Excellent!.......2007-10-01
Couldn't be more pleased with this book - it has great recipes, tips, and nutritional information on ingredients.
The Ultimate Dog Treat Cookbook: Homemade Goodies for Man's Best Friend .......2007-09-28
There are lots of easy, healthy, fun to make dog treats with things you already have in your cabinets. It was worth buying and I am very happy to have it on my bookshelf.
A little ruff!!!!.......2007-07-18
this book has a good selection of recipes but they are complicated and use ingredients like dried milk powder etc... the handy hints are good but some of the ingredients put me off making them.
Good book...Not exactly what I was looking for.......2007-07-13
This book uses a lot of "pre-made" ingredients (dog kibble, cereal, pancake mix) in the recipes, if that is what you are looking for than this is the book for you.
Drooling Doggie.......2007-05-15
My dog has just loved what I've made so far. The only fault with the book is having to do conversions (being from Oz)and finding the equivilent of the prepared bicuit bases, but I have and now we are on our way.
Some of Harley's mates also liked what I made! And yes he did sit next to me and drool!

It is a useful book for gaining self-confidence and understanding towards dating.......2007-09-13
This book is all about following the basic and original dating rules without changing who you really are. It has reminded me of following my heart and instinct. I would read it often when I feel confused about dating. However, there are some grammar mistakes which I think should be avoided. Anyway, it is worth buying and reading.
Very different than most relationship advice books.......2007-08-14
This is great book. Every woman should read it. You will be surprised how iformative this book is!
But you must read another new besteller which I highly recommend - "How to be a Super Hot Woman: 339 Tips to Make Every Man Fall in Love with You and Every Woman Envy You" by Mandy Simons
These books are fascinating!
Great advice, easy read.......2006-12-24
I give this book 5 stars because it was so easy for me to read (I have a really short attention span) and easy for me to grasp the excellent advice Ms. Miller dished out. If you're not careful, you may think the author is a little brash in her advice giving. But each chapter is very short (no more than 2-3 pages average) and blunt and to the point. She smartly sums up each chapter with 2-3 bulleted point short sentences. No long, drawn out explanations about crap we already know. She is like the girlfriend that fusses at you when you tell her something stupid you did in your dating life. This book is a nice self-esteem booster, especially if you are struggling a little bit in dealing with guys you are dating. I am giving this book out as gifts.
Really BEST! dating book!!! .......2006-11-04
I've read quite a number of dating advice books, like Why men love/marry bitches, the dating rules, etc. I found this book really really gives me the right attitude and the power I want. While the "Why men" series get me being too aggressive and not being myself (which is a bit uncomfortable to me), this book really says dating tips best, and I know it works this time. I just finished this book, and I know I am going to change and be a lot more comfortble out there, and I am SELF-CONFIDENT NOW!!! I know I am going to be great! Really thanks!!! I highly recommend this book. It's really really a nice gift.
The only dating book that really works!.......2006-08-21
Right away, after following just a few of the tips from Romy Miller I was getting men stuffing phone numbers in my hand, men turning to look at me and asking me out...and I didn't even need to say a word. She basically puts very simple and powerful information in your hands to have men chasing after you. I can't imagine ever needing to read another book on dating again. Within 48 hours of finishing the book a man I knew and was crazy about from a year ago showed up, approached me and asked me out. Crazy coincidence maybe, but I can't recommend the book highly enough. It worked for me and I just know now it is the women who have all the power and men should be chasing us! Good luck to y'all. This book is the bible on attracting men's attention and having them want you. Thank you, Romy.

Customer Reviews:
Very basic.......2007-05-15
This book was ok. I was hoping for a little more detail or delving into the maid of honor duties as opposed to bridesmaid duties and this book failed to deliver. It is very simple, perhaps good for a junior bridesmaid?
Too much responsibility!.......2006-11-10
This book gives the maid of honor WAY too much responsibility. From contacting and dealing with all the other bridesmaids so the bride can worry about others things to contacting everyone on the guest list to introduce yourself and let them know where the couple is registered. Ha! This book does contain the basics, but it pushes things a bit too far I think.
