    This 13 week, interactive study looks at issues many women face today and reminds them of their inherent value as daughters of the one true King.

    Mordecai's challenge to Esther, "Were you not born for such a time as this?" is repeated for all women throughout the ages, says Diana Hagee. Every woman has a divine destiny. But women cannot fulfill that goal unless they understand His biblical guidelines.

    In this interactive workbook, Diana leads women through a self-examination of their lives and their goals from God's perspective, not the secular society's. Topics such as self-esteem, diligence, attitude, goal setting and stewardship encourage women to establish a strong foundation for growth while learning to see themselves in a new light.

    Through scripture, thought-provoking questions and answers, prayers, practical advice and devotional ideas, women learn how valuable they are to God and how they can have an intimate relationship with Him while evaluating the standards that make them a daughter of the King.

    5 out of 5 stars A blueprint for becoming a godly woman!.......2003-11-28

    This book had a profound impact on my life. I was raised in a dysfunctional, ungodly home and didn't become a Christian until age 19, after making many bad choices. I've not had many female role models in my life but after reading this book I feel that I can consider Diana Hagee to be one. Through this book Mrs. Hagee basically takes you by the hand and shows you what it means to be a woman of God. The chapters are as follows:
    1) The King's Daughter;
    2) My Value in God's Eyes;
    3) I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel;
    4) The Holy Spirit and Me;
    5) Dreams with a Happy Ending: Setting Goals;
    6) Ten Commandments for Women in the Workplace;
    7) Women and Courtship;
    8) And God Said, "Let There Be Sex";
    9) Ten Questions You're Afraid to Ask Your Gynecologist;
    10) The Favor of God;
    11) Hospitality--An Attitude of the Heart;
    12) Beauty

    Please don't look at the title or the chapters and think for a moment that this book holds nothing useful for you. You will not be sorry if you read it and apply its principles. Each chapter concludes with "Action Points", which are questions for you to answer based on the chapter, a short reading assignment from the book of Esther, and a prayer.

    Book Description

    Sons of God - Daughters of Men is a history book written for a general audience. It inherits it's title from the peculiar introduction to the story of Noah's flood, in the 6th chapter of the biblical Genesis, where the "sons of God" saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and took them as wives. There, they are described as "heroes of old" and "men of renown", supposedly at a time when mankind was just created, eight generations before Noah.

    This rather eerie reference to seemingly divine men has been, for myself, a continuous source of curiosity. If they were so famous, why then are there no other writings of their acts and deeds? And why were their offspring and descendents referred to as giants? Never having obtained a plausible answer from anyone, I contend that something significant happened a very long time ago. And whatever happened was hidden or lost during subsequent generations. The intriguing part is that traces of their existence made their way into the most popular book in the history of civilization.

    Sons of God - Daughters of Men is about history and not theology, although it is difficult not to mention and discuss various theological ideas and trends. It is about setting aside any preconceived ideas and doctrinal notions, recovering the prehistory from the earliest chapters of Genesis, and placing them in their proper context. This book's intent is to reveal the historical facts behind the stories.

    There is abundant archeological evidence concerning the prehistory of man. And, although its interpretations are often debated among the scientists themselves, their factual basis is irrefutable. If the Bible, in general, is historically accurate, then it's earliest stories must agree with the archeological and other historical sources. Human events in ancient history did not occur in a vacuum and therefore, are not without an historical context. Sons of God - Daughters of Men hunts through the pages of history in search of facts, in an attempt to establish Genesis as a far more believable and literal text than anyone's wildest dreams.

    Our search begins in 19th century America when settlers moving into the Ohio River Valley unearthed the remains of a forgotten civilization, a society where giants lived among men, and a culture that encompassed the vast, eastern territories of North America. For their posterity, numerous county histories and eventually the United States Geological Survey documented the events of this almost forgotten chapter in U.S. history.

    We follow the historical evidence of giants back to ancient Israel and the legendary King David, to Joshua and the conquest of Canaan, then to Abraham and his flight from the Sumerian City of Ur; and finally to Noah, his great-grandfather, Enoch, and the antediluvian world of Genesis where a clash of cultures sparked the most famous fable of all. With scientific and historical evidence cast in complementary light we can see fact in myth, and reveal the truth behind Adam, Eve and the serpent in the Garden of Eden. We also discover the culture of long forgotten people, the true progenitors of civilization whose origins reach back 40,000 years.

