5 out of 5 stars Can You Handle It?.......2007-10-10

I was absolutely taken by this novel's substance of love. It was hard for Vera to accept being loved by the heart of Taj. Being this was something out of the norm for her, she did the only thing she knew to do...push him away. This novel is filled with love, lust, and loneliness. I really, really enjoyed this story. This is one that should be a part of your library...

I could not stop reading this book it a real tear jerker! Aunt Cookie and Uncle Boy really make the book. Must read

5 out of 5 stars I Flipped Out!.......2007-04-11

This book was very entertaining in a happy way and sad way. Vera mother(Rowanda)is only 15 years old when she had her. Vera was born as a crack baby and put into the dumpster by Rowanda. Her Grandmother tried to raise her but she was a dope fiend also. Her grandmother dead on her and her mother gave her to Children Services.

But Auntie Cookie rescue her (saves her life)after she is put into children services. Her auntie rescue her from the system but not from her past. The more she tries to hate her mother for what she did to her. Auntie Cookie tells her and teaches her that "Whatever you may feel or say that is still your mother, regardless."

Vera finds herself unable to love because of her mother past and present actions until she runs across a doctor by the name of Taji. She puts him through pure Hell until she comes to grab with her demons.

Rowanda finds herself wanting her daughter love so bad that she cleans herself up to find rejection on the other ends that leads her back to the world of drugs.

This leave a part 2-Game Over-Which I have ordered already and waiting for it to come.

Book Description

Flip Flippen is the most influential man you've never heard of. This personable Texan is the founder of The Flippen Group, one of the fastest-growing corporate and personal training companies in America, and his philosophy has touched the lives of some of the most powerful individuals in the country--from Wall Street leaders to top sports figures like Terry Bradshaw and his NASCAR team, and from Joel Osteen's team at Lakewood Church to the 150,000 people who trained with Flip's company in 2005. Great advice for everyone, but particularly appealing to those who are taking stock of what they want to do with the rest of their lives, Flippen's approach is surprisingly simple. When we learn how to identify our "personal constraints" and take the necessary steps to correct self-limiting behaviors, we will experience a dramatic surge in productivity, achieve things we have only dreamed of, and find greater happiness overall. Flippen has created a simple process to help readers find their greatest constraint (the results may be surprising!) and build a plan to help "flip" that weakness into a newfound strength.

5 out of 5 stars Practical and actionable... recommended read........2007-09-12

Talking about capitalizing on a name... :) The Flip Side: Break Free of the Behaviors That Hold You Back by Flip Flippen. This was a book I picked up on in one of the personal productivity blogs I follow, and it is one of the most practical, easy-to-understand books on personal change that I've read recently. Even better, he goes into how *you* can react and respond more effectively to each personality type. And trust me, you'll find your problem coworker/friend/acquaintance in here with no problem. :)

Part 1 - Understanding Personal Constraints: Something Is Holding You Back; The Foundations of OPC (Overcoming Personal Constraints); The Five Laws of Personal Constraints; Overview - The Top 10 Killer Constraints
Part 2 - Identifying Personal Constraints: #1 - Bulletproof (Overconfident); #2 - Ostriches (Low Self-Confidence); #3 - Marshmallows (Overly Nurturing); #4 - Critics (Too Demanding, Nitpicky, or Harsh); #5 - Icebergs (Low Nurturing); #6 - Flatliners (Low Passion, Vision, or Drive); #7 - Bulldozers (Overly Dominant); #8 - Turtles (Resistant to Change); #9 - Volcanoes (Aggressive, Angry); #10 - Quick Draw (Low Self-Control, Impulsive)
Part 3 - Overcoming Personal Constraints: Building Your TrAction Plan; Constraints Are Personal - My Story; Personal-Constraint Combinations; OPC Starts at Home; OPC in the Workplace; Personal Constraints and Culture; Listening to What Others Say - The Power of Honest Feedback
Conclusion - Raised in Captivity; Next Steps; Acknowledgments; Index

I'm sure glad I don't have any of these... NOT! :)

Each of the constraint chapters uses a couple of examples (some historical, some personal from the author's work) to show how a particular trait can play out and limit one's effectiveness. This is followed by the "Are You ..." checklist, which has 10 questions you can ask yourself to see where you fall in terms of that constraint. If you're on the high end of the scale, you'll be interested in the "So I'm ... Help Me!" section that follows. That's where Flippen lays out specific actions you can take to change this part of your behavior. Even better, that section is followed by a "How Can I Deal With A ... Person?". That's where you get to find out what types of communication and actions you can take to make your interactions with that personality type go better. The goal isn't to change them (although that would be nice), but it's more like survival skills so you don't get caught in the debris and aftermath of their limitations.

