Any child who wants to know why he can't walk through a wall will enjoy Kathleen Zoehfeld's simple text and Paul Meisel's playful illustrations.

Cute, funny and scientifically sound........2007-10-02
Young children will be entertained and educated by What's the World Made of?, finding out about the three states of matter. With lots of funny, silly illustrations and some scientific observations of everyday stuff, this slim volume will stimulate readers to learn more about the suject and become increasingly aware of the world around them.
Excellent.
Great book!.......2007-02-17
Ordered this for my son's 6th birthday and he really enjoyed it! It's great at explaining it at a "kid level" and he giggled througout the book!
Science Made Fun & Easy.......2006-07-04
I have a 6-yr old boy and a 7-yr old girl. It's very rare to find anything that they agree on but with What Is the World Made Of? I was able to find a book that both of them would enjoy and learn from at the same time. The easy-to-follow language made it easy for them both to follow along. The fun pictures and odd bits of humor kept them interested and wanting to know more. A fantastic find & one I hope to be able to use for quite some time.
Great for Teachers!!!.......2005-10-24
This book is an excellent way to introduce solids, liquids, and gases. I used it with a 3rd grade class and it was perfect!
wonderful science/literature connection.......1999-07-12
this is an excellent literature connection for young children studying the concept of matter. it works well with the foss science module, "solids and liquids" for students in grades one and two.

Not For Gunsmoke Fans.......2004-03-03
I purchased the book in hopes of getting some information on his time spent with the Gunsmoke cast and crew in addition to other western roles he's played. It soon turned into he an his wife's personal feelings and efforts about the economy and ecology and strayed too far from his western actor background in my opinion. The writing style left something to be desired as well. There were many places where the author added pices of her direct conversations with Dennis - I said "you really did that?" Dennis "Oh yes I really did." Author "I don't believe it. Tell me more." - Not something I enjoyed. I imagine it's a great book if you don't go into it thinking that you're going to read a biography about a western actor.
A treat to read!.......2003-11-13
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It takes the reader back through many years and presents a clear picture of life in each era, through the eyes and personal experiences of this wonderful actor and kind-hearted soul. Whether you're reading about young Dennis picking strawberries in Oregon fields with his family -- to make it through tough financial times -- or his often amusing experiences in Hollywood, this book will entertain and uplift you. Written in a warm, conversational, highly accessible tone. Reading "All The World's A Stage" gives you the feeling of relaxing in a porch rocking chair with a good cup of coffee, listening to timeless stories told by an old friend. Full of anecdotes and Hollywood history, woven together with wisdom and spirituality.

