5 out of 5 stars Great Adventure.......2007-08-18

This is a great twist for Dragonmark and non Dragonmark races alike. The four pc's I am running through it are loving it. The new encounter system is great. You don't need to lug around all your monster books, it has everything you need to know in the book itself. From tactics to different scenarios, depending on what the pc's do. This adventure will easily take characters from 5th to 9th. Keeps the pc's rockin with little down time.

5 out of 5 stars LENGTHY BUT VERY GOOD ADVENTURE.......2007-07-30

Eyes of the Lich Queen is a campaign/adventure book designed for the Eberron setting although with a little creativity and work, it can really be dropped into any fantasy campaign of your choosing if you do not play in Eberron. You'll require all of the standard books to play. The adventure is designed for four 5th level characters although five or six may be more reasonable. This is a good ol' fashioned quest adventure with the players seeking an artifact called The Dragon's Eye. The ancient artifact was created during the age of Demons and its said the Eye can give the holder total domination over dragons. The dragons are none to happy about someone finding the artifact that had been considered mere legend. They set out to find the Eye for safekeeping. Meanwhile, the lich queen Vol is dead set on finding the Eye for herself and has set her agents about finding the artifact.

The adventure is plated out over four parts and at 126 pages, is a fairly lengthy adventure, designed to take the player characters from 5th to 9th level by the time the campaign is finished. The journey will take the group over 5,000 miles in their travels although DM's are encouraged to give players a sense of the vast distances they are traveling without bogging them down with random encounters every step of the way. The designers are looking for an epic feel to their adventure, not a tedious one. The players will be drawn into their adventure with the promise of a great treasure, hired by a Silver Dragon named Sur'Kil, who will appear to them in the form of a middle-aged human.

The first target is the Temple of Kha'shazul, located in the jungles of Q'barra, and home to various tribes of Lizard Folk. Sur'Kil speaks only of ancient relics to be found within the temple but does not mention the Eye specifically. With the ancient temple is where the players will first hear mention of the Eye and, should they survive the temple, report their findings to Su'Kil. Sur'kil then sends the players on the path of another ancient artifact hunter who sought the Eye. Next up the players go island hopping, encounterin pirates, and eventually finding themselves at the prison fortress of Dreadhold, searching for an old gnome who has important symbols and notes tattooed into his skin that will lead the players to their next clue on the trail of the Dragon's Eye.

Like the other adventure books, Eyes of the Lich Queen presents the locations in full, and in brief overview, with the specifics of each encounter area coming after that. The thing I like most about the book is the sense of wonder and scope of the entire adventure. This isn't just a jungle crawl but a truly epic, world-spanning quest to exotic locations, cities, and yes, dungeon settings as well. There's also a strong sense of intrigue as well. The players are not only pitted against the creatures they encounter along the way, but also against the forces of the Lich Queen Vol and her deadly agents who believe the players may have already located the eye. Of course, it will take a deft DM to really bring this all home to the players and hopefully, yours is one!

There's a lot to do in Eyes of the Lich Queen and it need not be followed in linear fashion...again, a skilled DM can really make this a great time for the players. There are scores of maps in the book! I personally don't play Eberron, but as I said, it's no big deal to drop this into, say, a Forgotten Realms campaign or even one of your own designs. One Beef...I'd have liked to seen this at around $20 rather than $25.

REVIEWED BY TIM JANSON

3 out of 5 stars Since this is soft bound.......2007-06-12

This is a well written adventure with some extremely good ideas on DMing and keeping the story moving. My only real problem with it is the price and the fact it is a soft bound book. If I wanted to overpay for something I would have bought this at a comic book shop.

4 out of 5 stars Very good addition .......2007-06-08

This seems to be one in the latest trend of WoTC adventure products for its various gameworlds. Once again, this is a set of adventures that make up a mini-campaign taking the players through various levels. It uses the latest formatting design from WoTC. That is, having encounters in a separate area, at the end of the chapters, complete with maps. Honestly, it is confusing at first, having to jump back and forth between the non-combat description and the tactical scenarios. It takes maybe two sessions to get the hang of it, in my opinion.

