Road Trip???.......2007-10-06
These two authors basically drive around the country and pour out verbal diahrea on boring facts about their trip that no one in their right mind should care about. They are actually proud of the fact that they only???? spent 80k in one year of travelling. They must have lived like anaimals! Also, Carol seems to use the exclamation point way too excessively in her writing! If you are not retired and are somewhat of a young age please avoid this book. I did give it one star because if you have a good sense of humour you might enjoy her little stories!
For me, more of a 3 1/2 star book but since halves are not an option, 4 stars........2007-10-03
The first chapters of this book provide excellent guidance for planning a one-year trip away from home. The authors guide you through the entire process of planning and preparation. Definitely four star information. The authors purchased a small RV, set up their budget, rented out their house and got ready to go. This book shares what worked for them and walks you through all the necessary steps that need to be accomplished prior to your departure including a planned/actual budget and a more frugal version. Both budgets seemed high to me, but if the trip were made today, both might be a real bargin.
The second portion of the book, a journal of their year on the road, seemed sketchy and a bit disjointed. There isn't a lot of information on any of the areas visited, so not as useful as it might of been for some actual travel planning. They spent so many nights at hotels that I'm not sure the motor home was a good investment, but the authors thought it was.
If you are considering traveling away from home for an extended period of time, you will find this book a helpful addition to your library along with one or two good travel guides. If, however, you are more interested in reading about traveling the USA in a small RV, Barbara Thacker's books, while older, are fun armchair travel reading along with Ron and Barb Hofmeister's books on full timing in a much larger RV.
Entertaining and loaded with great info.......2007-08-26
This is a very entertaining book loaded with great information about extended traveling. Be it just a few weeks or a year or more, the authors have dispensed great ideas on how to handle the everyday life you leave behind (for whatever period of time).
I finished the book in about a week, reading it for it's entertainment value. I will be retiring soon and my wife and I plan on taking extended "vacations" in our RV. I will read the book again (and again) so I can garner as much information as I can.
listen to the voices of first-hand experience.......2007-07-19
Phil and Carol White amply demonstrate that anyone can live "a road trip dream" as they thoughtfully share their proven insider tips for enjoyable RV travels. Interesting to discover, according to the authors, that a big mistake first-timers make is overplanning. Read this book and "just do it!"
I'd like to start with $80,000 a year too! .......2007-03-09
My family and I are preparing to spend a year full-timing in our 5th wheel camper and thought this book would be helpful in some regards to that. Unfortunately, there were no real bits of information for us to use in planning for our trip. Actually, there was not much at all that was helpful for our purposes.

AMAZING SERIES!! IS A MUST READ!.......2006-06-24
I got the entire series this past Christmas. I had read the first 2 because although my library had more, they didn't have all of them, and they didn't have the 3rd and I don't like to read things out of order so I was really sad. So then I was soo happy to find out they were being republished by Image Cascading!!!
So yea I read them all and they all rock!!! It's nice seeing what teenagers did back in the 50's. And it was also nice how different people's relationships were with their family's, I wish it were more like that today. And they are also way more responsible and mature then we are now. Making their own money, not having to depend on their parents for everything. And their parents respect and trust them more too! And they definatly treat their parents with much respect which is ALOT more then I can say about kids of today.
The first book is about Beany's older sister, Mary Fred. It is in MF's junior year of highschool, when Beany is in 8th grade. The rest of the books are all about Beany, in highschool, college, and then when she gets married. And let me just say I LOVE who she ends up with. They are SOOO cute!!!
Everyone should read these books they are amazing and are definatly one of my favorite books ever!
Book Description
For car and motorcycle enthusiasts there is scarcely a more sacred space than the garage. This is where it all happens: the restoring of relics and resurrecting of wrecks, the polishing up of tall tales and tail fins, and friendships formed over a shared passion for automotive speed and style. Dream Garages takes the reader into over 20 of these havens for the motor-mad. Some are beautifully conceived automotive shrines, some are grease-monkey heavens, and others are accidental creations. Dream Garages offers a profile of each garage and its owner, along with fabulous images from top automotive photographers including Peter Vincent, Robert Genat, David Newhardt, James Mann, and David Gooley.
