A veritable gem.......2007-05-20

I am an avid fan of this series. Haven't read all of them yet but I'm working on it. I liked every single one that I have read so far but I must say I enjoyed this one more than most of the others. Maybe it's the katharsis of the main character when she finally visualises her past or maybe because the villain is another woman, or maybe because I enjoy the banter between characters. All in all I think it's up there with "Naked" the one that launched them all.

Not original, but still great..........2007-03-22

While the plot itself might not be an original idea, the spin Eve Dallas et al place on this story makes it 100 percent their own.

When a criminal from Eve's past is released, a showdown between the two former enemies is all but certain. Will Roarke be injured in the ensuing battle? Who will the killer harm to get Eve's attention? How badly does she want revenge?

We all know Eve isn't going to hide. She's not even willing to "play it safe." Typical to Eve Dallas, she meets this challenge head-on in a clash that will leave readers VERY satisfied.

Great hardcover!.......2006-12-27

The "in Death" books were published in paperback here until recently... I was able to find a seller in England who provided me with many of the older books in the series in hardcover, and was excited to find this one.

Great Eve Dallas book - I have almost all of them, and love them!

Tone down the Eve Dallas butt-kissing.......2006-11-29

I'm giving the book five stars, because it's good despite a few problems.

Julianna Dunne was a fascinating villainess. What makes her fascinating is she actually seduced her stepfather and cried rape to gain sympathy, which is rather ironic as the author is constantly using the fact Eve's father did rape her to gain sympathy for the character. Thankfully, the author also breathed some new life in the tired dream of the red room and the blood that's been shoved down the viewer's throat for the last 12 or 13 books.

Julianna's has returned to wreak revenge on Eve and she's decided the way to pay her back for sending her to prison is to kill Eve's husband, Roarke. I wish they would have taken it to the mat in regards to Roarke being in danger, since Eve saw the instant Julianna tried to give Roarke a poison glass of champagne, so you didn't really feel Roarke's life was ever really that much in jeopardy.

There was also a nice little side mystery of a cold case involving the murder of Marsha Stibbs. I applauded Eve when the ever-annoying Peabody felt sorry for the woman who killed her so she could have her husband and Eve rightfully said the one she should feel sorry for is Marsha Tibbs.

The bad parts of the book regard the inappropriately creepy Dr. Mira and the bootlicking Peabody. I don't know where the author is trying to go with the Eve/Mira relationship, but it doesn't work and she comes off desperate to form some kind of bond with a woman who just isn't that into her. She was practically begging Eve to take her with her when she went to Dallas declaring she could make it all better for her if she did. Eve, however, wanted Roarke with her, as he's the one she's able to open up to about her past. Then Mira went over a bugged Roarke to see how he was feeling. I really think the Mira character needs to be drop-kicked from the series, because she really doesn't work in the capacity the author is trying to go for. As for Peabody, the only thing that makes her tolerable is her relationship with McNabb. She started mouthing off to Roarke in defense of her idol, when he was allowing her equally annoying parents to stay in his house, and if she'd done the same with Eve, she would have been kissing her butt and begging forgiveness, but she never offered one word of apology to Roarke for her behavior. Of course the most nauseating Peabody moment of all was declaring to Eve, "You're my god."

To be frank, with the exception of Summerset, all the characters at one time or another have to worship at the shrine of Eve Dallas. Roarke gets away with it, because unlike the others, he'll also only put up with so much of Eve's crap before he gets fed up and tells her off. To the others Eve Dallas is their own little tin god who they genuflect to on a regular basis.

As a reader, I'd prefer to make up my own mind about Eve, and not have all the characters telling me she's the next best thing to sliced bread.

Still, Julianna, Roarke and Eve make this book a great read. Buy it for them and just skimmed through the butt-kissing when it gets too deep.