The adventure itself is very intriguing to read, and hopefully this will translate to the gaming table. The encounters are challenging, and the authors seem to have made very tough, and memorable opponents instead of your basic cookie-cutter monsters. There are a few typos and omissions in the text, which unfortunately, bring a good quality product slightly down.

In summary though, well worth purchasing. Plenty of surprises for players, and so far, loads of fun to run.

4 out of 5 stars Best Eberron published adventure.......2007-05-05

So far I would have to say that this is the best published Eberron adventure out there. The first adventure paths starting with Shadows of the Last War were adventures in railroading if you ask me. Eyes of the Lich Queen is much better as Nicolas Logue is at the helm. You might know him since he wrote some great adventures for Dungeon Magazine.

3 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting.......2007-09-03

This book was not at all what I was expecting from Stephen King. It is written like a fairy tale story. It took me a while to get into it, but once I got used to the writing style it was not bad. The characters where well written, and the story moves at a good pace. I found I did not get hooked on the story completely until about half way through, and then I could not put it down.
It helped me to put things in perspective when a friend told me that Stephen King wrote this book for his kid. A fairy tale of Princes, and dragons, and dark wizards, death and friendship. A story written by King that his child could actually be allowed to read :0)

5 out of 5 stars I am the King.......2007-08-28

once again an amazing book from mr. stephen king. not at all like his other books but still very very good. Also unlike his other books there are no major plot twists or anything like that. Majority of the story is revealed to you in the first 100 pages. But it still keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see whats gonna happen next. Overall a great read.

5 out of 5 stars Great Story.......2007-07-01

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy books but I couldn't put this one down. It's only the second fantasy book I've ever read (and loved). The first being, 'The Hobbit'.

5 out of 5 stars One of his best novels.......2007-06-14

I read this as a teenager some time ago and had fond memories of it being one of my favorite books of all time. I recently decided to read it again prior to re-reading the first three Gunslinger novels. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. I strongly recommend this book to Dark Tower fans.

5 out of 5 stars Me Likey.......2007-06-04

Not being a huge King fan--don't get me wrong, I don't dislike him, I just don't care for horror novels, I'm a sissy--I love this book. It's a departure from the aforementioned genre and the content delves into a more fantastic realm. I heard it was intended for his daughter at the time. I love all the details and descriptions--this is a great book for children/preteens, though I still love it (and I'm quite a bit older than a preteen...)Give it a read, it's a nice change from killer dogs and creepy sewer clowns.

5 out of 5 stars Good reading.......2007-05-01

I loved the book. It keeps you wanting to know what is happening next. It's not a book for someone that is really deep into reading about dragon's, but it is one for the young at heart. If you love an adventure, this is for you.

2 out of 5 stars disappointed.......2007-03-26

i must admit i was disappointed in this book. they overuse lots of phrases, a hard to follow storyline, and the story was just not very creative. the first chapter is pretty good, but it's all downhill from there. i wouldn't reccomend this book, even though i adored "dragonology-the complete book of dragons". i became bored with the book quickley, and the only reason i finished it, was that i had already started it and i thought i might as well get it over with. i am surprised an adult wrote this book and not a kid, because i would definatly expect more from an adult author.

4 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-02-06

As I read THE DRAGON'S EYE, I kept getting a feeling of deja vu. It took a while to figure out why, but then it came to me. THE DRAGON'S EYE reminded me a little of the SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS books. There was that familiar emphasis on conducting research, and recording findings in little notebooks, and solving problems. Only instead of three orphans dodging Count Olaf, THE DRAGON'S EYE focuses on a brother and sister trying to escape the evil designs of the inferior dragonologist, Ignatius Crook. Unfortunately, this one didn't have the same humor in it that I enjoyed so much in the SOUE books.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about THE DRAGON'S EYE. In the plus column, the novel was heavy on dragons of various types. They all have names and unique personalities. Also, it had an element of boy versus girl competition that seemed to resolve itself reasonably well.