Customer Reviews:
My husband loved this book!.......2007-01-11
My husband is building a detached shop, so I got him this book for Christmas. He absolutely loved it. The cars in the book are as great as the garages. I hope I didn't give him too many ideas for his own shop!
Excellent Book!!!.......2007-01-04
I received this book for Christmas and was just purchasing one for a friend. Kris Palmer strikes me as a guy that would abandon a comfy couch in front of a fire to bang his knuckles on rusty bolts in a cold garage.... just because. As the front lapel indicates, this book is a perfect fit for guys that are drawn to tinker in their garages because it's a book about "us". My garage itself might not be worthy of a cover shot, but what happens in it is no different than is described in each chapter of Dream Garages. Mr Palmer's book is a wonderful insight into how other enthusiasts have grown in their own garage, turning dreams into reality. I really enjoyed reading about the fruits of their love, it's not about the vehicle they're working on or where they hang their tools, it's about the passion we share to shape our projects within the walls known as the garage. Nice job Mr Palmer!
dream garages and their cars!.......2007-01-02
I like this book. It is not intended to be a "how to" for designing a garage. That subject has been well covered by other titles. This is about great cars and the people who own/collect them. I find its interesting to learn how serious car people get the bug and rearrange their lives to accommodate their passion for cars. This book spans a broad array of car people - from methodical collectors with expansive storage facilities, to the gear nuts whose space reflects their own personalities. Where else are you going to see a collection of every year Ford and Mercury woody produced up to the early fifties?
Not nearly as good as "Ultimate Garages".......2006-12-30
Dream Garages is disappointing. The book does not really focus on garages (like Ultimate Garages by Phil Berg), but has stories around somewhat interesting car people, with their garage only as an afterthought. I have all the garage-type books, and this one is my least favorite.
Book Description
By car, mini-van, pickup and motorcycle, members of a family take beautiful, nostalgic country roads to a family reunion. Up, down and around the hills of West Virginia, they all head for a hoedown, hayride, and good food at Grandma and Grandpa's place in the country! Illustrator Christopher Canyon brilliantly adapts John Denver's famous song for children of all ages. It's all about country, it's all about music, and it's all about family. (The hardback edition comes with a CD of John Denver singing Take Me Home, Country Roads! This is the third title in Dawn Publications' John Denver & Kids Book Series.)
Customer Reviews:
Great for all ages..........2007-08-15
My son received this book as a gift for his first birthday. He loves it (and he has no clue who John Denver is)! We've read/sang it a hundred + times. He loves looking at the illustrations, as do I. My husband & I graduated from WVU, so this song is near & dear to our hearts. We hope to make a little Mountaineer out of our son too....this is a good start.
Another great John Denver/Christopher Canyon work!.......2007-06-26
A great song with amazing illustrations. All the pictures look like quilt pieces. This song is timeless and kids love it. I've got kindergarteners who can belt this out and they never get tired of reading/singing it over and over. Very well done. Can't wait for more John Denver songs to come out.
AWESOME!.......2007-05-25
John Denver's music paints a beautiful picture in your mind, but this book brings it to life even more! Book is very animated---almost seems like the pictures move as the vehicles go up and down the rolling hill. Great quilted-look art that covers almost every space in this book. LOTS of things going on (you could look at this book all day long and still find something new the next day) Well worth the money!!! Get is for all your John Denver fans :)
It took me home.......2006-11-03
I thought the book was adorable and will preserve John Denver's song for future generations. I have introduced his music to my young nieces and nephews. They know who he is now just by the sound of his music. Thanks for the latest addition to my library and the John Denver childrens collection.
Great book for Mountaineer Fans!.......2006-11-02
We have 3 preschool children and they love it. We share the book with their preschool class on game days and the kids have so much fun singing and dancing! Go...Mountaineers. Sunshine on my shoulders is a great book/cd too.
