OUTSTANDING REFERENCE TOOL.......2007-09-14

Previously, DK Books has release four volumes in their Star Wars cross-sections series, covering the various Star Wars films. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, they've now combines all four of those volumes, along with new illustrations into the massive Star Wars: The Complete Cross Sections. This coffee table-sized hardcover book packs information on every ship and vehicle used in the six films into 152 full-color pages. John Knoll, the Visual Effects Supervisor for episodes I - III, provides the foreword to the book.

The book is basically an encyclopedia for Star Wars ships and vehicles. The items are shown in a cutaway art, allowing the reader to not only see the outside, but also see the interiors as well. This gives fans a unique viewpoint as you generally didn't get a chance to see inside many of these ships and vehicles in the films themselves. Most of these are given a full two-page spread which include data files about each one. The data files provide information such as design and manufacture, wingspan, speed, crew capacity, armament, dimensions, ship or vehicle type, and other special features.

The book begins with Episode I, The Phantom Menace with each of the first three episodes getting their own chapter while the original three films are combined into the last chapter. In addition to the data files, a host of other information is provided on each vehicle as well. Text keys with map lines are drawn to each, pointing out important features of each vehicle. These are about the next best thing to the actual ships blueprints. The detail is simply amazing! On the Naboo Cruiser for example we see where the fuel tanks and fuel lines are located, along with coolant ducts, deflector shield projectors, sensor arrays and even mundane things such as the crew lounge and locker areas. These allow the reader to get inside these massive vehicles and ships and almost take a virtual tour through them.

Get up close and personal with Jango Boba Fett's heavily armed Slave I ship with its blaster cannons, laser cannons, missile launchers, and mine layers. Other ships included from the episodes I to III include Padme's Starship, ARC -170 Fighter, General Grievous's Wheel Bike, Pod Racers, and Palpatine's Shuttle.

The final chapter dealing with the three original films has certainly the most popular ships for fans including the Millennium Falcon, AT-AT Walker, Jabba's Barge, and Darth Vader's Tie Fighter. Several of the major ships and vehicles get fold out sections that provide four full pages worth of data. Chief among these is the first Death Star. The Slave I makes a second appearance here that includes the modifications made by Jango Fett's son, Boba.

Hats off to DK Books for also profiling the two artists whose brilliant work is on display here, Hans Jenssen and Richard Chasemore. The detail and effort that went into these drawings is truly phenomenal. This is one of those items that is tailor-made for the hardcore Star Wars fan, a reference tool that can be consulted over and over again.

People should get Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections.
Here are three reasons why anyone who likes Star Wars should get this book.

1. Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections includes information about ALL six episodes in one book. It's great to have it all in one volume instead of four separate books (Episodes I, II, III, and the Trilogy).

2. Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections has extra content not included in the separate volumes. The Imperial Shuttle, the RZ-1 A-Wing, and the B-Wing Star Fighter are new material in the combined book.

3. Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections is jam-packed with large full color illustrations and tons of fascinating facts. The pages are crowded, but the information is great.

The Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections book rules the galaxy and any Star Wars fan would just love to have a copy. I checked it out of the library, but now it's on my Christmas wish list!!

My 5 year old loves it!.......2007-08-11

I purchased this for my 5 year old because he loves Star Wars. We have a couple of other Star Wars guides. He loves the cross section book because "it shows all the ships and details and that's cool". He loves finding something small that I would have missed. Great book for all ages.

Not What I Expected But Great Nontheless.......2007-07-05

Don't know why but I was expecting technical drawings of the Star Wars vehicles. Instead I get beautiful drawings of the vehicles and some of the characters which was an unexpected plus. Especially for scale comparison with some of the bigger vehicles. The reason this item dose not get five stars from me is because when reading the book things can get somewhat confusing there is so much info on each page it practically spills out from the sides. I would recommend it to anybody who wants more information on their favorite Star Wars vehicles!

My son has not put this book away since we bought it. It goes on every car ride with us, and even to school for free time reading. The pictures are beautiful. He absolutely loves it.

