Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Dallas & Peabody are smoking! .......2007-04-11

The year 2059. The story...reknown plastic surgeon killed by a single stab wound in the heart. Eve Dallas, on the scene with her trusted sidekick Peabody are determined to get to the bottom of who killed the doctor with the cleanest reputation of the planet. When his son, another plastic surgeon turns up dead, Eve is determined to get to the heart of the mystery before any more deaths. Eventually, a story that appears to be clear cut, turns in a complicated story involving ethics and morality as related to medicine. What would we do if we could? That is what is most relevant to the story....like today, the vision of the future is of a society who desires perfection no matter the cost. Of course Eve, flawed and human as the next does not understand and never will why humans aren't satisfied. And of course, like Roarke (the gazillionare of Eve's dreams) Eve realizes that part of what makes her what she is are her imperfections.

5 out of 5 stars What starts out as a straight up murder investigation..........2007-04-01

...turns into something far more troubling for Eve and her team. In addition to being a heck of a mystery, the book touches on troubling moral debates, making it gripping and thought-provoking!

As always, Robb rocks!

5 out of 5 stars Story surpasses few minor problems.......2007-01-25

The story begins with a child, who seems to be used as a human gunea pig. Said child, is eventually killed by "father" aka Dr. Wilfred Icove Sr. because she failed the intelligence tests she was being given.

Fast forward to the present when a woman stabs Dr. Icove Sr. through the heart with a scalpel. Shortly after that, his son Dr. Icove Jr. is murdered in exactly the same way.

As Eve Dallas begins to dig into why someone would wish to kill the saintly doctors Icove, her husband, Roarke suggests that perhaps they were a modern day version of Dr. Frankenstein. The more Eve digs, the more she realizes her husband is right, but its far worse than either could imagine.

The minor problems is once again being subjected another of Eve's dead daddy dreams. Having read all the In Death novels, for me, the dead daddy dreams have gotten really old. The other problem is Dr. Mira and her once again proclaiming, "Eve, I'm your mother!" All the other characters work so well together, but Mira just has never worked or fit in with the other characters. And the psuedo mother/daughter relationship just doesn't work or fit in with the tough as nails Eve character.

As I said, the story is so good even those nuisances don't detract from it. It's definitely a must-read for those intrigued with the whole issue of cloning human beings.

Book Description

Flaunt magazine declares LAbyrinth "absolutely impossible to put down" -- a book whose stunning discoveries are nonetheless "incredibly thorough and surprisingly credible." Acclaimed journalist Randall Sullivan follows Russell Poole, a highly decorated LAPD detective who in 1997 was called to investigate a controversial cop-on-cop shooting, and eventually discovered that the officer killed was tied to Marion "Suge" Knight's notorious gangsta-rap label, Death Row Records. During his investigation, Poole would come to realize that a growing cadre of black officers were allied not only with Death Row but with the murderous Bloods street gang. And incredibly, he began to uncover evidence that at least some of these "gangsta cops" may have been involved in the murders of rap superstars Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Still more shocking is what happened when Russell Poole became lead investigator in the murder of Notorious B.I.G.: as his shrewd detective work pointed to crooked cops such as David Mack, who orchestrated one of the biggest bank heists in Los Angeles history, Poole found his investigation stifled by a police chief wary of doing further damage to a department already sullied by the O. J. Simpson trial, the Rodney King beating, and the Rampart corruption scandal. Could it be that the Rampart scandal -- in which dozens of officers were implicated in a conspiracy of robbery, brutality, drug dealing, and false imprisonment -- was only a smokescreen for a far more damaging debacle? Igniting a firestorm of controversy in the music industry and the Los Angeles media, the hardcover publication of LAbyrinth helped to prompt two lawsuits against the LAPD (one brought by the widow and mother of Notorious B.I.G., the other by Poole himself) that may finally bring this story completely out of the shadows. Entertainment Weekly insists that "no single source presents so complete or damning a record" of this "compelling" epic tale of L.A. noir. "[An] engrossing, damning tale of widespread unchecked corruption in one of the nation's largest police departments, one that deserves attention." -- Renee Graham, The Boston Globe " "A deftly told, immensely relevant, true-life potboiler from the streets of urban America." -- Kirkus Reviews " "LAbyrinth is a jeremiad, leveling everything in its path." -- R. J. Smith, Los Angeles Magazine "You don't have to know anything about any of this to love this book." -- Carolyn See, The Washington Post "You haven't got the goods on any of these notorious cases until you read this intricate show-biz true-crime thriller." -- Mike Tribby, Booklist "Sullivan's reportorial writing style accurately reflects the investigative work ... while building the drama within the truly labyrinthine political cover-ups." -- Publishers Weekly

