Call in the Geek Squad.......2007-09-28
Purporting to unveil the secret behind The Secret this book is a confused mish-mash New Age philosophy and pop psychology.
On the positive side, this book is physically quite attractive. The binder and section dividers feature lovely photographs and I thought the format was promising. The problem, however is in the contents. The author's style is clumsily self-conscious and she doesn't have an original idea.(In all fairness, there is not much new on the Law of Attraction. The trick is in a fresh presentation.) The book is packed with quotations of other people's works and song lyrics. Apparently, the author once ordered one book and another, a book of inspirational quotations, came instead She found this book wonderfully inspirational and each chapter features not just one or two quotes, but sometimes pages of them. Sorry, if I wanted to read Conversations with God I, II and III, The Nature of Personal Reality or any of the others she relies on, I would not have been reading her book. This over reliance on quotes is disruptive and contributes to the careful, term paperish effect.
This book quickly loses focus, jumping wildly from a clunky law of attraction formula to a recitation of the author's traumatic and abusive childhood and journey through different recovery modalities. While I credit her for addressing these challenges, it reads like a bad episode of Dr. Phil. It is somewhat troubling that she disparages the classic twelve step method as it does not fit within the precepts of her message.
The author refers to her higher self as "Angel". If you subscribe to the traditional definition of angels as being messengers of God, you will find his usage jarring.
If you are interested in the law of Attraction, there are many fine books that present it in an accessible manner. You can't go wrong with the classic Dynamic Laws of Prosperity by Catherine Ponder. The Abraham -Hicks materials provide a contemporary look at the law of attraction as do the Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale and Lynne Grabhorn's Excuse Me Your Life is Waiting. Michale Losier's Law of Attraction workbook is simple but effective while The Sedona Method and Larry Crane's Abundance Course are superb tutorials on releasing. If you opt for this offering you will receive a really neat binder and a headache.

Absolutely DIVINE!.......2002-02-09
I am a Metaphysician and an avid Law of Attraction (LOA) worker. One of my favorite things to do is continuously reveal to myself *evidence* of how Great Things Really Are. Lauren's book is an SPARKLING JEWEL! I totally adore how she has collected quotes & passages from throughout the ages from a huge assortment of Wise Voices and I definitely appreciate her research format of actually citing her sources (so often missing or incomplete in others' works). Her material is accurate, timely, and perfectly applicable - especially so in our current world situation. Read this book and drink from the Well of Wellbeingness. Your soul will thank you, your heart will rejoice, and your mind will have something very tangible to work with. The best part? You'll discover that your Sacred Imagination is finally free to do its thing: Make YOUR Personal Universe/Reality Delicously FUN! This is THE BOOK to savor for Deliberate Creators Everywhere :) I cannot say enough Good Things about this wonderful work. Lauren, you've made Life Easier and that's Really Fantastic!
Wow! What a life changing creation!.......2001-11-02
I have not been the same since I read this book. Lauren takes a lot of metaphysical teachings and puts them all together in one easy to read book, with practical applications. It's just amazing! I think that anyone who reads this book, and is serious about loving life and living life to it's fullest will find this "THE ONE" to get them on their way. Once you are on your way, if you falter, you can always go back through the book and re-apply it to new situations that come up. It will never be outdated.

Her name meant "date palm," and like her namesake, Tamar hoped to survive the harsh environment she was placed in: to bend but not to break. Rubbed with scented oil and arrayed in wedding finery, 14-year-old Tamar is thrust into a world of abuse, betrayal, and disillusionment when she is given in marriage to an evil, idol-worshiping man. In the face of her suffering, she must make choices: Will she let her new husband, Er, destroy her innocence and corrupt her? Will she leave the religion of the Canaanites and embrace the God of the Hebrews despite the life of misery she is cast into? Or will she fall into despair and become as wicked as her husband and his brothers?
Unveiled is the first in award-winning veteran author Francine Rivers' Lineage of Grace series of five novellas, which feature biblical women in the genealogy of Christ: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. This dramatic retelling of the scandalous risks Tamar must take to ensure her place in biblical history showcases Rivers' ability to sketch a short vignette of an ancient character and bring her to life in the minds of contemporary readers. The twin themes of sin's consequences and God's redemption resonate throughout the pages of this engrossing novella. --Cindy Crosby

Tamar brought to life.......2007-05-19
Francine Rivers has the wonderful ability to take a character from the bible and bring her to life, by adding context and details. Although the additions are fictional, they are well researched and give great insight into the culture and the times, and make for a fascinating story. Hard to put this little book down!
Excellent book..........2007-03-19
I didn't know I could have so much knowledge of Tamar when she seems to just be a blip in the Bible. My eyes have been opened. The author gave a wonderful account into her life but also into Judah. A book I couldn't put down or stop recommending.
A few thoughts on Tamar.......2007-03-15
Francine Rivers does an excellent job with this story. So often the women and "the other" are voiceless in the Bible; it's good to hear a story from their point of view.
A retired bishop once said, "As long as you don't contradict scripture, you can use your imagination to weave a credible story." That is exactly what Ms. Rivers does here. From Tamar's upbringing and early home life, to being plucked as the wife of Er (a man who was wicked in the Lord's sight), to being given to Onan and then being shunned as a widow . . . the story moves along very well and gives the reader some insight into what it could have been like to live as a piece of property.
There were a couple of theological quibbles I had, mainly with some of the questions in the back; not enough to not use the book, but enough to make my parishioners aware of them.
This whole set should offer a good discussion around the ancestral women in Jesus' lineage.
A must read for those who love the Old Testament stories!.......2007-02-07
The message of this book is that God acts in improbable ways in order to show His sovereignty, His grace, and His power. As Paul says in Romans "Who are we to question our Creator?," yet is our human concept to call this improbable. It is just wonderful to read a story that has so much of God's plan woven in! Just like He chose Abraham as the father of His chosen people, who was a common man from Ur and from a human standpoint did not deserve this call more than any of us do.....He chose this unsuspecting Canaanite woman Tamar to carry on the line of Jesus. Even Isaac's son Judah who fled his brothers to marry a non-Hebrew woman, continuing to be tormented by the memory of what he and his brothers had done to Joseph years before, is the line of the Holy Son of God! Improbable? Yet it is all in God's plan! And how it is all woven hundreds of years prior to lead up to the Son of God's birth!