Probably not the worst bridesmaid book out there..........2006-11-06
My husband was obsessing over his duties for a wedding that he and I were asked to stand up in. As long as I was buying him a book about being a Best Man, I decided to read up on being a Maid/Matron of honor.
Now I've only been a part of weddings in the Midwest, so I don't know how it is done elsewhere in the country, but many of the duties this book outlined seem out of date. For example, calling all of the guests and introducing myself? No honor attendent has ever called me when I was a guest! I also was not aware that the maid of honor was supposed to organize absolutely everything with wedding day hair appointments, guest accomodations, dress fittings, etc. As I bride I did all of that as part and parcel of being the bride and the brides I've stood up for have all been the same. Perhaps we are all just control freaks.
I mostly wanted information on the bridal shower and bachelorette party and I did get some ideas. And it did remind me that I needed to check in with the bride frequently to offer my services, even if she had everything under control.
The last section of the book covers toasts. Please, do not use the sample toasts. I'm not sure what the author was drinking when she wrote the section on toasts, but whatever it was, it was in large quantities. I know that not everyone is a natural public speaker, but a few heartfelt works about your relationship to the bride and well wishes would be much prefered to the toasts written in the final chapter.
I don't understand the good reviews..........2006-07-01
I bought this book based on the reviews, but I found it to be a horrible book. I can't imagine following these rules and having friends after the wedding. What the tell you to do is be one of those annoying people that gets involved in EVERYTHING and takes over EVERYTHING.
EVERYTHING wedding related seems to be the responsibility of the Maid of Honor.
I'm scared to be a Maid of Honor after reading this book. What the author describes as responsibility of the Maid of Honor seems more appropriate for a Wedding Planner.
This is a very helpful book.......2005-05-04
I was a little nervous to buy this book because I saw a bad review but the others were all so good. It was out of stock for a while but I bought it and I found it very helpful. The tone seemed really fine to me. I dont know if I would buy it as a bride to give to the maid of honor because I think any book would be presumptous. I think this is a book that a Maid of Honor should buy for herself. It helped me a lot.

Was surprised to find the "Write your own story" book enclosed in this gift set. Would recommend to anyone.
Golden Book set.......2007-02-08
I bought this set for my grandson and am very pleased with it! It has five titles (The Color Kittens, Mister Dog, I Can Fly, Baby Farm Animals, The Jolly Barnyard, and The Happy Man and His Dump Truck) which are old favorites with some favorite author/illustrators, including Margaret Wise Brown and Garth Williams. The reason for buying the set AS a set, however, was the blank create-your-own Golden Book! I think this is a great idea and look forward to seeing my grandson's own story!
Book Description
For this third edition, Clara and her staff visited nearly 500 of New York City's elementary schools and chose 200 of the best schools to recommend. This essential guide uncovers the "inside scoop" on schools (the condition of the building, homework, teacher quality, etc.), includes a checklist of questions to ask on a school tour, and incorporates new listings of charter schools and "magnet" programs.
Customer Reviews:
this book has helped me to make up my mind to move back to NY.......2006-03-22
This book has helped me to make up my mind to move back to NY--helped me understand the byzantine system, and highlights specific schools that I would never have heard or read about otherwise.
Hemphill is an argument for how one must look at specific schools under particular leadership in a finite time period, instead of generalizing. And instead of unproductive nostalgizing, "schools were better in earlier days..." Really, some schools can go downhill, but others have gone uphil, and there is a need to constantly reassess.
My only gripe is that the author didn't (couldn't?) review all schools, or more schools. If a school isn't mentioned, then is it totally hopeless? Or were there page number constraints?
There is no other book like this. Every city should have a Hemphill book.
A good place to start.......2006-01-02
I agree with both previous reviewers. I am so glad this book exists because there are many wonderful public elementary schools in NYC. (My son's at one!) But this book does not always contain the very latest information, such as a change in principals. (Principals are very important.) Use this book as a starting point and then talk with as many parents, teachers as you can for the latest developments in the schools you're considering.