5 out of 5 stars Mindblowing Information.......2006-10-12

This book is one of the main reasons I could not bring myself to vote for former LAPD police chief Bernard Parks, in our most recent mayoral race. Seems we were so worried about more negative press in this city, we too often just looked the other way. One of the better documented works on the subject; the background info on L.A. street gangs, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. are worth the cost alone. Will keep you glued to the pages.

5 out of 5 stars Great book, very well-written.......2006-09-02

I recommend this book for several reasons. First off, it is extremely well-written. There's no rambling, it's very well researched, and the way the stories and facts are expressed are not dry at all. The writer, Randall Sullivan, writes for Rolling Stone magazine, so it's presented in that style. Even if you aren't interested in the Tupac/Biggie story, this book still goes deep into the origins of the Bloods and Crips, East coast and West coast rap feuds, and especially, just how corrupt the LAPD was(and probably still is). I've read other books on these subjects, including the recently released book by "hip-hop cop" Derrick Parker, but this book is by far the best. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Mindblowing!.......2004-07-21

If ur a fan of either tupac or biggie GET THIS BOOK .....russell poole blows the lid on how death row was really run. He explaines the level of corruption within the LAPD, and how and why the investigations into their murders remain unsloved. After reading this book, and watching the Nick Sullivan Biggie and Tupac dvd, its plain and obvious to all who was behind their murders!

3 out of 5 stars Biased author, unsympathetic characters.......2003-08-28

As a fan of both Tupac and Biggie, I was very interested in learning more about what really went down. Former Officer Poole seems to think he has the answers so I was eager to learn what he knows draw my own conclusions. I was very disappointed.

First of all, to my absolute surprise, nobody else seems to have picked up on the author's extreme bias. For example, on page 14 of the hardcover version, Sullivan notes that "[In the early 1960s], as now, black males committed a hugely disproportionate amount of crime in Los Angeles and across the country." WHAT? I can't even believe that went to print. Question: do black males commit a disproportionate amount of crime in this country or are they accused and convicted disproportionately? At the very least, if you're gonna make such outrageous comments, back it up. With no statistical data, I consider Sullivan's comment to be hearsay. Then, just a few pages later, on page 18, Sullivan gets a little diatribe going about how the LAPD hiring process has become less stringent over time, noting that "liberals had successfully argued that [baring applicants with juvenile records] limited the number of blacks and Hispanics who could join the LAPD." I'm not even 20 pages into the book, and my reading of the author is that he really doesn't like minorities or "liberals," whatever the latter term means to him because he sure doesn't define anything. Yet I decided to take these and similar comments with a grain of salt and press forward with the book.

If one-tenth of what's written in these pages is true, Biggie and Tupac were just as despicible as Suge Knight, the LAPD, the affiliated gangs, the attorneys and just about everyone else who graced the pages of the book. And that made me really sad because it's hard for me to listen to the music the same way. Tupac and Biggie were not innocent; they were just greedy [...] who courted violence successfully. Truthfully, none of the stuff about the LAPD or any of the other authority figures surprised me. Money and testosterone--bad combination. Lest you think I'm a man-hater, the women in this book are appalling, too. I hate to say it but Tupac and Biggie got what they deserved.

I do think that Sullivan's style is extremely readable and engaging. I also like the way he attempted to provide background on the LAPD history, the history of the Crips and the Bloods, etc. If you're not likely to be critical going into this book, it's not bad for escapism. Unless you were living in a plastic bubble or don't keep up w/ current events, I doubt that you'll be blown away by the overall picture Sullivan paints.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.......2003-07-26

An outstanding book. Very well researched and a methodical investigtion of the underworld that the rap music business has become. To the few people who thought that this book was a waste of time I can't imagine that you read the same book. There is so much evidence that the top brass of the LAPD covered up certain investigations that it is overwhelming.