Definitely on the Top of My In Death Favorite List.......2005-08-10

It is so hard not to have ALL of the books at the top of the "favorite" list since each story is just as good, if not better, than the last. "Reunion" brings back a case Eve had closed more than 10 years ago, however, the system failed and allowed this cold killer, Julianna Dunne, to be released from prison. Julianna attacks her victims with cyanide and is a champ at disguise. She is cold and callus and out to get her revenge on Eve (for being the cop who locked her up the first time) in the worst possible way - by killing Roarke. The story is written very well (the scene in Dallas in heart wrenching) and I particularly enjoyed the comic relief with Eve putting up a big fight about medical care and an even bigger one when Roarke infringes on her territory at Cop Central. That situation was very well played out (I had read some negative reviews on the way Nora handled this, however, I do believe Roarke saw the error of his ways and more than made up for it by the end of the story). This book also celebrates Eve and Roarke's first wedding anniversary in a way that brought tears to my eyes. Any story that can touch you that deeply, is definitely well written. Also, I couldn't conclude my review without acknowledging the supporting characters as well. They always add to the excitement, suspense and romance and the series would be nothing without them.

A Ghostly Good Read!!.......2007-03-08

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has lots of great details. When Susannah found out about this murder, she just had to investigate it. With the help of Father Dom and Jesse she finally got the killer but was put into hospital. It would help if you read the first two books or else you will get really confused with all the names and places. This book has lots of twists and turns and will keep you reading. You won't want to put it down!

OMG! what a GREAT book!!!!!.......2007-02-11

whoa!! this book is SO amazing! it's about this girl, suze, and her supposed boyfriend, michael meducci, and he could be a possible killer of the RLS angels! he has had a grudge against them and only for one reason that he could be able to kill them; jealousy! jesse and father dominic have helped out quite a bit but not enough that suze ends up in the hospital! i HIGHLY recommend this book! and i cannot wait to read the next one!!!!

The Mediator 3: Reunion is about Suze Simon, a fifteen-year-old girl with a very special gift, she can speak to those beyond the grave. Awesome, right? Wrong. Ghosts aren't always the most cooperative people. So, when Suze tries to help four teenage ghosts that were in a car accident, they aren't very thankful, unless you'd say that trying to kill her is a proper "thank you". However, Suze will find out some secrets about someone she never thought would keep them from her and that this car accident might not have been an accident at all.
This book teaches readers always to be happy with who they are. Suze has to try to accept that she is a mediator and has to adapt to being haunted every day of her life. She's spunky and her attitude is as unpredictable as the weather but she's also very generous and always willing to help. It really shows people how we take everyday things for granted.
Meg Cabot does an extraordinary job with this book with a perfect balance of mystery, teen troubles, and family issues. It takes you deep into Suze's life and feelings. I couldn't pry my fingers off of it. The Mediator is an amazing series and I've read most of them, but this one was by far my favorite. So, if you like suspense and surprises, you'll love The Mediator 3: Reunion.

This book was interesting to me and usually I don't read books like this but it is appealing. I like the characters and the style of writing that meg cabot uses. But I just didn't like the way the ending turned out but I still want to read the rest of the series.

Eek! When I originally got this book, I assumed it would be a sequel to Dr. Moody's excellent first book, Life After Life, only this time, instead of concentrating on all aspects of the near-death experience, he was going to focus on the part of the NDE where the person who has died meets their loved ones or a loving religious figure after traversing the tunnel.

But no, this book is not about the experience of meeting with loved ones after dying . . . and then being brought back to life with modern technology to tell all the rest of us who haven't had a near-death-experience about meeting those loved ones. No! This book is about meeting with those who have passed on without having to go through the messy difficult-to-control-business of a near-death-experience.

Exactly! It's a book about meeting with the dead! Dr. Moody has invented a method of contacting our dearly departed by gazing into a mirror, a procedure he calls facilitated apparitions.

Sounds very ouija board to me. But didn't Nostradamus see into the future by gazing into a mirror?

In any case, mirror gazing was a bit on the spooky side for me. I think I'd rather learn how to understand my dreams because those who have passed on often contact us while we're out of out bodies while dreaming. Or while meditating. Anyway, it's happened to me.