Wonderful.......2002-03-04
This is a wonderful book with great depth and pathos and humor about the dust bowl in
the depression. It is not just another Hollywood book, but there are many humorous
stories about his career. I especially loved to read about what work he is doing for our
planet and to cap it off his spirituality certainly comes forth. My friends and I agree that once
we began to read we couldn't put it down.
A Renaissance Man.......2001-12-13
.
I admire Dennis Weaver. He has a long consistent acting career in diverse roles, a marriage now celebrating its second half century and deep convictions on what is meaningful in life. His life story is full. Besides his lead in the television series McCloud and the role of Chester on television's longest running prime time series, Gunsmoke, Dennis Weaver won an Emmy for his portrayal of Chester on Gunsmoke; is an inductee of the Cowboy Hall of Fame; co-founded LIFE (Love is Feeding Everyone); serves as host of cable TV's Western Channel; and served for fourteen years as the spokesman for Great Western Bank replacing John Wayne after Wayne's death. Dennis Weaver starred in Steven Spielberg's first movie, "Duel"; teamed with Orson Welles in the movie "A Touch of Evil"; acted with James Cagney in "The Gallant Hours"; co-hosted Farm Aid IV with Willie Nelson. He is a singer/songwriter and has recorded his works with the likes of John Denver. Like Ronald Reagan, Dennis Weaver served as President of the Screen Actor's Guild. Weaver was a naval aviator in the Naval Air Corps in WWII; was offered a football scholarship at the University of Oklahoma; and finished #6 in the decathlon tryouts for the United States Olympic team. He built a house out of old tires, dirt filled pop cans and adobe and dubbed it "Earthship". Behind the scenes, he introduced the parents of Ron and Clint Howard. Ron Howard, of course, played Opie on the Andy Griffith Show and later made great films like "Apollo 13". Clint Howard costarred with Weaver in the television series "Gentle Ben." Dennis Weaver introduced Linda Evans ("Dallas") to her first TV acting job on McCloud; coached his son's little league team; was financially helped by Shelley Winters in lean times; and, before fame, made money delivering flowers to people like Lucille Ball, Jack Webb and John Ford. Director extraordinaire John Ford's son-in-law, Ken Curtis, later replaced Dennis Weaver's character of Chester on Gunsmoke as the hay seed Festus.
The first eight chapters of "All the World's a Stage" are Weaver's autobiography. The account of his life in the Great Depression reads wonderfully like John Grisham's "The Painted House". The times were tough, but there was love, family, adventure and good friends. Some of Weaver's pros are poetic: "A shared crisis is fertile soil in which kindness can grow"; "The purpose of life is to Love and be Loved". Some read like proverbs: "to achieve a goal, three things are necessary, focus, focus and focus"; "Everyone should be passionate about something"; "that which you would have for yourself, give to others"; "Be happy with yourself;" and one his favorite sayings, "The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer."
Dennis Weaver soared to popularity as stiff legged Chester Goode in television's Gunsmoke. Chester was Matt Dillon's hired help - not a deputy as reported in most commentaries on the series. The cast and theme of the early Gunsmokes were magic. Doc, Kitty, Matt, Chester and the magic writing of John Meston zoomed the early black-and-white half hour Gunsmokes into the number one spot for four straight years. Purists (like me) say these are among the best westerns ever aired. Dennis Weaver soon tired of the role of Chester. He felt the possibilities of Chester's character were exhausted and left Gunsmoke after the first nine seasons. He wanted to be a leading man. He achieved this in numerous roles including the television series, McCloud.
The last ten chapters of "All the World's a Stage" proselytize Dennis Weaver's pantheistic worldview. He is a vegetarian concerned about the planet earth. His call to activism came during meditation. "One evening, while I was practicing the stillness, the Divine Presence of God came in a very sweet and loving way; and I was moved to mentally speak to that Holy Consciousness, which I often refer to as the `Divine Mother'." He envisions his god as a female. In the book's preface, he writes, "I sincerely and humbly thank God for we are all together in Her". He is the member of Self-Realization Fellowship described as "half-Yoga [Hindu] and half-Christian". (There are Christians - like me - who believe being half-Christian, like being half-pregnant, is not possible.) Weaver is not passive about his faith. He has placed his passions into action. Besides LIFE, he champions the discipline of "Ecolonomics", a term he created to describe joint concern of ecology and economics.
Compared to the autobiographies of James Arness and Burt Reynolds, both Gunsmoke regulars, Weaver's autobiography overflows with passion, concern for truth, introspection, and search for spiritual identity. Little emphasis or concern is placed on the importance or the fame of self. The title of Weaver's autobiography, unlike those of James Arness and Burt Reynolds, does not include his name. "All the World's a Stage" emphasizes both who he is - an actor - and where his passion lies - in the spirituality of planet Earth. Dennis Weaver holds these precepts higher than self. Some may not agree on the conclusions of his quest for truth, but all must admire the sincerity and outstanding character that constitutes a remarkable man.

