Customer Reviews:
Absolutely the Best!.......2007-07-06
I found this book in the attic of our old apartment, before I could even read English. I fell in love with the book then, because I guided myself through the book's gorgeous illustrations. When I finally did learn to read in English, it was even more magical. I carried this book (torn pages and all) for 13 years everywhere I moved until one day, I spotted the bookcover's color out of the corner of my eye at a bookstore---I was ecstatic! It was still in print! Since then, I've purchased well over 100 copies to give away to every child or baby I know. If you ever buy a book for a child--boy or girl---this is the one they should have. It's not only utterly beautiful, but it's story is powerful!
A Heartwarming Tale of Courage and Compassion!.......2007-05-17
I've loved this book for nearly 50 years.... my children loved it, too. It's the story of a little "country bunny" who has high aspirations - to be the next Easter Bunny. Despite all odds, and with the help of her little (?!) family, she braves gigantic obstacles to prove that she has what it takes: she's courageous, swift, and kind. It's beautifully written, and the illustrations capture the tenderness of the story. Reading it will affirm that goodness and compassion can provide the strength to achieve what may seem impossible!
The Counntry Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes.......2007-05-13
This was the first book I checked out at the library as a first grader.
I wanted my grannybabies to know a little about Grannymaw; when she was little....
Fabulous!.......2007-04-10
I read this book in the early 70's for the first time and now give it away as gifts. It's a wonderful Easter story that encourages little girls to dream big dreams! The drawings are artful, the colors are memorable and the story is very sweet. I enjoy giving it to others as much as I loved having it read to me as a child.
A True Working Mother.......2007-04-03
A Classic. This book was written prior to the Women's Lib movement but wow, does it ever celebrate women, especially mothers. How refreshing to read and what an unusual perspective on the hard-working
Easter Bunny

The tale of a little duck alone on the Yangtze River, The Story About Ping is a sweet and funny book with wonderfully rich and colorful illustrations. On a day like any other, Ping sets off from the boat he calls home with his comically large family in search of "pleasant things to eat." On this particular day, he is accidentally left behind when the boat leaves. Undaunted, the little duck heads out onto the Yangtze in search of his family, only to find new friends and adventures--and a bit of peril--around every bend.
The exceptional illustrations bring the lush Yangtze to life, from Ping's family to the trained fishing birds he finds himself among to the faithfully rendered boats and fishermen. Certainly intended to be read aloud, The Story About Ping deserves a place on every young reader's (or listener's) shelf. (Picture book)
Book Description
Since 1933, The Story About Ping has captivated generations of readers, but never before has it been available in a mass-market paperback format. No one can deny the appeal of the book's hero, Ping, the spirited little duck who lives on a boat on the Yangtze River. Ping's misadventures one night while exploring the world around his home form the basis of this timeless classic, which is brought to life by Kurt Wiese's warm and poignant illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Dated (not to be overly PC, but...).......2007-10-05
Had fond memories of this book as a kid, so bought recently for niece - but didn't end up giving it to her. Re-reading now, the story has aged badly: Negatively stereotypic drawings of Chinese ("Coolie" hat, "slanty" eyes, buck teeth and all - disclosure: I am Asian) and the motivation for little Ping to get with the program is fear of physical abuse (last duck on boat gets whacked w/ a stick.) I know, I know, being overly sensitive; but is this really what I want to convey as acceptable to a potentially impressionable child? Oh well, another childhood memory debunked...
Great Book.......2007-08-24
This is a really cute book. My 6 yo son enjoyed it. He said, "Poor little duck. I wouldn't want to be hit just for being the last one in line!" I have to say, I thought the same thing! :)
I LOVE THIS BOOK.......2007-07-25
My children love this book. So many things can be discussed with this classic: discernment, responsibility, being able to take your punishment when you know you've done wrong, Chinese culture, etc. We used this for homeschooling and from here went into discussions about the Yangtze River (where the book is based), and learned about cormorants (the "strange, dark, fishing birds" in the book). It was very educational. Interestingly, it wasn't my favorite at first, but it grows on you, and has such depth. HIGHLY RECOMMEND******
Boring and harsh.......2007-07-25
The illustrations are plain and unappealing. The flow of the reading lags as well. My son never showed any interest in this book, and neither did I. Also, there are several references to beating ducks with a stick.
Great classic children's story.......2007-07-21
The Story of Ping is a great classic children's story that my children loved. I purchased this copy for my grandchildren to enjoy. Thanks for making it available.