On the other hand, Dr. Moody assures us that contacting the dearly departed helps us to not only assuage our grief over their passing, but also helps us to deal with our own fears of death. He also believes that mirror gazing can put us in touch with that intriguing part of our minds known as the unconscious from which pours our creative abilities. He insists that such creative giants as Thomas Edison, Charles Dickens, and Rene Descartes (I think, therefore I am) used similar techniques to plumb the treasures in their own unconscious minds. There's also the ability for researchers, such as Dr. Moody, to control such a spontaneous paranormal experience as seeing a ghost. Finally, he assures us that mirror gazing has been used by humans throughout time and that it can make accessible to all of us the fascinating world of the supernatural.

Come to think of it, I'd love to contact the Virgin Mary without having to travel half-way around the world to see her--see my book, Blessed, for the story.

OK, I have a deep respect for Dr. Moody and feel grateful for his wonderful work with near-death experiences. I trust him. Life After Life did so much to assure me of my own immortality. Maybe one of these days, I'll work up the nerve to create my own "psychomanteum."

visionary encounters with departed loved ones.......2005-09-10

I was disappointed with Dr Moody's work in this book. I found that he was departing from his usual scientific approach and perspective to something more like a sci-fi description of events that may have been nothing at all to begin with. For readers interested in the topic, I would instead recommend Hello from Heaven.

Calling Forth Visions.......2005-02-12

This must be the third time that I've read this remarkable book since its first publication. Every time I've read it, I have been compelled to read it cover to cover as soon as possible. It is difficult to put down- for so much else that I might be occupied with seems trivial by comparison.

Essentially this is a book on calling up waking visions. To do so is to tap into our unconscious minds while still awake. The remarkable part is the claim that this can be done on a predictable, controllable basis that might even provide the rigid standards of repeatability required for traditional laboratory study. Of course I find this concession to science less significant than the fact that it actually works. This is demonstrated by multiple brief case studies conducted by the author- as well as detailed instructions on how to repeat the results on your own. Indeed an alternate title to this book could have been "A How to Guide to Building and Operating your own Psychomanteum." That's a refreshing attitude, that the innate ability to delve into our unconscious lies within all of us without the need of a mediator....

One of the primary motivations for seeking such visions is evidence that we survive death. In this regard apparitions of the deceased (whether spontaneous or incubated) rank with near death experiences and shamanic voyages. They all provide access to the Middle Realm.

Other than the motivation to contact the dead to personally confirm the survival of the personality, it may provide several other incredibly useful functions. Such controlled visions could greatly accelerate the speed, and increase the effectiveness, of psychotherapy. Of course the value of actually contacting deceased loved ones is obvious in grief consoling. Beyond this, since such visions have been known to transcend time (as well as space) there could be application to historical research. The author also points out that an incredible amount of our mythological and literary heritage seems to be the gift of such visions. Indeed, Plato's parable of the cave may very well parody the operation of the great psychomanteum at Ephyra.

My only question is why this book, and the "Theater of the Mind", has not generated greater popular or scholarly interest?

Surprisingly Informative!.......2004-12-15

I bought this book sight unseen, on the strength of one of Raymond Moody's previous books that I had read and loved, many years ago, Life After Life. I was hoping for more of the same, and was quite surprised to find that this book is not at all about reincarnation, but about mirror-gazing. This was not something I was initially interested in, but having liked his previous book so much, and having paid for this book, I decided to persevere. I'm glad I did. It was a very worthwhile read.

Being new to this subject, I knew absolutely nothing about it before. More than half of the book is devoted to the HISTORY of mirror gazing in various cultures, throughout time. I didn't even know that there had been a history. One of the most fascinating parts was reading all about the ancient Greek oracles, and how they had worked. I had heard of the Oracles, but previously just imagined they had some kind of fortune-teller. Actually, it was quite complicated. People consulting the Oracles had to undergo a month of preparation, in near total darkness. Then there was a huge, underground metal mirror that they were taken to consult, in which they then had visions. Moody and his wife visited the remains of one of the Oracles, and he describes his trip there, and how he was able to find all the various parts of the oracle chambers.