    Human culture has had a long history of conflict and order. Those who succeed tell their story, almost always as the only story. It is cliché, but true, history is written by the victor. Nations, societies, movements, and ideas that failed somewhere along the way are often depicted as inhuman or evil and in most cases were probably neither. Their vain struggle offers valuable insight into our past and own way of thinking. To truly understand the triumphant we must also understand the defeated.

    Sons of God - Daughters of Men does not find its answers in angels, demons or extra-terrestrials, only history and the mountain of evidence produced through 150 years of archeology, anthropology and comparative mythology.

    1 out of 5 stars Implying a connection that was never delivered.......2006-11-11

    Beware of the disconnected title for this book. If you are interested in learning about the research done on ancient, poorly documented cultures, some about people that were giant in size, you might like this book.
    However, if you think you are getting a review of Sons of Gods and their interaction with mortal women, then you will be disapointed (Like I was.)

    There is less than one half of a page (out of 294) that even suggests that there may have been any thing to the quote from the bible.

    4 out of 5 stars But what about the GIANTS?!.......2006-07-01

    Overall this is a well-written and researched book with lots of good information. However, I kept expecting the other shoe to fall... but it never really did.

    As the title implies, this book attempts to explain the origin of the "Sons of God and Daughters of Men" and the legends surrounding them. In the first few chapters Malkowski details various early myths about "giants" and the "Sons of God", as well as more recent documented discoveries of unusually large skeletal remains and tools. In subsequent chapters he then examines the possible origin, migration, and development of Neolithic man up through the birth of civilization... but never does he provide any explanation for, or further discussion of, the giants discussed in the opening chapters.

    The author's basic premise is that the "Daughters of Men" represent early Neolithic cultures; peaceful hunter-gather communities who became agrigarian (farmer-shepherds) after the Ice Age, venerated the Mother Goddess, recognized gender equality, and freely shared all resources and possessions among clan members. The "Sons of God" also likely began as hunter-gatherers, but somehow(?) became a more agressive society where weapons, once used only for hunting, became symbols of power and dominance. They developed the concepts of ownership and social class, the Mother Goddess (and women in general) was pushed aside to be replaced by predominantly male warrior gods, and the domestication of the horse gave them a significant advantage in mobility and warfare. Long story short, one group conquered the other.

    Malkowski wisely acknowledges that ancient myths often contain seeds of truth, but cautiously keeps both feet on the ground by brushing off some of the more "far-fetched" claims in these legends. He does, however, admit that there seems to have been an unknown "advanced civilization" that influenced and/or shared their knowledge with ancient Egypt and other early cultures who show little to no signs of progressive cultural development -- cultures that appear fully developed in every way from their inception. Yet there isn't even the slightest speculation by the author as to who these people were, or how advanced they may have been.

    The reader is led to *infer* that the giants were simply another extinct branch of our family tree. Large, yes, but still very human. But if that were the case why haven't archaeologist and anthropologists made any attempt to examine the evidence and welcome "homogigantus" into our family? I mean, other early hominids have been accepted as human ancestors based on far less physical proof, many of which are genetically further removed from modern man than the "giants" presumably were.

    It's not that I was expecting Malkowski to confirm (or refute) my own beliefs, but I *was* expecting a more thorough exploration of the giants, even if speculative.

    5 out of 5 stars A story of prehistory and the birth of civilization.......2004-03-09

    Very highly recommended reading for anyone with an interest in antiquarian history and/or the history of religion, In Sons Of God Daughters Of Men, Edward F. Malkowski pieces together a story of prehistory and the birth of civilization from the myths of Genesis discovered through the revelations of archaeology. Exploring the legends of history and various culture folklore, as well as cities from Biblical times, the search to locate Eden, the evolution of religious and spiritual thought since prehistoric times, and so much more, Sons Of God Daughters Of Men offers a thoughtful and thought-provoking wealth of insights into the gradual process of an increasing cultural sophistication in humankind's attempts to grapple with both real and spiritual dilemmas.

