Dosage Calculations.......2007-10-10
I believe that this book is too vague and does not provide enough information. It does not explain why or how things are done and does not provide better examples of each type of problems. I believe that the book Calculate with Confidence is a much better book as it provides much more information. Unfortunately, the school I go to requires Dosage Calculations.
Dosage Calculations.......2007-09-24
This book has been a lifesaver so far. It gives an excellent review of fractions, percents and ratios that I desperately needed. The format is easy to read and it provides excellent practice questions and self tests.
Not bad.........2007-09-16
There are a few mistakes with the anwers and it would be nice if there were step by step solutions to some of the practice questions. It does offer a few good rule of thumbs/tips. Just memorize the basic conversions and do the practice scenarios and dosage calculations start to make sense.
surprised.......2007-04-12
I bought a lot of books from amazon, this time is the worst one. when I open the package, I am unhappy to see that the book without any covering as before it with. and even worse, there are some dirty dots on the cover. Is this the book I spent 51 dollars on?
bad quality.
Easy to Use.......2007-03-16

Good book for personal library........2007-01-05
I purchased this book for my personal library, and I was not disappointed by how the material in the book presents math in an enjoyable way.
Excellent Teaching Vehicle.......2006-02-01
Not having paid much attention in school (60 yrs ago) and learning computer programming dicated the need for a refresher course in basic mathematics. The author's approach to teaching is to demonstrate the problem and its various solutions and then provide numerous (up to 60 or more problems for the student to work. Answers are provided only for the odd-numbered review exercises. Chapter tests and cumulative review exercises have answers to all the problems. The text is written in clear language that is easily understandable. As with all endeavors effort is needed on the part of the student. The title is somewhat misleading in that I view this book as a "review" or "refersher" course in basic math not as an introduction to college mathematics which I assumed to be on a much higher plane. At the present I am a third of the way through the book and enjoy it. I highly recommend this book for someone who needs to catch up on their abc's of math. Unlike a lot of books this one has plenty of the hands-on approach to doing math. If you need to learn numbers, this is the place to start.
I hate math but I love this book!.......2005-11-29
at the ripe old age of 45, I had to retake math and for somebody whose math skills aren't above fourth grade, I dreaded the idea. This book made things easy for me. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is that the algebra section was severely lacking but one math book cannot cover everything. I even used this book in my allied health math class and that book for that class STANK. I resorted back to this book many times as a refresher. My professor for the allied health math class would explain a long, drawn-out version of how to find an answer and a simple shortcut was supplied in this book. I would have the answer before the professor was even half way done with HIS method! I can't imagine ever giving up this book.
Basic College Mathematics.......2005-09-27
I was terribly disappointed as the text received is the instructors edition with all answers noted within the text. As a student of course this text was not what I thought I was purchasing. It was too late to return the text as the semester was in session at the time the text was purchased. I will definitely not use this service again as there will questions as to what I will receive and there is no time for returning and reordering text. Thanx for asking
The best Basic College Mathematics book.......2005-09-10
The book is really easy to read and follow directions.
I like the exercise reviews after each class and the test at the end of each chapter it is very helpful.
I really recomend this book.

Exactly what I needed.......2007-09-22
This book was much cheeper than the school book store and it was the exact same thing. It came in a very short time from ordering which is very important for a student! Thanks Amazon!
Dimensional Analysis for Meds.......2007-09-21
Purchased for college course. Book content and disk are both good. Math excercises on disk make learning/review very quick (e.g. decimal fractions - study + testing/mastery in an hour or so). Book itself however (paperback) had defective binding cover came unglued on 2nd day, but pages stayed intact. I plan to reglue myself.Dimensional Analysis for Meds
Execellent CD-ROM.......2007-09-19
I love the CD-ROM that came with this book. It makes the whole dimensional analysis process easy to learn and understand. After the first few lessons, I understand how to calculate a dose and an IV infusion rate and I haven't even read much of the text. Maybe it's just how I learn, but I find the CD-ROM alone to be worth the price of the book. If you have insecurities about math, this is the way to go.
review of service.......2007-08-23
I was pleased with the book as well as the service - it shipped on the day listed and arrived in two business days not four
Poorly devised text..........2007-08-16
I agree that one would reckon that 3 editions and in charging almost $80 for a text that is less than half an inch thick, Thompson could competently execute simple math operations. Next time, I will just run copies of a text for my partner and I, rather than pay for such a confounded and exploitative text.
Book Description
Reflecting many of the concerns of NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, the ninth edition of Error Patterns in Computation is the only book available that assists teachers with identifying typical error patterns, receiving feedback on their diagnosis, and gaining insight regarding why a child may have adopted an incorrect procedure.
Two major causes of error patterns - over-generalizing and over-specializing - are discussed. Simple and well organized, this book explains common errors students make in computation in every math operation and with whole numbers, rational numbers, geometry and algebra.
This book is an ideal resource for teachers of mathematics in education or special education at the elementary or middle school level.