And in case you're wondering, I have marshmellow-y tendencies with a little flatliner and turtle thrown in...

I think that any book that helps you categorize or examine your behaviors can have a positive influence. The Flip Side seems to work better than most in that you don't have to struggle to see yourself or others in the scenarios, and the advice and actions are concrete and do-able. If you're looking to kick things up another level in your life (or avoid kicking someone else in frustration), I'd recommend this book...

5 out of 5 stars My first boyfriend.......52 years later!.......2007-08-08

I was walking through the book store a few weeks ago and saw The Flip Side on display. I was astonished to discover the author was my first boyfriend!

I bought the book because Flip wrote it. I was so delighted to discover that it offered insightful, practical advice on how to overcome my personal constraints to become the person I have always wanted to be.

The stories Flip relates reveal his warm, loving and humorous personality. He is open and honest with us about himself and his own life and encourages us to do the same thing with ours.

Flip's book is not just another self-help one that will gather dust on your bookshelf. He offers a plan based on his 30+ years of counseling experience with the tools to implement change in your life....if you just do it! It worked for him and it is working for me.

Thanks, Flip, for showing up in my life again in such a truly miraculous way!

5 out of 5 stars A readily accessible guide to improving one's strengths through recognizing and turning around one's weaknesses........2007-08-07

Written by head of The Flippin Group and expert motivational coach Flip Flippen, The Flip Side: Break Free of the Behaviors That Hold You Back is a no-nonsense self-help guide to identifying how personal constraints and often unconscious restrictions can hold one back from one's full potential. Breaking free of those restraints and learning to "flip" negative thoughts and behaviors into positive ones form the core of The Flip Side. Negative personality-driven trait types are listed and range from "bulldozers" (too dominant, ignoring all dissenting options) to "marshmallows" (too nurturing, avoiding conflict at the expense of their happiness) and "quick draws" (too impulsive, with poor self-control). A readily accessible guide to improving one's strengths through recognizing and turning around one's weaknesses.

5 out of 5 stars FlipSide - Up to Flipping.......2007-07-24

As a believer in the process of self-reflective therapy, Flip has provided substantial direction and real-world situations to see that we all have personal areas that keep us from our best. I especiallly appreciated the opportunity and recommendation to take one step at a time and reclaim our best qualities.

The Flip Side: Break Free of the Behaviors That Hold You Back

I highly recommend this book for those who have found they have other roads to travel but have made personal road blocks that only the individual can remove.

5 out of 5 stars Flip Side can change your life.......2007-06-04

I'll be totally up front. I know Flip Flippen, I've worked with him and benefited from his God-given talents. So maybe it doesn't surprise you that I give The Flip Side a 5-star rating.

Within these pages are the keys to unlocking your full potential and from a different perspective - Flip talks about removing the constraints that limit your upside, unlike many who take the angle of building on your strengths.

The book is easy to read, but difficult to implement. You must be fully committed to being honest with yourself. The more you put into the process, the more benefits you will reap from it - no surprise there. Flip's engaging stories will tug on your heart strings and encourage the brutal honesty that is necessary for growth.

Anyone with an open mind and a desire to be better tommorrow than they are today - at work, at home, in the community - will find this book a winner.

Book Description

Trystan Lightfoot allowed herself to love once in her life; the experience broke her heart and strengthened her resolve never to fall in love again. At forty, however, she still longs for the comfort of a woman's arms. She finds temporary solace in meaningless, albeit adventuresome encounters, burying her pain and her emotions deep inside where no one can reach. No one, that is, until she meets C.J. Winslow. C.J. Winslow is the model-pretty-but-aging professional tennis star the Women's Tennis Federation is counting on to dispel the image that all great female tennis players are lesbians. And her lesbianism isn't the only secret she's hiding. A traumatic event from her childhood is taking its toll both on and off the court. Together Trystan and C.J. must overcome their challenges to find the flip side of desire.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Drama! Heartbreak!.......2007-02-12

Everyone and everything has two sides. So which side do you choose?