Not as in depth as I wanted.......2003-06-07
Not as in depth as I wanted, but I had high expectations. Good as a starting point only, tends to repeat "common knowledge."
Superb Resource.......2002-09-17
As a NYC K-12 educational consultant, I frequently listen to parents' worries about entrusting their children to the New York City public schools. This is unfortunate, because some local public schools are excellent.
Hemphill's book is extremely valuable because she identifies top schools and demystifies the admissions process for zoned and out-of-zone students. She also explains admissions to gifted and other special programs...

Frank, clearly written and empowering.......2005-01-18
In a time of sexual freedom and supposed sexual equality, it's amazing how many women still don't know their bodies. Ms. Mullen's frank, clearly written and empowering book explains the real deal to today's modern woman.
A New Friend.......2005-01-14
Mullen's writing style makes one feel like they are talking to an old friend. I feel like Shannon is now a friend of mine. This book is great to read cover to cover or to simply pick up and flip to certain sections. This will be a resource that I keep around for a long time.
This book delivers........2004-11-29
I found this book very compelling reading. It was writen quite well and I basically finished it in one sitting. I appreciated Ms. Mullen's treatment of sensitive sexual issues and will be referring some of my counseling patients to this book. Her mature and clever take on a variety of sexual behaviors will be useful to many people who find it difficult to communicate with their partners regarding their sexual wants and needs. Oh, by the way, I learned some interesting new things for myself.
The "best" I've ever read!!!!!.......2004-11-28
I had a great time reading this book. I found it to be very well written. Her style is refreshing and totally cool. I read the whole book in one day. She presents her knowledge in an informative and easy to read format. This book is part jokebook and part girlfriends bonding book and part illustrative textbook all rolled into one. I can't wait for the sequel!
Tell Me More!.......2004-11-25
A pleasure to read and even more fun to put to use, The Best You'll Ever Have definitely lives up to its title. Shannon Mullen delivers useful information and fabulous advice in a no-nonsense fashion, leaving the reader wanting more, if you know what I mean. Her candid and clever quips, coupled with real stories from real women, make this book a must-read for every woman. And, Guys, with a title like that, what can it hurt?

Customer Reviews:
It's okay to love your dog..........2007-05-22
...but you shouldn't LOVE your dog.
I don't know why I purchased this (morbid curiosity?). I knew exactly what it was about and I passed over it for months before I finally broke down and ordered it.
The title story is about a love affair between a dog and his master. While the drawings were nice (I must admit that Kuro in human form was beautiful! I could have looked at page after page of him in various poses and been a happy-camper.); it was hard to get past the fact that it was a love affair between a dog and its master...a dog...a...DOG?! There was absolutely nothing sexy about this story (aside from the fact that humanoid Kuro was one marvelous piece of eye candy). Kuro was a dog, who acted like a dog even when they were doing the nasty. I have a dog; that's not sexy to me! Aside from the fact that Kuro as a human was really hot; I wouldn't exactly call this story engrossing.
The second pairing is mostly why I gave this book 3 stars (that and Kuro in human form *sigh* soo cute...soo, soo cute...). What could have been a run-of-the-mill tale of childhood friends growing up to become lovers was given a little twist and told with more flair than I expected after reading that sucky first story. This manga-ka really seems to excel at those close-up drawings of the characters faces (ie, the first time Kuro takes human form...and almost every other page he is in human form; Kentaro when he is looking in the mirror and preparing to meet the adult "Kasumi-chan"; Kasumi on the park bench). They are extremely expressive and even Kuro gains a little depth (and did I mention how cute he is?). And Kuro's cameo in "Pinpoint Lovers" was a cute touch.
The third pairing barely deserves a mention. It was some nonsense about a goldfish that turns into a long-haired girly-boy. Who cares?! And, BTW, I like my men to look like men.
Whenever I pick-up this book, I flip through the first story to look at the pretty pictures of Kuro in human form (I refuse to waste my time reading the story again); then I read "Summers Here Again" and "Pinpoint Lovers" (if only Kasumi and Kentaro's story had been longer); and then, I put the book back on the shelf (the third pairing doesn't even exist as far as I am concerned).