Tamar was different from her Canaanite clan. She wanted to know the Hebrew God, Judah's God. She wanted more than worship of clay idols. She felt there was something more to life...she longed for more. She wanted to know the God who had power. What an amazing character Francine Rivers portrays, having to move from home for an arranged marriage as a young teenage girl. Her mother and father needed their daughter to be the "savior" of the family, to help connect the families as a protection to their Canaanite clan from the Hebrews. She had to move to a foreign land and be the wife of the infamous eldest son of Judah, only to be abused, rejected by her mother-and-law, unaccepted as a true member of the family. Yet, she remained true to her pledge through it all. God rewards this remarkable young woman...as the great-great-...-grandmother of Jesus Christ!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a historical painting of this wonderful Bible story. As Christians, we should all be as true to our God as Tamar was to God before she even knew Him!
Bible characters and Old Testament practices.......2007-01-03
I read many books by Christian authors. I found this book to be of special interest. I vaguely knew who Tamar was but this book, which I read in one afternoon, sent me to study Genesis. I have a desire to know more about the customs practiced in the Old Testament.

A little wisdom, a lot of vindictiveness.......2007-08-30
I was greatly disappointed in these books. I've read a bit by the more modern theosophist authors and wanted to dig back into some of the "classic" texts. What I found in these 2 books is a strange pudding in which a few nuggets of knowledge are randomly interspersed with a big amorphous mass of diatribe against science (Vol 1) and Christian religion (Vol 2). Perhaps because I've already encountered most of the interesting knowlege in these books elsewhere I am more aware of the matirix of hate (too strong a word?) in which they were embedded. I think we all know that both science and religion have huge blind spots and that the christain church has actively persicuted any beliefs contrary to her own. Perhaps in HPB's time she felt that this needed to be known, but that hardly warrents 1400 pages of sledgehammering and repetition.
The book is also a mess to follow. Chapter headings generally have little or nothing to do with what is presented there, it is really a rambling random mess, not seeming to build or evolve in any rational way.
A much more coherent and informative book is The Secret Teacing of All Ages by Manley Hall. It contains much of what is here without the editorial commentary. Its half the length of this and twice as informative.
QUITE INFORMATIVE!.......2007-01-10
The two volumes of "Isis" treat of the interrelationship of science and religion as they correspond to the Ancient Wisdom, or Theosophy. The author, HPB, takes painstaking care to show how modern science (c. 1875ff.) is greatly at odds with theosophical science inasmuch as the ultra materialistic perspective of modern scientists prevents them from seeing the meta-reality of the science of the Ancient Wisdom.
HPB is quite thorough in venturing among a number of prominent scientists of her day--e.g. Farraday, Huxley, Cooke--and showing how their theories either: (1) were preceded by the Ancient philosophers/mystics or (2) are hopelessly obscured, and hence, invalid, due to the refusal of the modern scientist to accord well with principles that operate beyond the realm of the several measurable senses.
Consequently, HPB takes something of a polemical tone in these volumes, which, at times, can be somewhat tiring, as the volumes total 1400 pp.
The second volume treats of the development of religion from the most ancient times to the modern day, and attempts to show how the Ancient Wisdom beliefs were only taught to the initiates of the Inner Mysteries and how, over time, various perversions of that teaching got picked up by the profane and then layered over with ceremonies, rules and superstitions. Volume 2 shows, for instance, how sacred Egyptian temple rites devolved into the Greek religion of Eleusis, and how that developed into the Roman cult mythology and how Judaism was a pastiche of the faiths of Egypt, Persia (contemporary Iran), with Christianity being the latest of the religious heritage, excepting Islam.
In my opinion, humble though it be, HPB seeks to show how all religions form from one common thread and that, thus, there are far more similarities in our far-flung and diverse belief systems than there are differences. The author invites us to look beneath the superficial, what she calls, 'the husks', and into the 'true kernal', so that we can claim what was once lost.
Overall, I would recommend these volumes to the reader, assuming he has patience to wade through a fair amount of detail, has some ability to read Greek and Latin, and loves small-print footnotes. Even should the reader be unconvinced of HPB's thesis, she should come away with much food for thought.
Myth or Myth? you be the judge.......2006-02-16
This book has no scientific proof of exisitence nor validity. Purely speculation and guess work seemingly based upon one persons viewpoint and assumptions made thereof. I would not take this book seriously nor read in in any other manor than to fall asleep at night!
MUST READ FOR A DEEP UNDERSTANDING!!!.......2003-10-05

A Great Introduction - but not the method itself.......2003-04-09
This book is an awe inspiring introduction to the largely ignored esoteric knowledge and history that weaves throughout human history. Blavatsky delivers to humanity a potent clue toward much that is unknown by common people. Those who have read her works develop a new appreciation and respect for mystical traditions the world over and gain more discriminatory thinking, as they are less likely to buy the mass illusion spun by our modern culture. Fortunately, the interested student doesnt have to stop there; previously, those who were inspired by Blavatsky and other such writers were left to struggle with learning how to incorporate such knowledge or discover how to access it themselves, and because she and all other true initiates were unable to reveal the direct and practical instruction that any student would require in order to enter the path, there were and are many who end in frustration, unable to access the experiences and knowledge they crave so much. This is a great tragedy, but it is no longer necessary. This all changed in 1950 when Samael Aun Weor began publishing his works. His works are not erudite, full of bibliographic references or in depth historical analysis: his works are entirely practical, as he was the first initiate duly authorized to reveal to humanity what had always previously been hidden. Thus his works are full of techniques and instruction that every student can use in order to discover in themselves the truths expressed by all the great teachers of humanity. Thus his teachings have spread so thick in the Spanish-speaking countries that you find small towns that don't even have a post office but they will have a Gnostic School. He was allowed to do so because this humanity has become so degenerated and caught in lies and deception that there is no other hope save to offer them a last chance by revealing the beauty of the Great Arcanum in order that some may redeem themselves of the suffering we are all trapped within. Try "The Doomed Aryan Race" or "The Mystery of the Golden Blossom." You can find his works at the Gnostic Institute zshop.