Book Description

This investigative work explores the Eastern legend that upon crucifixion, Jesus did not in fact die on the cross but was taken secretly to India, where he lived to a ripe old age and eventually died. The tomb Rozabal, which is located in the proximity of Srinagar, the capital city of the northern state of Kashmir, India, is claimed to be that of Jesus. The book also examines two other important Eastern legends dealing with the death and resurrection of Jesus, those of the shroud of Turin and the holy miracle light of Jerusalem. The book should be of great interest to a wide variety of readers, including religious historians, theologians and common readers, Christian as well as non-Christians.

1. Interesting: different perspectives have been collected nicely and makes the reader inquisitive. 2. Thought Provoking: as it addresses a very crucial and sensitive subject dear to about half of the world population. Did Jesus die on the cross or not? Key question is being addressed. 3. Poor Judgment: Firstly, the author was unable to separate Khwaja Nazir's work from Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's work. Many places he tends to mix up his comments. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Started Ahmadiyya Movement. Khwaja Nazir wrote an independent book as one of his followers who later separated from MIrza Ghulam Ahmad's group and joined the splinter group. While making remark abour Nazir's work, he stereotypes all Ahmedis by saing Ahmadiyya stance. Secondly: Just because Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's work presented in Jesus in India has substantial data from authentic Eastern sources and literary works, Pappas has considered it almost invalid or unauthentic. If The tomb lies in the East, how one could reject the info from the neighboring sites located around the Kashmir area, just because it is not written by Westerners. P. Beskow has done the same mistake as has been pointed out correctly by James Deardorff. Both Pappas and Beskow consider the wealth of info presented by most authentic sources of East as unacceptable as it was not initiated from the west. Very poor judgment indeed. One must be objective and analytical in one's approach while evaluating the material on scholastice merits rather than origin of the person. History reveals tha all teh current advancement in Mathematics and sciences did not start in the west rather they originated from Muslims like Algebra, Alchemy, AlHikmat etc. Let the readers judge for themselves.

5 out of 5 stars A book that shoud be read by believers and others.......1997-04-11

The book is about fact-and-legend based material on the life of Jesus. The author discusses and analyses the gospels along with local tradition from ancient Palestine all the way to Kashmir India. The main theme of the book is that the alleged tomb of "Jusasef the Prophet" located in Shrinegar, Kashmir should be investigated in order to verify whether it belongs to Jesus Christ who, according to the Koran and local tradition, did not die on the cross but fled to Kashmir to teach to the lost tribes of Israel

5 out of 5 stars A "Must Read".......2001-01-25

Those not familiar with Elisabeth's work might do well to read her article entitled, "Feminist Theology as a Critical Theology of Liberation". That article, published in a number of edited collections of feminist theology, lays out the methodology she uses in, "In Memory of Her". Just as important, those not familiar with her work should begin this book with the understanding that it demands to be studied, not just read, very carefully. It is not a written motivational talk, i.e. to help women feel better about themselves. Women are not the problem. The book is written to challenge the deeply embedded assumptions scholars and people of faith make about biblical religion, biblical texts, and religious authority. It is the challenge, not just the book, that is formidable.

4 out of 5 stars Radical scholarly work on women in early christianity.......1999-11-09

From Biblical and extra-canonical literature, Schussler-Fiorenza gleans many little jewels of insight into the role of women in the early church. She compares the epistles of Peter and Paul, which enjoin restraint and submission of women, to the writers of the primary Gospels who emphasize altruistic love and service, not any form of hierarchy, as the substance of spiritual life. She relates the social conventions and legal roles of women in the ancient Roman world to the emergence of patriarchal church-institutions, in contrast to house-churches which could be headed by women. The picture which emerges is a very diverse early christian millieu in which women prophesied, presided over the eucharist, supported missionaries, and were missionaries themselves.

Unfortunately, the picture is hard to see if you are unaccustomed to the language of biblical scholarship and feminist historical reconstruction. For most people interested in feminist theology, this is not the book to start with. I wish someone would rewrite it for a broader audience. In substance it is exactly the kind of background that every woman should have, in order to understand how she has been viewed, defined, and influenced by christianity and christian-dominated culture.

It should be required reading (along with a diet of bread and water and daily flagellation) for every Catholic bishop who is not demanding the ordination of women in his church.

Book Description

"Everyone dies, but no one is dead," goes the Tibetan saying. It is with these words that Advice on Dying takes flight. Using a seventeenth-century poem written by a prominent scholar-practitioner, His Holiness the Dalai Lama draws from a wide range of traditions and beliefs to explore the stages we all go through when we die, which are the very same stages we experience in life when we go to sleep, faint, or reach orgasm (Shakespeare's "little death").