Bestiality and Cartoons.......2007-05-21
The artwork in this volume is extremely interesting, and the stories are cute, although many of them do involve sex with animals.
More comedy than romance, but still good!.......2007-04-29
To me, the main story was missing some more development, more seriousness, more romance. I was also disappointed that it wasn't more explicit, but I liked this book anyway. The cute comedy makes it alright as is. The art is pretty good too. Not so much the faces, in my opinion, but the physiques. The story about the childhood friends was pretty good and doesn't leave you hanging, but I wanted to read more anyway. The goldfish story wasn't bad. It was short, which is probably perfect for a story about a weird, dream-like one-night stand, but also left me wanting more. I suppose that's the sign of a good story, but very frustrating indeed. Other reviewers recommended Wild Rock. It's been a long while since I read that, but I remember liking it. And it has the same great art. As far as girly "uke" (the person being "pursued") go - I don't prefer them, but there's A LOT of them in yaoi manga. So you have to get used to it or severely limit your yaoi intake. And you know you want your yaoi!
Bestiality again!?.......2007-04-11
Quit it with the bestiality already!!! I mean...ahem...if that's what you're into, this is definitely for you. First a dog, then a goldfish...it's got you covered. I have to admit, I've owned my copy ever since it was first released and haven't wanted to sell it yet. But that's because I absolutely LOVE the second story (hence the 3 stars). I mean a super-hot uke that not only has attitude, but also enough guts to stand up for himself: You know you've got me sold.
I'm not even gonna comment on the first and third story; but the second one makes it almost worth buying. The art is great and both men are drawn incredibly masculine (no girly guys here). Yes, it's kinda predictable and waa~ay too short. But it was nice. So my advice to you: if you've got extra cash, OR if there's a really good deal, get it. At the end, there's an extra bonus with a detailed interview that gives you an inside look at the making of the author's other book, Wild Rock. So let that be your incentive to help you decide if you really want it or not
An okay yaoi.......2007-04-08
The first story about Ukyo and Kuro is pretty good, funny, and decent art. It's not rape, like one reviewer sad, and it's plenty interesting. It's a bit weird, since Kuro is definitely a dog, who just happens to be able to change into a pretty hot man, but his mind is still fairly animalistic and basic.
The second story is good, great art, good story, angsty and all that if you're into that. About reunited boyhood friends who are more than friends.
The third story was fairly weak in my opinion, about a fish who can turn into a VERY girly looking boy. I'm not into super girly boys, so this story was not very interesting to me. And it was really short, with very little development.
As a whole, worth a read, but nothing super fantastic. Just kind of fun!

Customer Reviews:
Great designs.......2007-09-02
I bought this book after seeing one of the hats on "Knitty Gritty" and was not disappointed. The designs are wearable and just beautiful, and instructions are clear and thoughtfully given. There are many sweater designs here that I will eventually knit up. Can't wait.
Something for all experience levels.......2007-03-01
I love this book! It's as simple as that. I love the dogs (how did the photographer get them to do that?), I love to look at the handsome (the "take home to met the folks" type) male models, and most of all I love the patterns. There is something for every experience level, from small/easy dog toys to a sweater that incorporated cables AND fair isle, which will be my first project as soon as I finish my current project. (I can't wait) I've read a few tutorials in the front of a few knitting books in my time, and this one is very well written, with easy to understand sizing charts for men and for dogs, both of which can be hard to find.
You won't be disappointed.
A great one for your knitting library.......2007-02-28
It is so hard to get decent knitting patterns for men --this book delivers. The doggie patterns are cute too.
Love the book!.......2007-02-28
I currently have no family of the four legged variety (does one count a crawling baby?) but I have plenty of plans for the mens patterns! Snatched this from my local B&N as soon as it came out, and I love it. Definetely recommend!
it's ok.......2007-01-10
men's fashion has always been disappointing, and men's knitting projects are no exception. try as they may to push the envelope, most of the designs look acceptable for heathclif huxtable and no one else. a few of the patterns have potential if you change yarns from those suggested, but there really isn't anything here that you can't find in every other men's knitting books.
overall, it's just ok. not a lot to get excited about.