Another great cross section book for Star Wars.......2005-09-14

I just recently received this book and all I can say is that it's the bomb! The pages are full of intricate details about both the vehicles and story of Episode II. The foldout of the Republic Dropship is definitely a highlight of the series. If you like Star Wars and want to know more than you can possibly imagine about Star Wars engineering, pick this book up right away.

This Star Wars Cross-sections book is a must-have for Star Wars fans. The detailed renderings of all the main vehicles in AOTC is as impressive as the companion for The Phantom Menace. The writer, Curtis Saxon, has obviously done a great deal of investigation for everything, with so many detailed drawings and fascinating notes. For curios of the inner workings of all the speeders and starships, this is indespensible. Great stuff.

Great Alone, Not so great trilogy.......2007-09-01

After reading the first two books I was very happy with my purchase. The story was great, the imagery was good, and it was deffinately controversial. The author doesn't hold back with the devistations that plague the earth wich makes it completely believable. I'd say worth reading except for the fact that I don't want to promote the third.

BeauSeigneur's Books Are a New Twist.......2006-07-28

I have read a lot of end-time books over the years, and I find Christ Clone Trilogy to be the best I have read. There are twists and new ways of seeing things all through his books. I have just finished the 3rd book of the trilogy after reading the other two and have found them more interesting and scarier than the Left Behind Series which I thought was a bit predictable and became somewhat boring. Not so these books! These books will make you think in a different way.

Continued logical but at points too detailed.......2006-06-15

The characters in the second book of the Christ Clone trilogy continued to develop well and in interesting ways. There is also a slight narrowing down of their numbers. The political possibilities are also flow logically. But the science starts to be too detailed and not cited especially with the first asteroid. We are still left wondering who is good and who is evil though those familar with the New Testament and Old Testament will figure it out faster.

Unlike the Left Behind series, Beauseigneur's depiction of the end times is presented in a way that is wholly plausable. Evil is shown as it truly is; subtle, bait & switch. His scientific explanations of the disasters as described in the Book of Revelation remove the mystery and show that yes, this can happen just as the Apostle John said it would. I recommend all three books in the series.

Since I was stressed out about some work stuff last night (and didn't end up getting any sleep), I plowed through the second book in the Christ Clone trilogy... Birth Of An Age by James Beauseigneur. I can definitely say it's better than the first one, and the story is starting to come together...

This volume picks up with the last chapter of the first book. Christopher Goodman, the person cloned from the cells found on the Shroud of Turin, has just finished his 40 days of solitude in the wilderness, and he's now ready to go back to the UN and start making changes. But on their way back to New York, a nuclear war erupts between India and Pakistan (and involves part of China), and many millions die. But that's just the start of the deaths. John the Apostle and Rabbi Cohen are prophesying major catastrophes (the ones normally associated with the Book of Revelations), and they start coming true. We have meteors devastating the planet, locusts, wide-spread madness, and poisoned water. Goodman sees these two individuals as necessary evil for mankind to advance to a new age of enlightenment, and he increasingly finds himself pitted against them. Right as he's poised to take over leadership of the UN, an assassin guns him down. But through miraculous events, he's resurrected and heads to Jerusalem to have a final confrontations with the prophets. Goodman declares himself the "anti-Christ" at that point, and has an interesting twist on the whole God/Satan conflict...

This book was somewhat shorter than the first one, and a lot of time is spent describing the natural disasters in fine detail. In fact, you go for long stretches with no mention whatsoever of Decker and Goodman. I was starting to wonder quite a bit about the theology of this series until the end of this book. Now things are more clear, and I'm following the general storyline. While still not the best End Times book/series I've ever read, it's starting to redeem itself...

The first two books were great and so was this one. That is up until the end. Worst possible ending. I was so dissapointed that I almost threw the book away, but I didn't think my trash can could hold that much garbage... ergh!

The first book in this trilogy was an engaging and thoughtful thriller, a what-if change in history. The 2nd and 3rd parts after Christ clone veer more towards preaching without the hook of a good novel. Too bad.

