Love It!.......2007-08-31
This is the first book I have read by Karen Kinsbury and I love it. I found it difficult to put the book down. Its a love story that will make you cry.
A Tear Jerker that's worth reading........2007-08-06
This book, a sequel to Even Now, caused me to shed more tears than when I first read Black Beauty as a child. Yet, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an excellently written love story. It is a little slower than some of Kingsbury's other books, but it was definitely worth the read. I appreciate how the book illustrates the fact that most of our news reporters never show the good side of our troops' presence in Iraq. I feel the characters are realistic, and the story believable. Keep your tissues handy, you'll need them.
Unbelievable.......2007-07-21
Ever After by Karen Kingsbury is mainly a book of supporting the war and its servicemen. I completely support the war and agree totally with Karen's arguments, but I've heard them all before so it left me looking for how good the story was. The relationship between Justin and Emily was just too perfect that you couldn't identify with them. Justin is too perfect in all aspects that you couldn't connect with his character. Emily seemed more believable because you saw the determined way about her when she found her parents in Even Now. Also, it left you thinking they are perfect for each other, but when Justin dies all that love between each other seems wasted. Although Karen tries to make it a point that his death caused Joe (his best army buddy) to find Emily and become closer than friends. Well if Emily and Joe were meant for each other, than why'd Emily have to spoil her purity by kissing Justin earlier?
When Emily and Joe become close friends it all happens too predictable and quickly after Justin's death, even though it says 18 months later it really takes only five pages. Although I have to say at least Joe is a little easier to identify with because you saw his weaknesses, his emotional side.
Lauren's conversion to a right state of mind is about the only thing I liked about this book, besides the support for the troops. Though through the whole book you question why Shane still loves her when she can be such an annoying person.
The teen center is very unbelievable because the teenagers there can act like 16 or 10. Their attitude changes from completely emotional to acting like a tough-guy. Karen didn't show how much an impact Justin did on them when he was alive so it was hard to believe they would cry over his death. Plus, why would a nineteen year-old (Emily) spend time with teenagers maybe one or two years younger when they're depicted as near gansters? They call her "pretty mama" or "hot mama", I would most likely stay clear of them.
Though I have to say, I'm glad someone stepped up to support the war and its servicemen when there are so many who are blindly disagreeing.
5-star story.......2007-07-15
The novel raises important questions about both sides of the war issue, and gives thoughtful and thought-provoking responses to each side. It helped me to try to approach people with opposing views more considerately and lovingly. I believe reading this book would build bridges of understanding, no matter what one's opinion of war might be.

A Warm and tender story........2007-10-04
I'm new to Karen Kingsbury and a friend gave this book to read. She thought that it was a wonderful story. Well, I have to agree with her, the book was terrific. Once I started reading the book I had a hard time putting it down. The author's style of writing is warm and heartfelt and I can hardly wait to read another book by this author. So long.
Predictable.......2007-08-18
Most of the Christian novels I've read are syrupy and unrealistic, so I began reading this book with few expectations. This book wasn't as sugary as some, but it didn't ring true. The story itself was fairly engaging, though the descriptions were tiresome and the love story somewhat implausible. I was interested enough to finish the book, though the first half was better than the second. A couple things particularly bothered me. First, an 18 year old girl, Emily, is on a search for her parents. After a few tries, she Googles the correct names and finds both of them in a short period of time. Not bad, except that her grandparents had been searching for them for 20 years, with invetigative help, and hadn't been able to locate them. Please! Secondly, the mother, Laruen Gibbs, is a journalist with Time magzine and located in Afghanistan. The descriptions of that country and what Lauren wears and does prove that Ms Kingsbury didn't research her topic. I won't list the problems, but there were several. I've not read any of Karen Kingsbury's books before. This willingness of hers to write on a topic that she doesn't really know about is enough to make me not want to read any others. I gave this book two stars because I think pre-teen or teen girls would enjoy it.
Even Now AND Ever After.......2007-08-09
Absolutely excellent books!!! I had never heard of Karen Kingsbury until my daughter saw the books about 9/11 and knew I would want to read them. Since reading all of them, I am a big fan of Karen Kingsbury and have bought quite a few of her books. However the two books, Ever After and Even Now are by far the best I have read so far. So many mixed emotions and inspirational thoughts. I loved them and will continue to buy this author's books. She has really touched my life.
Maybe if I was 17..........2007-05-26
This book would be a great option for a teenager, with its tale of forgiveness and its clean nature. I, however, am not a teenager. I read this book because it was suggested to me. I of course wish that real people were like the characters in this book--loving and forgiving and all that comes with those things--but they aren't, so this novel just reeks of fiction. Not for one moment can you believe in the characters or their story. Beyond that, I felt that Ms. Kingsbury tried to draw in too many political issues, whether to press her own views or just for filler information, but regardless of the reason, it was nothing short of annoying.
As I said, if you're a parent or a teenager, there might be something in this book for you, but it all felt just a little bit messy to me.
LOVED IT!!.......2007-05-14
I loved this book! It is one of my new favorites. It came fast and in great condition!