Truth hurts but Christians are not to hate anyone just hate sin.......2007-09-07
I own this book and used it to teach Sunday School. My class found it very interesting and informative. It does make one think about what we have been taught and how Church today is in need of Spirit (Holy Spirit) guidance. I don't know how biased the interpretations are, but many of them make sense to me. I don't think Catholics are being bashed as a whole. Just some Roman pagan influence that is still in many different denominations is brought to light. The seven churches are very diverse and I don't see one religion being put down. Each church and each Christian must evaluate where we each fit in. And we live in a fallen world, Satan is the ruler right now. We battle the flesh (self) everyday. I belong to a Methodist Church right now and it is far from perfect. I have also been in a Christian, Baptist, Pentecostal, and have Catholic friends. None of them is perfect, but we can learn from each other. There is a Counterfeit Revival going on right now, and it is not the Catholic church. I do know my grandmother was told that in order to get my grandfather out of Pergutory (Where is that in the Bible?) had to pay the Catholic church alot of money. That is when she quit going to church.
God is bigger than any organization and He can reach down and touch any life. He does ask us to humble ourselves and pray and turn from our wicked ways, then He promises to hear us and reach down and heal our land.
I don't see much humility or prayer. He also tells us not to judge each other and I think the Left Behind series of books and movies will at least make people think about God and what the future holds. If one person comes to Salvation it is worth it. What are you doing to reach out?
revelation unvieled.......2007-07-28
is a good source of information I have always had trouble understanding the book of revelation in the bible this book has helped me to understand more
Welcome to fantasy island.........2007-03-01
This book may as well be a science fiction novel. None of the information in this book is based on Sacred Scripture. Where he gets his interpretations of the Book of Revelation, we don't want to know. All of the information on the Catholic faith is completely wrong and he has done no research to substantiate his claims against the Church. The only thing I would recommend this book for is to start your next winter fire with.
Awesome, do NOT miss this one!!!!.......2006-12-28
Liberal Christians hate it, and that says
a lot it all in my book! As for the book itself, it is a clear, practical look at the Book of Revelation. If folks don't like this book it is because they are fearful of what the Book of Revelation tells us is going to happen to the unbelieving and apostate amongst us. Christians you will LOVE this book if you struggle to understand the Book of Revelation.
Textbook in Parochialism.......2006-10-18
Just when it seemed dispensationalism was losing steam, along came Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins to breathe new life into the movement with the apocalyptic novel Left Behind. That book and the remainder of the series is based upon the dispensationalist system of eschatology developed in the 19th century and made the standard for fundamentalism in the 20th. That there is little scriptural or historical support does not seem to phase its adherents in the least. They merely read their own meanings into passages by imposing a systematic superstructure upon the prophetic verses of Scripture and map their imagined meanings onto the texts. This artificial system is made to fit - often in a forced manner - no matter how square the pegs and how round the holes.
Yet before LaHaye came up with the idea for Left Behind, he also wrote books detailing the system he supported in a more conventional manner. One of the more important to gain an understanding of LaHaye's eschatological views is his commentary on the Book of Revelation, Revelation Unveiled. Here we see the system that guides his novels without the ability to hide behind claims of literary license. What emerges is a parochial, nationalistic, and bigoted vision in which God seems to save the most vital outpourings of the Holy Spirit for White Anglo-Saxon Protestants living in the southern United States.
Needless to say, LaHaye would take issue with that claim but this is primarily because he fails to recognize the flaws and biases of the ingrained assumptions that are intrinsic to the fundamentalist subculture that has formed the backdrop of his theological upbringing. Part of this is a virulent anti-Catholicism that manifests itself in opposition to much of what is historic Christianity in favor of an individualistic and uniquely Ameican distortion of the faith. He time and again peddles views that are part of the American ethos as essential to Christianity and holds what happens to his subculture and their ancestors as determining the health of the Church.
This parochialism is seen early in his interpretation of the seven churches as outlining periods of Church history with the most negative saved for the medieval and contemporary church and the most positive saved for his idealized period of Evangelicalism. Besides the obvious fact that there is no justification in the text or history for such an interpretation, there is the clear problem that he sees everything from the eyes of a modernist American. The so-called "Dark Ages" were a completely Western phenomenon and even then it recovered when peace was restored. In the Eastern half of the Roman Empire, the Byzantines carried on the great patristic tradition and in the lands east of the old empire, the Church of the East would engage in one of the most remarkable evangelistic outreaches in history. In the ideal Evangelical age of LaHaye's imagination, Christianity was in almost complete decline as the views of secularism took hold of Europe and much of America. In the contemporary era when things are supposed to be collapsing, Asia and Africa are seeing conversions to the faith that dwarf any evangelistic outreach in history. It is quite obvious LaHaye judges the success of the Church by the success of that part of the Church through which he can trace his lineage.
Things do not get much better in later chapters as LaHaye uses all manner of logical gymnastics to attempt to make the Scriptural passages fit into the dispensationalist system. All he seems to do is perform verbal sleight-of-hand and, when he cannot overcome the obvious difficulties, resort to ad hominem attacks on his opponents. Again and again he constructs artificial and completely shallow arguments for the rapture but never explains why there is no passage in Scripture that states Christ will come back twice. It is merely the system that imposes the idea and the necessity of the system that divides passages into "rapture" and "second coming" classes. Amid the charts and graphs is the undeniable fact that this system is a modern construction that would not have been recognized by any Christian living in the first millennia and a half of the Church's existence.
Not that this is an issue for most dispensationalists. There is a great irony that these alleged rebels against modernism are thoroughly modernistic in their approach to Holy Scripture. History means nothing to them as they revel in their "new discoveries" that could not have been known "until now." Just as all the Christians throughout history must step aside to their superior understanding, even the world itself must end because they have arrived to usher in the last days. They have taken the modernist idea of progress and internalized it as a facet of the Christian faith. The belief that modern Evangelicals will unite with Jews to usher in the end of all things (of course, the Evangelicals get whisked away while the Jews are left behind to face slaughter) becomes an apocalyptic version of the American ideal of manifest destiny. Nineteenth century modernism lies at the heart of twenty-first century fundamentalism.