Tennis star, C.J. Winslow, is beautiful, talented and aging in a sport that is quick to be cruel to those that are. CJ has suddenly found herself in the unenviable position of no longer being at the top of her sport. However, she was number one once and she is determined to be again. Now all she has to do is make some hard changes...to her game and to her life. Will CJ be able to do what is necessary? Even if it means that she has to put business before loyalty and friendship?

Sports physical therapist, Trystan Lightfoot has been brought in by the women's professional tennis organization to treat CJ and the other female players on tour. At the top of her profession Trystan seems to have it all --all that is, except personal happiness. Trystan has been badly scarred by an unrequited love, a memory she can't seem to let go of.

Mistrustful of each other in the beginning, CJ and Trystan find they must band together when an event from CJ's past collides with her present. It's obvious that life caused the paths of both women to cross. Could it be to bring Trystan a chance to love someone who'll love her back? Or perhaps, to help CJ learn that being true to one's self is the most important goal of all? Will defenses long held be lowered enough to let either of these things happen? Will strangers become friends? Friends become lovers?

Lynn Ames is a talented writer with a proven track record who enthralled readers with her intensely dramatic Kate and Jay series, The Price of Fame, The Cost of Commitment and The Value of Valor. With her fourth book introducing two new dynamic characters in Trystan and CJ, Ms. Ames proves that her track record is most definitely still intact.

4 out of 5 stars New Treatment of an Old Story.......2006-12-18

Trystan Lightfoot is a successful closeted physical therapist. C.J. Winslow is a successful closeted professional tennis player. When they meet and fall in love, their lives become complicated by their social environment, in which intolerance for lesbians and gays is prevalent and fierce.

This story has been told countless times --- the unfortunate necessity of having to choose between a career in the closet vs. a crap-shoot out of the closet. With over half of the Fortune 500 companies now offering domestic partner benefits and with more and more celebrities coming out all the time, hopefully the story will become passé in the very near future. Until then, it is satisfying to read once again about how people face the situation bravely and with dignity.

The choices that Trystan and C.J. must make really aren't simple or straightforward, as the author brilliantly shows. She portrays the theme with grace and understanding. I felt good after finishing this book, and what more could a person ask of a book? Kudos to Ms. Ames.

4 out of 5 stars Inspiring Story.......2006-12-15

"The Flip Side of Desire" by Lynn Ames is the sensitively told story of two women who, for different reasons, have avoided emotional entanglement and devoted themselves to their careers. Believing it to be incompatible with professional success, C.J. Winslow, a famous professional tennis player in her mid-thirties, has never had an emotional relationship. Although presumed by her fans to be heterosexual, C.J. has in fact never experienced a strong sexual attraction to anyone of either sex --- until she meets Trystan Lightfoot.

A heart-shattering experience at a young age has left Trystan determined never to become emotionally involved again. She has turned her back on love and dedicated her efforts to establishing a successful career as a physical therapist. Her "love life" consists of an endless string of one-night stands --- until she meets C.J. Winslow.

Both women find the almost immediate magnetism between them unexpected and puzzling. Unsure of why she is drawn to Trystan, C.J. haltingly follows her instinctual need to be near her. When Trystan first recognizes the nature of her feelings for C.J., she struggles in vain to resist, knowing that the implications are potentially devastating.

As they grow inevitably closer, Trystan and C.J. must face a painful conflict. The lure of love collides with the reality of the social consequences and probable destruction of both women's careers. The gist of the story is how two brave women meet real-life challenges, and the author does a great job of showing the inner conflict and eventual resolution.

The only drawback is the lack of detail about Trystan's traumatic past love affair. Most of us have had disastrous break-ups in our youth, but they did not cause us to swear off all future relationships. Telling why it affected Trystan so drastically would give a more in-depth understanding of her character.

For me this was an inspiring story and a wonderful read. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars A compeling story.......2006-07-13

C.J. Winslow is an aging tennis champion. In the world of tennis, that means she's thirty-four years old. C.J. was once the number one ranked female player in the world and has been the sport's favorite poster child for many years, but younger players with faster games have begun to pass her by. She believes she can be on top again, but it means changing her game and the people who surround her. This won't be easy, but she knows she can do it because she is the consummate professional, forsaking everything else in her life to achieve what she wants. C.J. realizes she is lonely, but a happier personal life can wait for after she retires from the game and she's not ready for that yet.