This book totally helps!.......2004-05-20
Being a mathophobe, I was terrified when I registered for the class. But since I had to buy this book for my math class, then math all of a sudden was really easy! I actually understood the WORD problems with ease and what not!! The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 5 star rating is that there are many typos in the book, especially in chapter 6.2: there are at least three typos in this specific area if and when you are assigned the odd problems; and what's more, if you want a good laugh, check out pages 455-456. You'll see what I mean!
Buy this book now!.......2003-10-30
I am a 34 year old student that has struggled with math my entire life. I have failed many math classes in college because I just did not clearly understand how to do the math problems. I enrolled at Harbor College in Willmington, CA this fall 2003 and purchased this required book. To my amazement, this book is written in a way that a dummie like me can easily learn all the lessons. I now have a class grade of 95 and FINALLY because of this book, I can do algebra word problems, and I understand how to check them. I am even tutoring some of my classmates, WOW! thats not too bad for a dummie! I thank the author for creating the best prealgebra book I have ever seen. It is written STEP-BY-STEP and in the most basic format that can be explained. Please only purchase this book. You will not be dissapointed and you will pass prealgebra. All thanks to K. Elayn Martin-Gay, what a job you did putting the book together!
Substantial, and Rich exercises.......2002-10-18
This workbook is packed with a lot of examples and rich exercises; which are presented in incremental development fashion. My two children, 10 and 11 year old, have high math aptitude; two grades beyond their average level. I bought this workbook to help them in the transition to algebra and trigonometry. They are able to go thru most of these execises in one summer. I must admit the quality of the lessons and exercises have this quite enjoyable and intuitive for my children to absorb.
A MUST FOR STUDENTS CONSIDERING ALGEBRA.......2002-06-08
Being that I am 28 years of age and a freshman in college, I was placed in the remedial math class for which this text was required. I was terrified due to the fact I failed math in high school and even the WORD Algebra scared me. This book has great examples and it really helped me understand the concepts of Algebra. I have a 97% average in my class and when I go onto Algebra I next term, I won't be so terrified! :)

Good math book, but has typo's........2007-07-18
This book is helping me getting freshed up in math but it contains a few typo's. For example, on page 7 it says there are two #5 problems. There should be obviously one problem #5 and the other is problem #6. Nevertheless, it is a good math book. I just wished it gave more examples on how to actually DO some of the work.
Not as advertised.......2007-02-18
I loved the grade 6-8 edition of this book for reviewing math with my daughter. It is an excellent step by step approach to middle school math. This edition is the same book with very little added. It is not "high school" math. I wouldn't call it "Book Two". I was expecting something very different based on the title. Highly recommended for 6-7 grade math practice and review.
From the mind of a child.......2006-10-18
This is an amazing book. i didn't need to use the book for homeschooling or anything but it helped me with my confidence going into sixth grade.

Good book.......2006-06-07
I used this book in my home school this year and all three of my kids tested many grade levels above average. Great book.
A Very Enthusiastic Review.......2006-01-20
Over the years, I have purchased countless "learning guides" for my two daughters. We always started with the best intentions but quickly became bored and found an excuse to try something else.
Mastering Essential Math skills (6-8) is different! We are trying to figure out what to do when we complete this book. (Only about 20 more pages). I wish there was a sequel!
I am not aware of any other books that do a quick review of basic skills, a good review of newly learned materials, followed by a new lesson on almost every page. There is an overall review for the section as well as the book. It's fast paced learning with review, review, review.
I have recommended this book to my friends and would recommend it to you as well.

Good-but wordy.......2006-04-30
The book was very helpful in helping me to finally learn Algebra. My complaint though is that the wording is too much and very confusing to understand for anyone who has a hard time with math. Get rid of the large pictures/graphs, study tips and objectives and maybe this book wouldn't be so big and heavy. The examples were what saved me because they were well defined and I wouldn't have understood what to do based on the explanations. Overall a good book.
Excellent book.......2005-10-14
I used this book for several math courses at DeVry Online. I am dyscalculic and this book helped me immensely
