Bubba's The Best!.......2007-06-13

I've been to Uncle Bubba's Restaurant in Savannah several times...I dare say our family likes to food better there then The Lady and Son's! I see a Food Network show in his future. If they were smart they would make a show with Bubba and Paula's husband Michael, because those two together are a hoot! The cookbook is great with lots of wonderful seafood recipe and side dishes...try the cornbread muffins they are out of this world.

What a delightful book for kids and adults! I bought three copies and plan to order more for gifts. The story is really funny, and the illustrations are beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone who loves take-offs on classic fairy tales.

There once was a Rancher named Bubba who lived with his stepbrothers and stepdaddy, they made him do all the work, that's why he loved ranching. There was a girl named Miz Lurleen, she was the purtiest gal in the county, she sent out invitations for a ball. Soon the day of the ball came, Bubba was as busy as ever. Even though Bubba did all the work he still didn't get to go to the ball. After they left, Bubba heard a voice, it said, "Go to the ball, Bubba." It was his Fairy Godcow, she gave him nice clothes and a Stallion, infact, when he got to the ball he changed back to normal and turned in to a boy in rags and ran off and on his way back his boot fell off so Miz Lurleen went to see who's it was, it was Bubba's, then they got married.
The theme is good versus evil because Bubba is good and his stepbrothers are bad and good is trying to win. The message is don't judge a book by it's cover. The genre is Fairy Tale because clothes can't on someone out of nowhere and a cow can't turn in to a horse. I recommend this book to people who don't think they're beautiful but they are and if you think you're not beautiful you're going to start to act not beautiful because you don't care.
I think Helen Ketteman is very creative for making it a Prince not a Princess and how Bubba turned back in to normal during the ball and how the Fairy God mother was a cow instead, she surprised me. I liked how the Fairy Godcow appeared in a tornado instead of out of no where. I liked how Bubba made most of the action start. I liked how the language was in English because if it wasn't I couldn't of read any of it. I loved the illustrations because it made it look real.

This is an excellently written book that was a delightful twist on the Cinderella story. My students had so much fun with Miz Lurleen and Bubba. This book is a keeper!

My entire family love to read this book. My mother bought it for my son at age 4. When my husband and I read it to our son and daughter the can't help but to laugh and enjoy the story. You can't help but to read the book with a southern/western draw because it makes the story more interesting. I would strongly recommend this for any family to add to their home library.

You can bake it: Millionaire Stuffed Shrimp, Alabama-Style Shrimp Bake, Bubba's Beer-Broiled Shrimp, Shrimp Pizza Wedges, etc.
You can barbecue it: Lime-Barbecued Shrimp, Grilled Orange Shrimp Salad, and a couple of others.

I bought this book for my Dad after we had a terrific experience at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant in Charleston, SC. My Dad is very ill and on oxygen, but the trip to the restaurant really perked him up. He loved the dish he had there, and the chef was kind enough to come out of the kitchen and tell Dad how to cook it! Although the book doesn't have that specific recipe, it has dozens of others just as good.

We found this book at our local library and our teenage son immediately "locked on" to it. He loves Bubba Gump as well as the recipes in this book. He has taken such an interest in it that he has learned to cook from it. His favorite recipi is "Bubba's Beer-Batter Shrimp." He prepares it in a fondue pot and our entire family reaps the benifits. My husband and I prefer the "Shrimp and Feta Vermicelli." It adds a little adventure to cooking with shrimp. The variety of recipes in the book make it a "sure thing" for shrimp lovers.

I bought this book for my 3-1/2 year old daughter. She absolutely adores this book. I have read it over and over and she just can't get enough! Some books you dread reading over and over, but this one I don't -- I actually enjoy reading it! I like it because it addresses many different issues, from every day fears to dealing with change, to friendship -- all issues that we deal with on a daily basis. I would highly recommend this book, it was awesome!

Bubba, the caterpillar, fears change. Trixie, a ladybug who can't fly befriends Bubba and helps him become less fearful. Bubba takes Trixie flying after his transformation into a butterfly. The story encapsulates how friends help each other, and learn to feel good about themselves in the process.