Trystan Lightfoot is a professional also. She has built her reputation as a physical therapist by being a nomad and moving around between professional sports teams. Now the Women's Tennis Federation has hired her to be the full time therapist for the members of the tour and she has achieved the pinnacle of her career, if not personal happiness. Trystan has built another reputation along the way as a woman who enjoys one night stands and who forms no permanent attachments to anyone. Many years before her heart was broken so badly that she has no interest in opening herself up to anyone again. She doesn't know that she's about to meet someone who will challenge all of her beliefs about what she wants out of life.

C.J. and Trystan are drawn to each other by a mutual love, a love of sport. C.J. has a goal and Trystan wants to help her achieve it. As they work together, they experience confusing feelings. Confusing for C.J. because she's never had any type of relationship, plus she knows that she's been promoted through the years as the proof that not all women in sports are lesbians. Confusing for Trystan because she finds C.J. becoming more important in her life when she has vowed that she would never let anyone do that again. A relationship threatens both of their careers, but threatens more their self-images of who they are. Whether or not they can bring together all of these aspects in a satisfying manner becomes the crux of the story.

OK, The Flip Side of Desire is a romance. And it's not an original story. However, that doesn't matter this time. There is an atmosphere in this book that draws the reader in and makes you want to keep turning the pages. Ames uses language so masterfully that you develop a true feeling of understanding for both of these characters. Unlike many romances that can just be read through, this is one of those rare books where you begin to feel the emotions of the characters and you get immersed in the story. The attraction happens perhaps too quickly, a common occurrence in many books, and Trystan's character would be easier to relate to if there was more about the relationship that tormented her so badly, but these are minor points in the story. This is a very satisfying book to read on a number of levels, including that it presents an interesting view of women's professional sports and creates the impression that this could be a true to life story.

5 out of 5 stars Beyond romantic ..........2006-07-03

The best novel so far from this author. The writing is terrific. The depth of emotion and rawness of the feelings of the characters come through beautifully. The pacing is perfect - I did not want to stop reading and skipping ahead was not an option. Fabulous first chapter that pulled me right in and I knew when I read it I would want to finish the book that day.

CJ is one of the bravest heroines in fiction. The way she throws her heart out for the first time not certain what the reception would be is inspiring.

`Terribly beautiful' seems the right description of the scene where CJ opens up to Trystan as she has no one else in her past.

Trystan is beautifully caring of CJ. The emotions between CJ and Trystan are wonderfully portrayed. The couple are beautiful and sexy and passionate.

Grant & Mitch are great addition to the plot. Many times gay male characters seem to me to read like caricatures and they most certainly were not.

I loved the ending. It was triumphant! I will be thinking about the story for some time to come.

PS - Despite what CJ thinks, Newark Airport is terrific - lol

Book Description

Steve Silverman was looking for a way to add some spice to his high school lectures when he realized that weird and bizarre true-life stories would capture his students' attention. In fact, they worked so well that the science teacher then began posting his discoveries to his own Web site, which he dubbed Useless Information. Well-researched and clearly sourced, Silverman's unusual tidbits have gained a wide following. In Einstein's Refrigerator, Silverman collects more than 30 of the most fascinating stories he has gathered-tales of forgotten genius, great blunders, and incredible feats of survival, as well as answers to puzzling questions. Einstein's Refrigerator is a remarkable book with spellbinding stories. Whatever happened to the refrigerator Einstein helped invent? While it never became a commercial success, its underlying concepts became the basis for cooling nuclear breeder reactors.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Truth is stranger than fiction..........2005-07-31