On the other hand, the frequent references to dragon diaries and research methods disrupted the action. Doubtless that was the point -- to identify the importance of learning about a subject before jumping into it and conducting a poor study. But still, the execution was a little heavy-handed for my taste.

For young dragon lovers, this would probably be a popular title. I emphasize the word "young." THE DRAGON'S EYE seems geared to a younger audience than many of the books reviewed here at TeensReadToo. My 14-year-old son read it, too, and he was disappointed because it definitely felt "too young" for him. But for budding fantasy lovers who can't get enough dragons, this one has the potential to be a winner.

5 out of 5 stars The Dragon's "Eye" LOVED IT!!!.......2007-01-23

This was one of the best books I've ever read and is up there with "Harry Potter". It was filled with adventure and if you like dragons it is great for you. It gives you pictures of dragons like The Knucker Weasel. In one part, the evil dragonolist, Ignatious Crook threw Daniel, Beatrice and Dr. Drake into a Bucca (dragon) hole. They found the actual Bucca and it flew away. (The Bucca had a horn for digging and a whip-like tail.) You'll find that the ending is surprising too.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Journey.......2007-01-17

Daniel and Beatrice Cook are accustomed to being sent to boarding school and spending holidays with friends or relatives. Their parents do important work in India. When a summer visit from their parents is cancelled, the children are sent to stay with Dr. Ernest Drake, a self-professed "dragonologist." They hardly expect to meet real live dragons, or learn what their parents really do in India...

The Cook children arrive at a time when the Secret and Ancient Society of Dragonologists (S.A.S.D.) faces a peril of unimaginable proportions. Evil Ignatius Crook is hunting for the legendary Dragon's Eye, a gem that may decide the future of dragons--and humans. The kids are thrust into harm's way through no fault of their own, but they're up to the challenge. After all, the fate of dragons everywhere is on the line!

So begins the adventure of Daniel and Beatrice's lifetimes.

The "editor" of Dr. Drake's comprehensive DRAGONOLOGY: THE COMPLETE BOOK OF DRAGONS and THE DRAGONOLOGY HANDBOOK: A PRACTICAL COURSE IN DRAGONS, Dugald A. Steer brings a fantastic journey to young readers. THE DRAGON'S EYE is the introduction to the new "Dragonology Chronicles" series that will follow the studies and missions undertaken by late nineteenth-century dragonologists.

Engaging characters and a wonderfully intriguing plot will hold the reader's attention, as the Cooks and Dr. Drake struggle to keep ahead of a smarmy villain. There are dragons aplenty, and they make equally interesting characters. Dr. Drake is a loveable scholar who takes the ornery Daniel and intelligent Beatrice under his wing, so to speak, during a dangerous time.

Aside from some wordy passages, this is a very readable story. Highly recommended for youngsters who love fantasy worlds and dragons.

I just love this book and the DIOM series. When I went on a journey before the Oracles of fire came out,I took the whole DIOM series with me although I had alredy read it I read each book in the journey twice.I recomend this book for every teen who wants to know more about Gods love i'd tell you to read it.This book is really worth reading not only this one but DIOM also.Im anxous for the rest of the books to come out.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutly beautiful!!!.......2007-01-25

As I closed the last page (my third time reading it through, by the way.) just the other day I let out a long hard sigh. Something about Eye of the Oracle really gets me thinking. The amazing power of God, and how he can take such small events, and what seems like such insignifacant people and things, and turn it all out for his good, is awe inspiring. And that is what Eye of the Oracle did to me. And there is one part in the book that I especially enjoyed, when God opens Sapphira Adi's (one of the main characters) heart and shows her his mercy and love. It was beautiful. Just absolutly beautiful!
The book starts with the Flood (Noah and the Ark), goes to the Tower of Babel, then to the era of King Arthur until finally it reaches modern day. So much happens in those pages, but it's most certainly not your normal, run-of-the-mill christian fantasy book, it's so unusual, and I think that's whay makes it so wonderful to me. I've never read a fantasy (or any other fiction for that matter!) book like it. It brought me along with it, and I understood the characters, and what they were feeling and what they were going through. I felt their pain, joy and sorrow. And I loved them all for it. And the depth of the writing, it's spectacular!
People kind of raise an eyebrow at me when I say that the characters in books are some of my favorite friends, but it's true. And especially with Eye of the Oracle. Please read it. You wont' regret it!!