    5 out of 5 stars Eye opening.......2004-03-08

    "Sons of God: Daughters of Men" is a very well written book. It is thoroughly researched and well put together. This book offers an alternative view of history, not bound by religious or academic doctrine. Every author should be as thorough and unbiased as Mr. Malkowski.

    5 out of 5 stars Fascinating Research.......2004-01-06

    It seems as though there is a faction who would keep the truth from the masses. Scientists' egos prevent them from expanding their minds and embracing the research contained in this book. Publishers refuse to publish controversial findings such as this. The research is solid and the conclusions are logical.

    I found it a fascinating collection of information.

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars From Fear to Freedom.......2004-01-03

    HONESTY HONESTY HONESTY. This book is for every Christian. No one is exempt. Evangelical Christians understand we are saved by Grace through Faith alone, but when it comes to sanctification, we are so dishonest about our overwhelming need of God's grace every breathing second of our life. Worse yet, bad teachers & pastors keep pilling on more guilt of the law without a balance of Guilt, Grace & Gratitude.

    Are Jack and Rose Marie bucking the heavy emphasis of law in our sanctification that the Reformed tradition advocates? Are the Miller's advocating a Lutheran position of sanctification as getting use to our justification? (More on Lutheran doctrine of Sanctification, read Lutheran Seminary Prof. of Systematics & Author of Christology David Scaer) I believe the Miller's are advocating the proper Biblical position that the body of Christ grows in their faith by being attached as branches to the vine. We are to keep our eyes focused on the Jesus Christ the author and perfector of our faith.

    I was blessed by the quote at the beginning of the book by Francis Schaeffer "The present value of the blood of Christ." was proclaimed by Schaeffer when a crisis would present itself. I have reworked this quote after reading this book to say in all trying circumstances: "This situation is another opportunity to see God's faithfulness of Grace and Mercy work in my life." vs. the old defeating attitude, "Here I go again, another trial I can't control".

    As a step father of two unsaved adult children 19 & 27, I found great encouragement from the Miller's new confidence in prayer for their daughter Barbara's salvation.

    Several years ago, I dropped out of the Miller's Sonship course because I was afraid my mentor was going to abandon me in my orphan state and not raise me out. I have been passionately reading sound Biblical material on the implication of the Fall and how it radically turns me into an orphan fearing the unknown. Both Sonship and this book will be life changing for you like me. Nearly every page has a sentence or paragraph that I have highlighted. "Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever"!

    Has this book changed my life? Yes. Why did I give it four vs. five stars like the other reviews?

    Rose Marie by her own testimony in Chapter 6 describes a true conversion experience of seeing her sins and the righteousness of Christ. "I was so deeply convicted of my sin against God and awed by his receiving love that I barely made it through lunch that day." "Was this a conversion experience? Many people have asked that question. I am not certain. I had known all the right Christian words. And I prayed and had seen answers to prayer, especially in matters of health, protection, and material provision for our family. (Rose Marie-that is common grace, not regenerating grace-my words) But before Switzerland my working religious outlook does not seem to have generated by grace. Below the surface, mine was a religion of self-control through human will power, and my primary interest was in self-justification, not in Christ's justification." Rose Marie must edit this section before its next printing and say I was not saved. I was trusting in my own righteousness. I could not forgive, and scripture is clear Matthew 6:15 "But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

    Many details were left out. The story was shortened. I would like to know more about Rose Marie's relationship with her sister, mother and father when they lived in her and Jack's home. How did she handle a home full of people from the congregation that Jack was pastor when she had a mentally ill mother and sister to care for? Was her husband Jack adding additional burden? To my memory, Rose Marie does not share much about what her friends said to her during her struggles before her conversion experience in Switzerland. All her advice seems to come from her husband Jack.

    "Why do I have such a hard time trusting God whenever the way before me is unfamiliar?" Read the book and be blessed!

    5 out of 5 stars Freedom From Legalistic Christianity.......2003-05-07

    As a Christian who struggled with legalistic Christianity, the Lord used this book to open my eyes up to His saving G R A C E. I realized through this book that I can't do anything on my own and that even Christians try to live the Christian life without Christ. The Lord used this book to help me see that I don't need to live the Christian life by rules, laws, and regulations. Just by His grace. And when I come under His grace, everything else follows.