Customer Reviews:
Nothing Beats a Good Hug.......2006-11-10
I can recall reading this book to my much younger siblings and then to my own 4 children; now I am reading it
to my grandson. I especially like the way the animals help the little boy find a gift for his mother with the perfect
gift not being something material but just a lovely big hug. What a wonderful message to pass on to a child.
A Book for Our Time.......2006-04-04
The little boy of this story doesn't know what to give his mother for her birthday and so he consults a number of animals (chicken, sheep, etc.). None of the suggestions suit him until Mr. Bear suggests a precious something no mommie can get enough of from her little boy or girl.
This book was written in 1932 but its message is timeless. If you want a book that reinforces nonmaterial values, one that your child will love and that strengthens parent-child bonds, consider this one. Four generations in our family have met Mr. Bear and the fifth is just about ready to. Five stars, definitely five stars.
Nostalgic, a sweet story for a beginning reader or a very young child.......2005-11-28
I read this story to a 4 year old, but I found that it would be more appropriate for a toddler, or a child just learning to read for him/herself.If a child is taught to read phonetically, not relying on sight reading, it is a very readable book at late kindergarten reading level. As a story time/ read aloud book though, I found it to be somewhat monotonous, not so much for the story itself, but that the sentence structure and length varied little, and was too predictable. Some children would find it boring. My son loves to read and will hear almost any book once. Children love to be able to anticipate what's happening around the corner, but I felt it to be a bit too much so. In the end, little Danny takes bear's advice and gives his mother a "bear" hug for her birthday- the highlight of the story. The illustrations are sweet and simple. Honestly, I wouldn't put money on the table to buy this one, but it has redeeming value. If it holds cherished memories for you, indulge!
Multigenerational Favorite!!!.......2004-06-17
Ask Mr. Bear is sweet and simple yet engaging for the preschool aged child. In addition, it shows the child a shining example of "thinking outside the box" in a day and age where fancy and expensive gifts are the rule rather than the exception. I remember this being my absolute favorite book as a child and now I can re-live it all over again with my own son. A+
Ask Mr Bear.......2004-01-28
I do child care in my home, and all the children can read this book to me!
We love this book, and the pictures are so cool.
Keep printing it!
I would like it on a DVD.

Book Description
Always curious, Angus runs away from his house to seek new adventures. Find them he does, but will Angus make it back home?
Customer Reviews:
Fifty years later . . ........2007-04-07
My mommy helped me read this when I was a mere toddler. My mommy is gone and I am an old person now, but I want to thank mommy for introducing me to the lovable Angus! Each time she took me to the library, I lalways wanted to take out the same Angus books. And now, YEARS LATER, I want to own them all. One never grows tired of the spunky little terrier and his adventures. If you are an old curmudgeon, Angus will lower your blood pressure. If you are an adult and introduce a child to Angus today, they will be thanking you half a century later--trust me!
Keep going, my little Angus--I love you!
Everyone is Curious.......2006-11-10
This is one of three books about Angus, the little Scottish Terrier. He is like many small boys or girls
who do not want to stay safely at home, but want to take off and explore the world. Without being terribly scary
this story illustrates that sometimes we are not ready to do what we think we are ready to do, and that there are
good reasons for certain rules. Angus is very smart and learns quickly. I feel children relate to the way curiosity
tempts us to do things we should not do.
I also enjoy reading the Quack Quack Quackety Quack talk of the ducks to little children because they love
hearing an adult quack.
Angus Lost.......2006-06-29
Oh Angus, how we love your stories! This little curious scottish terrier is more curious that Curious George. He goes off in winter to explore where the milkman goes, finds a dog friend, meets a goat who luckily is on a chain. He runs to find more adventure and gets caught overnight in the snow. He hears a sound he knows...the milkman and follows him on his route until he finds his way home. Very heartwarming story.
Angus Lost.......2005-08-19
An absolutely wonderful and charming children's book that can be enjoyed by adults as well
Angus Lost Finds A Place in Your Heart.......2003-07-24
This book introduces Angus, a small Scottish Terrier. Angus is curious about a great many things in his world (i.e. where the dog in the mirror goes).
One day the door between the inside and the outside is open. Angus can't resist going out and seeing the new things. But soon Angus can no longer find his way home. But after spending the night in a small cave, Angus finds a way to find his way back home again.
A simple tale with interesting illustrations tells how easy it is to become lost but that one should not give up hope. Dog fans and fans of good basic stories will love this one.