Volume one of the Oracles of Fire series, which in turn is a prequel to the Dragons in our Midst series, Eye of the Oracle is an epic fantasy novel about the tension between dragons and mankind, from the era just prior to Noah's ark through the time of King Arthur to the modern day. In Eye of the Oracle, dragons are targeted by the machinations of an ancient and ruthless evil force, and only the sacrifice of noble heroes prevented the dragons' complete extermination as a species. An enthralling saga of good against evil, and great deeds achieved by individuals of courageous and faithful spirit.

5 out of 5 stars Spectacular!.......2006-12-31

This is one of the best books I have ever read. Eye of the Oracle begins before the Dragons in our Midst series starts. It is a much more complex story than DioM, and adds a whole new angle to the original series. These books are up there with Lotr, Narnia, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Stephen Lawhead books.(All of which I recomend by the way.) This was and awesome read and can stand by itself. but those who have read the previous books may glean more from it. Readers of the other series will get extra insight into Dragon's Rest, Bonnie, Shiloh, and (Duh) Oracles of Fire. Please do not miss out on this wonderful book!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Not just for kids.......2007-10-08

Erec Rex is really fun - a 12-year-old boy with a glass eye is called to rescue his adopted mother and plunges into a magical world where the king has been hypnotized as part of an evil plot to take over the magical world as well as the "Upper World," where Muggles are called "Losers," since they lost their knowledge of magic. (Erec and his friend Bethany are branded with Ls on their foreheads until they become accustomed to magic - one of the funny, contemporary touches of Kingsley's style.)

There's courage and obstacles and magic and children, so it's being desperately packaged and marketed as the next Harry Potter. There's even a quote on the back from a senior editor at Writer's Digest saying, "Erec Rex is poised to take over Harry Potter's long reign." The publishers seem to have taken this to heart, hiring a British illustrator with cover and chapter designs a little too similar - even the damn fonts for each chapter title are the same as Harry's. It's a shame, because this book is more original than derivative (though purists will compare the ongoing competition to The Goblet of Fire's Triwizard Tournament). The ending suggests many sequels to follow.

5 out of 5 stars An engaging adventure, accessible to readers of all ages.......2007-10-07

Writer, artist, singer, and movie buff Kaza Kingsley presents Erec Rex: The Dragon's Eye, a fantasy adventure novel for young adults set in the magical world of Alypium, a place hidden within our own world and brimming with mysterious magic and wondrous creatures. But something has gone wrong with the very Substance that connects the planet, and an evil presence whispers its plot to destroy all. The king is hypnotized and his castle is turned on its side. And twelve-year-old Erec Rex has been forcibly transported from our world to this strange place in peril. He must learn how to survive in Alypium, uncover hidden truths about himself; ultimately, only the powers of trust and love can help save him, his mother, and all of Alypium. An engaging adventure, accessible to readers of all ages but especially recommended for YA libraries and reading shelves.

5 out of 5 stars Erec Rex: Excellent .......2007-08-06

I picked Erc Rex up at Barnes and Noble for no real particular reason. I started reading it after I had finished the last Harry Potter book. Though it took me about three chapters to get into the book, after I did it really flowed. Ms. Kingsley is quite talented and imaginative. I had never heard of someone using remote controls for magic in place of say a wand. When you look at her world she created as a whole it makes a person smile, in her world anyone can use / learn magic. Even though its fantasy its nice to think of such a place.

Erec is a boy of 12, and he has 5 siblings. The family is quite poor and has to move around. The day Erec's mother goes missing is the day his life changes and his adventure starts. I look forward to reading the 2nd installment in Erec's adventures this fall.

4 out of 5 stars Engaging fantasy.......2007-06-14

At first, I thought this book was a little too much like Harry Potter but the author creates a complex reality and mythology that captured my imagination. It whetted my appetite for the sequel as it left many unanswered questions to ponder. This is just the book I needed to relax and get away from the everyday cares. I will definitely read the next installment!