Book Description
The bleak wilderness of America's 49th state challenges three women in different eras: Julie, a nurse, who must serve victims of a 1925 diphtheria epidemic; Beth, whose Canadian-born husband is killed in World War II; and Rita, who takes on the ultimate test of endurance, the Iditarod dog sled race. Each must surmount the obstacles of her life, and perhaps, with God's help, find true love as well. As a special bonus, 'Alaska' also includes Tracie Peterson's novella 'Christmas Dream.'
Customer Reviews:
Too much of the happy, sappy, goody-goody to be realistic........2007-08-31
I picked this book up because I'm going to Alaska and wanted to get myself excited for the trip; unfortunately, this book really didn't help much. Although it did get into the Iditarod, dog sledding, and blizzards, it really did not cover the culture of living in Alaska like I thought it would--and let's not even talk about the characters. As a Christian woman, some parts of the book (such as Rita Eriksson's fight to be independent of God) were definitely realistic; however, in the end it seemed as if every single character, even the less important ones, were model Christian citizens, and because of that these stories lost much of their [realistic] appeal.
A Magnificent Tale.......2002-11-15
I found this collection of novelas to be magnificent. I didn't want to put it down. At one point I acutally cried. The characters become so real to you that you are moved with their pain and elated in their victories. I also found them spiritually uplifting. Now I just wish I could go see the places that were so wonderfully discribed.
Alaska.......2001-01-19
I do not read alot but I could not put this book down. I live in Alaska and have been in the same place as the charcter in the book. I liked the spiritual content too. Differently better than the trashy love novels you can buy.
IDENTIFY WITH THE CHARACTERS.......2000-03-14
I liked the second story the best, because it really made me ask myself "What would I have done if I were in her situation? Would I have put God first? Would I have denied myself a strong opportunity like that because God said NO?" But I liked all four of them. They were realistic romance but not mushy or improper. A MUST-READ...YOU WON'T FORGET THIS BOOK AND (HOPEFULLY) THE LESSONS YOU LEARNED THROUGH PRACTICAL EXAMPLES OF SUBMISSION TO GOD.
Good Book.......1999-12-02
This book seems to have all the love that the author has known in her heart. ..I really liked it and it made me think of my own life and loves. If you want to read a book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift! This book was edited by Lupus specialist Dr. Matt Morrow too, and has the latest information on that disease. ..A perfect gift for someone who started college late in life, fell in love too late in life, is living with any illness, or trying to understand a loved one who is. . .A gift to be cherished forever.

Customer Reviews:
"Failure" now reviewed in MBA class.......2007-01-03
We read the book as part of a business strategy class in my MBA program.
The book is very insightful. Besides the fact, that the venture ultimately went belly-up, Hanlon describes his methodology for raising capital. He raised +$90 million over 7 years - a significant achievement, considering that he did not have huge investors right away, but focused on "grass-roots" fund raising.
I was impressed and took many lessons learned away from his approach.
He details his milestone fund raising and the principles he founded the company on. The book furthermore is an application guide on how to identify your target customers and on how to market towards them, so that they will not only buy your product, but also help you finance the venture that designs and manufactures the product - quite impressive and an absolutely novel approach.
Before you pass judgement, based on what you have read in the press, I recommend highly to read Dan Hanlon's account of the dream he lived and embarked on realizing. If you still think Hanlon was full of it, well that is an opinion, too, but at least you have exposed yourself to both sides.
Pro Editor required.......2004-02-03
Not sure of the complete story of what happened with EH, I was curious to learn more. The history of the start up venture was interesting as were stories from Sturgis. Even the section of the "gearhead" related topics weren't too hard to follow, as I was afraid I'd be confused. But overall, I don't really understand what happened except that the financing options ran out. But why? That area is foggy and seemed condensed in the later chapters. It makes you wonder what the 2nd side of the story is. I think some professional editing would've helped in the story, as well. The writing was obviously as Dan Hanlon would speak aloud. But that tone gets tiresome and he sometimes gets off on tangets. Perhaps the book wouldn't have been as long either.