    5 out of 5 stars For every woman.......2003-01-25

    I don't think there is a woman alive who would not be touched by this book. Rose Marie's struggles resonate with most women. We have given this book to many of our friends and they all have been encouraged.

    5 out of 5 stars From Fear to Freedom: Living as Sons and Daughters of God.......2000-04-14

    This book is absolutely amazing. God truly speaks through her writing! If you are a woman who struggles with feeling like she doesn't "measure up," hates being "out of control," read this book! There is GRACE for God's children and there is acceptance in HIM! He loves us and is with us at ALL times!

    5 out of 5 stars Life changing, real life examples, teaches grace.......1999-05-12

    Rose Marie has done a wonderful job of weaving Biblical truths about personal grace and forgiveness with vulnernably told stories from her own life. If you live like an orphan when the King Himself is your Father, this book is for you. She helps the reader understand how we choose to live as rejected people, judged people, miserable people, complaining people, life's victims. She goes on to teach the loving grace and forgiveness of God. She also addresses those situations that are beyond our control, and how to accept and pray for others who hurt us. Its a whole new perspective for the person trained in leaglism. It added balance to my life in the form of personal grace that spills over to others, and has helped bring me closer to my loving Father,God.

    Book Description

    In recent decades, religious conservatives and secular liberals have battled over the "appropriate" role of women in society. In this absorbing exploration of Women's Aglow Fellowship, the largest women's evangelical organization in the world, R. Marie Griffith challenges the simple generalizations often made about charismatic or "spirit-filled" Christian women and uncovers important connections between Aglow members and the feminists to whom they so often seem opposed. Women's Aglow is an international, interdenominational group of "spirit-filled" women who meet outside the formal church structure for healing prayer, worship, and testimony. Aglow represents a wider evangelical culture that has gained recent media attention as women inspired by the Christian men's group, Promise Keepers, have initiated parallel groups such as Praise Keepers and Promise Reapers. These groups are generally newcomers to an institutional landscape that Aglow has occupied for thirty years, but their beliefs and commitments are very similar to Aglow's. While historians have examined earlier women's prayer groups, they've tended to ignore these modern-day evangelical groups because of their assumed connection to the "religious right."
    God's Daughters reveals a devotional world in which oral and written testimonies recount the afflictions of human life and the means for seeking relief and divine assistance. A relationship with God, envisioned as father, husband or lover, and friend, is a way to come to terms with pain, dysfunctional family relationships, and a desire for intimacy. Griffith's book is also valuable in showing the complex role that women play within Pentecostalism, a movement that has become one of the most important in twentieth-century world religions.

    5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Work.......2007-06-27

    I just devoured this book sitting in a bookstore. The book is revolutionary for feminism: a great critique of feminist stereotypes of religiosity with real life stories. It opens up feminism to religion and religion to feminism by drawing out parallels ignored in dominant discourses.

    As I read some of the stories, I had tears streaming down my face. I was completely engrossed by both the ethnographic elements and the theoretical arguments. Great job!

    Griffith does what I thought was impossible -- makes me feel sympathetic towards "submissive" fundamentalist women. This was a required text for one of my courses at a pretty liberal seminary. It was good for all of us to remind ourselves that "the other side" is made up (mostly) of normal, well-meaning human beings of good faith.

    3 out of 5 stars Interesting, scholarly study of women aglow fellowship.......1999-10-31

    This book is easy to read for a scholarly study. The author makes clear her own mind set in studying the subject and has succeeded in objectively describing her observations. I found it to be an interesting and informative book about a group of people with whom I have little contact and about whom I am inclined to have many prejudices. Ms. Griffith has made their interests clear and given me at least a small understanding of their world view.

    1 out of 5 stars dull boring and repetative.......1999-07-27

    I had to read this for college. I hated it! If it had been 100 pages it would have been much more interesting.

    Mom is older now and every day I call her. She reads that days prayer to me before we hang up the phone. After she reads it I say "back at you Mom, I love you". It is good. She appreciates the scriptural reference to the promises that God has made to us according to His Word. Everyday brings us closer.

    5 out of 5 stars This book re-energized our prayer life!.......1999-09-14

    My wife and I used Praying God's Will For My Daughter to help us pray for our adopted children even before they came to the US. It helped us bless them and increased our bonding with them.