I have enjoyed reading this sort of stuff ever since I was a kid and that's 60 years ago. This book is a bunch of short articles about people and things that have happened in somewhat recent history ,which will never appear in history textbooks, but very interesting nonetheless. If you read some of the other reviews, you'll see what some of these things are. There are about 30 weird items covered in the book. So,no need for me to repeat.
The interesting thing to someone like me who has enjoyed this sort of thing is what has changed so much by the people who dig up and publish this stuff.
I first got interested in this trivia by reading Ripley's Believe It or Not!.His cartoons were a daily and weekly sort of thing in newspapers and read by just about everyone. He was the real inventor of this popular interest;that is he more than anyone else ,made it so popular. He travelled the world searching out the unbelievable, and because of that he was known as "The Modern Day Marco Polo".I have several dozen of his books and there are many Ripley museums and now even TV shows.Ripley was one of the most well known people and most interesting characters in the western world. There were many others who published similar stuff ;but none even came close to the 'master'.
A couple of things are interesting about this book.First ,the author is a relatively unknown and in no sense the 'bigger than life character' that Ripley was.Ripley had to travel the globe or depend on people to send him material. No need to do that anymore.A person needs only access to the net ,and away he goes.If you read something in Ripley,s,that would be about the end of it.Further information would be very diffult to come by,especially if one lived in a small town. With the sories in this book the author gives a lot of references which would lead one on to many ,many more, all from your desk and the net.
The author has a terrific web site 'Steve Silverman's Useless Information'jam-packed with similar stories.Oh,by the way, even though your local newspaper probably no longer carries the Ripley's Believe It or Not cartoons ,there is an excellent Ripley's Website that does.
I am glad someone still publishes this stuff as I've had a ton of enjoyment over the years reading ;Stranger than Fiction,Greatest Inventions,World's Biggest Blunders,Weird but True,Did you Know?,World's Dumbest Inventions,World's dumbest Criminals,World's strangest Places, and on and on. However,Silverman has shown how the Net has made the amount of this information that is available, virtually limitless.
As with everything, when something new comes along, something old disappears.
With me,it's the characters like Ripley who are becoming the thing of the past, and I believe we are all a little poorer for it.

3 out of 5 stars Round Up the Usual Oddities: Useful for the Novice.......2004-01-24

This book would make an excellent introduction to those new to the field, but aficionados in trivia, historical curiosities, and other such lore are unlikely to find much here that they haven't read about elsewhere. Although the material is amusing in itself, this book is marred by two things. First of all, there are numerous factual blunders of an elementary nature (e.g. identifying "Wasser" as a Greek word) and a book like this obviously should be factually impeccable.

Secondly, Silverman's prose style is somewhat annoying. It is not hard to believe that his original audience was high school students. His efforts at wit are clearly tailored for a juvenile audience and occasionally make one wince with irritation (worst of all is his habit of ending every single chapter with the refrain "Useless? Useful? I'll leave that for you to decide.")

Jejune prose and puerile cracks are certainly the banes of this genre, as anyone with broad experience in trivia knows. In this way, Silverman isn't much different. Probably the best exception to this rule is Cecil Adams (_The Straight Dope_, q.v.), one of the pioneers of modern trivia writing. He writes for a more sophisticated (if not necessarily mature) audience, and his jokes are actually funny.

5 out of 5 stars a great book with interesting short stories.......2003-12-05

my brother passed this book on to me when he left for college, and i carelessly threw it on a shelf. then one day i picked it up and i was fascinated! it has so many interesting and true stories. i couldnt believe that i had let it sit on a shlef for so many months. just to give you a bit of the flavor of the book, heres some of the articles names (and they are as interesting as they sound!!) - the great boston molasses tragedy, mike the headless chicken, bat bombs, the baby derby - just to name a few! since reading it, i have lent it out to many of my friends, and they all agree that it is a great book.

5 out of 5 stars Mr. Silver is the very much best teacher ever........2003-06-02

I am exchange student, and I have mr silverman as my teacher of science in the 11th grade. He taght me that quarks come from a mommy and daddy, and that einstein liked to cook stuff and keep it cold. This book helped me learn to read better, with mr. silverman by my side the whole of the way.

Mr. silverman is also single and looking, ladies.

3 out of 5 stars The Flip Side of Urban Legends.......2002-01-04

Everyone has heard of urban legends, those absolutly true accounts of apocryphal events which are truer with every telling. Usually, they represent an exaggeration, a fabrication or an outright hoax. In Einstein's Refrigerator, author Silverman serves up a host of stories collected from his Useless Information web site that sound much like urban legens, but aren't; each is absolutely true and substantiated. Ever hear the one about the guy who attached helium balloons to a lawn chair, then used a rifle to pop the balloons one by one to descend? Really happened! Or the one about the salvage company that raised a sunken ship by filling it with millions of ping-pong balls, inspired by a Donald Duck comic book? Also happened! The volume suffers though from a lack of cohesion; it is less a book than a collection of anecdotes. As a collection of conversation-starters or bet-settlers the book is at least as good as the compilations of urban legends from Thomas J. Craughwell and others and a pleasant diversion for those odd moments of down time.