Customer Reviews:
[3.5]--These stories will touch a chord in your heart........2006-11-13
I thoroughly enjoyed some of the stories in this book; it took me one day to read it. I especially like the fact that each story portrayed black men positively...men who were trying to right their wrongs and accept responsibility. The stories were well written and the plots were easy to follow, all while still being erotic and semi-erotic in some cases.
In Brenda Jackson's "Strictly Business," we have Gina who has a gig that could make or break a writer's career who involves spending a week interviewing a handsome, ambitious and ruthless Texas millionaire--who's also her ex-husband. I love Brenda's work but this one really didn't captivate me the way it should, it sort of drag in some spots but speed up in a few places that shouldn't.
"Catch Me If You Can" by Cindi Louis. We have Lonzell and Leesa who plan to marry just before he goes overseas serving in the military. Leesa becomes pregnant but she is unable to contact her beloved. Several years later he returns home to find single mother Leesa raising their son and learns how his mother kept them apart. I have to say that this story was the best out of the bunch; from start to finish it had me glued and I just wish it had been a full blown story. It really captured my heart.
"Promises and Vows" by Felicia Mason. After three years of marriage, Jerome and Elise head towards divorce as both pushes their respective careers before their relationship. They sleep in separate rooms until his voodoo-practicing Aunt arrives for a visit. Jerome vows to use any form of magic to save his relationship with his beloved. This story was okay even though the plot was unrealistic but the passion was well felt. I've never read anything from this author and probably give her a try when the time comes.
"Kidnapped" by Kayla Perrin. In Fort Lauderdale Jamal crashes the wedding, abducts Nia before vows are exchanged, he is determined to prove to her that there's no better man for her than him. This story was interesting but ended up being another story that was unrealistic to me. I respect Kayla's work but I felt it could have been better. There were a lot of touchy moments between these two as well as the craze.
The characters again were interesting, story lines were captivating but most importantly the book was soundly written. I couldn't put it down at all it was full of love, lust, lies, pain, happiness and some big time freaks in love. In the other hand if you're looking for raw, raunchy sex scenes, sorry, this book has WAY more substance than that. "The Best Man" is really a fantastic book especially for those lazy weekends.
This one I have not read yet!.......2006-03-21
I have not read this book yet but I'm sure it is great! With a
writer like Brenda Jackson, how could it not be!
So very sexy.......2006-03-16
All four stories in this book were excellently written, and as I read them, I could relate to the characters in each story. That is how I know I've read a wonderful book..when I can relate to the characters.
Sizzling novellas..........2006-03-01
I purchased this book primarily because I'm a big Brenda Jackson fan. However, I must say that after reading Kayla's, Cindi's and Felicia's novels...I've just added three more authors to my reading list. Each novel was sexy, hot and left me aching for more to read. The men in each story, were strong, sensitive, sexy and determined to love their women. Jamal in particular was edgy as all get out and oh so sexy! The women were femininine, independent and strong. This was a wonderful read and I'm glad I read ALL the novels. It was time WELL spent! Much respect to all the sistahs!
Good stories - Brenda Jackson's was the best!.......2005-07-02
I got this book mainly because one of the novellas was written by Brenda Jackson. She didn't let me down. "Strictly Business" was anything but. The story of Regina and Mitch couldn't have been told any better. Regina is Trevor Grant's sister for those of you who've read "Fire and Desire".
I also liked "Promises and Vows" by Felicia Mason. "Kidnapped" had some hot love scenes but a weak plot. "Catch Me If You Can!" was a pretty fogettable story in my opinion.
All in all I would suggest that Brenda Jackson fans pick up this book.
