not bad.......2007-06-19
The book is good because it's a story about Sam Fisher and the story is pretty original for a spy novel. I liked it.
Who doesn't like Sam Fisher!.......2007-05-14
I picked this book up a while ago, along with every other book in the series. I have to say that this book had the same feel to it that all of the video games had to it. I enjoyed the action scenes in the book as well as Sam Fishers dry sense of humor. Although the plot twists to the novel were predictable, it was fun to read. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the Splinter Cell video games.
I would also like to add that his novel is not written by Tom Clancy, and neither are any of the books in this series written by Tom Clancy.
splinter cell .......2007-04-18
My book review is about SPLINTER CELL. It takes place in China, Washington D.C London, Las Vegas, Iraq, and other places in the world. The author of this book is my favorite author Tom Clancy. Tom Clancy wrote many other books and he also made videogames. At the beginning of the book it says Sam fisher works alone but he fights for all of us.
When the story startes Sam Fisher is in China and he is looking at his OPSAT to find out what his objective is. He is eating his MREs. His objective is to observe the KGB in a casino. He has been living in China for one year. The rest is for you to find out.
My favorite part is all of it. I like the entire book the whole book is my favorite part.
I recommend this book to people who like action books and the game. Reading this book really helps with the game. It is a good book to read.
splinter cell.......2007-03-25
the book has all the thrills and action any reader could want.It grabs in the begining and never lets go
Scott's Super Review.......2007-01-24
American spy Sam Fisher tries to save parts of the world in David Michael's Splinter Cell.
Sam Fisher is part of the Third Echelon, a top secret spy agency. If he is caught, his existence will be denied by the U.S. government. His mission: well, we don't know yet. But whatever it is, he will be the right man for the job. He is brave, courageous, and very tough.
Sam is sent on a mission to track down the Shop, a big player on the black market. He has no leads whatsoever and starts from scratch. Along the way he runs into Namik Basaran, a terrorist expert. But Basaran is not who people think he is. Little does Sam know that they will come together in the end of this fast paced thriller. There are different chapters where you are in the head of the Shop's, Basaran and Sarah
While Sam is tracking the shop, Sarah, Sam's daughter, is going to Israel with her friend Rivka. She is going with her boyfriend Eli and Rivka's boyfriend Noel. She doesn't know yet, but she has been set up.
This is a great book for mystery fans. It will also appeal to older readers because the main character, Sam, is forty-seven years old. But older people may not like it because it contains many futuristic weapons that they might not like if they prefer more realistic books. The same reason means that it is not well suited for younger readers because it contains sex content in the chapters. But, overall, it is a good book for people eleven and up. For fast paced thriller fans, this is the book for you.

Just love Splinter Cell...........2007-07-20
I am a big fan of Splinter Cell. I have all the xbox games, so I decided to buy the books to see if there were any differences. I think I love the book just as much as I do the games.
So if you are a Splinter Cell fan, I highly recommend reading the books too. They will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page.
Get it!.......2007-03-10
If you like TC novels then this is a great book to have.
Love the character, but get a lobotomy before reading.......2006-12-29
I have played all of the Splinter Cell video games and I enjoy the series very much. I bought the third book, Checkmate, in an airport with fairly low expectations. It was well written enough, particularly because I like the genre and the Sam Fisher character. I read the reviews for the first two books and I ignored the bad ones. I cannot believe that these books made it to print. The writing appears to have been done by a high school student or a non-native english speaker. There obviously was no editor assigned to the project. I lost count of the number of times words were used incorrectly or gratuitously.(My favorite, is when a "hidden surveillance team" was inserted -- as opposed to what, a "visible" surveillance team?) Worst of all, in these books Sam Fisher is a total moron. I won't put spoilers in here, but there are instances where someone is very obviously bad or try to kill Sam and after it would be paintfully obvious to anyone, he would say "I'm beginning to get the feeling that they are aiming for me" or "I'm starting to think this guy might be not be on our side". At the end of one of the books, he does something so stupid and amateurish that you won't believe it. And, if only a handful of people know about Third Echelon, why do I lose count of the number of people who know? Perhaps it is my ignorance, but do covert operatives take Army flights out of Dulles? Wouldn't he know he needed the access code in the many hours before he got to the facility he was infilitrating? If the facility was abandoned, why would they send him and not the FBI? These books have more holes than swiss cheese. My wife couldn't believe that insisted on finishing the books, but I was invested and wanted to know the resolution. Perhaps the practice of writing made the third one better or maybe they found an editor. But owners of the first two books should be issued a refund.
Need new antagonist.......2006-12-27
Second installment of Splinter Cell series. Has more character development but still quick interesting read. Should stop picking on Middle East countries and find another target to demonize...
Amazing Book!.......2006-12-20
This book was simply amazing. Most people say that you have to read the first one in order to understand this one, but really, there's nothing from the first book that occurs in the second book. It's basically about Sam's new missions and what he's doing now. There is no back track, just to clerify it. The book is about Sam chasing down Russian terrorists wanting to nuke L.A., but thats all you need to know with giving it away...
I love how detailed this book is about Sam's life in and outside of his job. He has a hard time getting close to people because he is reluctant about spilling his secret of being a NSA agent. His gadgets are SOO AWESOME. They are everything from a super futuristic gun down to his Five-seveN pistol. I actually haven't read the other books but I was so into this book that I am planning on getting them all in including the one that just came out. I hated to read until I found this book. It's really one of those "can't put down" books and hearing it from me is a BIG DEAL. For some of you though, it might not be the book for you because you have to be interested in spying and yes, there is some killing in here too,(you didn't expect a guy with guns not to kill anyone did you?).
The only problem I had with this book is that the author really went back and forth between Sam and the bad guys WAY too much. One chapter would be Sam on a mission and the next one would be the Russians. There were just too many point of views going around and I had a hard time keeping up with it some of the time. Otherwise I really reccommend this book and even if you're not interested in the stuff I just said I think you should still give it a shot. There are also a games of
Splinter Cell :Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory and Double Agent. (I have all of them). I hope you find this helpful and if you read it, I hope you enjoy!