Looks good, but not for me. .......2004-09-30
I was looking for a program that requires only dumb-bells, but this one uses dumb-bells, bar-bells, a few kinds of benches, and other equipment. Since I don't have a home gym or access to a commercial gym, this book has not been useful for me. But it looks very good for someone who has the proper equipment and wants to use very heavy weights.
One of my faves in the sea of strength training referenences.......2000-11-02
Also one of the first book I added to my now extensive collection of strength training/ body-building/ weight lifting/ fitness references. She is a very inspiring author and the before and after photos (especially of herself) are worth a thousand words. I have changed my weight lifting routine countless times over the past 14 years and this routine is by far the one I use most. It gives proven results and keeps me from "plateauing".
I believe those who would enjoy it most are those who are ready for training that packs a wallop! I thought I was fairly strong (for a middle-aged female) before I started on this weight training program. I was surprised at the increase in strength this program gave me. I now use fairly heavy weights (no I can't quite bench press my weight...YET!), but it keeps the compliments coming. What a great feeling to have total strangers comment on your great (and still feminine) muscles and ask you WHERE you work out (not DO you work out?)! This book really kicks up muscle tone and strength by leaps and bounds! You just need to make the time commitment to do this for yourself.
If you would rather not work with somewhat heavier weights, Joyce Vedral's "Bottom's Up" and "Definition" books would be a better bet.
Thanks Dr. V!.......2000-08-03
I recently started weightlifing as my primary sport. In the past, I had only strength trained as part of a conditioning regimen for other sports (basketball, rowing, volleyball). At age 35, I decided to start working out again, with the focus on my shape and muscle size and tone. Of all the books I looked at to start my workout regime with, I chose this one. Dr. Vedral covers all of the angles -- diet, motivation, what exercises to do, how to do them (with pictures!), how to do them at home or at the gym, how often to do them, and when to fit in your cardio workouts. It is clear that she knows her stuff, and from her photos, it works. I also have Dr. Vedral's 12-minute workout, which I had pretty good results with. My goal - to look as good as Dr. Vedral! (I have a ways to go....)
Excellent.......1999-02-17
I've read various books on weight training and this one is by far the best. It is easy to follow and understand and it works!
It works! But you have to have MOTIVATION!!!.......1997-08-25
Joyce's program works because I've been doing it. Make sure you do exactly how she has it laid out. The only thing you really need to have to do the program is MOTIVATION. Without the motivation, you won't get any results. If you've dreamed about being trim, toned, and looking great, this is the program for you. You will not be disappointed