The stages are described so vividly that we can imagine the process of traveling deeper into the mind, on the ultimate journey of transformation. In this way, His Holiness shows us how to prepare for that time and, in doing so, how to enrich our time on earth, die without fear or upset, and influence the stage between this life and the next so that we may gain the best possible incarnation. As always, the ultimate goal is to advance along the path to enlightenment. Advice on Dying is an essential tool for attaining that eternal bliss.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Technical Manual on Physical and Spiritual Reality of Death and Living a Better Life.......2007-02-10

Did you know that Tibetan Buddhism is tantric? That is just one of the revelations of this book. It is obvious that, through the ages, the meditation masters have been observing the physical symptons of death and dying. This book explains the physical symptoms one experiences at each stage of the process of dying, described in a thick context of a metaphor of energies and levels of mind. (If you are a spiritual mystic, you'll love this! I must admit, I have had to read it a couple of times to get my Western mind to surrender -- but the journey is worth the concentration.) When I get to my death bead, instead of allowing the people around me to mourn, I have written instructions for my family to have someone read this book to me (over and over if I last that long) -- whether I'm apparently conscious or not (and I will invite the others to read Hesse's Siddhartha and go home and forgive someone they hate). Along with physical symptons of dying, this book details the journey of the mind and consciousness as the traveler experiences the only event we are all born to experience. Many thanks to the Dalai Lama and his teachers.

This book can be divided up into smaller parts. The first part is a forward by Jeffrey Hopkins which discusses in part the Panchen Lama and also the Dalai Lama. He talks about the identification of these figures and how the Chinese who supposedly have "liberated" Tibet have started their own identification processes. Hopkins is very critical of Chinese politics and their involvement in Tibet. The second part of the book deals with a 17 stanza poem written by the first Panchen Lama of Tibet. The present Dalai Lama goes on to break down this poem and comment on certain aspects of it.

I enjoyed the first half of this book because of its historical and practical information. The Dalai Lama gives practical advice on how we all need to practice daily and how it's best to have an awareness of death. When we are aware of reality we can conquer any fears we may have about life or the death process. He elaborates on the advantages and the disadvantages of being mindful during the time of death. However, the latter part of the book in my opinion got bogged down in mysticism and myth and was a lot less interesting. It seemed as if I was reading about blind ritual with no practical advice but instead endless comments about esoteric subjects. I found my eyes glossing over more than once. Therefore, the book was okay for some simple wisdom and inspirational advice but it's a chore to keep yourself motivated all the way thru.

4 out of 5 stars A Book About Life.......2005-03-30

After having received this book along with another book by The Dalai Lama, How to Practice:The Way to a Meaningful Life, I read the other one first since based on the titles alone I thought that it would have more application to little ol secular me than a very narrow book about death. After having read both of them though I am shocked to see that I was wrong - despite what I had initially though I got more out of this book as a non-Buddhist that I got out of the first one.

While I have long been familiar with the idea that the specter of death can give one their driving force in life - when tomorrow isn't promised to you today is all that you have - I have never heard it more eloquently expressed than here.

Certainly there were parts of this book that I did not find applicable except from an academic standpoint since I myself am not Buddhist but on the whole I was surprised by just how much of this book could be seen as important for the Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike. And as with the earlier book I had read by him one of the main treats of this one was to get to experience what a remarkable man The Dalai Lama comes across as through his writings - not only as a sincerely religious man but also a truly modern man embracing science as another way to probe the divine rather than shunning it.

The only thing that really stands out in my mind as something that I didn't like in this book was the translator, Jeffrey Hopkins. I don't remember his forward in the previous book I read as being notable but his one in this book seems to serve no other purpose than to express his deep contempt for the Chinese government - naturally there is a reason for this but it can't help but put a bad taste in your mouth when you read something like that before starting a book about Buddhism. The forward did contain interesting information about how the Panchen Lama and Dalai Lama are selected but I still think the reading experience would be better off without it.

All in all though I must say that The Dalai Lama, as an author and as a person, has greatly exceeded any initial expectations that I came to his books with. No doubt his other works would prove as enjoyable and I am sure I will make my way to them before too long.

4 out of 5 stars Much concentrated wisdom here.......2003-07-07

The Buddhist preoccupation with death almost borders on the morbid. In fact the awareness of your impermanence and the inevitability of your own death is the cornerstone of the whole religion. There is almost no concept of an omipotent, omnipresent God and the focus is really on attaining an ever present, compassionate and wisdom filled state of mind. This is what draws me to Buddhism.