Book Description
When Angus, a very curious young terrier, sees that the door is open one day, he decides to go exploring. Little does he know what neighbors await him!
Farrar, Straus and Giroux is proud to reintroduce Angus and the Ducks, along with its companion books, Angus and the Cat and Angus Lost. These classic tales of the feisty, lovable Angus will once again delight children everywhere.
Customer Reviews:
Classy Classic.......2007-08-17
My 1.5 year old is already a fan of this book. We bought it because she's fascinated with ducks. The realistic illustrations and complex sentences are a nice change of pace from most of her more recently published children's' books. The story has a bit of intrigue, a quick pace, and a humorous ending. It's just perfect.
a classic.......2007-06-03
This is a wonderful book for children or for any age. Subtle and beautifully written, and perfect artwork.
Dogs Rule!.......2006-11-13
I think this (or Make Way for Ducklings) was my first library book. At any rate, it starated me on a lifelong love of reading--and dogs! The illustrations capture every nuance of a dog's body language--you can practically feel Angus' warm little tummy as he stands up to reach something high. The story is not babyfied, but, as another reviewer indicates, is told with an intelligent vocabulary. Build vocab early!
I treasured my Angus book and each time my mom took me to the library (years and years and years ago), I confounded her by ALWAYS adding the same old Angus book to my pile of borrowings. I hope I will OWN them all one day!
Fun, easy to read.......2005-03-30
We used this book as a read aloud, my son reading to me, and he really loved the story. It is nice and short so it is perfect for beginning readers. Yet the story has enough adventure and humor to make it interesting as well.
Another charming Angus adventure.......2003-07-24
Angus, star of Angus Lost, is back. This time he is curious about the noises he hears coming from the other side of the hedge. When Angus finds a thin spot that he can get through, his new adventure begins as he meets the two ducks who live next door.
A simple tale with interesting illustrations tells how easy it is to become lost but that one should not give up hope. Dog fans and fans of good basic stories will love this one.

Angus and the Cat.......2006-06-29

Angus has been lost and he has met the ducks, but this time Angus takes on his most puzzlesome adventure. Angus tries to match wits with the wily cat who lives in his house.
A simple tale with interesting illustrations tells how easy it is to become lost but that one should not give up hope. Dog fans and fans of good basic stories will love this one.
Values.......2002-07-06
In this second book of the series, Angus is jealous of the cat at first and a little put out that he's not the "only child" any more. But, after learning more about the cat and feeling more secure in his home, Angus finds that the cat can be a good companion after all. This is a great story for children who are soon to have a new brother or sister. I'm so glad these books from the 1930's have been reissued. Many children may find them old fashioned, the illustrations aren't the bright crayon colors so popular today, but the stories still hold after all these years. It's up to parents and grandparents to show the children that, just because the books seems old fashioned, the stories they tell were valid when they were written, valid before they were written, and will be valid for all time. Please, read this and the other two "Angus" books to your children. Talk about them. We need to go back to tolerance, gentleness, and understanding, if just for the time it takes to read these short books. There' too much violence in a lot of the contemporary children's books. I won't review "Angus and the Ducks" and "Angus Lost" separately; I've said it all here.
We loved Angus and the Cat.......2001-08-07
My 5-year-old daughter and I really like this book. I like the way it was written and she enjoys the way Angus and the Cat get along (or not) and eventually develop a friendship of sorts. The book is cleverly written and is a warm story of curiosity, differences, and frienship.

Book Description
Once domesticated, rabbits are very sociable animals that can be trained, and that get along well with other house pets. This book covers every aspect of house rabbit ownership and care. It includes a nose-to-tail health guide to ensure that the rabbit remains fit and healthy. Books in this handsomely produced series are written especially for new and soon-to-be pet owners. Most volumes, filled with striking color illustrations, give in-depth presentations of the needs and traits of specific dog breeds. Starting this season,Living With a Pet books are expanding to include other animals that have become popular as house pets. Before acquiring a pet, potential buyers need to know: Is the animal good with children? Which dog breeds make good hunters, guard dogs, or farm dogs? Which animals make ideal apartment pets? Each title in this series gives readers a detailed understanding of the animal's daily needs, special abilities, physical traits, temperament, susceptibility to health problems, and the many other details prospective owners need to know before acquiring a pet. All Living With a Pet titles are hardcover editions with jackets, and all have color photos on every two-page spread. Interesting sidebars appear throughout the text.

This collection of Flack's writings covers so much game that after reading this book you will agree that the Big Five are not the only worthwhile African trophies.

Women's Lib.......2006-04-16
This book is the original Women's Lib book. Its a story of a single mother bunny with 21 children. She has them so well organized that they even have time for fine arts in her home. She has no desire for a job, but attends the great Easter race one year. She impresses the grandfather bunny with her skill, wit, and speed that he chooses her to be the next Easter bunny.
She manages her household and her job as the Easter bunny single-handedly. It is a beautiful story full of love and wonderful pictures. It is an absolute classic.
The best easter book ever!.......2003-04-23
This was my absolute favorite book as a child! It's really one of the only ones I remember besides my Mother Goose book. I bought it for my step-daughter and she loved it as well. It's such a sweet book with pictures that will stay in a child's memory forever.
The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes.......2000-03-24
I remember this book from my childhood and it is still as meaningful and heartwarming to my children today. The Mother Bunny over comes and triumphs not only for herself but her children and the ones that are waiting for her Easter eggs. A loving and tender tale of parenthood and Easter together.