The crudeness of LaHaye's anti-Catholicism is not as subtly displayed as in his fictional Left Behind series. Here he makes overt attacks and draws heavily upon Lorraine Boettner's Roman Catholicism as a source for his views. Boettner's work has long been recognized as horribly biased and inaccurate and has been a sourcebook for anti-Catholic bigots for decades.
His crude biases apply no less to those with non-dispensationalist views than to those from other ecclesial traditions. He constantly harps on the fact that dispensationalists take a "literal" reading but this is clearly not the case. In a book laden with symbolism, the symbolic interpretation is the literal reading. In fact, LaHaye gets it all backwards! In his interpreation of the first three chapters that are not part of John's vison and are clearly messages to seven churches in first century Asia Minor, he reads them as symbolic of Church history. But in the later chapters that are part of John's apocalyptic vision and obviously drenched in symbolism, he complains because others seek to understand the symbols in their proper context. Here, LaHaye and other dispensationalists go wild trying in bizzarre attempts to match these symbols to "literal" modern weaponry. It never occurs to them that such prophetic visions in the Holy Scriptures are never analagous to a video playback but are given in symbols that need interpreting.
A glance at the bibliography given in the book is evidence enough of his insulation within the fundamentalist mindset. The books cited are largely from his own fundamentalist camp and reinforce his own biases. He makes no attempt to understand those with different views in their own words but merely parrots attacks from other authors who share the views of his subculture. Even the few that do not fall into this category are outdated works that do not reflect contemporary standards of scholarship.
Revelation Unveiled is a textbook case that exposes the truly unsavory backdrop that underlies the worldview of fundamentalism. It takes much of the worldview of 19th century Anglo-Americanism and seeks to apply it as a foundation for the Christian faith. Dispensationalism is thus merely an outgrowth of that view applied to escahtology. If there were any doubt, LaHaye unwittingly asserts just how culturally biased that view has become. Even among dispensationalist commentaries on the Book of Revelation, it attempts new lows. It is the "ugly American" of eschatological commentaries and should give pause to any reader of the Left Behind series who does not share its underlying biases.

Book Description
Picking up where the bestselling and controversial "The Christ Conspiracy" leaves off, "Suns of God" leads the reader through an electrifying exploration of the origin and meaning of the world's religions and popular gods. Over the past several centuries, the Big Three spiritual leaders have been the Lords Christ, Krishna and Buddha, whose stories and teachings are curiously and confoundingly similar to each other. The tale of a miraculously born redeemer who overcomes heroic challenges, teaches ethics and morality, performs marvels and wonders, acquires disciples and is famed far and wide, to be persecuted, killed and reborn, is not unique but a global phenomenon recurring in a wide variety of cultures long before the Christian era.
These numerous godmen were not similar "historical" personages who "walked the earth" but anthropomorphizations of the central focus of the famous "mysteries." A major element of the cryptic, international brotherhood, these mysteries extend back thousands of years and are found worldwide, reflecting an ancient tradition steeped in awe and intrigue. The reasons for this religious development, which has inspired the creation of entire cultures, are unveiled in this in-depth analysis containing fascinating and original research based on evidence both modern and ancient, captivating information kept secret and hidden for ages.
"Suns of God" is possibly the most complete review of the history of religion from its inception ever composed in a single volume.

astounding scholorship.......2007-09-20
Not a book for the easily offended(christians,jews...etc). Very enlightening and VERY well documented view of the history of our "saviours". I recommend it highly to those few critical thinkers left out there.
A siminal and salient work in the study of religious mythology........2007-04-06
Acharya is simply outstanding. This should be required reading for all Christians provided they use their rational mind to objectively evaluate the evidence. Those with the blinders of faith firmly in place should buy and study this book. Since religion can be equated with mental delusion, a person owes themselves the dignity to question the embraced myth. This book will show you the questions to ask and point the way to find the answers. The many scholars of the past who proved beyond a shadow of doubt that the big three Sun Gods are mythological constructions are amply sampled. The quote heavy format and simplified bibliography make SoG a useful tool for those seeking to understand the development of religious legend. This book should be very helpful. Its a strong buy.
Disturbing until Deprogrammed -- Scholarship that Lifts the Veils.......2007-03-27
Acharya has researched a variety of sources to pull together truths that lift the comfortable veil shadowing most of humanity today. At first for people embedded in one of the main world religions, as it was for me, this can be a disturbing read. If one keeps an open mind and is willing to independently see truth, Acharya's books are important towards deprogramming people. The importance of deprogramming oneself is to develop critical thinking skills vital to independent individual thought instead of mass movement or mass thought which overwhelms and substitutes independent observation. Note that: 1984 is only possible when groups organize at the expense of the individual.
We see clearly all around us how the impetus for many wars and manipulations are abusing the good intentions of people who have believed en mass without question the "sacred" books. As one withdraws support from mass manipulations, it becomes clearer that mind control actually is used to tie humanity to needless suffering -- both self-imposed and externally inflicted.
I actually was afraid to write a review for a period since the mind control programming was so strong. People today are still entrained to shun those who are not of their particular belief systems.
If one is willing to leave the shores and explore, a wise life choice, Acharya's books are a good place to begin. It feels like a medicine that tastes bad almost bad enough to kill you, but it is effective. The scholarship is extensive and this book is a bargain. If read with an open mind, this book can be life changing, if you'll let it. If you do, you won't want to go back. You'll find you're beginning to buy your own freedom of choice and can choose life in ways perhaps previously unavailable to you.
At the very least, it's an interesting read. Also consider, the more something is opposed (the more energy that goes into putting something down like these books), the more important it is to understand what's behind the efforts to suppress the information.
Pulls no punches .......2007-02-16
As a former Christian minister, and perhaps more importantly as a former apologist for the faith I would like to comment on this latest book from Acharya S.
First, and what is often hardest for the faithful to accept, is that she is correct in nearly all of her statements concerning the history of organized religions, especially in the west.