This book by Jeffrey Hopkins is a translation of the Dalai Lama's interpretation of a poem by the first Panchen Lama. The poem is quite cryptic by itself but the Dalai Lama's interpretation and Hopkins's skillful translation draw out the many gems of knowledge embedded in its seventeen stanzas. Iam convinced after reading this book that the Tibetans knew more about death and rebirth than anyone else.

In an age of self help books to fix every problem of your life in isolation, this book addresses the fundamental source of all our anxieties, fears and unhappiness. The Dalai Lama states boldly and simply that the only good way to live life to its fullest is to meditate on our own impermanence and impending mortality until we can accept it fully and be prepared to utilize our deaths to propel us and other sentient beings in the path of enlightenment.

We have no way of verifying the correctness of the descriptions of the several stages of death, the intermediate state and rebirth but this book is filled with so much compassion and wisdom that all that is said there can only be true.

3 out of 5 stars Practical.......2002-12-23

His Holiness, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama has done it again! He has given us a statement of simple spirituality, efficacious for both the practicing Buddhist and the non-Buddhist, alike. Although many of his concepts may seem mysterious, or even ineffable, to the non-Buddhist, his basic advice is sound. His Holiness calls upon all of us to meditate upon our inevitable deaths, and thereby to more fully appreciate this life, and facilitate our passage into the next. That's good counsel no matter what your religion!

    Book Description

This volume juxtaposes philosophical and psychoanalytic speculation with literary and artistic commentary in order to approach a set of questions concerning the human relation to language, a relation that cannot be taken as an “object” of critical or philosophical reflection in the traditional manner. Exploring the exigencies of figuring this relation at the limits of language, the multifold writing of this volume takes the form of a “triptych” (following the model of works by Francis Bacon) rather than that of a thesis.

The central (and organizing) section of the volume contains an extended dialogue on two textual passages portraying versions of what the author describes as “the death of the infans.” With the strange resonance of the “primal” or the “originary,” these two scenes from works by Maurice Blanchot and Jacques Lacan invite a reflection on the mortal exposure that marks the human share in the advent of language, an exposure whose figuration is necessary to any speech or conscious life. The dialogue explores the ethical and philosophical issues that surface in a practice of writing (a “pragmatics”) that engages this necessary figuration, and thus the limits of language. The latter issues are also explored in a brief essay on Antigone that concludes the dialogical fiction.

The first and third parts of the volume’s triptych address artistic projects that realize in their respective ways a pragmatics like that of the central section. The first part focuses on the work of Francis Bacon, taking the motif of crucifixion as a path toward understanding his violent realism. This essay is prefaced by a consideration of the notion of cruelty to which Nietzsche appeals in The Genealogy of Morals. The third part, which juxtaposes a dialogue with a critical essay, concerns the work of Salvatore Puglia. Through Bacon and Puglia, the author seeks another approach to a figural imperative at the limits of language.

5 out of 5 stars Origin in Death - Another masterpiece.......2005-08-23

J D Robb aka Nora Roberts has written a fascinating novel, another in the Eve and Roarke saga. Cloning and plastic surgery with murder and the lives of children who are used/abused for cloning experimentation.
The ability to create perfect human beings and to be able to control there growth and life achievements/successes through institutionalised rearing-a dangerous prescient to the future.
Frightening plot when you consider that the human race is moving toward this idea of society already.

This novel really forces you to face a future that we may yet be apart of if Science has its way. Eve's homicide brings all this to the forefront and she, Roarke and her team must deal with Dr Death and his experimental human clones and cloning laboratory. How to do this and protect the innocent, many of which are infant human clones and children?

An amazing novel! J D Robb has written another masterpiece.

In this well-documented expose of AIDS and cancer research, Dr. Cantwell links the outbreak of AIDS in the late 1970s to the government-sponsored hepatitis B viral vaccine experiments that used gay men as guinea pigs in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. African AIDS traces back to smallpox vaccine programs conducted in Africa in the mid-1970s. The only book that clearly explains why AIDS is a man-made epidemic produced by a genetically-engineered, laboratory-produced virus.

