com website and figured I'd give it a chance. I'd used spreadsheets in the past to keep track of calorie intakes but you don't often eat your meals at a computer so it was hard to remember to input everything I ate. This book is small so it goes everywhere with me, its easy to use and comes with instructions, helpful dieting tips, weekly overviews and a graph at the end to track your progress. I've been using it for just over 2 weeks now and have lost about 6lbs! Each day has its own page to track your calories eaten, calories burned during exercise, fat intake, glasses of water drank, and steps. There is also an optional carb/protein column if you are on a specific type of diet. I would definitely recommend this to anyone trying to loose weight. It keeps you accountable for what you put in your mouth and helps you manage how much you eat versus how much you work out.
OH and one last thing, the last 4 pages or so gives you the calories and fat found in many common foods, so if you don't have the nutrition information available for you you can look it up in your book. The nutrition information section also features a page for fast food including mc donalds, wendys, subway and pizza hut among others.

I'm finally losing weight!!!!!.......2007-08-27
I've been on countless diets over the years. Pretty much, you name it and I've tried it. I've been on Atkins, The Zone, vegetarian, low-fat, Eat Right for Your Blood Type, SlimFast, and South Beach. In addition, I've tried counting calories and restricting my food intake so much that I had almost no energy. However, I was never able to keep the weight off long term. If only I had known then what I know now! I've been on the diet for a month now and have lost 10 pounds and I'm steadily continuing to lose. I've learned that I don't have to be deprived to lose weight. In fact, I'm eating more than I was on any of my previous diets and enjoying my food more than ever! This book has taught me that a large part of losing weight and keeping it off is about making better choices and finally, I am learning how to choose foods for my body that not only support weight loss, but also make me healthier all around.
One huge revelation for me was the chapter on mindset and psychological health. Previously, I was constantly degrading myself because of my weight and I was constantly depressed and negative because I hated my body. Never Be Fat Again has taught me that my mindset is very important in my weight loss journey. I have increasingly become a more positive person and I can finally say, for the first time since high school, that I'm starting to love my body!

Awesome! I give this book ten stars. Never Be Fat Again has got to be the best book on weight control ever written. I keep going on diets and the pounds keep coming back. For so many years I have tried to lose weight only to lose and regain the same 25 pounds over and over while gaining more weight every year. For the first time I now understand why diets don't work, and how to lose weight permanently. This book teaches you why you can't lose weight permanently by trying to lose weight. Excess weight is only a symptom of this disease, and you can't cure the disease by treating the symptom. The author, an MIT-trained scientist, identifies the causes of this disease, which, much to my surprise, include common environmental toxins. Armed with this knowledge, I am reversing the causes that created my weight in the first place. In just six weeks, I have lost 15 pounds without feeling deprived and eating as much as I like. In fact, I have more energy, sleep better and feel better than I have in years. All I did is cut out the processed foods and artificial sweeteners and get on the recommended supplement program. Never Be Fat Again is different from anything else out there on the market. It is clearly written and easy to read, but best of all, a scientifically-sound solution to excess weight. I highly recommend it. The chapter on sugar alone is worth the price of the book.

Too much of a good thing.......2007-09-25
On the plus side, this is probably the best book I've ever read on the subject of weight training. On the down side, boy, there is so much to each work out that it is overwhelming.
I've been weight training for over 5 years and have used Body for Life and a number of the Men's Health training books. This volume, far and away, has the greatest number of new exercises to be used each week. In the intermediate program, e.g., there are 3 separate workouts to be alternated. Perhaps if someone has a half an hour a day to review the exercises, another 40 minutes to do them (and to tote the handsome volume to the gym), these are reasonable....but for someone who has other responsibilities, kids, job, home, this is a fairly time and concentration intensive program.
That being said, I would certainly endorse this book for anyone who wants a genuinely serious, long term program. Too often, the Men's Health "Bibles" are limited programs, leaving the lifter who is committed with wondering "what next". This book provides enough variety and different routines to make it a great long term investment.
Lots of Strengths.......2007-09-22
The book starts out with basic muscle physiology which is always good to know. Then it moves on to five chapters of exercises. They are divided up into muscles that move the shoulder, muscles that move the elbow and wrist, muscles that move the spine, muscles that move the hip, and finally, muscles that move the knee and ankle.
With that knowledge in hand, the book then describes the workout programs. Included are routines for beginner, intermmediate, and advanced lifters. A pretty good guide to weight lifting, I think it will benefit lifters of all experience levels. And I have to say, of all the weight lifting books on the market, this one definitely has the best pictures of all time. In fact they should enter some of them in photography contests.
Also recommend Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff if a shoulder or rotator cuff problem is keeping you from lifting weights.
Not for the serious body builder.......2007-09-22
The concepts in this book are very interesting and if a person wants to have an excellently toned body, this would be the book for them. However, the emphasis is not on serious high intensity workouts for the person wanting major gains in size.
best workout/lifting book (that I've seen).......2007-07-11
This book really does deserve a 5 star rating. It does, for many reasons, but foremost because relative to ALL other lifting books, this one is one covers all the bases! It is written well and does a good job explaining all the stuff surrounding muscles and muscle building. The pictures are well done and neatly illustrate how to do the exercises. The programs are well designed for pretty much all people and take you through a good progression of low weight to heavy weights. There are lots of exercises to do and they keep on changing, so someone with a short attention span like myself won't get bored! All in all, this book separates itself from it's competitors in it's professional presentation, content and thoughtful and straightforward routines.
I'm on the 7th week of the intermediate program after completing the beginner program. So far I've gone from 165 lbs to 178! All of this came at around 2/3s of the way through the beginner program (right when you start changing from low weight to heavy weight). Everyone really should start at the beginner program! I found it difficult and I was already in shape! If this book doesn't kick your butt you're doing something wrong. Don't flatter yourself thinking you'll get better results by starting at the intermediate program, just start at the beginner program unless you are very experienced. Chances are you bought this book because you ARE a beginner, so don't flatter yourself!
Caveats: With all the hoopla surrounding supplementation, I'd have appreciated more talk on supplementation. The first few sections in the beginner program are a tad confusing. Such a strong focus on rear lat pulldowns and military presses can injure one's shoulders.

I much preferred "The Healing Art of Sports Massage"--it's author has impressive experience that was every day for 20+ years...the illustrations and text/knowledge are clearer and easier to apply.

The exercises are clearly presented and range in complexity from simple to challenging. Some offer excellent review for those experienced in matt Pilates while others create new challenges. Highly recommended for the beginner and the experienced. The execution of the printing is very good, and the quality binding should make this soft covered book last a long time.