Its a good book but lots of errors.......2007-08-13
I enjoyed all the Splinter Cell books so far, however this book was very disappointing in terms of grammar and spelling errors. I'm only on chapter 11 and it seems as if the author lost the time line in the book. To me it seems he just wrote the book and never re-read it or had one to many drinks while writing this book. I would give it a 5 star but with the grammar errors were just to much from a person who writes so much.I hope the next book coming out in Nov. 2007 Will be much better.
Decent, but problems.......2007-07-18
Written in the Tom Clancey style and, while intriguing, there were numerous typos, double words, missing words, etc. Fairly disappointing from that perspective.
Amazing Book.......2007-07-03
This book is filled with non-stop action. One of the most fun books I have ever read. David Michael's writing style is a little more youthful than Tom Clancy. It's an easy reading book. This book (checkmate) was the best of the 3 Splinter Cell books.
Just to assuage some of the "cons" about this title..........2007-06-30
1. In previous reviews it was mentioned that Raymond Benson was the "David Michaels" for this novel, which is not true. The current author's real name is unknown.
2. As to the typos and grammar, the author was only given 2 1/2 months to complete this novel! I'd love to see you put one this large out in that short a period without errors. Basically the author didn't have sufficient time to proof read it.
3. I blame the short deadline by the publishers for the lack of proper proof reading, perhaps they were under pressure to release it within a short time frame. In my opinion, it would have been better served to delay it and correct the errors, but in spite of all this the novel still comes across with the excitement and depth that we fans of the series love.
4. All-in-all this novel is well worth reading, in spite of the many errors!
Great Book.......2007-04-10
This was a fantastic book with nonstop action. Though this is the first Splinter Cell book I've read, I can't wait to read the others. I also noticed all of the errors in spelling, grammer, etc... It was unbelieveable!
The Bottom Line: This is a must read for fans of Tom Clancy, thrillers, action, or espionage.

Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory.......2006-03-17
All in all not a bad strategy guide. Walk-through is clear and will get you through the levels with ease. It gives you options on how to play your game either through stealth or kill everybody in sight. All objectives are given to you and where you can find them. The walk-through pictures suggesting where you should position yourself are a little dark. They could of been a little brighter.
Okay but Lacking Detail.......2006-02-22
For someone who hasn't played the game before, this book is a good one to help you get through it the first time. It gives some good basic pointers and discusses the weaponry and basic tactics. It is really more of a walk-through for first time players.
For anyone who wants a score of 100%, forget the book. It became quickly obvious that the author(s) didn't look past the obvious in each scenario. I found many ways in the stealth mode of avoiding bad guys altogether instead of knocking them all out or killing them (you lose 2% on your score per kill). Obvious ways around the map and ways of avoiding contact with the enemy (and resulting alarms or being spotted) aren't mentioned. Some situations have a very easy way out, but the author(s) didn't mention that - obviously because they didn't sit down at the game and try out all the possibilities.
The worst part of the book is the map section. There is no attempt to connect the various two-dimensional maps into the third dimension so you know, for instance, what ventilator shafts go where on different floors of a multi-level building. The map section was the primary reason for me getting the book and I was very disappointed. It wasn't as thorough as other Prima books I have purchased in the past.
Again, for someone just starting in the game, it is a great book to keep you from getting lost or frustrated. It provides you a way to complete the level. But after you use the book, play again and again, exploring other avenues of completing the scenarios. Do a quick save, then incapacitate all the bad guys in the area so you can explore it in detail. Then you can reload the quick save and move on. Every area has multiple ways of getting through them - some overt, some covert. Some are hard to find in the heat of battle or while hiding. That's where incapacitating, then exploring comes into play.
Chaos Theory is a great game. This book just doesn't do the game justice in my opinion.
As phenomenal as it was practical.......2005-05-01
Whenever Prima gets its hands around a project, it really gets its hands around a project. By looking through the guide you can get an accurate feel for what the game actually looks like. There are plenty of maps and screen shots to help guide you--not only through the game, but on whether the game is worth buying in the first place. I always check out a PRIMA guide before buying a game. So many of today's strategy guides are filled with empty swatches of page, or else LAME clip art. Just show me the game!
It really seemed like the designers of this guide put in the extra effort too. There are helpful tips and comments throughout. Nothing was left to chance. Visually stunning and magnificent.
Now I know why I don't buy these things..........2005-04-25
...on a regular basis. After each mission, you get rated, one might think that a strategy guide would not only show you all the ins and outs, of a mission, but also how to get the 100% rating for it. There was sadly, very little useful information in this book. The maps and locations of things are nice, but that's pretty much where you have to put the book down and play the game on your own.
The book is setup for all the platforms that SC-CT appears on, but what the writers didn't take into account is how the game differs on each platform. Whoever wrote it, didn't play it on the Xbox, because the things he writes about, don't work in a normal setting. For instance, they never mention that the ambient sound levels drop as you progress in difficulty. Or they promote the use of your lethal attacks when that hurts your score. Not that it even gives good strategic advice there. When it mentions the cargo ship, it tells you to knock out the second of two guards in a hallway, and when the first guard turns around to see what's going on, you have a moment to shoot him. It never mentions that you could just shoot out the three lights in that area and silently grab each guard while they are standing around in the dark with no flares.
There are so many different paths in every mission, it is hard to cover them all. There are also a lot of things in each mission that don't change. For instance, it's always better to capture a guard and interrogate him, rather than sniping him from some distance off. Either hack everything you can or get a guard to open it for you.
Splinter Cell has always been a detail oriented game, lots of little things to pay attention to. To get the most enjoyment and playability out of this game, you can't go through any of the missions with your guns blazing. I only bought this because I was hoping to find out how to finish the Bathouse mission with 100%, and it didn't even help me do that.
A Bona Fide Work of Art.......2005-04-18
I have used a lot of strategy guides for video games. Mostly, it is a strictly utilitarian venture.
I have to say, though, the design of this book BLEW ME AWAY. It is AWESOME! It accomplishes its utlitarian purpose with flying colors, thanks to the excellent writing. Even in that context, the layout and the design were phenomenal. I really don't think I've ever seen a more well-designed strategy guide, EVER!
This book is so amazing, I would recommend it to people who aren't even going to play the game. It is really that good. The design transports you to another world. I am going to be especially mindful of Prima Guides into the future. They have won my loyalty with this book.

A good guide........2007-01-05
This guide is a good one. As a casual comment, it isn't the easiest to follow, but then again the game isn't supposed to be too easy either. I've seen better, but this one works.

SPLINTER CELL GUIDE BOOK.......2007-02-15
EXCELLENT PRODUCT AND A MUST HAVE FOR THOSE DIE HARD FANS OF TOM CLANCY. IT DEFINTELY HELPED ME OUT TO CONTINUE WITH THE GAME.
DO NOT BUY.......2004-03-30
This guide is racist against the PS2 version! Not only that, but I have played and beaten the XBOX version at a friends house, and uncovered that there are various picture faults and the text wording is somewhat poor. Not only that, but some directions for the XBOX version are wrong, several wrong for PS2 (DON'T tell me to look in the ps2 sidebar, because thats what I meant.) This may be the last prima guide I buy.
Dumbness.......2003-06-01
For those of you who do not have the time to work through this game, the guide is useful. But that also begs the question, "Why did you even buy the game in the first place?"...So instead of using the guide take your time.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!
While playing Splinter Cell I figured out some cheats.Hit the F2 key and then type HEALTH,AMMO or FLY. They do the obvious.
PS2 Claim a little misleading.......2003-04-19
NOTE: I have the PS2 version of the game, so I don't know how well this book works as a guide for Xbox and PC versions.
For the PS2 version, though, as a basic walkthrough, it is certainly better than nothing, but I still feel like I was misled when the book advertises itself as being for all 3 platforms (Xbox, PC, and PS2). When I got stuck on one part of the game, I consulted this book and still couldn't get through it. I accidentally flipped to the next page and then noticed what the book calls a "PS2 sidebar." At first, I thought it was something extra for the PS2 version until I looked closely and saw that it began at a point just before the part that I was stuck on. It turns out that a completely different strategy is necessary on PS2 for that part than on the other platforms. A note on the previous page that says something to the effect of "PS2 users: See side bar on next page for this part" would have been nice. That's an example of how the organization of the book is lacking.
PS2 owners do not buy.......2003-04-17
If you have the ps2 version of this game do not get this book unless you are absolutley lost. Even then, think twice. It is written for the xbox and pc versions of the game, and it includes sidebars for the ps2 versions. Plus, the pictures shown are only for the xbox and pc versions, which will confuse a lot of people. If you have the xbox or pc versions, I give this book five stars. PS2 version, only 2.