Second, and perhaps equally difficult for those who prefer fantasy to reality, is that she is so direct about it. She makes no bones about her belief, or perhaps lack of belief, and although she and I do not agree on every detail- still, Acharya has pretty much outlined, at least for anyone seriously considering a leap off that fence between belief and disbelief, a required text- a primer of common sense if you wish. I have read the reviews and it would seem that you either loved the book- or hated it. There is no way anyone, regardless of how faithful to their religion they might be, can rate this book any less than 4 stars, if for nothing more than the viable research it involved. One major problem that many find with adherents to religion is their black and white- all or nothing approaches to pretty much everything. They are not open to new ideas or new beliefs- they have a vested interest in staying the course. Recently I was asked to be part of a panel formed to investigate the accuracy of some of the Gnostic texts that were voted out of the official Bible. For purposes of historical and social accuracy, many panel members were using the accepted Bible. This I felt was completely wrong headed- as anyone who sees the Bible as the final edict of historical fact is already refusing to accept or acknowledge any other authority, for example the writers Tacitus and Philo of Alexandria. This ties in to the very basis of Acharya's books- the search for and use of other source materials and mythologies that may perhaps better explain the history of western religions. If we remember that the first synod was in Laodicea a part of modern day Greece, where about 363 AD, a group of men came together to decided which books of the dozens of Gospel accounts were to be aloud to be read in churches. Since that time, there have been almost a dozen similar organizations, headed by Bishops, Popes, and Emperors, that have managed to rule out many of the stories about Jesus that conflicted with the idea that some, and certainly not most, of his original followers held of who he was. They have given us the Bible in it's current accepted edition. Had all the original manuscripts been kept, the Bible of today would be an even bigger jumble of contradiction, confusion, and myth. However, having read most of this material, I think it would certainly would have made for a better read.
Finally, as I explained to the committee- the Gospels are not history; they are religious stories and propaganda. They are contradictory, exaggerated, and in many aspects mythical. To many non-Christian historical researchers, those who deal with cold facts, there remains serious doubt that Jesus ever existed as a real person, although I believe he did. Still, it is impossible to prove anything about him apart from he may or may not have been an historical figure and it is more plausible, as Acharya points out in her first book, that Jesus was the result of myth making, a human process that is indeed historically documented.
Finally, let me say to the faithful, I would recommend avoiding this book- it may well become the fly in your ointment of a faith based life. To others, especially those indoctrinated into religion at an early age- perhaps it is time to seek a foundation for your beliefs in a book other than the Bible. Also I especially enjoyed the FOREWORD.
EVEN BETTER THAN HER FIRST BOOK!.......2006-12-12
Pay no attention to the flatliner-fundiots that diss this book without even having read it! These lying snakes-in-the-grass carry on their ideological warfare, "lying for the truth" all over Amazon. They're human dreck sucking filth at the teets of evil!
Now on to Acharya's delightful book! :-D
Starting where her controversial (and bestselling) book The Christ Conspiracy left off, Suns of God guides the reader in an illuminating journey all the way back to the origins of the three greatest World Religions and the Triumvirate of its three deities: Buddha, Krishna, and Christ. Acharya demonstrates that the life stories and teachings of these three Demigods are suspiciously similar. Take for instance the tale of the virgin-born divine Teacher/Savior who overcomes demonic temptations, instructs his followers in sublime morality and ethics, works wonders and miracles, forms a band of followers, and is hailed as a Godsend far and wide. Then this Godman is finally persecuted, put to death, and resurrected. This tale is not unique to Christianity, but occurs many times throughout history, and all over the world, predating by centuries and even millennia the story of Jesus Christ.
The many Demigods or "Godmen" throughout history are not historical figures that just "happen" by coincidence to share the same nature and life story! No, these "Godmen" are all one and the same Mythic being under many names, a Myth that has been central to the so-called "Mystery religions" throughout recorded human history. This dying-and-rising Godman Myth is the focal point of a worldwide fellowship whose Mysteries reach back for many millennia. That is why these Godmen Myths are unbiquitous, and carry such an air of occult mystery. In fact, it is this Godman Myth that is behind the generation of a number of entire cultures! Acharya S explores all this and more as she takes the reader on a fascinating journey to Understanding. She reveals to the reader exactly why this Divine Myth was created, by divulging the secrets of the worldwide effort to illumine humanity through this central Mythical motif that is found all over the world. She also exposes those who wish to derail the purpose of this Myth by changing it's focus to...well, you'll have to read the book to find out!
Suns of God is the best and most comprehensive treatment of the History of Religion that has ever been offered in a single, readable, enjoyable volume. Suns of God is not merely a sequel, but a solid piece of research that stands on its own. I give this book five stars and two thumbs way up!
An excellent five-star companion volume is JEHOVAH UNMASKED which has been endorsed by Acharya S herself! "Rev. Merritt illustrates a powerful personal journey that many people can relate to but may not yet have made themselves. Like our individualized personalities, our conclusions to cosmic conundrums may be different. Nevertheless, JEHOVAH UNMASKED represents another nail in the biblical coffin that contains a mummified and rotten god belonging to the violent barbarians and troglodytes of the Stone Age." -Acharya S.
JEHOVAH UNMASKED is a fascinating look at the real identity of the god Jehovah. Is Jehovah "Almighty God" or just a pretender? Is God a despotic murdering lunatic as the Old Testament depicts, or is that just a pretender god? Did the first Christians believe in God the Mother? What and where is the Kingdom of God? Who told the First Lie in the Garden of Eden, Jehovah or the Serpent? Are you SURE? Who or what was it that gave us the list of New Testament books as we have them now? The answers to these questions will shock, fascinate, inform, and entertain.

Customer Reviews:
A great review, a poor introduction to the subject matter.......2007-07-04
I believe that this book is a great review for students who understand both Haanel and Wattles. The aphorisms and parables will trigger a resonance if you already undersatnd and appreciate their teachings.
If you don't, this book will seem like random babbling. So if you're a begginer start with a free copy of The Science of Getting Rich then once you feel comfortable, get the Master Key.
Then use this book as a travel companion of "greatest hits." I feel that this book is not foundational but a commentary and refresher course on two of the great teachers on this subject.
Overlooked.......2007-06-01
This book is very poorly typeset. Many overlooks this aspect of reading, but believe me, the content is so serious that requires a better presentation.
I recommend this other book that has an audiobook feature.