Erec Rex the Dragon's Eye

Kaza Kingsley

Erec Rex the Dragon's Eye is a fast paced cliffhanging "I want to read more" novel. It is similar to the Harry Potter novels; however I liked this book more. One reason is because it isn't as big, there are not as many hard to understand words, and there are only three books in the series. This book is perfect for readers that like stories about mystical places and dragons.
Have you ever not known about your past? This is Erec's situation. Erec's dad isn't in the story and his mother has disappeared. Erec is quite wise for age, and he is aided by his "cloudy thoughts". Bethany, a girl that has the gift of mathematics shares Erec's adventures. Bethany can also get annoying at times, but is quite friendly.
There is a cave that Aoquesth the dragon lives in. He is free and lives in a cave full of treasures. He also owns a cape of one of the foolish castle workers. Aoquesth tells Erec that he has a great power and will use it for good not, evil. Aoquesth also tells Erec that his father cared so much about him that he left a dragon's eye for him with the Aoquesth. A dragon's eye and an unthinkable amount of power, and one of the power's is to see into the future.
This book is so exciting and with so many daring feats. I love it! I think that this book would be great for Harry Potter lovers. Kids that want to read Harry Potter novels but aren't strong enough readers, will enjoy these books. I'm looking forward to reading the second book when it becomes available.

Found the book very easy to read and understand. I had purchased the book which was very highly recommended for feng shui, sacred space and geobiology consultations. Great information in regards to form and compass school but not much on flying stars.

5 out of 5 stars We are patients and it appears he can cure anything.......2005-02-07

The man is an absolute genius in his field. We are patients and have been treated by him in his clinic and it is our opinion he can cure anything and increase life.. He's got to be one of the most enlightened beings on the planet and it's an absolute honor to be treated by him. His treatments get rid of not just physical problems but mental problems as well. Reading the book only touches on what Dr.Wu can really do. You can tell from the first treatment that you will never be the same again and will not keep suffering from the same old problems over and over anymore. You know the treatment works and the results continue to get better and better and better and there is no end to how great you can feel. If you have been to many doctors for your problems (especially long standing problems no one can figure out) it is my opinion that Dr. Wu CAN figure it out and fast! The problems my husband I have had for 25 years were solved in one visit when we finally found out where it really came from and what to do about it.
Gosh when I think of all those poor souls who take drugs to feel good, when they could take that same money and be getting acupuncture and curing their physical and mental problems without wrecking themselves, - this is the message I want to bring as to what Dr. Wu can do. He is not like just 'any' acupuncturist. He has been trained in his field from a young age from great masters and it appears to me he puts his own spiritual energy into the needles as well, which gives you that extra boost. So all of you out there, I recommend somehow getting to his clinic in Santa Monica, California. It is like a vacation for us each and every time we go there since we feel utterly recharged/refreshed/renewed, passion for living comes back and more!!...

5 out of 5 stars Really gets down to business..........2001-07-10

This book on Feng Shui really gets into the nitty-gritty of working on qi problems for homes and land. Wu is one of the first in the recent spate of Feng Shui authors to really give some good details about working on your own internal energy in order to be able to sense and hopefully fix qi problems in your home. That is, this book is not just about rearranging some furniture or clearing some clutter, it is more about how to train yourself to detect qi and then be able to work out possible solutions for many types of problems.

Highly recommended; you just need to do some Qigong to start working on fixing your internal "clutter".

    3 out of 5 stars Charmingly Gossipy.......2001-06-19

Covers the same basic information you find in most feng shui books these days. Does have more of a Taoist twist with more emphasis on religious ceremonies for space clearing, exorcisms, etc. More interestingly, it is chock full of gruff, grandfatherly style anecdotes "as told to the author" as regards the superstitious end of feng shui. Not to be seriously compared with Lillian Too, but nice to have to get some perspective on how feng shui is approached and used in the Orient in its popular, "unsanitized" version. Nuggets of arcane information.