Save Your Hearing Now: What Every Boomer Needs.......2006-12-03
Because my hearing is somewhat impaired, I eagerly read "Save Your Hearing Now: The Revolutionary Program That Can Prevent and May Even Reverse Hearing Loss" by Michael D. Seidman, M.D. and Marie Moneysmith.
Nearly half of 76 million baby boomers say they are dealing with some degree of hearing loss. That's a 238 percent increase since 1990 when hearing problems affected only 20 percent of this group.
That means that if you are at midlife or even younger, you need to read "Save Your Hearing Now."
This unique book is more than just about how to save your hearing. It is a comprehensive total health "how to." Everything you need to know to protect your health and hearing, from exercise to diet -- what's new, what works, how to do it, where to get it - it's is all there.
The amount of research that went into this work to give the reader the absolute best information and help is outstanding. It's a meticulous blueprint for achieving a better quality of life.
Unlike other books on hearing loss that I have read, the authors provide a detailed one-of-a kind action program that will help you achieve a level of overall vibrant good health and hearing you might not think possible. The program is a systematic, easy to follow, step-by-step plan that makes it possible to successfully protect and improve health and hearing. If you now have hearing loss, you can learn how it may be possible to reverse it. The authors explain how others have done it.
Because diet is key to health, and certain dietary supplements play a pivotal role in maintaining and repairing health and hearing, the authors tell not only what to take, but why you should take it and how much to take. This is critically important. Advice to take supplements is useless unless you are told how much to take and why.
I am particularly impressed that the authors stress the importance and role of potent antioxidants in preventing hearing loss, particularly alpha lipoic acid and acetyl l-carnitine. Other major supplements scientifically shown to support good health and hearing are covered in detail.
You won't be confused or overwhelmed with scientific jargon because there isn't any. Even if you know nothing about supplements, presentation of information is so clear and "user friendly" that you will "get it."
The quality of resource material and supporting documentation reveals the ultimate usefulness and credibility of any health book. "Save Your Hearing Now" provides many excellent resources with phone numbers, names and addresses for readers to use for additional help and guidance. As a pharmacist, I particularly appreciate the extensive documentation that supports the authors' findings and recommendations.
Suggestion: If a midlife or younger friend has a birthday coming up, this is the most loving and life changing gift you can give.
A Must for Every Library.......2006-08-01

Great!.......2003-12-14
A wonderful, wonderful book! I bought it used (and what a bargain!). I love the main character. Her experience touches so many chords in me. If you are the contemplative sort who has always spent a lot of time thinking about her relationships, this book will speak to you. It's like I've found my good angel, and her name is Michelle Latiolais.
A brilliant jewel of a book.......2003-05-06
I'm positive Michelle Latiolais' EVEN NOW will--as another reader put it--become a small classic one day. Savor this book. The language is amazing. And the story is deep and heartfelt. It's so absorbing you fall into and then realize what a truly unique experience you're having. I loved it...
A Great book -- winner of Commonwealth Gold Prize in Literat.......2000-01-04
I just finished reading EVEN NOW, the first novel by Michelle Latiolais. It is the female, comtempory version of CATCHER IN THE RYE in its beautiful prose and heartfelt emotions that it conjures up for its young heroine. It is a great book, overlooked for now but destined one day to be a small classic. Highly reccommended. It won the coveted Californioa Commonwealth Award -- 1st prize the gold award -- and it richly deserved it. It was edited by the legendary Jonathan Glassi (Scott Turow's editor, etc.)

An historic meeting with this leading new voice in contemporary spirituality
When Eckhart Tolle agreed to be interviewed on September 11, 2001, he could not foresee the historic nature of this date or the suffering that would follow. As the day's events unfolded, in real time, he responded with a calm and clear voice, helping to make sense out of the fear and chaos that will forever define this date. "Even the Sun Will Die" documents this historic meeting with Eckhart Tolle and the comforting wisdom he revealed that day.
We live in a time, he says, when we define ourselves through our enemies; and science and technology are in the service of human madness. Yet even in the face of disaster, a miracle happens when we say "yes" to living in this moment and no other. This "great opening," he teaches, can serve as nothing less than the beginning of a revolution in human consciousness with the potential to transform our world and everyone in it. Also for the first time on audio, Eckhart Tolle comments on his own awakening, and what he sees as the next step in human evolution. From insights into the way out of suffering, to evidence that a new consciousness is already rising, "Even the Sun Will Die" confirms Eckhart Tolle's place among the most important and accessible spiritual teachers of our time.