The Master Key System - Book and AudioBook (for Download)
Masters of the Secrets - Haanel and Wattles.......2007-04-30
This is a great executive refresher of the teachings of Haanel and Wattles. Easy to read and nice codification of the best teachings of both. I was impressed by the illustrations and explanations of the laws of attraction, laws of gratitude, laws of harmony, & laws of action that are included in this book. Inspiring for anyone who enjoys the: mystics, mind sciences, new thought, the secrets of attraction, and more.
Because there are teachings of 2 people in this book, there are some contrasts in philosophy. Thus, the reviewer below overlooked that simple fact. The review below simply wants to plug his website and his spam should be removed. Before listening to the multi-level marketer below, buy the book and see what its like to go to the next level of mental science and understand the secrets of these 2 greats.
Kindest Regards, Wattles
Mixed feelings........2007-03-26
This book has a fantastic and promising title . . . but, it just doesn't deliver enough.[..]
A good feature of this book is that the text is in large Arial font, printed on a slightly off-white paper (I personally think it is quite easy to read, no strain on the eyes at all. Although they could have done it without using Bold font - way too thick and harsh!)
The book is basically a short summary (about 58 pages) of two other books: "The Master Key System" by Charles F. Haanel and "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles.
The book has a few inconsistencies which are quite confusing. For example, on one page it says, in order to achieve your desires "be absorbed in the goal or object of your desires . . . a FEW MINUTES every day" and then, on another page, ". . . visualize and contemplate on your goals and ideas DAY AND NIGHT."
Also, the "bonus" section called "Critique and Summary of the Philosophy of Wallace Wattles", is not a critique at all. There is nowhere in it any criticizing, criticism, or critical comments on Mr. Wallace's work. What it really is, is a short (about 8 pages long) summary of concepts from the "Science of Getting Rich" book, peppered with some of Prof. Mentz's own ideas.
The book gives good general principles for materializing your desires, but does not provide a structured, practical, step-by-step clear method.
The section at the end called "Glossary", although a very useful section (it may even be the best 7½ pages in the book), is only a list of terms in paragraph form (and most of them are not even taken from the book itself!), without accompanying definitions.
I have mixed feelings recommending this book. Instead, if you are interested, go to self-improvement-ebooks.com and obtain the original versions in eBook format at a very reasonable cost (however, these are a much lengthier read). I especially enjoyed Wallace D. Wattles' Lessons in Constructive Science series contained in some of his collections.
A Great Manual for Abundance and Prosperity.......2006-08-15
This author takes The original Great manuscript -- The Master Key System by Haanel and codifies the 24 parts into a wonderful executive summary and manual on the teachings of Haanel. The book also has a critique of the secret 4 parts that are hard to get (parts 25, 26, 27, and 28).
Moreover, this manuscript has a really cool bonus chapter and summary on the applied metaphysics of The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles.
In sum, the books "brings it all together" for Haanel and Wattles and also contains a nifty metaphysical glossary in the back. Overall, it is a short, easy to read, super inspirational little book, and it is obvious that the author has done his homework.
This text is also a good source and supplement for persons interested in business leadership, building success on a spiritual level, Buddhist or Hindu Success Writings, Christian mysticism, and The philosophy of the great thinkers of success. A must buy if you want to go to the next level of your prosperity thinking.
Regards, DM

A Thriller Cozy?.......2007-09-20
My first "Mrs. Pollifax" novel. With little buildup, the reader is in Syria with Mrs. Pollifax, a CIA biddy, and her sidekick. Their mission is to find and rescue an American girl who has saved a planeload of passengers and then disappeared. They have various adventures until they land in an archeological dig. This was an odd book, and it finally dawned on me that there's minimum violence, in spite of one murder, off screen, and that it's actually a cozy. If Mrs. Pollifax did a bit of knitting and had a cat, the genre would be complete. Instead we have sheep and an unlikely rescue. In spite of the oddball, bloodless scenarios and capers, I rather enjoyed the escapade, and came to like Mrs. Pollifax who seems to be a rather clever old bat.
Mrs Pollifax unveiled.......2007-02-22
Mrs Pollifax is someone I discovered by accident a couple of years ago and since then I have been trying to collect the series in which she figures. Delightful is what comes into my mind to describe the books. A new location each time, a new adventure, and absolutely plausible where simple common sense rules the day. In this one, she is off to Africa with barely a clue in her hand - just a mission to locate a girl who did a heroic deed in disarming hijackers and then completely disappears. Mrs P finds her - going from clue to clue, and in the process averts an assassination. The stories never stale, and can be re-read and the enchantment still holds.
In Strange Places Where There Is Danger........2006-06-26
Emily Pollifax has gone through a lot of dangerous adventures since Dorothy Gilman created her best known character in the '70s. She was known as a super sleuth as a CIA (?) secret agent on assignments in unusual places. Some of the fifteen or so titles called her amazing, elusive, pursued, unexpect, and innocent. She survived many death-defying situations like being locked overnight in a medieval Swiss Castle.
For a Garden Club member from New Brunswick, New Jersey, she found herself in many tight spots, like her espionage assignament in Morrocco, Turkey, in the 'Whirling Dervish.' This one is similar as she balks an airplane terrorist. You can always find her in foreign locales while her husband carries on at home. I can't choose which is my favorite, but Mrs. Gilman has been a most prolific writer and creator of Mrs. Pollifax.
Don't miss out on Dorothy Gilman.......2005-10-26
Fun fun fun. I highly recommend all of Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax books just for the pure escapist, fun of reading about an "older" woman who knows how to take care of herself!
Patty Hearst syndrome.......2003-07-02
There is a question whether an American woman is alive or dead in Syria. The CIA summons Emily Pollifax and another free-lance hand, John Sebastian Farrell. They travel to Syria. It seems that rumors in the bazaar indicate that Amanda Pym, the person concerned, is still alive after having been kidnapped six weeks earlier. She had foiled some hijackers and entered a wrong car directly after the event when being interviewed by news organizations.
When Mrs. Pollifax and Farrell arrives in Damascus and checks into the hotel, Mrs. Pollifax finds a note. She had been advised by her superior, Carstairs, that help could be expected. The note directs themn to go to the Citadel. Things really heat up as Farrell gets taken into police custory and Mrs. Pollifax, having been struck in the head with something, makes her way to an archaeological dig, a caravansary, to find the next clue. Traveling the following day in a borrowed land rover in search of the shepherd who may have seen Amanda Pym, Mrs. Pollifax and her guide, Joe Fleming, enter an area of the desert where snipers are boing trained. They find a burned American passport that may have belonged to Amada Pym.