Enlightening and Educational.......2003-12-19
Some of the best books ever, are the ones that friends give me. Of course, it helps to have smart friends! My brother bought an Excelsior-Henderson motorcycle. He loves it. Convincing my other brother to buy all three of us Dan Hanlon's book.
It is first of all, a great recap of the seven plus years of E-H's struggle from the man at the helm. But is really is a great business "how to" or perhaps "how not to" launch a capital intensive manufacturing business. The tales of fund raising are not for the faint of heart.
Serious about a startup business? Read this book first. It is so fast paced, that I was able to read the whole 401 pages in just two sessions. Some great photos included, as well as some corporate documents like the list of E-H dealers.
Even if you are not going for a capital intensive venture, it will still help. The passages on corporate culture were great. And the interaction with Wall Street was fun reading. Oh yea, everyone that knows anything about E-H has second guessed Hanlon. He convinced me that every single criticism was for the most part, untrue. One example is the building. It just "looks" expensive. The true costs were amazingly low.
If you are serious about business and enjoy motorcycles [riding or watching them ride down the street], this is a must have. One of my top twenty picks.

Customer Reviews:
Nice illustrations, but factually incorrect.......2006-01-18
The author needs to fact check before publishing. Gujarati is not the major language of the people who live in Mumbai. It is Marathi.
This carelessness mars the otherwise nice illustrations in this book.
Wonderfully written, colorfully illustrated.......2005-08-24
The Road to Mumbai is a wonderfully written, colorfully illustrated children's book, which adults can enjoy too.
It is a cute and humorous tale of a little girl named Shoba and her monkey, Fuzzy Patel (insert smiles here) and their journey to Mumbai, via her bed and various other modes of transportation along the way. The story and pictures capture the essence of the people and animals they meet on the road to Fuzzy's cousin's wedding.
Ms. Jeyaveeran has accomplished much in her first book. I look forward to her next one.
Wonderful!!.......2005-03-12
This is a delightful little romp for the younger than Harry Potter set, but it will also cheer grown-ups seeking refuge from the white-bread po-faced world.
It's wonderful when story-telling ability and drawing ability are present in the same author; Jeyaveeran has spades of talent.
Libraries and parents (and probably a few Wall Street investors in need of lightening up) should buy this book, and Ruth Jeyaveeran should get to work on a sequel!
Call it the adventurous road to Mumbai.......2005-02-08
Little Shoba is on her way to a wedding in Mumbai but will she ever get there? With her pet monkey Fuzzy Patel, she sets out on her journey and discovers one interesting thing after another. A camel ride, a line of elephants, an over-crowded bus, laddos, jalebees will all help bring India to little book lovers. The illustrations are very colorful and add to the overall effect of the book.
a lot of fun.......2004-11-22
My sister gave my 4 year old (and 9 mos old) this book. My 4 year old loves it and we have talked about the book alot. I like the illustrations as well. Recommended.

Wonderful poems!.......2003-11-03
A hardcover book with terrific drwings and wonderful short poems. Here is the intro to the book:
"Sleep magic is one of the gentler arts practiced by American Indian poets and song makers. Special combinations of words, called charms, are calculated to make people drowsy. Sleep songs, special words set to music, are meant to have the same effect, usually upon the very young and usually at nightfall. Native American traditionalists know that night is a time for healing, a time when plants grow, and a time for creative awakening - all of which may take place during sleep. Each of the night poems and sleep charms in this book has a definite purpose: to soothe, to heal, to bring dreams, or especially, to make sleep irresistable."
The poems are all short, 3-5 lines each. Here's one called Gray Mouse:
Gray mouse came at nightfall,
Gray mouse came at nightfall,
Came running in the darkness,
Came breathing in the darkness.
I just love this book! The poems are so simple, like haiku, yet the conjur up neat images. Some are funny images too. All have nature as their theme, all are soothing and comforing. There are poems (like Gray mouse), sleep charms/songs, and night prayers. Simply beautiful.