Wonderful details, weakens 2/3 way through.......2006-06-15

One of the most powerful parts of the Christ Clone Trilogy was following Decker Hawthorne. Unfortunately he is killed by the Christ Clone about 2/3 of the way through the book only to be brought back in the last chapter. Another powerful attraction of this story is the subtly of the Christ Clone himself; a subtly that is shatter right before he kills Hawthorne, again, weakening the overall impact of the novels in my opinion. Regardless the details of the plagues and struggle at the end of days are well-written and intense. As with most of these ventures into the End Times there seems to be a warning about combining religion and politics yet I wonder if those who write these can see the danger that some Christians today who wish to combine the two are risking? Are those who want to install their religions into politics playing into Satan's hands?

Some good things but it still doesn't compare to watching the movie!.......2007-05-20

The novel opens with a prelude that features a nightmare of Anakin's on the way to mediate a border dispute with Obi-wan on Ansion. In Chapters 1, 2 and 3, we are introduced to the Lars homestead, so we get to see the interactions of Cliegg, Shmi, Owen, Beru and Threepio. We learn that Cliegg met and freed Shmi five years ago. Now Shmi silently honors Anakin's 20th birthday and it is cool to get inside her head. She misses Anakin and wonders about him, yet she feels comfort in knowing that he is much better adventuring around the galaxy than stuck on a desolate world where he wouldn't be content. Since Shmi's appearance in the movie is so brief, it's great to be able to see her as a fuller character of the story, as well as the whole extended Lars family. (This is exactly the type of thing a movie novelization is supposed to do.) We see mounting tension between the Tusken Raiders and the farming community leading up to the abduction of Shmi, and we see the rescue attempt in which most died and Cliegg lost his leg. He ironically refuses an artificial limb, thus the hover chair.

We also see an earlier introduction of Padme into the story, along with her sister Sola, her nieces and R2-D2. Sola scolds Padme for her selfless career of serving the Republic, and we begin to feel a hint of Padme's deeply hidden desire for love and children of her own. And in a nice stroke of continuity, Captain Panaka, still with Naboo security, introduces his nephew Captain Typho, who lost his eye as a teenager in the Battle of Naboo and will now serve as the Senator's security chief.

Chapter 4 features the opening of the movie. In addition to the above events that set-up the movie's story, the rest of the novel has several other elements not seen movie, some of which include and expand upon the deleted scenes. One other interesting thing I think worth mentioning here is when Anakin and Yoda hear Qui-Gon's voice, Yoda is truly puzzled at what seems like the departed Jedi Master's existence beyond death. Did Qui-Gon once discover a Jedi ability that his spirit will later teach or empower Obi-Wan, Yoda and Anakin to possess? Hmm. I felt this was better than the four previous movie novelizations. Read this book if you really loved Episode II and feel a strong desire to know a little more about the story.

After this book, I recommend the following 5-star novel for more of the mystery that began in Episode II:

Better than the movie? Yes! Then again most books are! But if your a big Star wars fan and espically an Anakin fan then this is a must read. This book will take you deeper into the story of the man/machine Anakin providing you a glimpse into the shadows of his soul. Be prepared to feel intense sorrow and sense of victory throughout this novel. So scary what someone can become...well told Salvatore.

Ten years after we left Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi, we meet up with them again. Anakin is fast proving his abilities as a Jedi Apprentice, surpassing Obi Wan even. Now they have a new mission. Senator Padmé Amidala is in danger with attacks on her life. She is crucial to a coming vote to form an Army of the Republic and someone will do anything to prevent her decision.

Anakin discovers upon once again meeting up with Padmé that his feelings for her have not faded, but only grown more intense over the years, putting him in a relationship forbidden to Jedi. The more time they spend together, the more dangerous to the Force his position becomes, causing him to cross the line into the unacceptable range.

Meanwhile, Obi Wan is sent on a mission to a distant planet to investigate rumors of a huge army being formed at the request of the Jedi. As he looks deeper in to the matter, he finds many mysteries that defy explanation. Who commissioned a clone army and why? Who is so desperate to stop Padmé's vote at any cost? What will become of the forbidden love between Anakin and Padmé?

Having watched the movie immediately upon its release, I just this year finally found the time to sit down and read the novelization of the story. Having done so, I found the novel to be quite enjoyable, going in to even greater depth on various plot threads in the movie. Of course nothing can compare to the visualization of the creative genius of George Lucas, but the book adds to the sometimes sketchy elements of the movie's storyline.