Moody describes how mirror gazing was a well-accepted diversion during the Middle Ages, and before, in almost every culture, and how it went out with the rise of science, especially after 1900. Even the American Indians had a form of mirror gazing which they practiced. Different cultures had different ways of gazing to try to conjure spirits, including looking into water, looking at shiny silver cups or mugs, and gazing into crystal balls (mentioned only briefly).

The most fascinating historical information was a description of how the Xhosa (pronounded Khosa) people of South Africa, in 1856, after fighting many unsuccessful battles with the British, gazed into the river, and saw the spiritis of six dead ancestors. These ancestors convinced the whole tribe that if they would sacrifice all of their cattle to the ancestors, that the ancestors would come back to life, and lead them to a victory over the British. I asked someone I know from South Africa if they had ever heard of this, and they had not, but they suggested to me that I check on the internet. I did, and found MANY references to The Great Cattle Killing of 1856-1857, in which because of the visions seen in the river, they killed ALL of their cattle, AND did not plant their crops. Apparently, the British even tried to stop them. However, they didn't listen, and the subsequent year, 20,000 Xhosa starved to death.

After aquainting the reader with the complete history of mirror gazing, Moody tries to research the practice scientifically. He builds a chamber in which to mirror gaze, following the same methods he has researched from historical cultures. He chooses a number of people, who fit certain criteria-such as being professional, well-balanced, no belief in metaphysics, and lastly, having a relative or friend who has died that they would like to see again, if it were possible. He then has them follow a preparation procedure similar to what the ancients did-although he devised his chamber and preparation from a melange of historical research, synthesizing his own ritual to experiment with. Before he started, he was expecting a very low success ratio, if any success at all. To his surprise, about 50 percent of the subjects reported communication. A number of interesting case histories are included in the book.

Lastly, he gives the reader good directions, and suggestions, as to how they can pursue mirror gazing, if they are interested in trying it on their own.

I would not recommend this book to the average reader. However, if you are interested in mirror-gazing, or a person of a very open scientific mind, this book will interest you. I think Moody has done a careful, scientific study, and presented his findings.

How to communicate with your departed loved ones!.......2003-10-18

This is a fascinating book! I could hardly put it down. It describes the use of mirror-gazing to reunite with loved ones who have crossed to "The Other Side." Not only how to do it, but examples of others who have visited with their departed loved ones, and historical references. At times it is repetitive, but well worth reading. Highly-recommended.

Weak multicultural message, no storyline.......2003-08-21

I like children's books that have storylines, and this doesn't. Nothing happens except Hope's family gathers for a dinner, and Hope briefly describes what each person brings. It isn't very interesting, and while food could be a great way to discuss how two families come together, especially families from different racial groups, the opportunity is completely missed. A cousin comments that Hope's food contribution is different, "but so is she," apparently a reference to her being biracial. But none of the characters, including Hope, notice what he says, and the comment comes and goes without a ripple.

Now, if the author had had both families eating together and one had brought collard greens and the other brought pierogies, if the other family members were hesitant about the unfamiliar foods but Hope, the bridge between the two, showed them the way, or if the families simply enjoyed the feast, having already accepted and enjoyed their differences, or if anyone had commented on what the cousin meant.... if any of those things had happened in this book, then I'd have a different review. If you are looking for a message about family and food, there are many other books. If you are looking for a book about multiracial families, the author's earlier book "Hope" is much better.

A little girl named Hope visited her Aunt Poogee house. She goes every summer right before school opens back. She loves visiting her Aunt Poogee's because there is always something to do. One summer one of her Aunt's friends asked "Is this child mixed." Hope heard it and wondered what she meant. Later on she couldn't think about anything but what her Aunt's friend said about her.

Hope is a great book that teach young children that they are special no matter what they look like. This book is fantastic and will keep readers wondering what the author will write next.