3 out of 5 stars lighting the eye of the reader.......2001-06-06

Having studied authentic fengshui methods, several forms of Chinese astrology, fortune telling and Taoist secret methods, i.e. sorcery, with a Taoist master, whose name I respectfully withhold here, I was curious about this book of "inner secrets". In some details it is interesting. In others it is questionable. I find the author's tendency to obscure and pie some of her information very annoying. She tauntingly hints about secret and allegedly difficult I-Ching astrological divination methods that, in fact are not so difficult to learn. There are a number of such methods. They are amazing in what they reveal. The author hopelessly mystifies this area. Too bad she doesn't share it properly. If she cared to write about these methods, instead of confusing them, she should have been open and explained them clearly and completely so that the readers could have learned them. On the other hand, she should have said nothing. What is the point of mystifying the subject? Something else in the book I found highly questionable in light of Taoist sorcery is the ways she recommends using mirrors. She can fill your house with bad spirits that way. Notwithstanding the above, and the often supercilious tone in which she writes, the book does have some very good material that makes it well worth exploring.

        Book Description

This important military document presents the Department of Defense's roadmap for developing and employing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAVs) over the next 25 years (2002 to 2027). DoD's operational UAV systems include Predator, Hunter, Shadow, and Pioneer which have demonstrated tremendous capability in recent military operations. Developmental systems such as Global Hawk and many small UAV systems have also been put to the test in recent combat and combat support operations. Taken as a whole, this technology area offers profound opportunities to transform the manner in which this country conducts a wide array of military and military support operations. As with any new technology, there is naturally some reluctance to transition to a radically new capability. The need to fully demonstrate UAVs in combat and realistic training environments is critical to the migration of this technology. The overarching goal of this roadmap, in concert with the Defense Planning Guidance (DPG), is to define clear direction to the Services and Departments for a logical, systematic migration of mission capabilities to a new class of military tools. The goal is to address the most urgent mission needs that are supported both technologically and operationally by various UAV systems. Some missions can be supported by the current state of the art in unmanned technology where the capabilities of current or near-term DoD assets are sufficient and the risk to DoD members is relative low. Other mission areas, however, are in desperate need of additional capability and present high risk to aircraft crews. These mission areas, highlighted in this roadmap, will receive significant near-term effort by the Department. This Roadmap describes the Services' ongoing UAV efforts (Section 2) and identifies the capabilities needed by theater commanders to which UAVs could be applied (Section 3), then couples them to emerging technologies (Section 4) and operational concepts (Section 5) that could enable these capabilities within the Services' programs. The resulting Roadmap (Section 6) links capability-enhancing technologies to the life cycles of current and projected UAV programs. It is a map of opportunities, not point designs - a description of the future potential of UAVs. This Roadmap also provides a current snapshot of the status of the Department's numerous unmanned aviation efforts. There are over 100 detailed illustrations, charts, graphs, photographs, and tables; the document was issued in December 2002.

4 out of 5 stars Good introductory module, not suitable for Mystara Campaign.......2002-05-24

DDA3: Eye of Traldar and DDA4: Dymrak Dread are the last published adventure modules setting in Mystara in D&D product line. TSR then moved the Mystara setting to AD&D Mystara line (sadly that only few modules were published in the line before TSR's bankrupcy) and the D&D line adopt the new Thunder Rift setting. As one of the three tailor-made first time module in Mystara (the other two are B1 and B11, though you can use one of the rest in B series as your starting.), a beginning DM will find it not hard to run. The story itself is attractive and not as simple as B1 and B11. The module here provides a good linkage with other moudules, like DDA4 or B10 which the players may play then.

Originally it provides a very good idea for a campaign setting. However, if you prepare to run a Mystara Campaign based on Gazetteer series, PWA series...., you may find that it is too easy to slip into Fort Doom, stronghold of the evil Black Eagle, and steal the artifact from it in the module. (Only a group of Level one adventurers can do this!) Do you think it is reasonable? Such a weak defense of the fort, the stronghold should have already been overrun by expert level adventurers/ civilians. This is just one point I don't agree in this module.