Good perspective on budget travel.......2001-10-30
A very enjoyable book. Not so deep & philosophical like a Bruce Chatwin or Peter Matthiessen travel journal, but it is much more approachable and readable. He writes the real story about travel - the hassles and hardships you endure to see and experience people and places that forever change the person you are. It inspires us to travel on a budget without trivializing the sheer time and labor involved.
Written in a simple, readable style, it is a page turner for sure.
this book is great.......2001-08-03
If you're interested in traveling the world, this is the way to do it. This book was inspirational and tremendous.
The road of the disjointed.......2001-05-23
This book started off with great Promise, of an adventure. However, the writer was all over the map, Figuratively, and did not seem to be able to flesh anything thing in detail. A mish mash of ideas and things thrown together for a book. Yes there was adventure there, He maybe should have hired a ghost writer instead of spending five years for this effort, I think money would have well spent if he had done this. I am sure that the slide show is much better.
YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! BEYOND WORDS!.......1999-08-04
Bruce & Tass (authors) tell their cycling story in such a way that can only inspire the spirit of travel in each of us! We all dream to experience the world: the authors allow us to travel with them on their bicycles...13 miles/hour...1 new culture a day. Through this narrative and collection of photos we are able to see literaturaly the world thru their legs & eyes...and dream of the day we too can slowly traverse the thousands of miles that we pretend to be obsticles in the pursuit of that dream.
i am currently tour-cycling across the united states. started in neah bay, wa and going first to wash. d.c. then to nova scotia, canada...only to bike back to my native minnesota thru canada. 7000 miles in 5 months. have fealt so much of their experience. appreciate their allowing me to follow them along their personal journey into their hearts and around the globe. this book is such a great companion and model for what my trip has been and will be with every mile. thank you!
One of the best biking and hiking sagas!.......1999-04-24
Bruce Junek writes well, and Tass Thacker's photographs are excellent. They give you a good idea of the people and places they visit. They are also very kind and likable people.
Whether they are trekking, biking, meeting the locals, learning the languages, eating the local food (occasionally becoming ill!), you really like these two people. This cannot always be said of other adventurous types who might seem self-centered or petulant. And while not many will want to duplicate their entire trip, there are parts of it that could be easily copied (e.g., Nepal, New Zealand and Australia).
Wish they'd had even more time to explore and write about their adventures.

Quickest way to Ho'Oponopono Living.......2007-10-03
I had read Dr. Hew Len/Vitale book and found this to be the quickest way to start living the Ho'Ponopono way.
The Easiest Way.......2007-09-26
I have enjoyed reading The Easiest Way immensely. Even though most of what is in the book is not new news to me, the way Mabel conveys the message is so simple and you can feel her loving energy by reading through the pages. I have read it more than once and I pick-up something different every time. Applying Ho'oponopono to my life, has been a blessing and I feel I have been guided to the real secret.
A simple method for healing.......2007-08-03
Mabel Katz is a truly beautiful and compassionate person. Her book introduces us to an old Hawaiian way of healing which is so apropos today. The amazing thing is that this method of healing is so simple and it works. Imagine what a world this would be if more people did their cleansing. Mabel's book is invaluable.
The Easiest Way - each page filled with love.......2007-07-31
I read this book for the first time in Hawaii in May. Now I read a few pages each night before I go to sleep. I also read a chapter each day with my meditation partner before we meditate. This simple book was written from the heart - from Mabel's direct experience - and grows deeper with each reading. It is a gift. Thank you, Mabel
This book delivers!.......2007-07-31
The title of Mabel's book on Ho'oponopono says it all: "The Easiest Way: Solve Your Problems and Take the Road to Love, Happiness, Wealth and the Life of your Dreams"
This book delivers what the title says! I first read this book a year and a half ago and was so turned on by it's message and the results I experienced I read it everyday and still read it often. I can truly say that the results that I have experienced have far exceeded my fondest dreams and desires. I recently read Dr. Joe Vitale's new book Zero Limits, which is also about Ho'oponopono and recommend it also as a companion and supplement to "The Easiest Way". Thank you Mabel and Joe for helping me turn my life around. I love you both! - Jimmy