A highly evolved being speaking to you..........2005-09-20
This is indeed a highly evolved being speaking to you.. Don't listen with your mind...beyond the words there is peace...It's a very simple message, but deeply effective only when you LISTEN.
Don't be put off by the laughter or the silence. Mr Tolle is talking beyond the words, behind the meanings. The mind wants to label everything and put it into boxes...ie..good/bad, right/wrong...this/that and it's not the true self.
Be there and experience what he is saying...We know the truth anyway in our beings. There is NO ego beyond the mind, or judgement, so any negative view points of this CD, are coming FROM THE MIND!!
One day we will all be enlightened, and there will be no more darkness!
The best of what Eckhart Tolle has to say.......2005-03-19
The first time I listened to these tapes, they had a profound effect on me. It seems to me that on listening to E.T. I had a foretaste of the stillness he is speaking about several times. This is the reason why, although I now consider E.T. a third class advaita teacher, I am still willing to recommend this interview to people here on Amazon.com.
The first part of the interview, which was recorded on September 11 is about the tragedy itself and the meaning of human suffering, the nature of enlightenment, the search for truth and self-knowledge. E.T. says here a number of things which are quite profound and true. The second tape, which was recorded several weeks later, is about E.T. himself, how he became awakened and how he now lives (his mind activity has been reduced by 80%). He also speaks of the wave of enlightenment today, of the uncertain future of the planet and of past masters, whom he beautifully calls "early flowers".
Although I can think of lots of much more interesting questions to ask an enlightened person than "are you a mutant?", the interviewer does a good job in the sense that she remains unobstrusive during the whole conversation, which is in fact a kind of monologue.
So this is definitely an interesting work. The quality of the sound is impeccable and there are no noisy and disturbing outbursts of laughter from the audience as in "Realizing the Power of Now". Hence maybe its quite hypnotic effect.
Having said that, I have become quite dissatisfied with the teachings of E.T., specially as they are set forth in the books and in "Realizing the Power of Now" and therefore recommend that you also buy "As It Is" by Tony Parsons in order to compare what these two supposedly awakened human beings have to say. I think that Tony's message is simpler and less misleading than that of Eckhart, who insists on having you practice awareness and other dualistic stuff one finds in religious traditions.
Nevertheless, as far as pure non dualism is concerned, "Even The Sun Will Die" is by and large free of the cheap traditional teachings found in Tolle's other "productions". This is why I still recommend it to you.
Bon voyage!
Brilliant and confusing in parts.......2005-03-15
I have read and worked with several of Tolle's tapes and found them to be very useful, from a spiritual/meditative standpoint. I find his insights here too to be similar, gets right to the core of the problem of the mind identified society, the confusions we go through as people in navigating this conditioning towards the 'oneness' and such. I find it hard though, to give in to it completely, by it i don't mean the teachings, i mean to Tolle's mindset as it comes through on this particular tape. Yes you can understand where he is coming from, a certain place that is somewhat removed from conditioned responses and perhaps a genuine empathy for what the world and country went through during 9/11. But is it ok to laugh, kindly as it might seem to be? Is it ok to just remove oneself from the pain and talk about what is causing it, almost like a clinical, prescriptive fashion? From a layman perspective those things come across like spiritual arrogance, more than anything else. There is a saying in the Bhagavad Gita that God knows the reasoning behind all things, and yet cries for/with suffering humanity. Sometimes am not sure if Tolle is really reasoning or crying with us, or both.
Incredibly interesting insights.......2004-11-19
Eckhart gives advice on how to live without struggle. Remember, there are many pointers out there, in fact, they are everywhere.
Outstanding in every way.......2003-12-20
I've listened dozens of times and each time learn something in a deeper way. The fundamental teaching is of course the same as The Power of Now, yet without as much intellectual explanation, but potentially with more depth if the listener is open. At the risk of being judgmental, I'm afraid those who have berated these CD's with one star ratings just have not yet "got it" and I urge them not to give up!

Perfect for a Beginner.......2006-05-24
I'm a new Christian and have been searching for resources to help determine where to go now. Just as the title says, this study helps you to find answers to questions that you didn't even know to ask. The book is made up of thirteen lessons about beginning your new life as a Christian. The author received Christ as an adult and writes from that perspective, which I found to be very helpful. I highly recommend this for new Christians who are trying to figure out where to go after accepting Christ.