Although my 3 year old loves the pictures and the characters in Bubba and Trixie, I know someday she will understand the meaning behind this wonderful story. I loved the story for it's message of being happy with yourself no matter what you look like or your abilities. An excellent story for those dealing with issues about self esteem.

My two toddler sons and I love these delightful little books full of warm family moments and quirky humor that both children and adults can appreciate. I particularly love the easy style of the illustrations that capture so completely the essence of baby/puppyhood! We hope this writer and illustrator team will create more "Bubba and Beau" books.

My 3 year old absolutely loves this book. She's crazy about both babies and dogs, and Bubba and Beau Meet the Relatives even introduces an adorable baby GIRL to the readers. Not quite as good as Bubba and Beau, Best Friends, but still a cute book.

We started by checking out the Bubba and Beau books from the library, but quickly found we read them every day and the books were due back. So, we bought the books, and (as Appelt would put it) honey, it was better than pickled eggs! Meet the Relatives has to be my personal favorite of the 3. Can't help but read it with a slight twang. We enjoy it so much, we're sending the books to cousins to enjoy...

It is difficult to give a real rating for this book as I am still waiting for my first edition signed hardback. However, I have had the privledge of eating ice cream with Elbert and reading some of his rough drafts I know the book will give me lots of entertainment. In the meantime I'm watching the most fascinating birds in the lagoon here on Ambergris Caye and shopping for a good bird identification book. I can tell you the one titled Birds of Guatumaula & Belize is absolutely useless. Miss Harriette

Bubba and I set out to write this book about birds almost 10 years ago. I was a school teacher in the United States at a local collage in Memphis, married and living in midtown near the campus. My wife and I didn't have children, and I thought a dog would be good for our waning relationship. Of course it wasn't, and I wound up with the dog. He did turn out to be a rather smart dog, and, of course, we are the best of friends. He seems to think I had a midlife crises. I tell myself I just got bored, and either way I ended up here, no wife and talking to a confused birddog that thinks ornithology is his calling.

I've made this book as a collection the stories we published in the local newspaper. The stories, 120 total, are printed here as they were published in our "Bird Of The Week" column for the SAN PEDRO SUN.

Belize is not a large country, about the size of Maine, but it has the most varied habitats within its borders you will ever find. These rich habitats support a variety of exotic avifauna that has not yet been accurately numbered. Those who try and count them such as The Belize Audubon Society, come up with figures like 530 species.

If you need a laugh you will enjoy the tales of life taken from the Author's family. It is hard to find really good, clean, and funny stories about family life and these two are the best in the entertainment industry today. The people is Alabama and surrounding state who can get their radio program are very fortunate.

Bubba is a baby and Beau is a dog. Like the title of the book says they are best friends! They have so much in common. They both are very loud, they don't like baths, they chew on everything and they both crawl on all fours! Join them for all of their adventures!

The illustrations were cute and the cover caught the eye of our 3 and 1 year olds.

It's a quick read. Perfect for the lap sit age!

This book will pull at your heartstrings while give you a sore stomach from all the laughter! My 12 month old loved this book when I returned from the library with it. When I purchased it for him it became his ONLY book to read. It is so delightful that you will not mind reading it over and over again. You might even develop a slight southern twinge to you accent after a few reads!

This is one of the funniest books. While reading it, one of my co-workers laughed so hard her mascara ran down her face. I've used it in pre-school storytime all week and its been very popular with the 3 to 5 year old crowd. The illustrations are priceless and the charaters a riot.

It is filled with light hearted southern humor and fun. A book that you can pick up if you only have a few minutes, some of the story lines are a quick read. They have taken truths in life and filled them with humor. Men laughing at them selves and honoring their wives. There is a CD that comes in the book, they are sound bits from their radio show. You can listen more then once and laugh each time you hear it.

Rick and Bubba are a couple of guys after my own heart. I laughed so hard it hurt. But these guys have a serious side too. They are not shy about their faith or their love for their wives and family. They are what every man should be, involved Dads and loving husbands.