Book Description
Psychologists and best-selling authors John and Linda Friel have written an enormously readable and infinitely practical book that delves into what makes a relationship enduringly successful. Wherever readers are in their own relationships, this book can improve those relationships dramatically, bringing them immediate and lasting benefits. In the tradition of their bestseller, The 7 Worst Things (Good) Parents Do, the authors examine the behaviors that happy, effective couples display continually. After careful investigation, the Friels synthesized years of clinical work into a manageable list of the most significant patterns of behavior couples must address and embrace if they want to become truly great couples. Recognizing that other patterns and behaviors certainly do exist, when patients come the Friels for help, the core issues illustrated in this book are discussed as the couples move boldly toward improving their relationships-with consistently outstanding results. The authors found that they had not seven, but eight, key items to identify. Here are a few: Be Sexual Be Willing To Divorce Manage Your Fear, Hurt, Shame, And Loneliness Own Your Part (be responsible for creating a great relationship)
Customer Reviews:
Not worth buying.......2007-04-08
I never write reviews because I recognize that one person's junk is another's gem. This book was so bad, though, that I just had to write a review this time. I agree with jimmieb. This book was poorly written with little worth reading. I could probably reduce the book to 10 pages (probably less, I'm trying to be generous) of worthwhile advice. Much of the writing was quoted from other psychologists and authors or from their previous books with very little original thought. Having finished the book this morning, I can only remember one of the "7 Best Things". This book is going in the trash and that's the ultimate insult from this bibliophile.
This Book Truly Focuses on What is Essential to Making A Good Lasting Relationship.......2007-02-15
It is unfortunate that the first reviewer of this book is so negative. She (he?) states that it is poorly written but never gives concrete examples of the poor writing. The reviewer says the book is poorly organized, but they begin with chapters identifying what constitutes a healthy/happy relationship and what does not. Most of us grew up on TV and movies to inform us about romance, but rarely showing how people effectively manage the trickier day to day coping and growing in a marriage.
The Friels begin by setting the record straight about what can we realistically expect. How do we make our selves feel good with that very imperfect partner of ours. One way is by owning our own part of the problems. Much easier for any of us to talk about than to really act on. The book is divided up into sections that cover points that I think most of have to learn about, because these ideas are not common knowledge. A couple examples are entitled, Be Willing to Divorce, and Let Disappointment Enrich You. The first reviewer seems to think that the book's ideas are too warm and fuzzy. I would suggest that if you have the courage and ability
to really understand the depth of what they are saying, you have an opportunity to make profound changes in your relationship. And if you end up with more warm and fuzzy feeling in your relationship, since most of have enough frustration, wouldn't more warm and fuzzy feelings be a good thing?
A little okay advice overshadowed by bad writing.......2006-01-15
I'm not much of a reader of self-help books. This may actually be my first. I was browsing all the nether-regions of Borders, and it was featured in the self-help section. I thought it couldn't hurt to know the "secrets." I didn't expect to find stellar writing, but this seemed particularly bad. It's poorly organized, jumping from topic to topic, tangent to tangent, and often not tying any of it together. While some of the advice is insightful, the writing is bad enough to be distracting. The authors go to the trouble of making up dialogue to illustrate examples, but it is melodramatic and sounds like nothing anyone would actually say. Every positive example seems to end with people crying and being overcome with a feeling of great warmth. I felt like the amount of actual wisdom in this book could be condensed into a magazine article.
This is a book I WANT to read again and again!.......2002-09-03
7 Best Things ought to be a number 1 best seller! I thought I knew a few things about relationships, but until reading this book I was in emotional kindergarten. By the time I completed reading just half of 7 Best Things, my relationship quotient increased about 20 times.
After trying and trying and trying for years to deal with difficult issues in my marriage, nothing seemed to work. I was spinning my wheels. I read this book and, voila, I have confidence that this relationship will be positively resolved. Next time I'm invited to a wedding, 7 Best Things will be one of the gifts I buy. Wish I'd read it many years ago! It has given me the tools I need for my relationship. Other books haven't helped at all. My eyes have been opened. I now know what I didn't know before about having a fulfilling, adult relationship! Thank you, Linda and John Friel!!!!!