In the book, we get a deeper understanding of what exactly drives Padmé. We get to meet her family, characters never even mentioned in the movie. Seeing this side of her personality, she comes even more alive with warmth and compassion. We also get to spend far more time with Shmi Skywalker, Anakin's mother, and what has happened to her in the years since Anakin left her to train as a Jedi. We see her happy and comfortable in her life, to which only glimpses are granted in the movie itself. We also experience her terror and agony at the hands of the Tusken raiders who stole her away, eventually causing her death. This is of grave importance as Anakin's reaction to her kidnapping is the first huge step pushing him on his way to the Dark Side of the Force.

Much of George Lucas' brilliance is lost in a novelization however, since he is known for the stunning visual effects in his movies. For example, Obi Wan's journey to the distant planet where the army is being grown and the events that follow pale significantly in the novel without the scenery. This is to be expected however when movies are put into words in a book. We are however, privy to the wonderful sound effects throughout the story. We get to experience the light saber battles through sound and R2D2 and C3PO would not be given justice without hearing them. Jonathan Davis is an absolutely brilliant performer, perfect for the Attack of the Clones. He does such an incredible job of bringing the characters to life through his voice. The Star Wars saga has a huge cast of characters to keep straight. I don't know how he did it, but Davis's abilities to transform himself through the mouths of all the players. Every single one of them is very distinct. That in itself is a testament to Davis' ability.

Though Attack of the Clones in novel form will not give a full vision into the Star Wars story, between the novel and the movie itself, fans will get a better concept of George Lucas' dreams than should they limit themselves to one or the other, book or movie.

This book has a fantastic beging where the senator cordea ship is being blown away.
the jedi are very concerned about padme's saftey because someone was trying to kill her.
So Master Yoda gives the handsom jedi Anikan skywalker the job of proteting Padme.
Sooner or later he falls in love with Padme and she fell in love with Anikan.
But they are called to war. Read the rest of the book to find out what happens!

Solid movie novelization.......2006-08-24

I've been a fan of R.A. Salvatore ever since the late 80s publication of his Forgotten Realms novel The Crystal Shard. I've faithfully kept up with the adventures of Drizzt Do'Urden and company. I read Salvatore's first Star Wars novel, Vector Prime, eagerly and was very curious to see what he would bring to the table for the novelization of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

Overall, I was pleased and felt this book gelled better than the novelization of The Phantom Menace. I'm not sure how enamored I am with Salvatore's writing style per se as I am with his imagination and strong characterization and story-telling skills. He excels at writing fight sequences but is restrained in that regard in this particular book.

Like I mentioned in my review for The Phantom Menace, I like for a movie novelization to add something significant to the film, since the story itself is already largely taken care of before the author ever puts pen to paper. Like the Episode I book, the opening chapters of this one are completely incremental to the movie. The first is a really nice touch when you're reading the books in order, as it serves as a flashback occurring immediately before the opening of The Approaching Storm. Added detail on the Lars family on Tatooine is welcome, as are the chapters dealing with Padme and her growing need for something more than political service to fill her days.

Salvatore skillfully adds some touches that serve to deepen the characters shown in the film. Padme's interest in Anakin is fleshed out, as is her inner conflict as her attraction to the gallant but troubled young Jedi wars with her conscience. I was very impressed with how the book concisely explains exactly why Palpatine steers Jar Jar Binks in particular to make the motion giving the Chancellor emergency powers. Also intriguing is the additional material exploring Jango and Boba Fett's life on Kamino. Essentially, by the conclusion of the novel Salvatore manages to add some additional depth to each of the main characters. Anakin's angst makes more sense, Padme's conflicts are clarified, Obi-Wan's life dealing with a troublesome apprentice is illuminated, and several other less important characters also benefit.