4 out of 5 stars something I would like to point out.......2007-01-04

I haven't read this book. It was referred to me by a friend. However, I would just like to point out that Dr. Robert Strecker's brother Ted, was found dead in his home from a gunshot wound. This was ruled a suicide even though there was no note or goodbye message of any kind. In addition, an Illinois state Rep. named Douglas Huff who was really pushing to get the state legislature to look into Dr. Strecker's work, was found in his home dead of an apparent overdose of cocaine and heroin. His death was officially ruled a stroke. Make of that what you will.

      5 out of 5 stars Good Book.......2003-12-02

This book is a good start on studying how the aids virus came about. This along with Dr. David Horowitz's Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola--Nature, Accident or Intentional? should be enough to suggest that AIDS is man-made disease. For those of you who barf at the possiblity that it was targeted towards blacks and gays I urge you to go do your homework and see what percentage of those infected are black or gay or both. The numbers alone speak for themselves.

3 out of 5 stars Summary and Comments by Paul Tran.......2002-11-23

In the past 3 months, I have been doing research on theories about the origin of AIDS and HIV. Upon finding different beliefs, Dr. Alan Cantwell's proposal that AIDS is a man-made disease startled me significantly. I was totally stunned, however, I was very impressed with his examples and his courage, to publish such a controversial book. In this book, Cantwell presents the idea that HIV was created in a lab, which later spread into humans through the early hepatitis B vaccines in the 1970's.
As one of his arguments, he discusses about the early virus experiments that occurred in the 1960's. During this time, many famous researchers and scientists, such as Max Essex, Peter Duesberg, and Robert Gallo, were involved in developing a cancer-like virus that had the ability to create deficiency in the immune system. These tests were practiced on many different animals, including monkeys. With some success, they were able to create viruses that was immuno-supressive. Occasionally, these animals would be shipped from one laboratory to another one, and also some were eventually let back into the wild. One could infer that Cantwell believed that the virus developed in the lab and slowly introduced into the wild. However, Cantwell did not go into further detail about what happened after the release of these infected-animals, nor does he have any record of these animals. Therefore the possibility of this hypothesis is very slim, but could be possible.
Cantwell then later discussed about the possible outbreak of AIDS into society through hepatitis B vaccination, which was directed on gays. He argued that AIDS developed right after the vaccination, which was during the early 1980's. He also pointed out that the vaccinations took place in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City and contrasted these facts to the evidence that AIDS started in the same cities. Therefore, Cantwell came to a conclusion that HIV was created in laboratories and used on gays to develop the outbreak of AIDS.
Cantwell's proposal that HIV was man-made and that AIDS was introduced into the human population through the hepatitis B vaccination, is a very interesting and amusing theory. His claims seem to be very radical because his beliefs were based on assumptions. He has no real evidence that suggests and can prove that AIDS was man-made. This makes the first part of his argument questionable. He also wasn't able to prove that hepatitis B vaccinations caused AIDS, which makes the reader question the credibility of his argument. However, his claim cannot be looked down upon either because his arguments were reasonable. In other words, his arguments cannot be proven; however, it provides information that leads the reader into believing the cliché, "anything can happen." Therefore, I think that it is a good book to read for those who are interested, but it shouldn't be taken to seriously.
Overall, I recommend this book to readers who are open-minded, since the topics discussed are very controversial and resemble the science fiction novels. It's a good book to increase ones knowledge about the various theories on AIDS and the ongoing virus experiments that occurred in the 1960's. However, for those hard-core-evidence audience, the zoonosis theory seems to be more appropriate. Don't believe what I say, find out for yourself!

5 out of 5 stars READ IT, READ IT, READ IT.......2000-12-01

Look, I've been nosing around this epidemic for decades, and anyone out there who DARES to think that all is not kosher in the world of research and drug money, well... read on.

This is no raving fringe lunatic writing a screed.

This is terrifying, and should come as no surprise to anyone who knows about previous and similar clinical trials foisted upon unsuspecting minorities.

      5 out of 5 stars Absolutely terrifying!.......1999-02-04

I was overwhelmed by Dr. Cantwell's courageous and controversial research, as well as that of his colleague Dr. Robert Strecker. This is the first book I've read that details the epidemic in such stunning clarity. I am convinced that Cantwell has discovered the abominable origin of this man-made epidemic. I only hope the Orwellian "doctors" from institutes of "higher learning" who created this hell on Earth (by casually tossing aside their Hippocratic oath), suffer the first-hand experience of a loved one afflicted with this devastating disease. If that's what it takes to inspire them to "heal". . .