    Book Description

This is a psychological study of charmers, con artists, and their hidden alter-ego, the abusers -- how they got that way, various profile examples, and how to recover from their artistry of killing you softly with their charm.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars a must read.......2005-07-10

I read this book after getting a hand out in a recovery class. The hand out was on Charmers and Con Artist. It had this book title on it. I have never been so glad to have bought a book. If your in an abusive relationship or not you must read this book. You probably know someone who fits the profile and you will save yourself and others a lot of angish. Be enlightened know the signs, read this book.

I now know I have been in a relationship with a charmer for the past 11 years and trying to get this charmer out of my life for the past year and a half. It has been hard trying to convince myself and others that this person was not who they pretended to be... I fell in love with who this person wanted to be, who my charmer pretended to be, I wasn't allowed to see the REAL person until it was too late and then I didn't trust what I saw and felt.

it seemed no one believed this person could be like that. Too bad I couldn't invite the world behind our doors. But as I read this book I just knew my life was the case study. Thanks to this book, I'm learning to trust my judgements, my gut feelings and just because other people can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. I lived it, they are watching the made for TV version.

Now that I've read this book. I know better what I am dealing with, I can see the charmer characterists in business associates, relatives, they are everywhere. But, now I know what I'm dealing with and I can also see that 'my charmer' is turning the corner to con artist. Knowledge is the best weapon. Read this book and be prepared. You'll be glad you did.

    5 out of 5 stars Victims Understand.......2005-01-01

I would like to address the 'knightofthelance' reviewer. I appreciate your review; however, I think your statement that the author's admisssion that she has also been a victim and that you saw that as tainting her work with bitterness, etc., does not jell with so many other self-help books written by victims who finally 'see the light'. Most victims are encouraged by knowing the author knows whereof he/she speaks. To them, it lends further credibility to the author's understanding of the issue and greater insight to their own experience. I think the other reviews show that. This subject matter may not touch you as deeply if you have not been victimized. While you seem to try to be objective, victims are, of necessity, subjective. The feedback from them is that the message is water in the desert, validation that they are not crazy, and gives a ray of hope for recovery. For them, it is life changing.

4 out of 5 stars Subject matter long overdue!.......2003-04-19

I was a victim of the charmer/con artist/abuser. This book was detailed, informative and insightful. I could not put it down. My son now wants to read it after having me read several excepts aloud to him. As I read on the train to work, people would ask me where they could get the book (just from viewing the title). My one disappointment in the book, however, is that it didn't offer a viable and/or Spiritual manner of resolution to the problem. I plan to order two more for my Pastors.

2 out of 5 stars When good books go bad.......2002-02-18

This book starts out very well, with some good, specific information. Unfortunately, it goes downhill from there. The author makes a point of qualifying herself by saying she had fallen victim herself, and that's where the problem lies. The book starts out objectively, but quickly turns subjective with the author's feelings and bitterness leaking through and coloring her information. Am I sorry I bought it? No. It fits well into my extensive collection on con artists. Would I recommend it for the casual reader? No, or at least not without a big grain of salt.

5 out of 5 stars This Is One of The Most Important Books You'll Ever Read!.......2001-08-19

I read this book at the suggestion of my mother who sent one by mail to me with the admonition to drop everything else I was reading and concentrate solely on this. Charmers and con artists are not limited to one gender or the other. At one point or another, each of us has been taken in by a male or female "smooth talker." This book helps you to identify the characteristics so you don't become the same fool twice or even three times for that matter. The tools they use are universal. Discrediting credibility is first. Know that you're not crazy as they may imply. If it doesn't feel "good" then its not good. We need to start paying closer attention to the internal meter. It would save us a lot of headaches and heartaches. I have recommended this book to everyone that I can. I haven't run into anyone yet who didn't identify with what is written on the back cover. The information in this book will help you better understand how not to play into the charmer and con artists' hand. Read this book immediately if not sooner!