I have to tell you, things are good. I am . . . I am . . . Whooo! . . . I am very good. I just returned from a walk and . . . ha! Things. Are. Good. I've got a bowl of hard kibble with some soft stuff mixed in. My name's on the bowl! I am passionate about this lamb-and-rice recipe. What's been going on? haha! I'm so in love with this b****! hahaha! I can't . . . I'm so . . . I can't restrain myself. hahahahahaha! We met at the park. She was in the run for little dogs . . . 'cause she's, well . . . ha! She's petite. And I was over in the big run and . . . I am in love. I can't be cool. This b**** is . . . I have total respect for her. Yesterday on my five o'clock, I just sniffed her a** for a while and then we frolicked. I can't even describe it . . . we chased squirrels . . . frisked, you know . . . she likes to be physical, too . . . and to fetch and . . . We're like anyone. We tore into this shoe and just had a ball. I'll see her tomorrow on my 8 a.m. I am happy. I am . . . hahahahahaha! She is a wonderful, wonderful animal. I can't . . . words don't . . . owooooo! I can't sit or stay, man. I need to get up on my hind legs and holler, you know! I gotta pee on something. And I don't care what the other animals do or what their masters say. Listen, there are always gonna be pit bulls. There are always gonna be Dobermans. And cynical little pugs. And you know what? I've never cared what others think about me. I've always been this way. I'm living my life. And I am fortunate. And I am excited. I am fortunate and excited.
Do you know the history of crate training? 'Cause I do. Don't talk about things you don't understand. Like saying dogs are wild. Dogs are wild-that is glib. Dogs are . . . I've done the research; there are crates that they put us in to quote unquote train us. They throw rattlesnakes at us. Electric-shock tags! I'm not making this up. This is . . . it's history. Crate training just masks the problem. These dogs, they become zombies. You can totally handle disobedience naturally by saying "No!" and "Bad dog!" It works. Look at the facts. Shock tags?! I am disgusted.
hahaha! I fetch! Boy, I love to fetch. I am totally fired up when I fetch. And nap. I've got a great dog bed with leopard spots where I can power-nap, man. I've got awesome chew toys, too. I'm passionate about this rubber T-bone with peanut butter hidden in it. Here's the point: do you know there are strays on the street eating out of the Dumpsters behind Chinese restaurants? I'm not making that up. I care about those mutts. But they don't know what the options are. They don't know that you can live in an apartment and get fed by a human. These hounds, man-when it thunders, they think the world is ending. Because they haven't done the research. Do you know the statistics? A hundred and fifty dogs are being fixed every ten minutes. A hundred and fifty. Every ten minutes. I can't . . . that's just wrong. And I speak out about it.
There's this yellow Lab, Clover, who I see in the dog run. And this is a totally great purebred. He's a . . . ha! He's . . . he's a great guy. I've got enormous respect for him. But he's overweight. You know why? 'Cause they're feeding him scraps from the table. And he can't fetch or chase without getting winded. That is sad. I care about him, and I care about the apricot poodle with the plaid socks on his feet, and I care about the basenji with the drooling issues. I want to hear good news. I like to see a Rottweiler get a bath or a shepherd savor a Milk-Bone. That makes me happy.
What these beggars don't understand is that if you hover around the dinner table long enough and you're observant food will come. Food's gonna come naturally, man. They're gonna drop stuff and you can-hahahahaha! But, seriously, begging is a huge issue among our species. I did the research. And I speak out. I speak out about misinformation. Do you know people think that one dog year is seven human years? That is false. Total fabrication. It's approximate. Flea and tick collars? There are vitamins for that. And your master can totally put that capsule in a slab of butter and you'll never know you ate it.
owooowowowooo!!! This b****, she's kind, she's caring, she's a wonderful, wonderful dog. It's like . . . wow. And I don't want to compare, but I've never felt this way before. We might have a litter. One thing at a time. It's joy, man. That's what it is. Look at my tail! I'm panting 24/7. hahahaha! I purr, even. Like a cat, man. The cat looks at me and he's, like, "What did they put in your kibble?" haha! I don't care. I've never cared what that cat thinks. But I care about him even though he's a cynic. I care about the glib parakeet and those jerks the gerbils, but I'm not sure those are the same gerbils as before. hahaha! Those gerbils! We have fun. I bark, they run on the wheel. What's that? The leash jingling! Is it eight already? Walk?! owooohahahahahaharuffruffruffha!!! I love living my life!

Book Description
The Taxation of International Entertainers and Athletes -- All the World's a Stage provides a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the taxation of non-resident entertainers and athletes in seven countries -- Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The book deals with the many sources of income which such individuals can derive, including income from live performances, television appearances, commercials, product endorsements, royalties for record sales or `needle time', and merchandising of concert paraphernalia. The primary focus of the book is income tax, although VAT regimes are also considered. In addition, the book provides in-depth analysis of Article 17 (Artists and Sportsmen) of the OECD Model Tax Treaty, particularly regarding the extensive additions to the Commentary to that Article made in 1992 based on the OECD's 1987 report on the taxation of entertainers and athletes. The book contains a table summarising the tax treaty provisions applicable to personal services income derived by entertainers and athletes in the seven countries reviewed. Two examples (one dealing with a touring pop group and the other with a professional tennis player) are used to illustrate, compare and contrast the manner in which income earned by non-resident entertainers and athletes is treated under domestic income tax and VAT regimes (where applicable) in these countries. Finally, conclusions are drawn, at the domestic and international levels, regarding policy and practical considerations in the effective and efficient taxation of such individuals.