One place I would have liked to see more detail is the conclusion. Perhaps Salvatore felt the action-packed climax would be better served on the screen than on paper. The arena feels a bit rushed, and then we almost breathlessly zip through the lightsaber duel and are at the conclusion in just a couple more pages. Granted, the duel in Attack of the Clones is less meaty than most of the others in the films, but still I would have liked to take a little more time in the closing battles. Somewhere before the concluding sequences the book almost seemed to run out of the time to do its own thing and started hewing to the film script very closely indeed.

I'm a big fan of Attack of the Clones, including the love story debated so frequently by fans, and this book serves the story well. While nothing in the book transcended the film, there were many thoughtful touches that will clearly enhance my next viewing.

After reading the first two books I was very happy with my purchase. The story was great, the imagery was good, and it was deffinately controversial. I'd say worth reading except I don't want to promote the third.

Voltaire said that if God didn't exist, it would be necessary for Man to invent Him.

In "In His Image", Man does exactly that.

James Beauseigneur may very well have put literary form to the old bumper sticker "Christ is Coming: Look Busy!", with "In His Image", the first little broadside in a wickedly absorbing trilogy that dares ask the question: "hey, izzat JESUS you got in this here petri dish, Doctor?"

Bottom line: bewhiskered professor of Genetics Harry Goodman goes on a little combo Holy Land walkabout & research project to do a full genetic & biological scrape of the Shroud of Turin, supposedly the cerement of Jesus Christ, which bears the image of Christ left from the energy unleashed in His supposed Resurrection.

The Shroud doesn't mind. The genetic Scrape & Peel, I mean. About the Resurrection, I have no idea.

Anyway, let's just say while they're scraping the Shroud, a little something extra comes off. And let's just say that the Good Professor saves that little something extra, because in this life, if it's not about getting the Little Something Extra, it's about nothing at all.

Faster than you can say "beam me up Scotty!" you've got a precocious kid running around, a smart little tyke with a keen interest in the UN and an astonishing ability to levitate and walk on water.

I'm kidding about those last two things, but I couldn't help myself.

Look: I think it's awesome that something called "Christ the Clone" exists. I *dig* the idea. And whereas the "Left Behind" series from LaHaye & Jenkins concerns itself with the tactical of the New Messiah and his foes, BeauSeigneur is focused more on the strategic: the book reads more like the highpoints of an Apocalyptic powerpoint presentation than the down & dirty everyday drama of a Left Behind.

If that sounds bad---well, depends on what you're after. I found "In His Image" completely absorbing and compulsively readable: indeed, I polished it off in about three hours and I'm getting ready to dig into #2.

But be warned: BeauSeigneur might as well be writing what amounts to a Pentagon briefing: his style is pulpy but bland, and the characterization---particularly, oddly, of the 'Christ' child---is brief and shallow. Actual physical descriptions, of locations, events, and characters, are either non-existent, or told secondhand---from a news report, for example, as happens when Moscow learns an entirely new meaning of "Scorched Earth". BeauSeigneur is a much better plotter than he is a writer.

Those glaring weaknesses would normally doom a book for me, but "In His Image" is furiously engaging, bristingly with a lot of very juicy, intriguing ideas, ample Machiavellian gamesmanship at the UN, and an interesting subplot developing about the Messianic Jews.

There's even a dastardly, scheming French villain; speaking of which, there's a moment where BeauSeigneur takes his characterization gloves off & bobs and weaves with the story---you'll know it when you read it. It's a wicked moment, but all too brief: here's hoping the author loosens up going forward.

Whether you're pulpy tales of Apocalyptic doom (who isn't?), or always wondered what a test-tube Jesus would look like, "In His Image" is juicy stuff.

Not impressed but interested........2007-07-02

After reading this book I felt like I only had part of a whole. This must be a trilogy (The Christ Clone Trilogy) that you have to read together. `In His Image' by itself is interesting but not very impressive. The time lags and story switching are not smooth, but I again must stress that the concept is thought provoking. Many readers seem to draw comparisons between this series and the `Left Behind' series. I have not read the `Left Behind' books but none of its advertisements, movies, or word of mouth ever interested me. This series, on the other hand, still has my attention and respect.

This book is totally wack. The research was impressive, but that's about it. The only reason I even finished was because I bought the book and felt obligated to finish it- I'm not even interested in finishing the trilogy. Decades are skipped and connection to the characters is non-existant. On the back of the book one reviewer wrote, "C.S. Lewis couldn't have done it better." C.S. Lewis wouldn't do it in the first place.