    One of our favorite prayers was "We pray that neither death nor life, nor angels or principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate our daughter from the love of you God, which is in Christ Jesus, her Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)

    5 out of 5 stars A Book Every Christian Parent Should Keep at Their Bedside!.......1999-09-07

    Praying God's Will For My Daughter and Praying God's Will For My Son by Lee Roberts are wonderful books that every Christian parent should keep on their bedside table. They're organized by topic and lead you in praying Bible scriptures for your child. You can know you're praying God's will when you pray scripture. These books REALLY helped my prayer life to grow.

      4 out of 5 stars Hope above all,.......2007-06-07

      A capturing tale of hardships, hope, and love, "The Kitchen God's Wife" is a worthwhile read. Novelist Amy Tan trails her readers behind WeiWei, Winnie Louie, as she relives the tortures of her youth to share them with her American-can born daughter. When her mother disappears and she is sent to live in an unwelcoming house with unfamiliar relatives, young Winnie thinks she will never again live a happy life. When a fluke presents her with a marriage proposal, she thinks her future husband is too good to be true. Before their marriage has even fully set in, Winnie realizes her joy is short lived as Wen Fu turns her world into a nightmare. Amy Tan's heart-rending rendition of a Chinese woman's struggle in a world where she has no authority, speaks to all people who have ever felt trapped of helpless. She paints a model for all people who have ever felt like victims through Winnie as she suffers an abusive husband, the death of her children, the chaos of war, and the turmoils of emotional uncertainty. This novel is a touching read because to all people who have ever felt pain and it sends them a message of strive, understanding, survival, and most of all, hope.

      5 out of 5 stars Cultural Dynamics.......2007-04-05

      Step into the world of war-torn China and enjoy the mother-daughter relationship set in the backdrop. Tan provides amazing insight into Chinese culture.

      Book Description

      Alice is making her daughter dinner when her mother Olivia, who left her at a day care center when she was four, appears at her door. Alice has learned almost nothing about Olivia, when suddenly Olivia dies, leaving Alice to sift through her belongings. As she pieces together her mothers life, Alice learns how a woman can become so desperate that she leaves her childand so courageous that she finds her again. Not since her bestselling book The Friendship Cake has Hinton created characters who are so filled with heartache and fragile hope, that they will become a permanent part of the readers life.

      Customer Reviews:

      5 out of 5 stars beautiful crafted novel ~ a must read!.......2006-02-18

      This IS Lynne Hinton's best novel yet. It almost doesn't read like she wrote it only because it is so different than her other books. THE ARMS OF GOD is a lookback into time and threads the mother-daughter relationship into the present. The characters were heartfelt ~ it was a story most touching.

      5 out of 5 stars Beautiful artful prose.......2006-02-05

      and a wonderful story as well. When Alice excavates the remainders of her dead mother's belongings, she discovers why she was abandoned at 4 years old and the terrible life her mother tried to leave behind. The writing is beautiful, the word choices are fantastic and the prose is artful and so full that you actually miss the characters after you read the final page. A must read!

      5 out of 5 stars Artful Story.......2005-12-23

      I agree that this is by far Lynne Hinton's best novel to date. It is beautiful and inspiring. The writing is nothing less than art leaping from the pages. Long after the last page has been read, the characters will stay with you. I'd love to read a follow-up to this book!

      5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Novel!.......2005-11-30

      This is my favorite of all of Ms. Hinton's novels, and I've loved them all. In this story, which repeats some of the themes her other novels addressed (the importance of friendship, the mother-daughter relationship, the ongoing struggles of racism), the emotional depth keeps the reader engrossed to the very end. While it is a very sad story, in the end the novel satisfies our need for redemption and reconciliation. I read this more than a week ago and can't stop thinking about it.

      Lynne Hinton feeds my soul!

      5 out of 5 stars the meaning of motherhood.......2005-11-20

      Narayan of Rebeccasreads highly recommends THE ARMS OF GOD as a sublimely beautiful & sedately stunning read about the quality of motherhood.

      When Alice, abandoned as a child & now raising her own daughter, is confronted by the mother who left her, her life changes forever.

      THE ARMS OF GOD is a lovely, deep look into the spirit of family values & motherhood. Any woman reading this book will empathize, & even men might too!