Farrell arrives at the camp reporting that he had been held by a nefarious group, not the police at all, who seemed to know everything about Amanda Pym. Determining to view the encampment at night, to try to see what the shepherd saw, they look through the binoculars and see Amanda Pym among the people in camouflage garb who were supposed to be snipers in training. Farrell comes to know more about Amanda Pym by piecing together pieces of her journal found in the vicinity of the burned passport. The means Mrs. Pollifax, Farrell, and Joe Fleming employ to separate Amanda Pym from the others I care not to disclose. I will say that the solution involves the aid of sheep and golden hamsters. The working out of the details both in Syria and elsewhere proves to be extremely exciting and delightful from the point of view of the reader.

Book Description
It was a lazy afternoon in April, 1995, when the unthinkable happened. Six- year-old John-Paul, the youngest son of Gregory and Maureen Floyd was playing in the front lawn with his brother David when both were struck by an out-of-control car. Rushed to separate hospitals, David survived with bruises, but John-Paul died instantly. In A Grief Unveiled, Floyd reveals his heart-breaking journey through the sorrow of losing a young child, as he deals not only with his own broken heart, but also with the struggle to reconstruct his role as husband, father, and protector. With rare candor, Floyd captures the almost indescribable moments of pain as well as the palpable moments of grace as he openly shares his struggle with the theological why's and the personal emotions that question the goodness of God. This book is a witness to the intimate presence of God in the midst of unbearable lossoffering hope to all who struggle.

ULTIMATELY EXTRA-ORDINARY .......2007-05-11
We just lost our 13 year old daughter suddenly almost eight weeks ago today. Still awaiting to hear from the medical examiner what caused her untimely death. She collapsed after a snow shoe trek at Environmental Camp in the White Mountains of NH.
I have bought a number of books during these painful weeks, and this book was the only book that I felt I could have written - at least the first few chapters. It was like what we experienced was written down and black and white. He describes everything perfectly.
I loved the book because it gave me great comfort that we WILL feel joy one day ... we don't know, nor can we even begin to think we will ever feel joy again.
One of my favorite lines in the book was ...
Our friends brought us God's presence and love. They did not solve our problems, as if grief we a problem to be solved. They did not dispense pious phrases. Our friends allowed us to be in as much pain as we were in and did not trivialize it by trying to move us beyond it ....
Our friends, family, community, were a blessing from God during the darkest days of our lives and they continue to be. This book is such a comfort to anyone who has lost anyone ... or even more importantly for people who want to know how to help people like us who belong to this `club' ... it is a win/win for anyone reading it. I read it in two days!!!
It happened to us.......2006-05-18
The specific circumstances of our son's death and his age were different than Mr. Floyd's child. The feelings and the pain were not. These events test you and your relationship with God as Mr. Floyd writes and he is on the mark.
I have bought this book for others, who have lost a child or loved one.
HEALING .......2005-10-25
This book brought healing to me that I could not imagine would ever come. I pray blessings over Mr. Lloyd and his family for being so honest and open about his son's death. I lost my 11 month old son to a very rare infection in July 1999. This was a very sudden death, as we found him dead in his crib. I highlighted and still read over this book and each time, I am healed even more. THANK YOU, THANK YOU Mr. Lloyd for teaching me that it's o.k. to be brutally honest before God- you showed me that that is when the healing truly comes. Everyone should read this book.
A Grace Revealed.......2003-09-26
This book is the attempt of one father to come to terms with the anguish, the heart-break, the devastation, and the questions that arise when tragedy strikes. Others books have attempted the same. The great English apologist C.S. Lewis wrote a book entitled The Problem of Pain, exploring these difficult questions. It is interesting to compare it with a book he wrote later, after his wife died of cancer. His A Grief Observed does not so much refute what he wrote earlier, but in many ways goes far beyond it.
A theoretical and theological reflection of suffering is one thing. A first-hand personal account is another. A Grief Unveiled is of the second type. Not that theological and biblical reflection is absent. But this is the very personal and very moving account of how one father copes with the worst pain imaginable, moments after the event, hours after, days after, months after, and years after. What does the journey of grief look like from the inside? This volume is an unforgettable account of one long and painful trip through grief.
For anyone who has experienced any comparable tragedy, the book will echo similar thoughts and emotions, and will bring forth many tears. The book does not over-sentimentalize, but neither does it over-spiritualize. It is brutally honest and totally real.
Anyone who suffers will resonate with these moving chapters. Yet it is not just a book about sorrow, grief and pain. It is also a book about hope, joy and victory. It is the story of a radiant faith; a faith that takes a terrible hammering, but a faith the survives and grows and triumphs. But it is triumphant faith because it has as its object a triumphant God. Indeed, God is the real subject of this book in many ways. It is only because of the great love, grace and mercy of God that the Floyds can make it through the valley of the shadow of death.
The opening chapters are the most painful. Descriptions of the accident. Cradling a dying boy. The nervous wait at the hospital. The bad news from the doctor. Watching a lifeless boy in a casket, bandages over the eyes, because the organs were donated. The burial. The days immediately thereafter.
The grief seems unbearable. But with time comes some relief. The hole in the soul is always there. It will never disappear. But the intense pain and grief slowly, and surely, begin to subside. And through it all, one believer's relationship with his God is sorely tested, but in the end, vindicated. And with it comes the spiritual understanding that comes with the suffering, the realization that the God we serve is a suffering God.
God the Father knows all about suffering. He too lost a son in tragic circumstances. And Mary, the mother of Jesus, also knows the heartbreak of losing a beloved son. But as Floyd makes quite clear, Good Friday is followed by Easter Sunday. John-Paul is not dead, but alive, waiting for the glorious reunion that will one day take place. The promise of the resurrection is the believer's hope. And the resurrection of Jesus is the guarantee that we too will one day be raised.