So Jesus is cloned again.......2007-03-24

The idea of having Jesus cloned is a compelling theme for any story. I have read some of them, and they are quite original. One book had Jesus cloned as a female!

BeauSeigneur's story lacks interest. The characters are just a little too shallow, the beginning is full of "convenient coincidences," and I thought these coincidences were just used to get the story started. But just when the story gains momentum, there is a gap. Then another, and in every other chapter, there are gaps everywhere. There's nothing better than a story with a sound continuity and a structured development.

Then the story takes place in the UN, and it just becomes monotonous. It was around here when I gave up.
The dialogs are too contrived, forced, and contributes very little to the story.

But not all of it is bad. Loved Rosen and his theory of the Covenant and loved also the footnotes.
BeauSeigneur researched this topic very well, but he just can't write a novel.

I recommend "Divine Blood" by Martinez Helwett or "The Miracle Strain" by Michael Cordy

Imagine traveling at light speed and traveling to any planet you want. Or having a beam sword/light saber that's indestructible, not even the best of the best could beat it. In "Star Wars Episode 2 Attack Of The Clones" by Patricia C. Wrede all of this is reality but in your mind of course. It's a book of action, adventure, excitement, and fun. Imagine you had the power of the whole galaxy.

On a planet called Naboo there was a young kid called Anakin Skywalker, chosen by a Jedi knight obi wan from the republic academy. Anakin was born to be a Jedi. He was the chosen one. So Obi Wan trained him for years. Soon he was set on a mission to protect the queen Padme. But really he was on a different mission to find his lost mother. Also to become a Jedi knight. But if he failed his quest to protect Padme he would never become a Jedi knight. He felt miserable because Obi Wan would not let him pass and also fight a real battle as a real Jedi. But he was just as miserable because he thought his mother was died. So he traveled to Naboo to hunt down the kidnapers of his mother. Accomplishing his goal he did. He destroyed all men and women of their kind. But to late he was, his mother was dead, hanging from a rope in one of their huts. After returning to his mission he felt that he failed his mother. But Padme was happy for him because he found his mother died or alive, as long as he finished his quest. Just then Padme reached to kiss him and that ended in an affair. When he returned to the republic and heard that he accomplished his mission they decided to night Anakin a full Jedi knight. His life was complete. Besides for his mother but when he married Padme his life was like he had a whole new family.

In this book there's a lot cool action. One of my favorites are when Obi Wan went to find the mastermind killer, the bounty hunter. When the bounty hunter tried to run from Obi Wan, but Obi Wan took this little tracker that Obi Wan put on his ship. So then obi wan took his ship and they started a high-speed plane chase. Back and forth through asteroids and shooting missiles at each other. Obi Wan knew he had to fire back but his real mission was to find out where he was going. So he did dodging missiles and asteroids but he made it. The bounty hunter was going to count Dooku the evil mastermind.
The theme of this book is that a young child that was chosen to be a Jedi knight. Trained by Obi Wan he was told to be the best of the best. But Anakin knew there was more in life then being a Jedi. He had to find his real family. So this book is really about a kid going to for fill his destiny.

If you read this book your imagination will grow farther then the galaxy. That's why you got to read this amazing book; also if you want fun, adventure, and excitement well this book has it all and even more. So in my opinion I rate this book 4/5 stars and I think it would be great for ages 9 to 13.

Jedi Adventures.......2004-03-04

In the book Star Wars Episode 2 Attack of the Clones you will find Jedi fighting the dark side. My favorite parts are when Jango Fett and Obi-Wan fought on Komino. Also, the execution and the war on Genosis. Finally, I like the light saber fight at the end. I recommend this fictional book because this book is adventuresome, unpredictable, and shows exitement through out the novel. If you want to find out more read this book.

The galaxy fighters.......2002-12-19

Starwars Episode 2 was an action/lovestory. The setting of the story was were the Jedis tried searching for the bad guys all over the galaxy. The main characters in the book were Obi won Kenobi ,the Queen and all the Jedi masters. My favorite character is Yoda because he was a very good Jedi master.My favorite part of the book was when all the Jedis fight against the clones.I would recommend this book to children betwen the ages of 7-13 because it is very cool and action packed.