Customer Reviews:
My gosh, what a sad waste.......2002-12-31
Someone used the word snippet to describe what is included in this production; it is a good term. So, snippet it is; but what has been included gives no introduction, no explanation, no explication, no nothing. The tape is of different bits of Shakespeare's plays which run rapidly into each other. To get any fair use out of this work the listener needs to sit with a printed copy of the complete works sitting on his or her lap otherwise the whole exercise is meaningless. Shakespeare requires understanding what is being said in context. This tape would be better served if it included a brief introduction regarding which play the snippet came from and how the dialog ties in with the action. Without this information only those who have read all the plays will not be lost. There are not many who can claim that background. So, as a stand-alone audio, for most of us, this tape is a sad waste.
A great way to hear many different interpretations.......2002-12-20
I own this on cassette, and hope that it will soon be released on CD.
I play it almost every 3 months or so especially as I search for new audition monologues.
It is a great way to hear various interpretations of speeches, snippets from some of the more less performed plays (Henry VIII and Coriolanus are two examples), and some of the theater's best actors in their finest roles.
Highly recommend

The Best Shakespeare Anthology There Is.......2000-03-31
Over the years, I think I've tried every collection of Shakespeares's speeches available and this is by far the best. You have the best Shakepearean actors of all time (Olivier, Burton, etc) doing the greatest scenes. One of the major pluses (overlooked in most audio anthologies) is that the introductions are kept in the notes where they belong. There is no narrator interrupting the poetry with a background on each scene, just a pause. My only quibble (and it is minor) is the sound quality on some of the scenes taped during a stage performance. Also note: the audio cassette edition is complete, the CD is abridged.

"Helping Your Kids..." is Down-to-earth Wisdom from Above!.......2001-03-27
Kendra Smiley's "Helping Your Kids Make Good Choices" is insightful and full of wisdom, but also enjoyable and easy to read. Her real life examples and Bible stories brought to life are extremely helpful and often amusing. The book not only gives the tools to help your kids make good choices, but the surprise was that it helped me think about my OWN decisions as well. I used to think that if you were a Christian your kids would turn out fine; but I have too many Christian friends whose kids are now ages 16 - 21 and are making bad life-changing choices. If this can happen in good Christian families, then we need every tool available to help avoid it. Kendra's book is such a tool!!!!! This is an excellent book for parents and parents-to-be.
Helping Your Kids Make Good Choices.......2001-02-20
I found this book to be very beneficial as two of our children are in school and are now experiencing social pressures. (Even at second grade and kindergarten!!) Many of the book's points are so practical and easy to incorporate into daily decision making. The fact that the basis for the book is taken from the Bible is all the more important for our family as we try to make scripture and christian values a part of our daily life. I would recommend this book to anyone with children or anyone considering a family. Thank you Kendra!!
Helping Your Kids Make Good Choices.......2001-02-11
As a Christian Mom I am faced every day with the task of helping our two kids make choices. I often forget to guide them through the process with a Biblical perspective. Kendra's book was right on track with very real examples. Many of her examples hit home and made me realize how much more I can do when it comes to helping my kids make choices. The book was great; I enjoyed Kendra's style and sense of humor. This was just what I needed to read!
Practical and Documented Advice for Parents!.......2001-02-02
As the parent of a toddler, this book opened my eyes to the BIG PICTURE when it comes to the choices our children make. I especially appreciated the author's ability to document the success of her advice through historical reference and personal experience. Her practical and hands-on suggestions have given me the confidence I needed as a parent to work WITH my child when it comes to his life choices!
Practical Advice for a Busy Parent.......2001-01-01
In an age of too much information, this was a book that I could use TODAY! I found her advice to be practical and inspirational. It also helped me understand that, as with most things in life, becoming a better parent is a choice. My boys are reaping the rewards of my taking just a few hours to read this book!! I'm looking forward to her next book.

How Would You Survive As an Ancient Egyptian?.......2003-04-07
I had to use this book as a report on Ancient Egypt. It had so much information on everything that I needed. It had information on mummies, life, and gods, and more all in this book. If it wasn't for this book I wouldn't be hear with a good grade.
How Would You Survive As An Ancient Egyptian?.......2001-01-12
As an educator and parent, I found this book to be phenomenol! The kids in my classroom were fascinated by all the details and illustrations that show what it was really like to be an Egyptian on a daily basis. It has a "quiz" at the end of the book that's fun to take to test your skills as to what you learned. This book really takes you back to Egypt and helps you put your own two feet into the real world of Egypt! Superb detail on every subject; housing, foods, typical daily life, women in society, mummification. Just wonderful!