    5 out of 5 stars Attention Getter.......2007-03-29

This book was so good that I had to pull myself away from reading it and hated when it ended. That Veronica and Marlon were something else. I wanted to jump in the book and whip their you-know-what myself. Veronica was one heartless woman and there are no words to explain Marlon.

If you have not picked up this book, run and do it. You won't be disappointed.

    5 out of 5 stars A wonderful book.......2006-08-08

Earl is a great writer. Why do I say that? Because he does what gifted writers do. Expose those little nuances in life that say..."That is real, because it happened to me. How could he have known my secret?"

Next, character development. Earl wants you to know the people he is writing about. No mystery. No guess work.

Concerning the book, Earl has switched on us as readers. He has moved on from his sexually provocative experiences to a different genre of the human condition. He exposes the essence of unconditional love. Deserved or undeserved. I think most of us have felt the sting of this life experience. To be betrayed. To not receive that same love in return...to have the switch flipped on us. And for those who have not, this may be a shock to the system for uninitiated. To do something good for someone....just because. Stay tuned!

I would like to say more about Earl Sewell. He is adventurous with his writing. Willing to open doors that we are too willing to keep close. In his skills as a writer he shows courage, strength and confidence. We are being exposed to a writer that is developing and growing with each book. This is a writer that needs our undieing support so we can all feast in his words.

And to Earl I say...don't stop now. We have a long journey ahead.

    5 out of 5 stars Money?!?!.......2006-06-28

Tabetha finally has a husband that appreciates her and treats her good--and life could not be better--or could it? Gilbert, her current husband wants a child of his own, since he has practically raised her teenage son. But Tabetha's career is going great and she doesn't want to interrupt it to have a baby. Life is full of everyday situations that only money can fix! So, is the grass really greener on the other side? Earl Sewell writes a very realistic life situation.

5 out of 5 stars The Divas Only Book Club.......2006-03-15

This is the third book that I had read of this author. Every book that he has written that I have read is just great. The characters in this book came to life every time and keep you turning. I read this book in one day. Marlon-ex-husband-is off the hook, he is right down dirty. Gilbert-husband-is too trust worthy. Tabetha-wife-is beening pulled in two different directions. She didn't know if she wented a trust worthy husband or her ex-husband that is down right dirty. Veronica-sister of Gilbert-is a con artist that stoles from everyone to keep her Man-BMC from killing her. Keep up the good work Earl and God Bless you.

    4 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) - Looking back............2006-01-04

After being jilted by her first husband Marlon, who could barely make ends meet, Tabetha Murphy now happily married to Gilbert, couldn't ask for a better life. She has a man who loves her unconditionally, Rick her teenage son from her previous marriage and finally the career of her dreams. Her little perfect world is turned upside down when Gilbert reminds her that she made him a promise to one day have his child. She's not ready and for that matter, never will be; her only obstacle will be convincing Gilbert. However, now that Marlon, a self proclaimed millionaire with the means to provide her every need, makes known his intentions of getting his wife back, Tabetha decides to consider his offer.

Gilbert doesn't know what to do. He and Tabetha are having major problems and Rick is starting to disrespect him. His ex-con sister Veronica, who does nothing but uses people, needs him. To top things off, he finds out that Marlon suddenly decides that he wants his family back. Will Gilbert find the strength that he needs to fight for his marriage and sever family ties with Veronica or will Tabetha discover that the grass is not always greener on the other side?

I found Earl Sewell's THE FLIP SIDE OF MONEY to be a fast-paced and well-written novel. This novel delves into the lives of each character and the problems they each face. Sewell has written a wonderful novel about love, family and trust. As always, I look forward to reading titles by this very gifted author.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Excellent Format; Easy, Repetitious Puzzles.......2007-08-13

The format of this book is excellent. One puzzle per page provides ample room to work. The answers are on the flip side for ready reference, and the pages detach easily if you want to take just one or two with you. The book opens flat and has hard covers to lean on. Quality paper makes for easy erasing when necessary. If you're challenged by the beginning-of-the-week newspaper puzzles but don't like the accompanying lack of space and poor quality paper, you may like this book.