For someone as computer-illiterate as I am this is a pretty decent book to read and have on my shelf. Although I only rarely move into such realms, it's good to know where i can turn for reference and instructions.

Near-Perfect Guide for Beginners.......2007-08-21

Photoshop CS3 Workflow: The Digital Photographer's Guide is the best Photoshop primer I've read yet. The author works through image adjustments in a very logical progression. He begins with very simple edits and works his way up to more complex fine-tuning. The instructions are both step-by-step and very clear. He also does an excellent job of explaining the "big picture" of why you want to make these adjustments and does not just turn you into a mouse clicker following steps by rote.

While no one book is going to tell you everything you could ever want to know about Photoshop, this is a fairly comprehensive tome. The entire workflow process is covered beginning with downloading files and sorting them in Bridge, all the way through printing. I would suggest using the "Look Inside" function to check the Table of Contents if you're interested in a complete list of the specific steps covered. The good news is that all the most common bases are covered, and covered well. If I could add one thing to this book, it would be a chapter or two on the basics of making adjustments in the LAB color space. For certain images, LAB will yield truly superior results, yet it receives no coverage in most Photoshop books. If you're interested in learning more, I highly recommend Photoshop LAB Color: The Canyon Conundrum and Other Adventures in the Most Powerful Colorspace.

For those who own the CS2 edition of this book, you should be aware that this is largely unchanged. Most of the text is unchanged, the example photo are carried forward, etc. There is just enough new material to cover the new features in CS3. It's debatable whether the purchase is worth the money for roughly 30 pages of new material.

If this book has a weakness, it is that it doesn't really live up to its title. The book is not about workflow per se, but about all the steps that are part of a workflow. Only the first and the last chapters really focus on the aspect of trying to plan the workflow itself. This is no crime, I don't know if it's even possible to fill an entire book with workflow planning discussions without becoming ridiculously redundant and useless. But Tim Grey and his publishers chose to identify this as a workflow text and on that basis I think they have failed. If they had named the book "Photoshop CS3 for Beginners: The Digital Photographer's Guide" I would give it 5 stars and my highest recommendation. As it is, I'll still give it my highest recommendation for Photoshop novices as long as they realize that this book is really to help them with image editing skills much more than planning the workflow process itself.

I have read Virtual War and The Clones and until I read these books I never really was interested in science fiction, but now I have started reading more of it. I loved both of the books I couldn't put them down, my whole school loved the books. Now I'm waiting with increasing excitement to read The Revolt, I am going to read it the first day it comes out . These books are great even if your not sure about science fiction you should try them

I thought that I had every good book our high school library had to offer, but as I was scanning the shelves those bright, bold letters poppped out at me, THE CLONES , it immidiatly piqued my interest and when I started to read it I couldn't
put it down. The mystery, the action, the romance. This is a very good book and I highly recommend it for anyone who even slightly likes science fiction. my only complaint is that the ending is a cliffhanger. Monday morning I am going back to my library to find the third book!

Second in a planned series, the author takes us to the Island of Hiva, where battle hero Corgan now lives. His friend and former companion Sharla comes to the island with a surprise-the cloned baby of their friend Brig, who died soon after the war. As a result of Sharla's genetic research, cloned twin infants are growing at a whirlwind rate, maturing years in a matter of weeks. Despite their identical features, Corgan soon realizes their dispositions are quite different. When Seabrig, the twin he is raising, loses a hand in a swimming accident, Corgan can't overcome the terrible feeling that Sharla's twin, Brigand, did it on purpose. Whatever the outcome Brigand desired, it seems to have backfired when he is left on the island with Corgan, whom he sees as a rival for Sharla's affection.

I met Corgan, Sharla and Brig in the Virtual War. As a grandparent and teacher I always look for good science fiction. The Clones can be read as a stand alone since Gloria Skurzynski fills in the backstory. Good fast moving tale that took me back to the doomed city. Gave my copy to my grandson.