But it works both ways, There can be no Easter without Calvary. Suffering is the path chosen by Christ, and it is the path his followers must also accept. The hard questions may never fully be answered. But the ultimate answer to the problem of suffering and evil is not a proposition but a person. Jesus, who is acquainted with grief and familiar with sorrow, is the only one who can offer comfort and hope to those who suffer.
If God can take the most horrible and painful event in human history, the cross, and turn it into the most glorious and blessed of events, then there is hope for us as well. Suffering can be redeemed. It can make us more like the one who knows all about suffering.
This book is a testament to the way the death of one man two thousand years ago becomes the basis of hope for everyone today. This powerful story will help those who are suffering to make it through. And it will help all of us to get our priorities a little more straight, and help us refocus our attention on what is truly important and of value in life.
This book is, without a doubt, life changing........2002-10-24
There are no words to describe what an amazing book this is. I read this book when I began my journey down the road of grief and healing over my dad's death. I wept. I laughed. Sometimes at the same time, but God ministered to me through the openeness of this family. They allow you into such a private, intimate time and let you see that you can grieve with hope. There is no doubt that you will be blessed by their courage, strength, faith, and unending devotion to the Lord. May God bless them for their willingness to be used by him in such a vulnerable way.

"India [Not Entirely] Unveiled".......2007-10-03
As an American husband to an Indian wife, I could at least appreciate Mr. Arnett's glowing comments about the Hindu ideal of marriage (of which I am a happy beneficiary). But it is an ideal. In fact, Mr. Arnett in his texts continuously touts the very noble ideals born of Hinduism -- a religion he obviously loves -- yet fails to observe their breakdowns in the reality of Inidan life. He does speak somewhat about the abuses of the dowry and caste systems; otherwise, he simply glosses over or fails to mention entirely such problems as communal violence between castes and religions, bride-burning, sati, gang rapes, prostitution and child-trafficking, the rampant materialism that has sprung up since India privatized its economy around 1990, persistent problems of poverty, didease, pollution, the ugly side of Hindu nationalism....I could go on. Where he does briefly mention some of these problems, he devotes about a clause to them and goes ahead with an apology that rates a whole paragraph or two. All nations are flawed, of course, but one would never glean India's flaws from this book.
I love India too, but this book is for India lovers with stars in their eyes. Arnett says he drank the water without ever getting sick thanks to answered prayer; I drank the water there for three months, never got sick, never said a prayer.
The photographs lack clarity and brilliance to me, but they are good, often of splendid subjects. I will say, I did miss India when I read this book, and he does give simple but edifying explications of certain Hindu philosophies.
A love poem this may be, an inspiring, somewhat blind one, but not a true and balanced picture of India.
Not Real India, Not Whole India.......2007-09-22
I was very disappointed in the otherwise colorful book because it did not address the real India nor it shows the whole India. In fact, without discussing substance, the book has left out the entrire North East India comprising the seven states, namely the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura, the so called the Seven Sisters which is physically the most beautiful and culturally most colorful part of India. So I would suggest that when Mr. Robert Arnett visits India next time, he would kindly take the time to visit the Seven Sisters and unveil the beautiful North East India and complete the book showing more real stuff in India.
an adventure for the senses.......2007-05-14
gives you a true sense of what it would be like to live in India
India's Spirituality Unveiled.......2007-05-02
I was somewhat disappointed in this beautiful book. I had hoped that it would "unveil" more different aspects of the country along with the various religious traditions and sites. A closer reading of some of the reviews would have tipped me off that Mr. Arnett, a devoutly religious person himself, chose to focus on that aspect of India. Several reviewers remarked that he "unveils" the culture, but he either skips lightly over the nonreligious aspects of culture or else interprets them through a very religious perspective. What you get is something like if a fervent evangelical Christian had made a guide to the U.S. Non-evangelicals would find themselves annoyed by the predominance of attention given to Christian religious sites and interpretations!
To Mr. Arnett's credit, he attempted to be evenhanded in his treatment of the various Indian religious traditions including Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Sikhism, and even traditional Indian Christianity. There were also some passing attempts at addressing Indian cultural practices such as untouchability, sati or widow-suicide, increasing contemporary materialism, and family life. What you get on these topics is Arnett's individual justifying apologetic--an attempt to put the practices into the framework of his personal understanding.
If you purchase the book, be aware that Mr. Arnett is a true believer in the spiritual realm behind the amazing temples and pilgrimage sites of India. His comments often emphasize the "emanations", "spiritual vibrations", and other spiritual manifestations he sensed at many of the sites. One example is a supernatural healing of stomach pains he believes to have received at a Roman Catholic church in Tamil Nadu.
Arnett is in love with India, and further, he is in love with the idea of Hinduism, and further yet, he is in love with the idea of Indian spirituality becoming much more influential in the world and transforming it. He's not "objective" or "scientific" in the Western sense about any of this, but heartfelt in the extreme, a Hindu "evangelical".
If that sounds like what you want, you will likely not be disappointed in this attractive book.
NOTHING SPECIAL.......2007-04-05
Being a lover of India and a photographer (and having travelled all over the country) I have collected over the years a great number of wonderful photographic books about this most photogenic of countries. I decided to add INDIA UNVEILED to my collection, simply because of the raving reviews. I have to say that I was disappointed. The text is well written, no doubt, and gives a good general overview of the different regions and highlights of the country, but most of the photos are rather mediocre. Apart from some beautiful exceptions, they are simply too ordinary (or should I say boring?) compared to the stunning work that you can see in other books. Any tourist with no special photographic skills could have made similar pictures! There is no imagination, no artistic approach, and no photographic "eye" in most photos. Moreover, many of them are very blurred, dark, and lack clarity.
If you wish to check out some absolutely superb photo books on India, I would strongly recommend INDIA OF ONE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS, and MIRROR OF INDIA, (both by Roland and Sabrina Michaud, and rather difficult to come across nowdays), ETERNAL INDIA (by Gianni and Tiziana Baldizzone, who also made the superb INDIA OF THE FORGOTTEN TRIBES), SOUTH SOUTEAST (by the National Geographic photographer Steve Mc Curry), INDIA (by Olivier Follmi), and of course any book by the great Raghubir Singh (titles include RAJASTHAN, KASHMIR, THE GANGES, BANARAS, and KERALA).