Unfortunately, the puzzles are much too easy for anyone who has worked through Peter Gordon's excellent "Mensa Guide to Solving Sudoku." Only basic techniques are required (one-choice, scanning, elimination, pairs, triplets). Don't expect X-wings or swordfishes, let alone advanced procedures such as forcing chains and XY wings. There isn't even much interaction, a technique commonly found in moderately difficult puzzles. In fact, the end-of-the-week newspaper puzzles (at least in my city) are significantly more challenging than the ones in this book.

    5 out of 5 stars Challenging puzzles!.......2007-07-28

This is a well put together book. The puzzles can either be kept together, or torn out of the book.

Puzzles are in large format (big grids) so there is space for notes.

A lot of interesting patterns formed by the "givens".

And lastly, the solution for each puzzle is on the back of the page it's on.

The puzzles can be easy to solve, or hard to solve. There are no difficulty ratings.

There is a book called "Crosswords on the Flip Side", and a book called "Super Sudoku on the Flip Side"

5 out of 5 stars Really Good Sudoku Book.......2007-07-13

The best feature about this book is that it opens upward and you don't have to worry with keeping the book open to do the puzzle. So, it's the next best thing to a spiral bound book. Also, the pages are thick and of good quality, making it easy to erase without a lot of smudges. The puzzles are in big and bold print and the answers can be easily found on the back of the puzzle (which is good considering I don't like flipping to the back of the book and verifying solutions). So, if you're looking for a good Sudoku book, this is the one. The only con I have is that the puzzles are not rated in their level of difficulty, otherwise, good book.

    5 out of 5 stars I wanted another - so far it's the only one - boo........2006-10-12

I came to Amazon hoping to find this was a series of books - no such luck - so just like another reviewer, I may buy the same book again. The paper is excellent as one can erase and marks seem darker and easier to read. Those newspaper books get annoying for Sudoku figuring! The answers to each puzzle is right "on the flip side" so if you want to check a digit quickly, it's a piece of cake. Also real fun is the patterns that the author sets up - often as you solve, you'll see other patterns evolve - cool!

    5 out of 5 stars My Favorite!.......2006-10-11

This is my favorite Sudoku book of all - and I have a bunch! The best part of this book is not just the hard cover, but the puzzles are large enough to make readable notes and erasable without creating dirty, smeared pages. The puzzles (not rated) are hard enough to be interesting yet easy enough to keep me from throwing the book in the trash out of frustration! I may even buy the book again just for the comfort of its size, layout and quality of paper. I mean, like who can remember a sudoku puzzle solution from a week ago? Not me! A great change from crosswords and logic puzzles.

      Book Description

A Journey to Hell and Back: The Flip Side is the third text in author Charlotte Russell Johnson's series of motivational books. Ms. Johnson true to form has developed a surprisingly unique book. The two major characters alternate narration of the story. This literary technique serves to mesmerize and hold the reader spellbound. Two separate individuals on parallel descents into hell collide violently, the force of which serves as a catalyst to accelerate their demise. Then just as all visible signs of hope evaporate, in a surprising plot twist surpassing Faulkner's As I Lay Dying, the text evolves into a completely different direction.

The Flip Side expands on Ms. Johnson's previous text, A Journey to Hell and Back, an autobiographical account of the author's life. The Flip Side further explores the author's life, while also giving the parallel and sometimes contrasting account of Ms. Johnson's husband, Henry. The text begins with the lives of two separate individuals in preparation for their first encounter and then chronicles their following union. This book is appealing to a wide and varied audience, including those preparing for marriage, divorce, raising a family, or a part of a family, involved in or getting out of a relationship, recovering from past mistakes, parenting, or in contact with any of these groups. This book humorously pokes fun at life's everyday problems. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson provide unique and sometimes competing perspectives of their life together. The text provides an insightfully honest portrait of the differing perspectives of a married couple. The varying interpretations of major events serve to keep the reader enchanted with the text. After reading this text the reader will wonder how often they have misunderstood the intention of others. The Johnson's invite you to decide what is the actual truth. They say there are two versions of every story and then there's the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Flipped Me Out.......2005-11-09

I was totally amazed that the Flipside could exceed Ms. Johnson original book a Journey to Hell and Back. I loved the way each chapter had two sides to give you a holistic view of their relationship. This book provides a different side of Ms.Johnson. I expected the infomation about Ms. Johnson to be redundant. Fortunately, I was wrong. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have had very interesting lives. I recommended this book or those who like romance with realistic adventure.
